My name is Melissa, and I run a handmade jewelry business called Uphill Dreams. I'm almost done with my eCommerce website, and I'm preparing for the fall craft fairs in central Florida. I am also going back to college next month to finish my BS degree.

I was SO excited when I found this team, only to discover it to be a ghost town. I love the premis here, and I want to see this team thriving again, so I have applied to be the team leader. I should hear something from SP soon, so hopefully I can help all entrepreneurs here, including myself, thrive once more.

Glad you stepped up to the plate! I just found this team and was really excited about it. So happy it did not close! Keeping weight and fitness commitments while running a business is a challenge. It is so nice to have a forum.

Underwater hockey --hmm -- just saw something about it in our local recreational guide. Interesting.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't send out a team e-mail, but I will do so.

Underwater Hockey Championship of the Universe is an annual underwater hockey tournament that our club hosts every year. The past few years it has been in Key Largo, Florida. If you want to see what underwater hockey is, you can check out the USA page:

The Championship of the Universe web site is here, although unless you're attending, there isn't much of interest:

Thanks much, Gladgad!

A couple of things:

1. The team announcement and the latest email on the subject says this group is closed, so I was coming to unjoin. Maybe send out another announcement or email so people know we're alive and kicking?

2. What is "Underwater Hockey Championship of the Universe" ?!? LOL

Thanks again!

Carolyn,

Thank you so much for stepping up to be our team leader!

Congratulations on starting your new business for senior moves. Having gone through a senior move four times, I know how important it is and how life changing it can be for seniors. I also have a heart for working with seniors and have thought of services to assist them.

My companies provide small business consulting, business seminars and bookkeeping. If you want to brainstorm via e-mail about your new business, feel free to e-mail me privately. I love to see women succeed in business and would be happy to offer any advice or ideas (at no charge).

On the fitness topic: I am very impressed with your weight and activity. I am struggling since I run two businesses and tend to give up sensible eating and exercise first when I get busy. I am making forward progress however by starting on SparkPeople (which is an awesome tool), exercising with my 15 year old son,

Thank you again for becoming our leader and for your introduction. I look forward to being a member of this team.

Sandy

I am glad someone has taken over the team so it doesn't close.

Great job on reaching your weight goals. I myself am signed up to run my first 5k race in May. I am training for it now, doing the C25K program.

On the business, I would market to all of the assisted living facilities and other such communities in your area. Tell them what you offer and leave business cards. Maybe even offer them a referral fee. After all, everyone you would do business for would be speaking with them first to set-up living arrangements. It's worth a try anyway! Best wishes!

Hi Everyone,

I saw that this team needed a leader so I am stepping forward. A little background on me:

I started my business last summer after yet another contract expired. With a really poor outlook on contracts for IT project managers in my area, I decided to start a senior move management business. I help seniors who are moving from their homes into a smaller residence, such as a senior community or assisted living facility. I set up their new floor plan, guide them through the downsizing process, and pack for them. I then do the unpacking and set up their new residence from making the beds to hanging pictures.

Unfortunately I am having a difficult time getting the business off the ground. I have consulted with a couple of sales and marketing folks through SCORE and the Florida Women's Business Center, both of which are funded by the SBA. Hopefully their advice will be fruitful for me. Otherwise I will have to go back to the 8-5 grind sitting in an office all day, and I kind of don't want to do that!

On the fitness front, I am around my goal weight. Actually I would like to be a little under as I enjoy racing - both running and triathlon. I have found it's easier to haul myself around if I weigh less. I recently completed my first marathon, but since distance running wastes muscle, I now need to build that back up. I'm looking for that perfect balance of muscle and racing weight. I am not a vegetarian, but I try to keep the meat to a minimum. As a distance runner, nutrition is very important so I closely watch what I'm eating.

If there is anything that you feel would help you along with your work-life balance, please let me know or post your questions. I know what a challenge it can be.

-Carolyn
