Hello. I'm new to this group. I'm 33 yrs old, 5'6" and weigh about 98 lbs. I am trying to gain healthy weight and just recently realized this is way more important to me than my fiancťe. I've been trying to talk to him about all of this, and he is great at listening, but doesn't really offer anything new or understand how it makes me feel to have everyone in the world tell me to eat more. I'm hoping for some understanding, advice, and support. I recently started using Dr Furmans eating plan. It is hard to get enough calories that way, but I feel better when I eat. Also, i feel like i can eat more before getting full. Anyone else tried this? Also I need to start exercising some. It just seems very hard to make myself do so much when I feel like I'm in it by myself.

Hi Folks, So glad to find this group. I'm a married 50+ empty-nester who's always been slim with fairly stable weight. Lost about 7 pounds last year and haven't been able to gain. My challenge is to find forms of exercise that keep me interested. I know I've lost muscle but can't seem to stick with any exercise program for long enough to see results. Hope to buddy-up with some of you so we can keep each other on track.

KSPITZER11 - sounds like you would enjoy some complex carbs like whole wheat, brown rice, granola, etc.

I am a married 33 childless lady form South East WI.
I am so glad to see there are so many others with this issue and I am not on an island on my own! I tried to find sites for people who are thin but they are all for people with eating disorders. I do not have an eating disorder at all. I love food eat without guilt (one of the problems I have with eating junk).I have been trying to gain weight in a healthy way. Though my bad food habits (mostly pasta and meat) have started to reek havoc but not in the form of gaining weight. This last year I notice my body changing and I need to uptake my fiber to help prevent digestive issues (constipation is starting to get chronic) and honestly eating the planet like products helps me. I have one issue though and that is trying to get over 2000 calories without having to eat fast food, tones of fatty meat and sugary stuff. To be honest I canít get to 2000 let alone over. Granted it isnít that a donít enjoy bad fatty fast food (I love bacon too) them I am quite addicted actually, but my family (even though we are on the skinny side) has a history of high blood pressure, and bone dieses, arthritis and heart issues. Currently I do fine but I want to prevent things as much as possible and eating crappy food just isnít going to help me in the long wrong. Also when I do gain weight the only it place it goes to is my stomach. THE ONLY PLACE I DONíT WANT IT!! I want it to go to my ridiculously skinny legs, arms, and a little more padding in my butt wouldnít be bad either lol.

Foods I donít like:
All nuts including the fake nuts peanuts
Really bitter veggies and I despise broccoli
Beans (the texture just turns me off and makes me gag)
Fish and Sea food

Foods I like:
Most dairy
Most meets (beef isnít my favorite but I can eat it)
Fruit lover
Veggies I do like (far and few between but opening up to some): Green Beans, Raw Cauliflower, Carrots, Salads with various lettuces
Pasta and grains of any type!

Hi, my name is Kim. I once weighed 300 lbs. I had gastric bypass in April 08 and was doing well until I broke my jaw in Feb 2010. I went all the way down to 100 lbs but then did start gaining weight back. I started developing an ulcer which caused my stomach to be blocked and could no longer keep anything down including water. The ulcer eventually ruptured and I've been in and out of hospital. Once again got down to 100 lbs and doctor became extremely worried and put a feeding tube in. I'm slowly recovering and I'm up to 115 lbs with the help of the tube, but I need to gain about 15 more lbs. I never thought i'd have the problem of not being able to gain weight but it is a struggle and most people don't understand as they tell me things like drink more milkshakes. If only it were that simple!!

Welcome Tom!

I hope you have the opportunity try the food tracker. It helped me both to see how much I was consuming, and where I could add additional calories.

Don't forget that snacks can help you, too! Nuts, nut butters on bread or crackers, avocados, granola, etc can be healthy snacks and high calorie if you eat a decent portion.

Good luck emoticon

Hello guys - I have just joined Spark people and I am very excited to have found this group.

I am 34 years now and I am battling with my weight ever since I can remember. I had as a child an overactive thyroid which was removed in my 20s, however the slim physique stayed with me. I am trying to put on weight for a very very long time with varying success. My biggest problems are that I forget regularly to eat, my portions are to small and when I am stressed, again, I deal with it by not eating. To all of that comes that I am an active person who likes cycling, hiking and climbing. I really need to change my eating habits to reach my goal and hope that Spark people will help me on the way.

Thanks for having me in this group and take care guys - Tom

Thanks! It did take some effort. I hope you have good results, too.

My metabolism will probably slow down when my pulse is gone. The women in my family who are older (60's and 70's) are still thin as well.

When I get motivated again, I'll probably use the tracker again. Just have other higher priorities currently. When I was in the habit of tracking every meal, I really got a kick out of seeing the calories add up! If I was a little lower than intended one day, I knew to make it up the next day, and plan a little better.

It's good to read about your experience and advice here! People have told me I'll start gaining weight after my metabolism has slowed down, but looking at my older sister and mother, that's not going to happen. The change needs to occur NOW for the sake of health, 5'4" and 87 lbs is just not a good place to be. Congratulations on your weight gain! I'm very grateful to have found a community on here, since it can be so difficult finding people who can relate. At times it feels like in order for the community to be more accepting of overweight people, the methods they use is to employ attacks on underweight people, and that's just not fair.

