Hi Becky! Welcome and so great to meet you! So, you are planning on making your first 1st Communion dress. Join the club! I have 3 kids as well....much older. Our son is 27 and married (as of last year) and we have 2 daughters, 12 and 14. Six year ago, I made our 14 year old's 1st communion dress from a pattern I found 10 years ago in Sew Beautiful magazine. It's an Edwardian reproduction called, Isabelle. I'll find some pics, but it was a month in the making and stunning once completed. Her sister decided she wanted to wear it 2 years later for her 1st communion...whew!!

I am Becky and I have been sewing off and on for about 18yrs.

My mom taught me and is my inspiration. I started out with doll clothes for Cabbage Patch kids, moved on to kids stuff, and too many failed clothes for me.

Sewing is not natural to me like my mom, but I try and do my best every time. I want my kids to be proud of what I make them. I am currently in the process of cutting out robes for my girls and just finished a robe and pjs for ds and an outfit for dd1.

OH!!! Sorry I am a SAHM to three kids dd1 6yrs, ds 4yrs, and dd2 22months. ^_~

I love making kid clothes and my biggest project will be in a year for dd1 Communion dress. Afterwards, I want to make my girls wedding dresses (I know a big project one my mom will never do, but my dream).

I have to learn how to embellish, but I am getting better again with every outfit I make. I love buttons and I get them from my mom and mil and then I buy them ^_~.

Try to do most my sewing during the day when the kids are playing or standing behind me on my chair watching ^_~. I just wish making clothes were cheaper then buying like when I was a kid. Now you have to wait for great sales on everything to make something cheaper than buying...KWIM

Anywho, I hope to bbl tonight to read posts and get involved. I hope to post pictures soon.
