Hi, Unlike most of you I am new to reading. Imagine that! Late in life.....my reading switch clicked on.....LOL. I began a year ago when my knee gave out and was hobbling around. Feeling down and out I went to library and found non-fiction adventure books. A Walk in the Woods was one of them. My reads went from people walking across America, biking across America, hiking Appalachian Trail and PCT, climbing Mt Everest, stranded alone at sea, sunken ships and Shakleton. I'm always looking for the next new read.

Welcome to the team, Sally. I've found book clubs stretch what I would typically pick for myself. I've had a few that I never would've picked myself, that I've ended up loving.

Hi, my name is Sally and I live in Scotland. I love reading and I'm looking forward to seeing what other people are reading too. At the moment I'm reading Joanne Harris's Runemarks. This is a fantasy story, not my usual choice but it's still engaging. I've just finished The Man who Forgot his Wife by John Farrell. That was my book club's choice for this month. Very funny but very thought provoking too.

Fell by the wayside last year but back on track now.

Welcome to the team, Becky. Thank you for being a librarian. I think that is an underrated profession and it has come to so much more than "finding a book" in this day and age.

Welcome Becky! How wonderful to work at a library! I applied once ... when fresh out of business school ... another girl and I applied ... she got it! I went on to careers elsewhere but always wished I had gotten that job!

I agree, it's nice to talk about 'something else' ... other than food. It's always uppermost in my mind however but sometimes I feel we can talk it to death - up one side and down another - ha!

Haven't heard of the books/author you are reading ... have to check it out. take care, dj

Hi my name is Becky. I love reading. I actually work in a library so it's kinda perfect. I love that there is a group here that doesn't concentrate totally on food. I have over 200 pounds to lose and don't need to talk about food all the time. So I like the idea of talking about books. I am currently at the end of a book that has been extremely good. It's AD 33 by Ted Dekker. The first one was really good as well. AD 30.

I like to read all sorts of things. I am just getting into James Patterson books. They have been good too.

Looking forward to conversations in this group. Thanks for being here.

Welcome to the team, Mary. The audiobooks really get me through the cardio workouts. I'd be nored out of my mind without it and then I would start thinking about how much I hate doing cardio.

Hello, Monic. This group is about any books - classic or not. We vote on a monthly read (this month is What She Left Behind), but we also have threads to list and review any books you read during the month. There are also a couple of reading challenges if you would like to participate in any of those.

Aloha - I'm DJ ... an avid reader ... and knitter ... and when knitting I listen to audiobooks. These are my passions and unfortunately I'm 'sitting' most of the time which does not help my need to exercise/weight loss issues. I also am a fan of eating well (whole foods/plant-based) which DOES help - ha! I have a container veggie garden and I 'landscape' with herbs.

I've never been in a book club before so this will be fun. I order books from my local library. We live in a very small rural village on the Big Island and it's a very small library but the greatest!

I've been married 28 years and about 5 years ago got my husband interested in reading. He likes detective/suspense novels - not my fave - but I'm so glad he is reading! We are retired and now take time off in the afternoons to 'read together'. Who would have ever thought?

Looking forward to getting to know all of you ... and more books to discover! ~dj

Hi all!! One of my NY resolutions was to read a book a month. I am a terribly slow reader who easily gets distracted and reads many books and finishes few! So finding this team makes me so happy! I am almost finished with my latest but I don't know if I will finish it before tomorrow is through. And sad part is it is an extra day this year, HA!

I have several books awaiting to be read so I need to stay away from any recommendations :)

I love sending postcards! If you would like one Spark message me your address :D.

