Welcome, Sorcha. You are very wise to start transitioning to a lifetime of successful maintenance NOW. Go ahead and post. We have people with years of success behind them. I had lost this weight over and over again before SP and this team helped me learn to maintain. It can be done. There are also a significant number of people maintaining a few pounds over where they really want to be, some actively working to get back to goal. So, see, you'll fit right in. Again, welcome.

Welcome! At about 10lbs out, I stopped thinking so much in terms of a number on the scale (though I still use it as a check and balance on my eating/fitness), but more in terms of health, fitness and maintenance, so you're definitely in the right place! Congrats on your progress so far!

Welcome!

This team is full of generous, wise members who have been there before and understand.

It's definitely never too early to think about maintenance - that's why we have the "+ Transition to Maintenance" part of the team name.

I'd like to echo the suggestion to spend some time browsing the Big Page of Links, especially the section about "Transition to maintenance"

tinyurl.com/maintenance-links

Glad you're here!

Hi Sorcha, I joined a few months ago within 10 pounds of goal. I've been struggling these months and actually gained about five pounds. I am working on it and I think I caught this faster because of being on this team. I'm sure I'll make it and you will too because we keep going and learn from everything and every where we can.

Hi Sorcha! Glad to see that you've joined the team. As the others here have said, this team is for everyone who's looking to get and keep the weight off for good, not just those who are already at goal. And even those of us who've been around for a while still find that we bounce out of our maintenance ranges every now and then. Having the support of the other members here and the wisdom of those who have been in your shoes is a huge help no matter where you are. And I WISH I had found a place like this sooner. I would have felt much more prepared for the challenges maintenance presents, had the support I needed to stay on track and probably could have avoided several rounds of regain.

So, welcome and please don't be afraid to chime in the discussions here or to post any questions you may have before you reach goal. You'll definitely receive lots of helpful responses from the members here.

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

Welcome, congratulations on your progress, and do join in! I personally find maintenance more challenging than shedding weight! You would do well to join the next maintenance challenge, starting sometime after 23 June. Check out Bannockburn challenge for details of the present one. Thenidea is that you stick withi. 3% of your ideal weight, or down. But you can keep tracking even if you go above 3%. When I went above my goal weight, I put a weight that was above my goal, but that I could stay within 3% of, and that motivated me to eat rather more sensibly. I find this challenge very helpful. You might too. You have to sign up for it before it starts. But you may well be at or near your goal weight by then. Keep in touch!

Please join us now! Maintenance is challenging, and knowing what to expect will keep you from some major discouragement...at least that's what it did for me. Check out this link tinyurl.com/maintenance-links which is listed on the team page. It's full of great information.

Welcome to the team. Please speak up whenever you wish. You don't have to be at goal to be here...the second half of our name is +transition to maintenance, and you definitely belong here now. Congratulations on your weight loss!

I was encouraged to join before reaching my goal by another member of this Team as there is SUCH a lot of wisdom & support from others to help us not only to reach our goal but to STAY THERE! :-)

FWIW, I'm not yet at goal, but am closing in on it...!

Welcome aboard!

I wrote a similar entry here when I joined four pounds over my initial goal! Of COURSE you are welcome here! Learning the skills of maintenance is essential to making this a lifetime change. And you don't have to hold back posting, either. If you have questions, there are a LOT of great folks here willing to share!

Oh, and I've been lurking around here since 2010... others even longer... but there are also some newbies learning the ropes. This is a GREAT team! emoticon

If you folks don't mind, I am jumping the gun a bit to join this team -- I am still 10 lbs from goal, but I have gone from 235 to 170 in 9 months. I can always get it off, but I've never been able to KEEP it off, so I want to have a solid maintenance plan and support in place the minute I get to 160 (hopefully, in June).

My name is Sorcha and I go by Keltik Heart on SP. I will not jump in with posts until I make it official by hitting goal, but I will start avidly reading all of your advice/posts. I'm sure seeing this team in my homepage roster will help me start thinking the right way.

Cheers everyone!
