Hi,
My name is Debbie and I'm happy to be part of this group. I have just started tracking my food and exercise again with sparkpeople. I'm loving all the information available and the wonderful people on this site. I have gained about 10 pounds since starting menopause and it is soooo hard to lose. I really want to get it off.
God bless all of you and success to us all.

HI I'm Kristine. I have been a Sparkpeople member off an on for years. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. It has gotten out of control as I have put myself on the backburner in recent years. My husband and I have two daughters Maria Faustina (age 7), and Grace Therese (age 3.5). I am a SAHM/home schooling mom, and I also teach a hybrid (half online half in person) physics class at local community college. (Oh yeah, and my husband and I are a Couple to Couple League NFP teaching couple as well.)

I love our faith and know that I need to focus on turning to God instead of to food to release stress, and find comfort especially after long and trying days. I have had some success in the past with The Light Way, and eating "Core" with weight watchers. But with my current health issues I really need to work on exercise and less fast food/comfort food/carbs - what I really need is accountability and encouragement.

I hope to become more involved with this group.

God Bless you all!

Hello!

My name is Deb. I am living in Montana after being a Southern military gypsy for 50 years with my Hunky-Hubby & our last child of our brood of 4, the Sassy Teen who will graduated HS next May. We have 4 grand children who are, of course, the most intelligent, witty, charming, & beautiful children on the face of God's green earth.

I Was raised as a roaming Prot. -- was a very bad Southern Baptist and "Came Home" Christmas 1989 in Turkey, where I was Baptized & Confirmed. Becoming Catholic was the best gift I have ever received.

I have MS (dx Jan 2001) and have severely limited mobility, basically the R side of my body ignores my requests to do anything. Montana is a blessing for me as the weather cooperates with me 80% of the time, (not too hot & fairly mild winters).

I first gained weight during my first pregnancy (1984), and was able to keep a fairly stable, yet chubby, 170# until MS took away my normal activities and I became a "Mary" instead of a "Martha". My weight has steadily crept up and now I am trying to lug these 250+ pounds around basically on my arms. It isn't working well.

I "joined" SparkPeople first back in 2007(?) -- the Physical "Terrorist" signed me up, and I quickly dismissed it.

Well, I am at a point now I am taking charge. ( emoticon )

This is my Day 2 and I am looking forward to being stronger & leaner!

Hi everyone! My name is Lauralyn, and I'm back on SparkPeople after a rather long hiatus, ready to battle my gluttonous tendencies and overcome them. I'm 26, about to graduate college, and then figure out what it is I'm supposed to do with my life. :) My main health goals are to eat clean and whole foods, exercise regularly, and get down to a healthy weight. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and working toward our goals together! God bless!

Welcome, CREATIVEHEART!

I remember watching a home video of our family at the beach. I thought to myself, "Who is that woman with the big bottom?" It was me, of course!

But, with God's help, I am now down over 60 lbs!

Amanda,

I will say some prayers for your entry into our Church family. Holy Saturday Mass is the most beautiful of services in our church. I am a cantor at our church and I love singing at that Mass. It is also the longest Mass you will attend! Welcome to our Church family and to our little Spark group!!

I am New to Sparkspeople about three months. About six months I was looking at myself on camera footage and I was like who is that ( That is not me) I am a 100 pounds overweight.I dont want anyone to think I am Vain becuse my real goal is to be healthier. I am just tired of being unhealthy and I want a new start for my life. I have Severly premature RA. My highschool track teacher wanted me to look at getting my knees done when they found it. I want to be healthy and not feel so much pain and fatigue all the time. I started cutting things out that were unhealthy and then joined this place.

I am married to my highschool/ college sweetheart since I was nineteen. I had just graduated from highschool he was in his second yr at college. I have no regrets! Well I wish i hd finished college but that I can still do. I have three daughters Bethany 21almost 22 ( married and expecting our first Grandchildren...... Twins please pray for her she has had two misscarriages since she married : ( ) I have Laura who is 20 and studing to be a pharmacist and Juliete who is 17 and a gymnist/ ballerina. I love to say that about her because she was born to do those things. I always wanted to but my parents could not afford it.So I did band and track and cross country. We have ..... Three dogs a cat and I work with small children and help my husband with his various jobs and intrests.
This is me ..... I am not so hot with the computer or there would be a picture sorry.

Welcome to the Team! I am very excited for you. I remember my own profession of Faith and Communion, and Confirmation years and years ago now (I was already a baptized Christian, so didn't get baptized again).

That was very loving of your husband not to pressure you. He is very wise! And, one cannot become Catholic simply because someone else wants them to. Our free will has to freely choose that path.

Hello everyone! I decided to go ahead and join this team because I am currently in the process of becoming Catholic through RCIA. My husband was born Catholic and we have been married for almost 2 years. We were married in his church but at the time I didn't feel ready to convert because there was so much going on in my life. My husband was very respectful and promised not to pressure me to join unless I decided to. I have been going to mass every Sunday with him except for the weekends I had to work and last fall decided that I was ready to convert. The classes with our priest have been very enlightening and I feel like the entire congregation are very supportive and welcoming. During Easter vigil I will be baptized, be confirmed and receive my first communion and I'm really excited!

