I LOVE Maki's websites! :D I've almost all my special bento recipes from justbento.com. I never knew what a difference a little mirin could make, before.

It's funny, after doing this for a little over a month, bento seems like such a no-brainer to me now. Even if it's not Japanese food, it's just common sense to get a lunch box that lets you pack REAL food rather than brown-bag food (which always makes me feel like a third grader).

If you haven't checked it out yet, I'd take a gander at lunchinabox.net too. Biggie constantly has great info on freezing and dethawing items for bento lunches, which has cut my lunch-making time by 75% at least, lol.

Welcome!!

It's really amazing that bentos fill you right up and they're so nutritous too! I've gotten lazy about my bento, but i'll hopefully get back into the habit of them, so that way i can snack all day when i want..as i'm pregnant now, and not have to worry about cooking. which i've STILL got absoloutly no energy or desire to do. lol!

Glad you enjoyed your first bento so much! :)

Welcome welcome! We're glad you found us. I was pleasantly surprised by how satisfied I was eating a meal that squeezed in my little bento. Shocked was more like at the first.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey!

Hi! I'm Adrienne. I just happened to stumble across the team yesterday and couldn't help but check out all the wonderful pics you have on your Flickr site. They inspired me so much to start making my own bentos.

I work full-time and have been usually just bringing a lean Cuisine frozen dinner everyday, but the sodium and extra non-healthy stuff in them made me decide to start creating my own lunches...but I didn't want to get in a sandwiches-day-in-and-day-out rut. Bentos are so fabulous! I've always loved Japanese food and culture, so I don't know why I didn't think of them before.

I went surfing all yesterday afternoon and evening, reaserching all things bento and came across Maki's JustBento site. Wow! What an awesome resource. I jumped right in and made some onigiri stuffed with tuna and sprinkled with sesame seeds and 5-spice powder, along with a tamagoyaki. I added some raw veggies and fruit snacks. Mmm Mmm...I'd post pics of my first bento attempt....but I just finished eating it. ;) It's amazing how I can be full on a meal that fits neatly into a flat Glad Take'n'Toss container.

"This is the beginning of a new day.
I have been given this day to use as I will.
I can waste it or I can use it for good.
What I do today is important because
I am exchanging a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes this day will be gone forever,
Leaving in its place something that I have traded for it.
I want it to be gain, not loss; good, not evil; success, not failure;
In order that I shall not regret the price that I paid for it."
