Just joined. I've lost weight and gained it back so many times I can't count. I was skinny when I was growing up and food wasn't important to me now I'm obsessed with it. After I started reading the Beck book I realized I just lost my way of thinking and now I'm going to retrain my brain to do as she says "Think like a thin person". I've used cognitive behaviour in another serious aspect of my life and it saved my life so I don't see why it won't work with eating/diet.

Hi everyone!
I am new to the Beck diet solution after reading many of your entries for the past few weeks. I am really learning ways to make positive changes with this plan. I look forward to catching up with you regularly for support and to help where I can. Here's to being mindful!

Hi folks,
I'm writing this with a bit of a lump in my chest. I was a member of this team up until last spring, after really embracing beck and getting some weight off, life got busy (doesn't it always) and I decided, Sp & Beck was too much to focus on and I didn't have time, etc. etc. etc. Well, here it is almost 9 months later and I've gained almost all the weight back and lost some of the confidence I had gained. I rejoined sp but was hesitant to rejoin this team, I felt like a failure and tried to convince myself I could use another team or group for support. But Beck is about overcoming old patterns and reaching out for support so with slightly moist eyes, I'm back and ready to help and be helped.

I would like to find a one on one diet buddy in addition to the team, so if there are any other new folks willing to jump to that level of commitment, send me a message. Reporting on the daily check in works well, but I found I would could easily "forget" or skip days because I wasn't responsible to an individual.

Good luck folks! Glad to be back,
Sarah

I just joined Sparks today after hearing it mentioned on the Today Show. I've been a member of The Best Life online for 2 years and I'm letting my membership expire. I read Beck over a year ago and loved it. I've been sitting on a plateau for a year after losing 35 pounds. I have 20 more to lose to reach my goal weight. I plan on re-reading Beck and checking in with you all often!

I have been a member of Sparkpeople for awhile, but I have not really taken advantage of the resources offered here. I have been exercising regularly for over 6 months now and I feel ready to tackle my behavior with food. Glad to find this group on Spark!

I too have felt overwhelmed many, many times. Beck is so compassionate and yet realistic. Page 13, "If I eat something I shouldn't, it's just a mistake. It doesn't mean I'm hopeless or bad." Marie, there's nothing magic about starting your "diet" on Day 15. Maybe you could give yourself permission to look at a couple of the early days in the book and follow one of those assignments tomorrow. Beck does not want it to be threatening; elsewhere I have read this kind of assurance from her: "It's no big deal if I do some days many times. I'll stick with whatever part of the program I can manage. Maybe later will be the right time for me to do Day 15." Marie, you had the courage to write this message. You are on the right path. We are cheering for you!

Are you reading the advantage response cards? The one I made with all the reasons I want to lose has been really controlling the binging I've been known to do oh so often. Just think about all the reasons you really want to lose and I'm sure it will help.

i don't know if this will be helpful or not, but maybe you could start by figuring out how many calories you are eating now, and just slowly cut back. then it would be less frightening maybe?

i took stock of my eating habits again a month or two ago and realized i was eating 2700-2800 per day. for me going down to 2000 from that would have been really difficult. to drastic of a switch up front to stick to. so i started by trying to stick to 2500, then 2400, etc. i hope that helps! best wishes.

and welcome to the team, by the way! :)

I am new here too and I am in the exact same position. This is a struggle for me too. I am trying to concentrate on taking it one meal at a time. If I think about restricting my eating it just makes me want to eat more. So like Beck says, give yourself credit for the things you are doing right and a little bit at a time we will get there.

Hi, I've been on Spark for awhile, but just discovered this team. I've been working through the Beck weight loss workbook and am coming to the end of the 2nd week. I'm due to start "the diet" on Monday, and I am just dreading it. I've been doing the daily assignments, but have been basically eating whatever I want, including a little binging. I am so scared of restricting what I'm eating, although I'm planning to follow an 1800 calorie program, which I know from past experience, I won't be hungry on. But the thought of not eating packages of oreos at a sitting, like I've been doing throws me into a bit of a panic. Even reading the cards isn't helping. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks.
Marie
