Thanks for all the input. I definitely want to go. I was in DC this past summer and last summer with my grandchildren.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn near the mall on C street this past summer. The summer before, we were going out of the Holiday Inn at the Hill to catch a ride when Senator now President-Elect Barack Obama went inside for a meeting. I felt honored to be in his presence.

Now, that I have followed his campaign for months and voted for him...and sent in money...I feel the need to go to DC to witness history.

That's Mag, Homieluvrfrnd. Lots of people will be putting together events just like that all over the country.
And, our local Obama group is starting/continuing to organize for needed change in our community. "yes we can".

I won't be able to go to DC but we a renting a rec center with a huge movie screen size tv to watch with fellow supporters, celebrate the victory together, and see what we can do in our community to say "Yes we can - together."

I am so excited! emoticon

Each one reach one, then no one will be left behind; we are in this together, and it's not just about weight loss, it's about life.

Nov 3rd 2010 thru Nov 3rd 2011, a day NOT exercised to my BEST potential is a day I SIMPLY wasted.

"Use what you got to get the body you want, no equipment, no excuses. Walking is free." My personal quote when all I could do was walk.

Come on, let's do it together.

Hi,

I'm new to this group. Yes, I'm going! My husband and I have hotel reservations and I am too excited. I have never cared about attending an inauguration before, but this is history in the making and so exciting!

I'm going also. I will be in Washington DC for the Inauguration!! I made tentative reservations with close friends and family who live there back after Iowa. Truthfully, I did. I am taking my daughter and grandson, and my son is flying in from Michigan.

Free tickets for certain events will be released by the congressional offices around the first of January and I'm on a waiting list. If I don't actually get tickets to sit on the capitol steps, the parade is free and I understand that extended and expanded audio and video through jumbotrons are being considered for the Mall(area around and between the memorials) I really just want my children to experience this historic event. I may have to watch from an indoor space where I can hook up my oxygen equipment. I want to be in the atmosphere.
Can you imagine how many people will be in that city?? There are no hotel rooms available. Maybe miles outside. There are 30 buses going from NC and they're staying 20 minutes away in Maryland, which is actually not bad!!

I hope to have lots of pictures and information to share when I get back. Maybe those of us who get there can do a journal like thread of our trip.

To answer the question about what to do; contact the congressman for your congressional district. There are a bunch of events, some sponsored by different states etc. I also heard that there are scalpers selling tickets for ridiculous amounts so beware. Also, go back to my.barackobama.com. I heard that it will guide you to inaugural information.

I think you can go to the parade w/o a ticket. I think the only thing you need a ticket to is the swearing in (which is when I think he does his speech).

I am interested in going too and could potentially get the time off. However, some things are unclear to me. For instance, if all I want to do is just stand on the street so I can watch President Obama(I just love saying that) walk to the White House, do I need a ticket? I don't need to sit in the front row or even see him make his inauguration address, I just want to be there. Please, if anyone can clear this up for me it would be a great help. Thanks

FYI - I did book an extra hotel room just in case we had more family coming... I can cancel until 3 days prior... if we don't use (I should know fairly soon) and someone else needs it I don't see why we couldn't just transfer it over. The dates are 1/19-1/22.

I plan on taking a ton of pictures so I will take you all with me in spirit! I called my congress man months ago and I'm 16th on the list to get tickets. My brother just called a few days ago and he's 647th! I have a cousin who lives on captial hill so I'll be staying with her.

I have some family in NC who is working on getting us into a ball - I really don't know what I would do with myself if I got to see him live! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Have a wonderful time - and wave at us! Unfortunately, I will not be able to go, but I'm glad that a couple of you will be there in person - the rest of us will be there in spirit!

I WISH!!! Welcome to the group.

There is no way I could afford to go, or get the time off. How will you? I am a teacher and I only get two personal days a year. I already used one to work for the election. I need to save the other in case something comes up with my kids.

It would be a great 40th birthday gift for me though. I turn 40 on January 26th.

I just have to sit in front of the TV and just imagine. My Manager is going. So at least I will know someone who went. WELCOME!

Right after they announced Obama had won, my husband looked over at me and said, "Should we go to Washington in January?" I sure would love it, but it seems impossible--hotels are already booked...so many people...they're saying it will be a mass "pilgrimage."