Family and friends lead me to believe I'm extremely thin, but from reading some of these posts, there are apparently people thinner than I. It's hard for me to imagine 5' 4" and 90 pounds. I have never been less than 102 as an adult. But, we all just have the "thin gene", I guess. We have to work at it continually, just as hard if not harder, than people trying to lose. I am proof that being in mid 40's does not automatically make you gain weight either!

Hi there! It's nice to see new people coming on. I've not logged on in a few months. I've gained a few pounds and am now around 114 or so. 120 still seems so far away. I'm not gaining currently, but I'm not losing either! I was eating six times a day, but I've slacked off to four or five.
Good luck using the tracker. It helped me.

Hi! I'm 25 years old and have always struggled with being underweight. I'm 5' 4" and currently 87 lbs....I want to set 100 lbs as my target weight but will be really happy if I can hit 105 or 110. My mom's side of the family has a history of anemia and low blood pressure and a ton of underweight related health issues....low energy, feeling faint, iron deficiency, irregular periods, etc... I love food and eating and hate exercising and have a very sedentary lifestyle, but it's still it's hard for me to gain weight and when I'm stressed I lose my appetite....I just joined Sparknet today and hope the calorie tracker can help me increase my daily calories and get to a healthier weight. I am also looking into some excercises to increase muscle mass and maybe gain weight that way as well.

Hello. I am a 27 year old mom of 2 and gymnastics coach. My whole life I've been underweight to such an extreme that I've often been asked if I eat at all. Right before I got pregnant with my second child (he will be 2 this June) I weighted about 80 lbs. Luckily I gained some weight while pregnant but within a month after giving birth I was back below 100. I've tried eating more, changing what I eat, and eating anything and everything to no avail. A few months back I switched doctors and my new one expressed real concern about my weight. She had me track what I eat for a month which showed me that I wasn't eating near as much as I thought I was. I found the spark people app on my phone and loved it. It helped me realize what and how I was eating. Gave me info on what is in what I eat (calories /fat/protein /etc). Now all I needs is to increase my calories and hopefully gain the weight I've never been able to gain and keep it on.

Howdy!
Yes, a new one comes along every now and then.... I'd like to gain around 10 pounds; I'm currently at 110 pounds, and 5' 5". I'm female, mid 40's, and have always been slim.

I started a couple of months ago on one of the other tracker sites. The first few weeks, I just wanted to see how much I was consuming. I averaged about 1970 calories per day. I decided to bump that up to 2000 and pay attention to the macros to see what effect that would have. After a couple of weeks - no gains.

Now I'm aiming for 2200. It's kinda tough to eat that much without cow dairy, wheat, soy, or processed foods. I try to get 1 1/2 to 2 servings of the main meal component, and I "snack" on nuts, nut butter, granola, bread, eggs, etc.

I like that more nutrients can be tracked here as opposed to the other site. Maybe I will be able to cut back or stop some of the supplements, if I see I'm eating them instead.

Good luck to everyone!

Hello, my name is Kitara. I am currently 24yrs old stand about 5'2" and weigh around 115lbs(well today at least). The surprising thing is I eat alot of food in general, my serving sizes are anywhere from 4-8 "normal" serving sizes, but I still don't gain weight very often. I have an undiagnosed illness which prevents me from gaining weight often and when I do it does not last long. When my illness wants to cause me pain I will loose 5lbs per day. I decided to join this group because I am one of the minorities as well as to receive and disperse any helpful hints

Yay! I'm glad I found these groups!
I got the app on my Android about 2 weeks ago, and only just started exploring the website.
I'm 5'3'' and currently 95 pounds. I used to be able to stay around 105-108, but with my depression and multiple medications, I can't seem to keep any weight on! I have a tiny frame and have always been on the underweight side, plus being a vegetarian (who can't stand eggs or animal milk) sometimes makes it hard for meals to be super high calorie.
I'm currently trying to eat some peanut butter daily, as well as make smoothies with protein powder. I'm also going to try to get some nutritional yeast to add to foods.
Any helpful hints are appreciated!
- Rae

Welcome aboard!! We don't get many posts on this forum since it has a real minority membership. I have gained 3 lbs. using the Nutrition Tracker. When I first started tracking my diet intake, I was amazed to find out how few calories I was actually consuming, far less than I had imagined. My second surprise was how much food I had eat in order to get up to 2000 cal. So my suggestion is that you use this tracker. It is very user friendly. One tip is to eat Larabars. They are healthy and high calorie. I wish you success and let us know how you are progressing. emoticon

Hey everyone! wow it's so nice to see a team like this. I have been trying to gain 5-10 pounds for the last year (nearly) since I lost a good amount of weight a year and a half ago due to stressful life events. I am 5'7.5 (small frame) and about 106lbs- my first goal is to get to 110 and then work from there. Do any of you have advice on how many cals to eat, exercises to do or not to do, and the ideal weight for my height?

