Hi! I am Sharon and I have finally met my goal the 2nd time around.
I lost close to 40 pounds and it took two years. It took me a whole year to loose those last 10 lbs. My weight range is between 120-124 lbs. and this morning I weighed 122.8.

Now time for maintenance. My first time with Spark People I lost weight down to 111 lbs. and due to moving, stress, working 50+ hours and caregiving elder mother I gained up to 161 lbs. within 6 months.

I don't ever want to gain this weight back and am looking forward to the support of you all and this team!.

Hello my name is CindyH and I finally hit my goal of 125 lbs! It has taken me two years to lose those last 16 lbs. I am 55 yrs old and feel like mother nature gave me some one elses body during and after menopause. I had to learn a whole new set of skills to cope. But finally success!

I read a spark article about maintenance and have decided to make 125 my top weight. Im planning to lose a few more so I have 3 to 5 lbs to play with.

I live in Oklahoma on a farm. I am employed as an acupuncturist and do Chinese herbal medicine. I am also a personal trainer and teach yoga. I try to help my clients with chronic pain issues, then figure out which of their muscles (and meridians) are contributing to the problem. From there I get them moving, stenghthening and stretching.

Hi, I'm Kate, and at 65 I am surprised that my weight is down to my twenty-something level. I'm 5'3" and went from a pear shape to an apple shape after menopause. I don't need to lose any weight per se, but my waist is still over 30 inches, and my waist:hip ratio is still about 86%. I am about halfway through a year of coaching by Precision Nutrition, and their strength training has helped me gradually regain strength.

I am happy maintaining my current exercise level until my body goes into decline, but by that time I should have much more muscle to sustain me. Also, I am content with my eating level, which is eating to live, rather than living to eat. I enjoy my meals and do not feel deprived. Since June, I stopped drinking alcohol and discovered I feel better; so I plan to continue making shrimp pasta primavera with white wine garlic lemon sauce, but opting out of wine by the glass.

Over the next 6 months, as I work on adding muscle, I shall see what weight becomes "normal." At this point, the waist:hip ratio limits my dress shopping options, so I will feel more comfortable after I release more of the fat layer around my middle. I may need to inhabit the lower level of the Normal range to achieve my goal. Time will tell.

Oops, when I came to SP in 2009, my weight was recorded as 176 on 7/12/09. I reached a healthy weight of 139.3 on 12/13/09 and maintained at that weight about 2 months. Due to a trifecta of stressful incidents, I reached 170.4 by 3/16/13, then 156.3 by 8/1/13, then rose to 168.1 by 6/02/14. Since 6/02/14, I have lost steadily to today's weigh-in of 122.1. I met my nominal goal weight of 125 by 12/10/14.

WOW! 60 pounds in a year. You are doing well.

This is a good place to be. You'll get the support you need to shed those last 15 pounds...or decide you didn't need to lose them after all.

Hi,
My name is Holly and I live in the Northeast with my husband and Siamese cats. For nearly two years I have been dumping thirty years of accumulated wiggly flesh and now am finally in the normal weight catagory. My health has improved 200% and I am feeling quite good. I have been able to do this by reducing my daily calories, giving up junk food and snacking. I have also increased my exercise and changed my attitude toward food and all things negative. I had lots of emotional baggage weighing me down and after I took responsibility for it, I was able to move on and find a happier healthier self. My diet is just as if I had been on maintenance all the time.
I look forward to being on this team.
Thanks for reading about me.

Hi
My name is Marlene. I started SP in July 2013 weighing 283 pounds and I am 56. By new year 2014 I was 228. My goal is 160 and I am 3 pounds away. I went from being barely able to walk due to osteoarthritis in my spine and my weight; to now pretty fit. From size 2X to size small on top and medium on bottom. Low point was when I had to buy a cane in NYC last June when my legs felt like they were going to give out due to shooting pains in my back. I lost the weight by being consistent with a 3X week 1 hour treadmill walk at 3.4 MPH and a lower carb diet.

I feel like I will reach goal within the next 4 weeks; and then want to continue to lose 10 more pounds. I don't find it hard to continue losing weight because its been my primary focus since July 2013 and I my food preferences and eating habits have changed. I still struggle in the evening with snacking; but I have managed to control it most days.
I was medicating myself with food to deal with emotional issues.

