Hi Everyone! I have been inactive on Spark for awhile. Last night I joined this team. I have 100 lbs to lose. This time I really need to do it. I know that God loves me the way I am. I also know that Christ lives in me....and do I want Him living in this body? Please support me on my journey emoticon

I have been an inactive member of this team for quite some time. I am hoping to become active again with the next Bible study.

Hi Sparkers,

I found this team today and so I thought I would join and find some on-line fellowship with the Word of God. I've been on SP for about 4 1/2 years and thanks be to God that I keep my spark.

I converted to Catholicism in 2000. You can read my conversion story here: cinhosa.wordpress.com/why-catholicis

Thank you and my prayers for the team!

Hi, My name is Mary and, yes, I was named after the Blessed Mother. I was excited to find this Spark Team. The weekly Bible Study that I attend takes a break over the summer months. We study the Sunday readings and use the Lectio Divina format. I'm looking forward to participating in the Bible Study that explores God's Name. Thanks for being there.

Hi Janice! Welcome to the team. No one here is perfect and we all struggle at one point or another. You will definitely find the support you need here and on the catholic critters team. Several of us, including me, know how it is to have the support of family, which is really ashame, but I am glad you haven't given up. I think you should try to get back into daily mass--that may nbe the first step in helping you feel better. This lent, one of my goals was to go to mass on other days of the week, not just Sunday. So far, i have made it to Friday mass and some Saturday masses. Unfortunately, where i live, timing is an issue. i can usually go to mass on Friday because I am off that day. As i write this, i realize that i really don't have an excuse to not go to mass on Monday and Tuesday, as i will still get to work on time. So, i guess i'll be going tomorrow morning. Wed morning mass is too late in the morning for me and there is no Thursday morning mass.

Anyway, i digress. You will find the support you need. let us know how we can help. The bible study now is on the gospel of Luke, but you will also find threads on reading the bible in one year and reading the catechism in one year (which will really help in this year of faith). And you may want to check out the thread about how God delights in you--it may help.

Hi, my name is Janice. I am 50 years old and struggling with my faith. I do love our Lord Jesus Christ, but find I get depressed as I do not have any support from my hubby and people around me. It is very difficult to grow spiritually when you can't even talk about our LORD. I was going to mass daily, but now only going once a week. I have NOT given up, but need friends to talk about my faith and grow spiritually. The reason I am interested also with this group is that there is bible studies and find that the spirit is guiding me to join this team.

I can do everything through Christ Jesus

Hi Kimi. I like those cds from Lighthouse media. They did offer them at my church for a couple of years at $3 per cd but they stopped--I guess there just wasn't enough interest in them but I thought some of them were really enlightening. I haven't heard of the one you mentioned, so I will have to look it up

Hello, my name is Kim and I am so happy to have found this team. I go to daily Mass, and have recently been blessed with the grace to form a deeper relationship with our Eucharistic Lord. It is more beautiful that I can explain.

Jill: I too went through RCIA - I received my first Communion and Confirmation into the Church Easter 2010. I know without a doubt that this is the best decision I have ever made for myself - to heed the call of the Lord. There is a CD entitled TRUE WORSHIP by Fr. Mike Shmitz and is put out by Lighthouse Catholic Media, and it is a series of 3 Homilies from Fr. Mike on the Eucharist and the Mass, and it is a true gem for any Catholic, whether they are brand new or lifelong. God bless you as He welcomes you into His Church.

This morning I had TV on a little longer than usual and flipped over to EWTN to see a bit of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen's program. Perhaps this was a special. I enjoyed his talk about the Nativity. I only saw part so when I recognized one of the narrators as being Cameron Mitchell, it really surprised me. I had no idea Cameron Mitchell had any involvement with Fulton Sheen, or EWTN, or Catholicism. I'll research that. (Maybe with my SP link to internet research)

Thanks for the information. I do get the Catechism emails daily. Somehow I managed to sign up for that and I have really enjoyed reading the Catechism that way, otherwise it seems like a huge task.

