Thank you for checking this out. At the point I gave Apopcaps to Breezy, she was really far gone, so nothing would have made a difference. But aI was desperate, grabbing at straws, looking for a miracle.

One thing I would have done though before she ever got cancer is I would have continued giving her the BARF raw food diet that I had originally started her on when she was 1, and I first got her. She thrived on it. In fact I got the BARF recipe I used from a Rottweiler breeder's website online. They got fed up with losing their Rotties to cancer, so they took a time out for a while, and figured out a good raw food diet, and their dogs are living a normal lifespan now, no cancer. Dr. Dressler, the dog cancer vet, says standard commercial dry dog foods are extruded at very high temperatures, a process that creates carcinogens.

I never lost a dog to cancer until recently, and I'm wondering if the change in the manufacture of dog food had something to do with it. The premium dog foods, like Halo, Blue Buffalo, etc., that you buy in pet stores, not the supermarket, are a lot safer, and it's worth the money to go with them. Anyway that's my thoughts on this. I'm glad you are looking into this.

I was just looking through the posts here and saw this. I have been looking into supplements for my dog and looked into Apocaps. I found out that they contain soy lecithin which is very dangerous to give to a dog with cancer because it makes the cancer grow faster.
It's such a shame that you had to go through this, but everyone should be careful and look into the ingredients of supplements they are giving their dog.

Oh Kathy, I went to your page, and read your blogs. The tears are still coming, and I know exactly how you feel. You write beautifully, and it touched my heart to read about your beautiful Lucky, and your wonderful daughter, Meaganne. I've had that special bond with a few dogs in my long lifetime (I'm almost 67), and there is such a deep grief when I have lost them. I'll never forget them, ever. Losing two at a time was difficult this past 6 weeks. Thank you so much for sharing your feelings. I really appreciate it. Hugs, Nathanne

When my Lucky died it nearly killed me. I can honestly say that I have never in my life felt grief of that magnitude before - not even when close friends and family members have passed.

Someone suggested I write about him, that perhaps that would help - which I finally did - twice, and that really helped me. It is still not easy all the time, but with every day that goes by I do cope a little better. Both pieces I wrote about Lucky are on my spark page if you are interested in reading them.

Take all the time you need to grieve for your wonderful Breezy, and then to heal - you deserve it!

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts. The way this went with losing Breezy, I have a sort of post traumatic stress situation going on. I keep getting flashbacks of putting her to sleep, and how awful things got at the end with the tumors. She was such a fantastic dog, and I miss her so much. I've lost many dogs over the years, but this one was the hardest to lose. It's been hard. I guess it takes time to process the whole thing, but right now I am in tears every day when I think about her.

I am very sorry for your loss. To lose both so close together has to be very hard.

The best years of your life are the ones in which you decide your problems are your own. You do not blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the president. You realize that you control your own destiny.

I'm so very sorry to hear about you having to say your final farewells to two special family members in such a short space of time. I too have had to do this, more than once so I know how hard it can be. We lost 2 on the same day several years ago, and then mother and son within 6 months of each other.

Know that you are remembered, loved, thought about, and prayed for.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your precious dog. I know how you feel as I lost a dog to very large cancer tumors. It's so hard. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you!

So sorry for your losses. It's so hard to say good-bye to our pets. You did what you could for them.

Thank you for having the strength to tell us about the Apocaps - it will help others making an informed decision if we face a similar situation.

Im so sorry to hear of your losses. I wish I had something to say to help you but I know all too well that nothing eases this grief except time. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers and if you can, take comfort in knowing that Breezy and your bulldog girl knew they were loved and they had wonderful lives with you.

My Rottweiler, Breezy, had to be put to sleep today. She had osteo sarcoma on her head, and got these big tumors under her eyes and on her forehead. She was in a lot of pain, her vision was getting bad, and she was having trouble opening her mouth to eat. I didn't want her to suffer anymore.

I did try Apocaps, the holistic herbal formula by Dr. Dressler, that is supposed to fight dog cancer. It's hard to say if it did anything for her. The cancer was so aggressive, and inoperable because it was on her head. One problem with the Apocaps is you have to give them between meals for full effect, and you can't give anti inflammatory medication when you use it. So I couldn't use Rimadyl. I used Tramadol only, which didn't give as deep relief. When I stopped the Apocaps, and gave her Rimadyl she got better pain relief, and could do more things. The Apocaps are expensive, $60 on Amazon for 90 pills. You give them by weight, so at 85 lbs., Breezy needed 3 pills 3 times a day. I felt I owed it to her to try it out since it couldn't hurt, and I hoped it would help her.

One other thing I did that seemed to help was I took Dr. Dressler's advice, and bought some Halo dog food. I got it online from my vitamin website. It smells so good, is made with human grade ingredients, and Breezy loved eating it. I had to feed her with a spoon or with my hand since her mouth was so painful. The cans are only 5 oz., so 3 cans is like one regular size can. It's expensive, $1.39 for one little can. But I knew Breezy's days were numbered, and I gave her this instead of the steak the vet thought she would like as one of her last meals. Her coat was really nice after a couple of days on Halo. I wish I had given her holistic dog food the whole time I had her. Whether home made or canned, it really makes a difference.

We've been crying lots of tears, and the house seems really empty without Breezy. I had to put down my English Bulldog in December, she had a very aggressive case of breast cancer, so this has been a rough couple of months. I appreciate all the support from everyone on this team, and I want to thank you so much for the kind Spark goodies and messages. I hope my experience can help anyone going through something like this.
