Hi everyone, I have been on and off SP for several years. I am back and determined to get in shape. I turned 40 in September and found out that if I don't lose some weight I will have to go on cholesterol lowering meds. I will not be doing that!

I have a wonderful DH, 3 kids, 22, 15 and 6, and 1 granddaughter who is almost 3. I work full time as a Support Coordinator at a software company. We raise alpacas, rabbits and chickens.

New to the Spark, I think this is probably my 500th attempt at losing weight. It has been a struggle for me for as long as I can remember. Now that I have reached middle age, I am ready to live the second half of my life in better shape, control, and spirits! emoticon

Slow and steady wins the race because a year from now time will pass and you can either be in the same place, or you can find yourself closer to your dreams!

Here we go again --

My name is Holly, and yep, starting again. When I first found Sparkpeople, I weighed 238. Through great community and online friends, I got down to 160 pounds (10 pounds from my goal weight!!). That was 5 years ago. Then, as things go, I fell off and over the course of time, I've gained 20 back. Several false starts, and nothing has changed. This year, I began a part time job with a multi-sport company, thinking that it would inspire and encourage me to get back on it. You would think that I would be in the best shape of my life, but I learned that it is a lot like my full time job as a librarian... you love it, but rarely have the time to do it for yourself... and as a result, have gained 10 more (I don't feel too bad about the last 10, as most everyone in the sport company gained over the summer as well).
So triathlon season is winding down for Indiana (our company has one more event), and I'm DETERMINED to get into shape and actually DO one next year, and hopefully lose 40 pounds in the process. I just need to focus! I sit here thinking "come on, Holly, you know how to do this, you've done it before", but having a group or someone to nudge me in the right direction would certainly help!!

Holly

Hi Everyone!
I am new to this group. I have been on and off SparkPeople since 2009 (I think) but something is different this time. It seems to be working, probably because I'm sticking with it even when I lapse for a couple of days. With the exception of the past weekend when I took a mini-vacation, I've been pretty consistent for about six weeks--the longest I've ever been on a diet/lifestyle change. I'm excited to join this group and get to know others here.

I'm working today to make tomorrow great!

Hi everybody!!! I am so happy to have found this team! I am so excited to meet all of you. My name is Janel aka bigbrightstar... and I have to admit I freaking love being in my 40's! Everything is better. I am older, wiser and frankly I don't give a sh!t about anything anymore! The things that used to bother me don't!!! Its fabulous! Seriously! I have alot of goals! Not just with my fitness piece but with my whole life. Maybe I am having a mid life crisis but I don't care! I am just having alot of fun. I want to get fit so that I can be healthy and keep having fun for another 50 maybe 75 years? Who knows? My kids are grown they are 23,21,19 and 16 so they are well on their way. I have been married to my best friend and love of my life , Paul for 24 years and counting! He is great. By the way, It is so true what they say about women in their 40's if you know what I am talking about! Some people hated turning 40 but I love it and I cant wait to see what life is going to bring me next!

Hi, my name is Lisa. I am 48. I need to lose 15 lbs. I belong to the Y. I do take exercise classes. I enjoy spinning. I don't go as often to the gym as I should. My kids always have something to do. I try to walk my dog. I did jog this morning with my kids. I love eating. I need to be motivated to exercise more. I hope we can help each other on this journey.

Hello Ladies,
I'm Valerie and I need to regain the "fabulous" mentality back! I'm a 46 year old mother of two and a new GG (Gorgeous Grandma) to a 2 month old beautiful granddaughter. I have been married to the love of my life for 25 years in November. I am pledging myself to get healthy and fit. I always put others needs in front of mine, but have realized it's me time now. I have over 100lb to lose, so I'm taking this journey one day at a time!

