Hello everyone. :). I'm a convert to Catholicism. I came into the church in 2007, Easter, of course. :D. I grew up in a Baptist family, sort of. My parents were not religious in any way, but my aunt was Baptist, and many of my friends were as well. My mom put me into Sunday School and when I was old enough, about 8, I started walking to 30 minutes to get there when my parents weren't driving me. I've always had a thirst for the faith, and was always fascinated by Catholicism. When my husband and I first atarted talking, it was over our faith. He is a cradle Catholic, and I was intrigued. He started talking to me about it. Soon after that, I began attending a Catholic church nearby. As soon as he moved to Canada (he's American) I went into the RCIA program with him as my sponsor. We were married in June of 2007. I have been enjoying every moment of learning about the faith and growing in my faith. :D. It has been an amazing experience!

I am a cradle Catholic!!! Born on March 27, baptized on April 26! I never left the church, even when my parents didn't go regularly when I was in high school, I would go by myself, walk in, and sit with my grandpa. I attended CCD my entire school career. Even my senior year after confirmation, we had to pledge 1 year of community service. My best friends were and still are my CCD friends. We not only attended classes together but we hung out together. Our parish had dances, pizza parties, etc. It was a great time! We raised our 3 kids in the church. 2 of them are practicing Catholics. Please pray for our daughter that has turned away. It breaks my heart!!!

Thanks for the overview, CRYSTALLULLABY. You'd have to scroll back a bunch of pages to figure me out, so at the risk of being redundant, I'll re-state; Cradle Catholic here, fell away from the church in my late teen rebellious era, but back with a passion. Bad marriage wasn't all bad as it gave me DD who was raised Catholic and, eventually, gave me those beautiful grandchildren I brag about regularly. Fast forward through divorce from ExH and Catholic Church annulment. Married again, this time the man of my dreams, in the church; current DH answered his call to be professed in the Secular Franciscan Order, DD married a loving guy (our Son-In-Love) who converted to Catholicism. His transformation Spiritually impacted all of us, as we all went through RCIA along with him here at home and it served as a study and review learning process for all of us (including the grandchildren). God is GREAT!

WELCOME!

CRYSTAL, I am so glad you wrote out your story! I went on a retreat, maybe 30 years ago, where we did just that... I have written in a journal since I was 7 years old. Majority of the pages are burned long ago, but I carry forward parts from each year. We need to know where we have come from to help us see where we are headed! Our God is so good! I have never been able to use the excuse I didn't have a way to see God at work in my life... There are prayer pages for YEARS that clearly show how He IS in charge of my life and has a plan, and HAS NEVER ABANDONED me! (I am always the one who moves...) He just keeps bringing me back into the fold...LOL! Praised be Jesus!
My Blessed Mother has had me under her mantle since the day I was born...(December 8). She is very persistent! And I love her for it!
May God grant you exceedingly great joy in your journey of growing closer to Him!

Reading all of these I am struck by how everyone's story has a piece of everyone else's story. So many people said what I wanted to say that I'm going to tell my story through their worlds.

SHAPNUP I feel like I wasn't catechized properly, although I couldn't have articulated that then. I left the church and began seeking God on my own.

RESAMARIE001 I have visited many other churches to respect the love of God and Jesus Christ in other denominations. I enjoy speaking with people of other faiths because we have the same and one and only God. When I was a child I wanted to become a nun. I always felt so close to God.

IRISHGRAMS1 I am a cradle Catholic that came back to the church through my husband who was not Catholic at the time!

(And still isn't but has agreed since I am going back and it is important that he will go out Catholic church and should kids ever come along they will be Catholic.)

SHAPNUP The very next Sunday, I went to mass clean and received the Holy Eucharist and I've never looked back.

(I remember doing my first confession in 17 years and the burden that fell off as I found I could actually come back and not only that, finally take Holy Eucharist. I was sobbing as I walked to receive, cried on the way back and kneeling in the pew. To come home...)

EMILYD1952 I will NEVER do anything to jeopardize my faith again.

(Now that I'm back I never want to leave. I want to go to Mass every day. One day I will.)

AOHARA75 I feel like I didn't get properly catechized (sp?) and am trying to make up for it but am not quite sure where to start.

(I'm working on this too. Getting confirmed will help. I'm jumping in and just trying to find my way.)

This sums it up so well, thank you Catholiccorgi:

CATHOLICCORGI You can take the girl out of the Church, but not the Church out of the girl...

(Note: I did write my story - it's 9 pages! Thank you for these posts and I thank God for finding this team at the right time. I felt it important to understand how God has worked throughout my life to lead me home before I get confirmed. I want to make sure I listen to the Holy Spirit from here on out!)

DORINDAC, I went to parochial school, and was in 7:30am Mass on Sundays, and Presbyterian SS and service, too, on Sundays after Mass. In the 50's and 60's I was considered an unusual child because of it. I did leave the Church for several years(I was married in the Methodist Church) but Our Lady brought me back Home. I am very grateful my parents offered me a choice... but I am also VERY grateful God had even different plans for me! LOL!
He IS in charge! I think the most important thing is knowing Jesus personally and developing a real relationship with Him.
I'm praying for my DH's conversion...

