I've been lurking here for a while, but this is my first post. I'm an East coast Canadian, just turned 51. My partner and I love to kayak every chance we get in the spring and summer, walk and hike in the fall, and snowshoe in the winter when we get enough snow.

I've lost 55 lbs over the past year with SP. I reached my original goal of a 40 lb loss, and decided to keep going. Got to a 'healthy BMI' and kept going another 8 lbs to give myself some wiggle room. The last 5 lbs was slowest to come off, taking about 2 months, which seems fine to me. So now for maintenance. It's a little bit scary and a lot exciting. I'm starting by increasing my calorie range by 100 cals daily, which I'll do for a couple weeks and see what happens. If I am still losing, I'll increase again a bit.

I weigh daily, but don't get at all alarmed by daily fluctuations, as long as the overall pattern is the one I want. I don't follow any particular eating plan, just watch calories, which means portion control, almost no snacking, and emphasis on protein with lower carbs because if I spend my calories on carbs I get hungry sooner. I kind of enjoy the game of nutrition tracking on SP, meeting my daily targets for fibre, sodium, fats etc... And I am kind of self-competitive, wanting my fitness minutes each week or month to at least meet my minutes for the previous week or month!

So, here goes maintenance!

I am SO glad you are here! I hope and believe you will be blessed as I have been with this team. There are SO many wonderful threads of information but also google docs....but don't get overwhelmed...just go slowly...they have lots of challenges also that I love just for accountability! I post my weight every day every where I can!

emoticon emoticon and I will try to remember to "remind" you of things as I can but my memory is not all that great either! emoticon

emoticon I found this team through GABY1948, one of my Beck teammates. She encouraged another member to join this team even if she wasn't yet at maintenance weight as a kind of preemptive strike. I liked that idea so much I decided to do it, too.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I've been at maintenance more times before than I like to admit but here I am after straying away with 40 extra pounds to lose. So I like the idea of learning ahead and having a safety net for when I reach my goal.

emoticon on the weight loss....I have not really found maintenance to be that hard...but I am a pretty structured person so pretty much eat the same everyday...my dad did the same so other than the regular fluctuations it has not been hard!

Congrats on the weight loss! For me, it's just as much work to maintain as it was to lose the weight. I have maintained for approx. 6 years and I still track fitness and nutrition every day. It's the only way for me to maintain.

Again, congratulations on hitting your goal and good luck maintaining!!!

I've been lurking in this group for a while, but now I've hit my goal weight of 143 on June 21, 2015. Next goal is to get a side ways trend going.

This is my first ever attempt to lose weight. I was surprised at how quickly I reached my goal weight (took 6 months to lose 45 lbs), having witnessed so many peoples' struggles. I've also read about so many people regaining and/or yo-yoing, so hopefully Spark and this team have given me the tools, information, and support to keep me on the right path.

I'm 42 y.o., originally from the Netherlands. DH and I have 3 y.o. twin boys, both work full time (us, not the boys), and we are determined to be healthy parents.

I have a business of Interior Design for 16 years, redecorating (using what my clients already own,) is my forte. I came to SP on February 9, 2015 at 166lbs. and presently I am 131.5. I hope to learn many tips for maintenance because right now I am I bit hesitant in the process.

Hi everyone!

I just joined the team today at the suggestion of my 5% Challenge team leader. I'm 3 lbs. from goal so I'm getting ready to start maintenance, just as soon as I can get those off.

I started this journey with Spark People in 2013 after reading an article in First for Women profiling one of the many success stories from this site. When I read that it was free, I decided to give it a try. I was at 166 lbs. after taking 2 years to come down from an all-time high of 180. I'm 5 foot nothing, so every pound shows up! And apple-shaped, so it was mostly in my belly and back. 2 years before the 180, I had gotten down to 130. Yo-yo anyone?

This has been a nice, slow weight loss, so I am confident that this time I will have more success at keeping it off. It's been 21 months and I have lost 38 lbs. so far.

This year I will turn 60. I have been married 41 years and we have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. I love to walk, read, fish, and I can look at treetops for hours on end (if I let myself!). I love dogs, but I have no pets because my husband doesn't want any.

I'm both nervous and excited about entering Maintenance. I'm so glad this team is available!