HELLO KELLY

I to have forgotten the fabulous....but I'm ready to find it. Vermont is soooo far from I L L I N I country ( that is where I am). I don't feel 40's in my mind ( just this darn body some days) so fabulous is in there! Glad you are on sp. I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes but it is so prevalent in my family i fear it coming if i don't STOP this insanity of the ever growing waistline. Eating out of depression can be so hard, and stopping those comfort foods. UGH! I feel ya. Well here's to hoping we find all the support and motivation we need on the journey😊

My name is Rachelle. I am 40 1/2. I have been using the sparkpeople app for a while now. But don't get on the blogs to much. It seems very busy. But this team sounds just right. I will focus on this one and not so many others😜 that will help. I'm a married mother of 2 boys 16yo and 12 3/4. They are BUSY BOYS. Sports are our life( so it seems) we are on the go a lot and trying to eat right isn't easy. 🏈🏀⚾Good Choices choices choices is what I need to do. I just joined a gym and feeling really good about working out 40-60 min 3-4 x a week so far for 2 weeks now. I have to do this for a healthy future. My dad had open heart at 50 ( scared to think that could be me).🚨 reality check is I want my hubby and I to be able to enjoy life together on the go for MANY more years.💏 Not sitting or one of us "taking care" of the other ( in a ailing way). Small obtainable goals...then on. Please " friend" me ( is that to fb like) lol. Need the chats and support. God bless and have a sparky kind of day!😊

Hi, my name is Kelly. I'm 44 and unfortunately have forgotten to be fabulous, so that's why I'm here. LOL emoticon

I have been wonderfully married for 22 years. I have a 17 year old son and 15 year old daughter.

I live in Central Vermont. I was born in Illinois; both my parents born and raised there and have many relatives still residing in IL.

I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes this past August. I'm starting this journey at 170 lbs. with a goal of 140 or less. My high school senior summer, when I met my husband, I was 128.

I am 5'2"....I've been dealing with weight issues since college days. I've always felt that if I were only a few inches taller, weight wouldn't have been such an issue! ;)

I lost my dad ten years ago this coming April when he was only 57 to brain cancer. He was my best friend. I miss him still every day. I have had some depression issues with his death and overeating as well...my "comfort" foods are pastas, fried foods and bread. (talk about hurdles with low-carb, huh? LOL!)

I did Nutrisystem three years ago and lost 25 lbs for my mom's wedding in Cancun; I was walking 5-6 miles a day. Since 2011 I have gained 17 of those pounds back and have not been exercising at all.

With my diabetes I have decided to do a low-carb way of eating; not no-carb, but low-carb. I would love to be friends on SP with anyone else who is living this way of eating. :) As well, of course, with meeting other Fab, Fun Forties!! I look forward to making new friends, learning new inspirations and just living life in the 40s to the fullest! emoticon

Hello forty-somethings! I am "reconnecting" with SparkPeople with a renewed committment to my health and losing weight. I am a happliy married mother of two boys, 17 and 14. I am in the Coast Guard and only have to lose about 8 pounds to be in compliance, however I want to lose 40-45 pounds to be where I want to be. I have plenty of workout/exercise material, including a treadclimber & bowflex in my house, plus I just got Hoopnotica for my birthday and have also been using Dance Central on XBox as a tool. They have a fitness program!

My biggest obstacle is time. I work a forty hour week, and I have a one hour commute each way. By the time I get home I just want to relax. I know that exercise will help with stress, and will also help me sleep better so I am more rested, not to mention I'll have more energy. I'm looking forward to making this permanent change!

Happy New Year!

Well, hi!

I've been on SparkPeople since the end of December 2011. I did ok for several months and then kind of dropped everything. I'm back, but I really need a community that I can belong to. Perhaps one with similar struggles. So similar age group sounds about right.

I'm 41, although most days I tend to forget that. Happily married for 14+ years, with a 6 year-old daughter. I also work full time (which never seems to mean 40 hours anymore) and still find time to play chauffeur for my daughter. I love cooking, although I hate that I have about 30 minutes to deal with it on any given day.