I'm a convert. The first time I stepped into a Catholic Church was when I was 15 years old and I went to Mass with a friend from school. I loved it! I had never felt more @ home in a church. So, I went through RICA and was baptized. When I graduated from high school I went to a Catholic College. Interestingly, my brother and sister ended up going to Mass with me regularly and converted as well. They both ended up in Catholic school, and my sister went to the same Catholic college I did. Quite a feat for kds who have several uncles that are Protestant ministers! My parents have always been very open people when it came to our personal choices about religion--they wanted us in the church where we felt we belonged!

Interestingly, my husband is Methodist. We are trying to raise our son in a very similar situation--we didn't have him Christened, and we attend both Mass and a Protestant service; we want him to chose the best church for him. We know people that think is this really strange, but it has been wonderful for us; our son quite literally gets the best of both groups, and my husband and I have had a great time discussing the differences and similarities between church teachings!

Both?

I was baptized as a baby in the Catholic Church but my family left the Church when I was about 5. Last year my husband and I started attending Mass again, soon we were married in the Church and both Confirmed last Easter. I'm so thankful for our re-version.

Um, I truly am cradle Catholic, as I was christened at 2 months old, but neither of my parents were Catholic... guess God had plans for me that were even beyond them...
I've been thinking on looking into just how it was that I was I DID get to be Catholic. In 1956, I would figure there had to be some dispensation that allowed me to become Catholic when my parents were not. I am not even sure if the priest who christened me is still alive... the church is still there in Biloxi, so I may see if they have anything about it there.
My parents honored their commitment. I was in Mass every Sunday and went to parochial school through 12th grade... Hmmm....

Cradle Catholic! Catholic educated right through college. I even taught in Catholic school at the beginning of my career. I was lukewarm over the the years but rekindled my faith in the the 90's. My husband converted after 20 years of marriage and then was ordained a deacon in 2004. We celebrated 33 years of marriage last November. I can't imagine our life without our Catholic faith. It sustains me everyday.

Abundant Blessings, Dee

Warm welcome, JZITKOVIC! So glad you found us here. Our church is very clear on what sin is. They are also very clear on "Love the sinner, hate the sin". You're not alone in your struggle to accept some content that you find conflict with based on worldly influences, and CJ's advice, IMHO, is awesome, in it's most biblical sense.

CJ......Well put, my dear.

Welcome, JZITKOVIC!

It's great to read of someone who has stayed with the Church since childhood!

There are some tough teachings within the Church. She does not apologize for this. Like the mother she is, she often knows what is better for us than we do ourselves. As a mother, you probably understand that very much!

I would suggest a good book about those topics, to understand the reasons behind the Church's teachings. I, too, used to struggle with some of those subjects. I read, I prayed, I opened myself up to the teachings. Once my own arrogance fell away (not saying that is what is happening with you, just what I experienced), I saw the beauty and the Truth behind the teachings.

I would recommend anything by Christopher West on the subject. Jason Evert (not sure if there are 2 "t's" at the end of his name) also explains things well at a teen level. My daughter likes his stuff (she is 17).

Again, praying for understanding about the teachings are a tremendous help, openness to see the reasons behind them, and frequent reception of the sacraments, especially Confession and the Eucharist can all help.

All the best to you and your husband!
And remember, sometimes obedience comes before understanding.

I am a cradle Catholic. Never left the church. My son goes to a Catholic school and I feel that the church has great traditions (Rosary, devotion to Mary and saints, etc) that have made me a better person. I struggle with some of the teachings regarding homosexuality, abortion, birth control, celibacy for preists, etc. While I may agree philosophically with the basic teaching, I do not like the way some choose to teach and add their personal opinions and judgments. I feel it should be taught with more understanding, love and patience. I feel that has driven many away and the church needs to do more to be inclusive for all walks of life and be more open about the church's mistakes. (ie. abuses by priests) My son is in 1st grade and my daughter is 4 and I know as they get older, this will be a bigger struggle. I would welcome any suggestions for how me and my husband can deal with this.

I'm a cradle Catholic. I have to admit that I didn't know much about my own faith until I started teaching religion twelve years ago.

I am a cradle Catholic. If people ask, I tell them I am a born again Catholic. Same as others. Attended Catholic grade school drifted away, not that far thankfully, came back with a fire storm. God Bless our religious congregations for plucking us drifters back and giving us formation we should have gotten at our parishes. emoticon

Hello and welcome to all of you coming back or into the Church!
I am a convert. I was raised Lutheran Missouri Synod which I have found to be very close to Catholicism.in many ways. I feel that all they are missing is the Consecration and therefore, the Eucharist. The pastor still faces the alter, back to the people...they kneel at the communion rail, same prayers, etc.
So, I married a faithful Catholic after going to Mass with him thru our college years and early marriage. I agreed to have our kids raised Catholic and the only thi ng I was holding back on was the status of Mary. The deacon at our church helped me to understand 'where' she stands(she is not worshipped, but is a good dear mother to ask for help)and I was 'in like Flyn"!! So, just before our 3 rd baby was born,I came into the Catholic Church. I can't imagine NOT being here.

Hi, I am Adrienne and I would be considered a "cradle Catholic." I went through 12 years of Catholic education, and kind of drifted away a little in college. I always stayed with Catholicism; however I was not going to church or praying on a regular basis. When my husband and I moved to Iowa, I found a church community that I loved, but did not get really involved until after my stroke in 2009. A personal experience in SICU really helped solidify my faith and bring me back into the church more than I was.

My long term goal is to lose roughly 110 pounds.

Every little bit helps.

Went through Catholic high school as a Methodist, and by Junior year of college I entered the RCIA program and the rest is, well, history.