Hi All! Last spring I decided to go to the Caribbean with my daughter for a hiking adventure and discovered hiking there was going to be challenging. As a result, I set a goal for myself to build my muscles and lose some weight for the trip. I started riding my bike daily and started tracking my calories like I did a few years ago to lose weight. This time, I lost A LOT of weight! My original goal was 150lbs, down from 172, I'm now at 135!!! While I think it's great, my family is concerned I'm getting too thin, so I've decided to stop and transition to maintenance. I like how I feel and look, so its a fair compromise. I am very worried I will gain it back again so I'm looking for motivation and inspiration to stay at this weight. I live in a cold weather climate so bike riding outdoors is out for the next 5 months or more, so I've been doing some strength training and my sister donated her stationary bike to me so I can ride indoors. I'm hoping logging my calories and the consistent exercise will be enough to stay at maintenance, but learning as I go. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have fluctuated up and down a lot over the last few years. My highest (non pregnant) weight was in early 2007 at 161lbs. I got down to 125 in 6 months and maintained around 130 for a while. Then 2 years ago I got up to 140 and realized I needed to drop extra weight again, so I lost 15lbs and got back to 125. The last two years I fluctuated between 130-136. Now I've lost weight again and have gotten to 124. I am only 5' 3" and a few pounds makes a big difference, so I need to give myself a smaller "flex" range for my weight.

I've come from a Over 50+ with 25-40 Pounds to Lose to you guys! It feels great. And I'm almost off my Blood Pressure Medicine, too. The doctor agreed that I've stabilized the BP in the normal range and okayed my tapering off last Friday, so within 15 days I'll be completely off. I plan to keep walking to the Fire Station about every 7-10 days to get it taken professionally and see how it works without BP meds.

Hi All,

I lost 43 pounds between Feb-Oct 2013 and have maintained since. At 4'11", 43 extra pounds is several pants sizes (down from 14 to a 6 or 8). During that time I ventured away from SparkPeople to track my calories on MyFitnessPal since that's what my fb group was doing. I'm back tracking on SparkPeople because it's more fun!

The key to keeping it off this time is being in a routine of exercising 6x week. and tracking calories. I love the Beachbody DVDs. I've done Turbo Fire, Focus T25, and now Piyo. It's worked for me. I print out a workout schedule and stick to it rather than do random workouts. It eliminates the "what do I feel like doing today, maybe I don't feel like working out" excuse. I also treat myself to a blended, icy chocolate Shakeology after my workout.

I look forward to learning how everyone here is managing to maintain! It's so easy to slip back into old habits. I've been known to put the weight back inside of 3 months. Don't want to do that again!

Many congratulations on reaching your goal and on everything you've accomplished, Patti! Feels great, doesn't it?

Have a look at everything 4A-HEALTHY-BMI sent over to you--we've put together lots of resources to help people maintain so chances are, if there's something you've got questions about, we've got it covered--and let us know if you ever need anything. If you're looking for some daily interaction, the Daily Check-in thread is a great place to make connections with other maintainers.

Congratulations again and welcome to the team!

My name's Tina. I lost more than 90 pounds between March 2010 and March 2012 and have been keeping if off ever since.

Hi,

I'm Patti and I reached my 125 goal yesterday. It was easy to find your team. I think I typed "Maintenance" into the top Search box and you popped up. Now I've set another goal of 120 by the end of 2014, but whether I lose those pounds or not, I'm in MAINTENANCE and happy about it.

It's been two years since I was warned by several medical professionals that my weight (162) was too much for my height (4'11"). I had both hips replaced the end of 2013, and instead of reducing my activity level this has been an incentive to get back to active life. Using a walker for four months made me appreciate being able to walk. I hired a Personal Trainer to help the transition, and he's been invaluable.

I've gone from not being able to walk across the parking lot at the beginning of this year to 45-60 minutes of walking most days. In maintenance, I've decided to keep logging my food intake and exercise, increase the calories a bit, and keep the level of exercise I've become accustomed to. Mainly, because I enjoy my walks and strenth-training sessions.

Congratulations, Betty, and welcome to the team! Please have a look through the information that 4A-HEALTHY-BMI sent you and feel free to jump right in around the team. We're starting up a new maintenance challenge next week and the sign-up deadline is September 1. Many people also enjoy participating in the Daily Check-in thread for accountability and to make connections with other maintainers.