Our lives can change with every breath we take.

Hi all! My name is Margo. I converted from Southern Baptist to Catholic in 1986. I married a cradle catholic in 1988. I have been teaching third grade in a catholic school for the last 10 years. I am really trying to be committed to my health. I have a habit of giving up so I am recommitting to a healthier lifestyle. God bless!

We consume our tomorrows fretting about our yesterdays.

Yep, saying we have 7 kids gets quite the reaction sometimes! But in some Catholic circles, we're average! One of my friends is on 11!

Thank you for the welcome!

emoticon on the 7 children! I don't get to hear that very often. My good friend has 8, and another friend has 7. Whenever I mention that fact to others, they give me a weird look. Actually, my teeny family of 3 gets raised eyebrows in some circles. Apparently, that's a "large family". *giggle*

Hello! I joined about 9 months ago, but am finally read to forge ahead! I'm a Catholic homeschooling mom of 7 amazing kids. Hubby is currently unemployed and attending school. I am working part-time. Unemployment will run out before he's done with schooling, so prayers are appreciated for us to make it through! I need to take control of my health and say good-bye to this "second person" I'm carrying around. 2014 is my year!

Hello, I have been with spark for almost three years this March, I found this group and wanted to join. I was baptized Catholic and confirmed, married also in the Catholic church 23 years ago.
I finished homeschooling my only child, with Seton Catholic Homeschooling, he is in the Junior college now, his third semester,
I like to pray, usually the rosary and divine mercy at home, I do attend the Traditional Latin Mass too. Looking forward to losing at least 10 more lbs. by March 26th 2014....I hope. emoticon

Bene, I have to LOL! I live in North Carolina, and until the last 20 years or so, we Catholics were considered heathens, I believe! But now, we have been lovingly "infiltrated" by Northerners, and St. Matthews in Charlotte is one of the largest and fastest growing Churches in the USA. My parish is in SC, and on the small side, which I like. The more we educate people, the better they understand. I'm glad Pope Francis is reaching so many people who would normally not be reached...
DBEAU57, neither of my parents were Catholic, but they had me baptized Catholic because my mother was High Episcopalian and there were no High churches here when she moved from Mississippi to NC in 1954. They raised me Catholic, but neither converted. Sort of strange, but I just figure God and Our lady had plans beyond what my folks did...

When will you be ordained to the Diaconate?

Sorry to hear that you your diocese recently lost its bishop. I pray:

God, Eternal, Shepherd, you tend your Church in many ways, and rule us with love. Bless the Diocese of Lexington with a new shepherd to watch over your flock. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Hello all

I have been a SparkPeople Member for 3 years now and have lost about 80 lbs. I am continuing since I still need to lose another 40 lbs.
I am a cradle catholic, always been faithful (at least attended Mass every week) and have learned more about my faith in my studies to become a Permanent Deacon. These studies have illuminated that many have said what Pope Francis is now saying, but that his direction is leading us into a more complex understanding of how we treat others. Not so black and white any more.

I live in Lexington KY and we just lost our great Bishop to Harrisburg PA, but I'm sure the Holy Spirit will provide the Diocese of Lexington with the shepherd we need.

Have not thought of looking for Catholics on SparkPeople, but when I searched, this site came up. Glad to see it is here.

Everyone have a blessed day..

Larry

I am a Catholic in the Bible belt, where we often get lonely! I am a retired math teacher (retired in 2000) but now I work in the church office, where I am the secretary & bookkeeper. Our priest, Fr. Joseph, is from India and is a Carmelite of Mary Immaculate. I like working with him very much! I also play the organ & piano in church!!! Glad to find this team!!!!

Hello New Team! I've been on SparkPeople since 9-16-13. Having just come from mass and logging on to put in my breakfast calories, I decided to put "Catholic Teams" in the search box to see if there were any teams just for us. And lo and behold - I found this one! I am a convert, at age 12 after my mom married a Catholic and converted. I married a Catholic, but he is non-practicing and has been since he was 13. Our 3 kids were raised Catholic, but only 1 of them still is. I attend mass with her and my 3 grandsons, who will make their first confession and first holy communion in March. My son was Catholic until he married a Presbyterian. My other daughter was Catholic until she married an Episcopalian.

I am so happy to have found this team! emoticon

B45, my DH and I are in RCIA, too. I was raised Catholic, but left the Church for many years. My DH wanted to learn why I came Home... so, we go together. I wish every Catholic who is my age or older would at least sit in on a few RCIA classes... I am learning things that the Church teaches now(and really did all along) that I was not taught in parochial school in the 60's and 70's. Much of what I was taught was more opinion than fact. I understand why so many people leave(I did!) and then return when they find out what the Truth about the Church is... Lots of good came from Vatican ll, but a lot of weirdness also was rampant. Now there is "balance" returning!