Welcome to both of you! As you know, the year of faith started on oct 11, and part of learning more includes not just bible study but also reading the catechism. there are 2 threads devoted to this. One is for reading the whole catechism in one year and the other is for reading the bible in one year (readings for weeks 1-44 have been posted). I also post bible quizzes to help keep us on our toes (some questions are easy dependingon what you've been reading!). @OKIEGIRL561--I like Scott Hahn as well. I have heard (on audio cd) some of his lectures and i have watched several episodes of "From Genesis to jesus", which is also a helpful series as bible study goes. Again, welcome to all the new members!

Hello all. I am still trying to learn how to navigate Sparkpeople. I find the sight a little confusing and hard to navigate, but I am sure I will learn as I go. Thank you for the opportunity to join this group and share our Catholic faith and the Scriptures and encouragement on our weight loss journey. Have a blessed day.

Welcome to the team! There are several things you can do. I have been posting weekly bible readings for those members who may want to read the bible from beginning to end. We are up to week 11, but you can jump in anytime. I post new readings weekly. There is also the Agape bible study, which is a free online website. www.agapebiblestudy.com/index.html
This has bible studies which are very informative. I personally have not gone through the whole thing, but I use it when I have questions. I also post weekly readings for the catechism, bible quizzes and bible facts. I don't post much on exercise and physical fitness because I figure most of us are on other teams that can focus on that.

If there's a topic of interest to you, feel free to start a new thread! Let me know how the team can help you towards spiritual fitness!

Hello everyone. I am new and old to this group. I joined this group several years ago but did not stick with it. I am back again and hopefully I will stay this time. I left before because I was in other Bible studies and didn't have the time to keep this one up when I started a new job. I am no longer in another Bible Study and I have failed to keep studying on my own. I hope to keep studying the Bible with the help of this group.

Hello everyone! I am new to this group and have been on SP since the beginning of last month. I have a life-long history of obesity, so it's always been a struggle in my life. 3 years ago, I was able to turn that around and begin the journey I am on today...I have lost 132 pounds, with about 42 to go to reach my goal weight. I have done different "diets" along the way - when I get stuck too long at one place, I change streams. I am logging calories at loseit.com (since I was already so familiar with that, I've not done it here on SP), and for the last 4-5 months, have been on a plant-based, whole foods plan of eating (consciously NOT using the word DIET there). I feel better, very healthful. I have been exercising consistently for the last year and a half, which has proved critical in my journey. Even MORE critical than all of that, however, is my faith, and the grace God has given me to tackle this area, once and for all. It will be ongoing for the rest of my life, but for the first time in my adult life, I think and feel like I can have victory in this area. Thank you, Lord!!!

Cradle Catholic, and also part of a Christian ecumenical community, called People of Praise, I have lots of support, loving relationships, etc. I look forward to learning more with all of you,
Jen

Hi!
Happy Easter!

I am Anne and I am new to the team. I have been on SP for a little over a month and have enjoyed it. I thought it prudent to join some Catholic teams, since I am a Catholic. I am a lector, choir member, substitute religious ed teacher, and member of the Parish Pastoral Council. I enjoy reading the Bible and reciting the Chaplet. I hope to inspire and be inspired.

Praise the Lord, for He is risen! Alleluia!

Anne

Hi! I'm Cathy. I've been away from the Church for the last several months. Today I decided that I needed to return, so I went to Mass this morning. I'm so glad I did.

I don't know what happened. I used to teach CCD, but when I stopped, I drifted away. I'm very happy to be back and to have found this team.

Hello Bernadette! Welcome to the team :) I'm also looking forward to lent as a way to renew my resolutions and strengthen my faith in the Lord. As I've said before, we're happy to have you with us! Also, you may be interested in our weekly bible study. I was baptized on Easter of 2009 so I am pretty new at this but I am trying to learn and grow my faith so I am leading a bible study to help accomplish that. Join in anytime! Good luck with all your goals. God Bless and Be Well!

May we all know that we can do anything we put our minds to and may we all come to know the sides of ourselves that are unstoppable!