Congratulations again and please don't hesitate to contact me or one of the other leaders if you ever need anything.

emoticon everyone! I'm Betty and from PA. I started my journey on 3/20/2012 @ 207#. I reached a low of 138.5# on 2/26/2014 but started having some dizziness. It went away when I let my weight come up to 140#. My goal was 136# ( the high for a normal BMI) but since my body disagrees for now I want to stay under 145#. Looking back through my weight tracker I have been in this range since 4/22/2013.

My non-scale victories include..... kicked the soda habit, no more blood pressure medication, went from a size 20W to an 8 or 10 depending on the cut and the reaction of people who haven't seen me in a while ( this ranges from "you look great" to "your not sick are you" to people walking right past me unless I speak or am with my husband or daughter.
I'm looking to maintain for now and possibly slowly drop to the elusive 136#

Welcome to the team, Carri! As I've mentioned in previous messages here, some of the best ways to interact with the people here are to read and comment on their blogs and to join in the Daily Check-in discussions. I've learned so much from the people here and everyone is so generous with their support and sharing the wisdom of their experiences. Feel free to jump right in, start up a new discussion thread if you have any questions or to ask me or one of the other leaders directly if you ever need anything.

Hi All,
I'm Carri,
I am here because of Tina-Jane's latest blog. I am in awe of those at goal and love the advice about maintenance because all the valuable experience can be applied even now. I am so grateful this team is open to everyone. I made it to Onederland again this summer after many years and am fighting tooth and nail to stay here. My first lesson in what achieving a goal can do to your head, good and bad. This is my first baby lesson in maintenance and all the rock stars I follow have got it so right, life didn't magically get easier, maintaining even this loss is difficult, and is also worth the effort. I am learning to stop playing games with the numbers and want to get back to losing again. Thanks again for the invite!

Welcome to the team, Patricia! I've found that the best way to get to know everyone here is by reading and commenting on their blogs and lots of people also participate in the Daily Check-in threads to keep in touch with others here. I also like the accountability of the maintenance challenges because it's historically been so easy for me to veer off track. I've never had maintenance support before and it's great to know that I'm not alone in my struggles. Please jump right in, have a look through the information we sent you at your leisure, feel free to start up a new thread here if you have a specific question you'd like to put out to the team and don't hesitate to ask me or one of the other leaders if you ever need anything.

Hello,

After reading interesting and entertaining blogs from TINAJANE76, I was invited (by her blog) to read other Team members blogs, as well as to join the team. So here I am.

I'm not yet in my goal weight but 6 pounds from it. I've been several times at it and below, only to see all go wrong as time passes by, gaining not only everything back but more. This time my ultimate goal is not to get to my target weight but to be able to MAINTAIN.

I love SparkPeople, it has taught me well health wise, it gives me lots of tools, and the teams, the people, are giving me the motivation to see the scale move down but for the good reasons, and enjoying it.

I'll take my time to browse around and get to know all this Team offers. I've saved and keep at hand all the info you sent me as a welcome.

Thank you very much to all of you who so dearly contribute for this team to work successfully.

Hi Jess! Welcome to the team and congratulations on meeting your goals and recovering from your abusive relationship. This is a great place to learn more about what it takes to maintain from real people who are doing it. If you want some extra support and want to get to know some of the other members of the team, I suggest checking out the Daily Check In discussion threads as a place to start. I see you've also signed up for our upcoming maintenance challenge, which many people find helpful in staying focused on their goal.

Also consider checking out our Big Page of Links for lots of articles, blogs and other helpful resources all dedicated to maintenance:

tinyurl.com/maintenance-links

Please feel free to star up a new thread if you ever need anything or to send a message to me or one of the other leaders. Welcome again!

Hi, I'm Jess. I never thought I would do it, but I've lost 31 pounds since starting SP in 2009. I kept meeting goals, leaving, and then coming back a year later and deciding to lose a few more. I was never at an unhealthy weight, I just wanted to feel better about myself. Now I'm at the weight I weighed all through high school. I've lost every emotional pound I gained during a very abusive relationship.

I am unsure of what to do to maintain it though. I've always been bad at eating consistently. I know that I need to keep logging but I thought that maybe joining a team where people are in the same boat might keep me motivated. :)

Your happiness is up to you. Whatever happened in your life to make you who you are up until the point you realize this is irrelevant. It is your responsibility now to take control and change your life to be what you want it to be.

Energy and persistence conquer all things. Make time, not excuses.