Sometimes I think I will take RCIA, just because. Then I laugh and think to myself, "when?". Right now, I am working full time, and am working one volunteer position which is part time, and then training for another, which is also part time. I also have three teenagers/young adults who all live at home and are all at school and working part time, and a husband who works ridiculous hours (12 hours a day at least 5 days a week, sometimes 6).

*phew* emoticon

I hope you enjoy the upcoming week's topic.

That is so exciting that you are soon-to-be Catholics! Congratulations!

I have enjoyed reading a little about you and your husband.

The Hail Mary is a single prayer, you're right. The Rosary is a series of 50 (well, 53 really) Hail Marys plus 6 Our Fathers (The Lord's Prayer) and meditation on scenes/events in our Saviour's life.

We put both on the team goals as some people are just starting out, and a Rosary is too much for them, so we had some smaller goals so there may be something for everyone.

Hi, all--
my DH and I are in Journey of Faith classes to become Catholics at Easter Vigil. We are excited and covet your prayers.

I am an RN, nurse educator and pediatric nurse. I love to read, craft, garden and travel to name the top four. I am in my (very) late 50s. Live in the Heartland of America in the great state of Oklahoma.

I had less than 20 pounds to lose from 150 at the beginning of last year, but my doctor is happy at 140--so I've decided it's okay also. Gained some weight over Christmas, due to 7-day Caribbean cruise.

Just began exercising for real--strengthening, cardio and balance. We have TerraTrike Rovers and they are a fun way to exercise--like sitting in a lawn chair, no balancing, wonderful for those with knee issues (like me) as it's very much like a recumbent bike.

Taking the stress-busting challenge, as there is way too much stress in my life from the sheer busyness of it all and the fact that it takes longer to do everything when you're older. I thank God I really have no drama-type stress. I already use many stress-busting techniques, but it's always good to learn more and to tweak what you're doing.

BTW, what's the difference between saying a Hail Mary and a Rosary? We try to say the Rosary every evening and I thought the Hail Mary was one of the prayers in the Rosary.

Thanks and blessings,
B45

My name is Jennifer. I live in Arizona with my husband and two boys (8 and 11 years old). I'm mostly a stay-at-home mom but I also make Rosaries and jewelry so you'll find me out at art shows around Phoenix a few times each month. (Shameless plug: I also have a website, if you're interested - see below.) I'm tired of losing the same weight over and over again so my goal is to lose it for good this time with some help from my "friends"!
Looking forward to losing with you all! God bless!

I've been active on SP since September. I was looking around for another SparkTeam to join and stumbled across this one. I've been a Catholic since birth, my husband converted about 1 year before we got married. I'm a physician in WNY and I have two children.

Hi! My name is Heather. I am 42 and 50 pounds over weight. I am looking for inspiration and support though this journey.

It's been a sad and bad 2 years for me. (sick family member and dealing with their health and getting them help)

I was an RCIA teacher/helper 2005 - 2010 & childrens faith formation teacher after that for a year, but have now not been to mass in over 2 years. (won't go into the why's of that right now) I am not attending church right now, but I want to get back and just not sure how, I'll get there one of these days.
Anyway looking forward to good advice and good blessings to you all
THank you

To the World I am One. To One I am the World...
(well 2 actually. Those 2 furry boys!)
Blessings

Hi, I'm Kathleen, 51 years old with three grown daughters and my husband of 30 years. I am a convert, I chose to become Catholic after I was married (DH is non-Catholic) so it has been almost 30 years. I became Catholic when we were living in Japan, and the priest who taught me, received and confirmed me was a wonderfully kind Maryknoll father. There was no RCIA in those days (at least in Japan) so I learned as best I could from a catechism book and talks with Fr. Lou. My kids went to church when they were younger, they have fallen away now, but I have hopes my youngest (who has Down syndrome) may be willing to join me in going back to church. I was actually a member (non-posting) of this group when I first started doing SparkPeople almost 6 years ago. But I went through a time of questioning whether I wanted to remain Catholic, and dropped out of sight. However, I discovered I could not leave the faith I chose. I want to share with other Catholics who have weight/health struggles. Thank you for still being an active group! CJBaggins I remember you from before! Thanks for being there!

Hi,
My name is Sandra. I am a converted Catholic w/ 2 kids: ds16, dd13. Converted when took RCIA to learn more cuz I & my cradle Catholic Hubby could not answer our kids questions as they were going their classes. Our wonderful priest at the time did not pressure me to join at all.

I was raised attending mainly Quaker by my divorced Mother with strong influences of Methodist (maternal grandmother), Lutheran (Dad - when around & paternal grandmother) and Catholic (maternal grandfather, aunts, uncles & cousins.) Catholoicism was more present than I had realized. Then, I married a catholic boy. hahah.

I have a few health issues I have to deal with other than my weight, but don't we all... we all have our crosses to bear.

My goals are to live as best as God intended me to live. I am human - some days are better than others.

One toothpick is not strong, but many together can be mighty: this is why I am here. I am a member of a couple of other groups as well. I hope this one to reach my sprit.

I am so glad to have found this team. I have been back on SP for a couple of weeks now and I think I have found a team I can really connect with. I am a happy wife and mother of one little angel (my miracle). Needing to loose lots of lbs.
