Here is a link about zinc, sources other than animal products.
http://www.vegsoc.org/info/zinc.html
Your body makes cholesterol regardless of whether or not you are consuming animal products. Its just that as our dietary intake increases (especially of saturated fats)...all of those elements have to be dealt with, and they get stored. And your blood cholesterol elevates. So I'm not sure where that article was going? Plenty of vegetarians out there who manage to have high cholesterol.

Welcome back!

Did you know you can track cholesterol in the Nutrition Tracker?

Did you know it isn't the frying that does the cholesterol but animal products?

I just learned this myself and 2 culprits that surprised me were shrimp and ice cream! Anything that comes from an animal, like cheese, has cholesterol. According to the article I read here at SP, your body produces the cholesterol when you eat animal products.

But we do need them, just in moderation. I also just learned that Zinc comes from meat! Too little Zinc and your hair thins!

This really is a learning journey!

Look for foods high in those omega 3's, salmon, flax seed, etc, my total cholesterol went down, and the good kind went up when I started having ground flax seed in my oatmeal in the morning...food for thought!

So the truth is this: I've been at goal weight for some time, yet I am not eating in a healthy manner. Also, my son-in-law just had his cholesterol checked and it's way off the charts. I am the one who prepares the meals for him and his family (which consists of my daughter and their three children), so I am back here at SparkPeople, hoping to re-connect, figure out a meal plan that we can all live with, and get us all healthy!

It's good to be back!