Hello.....I hope I'm posting on the correct thread...
I'm Bernadette.
I'm new to this team, although I've been a member of SP for several months. Unfortunately, I have not remained committed to my efforts to lose weight as the I've eaten my way through the holidays and the beginning of the year (is it already March???)....
Lent's a week away and that seems like a perfect time to renew my faith as well as my efforts to live out my faith with greater integrity--including how I behave when baked goods or chocolate are near.
I was raised Catholic but I cannot say I was well educated in the Catholic faith, despite having gone to Catholic school my entire life. In many ways, therefore, I feel as though I am a new Catholic, only just now learning about what the church really teaches and believes on so many subjects. I'm happy to have found this team, therefore, since reading the Bible and really understanding the tradition of wisdom it contains has been a goal of mine for several years. Like my goal to lose weight, I'm finally getting around to it.....and what a blessing that I can do both simultaneously here.
Looking forward to getting to know you and the Bible in the months ahead.

Hi,

I am new to this team. I have been Catholic since I was born. I was very involved in my church in the town we used to live in - we attended church regularly, I taught CCD, participated in all sorts of activities. Then our family went thru a very difficult time and I kinda lost my way. We ended up moving out of the state and I havent been to church since. Due to a medical condition I am not allowed to drive right now and my husbands working schedule so thats another reason why we dont get to mass. I pray daily and I attempt to keep up such as watching occasional masses online and stuff but its not the same I know.

Sue

Hello everyone! I'm Sarah, I'm a Catholic convert. I love my faith and I more than anything I love the Lord. I'd really like this team to get moving again because I am greatly interested in studying the bible in more depth. It is easy to do daily readings but it is hard to find conversation on them.

May we all know that we can do anything we put our minds to and may we all come to know the sides of ourselves that are unstoppable!

Hi, I'm new to this team. Am 58 years old and have been disabled for 3-1/2+ years due to heart and lung problems, not to mention diabetic complications. Have had 2 open heart surgeries, last of which they did not give me much of a chance; have congestive heart failure and major breathing problems. Also have diabetes mellitus, type 2, with severe diabetic neuropathy of both legs and hands. Having been a business woman working in medicine all my life, am finding it very hard to be disabled and dealing with a total life change. Was a practicing Catholic up until about six years ago and IN DEALING WITH ALL THIS AND NOT WANTING TO LIVE, MY INNER SELF TURNED TO MY LAST SOURCE OF STRENGTH AND HELP, GOD, WHO IS STILL WITH ME FOR THE GROWING AND IMPROVEMENT TIMES, NOT TO MENTION THE SPIRITUAL GROWTH I HAVE BEEN BLESSED TO ACHIEVE. I WOULD NOT GIVE UP MY SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND PRAYER TIME WITH GOD FOR ANYTHING....IT IS TRULY AWESOME. emoticon Joined Spark about 1 months ago and I have noticed lots of improvement in food thoughts, fitness level and mental improvement. Am still working at starting to encompass spiritual growth with the Spark program. I need help and support for continued progress with lifestyle changes for the long haul!!! I TRULY WANT TO CONTINUE ON MY SPIRITUAL PATH AND GET BACK TO BEING A TRUE PRACTICING CATHOLIC, disabilities and all!!! emoticon Barb

Hi! I'm new! So full of joy being a Catholic for the last 18 yrs, converting from Southern Baptist. But I still love my Baptist roots & know God had me there to learn my love of scripture & the wonderful hymns & music. When I became Catholic, I know that was God leading me in the right direction in His timing. Now I embrace my Catholic faith fully & my family's very active in our parish & have been from the beginning. The transition was easy because I'm assured it was from God. My love of God's Word has attracted me to Bible Study since a teenager. I've been in many studies at my parish & in my community, leading several of them. My blessing is that I've been in a small group study with 5 other Catholic moms for the last 14 yrs. We're very bonded & this leads to intimate study discussions as we explore the many excellent Catholic Bible studies for all these yrs. We try & usually make a retreat each year (but there's 22 children between us all, making it a challenge). When the kids were younger, we also made a 'just for fun' trip in the summer with ALL the kids. What great memories. So Bible study is VERY important to me, on my own or in groups. I'm looking forward to what this team will offer to help me continue to grow in faith, hope & love.
Peace, emoticon

