Late to the congrats...what a super job you have done!

I've joined this SparkTeam despite not yet reaching my goal so that I could learn from all of you to help me reach my goal weight and MAINTAIN that weight for the long haul.

There is SO much wisdom and support among all the members of this SparkTeam!

A big thank you to all for the wonderful welcome!

As many, I had lost weight in the past and never maintained it for long before I started putting the weight back on. I really think the changed mindset; i.e., I'm not dieting, has helped me to reach my goal and stay there - actually under my goal since April of last year.

Now I do eat what I want, the difference is what I want is typically healthy food!

Hi,
I joined Sparkpeople back in November and just now getting active.
After years of yo yo dieting, I decided to change the way I did things back in October 2011 and focus on eating healthy, tracking my food, staying at my calorie goal (which I didn't set too high). One thing I did that was very helpful was to see a hypnotist. She helped me to eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm full, and to keep to my calorie goal. She reminded me that hypnosis won't let us do anything we don't want to do, and I was ready.

I was successful and lost about 30 pounds then bought a pedometer and now get at least 10,000 steps/day 6 out of 7 days. I met my interim goal weight in Oct 2012; set it in the middle of the overweight category because I thought I could maintain that weight.

Surprise! I kept losing and reached my new goal weight in April of last year. That was just 2 months after having a heart attack. Fortunately it was minor and I was in pretty good shape so recovery was quick. Regardless a big wake up call that I have one more reason to maintain my weight and stay healthy.

I don't diet; instead focus on eating real foods, lots of plants and fruits, and I watch my portions. Still track everything I eat and in addition to walking I get to the gym for cardio + weights three times/week. Just added yoga every week or so. And have started doing Pilates; learned that when I do Pilates I don't do weights at the gym!

Feeling great! Want to maintain my weight and am finding sites like Sparkpeople and other weight loss blogs to be helpful. Looking forward to meeting you all and sharing what has worked for me.
