Hi,
I'm LDS living in Norfolk, VA. I'm looking for support on this journey I'm going on to a healthier 2014. My goal is to figure out a gluten free eating plan. I've tried that short term in the past and was quite pleased with the way I was feeling as a result.

I am a Catholic Christian who deeply loves and respects the LDS Church. I have been so inspired in my life by your prophets and other Church leaders. I try to read the Church magazines each month and even back issues from years gone by. I don't always succeed in doing this but I try. I think the LDS Church publishes the best religious magazines any where.

Greetings, all! My name is Karen and I have just come back to SparkPeople after a two-year absence. I tried SparkPeople, gave up, tried to develop a healthy lifestyle on my own, gave up, joined Weight Watchers, gave up, and now here I am. I tend to be very solitary and reaching out to others can be difficult for me. I like to do things on my own, but clearly, that hasn't worked well for me when it comes to getting healthy.

In my scripture study lately I've been struck by what a magnificent blessing it is to even have a physical body and how the way I've treated mine doesn't show much gratitude or respect towards Heavenly Father. I hope that recognizing this will help motivate me to succeed in losing the extra 50 pounds I am caring around and to make a lifelong change in how I take care of my body.

In February I dislocated my knee and developed near-fatal pulmonary emboli as a result. I finally graduated from physical therapy last month but still struggle with fatigue as my lungs continue to heal. Not only does this mean that high intensity activity is out of the question right now, it also means that I haven't been able to regularly attend church or go to the temple. (I work full-time and am so exhausted by week's end that I sleep all weekend long. I feel like I'm turning into one of my cats, when I really want to have the energy of my jack russell terrier!) I'm really happy to find another way to connect with other latter-day saints.

My name is Jared I am from Idaho where me and my wife and 2 children live. This is my second time doing this diet but I am going to do it the right way this time. Good luck to all, I know this diet works if you follow it. I also attend the Lewiston 2ed ward in Idaho and glad to see that there are other LDS members doing this.

Keep trying your best.

Hello everyone! My parents were re-activated in the church when I was three. My life is surrounded by strong church members, not so strong, inactives, and non-members. I love each one! I know my mission on this earth is to love and serve all, but it is hard to do that when I am so focused on my poor health and habits. I want to shine, and I know the only way I can do that, and live a long life in the Lord's service, is to get healthy. After all, how can I share the happiness the gospel brings in my life if I'm not happy with myself? So, here I am! And I know if I rely on the Lord, and let your inspiration help me, it will happen! Thank you for your posts. Keep your light shining!!

If it wasn't hard, you wouldn't be getting stronger.

I guess I have never introduced myself to this team though I have been a member since I joined SP. I am a 71 year old wife, mother of seven, grandmother of 30 and greatgrandmother of 11. I have been a member of the church all my life and have a very strong testimony too, NAT-AGAIN. I am challenged by a less active husband and six less active children. But God be thanked He helps me daily to have hope and faith in Him that in His time and in His way they will return. Without the challenges I face with caring for my ill husband and two adult ill children living with us, my faith and testimony would not be as strong today as it is. I will admit I let the adversity get to me at times and I over indulge in sweets and junk food. I am learning to turn to the Lord instead of junk food to which I admitt I am addicted. I too am a yo yo dieter. My health is not good because of it.

Hi all! I'm new to the group, but not new to Spark. I was doing great last year, then fell off the wagon. So I'm starting again.
I'm a 44 year old SAHM, who is never at home. I have a 21 son, a 19 year old son, and a 14 year old daughter. I've been a member all my life and have always had a strong testimony. My boys are not active and it has been a challenge for me to not feel angry and depressed about it. But, I'm not giving up on them, and I know the Lord's time is not mine!
I'm happy to be here and get spiritual and diet support!

Hi! I'm Tricia and I am looking for teams to get and give support. My trainer was recommending the Paleo diet to me, and in looking around at that, I thought "What I really need is a Word of Wisdom team." I searched it up, and here you all are.

I grew up Mormon on the mid-atlantic coast and wound up attending the U of U, where I got married and I've now been in Utah over half my life.

My husband turned 40 three months before me, and right about that time I had a bump up in my weight so that got me thinking I want to get fit for my 40th birthday. I've been working out for about three weeks (today!) and have lost two pounds, and built a lot of muscle. I have foot problems, so I am doing strength training.

