Thu, 5 Aug 2010 08:11:17 EST Hello http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x9655x35805557 Hey guys, I was so intrigued by this team (was looking for a walking team) that I had to join. I love to travel but don't have the means right now, so this can be a great motivator until the bank account looks nicer and I've mentally changed scenery to my goal. Just have to pick the optimal geographical location first though, because the road there has to go through beautiful places too! In the last 10 years or more I've been reading a series of books by Laurie R. King that feature Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell. At least one of these includes a visit by Holmes back to Dartmoor in the company of Mary Russell to investigate a troubling series of events on the Moor. I am 59 years old and overweight. Well, truthfully I'm obese. I enjoy walking so much but there are days that my back hurts so much. I began this trip by scheduling some health screenings that I need to do to make sure I'm healthy. I scheduled a colonoscopy and had a mammogram today. I am going in for a bone density test on Monday and on the 3rd, I have my yearly checkup with my gynecologist. I am also going to get a blood test to check for an... I LOVE the idea of tracking my walking as if I were walking to some great destination. I have several good ideas of how I can do this, and a couple of them are inspired by my love of books written about people's cross-country travels. Would love to virtually walk from Ct to Rhode Island. What do I do? Do I go on Mapquest put in my starting point and ending point, find out how many miles and then just subtract each time I walk to see how far to go? Or is there a way to actually map out a walking route so if I walk 3 miles I'll know exactly where I am, virtually? Hope this makes sense, I really can't figure it out.
