Welcome to you and Marley, Walking him will become a way of life and keep your exercise level up. I walk our little Hobo and it is the best thing I do twice a day.

Germanirishgirl, thank you. A random fact about me is that in a nutshell, I'm half Irish and half German. There's a little Welsh in there, but not enough to talk about.
Beckyanne1, that's true. We enjoyed our walk this morning. He wanted to keep going! I was beat around the halfway point. I finished my walk and feel great. It was cooler than I expected. Cool, but not too cool.

Welcome to the team!
Just remember, they can't walk themselves. They rely on us to take care of them and to keep them healthy. Good Luck!

Thank you, Cookie! Your picture is adorable.
I think it's safe to say that I'll be walking Montana today. It's just after five a.m. and I was going to get up at six. Going to head out when the sun starts coming up.

Tweetykc00, I wish he would get me out of bed! He's a very polite dog when it comes to food and sleeping. I trained him too well in those areas!
Quagaar, I have one of those for Montana, too. He's only 38 pounds, but he's strong. And fast. I should enter him in dog races. He's caught and killed two squirrels. No rabbits as of yet. The head halter worked well until he figured out how to get out of it. :/ I use a regular halter on him for car rides and walks. He hasn't bothered trying to get out of it. I think he likes it. He gets really excited when I bring it out. I guess it's because when I do that he knows that he gets to go somewhere with me. I've been told that when I leave, he sits at the door and stares at it for awhile.

Montana looks just a bit smaller than Marley who weighs in around 100 lbs. He is very strong and we had to get him a haltie that fits over his nose and straps around his neck. It is not too uncomfortable but he responds so much quicker to a tug on the leash than if it was just attached to his collar. We learned from our dog obedience classes that this method is a very effective way to keep independant minded dogs in line.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I plan on starting to walk Montana tomorrow morning. Getting up at six is going to be interesting. I'm not a morning person and caffeine makes me ill. Quagaar, Montana does the same thing. I don't run, but he'll try and take off after a squirrel or try and greet another dog. I just about get my arm jerked off. As soon as I can afford it, I'm going to do dog training classes with him. A friend did it with her dog and said it was a lot of fun. I have walked Montana in the mornings before. I lost six pounds doing it, and then I slept in one day by accident and slipped back into old patterns. I need someone to drag me out of bed, lol.

Talia. I have recently started to walk/jog with my dog Marley. Its been a challenge becaus ewhen I run he decides there is something irresistable to check out and I get suddely pulled back from my forward progress. I retaliate by upping the pace and at the end I have a happy tired dog. I am not sure though who is the most tired

My name is Talia and I am mom to a three year old border collie/lab mix. His name is Montana. I'm 23, a college student, custodian, and I sell Avon on the side. I really need to start walking Montana every morning before it gets hot(I work nights), but I tend to hit the snooze button. I'm not really a morning person. Montana begs for walks. I took him to the vet yesterday and got told to quit giving Montana treats and to walk him. Mont gained 4 pounds since last year, so he needs the walks, too. He's supposed to be around 34 pounds. Here's to meeting new friends!