Hi Everyone. My name is Chris and I am brand new to Sparks. I look forward to participating with all of you as we work together to get healthy. I am a 56 year old married male and have decided that it's time to get healthy. My first goal it to get to 299 lbs. That means I have about 40 lbs to lose. I look forward to your help and support to reach this goal and i promise to do all I can to help support you when you need it. Together we can achieve anything!

Hello all. I have been using Spark People for quite awhile and was doing great, then fell off the wagon for also quite awhile. I decided to start all over - I even deleted my account and started a new one. I am the mother of 4 children ages 6 - 16 which we homeschool. My wonderful hubby is in the Air Force doing a medical residency. We're in the Dayton, OH area but originally from Arizona. I'm focusing on using the Word of Wisdom as my guide for what I need to work on. The next 3 weeks I'm working on making sure I get enough grains and vegetables. Looking forward to 'meeting' all of you.

Keep Smiling

Hi, my name is Maren and I live in SLC. I joined sparkpeople about a week ago, and so far I really like it.

I have two kids, the youngest of which is three months old. I'd love to lose the baby weight and have the energy I need to chase my toddler and lug my baby around all day.

Hi Annette. And welcome. I only weigh once a month, too. On the 13th. I think that's fitting. I've been amazed at how many things of a spiritual nature I've learned through membership on sparkpeople and my experiences with fitness. So many sacrament meeting talks I could start with something I've learned here.

Yes, you can!

Hello. My name is Annette and I live in the Bay Area, California. Joined Sparkpeople about a month ago and have been pretty diligent with tracking nutrition and exercise. Only going to weigh once a month just to enter here, but really want to focus more on measurements and body fat percentage. Looking foward to a team where I can discuss how my progress fits into my life as a member of the church. Took advantage of the open temple today. How I love it there. Feel free to add me as a friend on your sparkpages. Spend probably an hour a day on the site.

Hi. I'm new to this team, but not to Sparkpeople. I've been using it off and on for a few years. I've never tried a 'diet' - always knowing that exercise and good eating is what should be done to lose weight, but I haven't succeeded until I started really studying the Word of Wisdom - there are so many golden nuggets in there. That is my motivation now to be able to say I fully follow the Word of Wisdom - not just the don't's. I've been married 17 years, we have four kids (dd - 16, ds - 14, ds - 10, ds - 6), we homeschool, my dh is in the USAF and doing his general surgery residency here in Dayton, OH. I have found I LOVE bicycling. That is my main workout during nice months. I may not be on here a lot. A few ladies from my ward have started a group of working out and supporting each other in our quest for a healthy life. But looking forward to 'meeting' all of you!

Keep Smiling
Debbie

Hi! I was glad to find this team page. I live in the Dallas area and just joined SPARK last week. I'm excited to read about all of you. Happily married, have three kids in college and one in highschool. Son at BYU and son at A&M. My daughter and her husband go to BYU idaho. She is an exercise science major, so naturally is encouraging my efforts on this website. You would think being busy, I wouldn't find time to overeat, but am working on getting some healthier habits going. I appreciate the support!

Hello, my name is Val and I know "king" from another team we are both on.

I've been with SP a little over a year and am at my goal weight. I'm sticking with SP for two reasons: 1) support and resources for good health and weight maintenance and 2) maybe I can be a resource for others too.

I joined this team after a lot of thought because I'd like to include the spiritual aspect with the physical.

Val

Hi,

My name is Tracey and I just joined the Stormin Mormon team. I am happy to be a part of this team.

I eat when I am sad, happy, lonely or to celebrate. I have not relied on prayer to help me on my journey but I like the idea of learning to walk with Jesus as I take this journey to better health. I look forward to participating in the challenges and I look forward to being a friend to many of you. emoticon

Hi Brothers & Sisters,

Guess we're way over due, with introducing ourselves;I haven't been as active with this Team,or really any of the SP Teams, since re-joining SP a few months ago.We apologize.
We are Will/Bill and Maggie Colbert-now living in Appleton,Wi.as of March 1st,2008.
We are both Converts to Our Church-Maggie in 1973,and myself in Feb.2004.
We Love Our Heavenly Father,Jesus Christ and our Appleton 1st Ward. There are wonderful Brethren in our Appleton Ward, and we have made several good friends, during our first Year here.
Maggie and I have been called to be Ward Family History Consultants-and we also are Volunteers at our Ward/Stake Family History Center-2 days a week.
Maggie also has been called to be our Ward Music Director.
We look forward to meeting and getting to know as many of our "Stormin Mormon"Team members as possible.
Our recent General Conference(April 4th and 5th )was terrific, and most Spiritually enlightening-as usual.
We know that the messages from the G.C.will help us to grow and be better Saints.
We wish all of you a most Blessed and Happy Year in 2009.

