Hi. My name is Christi. I'm 55 years old and recently retired from my job. I've been on Spark for a few years, but now that I have more time I'm making a more concentrated effort to get healthy. I love to read and am currently into young adult fiction. I joined this team because I liked the monthly challenges you've had in the past and I would love to participate in the reading and discussions.

Be a blessing to others.

Hi everyone! As you can tell by my username I've been trying to change my bad habits since 2008. I'm on my way, using the tips I learned from previous attempts. I live in metro Detroit, married, have a son and his wife is on spark people too. I've been walking 2 miles 5 days a week and my goal is to be able to jog by October. I'm 58 so Larry ...you give me hope that I can still jog at my age. I have had foot problems but have orthodics so am finally able to walk without pain.

I love to read..just picked up I am Malala and am enjoying it already.

Hello there. My name is Susan. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA. Love to read and consider books 'treasures'. Have collected so many that I've run out of space in my tiny apartment. Must learn to read, enjoy and then pass on. This is my first ever book club.

Hi- I'm Sandra. This is my 60th day of joining SP. I'm from Canada, in my 50's, wife, mother of 4 and working as a pediatric RN. I've always wanted to be part of a book club and time was always a factor. I enjoy reading but some books are better enjoyed by sharing with others. I hope this team will stretch me to expand my reading.

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.

Hello.
I'm new to SparkPeople. I'll be turning 27 and I just got married to my highschool sweetheart in May, we've been together for 11 years. Now we are preparing out lives to start trying for a baby. We moved to another side of the country because of his job. So at the moment I'm kind of lacking a support and friends around me who understand me.
I'm have been a bookworm since I was a child. I enjoy everything from historical drama to fantasy novels. I hope I can get to know you guys, share some book ideas and discuss the magical world of books as we enjoy this weight loss journey.

Hi, I am Larry a new member who loves to read. I read mostly Kindle books checked out online from my local library through Overdrive and Amazon and it looks like I have been reading on average two books each week over the last 18 months. I have been on SparkPeople since March 2010. I had become a runner at age 62 through the Couch to 5K program and also reached my goal weight with the help of my Sparkfriends and my primary Spark Team. Last year I had to have spinal surgery and was bedridden for over two months and on pain meds for 3 months - I gained 20 pounds. My primary Spark Team also dissolved and I have been drifting since then. I am happy to have found your team and look forward to sharing reading interests with all of you!

New Member here! Today is a special day. Not only is it day one of the "new me" as I journey through weight loss on Sparkpeople - but I just got my copy of Harper Lee's, Go Set a Watchman! I am debating staying up tonight to read - I'll worry about sleep tomorrow! Just saying' "hi" everyone. Hope you had a great day!

My name is Latisha and I have been a Spark member since January. I love reading inspirational and spiritual books, but I will read other books as time permits. I thought it would be interesting and challenging to join this team to see if I could keep up with your book selections during the summer months. We'll see and I look forward to chatting with you in the near future.

Hello everyone. I'm Sherry and I have been in and out (mostly out, lately) for a couple of years here on SP. Anyway, I'm back again :) I really like this Book Club group and I'm looking forward to reading The Handmaid's Tale. I'm an elementary school librarian - so blessed to be around books year round. In the summer months I get to read what I want! Whooo!

Hello, all! I was looking at book club teams on SparkPeople, and I chose y'all because of your June Read. emoticon The Handmaid's Tale is one of my very favorites, and I can't wait to start re-reading it. I'm currently reading Life After Life by Kate Atkinson, and I'm kinda struggling with it. Anyway, looking forward to the great discussions that will inevitably sprout up in the wake of Atwood's best. Clare here and i enjoy reading all sorts of books. I've always loved reading and get lost in the stories. One of my pet hates is when a great book comes to the end.
I love reference books and love to learn new things.
I cannot wait to start reading June's book whatever it is.

emoticon Tammy! I love my kindle, too! I have about 5 books going at the same time and all in one place~lol! One thing I like to do to get my exercise in while I read is to listen to audiobooks. I take a walk and listen. If I am really into the story, it keeps me going longer! I'm also motivated to go the next day to continue the book. My library has them available for download and there is also a service to subscribe to called Audible Books (not sure this is the right name). Happy reading!

I have been on spark people for almost three months now and I am new to this team. I love to read. Reading is one of my favorite things to do. I have my kindle wherever I go. Some say I am addicted to it. But I have to fit exercise in my schedule. Trying to do that now.