Welcome to the team Donna! You're going to love it here. May favorite part of this team are the challenges. What better way to maintain your weight than to have to weigh in every week and be accountable.

Hi,
I just joined this team a few days ago and really haven't had time to check all the interesting articles yet.
Right now I am at 105.8 again.(So I am up a pound.) I am 61, married 43 years this November 22.
I was going to try to get to 100 pounds as I am 5 feet (short) but I might try to do 102 or 103?
I can't wait to get started with the team.
I saw this Spark Team a few times on some of the pages I visit. I really do need help to maintain a healthy weight as it doesn't take much to add a few unwanted pounds.
Thank you in advance.

Hello!
I first joined Spark after having my now 9 year old son. I weighed close to 190 pounds at my pregnancy high. I lost it all and then some after having him. I then turned 40 and my metabolism slowed so I've been fighting that battle of trying to figure out what I need to do in my 40s to lose/maintain. I gained 10 pounds and have been sllloooowwwwllllyyyy losing it. haha My goal is 130-133 and I'm at 139. So I'm close. I decided to join this board to give myself some added inspiration. emoticon

Hello everyone!
I joined the team yesterday so I think I should introduce myself.
My name is Janet and I am 64. I am happily retired, single and living in New Hampshire.
My heaviest weight was 164 but I am small boned and only 5'3" so that was fairly heavy. I took that down to 154 many years ago and that is where I stayed for some years. Soon after I retired I had more time to concentrate on healthier living and managed to get down into the 140's but I would always pop back up to the 150's. I decided I needed to get a bigger "margin for error" I buckled down and was 130 in March 2014. I felt so great, I looked great, I bought new clothes, I basked in the positive feedback. And then I just let it all slowly slip away. I stopped tracking my food, I ate what I wanted and as much as I wanted. My new clothes still fit at the end of the summer but they were getting tighter. By the time December rolled around I was 140ish and when I dug out my summer clothes to go on vacation I found few things that still felt comfortable. I probably packed on a few more pounds at the all inclusive resort. So when I got home, I got serious once again.
Now I am back to 130 and determined to do things differently. This time around I did all the same things as before to lose weight but I became more active on Spark instead of just lurking and using the tools. I discovered many very inspiring people here and I discovered Beck. I have been mentally preparing for maintenance from the very moment I started to concentrate on losing. I know now that to stay slim I must be vigilant FOREVER! I know that is going to be the toughest thing ever.
I am not officially at maintenance. I have set my goal weight at 120 but don't know if that is the right weight or not. I do strength training 3X a week and my main focus is building lean and reducing fat. I don't particularly care what the scale says in the end (although I look everyday!) but I think my waist should be at least 1" smaller than it is right now.
In closing, I want to take time to thank all of you long time successful maintainers who have chosen to stick with Spark and be a guiding force and inspiration for others.

Wishing you a return to financial safety so you may return "home" as desired.

I have found the support of this team to be instrumental in maintaining the healthy habits I have worked to establish. Addressing the challenges life presents from a position of health means my ability to navigate those challenges is much better.

Again, welcome and wishing you the best!

Hi - My name is Dina and I am now under 10lbs from my goal weight of 137. It caught me by surprise as I have been dealing with a huge amount of stress, financial difficulties and serious angst this past few months. I stuck with exercise as it helped me stay normal. Yoga, rebounding, walking, P.A.C.E were all a part of my day. As I tend NOT to eat when I am so stressed I found myself eating salads and mostly vegetarian. The pounds kinda just disappeared. I have been at this weight now for a few weeks which I think is actually very good as it means it is REALLY off not just fallen only to come back. I am still struggling with so many big monsters right now that doing anything different is not likely. I continue to exercise, drink my water and eat lightly so the rest I am guessing will come off in the next few months. My taste buds have changed and I no longer crave sweets, fatty or heavy foods. Meditating and Tapping/EFT has been a part of my day too just to keep the anxiety/depression monster from taking over. I don't know what the future holds but I know it won't be weight anymore. By the way I also quit smoking at the same time :-) In the past I have gained 30lbs every time I quit but this time I lost 28lbs instead. Strange but true. Lungs feel better, weight lighter. My heart is heavy with the betrayal of my business partner and the hurt and harm she has caused my family but that is another story. HUGE thanks to BrooklynBorn who told me to join this group. Honored to be a part of it.

