I had to learn to see the number on the scale as merely an indicator. I also used to stress over the daily fluctuations of the stock market, but had to stop letting it get to me. At least I have control over the scale. The stock market, though, is a tough one.

While in losing weight mode, I'd weigh daily. It kept me inspired.

In maintain mode, once a week seems to be working (maintained for over 1 yr)......but you have absolutely got to respect that number you see on weigh day. If it's up at all, it's weight gain and you need to rein it in.

Daily weighing gives you a little lee way because it can trend up and down with water........that was okay while losing.

But I stress respecting that number you see when weeky weighing, that figure is not a phantom, it's real.

I get too emotionally affected by the number so I stopped weighing daily. Now I think i've found a new solution - weigh at night after all my meals. If I'm still within range, then I know that I've done good. Will see how this goes!

I weigh in everyday..but like others here..am not obsessed with the results. I just use it as a key to know if I should cut back the next day..It does keep me focused on staying at this weight.

Like many others here, I also weigh weekly. In the past, the scale has "ruled my world", so I prefer use how I am feeling, how my clothes are fitting, honest assessment of my diet over the week etc. I continue to track daily which helps me stay within calorie limits plus ensures I have a balances the carbohydrate/fat/protein. When I first started tracking with Spark, I was surprised at how LOW my fat intake was

Almost every day. I like knowing where I am. If the scale goes up suddenly, I identify what changed, like too much salt the day before. If there's a slow trend, I can catch that, too.

I weigh in most every day. I don't feel I am being obsessive and I do not let it rule my day! If it did I would be hell to live with! It is what it is and I need to know how to plan my meals or skip that popcorn snack in the evening. I just want to stay on top of my weight "this time"! Instead of doing the same old things over and over again I want to see if I can break old patterns.

I have noticed that if I don't pay attention to the scale, it never creeps DOWN, only UP. If I had to be alert to the downs, I probably wouldn't pay much attention.

I think each of us needs to think about how that three pounds in our skull responds to the numbers we see on the scale. Depending on that and how long we have maintained, I believe the answer is unique to each of us....not one answer for everyone.

I have been maintaining for a little more than 2 years now. I weigh in every day - and I see it exactly the way NELLJONES described it. It does not make me feel obsessive, nor does it dictate my moods. It DOES help me plan my day though and keeps any weight changes small and fleeting!

When I was losing weight I weighed everyday, but recorded once a week. Always in the morning, buck naked after the bathroom trip.
Now I weigh every few days, still the same in the morning, etc.
My body also tells me if I am consuming to much salt, I feel all puffy.
I also have very tight jeans, if I have trouble fastening them, I know there is too much sodium or I need to watch my food intake.
I track everyday and plan to keep that habit.
I don't want to wait till the scales says 5 lbs gained. If it says 1 lb, I take measures to not have it go any higher.

I am now weighing for one week every day at the turn of the seasons. Then I average the 7 days and record the weight. I have two more weigh-ins before my 59th birthday. After that, I'm going to try a year without weighing, except for my anniversary, IF I am not more than 3 pounds above goal at each of the weigh ins. I'm willing to be more than 3 pounds down.

I've been maintaining for 5 years and now weigh myself just once a week . I always weigh when I first get up in the morning with no clothing, so I know I'm weighing just my body and nothing else. I know my weight fluctuates even from morning until night and if I weighed every day, I would react negatively to the fluctuations. By weighing just once a week, I have stayed within a lb. of my goal for 5 years. I still log in to Sparkpeople every day and record my food and exercise. Sparkpeople has helped me stay slender and healthy longer than any other program I have ever tried.

It isn't an obsession as much as an indicator. My hubby checks his blood sugar to determine what to eat, I check the scale to help plan my day. No angst involved.

I find it very intriguing that so many of us seem tied/addicted to our scales. I think over the first 2-3 years of maintenance, it may make sense, but after that I think we have changed one obsession (food) for another (weight). I may be way off base here, but I think that planning our food and fitness to keep ourselves healthy is the lesson of Spark.

hello! I weigh in each morning for a quick check. My "official" weigh in (that I record) is on Saturday mornings. I need to do that to keep an eye on things...like tracking food. I haven't been too good about doing that lately but hope to get back in the habit. emoticon

Calorie counts and logging fitness minutes are what keep me on track. I do not own a scale. How my clothes fit is another indicator to me about how I'm doing.

Every. Single. Day.

When I'm traveling I even bring one with me if I'm going to be away long and am concerned with accountability.

I also track my food. Sometimes on shorter trips I seem to be able to do ok without the scale as long as I make sure I'm completely on point with my food. If there's going to be any flexibility there, though, I'm better off bringing a scale and weighing myself.

Never, ever, EVER give up!

It's funny. I just read the blog where Spark Guy and other SP staff all state they don't weigh every day. That's great.

I, on the other hand, have been scale steppin' for the past 553 days. I've been on SP for 563 days! I like to do it, it's part of my daily routine, and I see what affects my nutrition. Fact, I've had moments of freakin' out...in the beginning of maintaining! Now I'm solid in my healthy lifestyle and secure. It's a healthy practice for me.

I weigh daily. Like some of the other maintainers here, I do it to keep the weight fluctuation to a minimum. Some weigh-in days are complete flukes (up and down), but if I didn't weigh myself frequently, I wouldn't know that.

Reached goal almost 3 yrs ago. I usually weigh myself first thing every morning. I expect some variation (2-3 lbs) but figure if it stays up for more than a few days, I better watch things a little more. Right now have been up 3 for weeks ... And I guess that means I've fallen back into some over-indulging patterns.

I have weighed myself every day since hitting goal a few decades ago. It doesn't affect my mood anymore. It just tells me what my food will look like that day. Best to adjust to a pound or so, even if it's "just water", than to let it become more than a pound or two. I have no problem with the occasional cut-back day if it keeps me from having to start over.

Hello there maintainers!

Just wanted to ask if any of you still weigh daily? I do but this month, I am going to weigh every other day and see how I fare. The scale has dictated my daily moods/emotions too much for too long. It's causing too much fear and anxiety.

Any thoughts on this matter?