Hi! I'm Amy and I've been a member of SP for two weeks. It finally occurred to me to look for an LDS team when I saw that many people I've been conversing with on here are members of Catholic teams. Anyway, I love SP!

Hi. My name is Bobbie. I have been an active Spark member since October/2008. My oldest daughter started last March and looked so fabulous by our family campout in June that her sister started in July. Same thing. So my other daughters, daughter-in-law, and I got on the bandwagon! Now we're all doing it. We did the BLC challenges before, but now have our own family team. I just wanted to see if there was an LDS team because I've been talking to lots of people in my ward about Spark.

Hey all - I was on here last year without much success. After my Dad passed away from breast cancer in September I kind of just fell apart and cut myself off from the world. But I am back, stronger and more motivated than ever. This year - in tribute of my Dad - I went and had a mammogram (ugh) which thankfully was normal - a real physical - which revealed that I am diabetic and I had a sit down face to face meeting with myself in order to get my health in order. It hasn't been easy. I finally am making progress with my weight and I feel so much better!

Hi Everyone,
I'm a backsliding SparkPerson. emoticon but, I still come back here and I know it's all going to kick in soon. LOL

Briefly, I'm a convert to the Church. It has been 13 years as of January 7th. I'll be celebrating my 62nd birthday on February 26th. Still can't believe it. My body feels my age, but my mind and spirit feel like I'm seventeen at times. I like to stay in a young-at-heart frame of mind along with using my wisdom of the ages.

Looking forward to some 'sparks' happening and I get back on my way to the cheerleader's body I had back in the 60's. Now quit your laughing emoticon ... that's just not polite.

Hello,

My name is Jen and I live in Washingotn State. I have three kids and just turned (ssshhh!) 40. It's time to lose the baby fat since my baby is 8.

It's only been two days, but I've been doing very well. My husband signed up too.

We're hoping to ride part of the STP this summer (Seattle to Portland Bike ride). The problem is that you either have to do it in two days (Sat. and Sun) or do all approx. 230 miles in one day, Yikes! Either way, we need to get in way better shape!

Glad to find some Gospel buddies to share the journey with.

Hello, I live in Provo, Utah. My name is Lisa, and I have been a member of Sparkpeople for quite a while. I converted to the church in August 1998.

My children are grown, and I live with my husband, who is antagonistic to the church (although he was baptised and confirmed in 1999) I am happy to have recently moved to Utah, where it is easy to get a ride to church and attend regularly!

I have lost over 100 lbs with Sparkpeople, and am now working on my second hundred this year. My highest weight was 495. I love this site, and am a leader of the Team 300 lbs Plus.

I am excited about joining this team because I need to grow spiritually as well as shrink physically! I hope to be a benefit to this group, and to gain a lot from being a member here.

Lisa

Hi, I am from VA and hoping to lose weight and increase spirituality. I am a convert since 1995. I am married with 6 grown daughters and a 4-year-old son. I am also the grandmother of 5. I left my job 5+ years ago and found being home to be too much of a temptation in the kitchen. I love to cook and eat. I just need to choose healthier foods and be more active. I know what I should be eating, but putting that together with family meals has been more of a challenge. I am motivated to lose the extra weight with my daughter's wedding in the planning.

Hurray for teh Stormin Mormons!

I'm Emily. I'm a 28 year old single woman living in the Seattle area. I'm a graduate of BYU. I left there with two bachelor degrees. One was in Psychology and the other was in Special Ed Teaching. I have a minor in English. I'm in my fourth year as a Special Ed teacher and I really love what I do!

I live "alone" in my condo with my two dogs. Now that school is finished and I have a stable career in place it's time to earn back the body I used to have before those late night "study" parties.

This looks like a great team. I can't wait to find success with you!

I was so excited to find this team. It was very hard to jump in on LDS ladies because it seemed so large. You all seem like a great bunch.

I'm RuthAnne. I'm 46, with four children ages 10 - 4. I've been a member since I was 8, so that's all my life pretty much. I served a mission in France, attended BYU for one year, graduated with a BA in Math from a college in LA, and graduated from the singles' ward with honors at age 30. In those days in that area, they sent you back to a family ward if you weren't married by 31. I've lived in Seattle and Portland for the last 18 years.