The two things that drop in my busy life are (a) cleaning the house (frankly, I was horrible at it before I was uber-busy, so I can't even blame work/kid/insanity for that) and (b) me. Indeed, I had been on a roll of exercising at least 3 times a week at the gym from about July 2011 to March 2012. And then I got a new job and everything went KABLOOEY!

Still struggling with finding that rhythm. Right now I'm just struggling to eat right and not eat too much.

I am a forty year old mother of four. I'm also recently married to my best friend. I am a step mother to three.

I joined weight watchers last year, and lost 30 pounds, but have recently put half of that weight back on. My husband loves me just as I am, and doesn't really understand why I am so down on my weight. I feel beautiful and enjoy who I am as a person, but I don't like the weight I am at.
So many people don't understand that just because I feel I'm overweight does not mean I have low self esteem. I am a confident woman. I am good at my job. I'm intelligent and read people very well. I know that I have many good qualities and I'm an attractive person. This being said, I also know that I am not at a healthy weight and would rather look better in a bathing suit

emoticon

New to the site and still trying to figure it out, but always willing to chat with new friends who understand where I'm at and what I'm going through.

I am a 44 year old second chance mom. I have a boy in college 19 and a daughter on her own she is 23. I started on a new medicine to help with chronic migraines, what I did not know is that one of the side effects is weight gain. I gained 50 pounds since June 2011, so in a little more than a year. I survived a terrible car accident where 3 people where killed, and two seriously injured. I am one of the seriously injured survivors. This is also a problem for exercise. I have a titanium rod in my right leg, plates and screws in my right arm, and a very week and painful right ankle. The right ankle prohibits me from doing a lot of activity, it swells and I am in constant pain day and night with it. So I do lead a very sedatery life and wish to find other activities to implement and help with my overall health and well being.

I'm not sure if I ever introduced myself to this team so here goes.

I am 42 years old and have two children a boy 16 and a girl 12. I started my weight loss journey last year and did well for 8 months. I lost 17 pounds and hit a plateau. I stopped exercising the last two weeks of December and haven't been able to pick it back up. I would exercise for three weeks straight and just stop, so I'm hoping to get back on track.

Good Luck everyone with their weight loss journey. Let's get these pounds off and keep them off. emoticon

I am a 48 year old working mother of 3 boys. 21,15 and 8. I have been on many weight loss programmes and generally manage to loose weight, but its the keeping it off.
I was going OK until a family crisis earlier in the year which lead to bad eating habits creeping in and far too much wine, so the lbs started creeping on. So I am now addressing this problem again and it is so hard.

All help will be gratefully received.......

I just turned 40 and like some other posts I have read here I thought I would have my fluctuating weight problem in check by now. I keep losing 30 pounds and then gaining it back. Luckily I don't gain back more. It is always 30. My goal is to lose 50. I always come so close and then can't make those last 20. Well, maybe not can't, how about don't!
So, I'm hoping to really get it together this year. The worst part is not even the weight coming back. For me, it's the feeling of failure. I have a harder time being around people I know because I feel like I might be judged. I know they probably aren't judging me and it's my OWN voice judging me.
I have had a hard last two months since the weight returned. I don't want to shame myself since I become this person with low self-esteem that keeps shaming herself! Who wants to live like that?! Well, apparently I did but I'm sick of my BS and so, here I am. Hello!

I always thought I'd be in shape by 40. All through my 30ies, I kept telling myself that... But my 40th birthday was two months ago and I'm still here with my 10+ kg to get rid of. Oh well, there's always 50 to aim for, right? emoticon

Hi everyone! I'm 44 years old and feeling pretty fabulous today since a new friend was convinced that I was 22 years old and wouldn't believe otherwise!! Now if someone could just swear to me that I look like I'm 130 lbs... haha. Glad to be here and hoping everyone is doing real good today!!

I am 45 and live in the Seattle area.
I have been having a hard time fighting diabetes and gaining weight from down time due to 2 operations last year.
I am so tired of feeling tired.
I have 3 wonderful and kind teens. I home school 2 of them and run my hubby's office. It leaves me very little time for myself or to exercise.
I am trying to take back my life and get healthy.