Any help and support would be amazing, as all my friends and family are trying to achieve the opposite goal and just think I have an eating disorder! : /

Yes I noticed that no one has posted for months and wondered if it is still active. I am 5' 4" and weigh 114 lbs. I should weigh about 120 - 125. I can skip one meal and lose one lb so when I'm sick, I will lose 5 lbs at least.. It is a mystery to me why I am not like everyone else when it comes to gaining weight. I even cancelled a magazine I subscribe to because I was sick of all the articles dealing with LOSING weight. . I am happy to have found this group so I don't feel so alone. I am going to give the Nutrition Tracker a workout! It seems to be a really easy to use program. Blessings to everyone.

Hi Iím new and noticed your post. I donít know if you had any luck conceiving yet. But something you might want to think about is getting your pelvis aligned. And looking into Hypnofertility.
I was really under weight when I conceived my babies. So weight might not be the problem.
I wish you the best of luck.

hi!
I don't know if this forum is active, since noone has posted in the past 2 months? But I joined anyway.
I need to gain weight too! I've always been thin, and I seem to have fast metabolism. I swear I could eat pizza every day and still be within the normal weight range. Now I don't, so I'm underweight. And I also love running, so I need to compensate the calories somewhere.

I've been trying to concieve for 7 months now without any luck, and we're starting to think it might be because I'm a bit underweight. I don't know if I'm ovulating. My BMI is 17-18, I'd like it to be 21. Hope to find some helpful info here!

Hannah - Hi! I'm sorry I didn't reply to this earlier! It seems like there are very few people active on Spark that are trying to gain weight. Since you give your weight in stone, I'm assuming you're from Britain? I've been drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast WITH my breakfast so I get extra calories. I would start by trying something like that... a protein shake or nutritional supplement drink. Here we have Ensure, Boost and other products. I'm definitely not an expert (as evidenced by the fact that I haven't gained weight! LOL), but I'm supportive, if that helps. I did do a search and found this list of weight gaining suggestions: http://www.gov.mb.ca/healthyliving/nutriti
on/pubs/gain_weight.pdf. I hope that works for you. Most of it is stuff you could probably think of on your own, but it may be helpful to have it printed out in front of you. Also, have you been to the doctor? It's important to rule out medical conditions that could be causing the weight loss and fatigue.

F_Elizabeth and SAVBRAD - I definitely feel your pain. I am grateful that I DO have a couple people in my life who understand that it is just as hard for me to gain weight as it is for them to lose, but they have no suggestions that can actually help me. I've spoken to doctors and a nutritionist to find healthy things to eat that are still high calorie enough so that I don't lose and there really isn't much. I've got B-Complex vitamins to take that are supposed to help with my fatigue - I hope that helps me eat more. I stop eating when I'm full, and don't snack on anything if I'm not hungry so the idea of eating a handful of nuts just for the calories doesn't work for me. I've been trying to gain for a month and nothing. I think I've lost a pound. So obviously, I haven't hit on the right thing to do yet. Any and all help is appreciated here, too. Best of luck to you both.

I know how you feel. Everyone would tell me, "why don't you eat some more?" but if I eat beyond satisfied, I can't move, and want to vomit. I don't like that feeling, and nobody understood me. I started taking b-6 vitamins and noticed a significant increase in my appetite in just a couple of days, allowing me to eat those few extra bites that I wasn't able to eat before. I still eat healthy, but now my "capacity level", or whatever you might call it, is higher. Just thought you would like to know, you're not the only one.

Hi, I'm Savanna. I'm not only underweight, I'm very short. At 4'9" and 75 pounds I've spent most of my life dealing with frustration from being so tiny. No issues with wanting to eat, just inherited the "small genes". I weigh more than my grandmother did at age 47, when she passed. I have tried several diets, that never seemed to work, and I wanted to get in touch with other people who have gone through the same issues as I, and maybe have overcame their struggle. I am pretty open, though a little nervous about sharing my issues with strangers. My husband is tall, and on the larger side, so it's kind of hard to talk to him about my issues, because he sees them as insignificant compared to his (he has and is still trying to lose). I just wanted to say hi!

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to gain weight (batteling ED) and not quite sure how to do it in the healthiest way. I'm at 100 lbs and have to get to at least 110 (my first goal). Currently my calorie intake is around 1500-1600 calories a day (not a lot but I used to eat around 1000-1200 plus 1 hour and a half long run per day), and I don't seem to gain much... Right now I'm feeling a little lost...

Just looking for some words of suppor actually emoticon

Hello!! I'm glad that this group is here. I'm new to having a sparkpeople account myself, I helped my husband set up one a long time ago. I've always been thin and it's strange. I can eat a whole box of cookies and not have anything change, which isn't good because I have less motivation to avoid them for my health.
I started at 125lbs a while ago and realized that I was too thin and I'm at 138. I enjoy using Wii Fit, which says my ideal weight is 148. So that is my goal. I was at 145 but I keep losing weight. Also don't have enough money to buy food all the time for my possibly fast metabolism.
It's kind of tricky because I want to gain muscle but can't figure out how much food to eat. Also my husband is obese, which makes it feel weird eating a lot and him trying not to eat as much.
Nice to meet you.