I love my life, although things are very hectic. I bring a lot of it on myself by taking on new things all the time, but I procrastinate less when I have way too much to do. emoticon

The past is history, the future a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

Hi, I am Marlene and I live in Utah. I was born and raised in the LDS Church. I came across SP by accident and I joined around Thanksgiving. I am struggling with the daily exercising, but it's just a habit I've got to make as I did not exercising. I have 4 sons, ages 17-24, 1 daughter-in-law and an Old English Sheep Dog named Winnie. I have been married for 30 years. I am dying to become a grandma, but it looks like I am going to have to wait. I really love this site,I think I found my answer to getting my weight off. Can't wait to get to know everyone on this site.

HI to All! My name is Mary. I am a convert to the Church since 1997, greatest decision I ever made. I am single, no children but I have a furry baby. I am trying to lose the last 50 lbs. I have joined Curves.

Hi Eileen- welcome.. wow- 8 children. I have 4 grandchildren with one more on the way (my son's children). I only had two. I am very blessed. My son is moving to Kellogg Idaho. Don't know exactly where that is.. I think north Idaho but I will have to look up. I have 3 older brothers, two younger sisters and a younger brother. I once asked my Momma how she kept from going crazy, she told me she didn't.. she said I just hadn't noticed that she is crazy... silly Momma...

Hi, my name is Eileen and I live in southern Idaho. I have been a member of the church my whole life and yet it seems like I am learning things for the first time. I raised 8 children the youngest of which turn 25 in 2008. 6 weeks ago my current husband got custody of his 13 year old son and so after having an empty nest for many years we have a teenager in the house again. He is a real joy to have with us and I really miss him when he goes to spend time with his mother. My current husband is husband #3. My first husband was killed in a train-pickup accident with my Dad. My dad turned 80 in 2008 and is suffering from alzheimers. My second husband died of a heart attack while walking out of work with his foreman. The Lord has richly blessed me throughout my life but there have been many times when I didn't recognize the blessings until later, usually much later.

Hello all- I am Anna. I live in MS and attend the Collierville 1st Ward. We have two grown children. Both married. Daughter lives in Alaska and son lives currently in Colorado and will be moving in a few months to Kellogg Idaho. He has 4 children with another on the way. Those are my grandbabies and they love me. I am their Memaw.

I joined Spark because of some health issues and the Doctor said lose weight. Funny, they don't tell you how to do it, just do it. So my daughter told me about Spark and I signed on. I love it.

I have gotten active and started walking. I am the current leader of Walking/Leslie Sansone Team. I try to walk at least 10,000 steps per day and most days I go way over. A couple of days ago I got in 24,000 steps.

I teach basic computer classes part time and I take care of my parents. We call them my children. They are lots of fun, in their 80's and can't live on their own. I have fun with them, taking them shopping, doctor appointments, McDonalds, parks, garage sales.... Just plain old fun.

I am married, have been for 35 years. Been in the Church for 20 years.

Hi, I am new to this group, took quite awhile to decide on a team, but this one seems to be the best fit. I am a 44yr old mom who works from home. I have an eighteen yr old boy who just graduated hs and a 14yr old daughter. Oh yeah, a husband as well!
We live in the country in Nebraska (I know EVERYWHERE in Nebraska is "in the country"! I mean not in town. I love my life, but I want to look and feel healthier--it would be nice not to fit the profile of a "fat american"! My biggest problem is that I lose about 10 pounds and get a little "cocky" and think I can backslide a little--before I know it, I'm right back where I started! So I am trying again. michelle

I have been on another LDS team for about 2 weeks, but after visiting your team, this looks like the place I would like to be. I love your topics and your huddle wall. I have about 80 lbs to shed and need a lot of support. I am 68 years young and want to have positive thoughts. I looked at the board for my age group and most were discussing ailments. I like to look away from that sort of thing. Hope you can accept someone my age.

Hi everyone. I have been on SP for about a week and a half and just found this board. It seems like a wonderful place to hang out and I can't wait to get to know you all. I'm 40 and started this summer with 42 pounds to lose. I have 3 fantastic kids, a daughter (20 yrs.), a son (almost 14 yrs.), and a son (8 yrs.) I'm a school teacher so I have the summer without a full-time job and the kids went to spend a month with their dad and I decided to use the time wisely on improving me in the areas that need work. The first place I started was with my health. With SP and the momentum that I am gaining, I think this time I will be able to reach my goal weight and stay there. I love the recipes, nutrition and fitness tracker, the informational articles, and the boards. I'm ready to really get moving with all of you! emoticon