I just joined the team, and am starting back on SP after about 6 months. I love to read. I have the Nook app on my iPad, and also iBooks. I've been an avid reader since I was a child. I'd be happy to reread Austen's "Sense & Sensibility". It's been a loooong time since I read it. I'm a very eclectic reader and have passed on my love to my children and grandchildren, who all read every day! Even the 4 year old (who is read to every day).

So glad to join this team,
Diane

Hello!
I just (re)joined Spark a few days ago, maybe this time it'll work.
I am a reading addict. Last year I read just over 90 books. I had planned to read more this year but probably will read less b/c I'm planning to replace alot of my reading time with getting my butt out walking!
I love women's fiction and that's mostly what I read, Kristin Hannah, Susan Mallery, Mark Kay Andrews, Sarah Jio, etc. I really like books set in the south for some reason, even though I've never been anywhere near the south (west coast girl here)
I have been married 10.5 years (together 20) and have 2 awesome Boston Terriers.

Belated emoticon to all of you!

Diane~I love James Patterson, too! I have listened to a the audio version of a lot of his books~they definitely keep my interest!

Brooke~I have done the same thing with trying to look up definitions in the real books, too~haha!

Jen~The challenge is listed here on our team page under Team Challenges. A lot of us are keeping track there :)

McGarrison28~I live in Oregon, too!

Tazd2008~You can find a lot of suggestions for books under the What are You Reading thread and also the Books Read thread which members actually rate books. We'd love to hear about what you're reading, too!

Alice~You sound like me with several books going at the same time~anywhere and everywhere!

Rufushexe~I love audiobooks, too! I can do 2 things at once that way :)

Burningthyme101~I try to read at least 2 classics a year.

Sandy~I haven't heard of Oyster books, but I LOVE my Kindle!

Cathys07~I LOVE the library, too! Our library has books that can be downloaded to e-readers, so it's a win-win :)

Ldotson7~I have the Outlander series downloaded, but it's still in my to-read pile. How do you like them? Glad you'll be joining in this month's book selection/discussion.

I read every day. I have a NOOK and it has been one of the best investments I have made in the last ten years. I read so much that sometimes I have to take a few days off because my eyes get too tired, but it's my way of getting to sleep at night. Right now I am on the most recent book in the Outlander series, I've really enjoyed those. Some of my favorite books in the last year have been Gone Girl, Midnight Crossing, Mercedes Man and these Outlander books. I'd love to be challenged to read things that I wouldn't normally read on my own. Sense and Sensibility is going to be right up my alley. So I'll start that right away.

Hello all,

I am so excited to be a part of this book club. I am an avid reader and I usually read history and true crime. It will be fun to read a classic. I will start the book tomorrow. I am pretty sure I can download it through Oyster books or Kindle.

I haven't been busy reading a series since Nancy Drew days now I'm into the Womans Murder Club by James Paterson which is another series. However I'd like to get into other types of books at the same time. Sense and Sensibility is a well written classic. I've read many of the classics before. Going to see how much I get out of the book this time. emoticon

Hello out there! I used to read all the time and have looked for local book clubs in my area but haven't found any. I just don't have the time to start one. I work as a caregiver and medication aid in Oregon. I want to lose 65 pounds by September but that being said I want to get myself back into reading. My favorite authors are Jodi Piccoult and Robyn Carr but looking to expand my reading adventures. happy reading emoticon

I'm Jen... There was a point in my life where I read a lot... I would like to get back there if not I would like to read a bit everyday. There is a reading challenge with pop sugar I printed out and would like to get started with... Even if I don't finish it in 2015, I would like to continue it for as long as it takes. Have a great day! Jen

I'm Brooke. I'm a librarian in Michigan and yes, I love to read! I switch between reading library books and books on my Kindle. This causes confusion sometimes; I'll be reading a regular book and touch the page, expecting a definition to pop up. This looks like a fun group and I'm looking forward to exploring it.

I will read anything and everything, but my favorite genres are horror and suspense. I have recently become enamored with James Patterson. He is a pretty amazing wordsmith. I've been looking for a book club in my area, but I never have a chance to get out and attend any meetings. This is perfect for me! I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi, everyone! I am new to the team. As strange as it sounds, I really love great children's books (must be the teacher in me!). I also love Agatha Christie, good historical romances (there aren't many that are well written), Nicolas Sparks, and John Grisham. A couple of my favorite books are Memoirs of a Geisha, A Wrinkle in Time, Curtain, and Between Shades of Gray (not to be confused with Shades of Gray!) I also like nonfiction books about gardening and teaching gifted students.