Hi. My name is Veronica and I an new to the community/groups/message boards at SparkPeople. I heard about SparkPeople a long time ago, but now, I have decided to try it for real. I need to lose about 30-40 pounds and was recently diagnosed with low magnesium levels which means I need to keep track of all my minerals and vitamin levels as well. SparkPeople has the best info for that. I LOVE to read and this month's selection has been on my "to read" list for a while. Looking forward to "meeting" and interacting with all of you!

thank you for your words which i needed to hear. i very seldomly compare myself to others but by others being "better" than me (in my eyes) is how i motivate myself to push harder in a most non-competitive way possible... no problem there, it's how i make healthy progress. i do hope i start reading for my own soul alone daily, too... thank you, again.

taking a minute & introducing myself here :)
i joined this club as a motivation to return to my old state of mind which was eager to absorb the oh so many fictional and non-fictional worlds.. i used to really love reading ANYthing and buying books.. but then i got sick with schizophrenia a good 4 years ago and i was unable to THINK much less read and stay focused for longer periods of time.. since i got sick, though i am constantly working on my mind and how to strengthen it and how to make the voices go away and since the end of last last year - i am virtually down to a minimal distraction, which is only present at night-time.. i am still slow and i read one book in this time (Nikola Tesla's Biography) but i am so greatful and glad i can now focus and read through things so as a good start of the new Era for me, i picked up a really really short one today: Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It. You guys would probably finish it in 20 minutes, it took me an hour.. i have joined the challenge of reading for 30 minutes a day and i hope i can contribute to the challenges total sum "significantly" (in my eyes at least)..
happy reading everyone emoticon

that took longer than a minute. peace.

I'm Ursula 29, and love reading. But I haven't been reading that much the last 2 years. Better to say I haven't been reading diverse books ,I read fan-fiction and fantasy books ,the kind where there are 5-6 in series and going . I'm hoping to expand on the kind of books I read. I'm also trying to get INTO books again, the last couple of years the way I read was kinda shallow.
Also hoping to lose some weight :)

*this is my firs message board post,so I hope I'm doing it right.

Welcome to the team BBFLEW. I'm doing NaNoWriMo too And of course 3 books I had on hold at the library (all different spots of the waiting list) all showed up Saturday and today. ;) I'm a firm believer that slow and steady wins the race when it comes to weight loss and getting in shape.

Hi! I've lost 33lbs over the last 10 months, going the slow and steady route. Learning more about myself as I go along.

I love reading, but I haven't been doing too much this month, as I'm also participating in NaNoWriMo. :) Still, I managed to start You Make Me by Erin McCarthy on the treadmill this morning.

Hi there! I just joined the team, but I've been a member of SP for awhile. Reading is my favorite thing! So glad there a team for that!

I love mysteries and science fiction. I teach middle school, so I read a lot of young adult and middle grade books too. My son is 9 so I try to stay up with Wimpy Kid too.

Right now I'm reading a lot of books about fitness and nutrition because I want to really take control of my diet and make changes for the better.

Happy to be a part of this group!

Hello! I'm Heather and I just re-joined SparkPeople today. Since I'm working on my overall health, I thought I'd join a team that had something to do with my favorite activity - reading. At this point, I'm ready to do just about anything to keep myself motivated and making positive changes.

Hi. My name is Christi. I'm 55 years old and recently retired from my job. I've been on Spark for a few years, but now that I have more time I'm making a more concentrated effort to get healthy. I love to read and am currently into young adult fiction. I joined this team because I liked the monthly challenges you've had in the past and I would love to participate in the reading and discussions.

Hi everyone! As you can tell by my username I've been trying to change my bad habits since 2008. I'm on my way, using the tips I learned from previous attempts. I live in metro Detroit, married, have a son and his wife is on spark people too. I've been walking 2 miles 5 days a week and my goal is to be able to jog by October. I'm 58 so Larry ...you give me hope that I can still jog at my age. I have had foot problems but have orthodics so am finally able to walk without pain.

I love to read..just picked up I am Malala and am enjoying it already.

Hello there. My name is Susan. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA. Love to read and consider books 'treasures'. Have collected so many that I've run out of space in my tiny apartment. Must learn to read, enjoy and then pass on. This is my first ever book club.