I am originally from England. Born in London, grew up in Africa, (Kenya, Zambia), Mauritius and the middle east. Dad was an Ambassador. I lived in Canada for 25 years and so Canadian as well. I have two children ages 31 and 24 and 4 step-children ages 33, 38, 26 and 24. Love them all to bits. Now living in Georgia. My goal is to go home!! Home for me is the mountains of Colorado where I moved to10 years ago when I first came to the USA. I fell in love with the Rockies, the State, the people and the lifestyle. I was slim, active, healthy and happy. I had to leave to grow the business and things kinda slid downhill after that. Now I am almost slim and healthy again, I just need to get financially safe and go home. Thank you for letting me be a part of this group. I have had the privilege of making some wonderful SP friends who have truly been the kindest and most caring of people I have ever encountered. They have been my port in this storm and my beloved souls in the ethers. Hugs

Welcome to the team and congratulations on the weight loss! Entering the challenges has helped me a lot because we weigh in every week and I don't want to have to enter a weight over my center weight. Here's the link for the next challenge. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1CvQEuSsES

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to introduce myself
I have been maintaining since February and first started my journey January 2013
I am 5'1 and started out at 196-199 being my highest
I lost 80lbs and now maintain around 112-117. Currently 116.
I have always had a food addiction since I was a kid. My family always bought us happy meals and fast foods for dinner every day. There was always cookies and ice cream in the house and I would always sneak huge portions at night in my room.
As an adult it got worse, I began to go to the store and buy huge amounts of candy bars and fast food and eat it in the car or hiding in my room.

It's been hard to beat this thing, last month I had around 3-4 relapse binges (fast food and candy bakery items). I gained over my maintenance range and got back into deficit this month. I need a group like this to keep me accountable with maintenance and help me in the bad/binge times.

Now I'm working on building some muscle and getting my bodyfat percent down, not the scale. It's really interesting to still see my body changing even though I'm in maintenance and the scale is no longer going down.

Hope to make some new friends here, share some recipes and support each other in the hard times. Feel free to add me as a friend, I love to support and cheer others on!

Amanda :)

Hello Everyone! My name is Nola. I'm 63 y/o, 4'11.5" I just started maintenance last week Sunday. My highest weight was 170.4#. My aha moment came when my sister (who was over 250# last time I saw her) told me she had lost 47#. That Sparked me to think about my Weight Watchers days and that I should start tracking and monitoring what I eat! I went online to see about joining WW again. But wow!!! Sticker shock! I am on a fixed income and could not afford to re-join.

The next thing I did was try the Plexus drink. I lost 10 pounds and plateaued and I didn't track my intake nor did I exercise. It became too expensive for me to continue, and as a nurse I knew I couldn't do that the rest of my life. I needed to monitor what I ate and get off the couch!!!

I started surfing the net on July 19, 2014, when I went to the Fox website I saw a video SparkGuy made. I watched that video and knew right away that I needed to head on over to SparkPeople.com. I joined that Friday and used the weekend to peruse the site. I have been hooked ever since!

I entered the 5% Fall Challenge and lost 27 more pounds for a total of 37#. I learned so much during that challenge. I decided to enter the Winter Challenge. For 8 weeks, I fluctuated between 133 and 136#. I felt I should just go into maintenance. A SparkFriend told me about this team and here I am.

Maintenance is not easy for me. I am having a hard time trying to go from losing to maintain. I am finding the articles suggested on here quite helpful and will be working on a maintenance program.

As a former WW, I had lost 40 pounds and maintained for over 15 years. I was even told not to come back because I was too far below my goal weight! You'd think I could just step right back into maintenance without any problems. Back then I was a weight lifter, runner, swimmer and bicyclist. I trained 7 days a week. My weight began to climb from my normal weight of 105#, when I started working as a CNA in 1994. In 1995, I started nursing school for Practical Nursing. Oh the stress and stress eating!!! In that 2 year span, I gained over 30 pounds. I ate what and when I wanted. I was always tired. I didn't feel like exercising. My clothes were getting too tight! I didn't track what I ate. The weight just kept coming on. I just hated how I had let myself go, but I could't or wouldn't do anything about it!

