Hi everyone! My name is Jenn, I'm 27 years old and in about 2 weeks I will be starting my second year/3rd semester of the practical nursing program at Durham College in Ontario. My husband and I just moved to Edmonton, Alberta in June, (he is in the military) and I am leaving here to finish my schooling in Ontario where I started. I only have 1 more year left!
I am excited, but nervous about going back to school. I took 2 online courses this summer - development across the lifespan & pathophysiology I - in hopes it will lighten my course load in September.
This school year I am going to try and balance studying, work and fitness. I hope I can do it!

-Jenn
The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you

Hi!, My name is Krys. I'm in my second term of school and it's rather hectic. I'm trying to get healthy, and yet can't seem to find a balance between school, work, and health. I'm 27 and trying to work full time while going to school so it's been an interesting time. Anyway back to studying...first exam of term two tomorrow...and I'm so not ready.

I have worked on an ICU unit for the Veterans Hospital for 2 years. Worked at a Prison for one year. I also worked as a Discharge Planner for a year. For the last 2 years I have been working with Kids!! Well its nice to be here and I hope to get to know everyone around here real soon!!

Hello! My name is Nicki. I'm originally from a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. I moved to Conway Arkansas to go back to school. Things are cheaper here and I can afford to live on what my fiance brings home so I could take the opportunity to go back to college. I have a 2 year old daughter who keeps me pretty busy. I've been a member to this site for quite some time and it's been and on and off thing. This time will be different though.I can't work in the health field after school and tell people they need to get healthy if I am not healthy myself. So here I am giving it another go not only for me but for my daughter too!

goal 1- 418 lbs
goal 2- 377 lbs
goal 3- 320 lbs
goal 4- 256 lbs
goal 5- 192 lbs
Final goal- 155 lbs and Disney world trip!

Nicki

Hey.
I'm 25 years old and I'm studying to get my BScN. I am just finishing semester 4/8 so I am officially 1/2 way there. 2 more years left :) I love what I am going so much... I've had placement in a few different areas, but my heart is in OB/ NICU. Hope to get support here and keep my drive up with people who know what a nursing student has to go through.
All the best

Hi everyone! My name is Jeena and I'm a nursing student at St.Paul's School of Nursing in New York. I was doing pretty well with my diet last year, but when the semesters start, I get so busy and lose track of my goals. This time I want to get fit and stay fit.

Hello. I'm Laura. I'm in a Fast Track ADN program at Western Technical College in Wi. I just finished my 2nd semester and I'm looking forward to taking the NCLEX-PN exam soon so that I can work part time as an LPN while I finish up the rest of the RN program. I have actually been able to lose close to 50 lbs since starting school full time back in January. It hasn't been easy forcing myself to go to the gym but I know I need to take study breaks once in a while. I usually prefer to work out in the evening or later at night but it all depends on class and clinical schedules.

Hi, I am a 43 year old full time nursing student at Cincinnati State. I was 5 pounds from my goal weight of 130 when I started my clinicals. I have gained 20 pounds since then and am looking to take it back off.

Hi there,

I am in the RN program at Atlantic Cape Community College in New Jersey. I just finished my first year WooHOO! I have packed on the LBS since my marriage broke up and I started school.
This year has been really stressful. I have tried (unsuccessfully) to loose and keep off the weight for quite a while. Sooooo I'm starting over AGAIN. My mom gave me her old treadmill, I got a gazelle off of Freecycle.com, and an old elliptical machine (orbetrek). I've looked at the couch to 5k program too. My girls, 11 and 13 want to work out too. So at least I'll have some more cheerleaders.
I am so happy to have joined the nursing students squad. I have formed a strong bond with many of my classmates as only a nurse or student nurse would understand what we go through. I now view the world through a set of nurse's eyes!

Good luck everyone.

Noel

Welcome to the world of nursing and to The Nursing Students Squad. This is a supportive close knit group and growing slowly. Many members are so busy, we don't hear from them as often as we like. Some of us are here for each other daily. We are happy you joined and hope to see you on the boards!

HI - I am a 35 yo junior in a LPN program in Knoxville TN and I work part-time in assisted living. After I graduate in Aug I plan on working full time while taking my RN pre-req courses then starting the bridge program in Jan 2011. I am married to a wonderful hubby who works 2 full time jobs and we have 3 children between ages 4 and 9. I am a late bloomer education wise but it was now or never - same goes for my battle with weight as I want to be a good example to my kids and my patients. I will be checking in weekly for motivation :)

Hi Jennifer,
We are on the same page. Self care is often on the back burner. Little by little you can add one thing good and ease back into a better lifestyle. Like adding or substituting 3 subway salads per week for a usual more fattening fare. I find easing into change the best way to integrate it. I am so glad you found us and we found you. Welcome!

Hi! I'm Jennifer, I'm in the third and final semester of a laddered program. So I'll graduate in May for my LPN but plan on continuing to get my RN!! I have two kids, almost 4 and 20 months. I'm pretty busy and I think these quick and easy meals are catching up to me. I don't want to be a fat nurse telling other people to lose weight.

Hi everyone, I'm Nicky and I'm a student nurse in the UK. It's interesting hearing your schedules and seeing how it all works 'over there'. Here I spend blocks of time in full-time university (5 days a week) and alternate with blocks of weeks (7) out on clinical placement where we work full-time shift work.

It's hard work, especially as I'm married and have 3 children too but at the end of it I'll have a BNursing degree (with honours) so I'll be more than set for my future career.