Your consistency and determination means even more than your successes. Let's keep exercising together! Keep up the good work!

Hi! I've joined this team because I'm trying to help a friend's daughter (I'm trying to lose weight, but she desperately needs to gain).

She's 19, and Anorexic. In early September she almost died weighing only 46 lbs. She's in hospital right now and gaining weight there, but she needs help to get out of the psychological rut she's stuck in (she's been hospitalized several times before, and each time she gets out she loses weight again and gets worse.

She lives in the Okanagan area of BC, but is currently hospitalized in Vancouver BC, Canada.

If anyone has any connections or recommendations for psychologists dealing with Anorexia in this area, please, please let me know. Any other information you may have to this regard is also greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi! I am new to SP as well. My friend suggested this because she knows my struggles with being underweight. I get sick very easily but if I eat healthy I don't gain anything. I choose the healthy but I look terribly skinny and I still get sick. I am excited for the motivation this team will give me! Advice would be awesome!

Hello everyone,
Just joined and was encouraged to see this team. I am currently attempting ot eat healthier and gain some weight. I have an eating disorder and have been in recovery for awhile, but have relapsed a bit. I'm hoping to this site will help me reach my goal and to help me maintain it. I hope to hear from other people in the same boat.

Oh my gosh, this team is a MIRACLE. I never expected to find it, and went looking anyway, and shockingly there ARE people in the same boat as me (well, sort of, anyway). Who knew?

I'm Rue, 21, female. I currently weigh 82 pounds and am 5'1". I've been categorized as "dangerously underweight" for my entire life, from birth on upward, as I was premature. I never really put the weight on, and as I got older things actually got worse. I have a metabolic disorder, many food allergies, a rare autoimmune condition that's ruining my mouth so it can be so painful to eat it's actually impossible to have anything but soup, Jell-O and pudding, and severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, which makes eating many kinds of food and eating at all extremely difficult as I've got serious food aversions and texture/taste issues.

But my boyfriend is using SP to lose weight, and encouraged me to join to gain, so ... here I am. Food trackers at least keep me honest, both to myself and to my family.

I am trying to gain weight, so my ticker must be read from right to left.

Hi all! I joined this group, and SP, to help me watch what I'm eating and gain some weight. I have a hard time eating, just don't want to most of the time. If I eat breakfast I'm good for the day. I will eat throughout. But if I don't, which I normally don't want to do, eat breakfast it's rough all day trying to get something down. I'm finding it hard to get enough calories and protein in my day to help me gain the weight. I prefer the taste of lighter, healthier foods. I hope to learn a bunch and gain the weight with SP and you folks! I only need to gain 5-10 lbs. I'm stuck around 110. Hi to you all! emoticon

A friend showed me this site and this group. It has been nice working on this with her on this site even though we have different goals. I'm 24 and am 5'8" weighing 130lbs which is a high for me. I am in the normal BMI range but am not the healthiest I could be and am consistently afraid of being underweight again. I used to get picked on in school because I was skinny and I never liked it. While planning my wedding I lost nearly 20lbs from stress and could see my ribcage, it was rather scary (the weight did come back afterward though). I get so tired of people who are not happy with their weight telling me to go ahead and eat another piece of cake because I could use it. Underweight is a big of a medical issue as being overweight is just does different things to the body. I hope this site will help me get in better shape and feel more confident.

Hi! I've just returned to SP after some time away, generally trying to sort myself out. I have problems with food and eating, and also am an avid exerciser.
Over the past couple of years, after living with a constant calorie deficit, my weight has decreased steadily so that now I am underweight and have various medical problems that come with a low weight and body fat percentage.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this team, as it seems to be just what I need right now.
Here's hoping I can get some support and advice and also hopefully pass on some advice in return!

Please read my ticker backwards as I am trying to gain weight.

Hi,
I am Calalloo and I am 5'5" tall and weigh 105. I saw another lady with the same dimensions. Alot of people say I am fine, and alot of you look perfect to me. Its all about our self perception. I would really like to gain 10 lbs in the next year. I used to be 95lbs 10 years ago. I hope it doesnt take 10 years to gain 10 more, daaayaamm. Anyways, nice to meet all of you, I am aiming to intake 3000 calories per day. I eat alot, more than my husband, and hes thick guy. I dunno why I dont put on weight. I would really love to have more booty and hips and legs, and stronger arms and shoulders. I try to exercise but I dont very often. I still try though. Nice to meet all of you I will share any tips I learn along the way. Thanks for making the team, its nice to not be alone.

It's nice to see that despite the fact that we are a minority there are other people here trying to GAIN weight, not lose it! I am 5'2" and weight round 98lbs at the moment. I have had my weight up to 105 and received a lot of compliments on how good I looked at that weight and would like to regain it. My new issue is that I recently moved from Atlanta, GA (where I drove everywhere) to Boston, MA. I sold my car and now walk or take public transportation which means a lot more exercise. I have joined Sparkpeople mainly for the calorie counter. Hope this works!

