I'm not at goal either, however I wanted to be able to tap into the wealth of knowledge, experience and wisdom acquired from all you ROCK STARS of MAINTENANCE so I could join your ranks! :-)

Of course you can join now! :-)

Part of the reason I think I'm keeping it off this time is because I started thinking about maintenance early...

Never, ever, EVER give up!

Welcome to the team!

Maintaining is hard. My Dr. told me not to lose any more weight, and I told him I'm trying, but I also don't want to gain weight either. He totally understood. I'd rather lose a lb or 2 rather than put it on.

emoticon to the team! It sounds like this is exactly where you need to be to maintain the 50 lbs that you've already lost. Everyone is very supportive and full of great advice.

I have to share that I asked permission to join a team a while back, too. I was accepted as well even though I was gaining information for one of my kids. (She is recovering from an eating disorder.)

Anyway, check in often so we can support you on this journey!

Welcome! It's funny - when we're in weight-loss mode, plateaus are something we dread. But once we're in maintenance mode, we strive to have a never-ending plateau. So, as you continue on toward your goal, just think of any plateaus you may have as practice toward maintance. I hope you enjoy our team - it's a great place.

Welcome! When I started out, I said, "what healthy habits can I add to my life with the intention of them being LIFELONG?" That means each day I choose (again! ) to do those things For Today. That was almost 4 years ago. I didn't set a target weight. Just decided to see what I would weigh if I faithfully made healthy choices. 55# later, I stopped losing, and have been within 3-4 # of that number since then. If my weight goes up, I can easily identify the cause ... Skipped the gym, took 2nds at dinner, got into the candy drawer at work multiple times a day, etc. One Day at a Time, One Choice at a Time ... emoticon

for me maintaining means to continue doing the same I did to lose. I lost by clean eating and walking and am now in a plateau for life.

They let me join and I have an undetermined amount to lose before I call myself at goal. Weight watchers says 2 pounds, I say probably 10 more at least. I am doing this last part so slow maybe you and I will get to goal together ! They didn't kick me out yet either. This is a great group.

Welcome!

I'm also someone that is still in the losing phase (though I have 22 and change pounds to lose), but I've gotten some GREAT information here to help with my transition.

It's always good to plan ahead for the next step...just be sure that you still keep an eye out for what's in front of you too!

Look forward to hearing your perspective...

I'm also at the halfway mark - but a friend encouraged me to join. Learning to maintain (and not gain) is an important component of the whole big picture!

Of course you're welcome here--there's no requirement that you have to be within a certain number of pounds of goal in order to join! I wish I had started thinking about what I needed to do to maintain before I actually got to goal and I encourage you to take advantage of all the wisdom and experience our members here have. Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the team! I'm still am about 13 pounds away from my goal. I joined even though I still have weight to lose. I need to work on maintaining, especially with the holiday season coming. This is a tough time for me to stay on track, so while I want to lose, I'm going to work on maintaining, too. I need to keep off what I lost so far. A year ago the holiday season wasn't good for me at all, so I am going to have a maintenance mindset to get through it. I think with things like Weight Watchers we have this idea that we have to be at goal first. I never could get to their number. Which is something to think about. Maybe at some point we may decide to stop at a heavier weight before losing more. Right now for me, maintaining and losing weight go together.

Good grief, I didn't think anyone needed permission to join any team, for whatever reason, unless maybe you wanted to be subversive and wreck the team's goals because you didn't like it. But I bet that's not you! I wish I had been as brave as you, joining a team like this years ago when I needed to lose 50 pounds. The tools, data, information, tips, and discussions that you'll find here, let alone the support of people who have gotten to goal and learned that it can be even harder to stay there. Priceless!

Hey, Jeannie, my take on it is that "transition to maintenance" is a mindset, not a number on the scale. I certainly emoticon anyone who wants to think more about the process of maintaining the healthy habits and let the scale get where it's going at its own pace. emoticon emoticon

Hi,

My name is Jeannie and I wanted to get your permission before I joined because I am only about halfway to goal, but they wouldn't let me post without joining, so here I am, hope it's ok?

I have lost the same 50 lbs too many times to count......and I'm really tired of that, I mean really tired.

It has become clear to me that yeah, I can lose weight but I have no clue how to maintain it....
I thought midway to goal might be a good time to learn strategies to keep a healthy weight for life.

So with your permission I would like to join you, so I can set myself up for success.
If its too soon just let me know and I will opt out, no hard feelings.

Thanks and congratulations to you all for fulfilling your goals!

Jeannie