I look forward to catching up with others who know how it feels to be crazy busy and trying to be healthy too. emoticon

Hey there, everyone! I'm Angie - 28 years old, newly engaged, and in my last semester of my bachelor's of science in nursing program. I start classes tomorrow, but already feel overwhelmed in terms of reading/projects/clinicals! One day at a time, that's how I have to take it to stay sane. Best of luck to everyone in reaching their weight and career goals! I look forward to chatting more on the team page.

Hey guys! I'm in my last semester of the accelerated program at Georgia State. Graduate in May - YIPPEE! I'm also the community service chair for our student group, so super busy semester.

But I have made up my mind that I will not graduate or interview at my current weight. What sort of example am I setting for my patients? So it is on!

Hi Jess. I am in a program like yours and it is busting my butt. There is so much info thrown out for you that it is amazing that I don't lose weight from just trying to make heads or tails of all the info. Anyway, hang in there, life is getting better.

Hi everyone!
I'm a non-traditional student, starting my 3rd semester in a BSN program in Missouri....meaning I have 2 semesters after this!!!! YAY! I will finish up May 2010 and I really want to look great for graduation. I mean I already stand out because I am older than the rest I don't want to stand out more because I am twice the size of the rest too. It is time to get healthy, I mean come on I am heading into a profession that is health related I don't want to be one that is do as I say not as I do, I want to be a good example!!!! I'm really excited to meet some new friends with like minded goals and realities....school takes so much time doesn't it? I love school but good grief finding time for exercise, eating healthy, studying and being a mom and wife...uuuggghhhh some days I wonder if I can get it all in.

So there it is....now to get off my butt and get moving! Talk to you all soon!!!

Hi MJ!
Wow you have a phenomenol schedule, but where there is a will there is a way. I have always believed I am suited for triage in the ER or ICU too.
We are so glad you decided to join the team! Make your self at home. Communities like ours are dedicated to its members and this is your team. Look around, feel free to start new threads and we look forward to meeting our goals together.

Hello and welcome MJ! I can't imagine doing school and working full time. My hat is off to you! I don't work at all, but with the hubby and two small kids (and the Cubs season) I have trouble getting all the school stuff done.

Hi, I'm Mary. I'm starting 2nd semester of 1st year on 1/12. I'm excited, but I want to get done! I work as a nurse tech in the ICCU and sometimes pick up extra hours in the ER and on Med/surg floor. I go to school fulltime, and have just recently cut my hours at work from 40/week to 32/week. It's definately tough working and going to school, but I'm going to get through it! When I'm finished, I'd like my home would be the ER...I love code blue's and traumas (I think its the adrenalin rush that I love, and yes i know it's kind of morbid), but that's just me! emoticon

Hey Robin! I'm starting my clinicals in January too! I'm pretty excited. I got all my worries and anxiety out when I was working on my medical assisting degree and did my externship at a local Emergency Department. I loved working with real patients! I'm looking forward to it and hope your clinicals go well too!

Hi Robin. I remember being very, very nervous about clinicals starting out 2nd semester. They turned out to be wonderful experiences. I'll be starting 4th semester in two weeks and I can't wait for clinicals. I hope the same happens for you!

Hi!

My name is Robin. I'm starting my 2nd semester this month in part time ASN program.

I am also a wife, mom, and work full time on the weekends overnights. I'm so stressed. I need to lose about 60 lbs total.

I start clinicals. 1/13 I'm scared physically I won't be able to keep up.

I had joined sparkpeople quite a while ago. But, never really looked around the site much until I went on christmas break. I love it!! what a wealth of information!!!

I'll be sad when semester starts and I won't be able to come and lurk around as much.

Hey. I will be starting my 2nd Semester Friday. Trying to get an Associates Degree/RN. I'm a single mom of 2 little boys. I'm separated from my husband (he works in Seattle, I live in Alabama).

I'm old.
And fat.
And stressed.

I had lost over 50lbs on WW. And have gained it all back and then some since going back to school and having no time to run anymore.

Just looking from some support from other people in similar situations. The vending machine at school is KILLING me!!!!! :)

Hello Amanda and welcome to the team. Your comment about planning ahead is unanimous with us too!

You will find a weekly weigh in post next time you login. Thanks for the suggestion. I am on my last few pounds and losing these has been slow and frustrating. The bootcamp should make the difference.

We look forward to getting to know you and forging ahead toward our goals together! emoticon emoticon

hey! my name is amanda and i am in a 2year RN program. I work on an ambulance full time and have a 3 year old daughter. my husband is a firefighter who works 24 hour shifts, so we depend on our babysitter and my mother a lot. I will be starting the second semester of my freshman year on 1-12. After semester one I have learned that planning ahead is the only way to keep your head above water. I am looking forward to being on the team :) Do you guys do a weekly weigh in?

We can relate and understand what you are experiencing. So when the day is over, and you attended school with no make up, without a healthy lunch, worried about an exam or the crazy drivers and hear yourself saying, "I never thought it would be this hard"...remember, take a deep breath, slow down the pace and know we care!

The nursing director might have emphasised self care. I know mine did. She did it because we need to be at our best, content and healthy. Together we can do it! This team is keeping me on track.

Welcome!

I'm back on sparkpeople, after too long "off the wagon". I started nursing school in June, and since then I've found it SO incredibly difficult to keep any sort of eating/exercise schedule. Between studying, working, clinical work...I just don't know how to stay healthy in the rush! I'm hoping that by joining this time, I can get some great recommendations to stay on track, so I can be an example to my future patients :o)

Hello! My name is Jess and I attend an accelerated Nursing program from which I will earn an Associates Degree and become an RN. This program flies by so quickly I can't even see straight sometimes. I was wondering if anyone else is enrolled in a program like this? This seems like a good group and I am looking forward to participating.