Hi- I'm Sandra. This is my 60th day of joining SP. I'm from Canada, in my 50's, wife, mother of 4 and working as a pediatric RN. I've always wanted to be part of a book club and time was always a factor. I enjoy reading but some books are better enjoyed by sharing with others. I hope this team will stretch me to expand my reading.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Hello.
I'm new to SparkPeople. I'll be turning 27 and I just got married to my highschool sweetheart in May, we've been together for 11 years. Now we are preparing out lives to start trying for a baby. We moved to another side of the country because of his job. So at the moment I'm kind of lacking a support and friends around me who understand me.
I'm have been a bookworm since I was a child. I enjoy everything from historical drama to fantasy novels. I hope I can get to know you guys, share some book ideas and discuss the magical world of books as we enjoy this weight loss journey.

Hi, I am Larry a new member who loves to read. I read mostly Kindle books checked out online from my local library through Overdrive and Amazon and it looks like I have been reading on average two books each week over the last 18 months. I have been on SparkPeople since March 2010. I had become a runner at age 62 through the Couch to 5K program and also reached my goal weight with the help of my Sparkfriends and my primary Spark Team. Last year I had to have spinal surgery and was bedridden for over two months and on pain meds for 3 months - I gained 20 pounds. My primary Spark Team also dissolved and I have been drifting since then. I am happy to have found your team and look forward to sharing reading interests with all of you!

New Member here! Today is a special day. Not only is it day one of the "new me" as I journey through weight loss on Sparkpeople - but I just got my copy of Harper Lee's, Go Set a Watchman! I am debating staying up tonight to read - I'll worry about sleep tomorrow! Just saying' "hi" everyone. Hope you had a great day!

My name is Latisha and I have been a Spark member since January. I love reading inspirational and spiritual books, but I will read other books as time permits. I thought it would be interesting and challenging to join this team to see if I could keep up with your book selections during the summer months. We'll see and I look forward to chatting with you in the near future.

Hello everyone. I'm Sherry and I have been in and out (mostly out, lately) for a couple of years here on SP. Anyway, I'm back again :) I really like this Book Club group and I'm looking forward to reading The Handmaid's Tale. I'm an elementary school librarian - so blessed to be around books year round. In the summer months I get to read what I want! Whooo!

Hello, all! I was looking at book club teams on SparkPeople, and I chose y'all because of your June Read. emoticon The Handmaid's Tale is one of my very favorites, and I can't wait to start re-reading it. I'm currently reading Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, and I'm kinda struggling with it. Anyway, looking forward to the great discussions that will inevitably sprout up in the wake of Atwood's best. Clare here and i enjoy reading all sorts of books. I've always loved reading and get lost in the stories. One of my pet hates is when a great book comes to the end.
I love reference books and love to learn new things.
I cannot wait to start reading June's book whatever it is.

emoticon Tammy! I love my kindle, too! I have about 5 books going at the same time and all in one place~lol! One thing I like to do to get my exercise in while I read is to listen to audiobooks. I take a walk and listen. If I am really into the story, it keeps me going longer! I'm also motivated to go the next day to continue the book. My library has them available for download and there is also a service to subscribe to called Audible Books (not sure this is the right name). Happy reading!

I have been on spark people for almost three months now and I am new to this team. I love to read. Reading is one of my favorite things to do. I have my kindle wherever I go. Some say I am addicted to it. But I have to fit exercise in my schedule. Trying to do that now.

I just joined the team, and am starting back on SP after about 6 months. I love to read. I have the Nook app on my iPad, and also iBooks. I've been an avid reader since I was a child. I'd be happy to reread Austen's "Sense & Sensibility". It's been a loooong time since I read it. I'm a very eclectic reader and have passed on my love to my children and grandchildren, who all read every day! Even the 4 year old (who is read to every day).

So glad to join this team,
Diane

Hello!
I just (re)joined Spark a few days ago, maybe this time it'll work.
I am a reading addict. Last year I read just over 90 books. I had planned to read more this year but probably will read less b/c I'm planning to replace alot of my reading time with getting my butt out walking!
I love women's fiction and that's mostly what I read, Kristin Hannah, Susan Mallery, Mark Kay Andrews, Sarah Jio, etc. I really like books set in the south for some reason, even though I've never been anywhere near the south (west coast girl here)
I have been married 10.5 years (together 20) and have 2 awesome Boston Terriers.