LOL!! My Spark friends are going to be SOOO confused by me joining this group!

I joined for my husband's benefit - he's 6'3" tall, and weighs 168 lbs - and he's noticing a lack of stamina and focus. I've got him thinking in terms of lifting some weights and definitely eating more (starting with breakfast - which he never used to eat).

He's just not much of an "eater" nor an "exerciser" - but he's willing to give it a try! I appreciate the tips I've picked up in this group - I'm just afraid that at our ages (he's 61) - it's a "use it or lose it" situation; and he's starting to lack muscle tone. It could be that Jerry, who won the "Biggest Loser At Home Challenge" last night, at the tender age of 64, was a source of inspiration for him??

Hello people! My name is Ebonie. I am basically a novice at fitness. I have exercised in the past but I NEVER was able to stick to a routine due to procrastination and no motivation. Well, now I am ready to make a lifestyle change. I need to exercise to be an healthier person, to tone, and to gain more energy. I currently weigh 150lbs and I will actually like to gain 10lbs. Yes, I said gain! I don't like being skinny or looking to thin. I was skinny before (120 lbs) and don't want to go back to that. I'm am 5 ft. 9 inches tall, so I can stand to add some pounds. Of course I want those pounds to come from muscle. And of course I don't want to bulk up like a body builder. I like having curves! I'm excited and is confident that this will be a positive change in my life!

I'm happy I found this group! I was starting to feel like I was the only one with this goal. Like I said I'm new at this and will appreciate any ideas and suggestions. Thanks!

Hey, I'm Alayna. I started my new diet plan 9 days ago :) I'm 5'8" and weighed 108 when I started. I've been very thing since I was about 20, and got done to 103. For some reason before that point I was at a pretty healthy weight for my height. I just don't want to feel like I'm running on empty.
Soooo yeah, that's why I joined :) There aren't too many of us on here, but I hope some of you are active still.

Hi all! I'm loving this site so far. I'm 27 years old, 5'5" and have never weighed more than 100 lbs. I have been as low as 92 lbs, but typically my weight hangs out between 94-97 lbs. Needless to say, I'd like to gain a bit of weight. I haven't set a clear goal yet. Probably 100 lbs for starters, since I'm around 93/94 right now, and I know 100 is both possible, but not too easy (I'll have to get through my weight plateau to get there).

Since I've started tracking calories here a few weeks ago, I've become aware of just how little I eat, and I'm looking forward to learning what you all do to take in enough calories (and, if necessary, stimulate your appetites.)

Read the ticker backwards - I'm trying to gain!

Goal 1: 100 lbs.

Hi everyone! Like so many of you I'm happy to find a group like this. I was referred to this site from a friend to help me keep track of my calories. I'm 28yrs, 5'8" and weigh 111 lbs. I stress out a lot and don't eat so I'm working on eating more/better and I'm thinking of getting into yoga. I'm really hoping this site will help me. :-)

Hello everyone!

As with many of the people on here, I am trying to gain weight. I used to be at 150 but thanks to developing an autoimmune disorder I fell to 112! emoticon Being that for someone who is 6' tall and only 26 that is not a healthy weight, I need to get it back or some of it anyway.

Since joining Sparks and putting forth a better effort of eating 3 meals a day, I have made it up to 116. Still not where I need or desire to be but it will get there. Any motivating thoughts or encouragement would be gladly accepted.

Hi guys! I'm not really new to this team, but this is the first time I've actually been active on it. I started spark people back in September, but I let it go within a week. Now I'm back and I'm hoping to stay motivated.
My two main goals are to gain weight and become more flexible.
I currently way 92 pounds and I am 5'3. I used to really be self-conscious about my weight. I'm not so much anymore, but I'm doing weight training right now, and I'd love to gain muscle and a little more fat just to feel stronger and to look better. I'm an actress, and I think I would be more confident in myself if I could just weigh a little more.
Oh, and I eat all the time. My metabolism is RIDICULOUSLY fast. I get it from my mother. She is my height and she weighed 110 pounds when she was nine months pregnant with me. lalala
As far as flexibility goes, I am on the opposite end of the spectrum. I never stretch, and that's another important thing for an actress and a dancer. I'm mostly using this website for motivation as far as stretching goes. I forget or don't take the time in the day to stretch my muscles. And it doesn't help that I can't stand how it feels to stretch.

Anyways, that's my account! Feel free to message me or anything. I like making friends. =)

Hi all. As with everyone else, I am so happy to have run across a group of people who have the same gripes that I have, "Need to Gain Weight". I am 32 and I have always been tiny in frame. However, with using some of the tools & suggestions from some of you all, I can say that I have seen some positive changes with my weight going up. My goal, with my height of 5'2, was 125 lbs. And from adding those foods that were healthy, yet high in calories, to my diet I have finally made it to my goal weight. But my biggest challenge, now, is going to be to maintain the weight. But as for now I am just satisfied with having the weight on.

Hi Ren. My sister is excellent motivation too! I spent most of my christmas break with her working out almost everyday. Now that I am back home, I have not been as dedicated :(, but hopefully we can all motivate each other.