Once the aha moment hit me, I shed nearly 40# with the help of my SparkFriends and my family. I feel better now. I like how I look. I would still like to get down to 125#, but if I don't then so be it! I will continue to track and monitor my exercise.

I am looking forward to meeting new SparkFriends and learning how to maintain through this team!

Hi! I joined after reading Gaye's blog today. I never considered joining a maintenance team before. I still have about 50 pounds to lose, but I have also lost about 50 pounds, and in between "diets" have done a reasonable job of keeping that off, but it could have been better. I think maybe joining this team will get me to a better place psychologically. I feel like I'm almost there. And that this will be the year I hit my goal, finally! :-) Seems like all the things we learn over time become part of us, and we become like a new person to a certain extent. I'm looking forward to exploring blogs and links on this team!

Good morning from my snowy part of the country emoticon . I decided to join this team last week because you all are doing what I intend to be doing by the end of 2015. I am not at goal (133 lbs) and I am not maintaining. Yet! I am however a believer in the resilience of my body, I know where I need to direct my focus, and I am determined. And so I will be both a giver and taker of support and encouragement as I transform my body with choices and tools that benefit my health. And who better than to learn from, but you who have gone before me on this journey? emoticon

Hi, my name is Gaye, and I have been with Sparkpeople since October of 2008 but never knew it was anything but GAMES and such. And I certainly never thought I would ever be able to maintain. But months ago I started reading Beck Solution blogs and jumped on. I have weight 336 30 years ago then got down to 233 and never went above that for a long time. That was when I began spark and got down and stayed between 180s and 160s. I started Beck at 163.6 November 1 and am now 148.6 with 13.4 pounds to go to goal for the first time in my life....I am 66. After doing Beck I actually BELIEVE that I will be able to maintain as I see so many people do...but I fluctuate so much now I'm not sure when I will make goal so am hoping it's okay to be here.

I have been a member of SparkPeople for years. Between this site and WW, I lost a total of 100 pounds, and I have kept it off for 2 1/2 years. While I haven't gained, I have noticed my focus on healthy eating has been slipping and I have been relying more on my running to maintain my weight -- which is bad around the holidays. So, I decided to get back on SP to refocus. I have been very sad today to see how many of the people I followed during my journey -- people who were so inspirational to me -- are struggling, or worse, have struggled and now they are no longer active. Then, a lightbulb went off in my head. I have read their stories for years, and their examples have lead me through some difficult times. Yet, I haven't written a blog in years. I don't even support them with comments -- some I have not even requested as friends. I feel I owe something to them and I want to try to be more social and supportive. I would love some suggestions for how I can do this as I am not very savvy with social media. Thank you all for your shining examples! I'll stop hiding under a bushel now...

Hi! I am Sharon and I have finally met my goal the 2nd time around.
I lost close to 40 pounds and it took two years. It took me a whole year to loose those last 10 lbs. My weight range is between 120-124 lbs. and this morning I weighed 122.8.

Now time for maintenance. My first time with Spark People I lost weight down to 111 lbs. and due to moving, stress, working 50+ hours and caregiving elder mother I gained up to 161 lbs. within 6 months.

I don't ever want to gain this weight back and am looking forward to the support of you all and this team!.

Hello my name is CindyH and I finally hit my goal of 125 lbs! It has taken me two years to lose those last 16 lbs. I am 55 yrs old and feel like mother nature gave me some one elses body during and after menopause. I had to learn a whole new set of skills to cope. But finally success!

I read a spark article about maintenance and have decided to make 125 my top weight. Im planning to lose a few more so I have 3 to 5 lbs to play with.

I live in Oklahoma on a farm. I am employed as an acupuncturist and do Chinese herbal medicine. I am also a personal trainer and teach yoga. I try to help my clients with chronic pain issues, then figure out which of their muscles (and meridians) are contributing to the problem. From there I get them moving, stenghthening and stretching.

CindyH
I exercise because I love my body, not because I hate it.

Hi, I'm Kate, and at 65 I am surprised that my weight is down to my twenty-something level. I'm 5'3" and went from a pear shape to an apple shape after menopause. I don't need to lose any weight per se, but my waist is still over 30 inches, and my waist:hip ratio is still about 86%. I am about halfway through a year of coaching by Precision Nutrition, and their strength training has helped me gradually regain strength.

