if you have saved any of the plastic type baby food containers you could use them for dipping sauces :) thats what i do :)

You're probably right. If he's got a cute box, with cute yummies, he'll be the envy of his class. Don't forget to cut foods into neat shapes and toss in a cute container for dips or sauces.
The girls in my daughter's class always want to swipe the bunny sauce cup. Teehee!

Welcome to the team, Kristen!
I'm a newbie too - both to bento & to SparkPeople. I love the portion control bento offers, as well as the creativity it requires to make a beautiful lunch.
I look forward to seeing you around the boards!
Enjoy the day,

7.6 pounds down - 24.0 pounds to go!
Hi there. I'm Kristen, 28, mom to two-under-five.
I was turned on to bento lunches by the Vegan Lunch Box blog and cookbook last year, but not until this week did I buy any bento lunch boxes for our family.
I finally decided to take the plunge when my son started back to preschool this year. The school asks that the kids bring HEALTHY snacks to eat in the mornings, and apparently most parents' ideas of "healthy" includes cookies and potato chips. Well, of course, my son was WAY more interested in what the other kids had than his own apple (which he usually can't get enough of).
I figured that if I got him a cool little lunch box and packed it with fun-looking and yummy-tasting snacks made of wholesome foods, he would enjoy his school snacks more. That's what I'm HOPING, anyway! And maybe HE will be the envy of his classmates, this time around.
So, I got one box for him, one for my daughter for when she starts preschool next year, and one for me since I'm going back to college in the spring and want to avoid the cafeteria and vending machines.
Sorry for the lengthy intro. I look forward to seeing everyone's creative lunches!