I am really glad to see so many females on the board, I thought for sure I was the only one in the world wanting to gain.

JNLitton~ You sound sooo much like me when I was back in school. Its hard to take time for yourself when you have a million other pressures, but atleast you are studying hard! I think we all just need baby steps.. like promising yourself that you will make time to grab something (anything) for breakfast everyday for a week/month/whatever.

Hey everyone! I'm so glad to find a group like this. I'm a 20 yr old college student 5'3" and 100 lbs. I lost about 15 lbs last year and am slowly trying to gain that back. It's so hard with a small budget though. I also don't always have the time to eat. I'm lucky if I actually get breakfast before class. I'm sleep deprived, slowly starving myself by never leaving the library, stressed, and poor. Help! I miss my curves!

I think you have the right idea Miss Mars! Protein shakes are a hassle and obsessing is never healthy! Exercise is the hardest thing for me to get myself into. I will do it consistently for a few weeks and then stop because I am not seeing results quickly enough. I am going to be leaving to visit my sis in Virginia tomorrow and she is prepping for a 10k, so at least I'll have her motivation while I am there!

Hi everyone! I am really excited to find a group dedicated to the people who actually want to gain weight.

I am 5'3" and currently weigh b/t 104-107, I think my ideal weight would be about 115. I have been thin for the majority of my life, but I have weighed as much as 112 before and was really comfortable with my body at that weight.

I hate obsessing about food, eating to the point of nausea, and drinking protein shakes (which always tear up my stomach after a few weeks), so I wanna concentrate on just eating well and exercising on a consistant basis. I always find that when I am exercising and just feeling good about myself and life in general gaining weight is a little easier.

Just want to wish everyone luck with their goals!

Hi, I'm Karla, 37, married with an energetic 3 year old. I'm 5'2", 85 lbs. I've always been right around 100 lbs. until I got pregnant. I gained 40 lbs. Then lost 50 once I had my son and started nursing him. A year later I stopped nursing and thought that my weight would go back to my normal 100 but I had a really hard time gaining. I learned recently that I have some food allergies/intolerances and have had some major diet changes in the last 6 months and as a result have lost more weight. I had been a vegetarian for 10 years and relied on LOTS of soy and dairy. Come to find out since giving birth that the soy really knocked my hormones out of whack. And I have to seriously limit my dairy intake. So, no more soy, I'm eating chicken again and trying to eat more beans for protein. I'm struggling to eat enough calories and protein. This site is terrific for tracking what I eat and really seeing where the calories are. I've been here only a week so I'm just getting used to the site and the tools here. I'm always looking for motivation and glad to provide it for anyone who needs it!

I'm trying to gain weight so read my ticker backwards.

Hi, my name is Veronica, I am 5'4 and only weigh 112. I got to my highest during the school semester which was 118, by eating fast food twice a day. However, with my fast metabolism and busy school schedule I seem to lose it. For years, I have been an overeater just to get fat and to avoid cruel skinny jokes. I have no idea how to work this website, or how to change my weight goals to get diets customized to gain weight.

Wow, am I excited to find this site and this group!!! My roommate introduced me to the site. She has successfully used it to lose weight, and her success motivated me to join, just hoping for some help in tracking calories. I was very excited to find that I could change my nutrition goals to make my calorie goal more than the site recommended for maintaining my weight. I'm 26 years old, 5'8.5" and normally weigh around 110, give or take a couple pounds. This is the weight my body keeps going back to if I don't pay much attention to how much I'm eating. I'd like to gain at least 10 pounds, though, and see what it feels like. I'd like to feel healthier, sexier, curvier, and more energetic. I also need to increase the amount of water I drink each day. It's hard for me to focus on my calorie intake. I'm currently in graduate school and the stress and intensity really distracts me from eating properly. I probably should exercise more, too. Last year when I was just working, I went to the gym 2-3 times a week for strength training. The past few months that has been pushed aside and I'm just playing racquetball once a week. I guess I do get some exercise cleaning house and walking to the lab every once in awhile. Anyway, I love hearing the stories of all the rest of you who want to gain weight. Usually, I just hear how lucky I'm am to be so skinny and have such a fast metabolism. OR I have to hear people talking badly about skinny people because they don't feel good about they way they look. Either one is kinda discouraging because I don't feel like anyone understands. I'd like to put on a bikini and not feel like a bony skeleton....

Hi! I'm a 28 year old mother of 3. I have always been skinny. But after each child I had, I turn out to be less then what I started off with. I am 5'2" and 103.5 lbs. My goal is to be at least 110 lbs by my birthday in August. I have a twin sister who joined Sparkpeople to lose weight. She suggested that I join so I can achieve my goal of gaining weight and being healthier.

hey i dont think the site lets you put a goal weight higher than your actual weight, i guess they havent modified it for us who want to gain weight. so just put your goal weight the same as your actual weight and whatever goal it gives you add 500 thats how you gain.
gl!