Hello,
My name is Julie. I am a Catholic convert. I converted at 17, left the church by 22 and returned 9 years ago. It has taken me this long to develop community in the Catholic churches I've attended and to realize that the Eucharist is the body and blood of Christ, the reason I go to mass.
I've had a very big transition in my life. I've moved from the city to the country in the past 3 years. As a Waldorf School teacher it is our tradition to take our class of children from grade 1 through to grade 8. This is my last year to commute and the commuting has been a terrible stress for me. I'm actually living off the farm this year and I stay in town from Monday night through Friday morning. My husband is newly retired this year and now we are parted until I graduate my class this June. My goal is to use my farm for Farm Based Education. This is a fabulous way for children to reconnect to nature and this is an amazing need.
I have big concerns about public and Catholic education and I feel led by spirit to have a farm program for children.
Lately I've missed mass too many times, this is not good I realize because the diet for life must always include the body and blood of Christ and I know this. My commuting and odd living style will end by June. Pray for me that I may have the courage and strength to do Gods will. May he increase and may I decrease. Blessings to everyone. I will love to talk to everyone at this site.
Julie emoticon

Hi, I am new here. I am 46 years old and convert catholic for about 10 years. I have a lot of weight to lose, closer to 100 lbs. My reason for losing weight is to be healthy as I am the temple of God. Also, if I am not physically active, I cannot serve as I would like to. Hope this time I take it very slow, but steady.

Hello everyone! I've been trying to keep up with SP or a few months, however, being in the military, I travel a lot, and it isn't a priority emoticon My faith, however, IS. I live in a small town with a very small Church, mainly composed of retirees. We have two teen-aged daughters, and we'll all attended Tres Dias (the non-denominational version of Crusillo.) We are all as active as we can be in a small church, and I want to touch base with others who share our beliefs, and my desire to live a healthier life-style!! I'm excited to have the opportunity to get to know you all better!

God indeed is my Savior;
I am confident and unafraid.

and he has been my Savior.

Hi Everyone!
I've met many of you already, but am new on this forum. Scott and Kimberly Hahn's book "Rome Sweet Home" was one of the first books I read on my journey to know and love God more and become a better Catholic. After reading how Kimberly (who was a strong Protestant at the time) studied and then decided Catholics are right about not using birth control, I went off birth control at 38. I already had 2 children, a boy and girl and we thought that was it for us. I became pregnant at 40 and again at 41. Both pregnancies ended in miscarriages, but I'm so happy to know I have two children in Heaven waiting for me who would not be there if I had continued to say no to God's will. I had used birth control since I got married at 27. I know it is a difficult issue even for Catholics - I didn't follow it for 11 years, but Kimberly (now a Catholic) explained it so well. I now trust completely in God and our beautiful Catholic Church.
Hope you don't mind this long personal testimony, but I feel the need to share it. God bless you all!
Patty

Hi Jennifer,

My co-worker (now) previously worked with Scott putting together the Salvation History study. I attended it. I attend most of his talks. Actually he is doing a 6-week study on St. Paul on Sunday nights, but I haven't made them. He is a great teacher because he can speak at our level and what he says blows me away about our God! Enjoy your classes! sharon ann

Back again! I visited the salvation history site, and signed up for both of the beginner lessons. I have read the book, "the Lamb's Supper" before, which is the topic of one of the classes. I am a "cradle Catholic" yet it taught me so much about the Mass, and the meaning of the Eucharist. The other lesson was the other beginner course,an overview, or "big picture " of the Bible. (I think it was called from Genesis to Revelation, or something.) Am I signed up for the right class? I will be starting school again next week, (I teach) but I hope I will be able to keep up with SP and this study.
God Bless,
Jennifer

Hi,
I have been on SP for about 3 weeks now, and I really love it. I've been doing some exploring tonight, and am glad to find some Catholic groups. My big motivation for losing weight began with a group started at my church last month.

I have read the New American Bible cover to cover- it took me two years, exactly! I am reading devotions from Your Whole Life- a Christian weight loss program called 3D. I will check out the web site you are using.

Welcome STITCH55. Glad to have you as part of our team. This is a great place for encouragement and spiritual development. You could read through the threads and see what I'm talking about.