Hi, my name is Carol (wife48). I reached my chosen goal yesterday. I began my journey in March of 2013. I have lost 67 pounds and have logged in each and every day for 445 days. I have decided to begin maintenance although I may try to lose a few more pounds. I will continue to monitor my food intake, continue my exercise routine and logging in each and every day. Although I will still be technically overweight according to the BMI scale. At my age I have to come to terms with fact that it is okay as long as I remain healthy. I hope that this team can help me on this part of my journey.

If you make the unconditional commitment to reach your most important goals, if the strength of your decision is sufficient, you will find the way and the power to achieve your goals.

Hello, I am Judy(SINGINGLADY47). I once weighed 357 and now am at 118. Please feel free to visit my Sparkpage to learn a little bit about me and my journey to maintenance. I still have some work to do with emotional eating and other little habits that could threaten my goal to maintain my weight loss. So, I am here to learn from others the tricks of the trade, as it were. I am from Tennessee, born and raised in Nashville and yes, I really am a singer. (Mostly for the Lord, now). My Dad was a country music singer in the 30's and 40's. I am looking forward to getting to know some of you. I am also a Leader of the Keep Walking With Jesus team. God bless your day. Judy

Welcome to the team, Christine! As a big loser, I understand the stamina it takes to get all of the weight off and sometimes a maintenance break is in order. It's pretty good practice too since it will give you an idea of what long-term maintenance is like (though what you need to do will likely be a bit different if your final goal weight is lower than your current one). Everyone is welcome here and, as you know, we encourage people to join before their at goal, so jump right in and let us know if you have any questions. Good luck and welcome again!

Hello there,
I've finally taken the step and joined this team.
I have lost a good couple of stone over the past year - the quarterly 5% WeightLoss Challenges.
But my skin is not shrinking with me - yes that featured blog said exactly what I've been thinking recently.
So I've decided to take a break from the weight loss, even though I still have a way to go. I have learned a load about myself during these 5% Challenges, and I reckon I should be able to get back to losing weight in a few months.

For the next few months, however, I'd rather stay where I am, and let my body catch up with me.
I'll be continuing with the challenges - there's accountability for exercise and for lifestyle as well, and maintainers are still welcomed.
So if I continue the exercise, and watch my food, - makes it sound too easy! But I know what I'm wanting to do, and I have an idea of how.

I'll be checking out the Big Page of Links as we go on, to get any more ideas, advice and suggestions.

Well, I am ready to declare that I am transitioning to maintenance. I say this with some trepidation. Thank you for the resources shared in the Big Page of Links and to those members that have responded to my questions. You know who you are.
emoticon

A year ago I began walking with a co-worker to reduce my stress levels. My focus was not weight reduction. I knew that I needed to reduce my stress to improve both my mental outlook and improve my physical health. I had allowed myself to gain 70+ pounds over the course of 25 - 30 years and I was close to an obese BMI. Mentally, I was a wreck.

For 6 months I focused on establishing and maintaining a regular walking routine. Near the end of that 6 month period I took a Health Assessment provided by my health provider and decided it was time to address my nutrition. It was at that time that I returned to SparkPeople. I had been introduced to the site in 2010, spent a brief time here and then allowed life events to derail my attempts at improved health.

I have made great strides in improving my nutrition over the past 5 months, have continued a regular walking routine and added strength training. During the past year I have experienced challenging life events that would have derailed my efforts in the past. Not this time.

Yesterday, I started using some of the tools shared (weighted averages, trend lines, etc.) to explore my past and current progress as I transition to maintenance and establish a goal weight. Honestly, I don't know what that number is going to be which makes me nervous. But, I realize determining that number will be a process of discovery for me and I am on my way.

Upon reflection in recent days, it seems to me that I never traveled this road before because I believed that it wasn't possible. I knew no successful maintainers in my life until coming across this site and team of people. So, I figured why bother. People lose weight all the time; but, they never keep it off. I trust that you are "real" people sharing "real" experiences and are not "virtual" creations. You have given me hope and provided inspiration.

I cannot say "THANK YOU!" enough to my co-worker and friend and those of you that have supported me in my journey.

Looking forward to joining the ranks of the maintainers...

Hi. I'm 4 lbs from my goal and am starting the gradual transition into maintenance. I am 59 yo female, married almost 28 years to a great DH and have 3 sons, 24, 22, 19. We live in a semi-rural area and have 4 dogs, 5 cats and a bearded dragon.

I started seriously working on changing my eating and exercise habits mid-July of 2013 and am thrilled at my success ( emoticon 76 lbs.) and feel great. I am determined to become one of the 5% who keep the weight off and believe this team will help me do that.