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

Hi all!
My name is Tara and I am really happy to have found a bunch of people sharing the same goals as me. I am 20 yrs old, weigh 120 pounds n 5'9". I want to gain atleast another 15-20 pounds to be n look more healthy. I ve been regularly exercising(strength training)for the past 3 mths or so. I dont really need to do much cardio as walk morning n eve for about 10 minutes each. I have a moderately active lifestyle. I am trying to slowly tweak my diet with more calories n gotta start taking protein shakes soon. I started out with 114 pounds n currently 120. I hope that, with the love and support of u all, I can reach my goal of 135 pounds soon.

I'm 29 years old, 5'7", 91 lbs.I'm not anorexic, I just look like it. I quit smoking on valentines day, hoping that would help with my weight problem, but I did'nt even gain a pound. Hoping to find something that will work in this group?

Hi everyone! I am ecstatic that I finally found people I have this in common with. Pretty much everyone I associate with has the opposite problem. I am 32 years old and finally after all these years am up to 119. My goul is to be somewhere between 125-130 by the end of the summer. I like to think that with some motivation, I can achieve my goal. Step one however is to quit smoking. If I can do that, I am hopeful about the rest..

Hi! I'm Adam, and I just found out about sparkpeople. An introduction:

I'm 22, 6'1", and at last check, at or around 135lbs. So obviously I don't weigh enough. I'm looking to gain some muscle mass, mostly for aesthetic reasons, but also because I do some lifting and moving at my job, and right now I have to pass a lot of it on to my employees.
My problem is pretty simple; I don't eat well enough and I don't exercise enough. I just got out on my own (after college) and I figure now is as good a time as any to get the ball rolling. And this place looks like it'll help.

Hi, my name is Wes. I'm 22 (almost 23), 5'6" and 107 lbs. I'm married and my wife has been using sparkpeople to lose weight. It worked really well for her up until the wedding. Afterwards adjusting to our new life together as well as moving into a new place caused her to get too comfortable and she stopped logging in. Now she's back on (and doing well) and at her suggestion I've joined up to gain weight.

I've always been very thin and previous efforts (by my wife and mother) to "fatten me up" have been unsuccesful. I think I peaked at 120 a couple years ago.

My main problem is I don't have healthy eating habits (not eating frequently enough as well as the wrong things) and I don't excercise enough. I'd like to start working out with my wife to try and increase muscle as well as get into a better eating schedule. Hopefully this will help me stay motivated to do what I need to do.

hello everyone!

i'm becky. i'm 24 (about to turn 25), and weigh about 114 lbs. back in early 2005, i was averaging about 125-130 lbs. got really sick, and dropped to around 98 lbs. since then i've gotten married and my husband's been helping me add weight. at this point though, it seems like i'm backtracking and losing weight again. i've tried so many different things: eating certain foods, eating more in general.. you name it i think i've done it. i even eat more then my husband (who's trying to lose weight.. lol), but he ends up gaining weight, while i lose it.

hopefully i can stick to posting here and tracking any habits. i know i'll need the help! emoticon

I have a spoiled kitty-child.

Good luck on gaining the 7 pounds back! It's all about finding the healthy medium. Not too fat, not too skinny. At 98 pounds, I'm not surprised it's kicking you into early menopause. We need to stick together and fight the "skinny is beautiful" image the size 3 movie stars put out.

I understand! Hang in there, it will get better. Change is hard, not easy!

As for me, I want/need to gain about 7lbs atleast. I started this journey on Spark weighing in at over 145lbs. I am 5'3 as well. My weight back in college was 98lbs. Normally, just athletic and fit. Def ate, did not have an eating problem.

Well so In the past 10months I have been able to get back to that weight of 98lbs! I have been super healthy and exercising, eating the right amount of calories and maintaining.

Well, I was starting to feel too skinny, I want some curve and definition! So decided to gain back a few lbs in muscle mass.

Well this weekend I went to the dr and she told me I was in premenopause due to the weight, I need more fat on my body to produce estrogen. I was a bit upset. Upset at the fact there is something wrong with me, upset at the fact that someone is telling me Im unhealthy.... I have tried so hard to be healthy! I workout and run 2 times a week, so I knwo I am not overdoing it! I eat 1500-2000 calories. Not a low range by any means. I am not losing more weight. I get in my vitamins and nutrients.... so yeah a bit hard to take that in. The dr was praising me for my muscle tone and health, and then saw 102, and freaked. Its a number, doesnot have everything to do with health. Body comp and nutrition do too...ok so anyways! I am willing to try to gain to 105 to see if my estrogen levels come back! So this is my new journey, who would have thought 10months ago I would want to GAIN weight!!!!

Thanks to all!

I'm so happy I found you guys, if I wasn't at work I would cry. My name is RJ and I'm 24 years old. I'm 5'3", 105lbs. Unfortunately, I've *lost* about 30 lbs over the last year and a half, and I am still losing. I'd like to gain back 15 lbs. It's so fustrating because I have alot going on in my life (processing a divorce, about to lose my job, moving from the UK to Las Vegas, Nevada, parenting a 3 year old by myself), and the stress of it all is making me not eat (I'd be lucky if I pull in 800-1000 caleries a day), so I'm losing more weight, increased fatigue, decreased motivation. Before you ask, yes, I have been diagnosed with depression, so I'm not in a deluded state thinking I'm just in a bad spot.

