Thanks for the welcome Suzy. I can't wait to explore these team topics as I work on this maintenance thing.

Welcome, KT! I just joined this team recently myself and find it to be the most informative, motivational team I've seen. You'll find that members define maintenance differently, and you might even discover that you're already there, despite those 10-12 pounds you want to lose. Weight isn't the whole picture, but rather how you feel, body fat percentage, BMI, clothing fit, etc., etc.

Hi,
I'm a 60 year old retired woman who lost almost 40 pounds in 2 1/2 years (20 in the last year) and am down to my last 10-12 pounds to lose. I've been kind of stuck weightwise since June but have lost inches due to weightlifting. It was suggested it might be time for me to join this team as a way to meet others who are either at goal or close to goal.
The only place I'm really overweight is my belly and love handles, you know the classic muffin top. I don't care what I end up weighing, I just want that fat off so maybe I can get some ideas from all of you. I loosely follow the 17 Day Diet and I exercise a couple hours a day 5 days a week focusing on my core (zumba, weights, pilates, water aerobics and y box). I look forward to getting to know you as I get the rest off but it sure is slow....haven't lost a pound since June, in fact have gained about 5. Hoping to get going and get to goal by Christmas.

emoticon to the team! I have four kids ages 12, 14, 16, and 17 and have been maintaining a 40 lbs weight loss for almost 18 months. (I gained some and successful lost it again within the 18 months.)

Maintenance isn't easy, but it sounds like you are on the way to success. I personally believe in moderation and a weight range. This is a good place for the support that is often needed in order to continue our journey.

I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hi Maura and welcome to the team! I'm sure you'll be receiving the team welcome message from 4A-HEALTHY-BMI soon (if you haven't already), which will give you an idea of the different resources we've got available here for our maintainers. You also might be interested in checking out some of our Team Links, which you can find on the right side of the page under the Team Stream. If you have a question you'd like to put out to the team, please feel free to start up a new thread. The team's pretty active, so you'll probably receive lots of helpful replies if you do. Welcome again to the team, have a look around and if you have any questions, please don't be afraid to ask me or one of the other leaders.

Welcome to the team!

I know exactly what you mean by having to change the focus of goals, though I still have the last 10 pounds or so to still lose before hitting my goal for Christmas. Throughout this journey, I've made sure that I've not only had weight loss goals, but fitness goals that I've wanted to reach, so that the process didn't get boring.

I've also made sure to keep up with not only looking at the scale, but also getting my body composition done at the gym every 4 weeks and doing the "tale of the tape" the first Sunday of each month, so that I have other ways of measuring progress other than just the scale. I'm hoping to take those lessons with me through maintenance.

Again, I'm glad you joined, as it reinforces that I'm on the right track! WELCOME!

Welcome, and congratulations!
I've thought a lot about the idea of improving my running in some way...pace, endurance, not sure how yet -don't have a specific a plan. I know what you mean about fitness goals being a different kind of satisfaction than weight loss. It seems to be important to have some kind of goal like that once maintenance hits, or it is even harder.

I've been so inspired by TinaJane's blogs that I finally decided to join this team.

I'm Maura and after having 2 kids in 3 years, I had some serious weight to lose. I spent a year working super hard, learning a ton about nutrition was the key for me. Somewhere along the way I became a runner. Last year, I switched my focus to endurance running instead of weight loss. I wasn't quite where I wanted to be, size-wise, but I found it difficult to focus on long mileage + weight loss.

I found that a year of maintenance was just as difficult as weight loss. Fitness goals are awesome and I'm super motivated to beat my own times. But it's a different type of satisfaction than seeing the scale drop.

Now I'm working to get down a few more pounds or more importantly, certain pants to fit a little better.

I'm excited to meet new sparkfriends on this team!
