Good day everyone! I am setting a new course by following Beck, Core foods (old plan on WW), and checking in here. My goal is 5lbs by Christmas, and I have a challenge to a few friends that we each lose the 5 or eat Swanson's for our holiday dinner. I am hoping this will jumpstart my weightloss in the new year - my best year yet.

thank you ValGal2 and Judi Cutie for your replies.
Good to know my cards are enough, I like colour-coding.
I'm still reading, I'll start making cards on second reading.

I also think you will have plenty of cards Sunny. I actually do not have a clear distinction in my mind about the types of cards. I have my advantages on one main list, and some of them are copied out onto some cards. In my same little pack of cards, I also have several "responses" to keep me on track. I just cleaned out my old batch of cards and updated some. I think I used to have about 20 and now maybe 15??

Unless there is a major difference in books that I haven't hear of, you will not need that many cards! There's no way you could keep up with all of them and the purpose of them is to read them when you need help staying on track.

Green book readers... am I incorrect?

I followed the pink book (and am now) a few years ago and it was a GREAT aid in helping me lose 30 pounds! I have allowed life events to put all those pounds back on, but I fully believe and support Beck's plan.

Welcome to the group!

Thank you Cindilp, Judie Cutie and Jibbie49 for your warm welcome. It is helpful that you know the differences between the pink and green versions, if I need any help with my green one.
One question if I may: how many cards will I need for each category? From what I've read so far there are three categories: Response, Advantages and Memory. The reason I'm asking is because many years ago while studying in the UK I bought some 3 x 5 cards in four colours, pink, green, blue and yellow. There are 100 in each pack but I don't think I would be able to find more here. Of course I also have white ones and there is no difficulty buying more of those here, so if there is a category that requires more than 100 cards I would use white for that.
Thank you

Welcome Sunny! I'm from the pink book generation! But I think the principals are the same. Welcome to the team! And I hope you will like the Beck approach. I am just in the process of recommitting to this. I lost 40 pounds in about a year and a half, then I kept it off for a year and a half, and then this past year, I gained 10 pounds back! UGH. So I let some of Beck ways slip. But as I go through the book again, I am finding that a good part of what I learned is still here in my good habits. (But not all! So I have to get with it!)

Hi. I have that book also. Its a newer version. Not sure that is the way to describe it. Its different in some ways from the Pink one, but it also has much of the same material. Between the two books she realized that just telling people to pick a diet wasn't enough for some people. So, the green one has everything from the pink one in a different form and also has a diet. The rest of the stuff is pretty much the same, just not arranged in days like the pink one is. The green one is more how I think and do things. She puts the material from the pink book more into stages and tasks. Then she gets into how to handle special situations and how to make it a long term lifestyle. I think the pink one is good, but I get bogged down with the format sometimes. I have the workbook and the CDs for the pink one. But, as soon as the green one came out, I got that one and loved it.

When I got the green book, I think we tried to have a discussion group for it here.

Hello, I started reading The Complete Beck Diet for Life book yesterday and thought I would try to find a corresponding Spark team. This must be a different version from the one people here are using--my cover is green, not pink like the team logo. The cover says it's a Five-Stage Program, and includes the Think Thin Eating Plan. According to the introduction the feedback from readers of the original Beck Diet Solution and Workbook was that 'most dieters need more guidance in selecting their food', so there is a diet plan, but I imagine the basic principles are the same so I hope I can find support in this group.
I've armed myself with cards, notebook etc and will continue reading the book. I'm not ready to start the diet plan yet: I had found a sick kitten last week but despite my best efforts it died this morning so I am feeling sad and have been eating chocolate all morning. I'll start once I feel better and finish the book. I did scroll through some of the forums here, there appear to be daily tasks but I could not understand this--I imagine this will make more sense once I've read the book.