Hi, I'm Rachael. I love books that have some excitement to them while giving better insight into our relationship with God. I get pissed if they don't end happy though. (I mean what is the point of getting all caught up in a story just to have the main character die in some tragedy at the end?? Sheesh!) My favorite author is Karen Hancock, but, unfortunately I have read all her books...that will be one nice thing about losing memory as I get older - I can re-read them like they are new to me! Ha! I also like authors CS Lewis, Dee Henderson, Angela Hunt, Francine Rivers. I love fantasy stories but have a hard time finding ones that don't get so dark I feel like I need to scrub my mind after reading them - and I'm not okay with snakes - any good suggestions of not-overly-dark-or-snake-loving fantasy authors are very welcome! Looking forward to join in reading of books with this group!

-Rachael

I love love love my Kindle. I have so many to be read books that it isn't funny. But I thought I would share these websites for freebies. I get several emails a day with free or really reduced priced books. You can pick and choose which if any you want to download. There is no strings attached. And I am not soliciting for any of these sites just wanted to share my freebies with you all. The first one is Pixel of Ink www.pixelofink.com/ The second is A Cheap Romance. www.acheapromance.com the third is Bookbub landers.bookbub.com/covers/ and the last one is Booklemer www.booklemur.com/ Here is another one I found recently freebooksy.com/ all you have to do is put in your email address and then it will take you to a page that gives you options of what kind of books you like to read and then you are done. Free books will come to you. I have gotten so many that have been truly awesome. And just thought I would share.

Enjoy,
Kim
PS I am so not to blame if your TBR list is way out there. LOL

Welcome to the team, Kim. I have to confess, while I have a Kindle, I don't use it much. I'm more of a book person, but now that I have a "grown-up" phone and have several reading apps there, I tend to use that more.

Hi everyone! I am returning to SP after a long absence. I read almost exclusively fiction, but read just about every type of fiction out there, from trashy paranormal romances (my guilty pleasure) to the densest literary fiction. I'm looking forward to chatting about books while I get my health goals back on track. :)

Hi all! emoticon

I'm new to SP and this group. Trying to get a head start on the new year, and to get in shape before graduating and moving next summer.

I'm excited about the book list for January 2015, and looking forward to seeing which is selected by the group. I've been reading for school rather than for pleasure for some time now, and excited for a change.

Hi, team newbie here. I am an avid reader (who here isnt right?) and my favorite author is Val McDermid. I love horror, thrillers, suspense and true crime. Basically I will read anything except hard core science fiction. Lately I have been listening to a lot of audio books while I knit or crochet.

I look forward to getting to know everyone. Happy New Year

Hi everyone, my name is Jackie and I have been an avid reader all my life. I don't read as much as I used to but plan to change that going into 2015. Genres I read are mystery/thriller/suspense. I also read bestsellers that sometimes are not in my genres.

Hello. My name is Clara and I am a retired librarian. Being around books all the time was great but I had less time to read than when I entered the field ( a preconception that librarians get to read all the time is not necessary correct). Now that I am retired I read a lot.

Hi! My name is Jen, and I love to read, and look forward to reading with you.

I am just finishing The Giver Quartet by Lois Lowry. I had to read The Giver for the new book club that I was invited to, and I bought the book with all 4 books in it because I knew that I would want to read all of them, and it was only a few dollars more to get the whole series in one book.

I should finish the final book, Son, either tonight or tomorrow. When I went to the book club meeting I was in the middle of the third book, and it was so hard not to give away anything.

I look forward to the December book selection!

Thank you for the Welcome mat goodie Cheryl!

Hi all, I'm new to the team, but not new to sparkpeople. I gave birth a month ago and managed to lose the 20lbs I gained, as well as a couple more. Looking to keep going with my weight loss.

I'm a huge book reader, though I've not had a lot of time lately with a new baby lol. My favorite genre is horror, thrillers, paranormal. I mostly stay away from the over done romance stuff. Lol. I like books that make me think as well as are good reads. I'll admit I have a hard time getting into a book sometimes if it doesn't catch my interest right away. But I have a bookshelf full of books and a kindle full as well. Just can't bring myself to get rid of any!

Have an awesome day!

Welcome! I loved Duma Key.

As for working in a library, I think that would be great. I keep saying if I win the lottery, I will definitely donate a chunk to the town library, but I also want to build one of my very own.

Hi, I'm new here and I love to read! My hubbie even bought me an ipad so I can "pack" around a whole library and I'm never without my books! I like fiction mostly, things like Stephen King, Robert Jordan, and C.S. Lewis. I have read the Twilight series and Harry Potter series as well. When I find a book I absolutely love, I usually read it multiple times.

One of my absolute favorite Stephen King books is Duma Key. I highly recommend it!
Also, a really long series but very enjoyable one is The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. If you haven't read them you should. It took me until about chapter 5 or 6 to get hooked but once you do, you will be glad.