I love gardening, reading, kayaking, swimming, water aerobics, walking the dogs, hiking and cooking. I worked as a Registered Dietitian full and part time for 25 years, but have let my registration lapse. I'm an aspiring romance novelist who has written several manuscripts but am not yet published.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all and participating on the team.

Welcome to the team POSITIVEHOPE! I think you are so smart to join this team BEFORE reaching goal. I wish I had done that myself because I've learned so much from the other people here and from being active on the team. Please let us know if you ever need anything and feel free to start up a new thread if you have any questions you'd like to put out to the team. If you're interested in having regular interaction with other active members of the team. I suggest stopping by our Daily Check-in threads. And if you haven't looked at it already, I recommend also checking out our Big Page of Links. It's a great resource bank of articles, blogs, podcasts and other tools that can help in your journey to maintaining a healthy lifestyle:

Hello, I'm no where near maintenance at 234 lbs. but I am working hard a learning to make this a permanent lifestyle. It was easy in the beginning with weekly losses, loose clothing and feeling physically better. Now I have to find motivation in gaining insight into the inner journey. That's why I'm here. I figure this team will be a wealth of information, inspiration and insight. Hope to get to know you all and I promise to be a positive, supportive team mate.

Hi Team! emoticon

I am currently at 76 weeks in maintenance. Recently, I have been struggling a bit with mindful eating....I know the reason is that we are in the process of moving for the first time( family of 6) after living here for 13 years. We are so excited to be settled in our new house though!
The pressures have been heavy and I have allowed myself to cave into the habit of occasional mindless eating. Lol! It never pays to yield to that sort of pressure...of this I can testify to.

So, I chose what I believe to be MY main struggle...desserts. emoticon ....or anything that is laden with sugar.
I KNOW for certain that I simply cannot eat just ONE of anything. So, for me, I can't let myself begin. Today is Day 9 of my "no dessert" streak. So far so good...&100% consistent. emoticon I am feeling better, my digestion is happy, my fuel choices have been ideal for 9 days and I am anticipating prime health very soon.
I will NOT let myself cave in again....what a HILL to climb out of. Whew... emoticon

I hope to be more active here on this inspiring team....as much as I can.
emoticon for listening!

Some of you will know me from Chair Exercise Team - -I am an Australian and was 374lb approx (I work in kg) I have lost 143lb approx. but haven't lost for maybe 2 1/2 years now even though I am still 233lb(approx) !! In my case as in most people - its my own fault - I have "relaxed" in the important things like portion control but I still try to work hard on fitness and mobility and haven't actually gained
Unfortunately recently the health setback I had - I had a blocked bowel - and the hospital fiddled about and I didn't get any nourishment - except an odd saline drip - for 13days - yes I lost 15lb - but with it 4 years of muscle development and strength and my hard won independence!! So I have to start again building muscle strength and flexibility - I have kept half that hospital weight loss weight off though and the weight I had previously lost and fitness I had gained has doubtless helped recovery.
I was persuaded to join by 4A-HEALTHY-BMI - since I have lost 10%+ of my body weight and am keeping it off - however I - like many others I feel - thought that Maintenance was when one had reached their goal or "comfortable" weight and I have a ways to go before that.
I will apologise now as I will not be as active nin this team as I would like as the Chair Exercise Team and associated resources keeeps me busy.

Everyone smiles in the same language.

emoticon LLTHOMAS1117! I have never been that weight, but everyone is different. I weigh 138 and I don't look like i weigh that much, but I've come a long ways since I started 4 years ago and I weighed in at 195.
I wish you the best at continuing to maintain your goals! You are doing a fantastic job! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi - I'm Linda. I'm a "young and fit" 63 yrs old. I started at 173# in mid-March of 2013. I hit my original goal of 125# in the fall, then decided (with my doctor's approval) that I would be more comfortable between 120-125, and hit 120 in January. Once again, recalibrated (in league w my doctor) and decided that for my frame, etc., I would be happiest fluctuating between 115-120. I have been maintaining around 116-117 for the past 6 weeks, and it feels GREAT!!! And it requires logging all my food (forever), trading off "debits" and "credits" to accommodate special occasions, etc., weighing myself consistently and (key to success and health...) exercising religiously (!) - cardio, strength and flexibility -- on average, five times a week. I love the way I eat and move, and a whole host of aches and pains have disappeared. SO - to sum it up, I've lost 56-57 pounds over the past year.