Belated emoticon to all of you!

Diane~I love James Patterson, too! I have listened to a the audio version of a lot of his books~they definitely keep my interest!

Brooke~I have done the same thing with trying to look up definitions in the real books, too~haha!

Jen~The challenge is listed here on our team page under Team Challenges. A lot of us are keeping track there :)

McGarrison28~I live in Oregon, too!

Tazd2008~You can find a lot of suggestions for books under the What are You Reading thread and also the Books Read thread which members actually rate books. We'd love to hear about what you're reading, too!

Alice~You sound like me with several books going at the same time~anywhere and everywhere!

Rufushexe~I love audiobooks, too! I can do 2 things at once that way :)

Burningthyme101~I try to read at least 2 classics a year.

Sandy~I haven't heard of Oyster books, but I LOVE my Kindle!

Cathys07~I LOVE the library, too! Our library has books that can be downloaded to e-readers, so it's a win-win :)

Ldotson7~I have the Outlander series downloaded, but it's still in my to-read pile. How do you like them? Glad you'll be joining in this month's book selection/discussion.

I read every day. I have a NOOK and it has been one of the best investments I have made in the last ten years. I read so much that sometimes I have to take a few days off because my eyes get too tired, but it's my way of getting to sleep at night. Right now I am on the most recent book in the Outlander series, I've really enjoyed those. Some of my favorite books in the last year have been Gone Girl, Midnight Crossing, Mercedes Man and these Outlander books. I'd love to be challenged to read things that I wouldn't normally read on my own. Sense and Sensibility is going to be right up my alley. So I'll start that right away.

Hello all,

I am so excited to be a part of this book club. I am an avid reader and I usually read history and true crime. It will be fun to read a classic. I will start the book tomorrow. I am pretty sure I can download it through Oyster books or Kindle.

I haven't been busy reading a series since Nancy Drew days now I'm into the Womans Murder Club by James Paterson which is another series. However I'd like to get into other types of books at the same time. Sense and Sensibility is a well written classic. I've read many of the classics before. Going to see how much I get out of the book this time. emoticon

Hello out there! I used to read all the time and have looked for local book clubs in my area but haven't found any. I just don't have the time to start one. I work as a caregiver and medication aid in Oregon. I want to lose 65 pounds by September but that being said I want to get myself back into reading. My favorite authors are Jodi Piccoult and Robyn Carr but looking to expand my reading adventures. happy reading emoticon

I'm Jen... There was a point in my life where I read a lot... I would like to get back there if not I would like to read a bit everyday. There is a reading challenge with pop sugar I printed out and would like to get started with... Even if I don't finish it in 2015, I would like to continue it for as long as it takes. Have a great day! Jen

I'm Brooke. I'm a librarian in Michigan and yes, I love to read! I switch between reading library books and books on my Kindle. This causes confusion sometimes; I'll be reading a regular book and touch the page, expecting a definition to pop up. This looks like a fun group and I'm looking forward to exploring it.

My name is Diane. I am 30 years old and I love to read. My favorite quote to describe my obsession for reading is: "I would give up reading, but I'm no quitter!" I will read anything and everything, but my favorite genres are horror and suspense. I have recently become enamored with James Patterson. He is a pretty amazing wordsmith. I've been looking for a book club in my area, but I never have a chance to get out and attend any meetings. This is perfect for me! I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi, everyone! I am new to the team. As strange as it sounds, I really love great children's books (must be the teacher in me!). I also love Agatha Christie, good historical romances (there aren't many that are well written), Nicolas Sparks, and John Grisham. A couple of my favorite books are Memoirs of a Geisha, A Wrinkle in Time, Curtain, and Between Shades of Gray (not to be confused with Shades of Gray!) I also like nonfiction books about gardening and teaching gifted students.
