I'm just getting into maintenance, but I'm another person who's not low carb. I'm mostly vegetarian (occasional fish, and most meals are vegan). I agree that complex carbs are the best choice--especially veggies and fruits! I try to be conscientious about getting in leafy greens (spinach, lettuce, kale, etc) because they are so darned healthy.

You don't need low carb, but more complex carbs. Eat lots of fruits and veggies. You will feel stuffed, but they are low calorie. Those carbs don't matter. I have gone over the recommended carb a fair amount, but as long as my calories are in check, its fine. The key is to make sure you have adequate protein and a little healthy fat with each veggie or fruit meal so you don't feel hungry later on.
Good luck with maintenance!

After many failed attempts at keeping the weight off eating low carb, I decided a balanced plan is the way to go.

I don't use low carb. Can you use a cereal like Fiber One? There are some that don't have artificial sweeteners.