I am happy maintaining my current exercise level until my body goes into decline, but by that time I should have much more muscle to sustain me. Also, I am content with my eating level, which is eating to live, rather than living to eat. I enjoy my meals and do not feel deprived. Since June, I stopped drinking alcohol and discovered I feel better; so I plan to continue making shrimp pasta primavera with white wine garlic lemon sauce, but opting out of wine by the glass.

Over the next 6 months, as I work on adding muscle, I shall see what weight becomes "normal." At this point, the waist:hip ratio limits my dress shopping options, so I will feel more comfortable after I release more of the fat layer around my middle. I may need to inhabit the lower level of the Normal range to achieve my goal. Time will tell.

Oops, when I came to SP in 2009, my weight was recorded as 176 on 7/12/09. I reached a healthy weight of 139.3 on 12/13/09 and maintained at that weight about 2 months. Due to a trifecta of stressful incidents, I reached 170.4 by 3/16/13, then 156.3 by 8/1/13, then rose to 168.1 by 6/02/14. Since 6/02/14, I have lost steadily to today's weigh-in of 122.1. I met my nominal goal weight of 125 by 12/10/14.

WOW! 60 pounds in a year. You are doing well.

This is a good place to be. You'll get the support you need to shed those last 15 pounds...or decide you didn't need to lose them after all.

Hi,
My name is Holly and I live in the Northeast with my husband and Siamese cats. For nearly two years I have been dumping thirty years of accumulated wiggly flesh and now am finally in the normal weight catagory. My health has improved 200% and I am feeling quite good. I have been able to do this by reducing my daily calories, giving up junk food and snacking. I have also increased my exercise and changed my attitude toward food and all things negative. I had lots of emotional baggage weighing me down and after I took responsibility for it, I was able to move on and find a happier healthier self. My diet is just as if I had been on maintenance all the time.
I look forward to being on this team.
Thanks for reading about me.

Hi
My name is Marlene. I started SP in July 2013 weighing 283 pounds and I am 56. By new year 2014 I was 228. My goal is 160 and I am 3 pounds away. I went from being barely able to walk due to osteoarthritis in my spine and my weight; to now pretty fit. From size 2X to size small on top and medium on bottom. Low point was when I had to buy a cane in NYC last June when my legs felt like they were going to give out due to shooting pains in my back. I lost the weight by being consistent with a 3X week 1 hour treadmill walk at 3.4 MPH and a lower carb diet.

I feel like I will reach goal within the next 4 weeks; and then want to continue to lose 10 more pounds. I don't find it hard to continue losing weight because its been my primary focus since July 2013 and I my food preferences and eating habits have changed. I still struggle in the evening with snacking; but I have managed to control it most days.
I was medicating myself with food to deal with emotional issues.

Starting weight 283 lbs, July 9, 2013
Original Goal of 160 lbs Reached Nov. 26, 2014!
New 2015 goal is 150 lbs and to stay Consistent with eating plan and exercise 3X week.

Hi All! Last spring I decided to go to the Caribbean with my daughter for a hiking adventure and discovered hiking there was going to be challenging. As a result, I set a goal for myself to build my muscles and lose some weight for the trip. I started riding my bike daily and started tracking my calories like I did a few years ago to lose weight. This time, I lost A LOT of weight! My original goal was 150lbs, down from 172, I'm now at 135!!! While I think it's great, my family is concerned I'm getting too thin, so I've decided to stop and transition to maintenance. I like how I feel and look, so its a fair compromise. I am very worried I will gain it back again so I'm looking for motivation and inspiration to stay at this weight. I live in a cold weather climate so bike riding outdoors is out for the next 5 months or more, so I've been doing some strength training and my sister donated her stationary bike to me so I can ride indoors. I'm hoping logging my calories and the consistent exercise will be enough to stay at maintenance, but learning as I go. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have fluctuated up and down a lot over the last few years. My highest (non pregnant) weight was in early 2007 at 161lbs. I got down to 125 in 6 months and maintained around 130 for a while. Then 2 years ago I got up to 140 and realized I needed to drop extra weight again, so I lost 15lbs and got back to 125. The last two years I fluctuated between 130-136. Now I've lost weight again and have gotten to 124. I am only 5' 3" and a few pounds makes a big difference, so I need to give myself a smaller "flex" range for my weight.
