I'm going also. I will be in Washington DC for the Inauguration!! I made tentative reservations with close friends and family who live there back after Iowa. Truthfully, I did. I am taking my daughter and grandson, and my son is flying in from Michigan.
Free tickets for certain events will be released by the congressional offices around the first of January and I'm on a waiting list. If I don't actually get tickets to sit on the capitol steps, the parade is free and I understand that extended and expanded audio and video through jumbotrons are being considered for the Mall(area around and between the memorials) I really just want my children to experience this historic event. I may have to watch from an indoor space where I can hook up my oxygen equipment. I want to be in the atmosphere.
Can you imagine how many people will be in that city?? There are no hotel rooms available. Maybe miles outside. There are 30 buses going from NC and they're staying 20 minutes away in Maryland, which is actually not bad!!
I hope to have lots of pictures and information to share when I get back. Maybe those of us who get there can do a journal like thread of our trip.
To answer the question about what to do; contact the congressman for your congressional district. There are a bunch of events, some sponsored by different states etc. I also heard that there are scalpers selling tickets for ridiculous amounts so beware. Also, go back to my.barackobama.com. I heard that it will guide you to inaugural information.
