First of all congratulations on the birth of your little girl! As a mom I completely understand your situation and motivation. I also gained a lot of weight through two pregnancies and finally decided I needed to loose weight because I didn’t want my kids to have an unhealthy mom. I wanted to be active with them and teach them good eating habits and a love for exercise.
I started out at 189 lbs. and lost 40 lbs. in six months. I did it by logging my food intake and working out 20-40 minutes a day at home, alternating cardio and strength training. A year later, when I felt strong enough, I joined a gym and started taking group fitness classes. There’s nothing like healthy peer pressure. With that I dropped another 10 lbs., but more importantly I became fit, strong and confident. All that is great, but the best part is that my six and four year old children eat healthy, love to exercise with me and love going to “exercise school” which their version of gym daycare!
You are right… it is a new lifestyle. Just remember to give yourself a free day so that those cravings don’t get the best of you and you don’t get burnt-out. Eventually you will begin to crave lots of healthy food alternatives and learn to LOVE exercise. The stress of motherhood can be so demanding, but exercise can be a great outlet.
You CAN do it and keep up the great work!

Welcome to Spark! You've lost 2 pounds since last week? That's awesome!
I had great success when I first started by being sure to track all my food in the nutrition tracker and exercising in little amounts whenever possible (wall pushups in the bathroom at work, leg lifts while waiting for the microwave, etc.) I suggest you also join some teams -- that really helps!

Hi all, I'm Karin and I started my new lifestyle last week at 220lbs. I weighed myself this morning and I've lost 2lbs. so far. I set a small goal for myself of 200lbs. After I reach my goal, I'll set another.
I'm 30 years old and with my husband welcomed our first baby 5 months ago. She's such a sweetheart and I couldn't imagine doing this if she wasn't such an "easy" baby. I want to lose my weight for the longterm, I don't want my baby girl seeing me heavy and always worrying about how much I weigh...