We are currently doing the bible study at www.salvationhistory.com. You could click on the group picture, the Divine Mercy Picture, and register for the Biblical Theology Track. Post your thoughts and comments on the Group Bible Study thread. I have already completed lesson 1 and am moving on to lesson 2.

Looking forward to studying and losing with you.

Once again welcome on board.

Hello, I'm new to the group. I started SP about 4 months ago. I'm a stay at home mom of 4 from the Philadelphia area. I've been a member of a Women's Faith and Bible Study group for nine years. This looked like a good group for weight loss encouragement and spiritual development. I'm looking forward to participating.

Welcome to both Flatspot and Meli! I have been with Sparkpeople for a little over a year and have found the site and the teams very helpful in my weight loss journey. I had lost 15 pounds and thought I could keep going on my own. Well, guess what - I gained back 9 of those pounds. Now, I am communicating again regularly with my Spark teams and trying to lose the weight I regained. So, my advice to everyone one is stay in touch! Take a moment or two at least three times a week to post on Sparkpeople. It does help!

Hello Flatspot

Welcome to our team. We are happy to have you here with us. I have been on and off SP myself too. My biggest issue is with exercising and having the discipline to stick to a healthy eating plan. It is not difficult to do but being an emotional eater I have a greater challenge ahead.

We will pass on what we can to you and we hope to learn from you as well since everyone's journey is different even if they have the same goals.

It appears that you do not have a SparkPage and creating one would be nice.

One thing that could help alot on this site is tracking what you eat or following a meal plan. Use our weigh-in thread to let us know how you are doing, good or bad we would like to be by your side.

Looking forward to losing with you.

Hello everyone! I'm new to the team, and thought I'd introduce myself. I've been on and off of SP for a while now, and hoping that this time's the charm. Joining a team seems like a good way to increase my chance of success.

Like most of you, trying to live a healthier life has been as much a spiritual journey as anything else. I look forward to learning more from this team!

Hi Ladies

This is your absentee team leader. I would like to commend 12bwell for keeping the team going. With the challenges of being a full time mom, wife and working mother i find it very difficult to get online most of the time. I don't think I have signed on in a year. I was quite elated to see the team still going strong after such a long time.

TIGER2MOM I too teach confirmation formation classes, i actually started with the preconfirmation students and i would like to continue with them through to confirmation. Probably we could hook up some time and chat. It is nice to meet someone else with the same interest as me besides weight loss.

To all the other folks welcome on board and I wish you all the success with your weightloss goals.

Welcome everyone. I'm Jan and I really like SP. It does take a while to navigate because there is so much here. My biggest find was the healthy lifestyle, wellness, mind over body - program. I really took it to heart and I was truthful with myself, and found out a lot that I didn't realize before.

Laura,

Do you use the food tracker to keep track of your calories? It helped me a lot when I first joined Spark People. Now I find the different challenges from various teams motivating.

Hi Laura. Well if you're looking for motivation you have come to the right place. You need to get familiar with the website and everything it has to offer. It took me a while to see what all they had and it has evolved so much since I started two years ago.

I too enjoyed so much being a part of my parish activities. I was in the church choir for 10 years, in the church youth group, I was actually president of the youth group for 2 years. I also did the Posadas that we do every year for Christmas and the ViaCrusis (Passion) as well. It has been incredible. HOwever, since I got married I have preoccupied myself with being able to be independent from my parent's orders (they are very strict) and so I have put traveling and roadtrips ahead of being at church every Sunday and being active in my church community. But I'm trying to make that all change this year. I am trying to be a more active member of my parish again and hopefully get my husband more involved as well.

Welcome to this team. I have to tell you it does get slow at times but just keep at it and I'll try to keep stopping by when I can. otherwise you can always add me to your list of friends.

Hello all! My name is Laura and I live in northeast Tennessee. I am involved in RCIA, choir, Renew, Parish Council, Justice and Peace ministry, and Eucharistic Adoration in my parish. As you can tell, I really love being involved in my church!
I also work 40 hours a week for a major telecommunications company, but I am not married and have no children.
I joined Spark people in November but I am still having trouble getting motivated to start dieting.