Hello all,

My name is Sandy and I am an avid reader. I too like to read several books at a time. I read the Bible daily but also read a book on my ebook reader and one hardback book at a time. Right now I am reading the Wizard of Oz with my client, Lady in the Tower by Alison Weir, and
Evil leaders in History at night.

Hi all! I'm new here in the last day or so. I love reading and hate it when life interferes with my book time. I will typically have 3 or 4 books going at a time... one actual book, at least one on my Nook and an audiobook. This way I am never without. :)

Hi there,
my name is Fran and I recently joined to SP. I found this team browsing through the site and I think it's simply marvellous. Right now I'm being forced to read some books on linguistics, as I have some finals coming up, and as a pleasant side to those I'm currently reading Leblanc's "The Countess of Cagliostro". I hope I'll find some time to read the book of the month. I usually love mystery and fantasy books, but can read almost anything.
I can't wait to receive suggestions on books from you all emoticon

Welcome, Bonnie. I have a feeling our bookshelves might be similar.

Welcome, Flutter. I've been trying to add books I am "supposed" to read into the rotation. I'm currently on Last of the Mohicans. I really liked it at first. But if I see or hear (I'm listening to it in the car and reading it at home) the word "countenance" one more time.... Let's just say that I'm more than 1/2 way through, but I have to force myself to keep going at this point.

Hey Everyone... I'm new to the team but was very excited to see it existed lol I love to read, but most of my reading consists of Chick Lit - Romance, Suspense type stuff. I'm not big into horror reads or medical dramas. I have been trying to read more sophisticated books (currently trying to work my way through David Copperfield) but feel like I'm back in school by trying to bring the material more modern.

Good morning :)
I am excited to join this group because I am a bookworm! I'm a teacher so reading for enjoyment during summer vaca is one of my favorite things to do. I've already read several books this summer...some of which I have finished in one day (I'm a binge reader). I read on my kindle and LOVE it though I still love paper copies the best. The kindle is just soo immediate...new book in under a minute. I've also made it a goal to go back to school slimmer than when I left. I've been trying to exercise regularly (cause I have PLENTY of time for it now) and eat right. I'm buckling down for this last stretch of summer. Slimmin down this summer :)

Hi Everyone.
I joined spark eight months ago. But I was too overwhelmed with the site to truly appreciate the book teams. Now that I've been sparking a while, I feel more comfortable with the team concept. I look forward to sharing the spark journey with fellow book-lovers.

Don't waste your time with "could've," "would've" or "should've." Focus on "can," "will," and "do."

Time will pass no matter what .... will I be closer to or farther from my goals

Its not that some people have willpower and some dont. Its that some people are ready to change and others are not. Finally, I am ready to change!

Hi everyone emoticon

I was a member here months ago and just now got back into reading. I missed the enjoyment and relaxation reading brings so I picked up my Nook yesterday and started a new book. I couldn't believe I read for hours! (and I'm a slow reader...lol) In my Nook library, there are just 4 books left to read but I'm hoping to add to it. I live in a small town and my library is very small and old. Once in awhile, I do drive to the next town over which is quite a bit larger and visit their library. Have a great day!

Hello everyone!
I am quite happy to have stumbled across this group! I am and have always been an avid reader! I never go anywhere without a book and often neglect doing housework to grab an extra few minutes on the coach with a good book.
I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Cheers!

Hi, all--

I am pleased to join your group! I love to read - almost as much as I like to eat! My name is Madeline, but most of my friends call me Madde. I live and work in Alexandria, Va. In between work, and school (almost have my bachelor's degree), I love going to the movies and concerts (any bands that play The Beatles works for me!

emoticon D'Ann, Becky and BZMOM5! We are so glad you've joined our team! There are so many avid readers here and you can find some ideas for good books on several of the threads. The "What are you reading" thread and the "Books Read in..." thread are full of titles of books and many people leave comments or descriptions, too. Be sure to let us know what you are reading, too!

The July book discussions are underway. Pick up a copy of one or both if you are interested and then just start posting any comments or questions. We are a pretty casual group and as far as I know, nobody has been blasted for sharing their opinions here.

If you have any questions or suggestions for our team, feel free to message any of the team leaders. We look forward to getting to know you all better!

Hi there everyone, My name is Becky I'm new here and I LOVE to read. I always have trouble figuring out what to read next and have been out of the reading game for awhile so to speak, lol. I've always wanted to be a member of a book club and there aren't any in my area. I'm so grateful for a virtual book club. I know it may sound silly. Thank you for creating this and for keeping it going. I'm anxious to get started reading with all of you. July book I'm ready for ya.
