It might seem a little odd for an Australian-English girl with an Irish background to ask to join you all in a support for President Obama...I do have a great many US links, though. My parents met when both were working in the US, we lived there for three years as a kiddie and spent a further three years in the American School System at a US school in Asia. I've often travelled back there, have a profound admiration for what the US is at its best (my 9th birthday cake was shaped as Abraham Lincoln), and am a fan of Obama as the type of leader we need more of in the world.
Going into the last election, Australia was second only to France in our overwhelming support for Obama as the preferred US president. In 2008 my closest friend and I hosted a party on polling day and watched the results come in - some people joined us in taking the day off work to watch it all unfold. And then we did it again last year.
I have a background in politics myself - I worked for four years as a political adviser and speechwriter down here, so I tend to pay close attention to international politics. Hope you don't mind me joining you, and I promise not to be presumptious and try to tell Americans what they should do in their own internal governance!