Life is too short for stress.

Hello. I am 41, soon to be 42 (7/8). I have been married for 19 years and have 2 teenagers. I love all animals and currently have an 11 year old pom named Tucker and 11 Firebelly Toads. I joined SP back in 2008, but fell off the wagon and gained all the weight I lost and then some. I started back on Wednesday and am down 2.2 lbs as of yesterday's weigh in.

Hello, Sparkfriends! My name is Stephanie, and I'm a 41-year old work-at-home-Mom living in the south with my husband of eighteen years and our two children. I recently reached my highest weight of 325 pounds, and I am now on my way to losing the weight and getting my life back. My husband and children deserve a happy, healthy wife and mother, and that's what I'm going to give them. I would love to add some new friends so we can help support each other! Good luck to you all!

Hi everyone. I am 42 years old, married for 25 years. I have three children, 22, 23, and 25. I am going to be a grandmother for the second time in just a few months. I have been struggling to lose weight since my 30's, but this time I am determined to get where I want to be. I enjoy reading, watching movies, baking, shopping, going on new adventures, taking care of my grandson, dancing, sunsets, and an occasional glass of wine. What I want back is that feeling of being able to wear clothes that make me feel good, and, most of all, I want to be healthy. So here I am... this sounds like a fun team to be on.

Hi!! I am 46 and a wife of 25 years and mom to an almost 21 year old daughter. I am here to hopefully get insight and inspiration to finally lose 50 pounds and keep it off! I have been working out for over a month and trying to eat better and more often little meals. I dont normally eat enough I have found out. Hi - I'm 44 and a wife, mom and grandma... My kids are 11, 14 & 25. I sure wish I could keep up to them. I love golfing, gardening & reading. Right now I don't have much energy to golf, so that's one of my goals. I definitely struggle with motivation - the food part has been easier than I thought, but the exercise is definitely tough for me - I will use any excuse not to do it - even though I know how good I feel after I exercise...

Hello friends. I am a return to SP. Quite honestly I have been slacking for a little bit over a year. No real reason why. The most important thing is being back. Trying to regain my focus on the goal of improving my over all health and wellness.
I am a 42 year old mother of 1. My little boy is 8 years old and all boy. Married 19 years. Also have 2 dogs, both from shelters.
I am an RN, but working in Case management. I am a telecommuter which allows me some unique opportunities to work full time, yet be more involved with family and community.

Hi all, I'm Stephanie and have been on and off the boards for years. I have lost my 50 lbs multiple times only to gain it back. Most of my gains have been started up when a parent was ill and I was dealing with their medical treatments.

I have also noticed that the older I get, the slower it comes off. Man 10 years ago I could lose it super fast, but now that I am into my 40's, it is harder and harder. Anyway, glad to be a part of this group, last time I was on spark, I was in my 30's so I was in one of their groups, and yes that was a few years ago!

Not new, but returning after a long absence. I'm 47, single, American but currently living in Western Africa, and struggling with how to combine a busy schedule and active social life with weight loss and developing an exercise plan. I would like to hit 50 in a healthy, fit body.

Hi! I'm 45 (46 next month) and very proud of it! I'm also an older mom--my son is 10 years old--so, I don't know about fabulous but I'm definitely busy! I saw that someone had posted they lived on the Isle of Wight; I lived in London for a year as a student and did the toursit visit to the Isle; it is a great place. I loved everything about England. I'm new to the Sparks site (today is my first day), and I'm really loving all the team sites; it is great to find so many places to go for support. I'm starting @ 262, so here's to a long but successfuol journey!

Hi, I am 46 and have been overweight for quite some time. I have dropped weight in the past but like another post I saw here - the excuses get in the way. It is time to take care of me so I can take care of and have fun with my family. I don't want to think about not being able to get my snow pants on to sled with my kids or looking horrible in my swim suit. Life is to have fun and the weight is just plain getting in my way.