Looking at my body makes me want to puke, because I can see I'm so skinny. It's embarassing and I just want to gain weight so I can look good again. I want to look sexy for my boyfriend, and not feel ashamed to be naked in front of him. I want to actually be able to enjoy food and a prepared meal. Oh god, I just want to enjoy life again.

this is going to sound really odd but i was actually thinking about going to the local fitness center so i can learn the right workout (with all the access to all the equipment). the only thing i can do is the home exercises with no equipment or walking. my 2 year old loves to be outside so walking, or putting him in the stroller, isn't a problem but i don't feel like it does any good.

i did buy some kind of protein drink but i have to tell you, it's awful. my husband can eat a cow and he gains weight but i can eat 2 and gain nothing. i live on sugar, carbs, and coffee.

i wish i could give more advice but i'm here if you want someone to talk to.

Hi I am 25, 5'6" and weigh 115lbs. I also was at my best weight while pregnant. I have an extremely fast metabolism, and find it very hard to gain weight. I love working out but with a 2 year old do not have the time (suggestions?). I would like to gain 10 pounds hopefully by the summer, and just be overall healthier and more energetic.

Hello. I am desperately trying to gain some weight. I'm about 5 foot 9 and only 130 pounds. I have always been underweight -- not because I don't eat though -- and even though everyone commented on my "skinny as a rail" body, deep down I've always been really self consious about it. It really sadens me to know that the only time I was at a healthy weight was when I was 9 months pregnant. I hope I can find some support here.

Right now, I'm definitely working on building muscle. (You may have seen on my SparkPage that I'd lost about 10 pounds due to some personal stresses in my life.)

I find that it's really important to balance out your carbs with protein. (I'm a vegetarian, so I get most of my protein from cottage cheese, and soy products.) Protein will help you build back some of the muscle you've lost, and will keep your insulin level so you're not constantly hungry.

Also, I've recently started taking yoga. It's great to calm you, work on balance, and teaches you to breathe.

I also recommend doing some strength excercises to work on building muscle. You'll find tons of different excercises under "My Tools" in the "My Fitness" category. I've been doing lots of crunches, pushups, etc. It may be challenging, but it'll be worth it. You probably don't need to be doing a lot of cardio right now, but light housework will be ok. =)

I've gained only about 1 1/2 pounds since I've been working at this the past few weeks, but, I'm feeling GREAT & I know I'm doing this the right way.

Play around on the SP site & you'll find all kinds of helpful articles on nutrition and stuff. (I have a few on my page that you may find interesting.)

Hope this helps!
Kae Beth

Hi Kae,
Thanks so much for your reply,
Trying to beat a metabolism is very hard to do. yesterday I consumed 3540 calories, 500 of those were from my meal shakes which are meant to be used a replacement, which i am not willing to do. So I drink them as a drink with my meal. I did notice that my caloric intake is mostly from carbs, which I am hoping helps my battle.

I was hoping to not purchase the powders for bulking, but I am pretty sure I will need to do so now. I am not sure if this will harm a person though, when consuming that much calories, while not working out at the moment? I am afraid that I will burn more than I am taking in( as I found this out the other day). So, have started forcing myself to relax, I will need to let the housework go for now ;, and until I see some gain, I will let my exercise go to avoid burning off what I have eaten etc... but I am also aware that muslce weighs more than fat ;S

How long until you noticed a difference with bulking up?

Thanks again,
Manderelly

Hi! Welcome to the team! Glad you're here!

I have gone into the nutrition category & upped/ edited my daily caloric intake by about 500 calories. To lose a pound you have to burn 3,500 calories, so I figure to GAIN a pound I'll need to NOT burn 3,500 calories!

There's a great article (I believe on the right side of our team page at the bottom) that gives several ideas to boost your caloric/nutrition intake without downing lots of protein shakes & stuff.

I'm trying to add good fats (almonds, avacado, olive oil) to my diet & eat more often. I'm also working out, so I'm building muscle.

Anyway, I hope some of this information helps! Feel free to Spark Mail me any time!

Grace & Peace,
Kae Beth

Hello, Nice to find a group that is for people like me ;)

I am a mother of 3, and weight 20 lbs less after having them ;(. I have been desperatly trying to gain weight for some time now.

before my children I was active with sports and dance. Now it seems I don't have enough time, the house is my activity ;) so I realize some of my weight loss is due to loss of muscle mass. Surely that can 't be all it was! While I have tried many things, I suffer from a very high metabolism as well, which makes gaining hard to do.

I am not interested in workign out for hours a day, or chugging protein shakes etc...I simply would love to do this just by eating certain foods and maintaining regular exercise around the house (ie. stott pilates)....

really hoping I can acheive my goal, also would love to support others who may be experiencing the same thing!

ps....I am wondering if the tools, ie...food tracker, are giving me appropriate meal selections...as it has me at a negative weight loss. Very confused!!

Thank you
Manderelly