Looking forward to this!

Be consistent but not boring.

Hello, all. I am 46 and have been told I am fabulous and fun, so hopefully I'm qualified to be here! I found SP last summer and have been using the site ever since to plan meals and learn how to lose weight healthfully. I have a bunch of forums on my subscriptions b/c I like to see how others with things in common with me are going about their journeys. And it's also helping me find new ideas and learn new things that I can use in my daily life.
Thanks!

Howdy Team~~I'm Monique or Mo & my typing is getting very bad, so bed might be in my future! emoticon I'm not new to SP, but I'm coming back after a long hiatus. I'm slowly building back to being healthy. I've been walking on the treadmill at work for a few weeks now. Last week I started back to taking vitamins. Have to figure out my goal for this week. I wish everyone a wonderful week of successes!!!

Hi Everyone! I am 41 and not new to SparkPeople. I am tired of being overweight and unhealthy. I have made excuses the last 4 years for my negative attitude and unhealthy diet. I've decided to make some changes. I am going out of my comfort zone this year and will meet my goals. I am going to lose 40 pounds this year. I am also going to run a half-marathon. Before I say, "I'm not a runner." I will tell you that I have never run competively but I am a runner and an athlete. I just need to find her buried under all of these excuses. Each day is a great opportunity for me chip away at the old me. I'm looking forward to this group and the support I know that we can give each other.

Hi! Not too new to Spark, new to this board, I've been away with sciatica that is finally getting better after a year. I was able to walk, but no running or weight lifting until about a month ago.

I'm in my late 40's and found myself jumping up and down on my scale this morning because I thought it was lying to me :). I am going to try and keep tracking my calories consistently again, that is how I lost the weight to begin with. I don't need to lose too much, but as we get older, it sure does seem to take longer to come off..

Hi Shelley and welcome to the FFFs! Feel free to dust jump right on in the weather here is always fine! Just don't jump back into exercising too soon after your surgery. Make sure you are healed enough first. Don't want to injure yourself! Good luck to you and I hope to get to know you better. Come on over to the daily chat thread and let us know how you are doing!

Hi-- new to this forum but not to Spark People.

My weight has bounced around recently, going down when things are going well and going up when I get too stressed out by my own ineffective choices as well as the decisions of those around me.

I'm now convinced that comfort eating is not a payoff for putting up with the "less than happy" stuff that rolls my way, because the consequence means that I gain weight!

I am turning 41 this week. I feel like I am 80. My body is screaming at me to shed this excess weight and start living. It's not about looking great in fashionable clothes, though I will surely enjoy that too, it is about keeping up with an active 9 year old. He wants to learn to snow ski, I think oh man my knees and ankles. He wants to go to Disneyland, I think will I fit comfortably on the rides, he wants to go to water parks, I cringe at the idea of wearing a swim suit. my weight is not just affecting me, it is affecting him and our livability as a family. I also see him adopting my poor eating habits and starting to gain weight himself and that is my worst nightmare come true. I have to set and live the example. I have to make healthier eating choices and move more. I have battled weight issues all my life and lived on both extremes but never at a healthy medium and it is time to set that as my goal. I have 82 pounds to loose, a lot but it is not impossible. I want to move at least 10 min every day. I want to stop relying on fast food, and I want start living! I appreciate any help and support you all can give. Good luck to us all in the new year!

Hi! I'm Joanne. I'm 44, a mother of three and married for 20 yrs. I joined WW a couple of months ago. I was doing pretty good until the last two weeks. I don't have much willpower around holiday food! I had lost 15 lbs. I won't be surprised on Thurs when I weigh in. Anyhoo, my friend told me about SparkPeople, so I thought I'd try it out. I actually joined a couple of yrs ago, but forgot all about it. The pics on my profile are old, so I'll update them soon. Thank you for having me in your group. Looking forward to your insight and support.

Someone please tell me how to download a weight ticker. thanks! emoticon

Jo :)~
