Thu, 1 May 2014 07:34:10 EST Question about the low fat aspect A bit about me: I was vegetarian for 20 years, then "cooked" vegan for the last 5, and now a few weeks into being 100% raw vegan. I have already lost 5 kilos without ever starving myself and I really am feeling a difference. My question is, why does there seem to be an emphasis on the raw vegan diet needing to be low fat? There are some very healthy foods that contain pretty high concentrations of fat: avocados, seeds, coconut, etc, but these are good fats that are beneficial to our bodies.... I am a vegan and have been for over a year...I have just come home from the doctor who raised my chloresteral medicine stating that I was getting chloresteral from my diet. When I reminded her that I ate no meat, no dairy and no eggs, she was at a loss. Finally, we decided to try reducing fats (I only use olive and canola oils--but maybe too much) and starches. Now, does raw mean no cooked grains? No grains at all? As you can see, this is new to me and I need help. I lost 60 pounds as a... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 12:16:16 EST Very Inspirational Video. Sun, 15 Apr 2012 05:33:25 EST Are you feeling deprived? When we eat 80/10/10 we no longer fit smoothly with today's society. We eat as if we live in a beautiful garden, miles from any other food source. Just the fact that our food is not cooked (read denatured) separates us from the majority of the population. I'm just curious if team members have been raw vegans prior to needing to lose weight?.or if they are choosing to be(become) raw vegans as a way of losing weight?
I realize that too much of any food can cause weight gain...I just have a hard time imagining weight gain caused by too many raw veggies (I know that raw vegans eat more than raw veggies...).
Do you think raw veganism is a healthier, more sustainable food choice or just another "fad diet?"
Thanks for your though... Sun, 19 Sep 2010 00:41:22 EST Hi! Im new :) Hi everyone.
I just joint this team, as I am interested in raw food.
I am currently vegetarian, but planning to become vegan next year, and love raw food.
Looking forward to stuff going on in this team!
Thu, 16 Sep 2010 14:29:58 EST I need any advice I recently went to a bariatric dr. Their recommendation is 1200 calories/day. I shared with the nutritionist that I like to eat raw vegan and she supported it. I mentioned that when I usually put in my food intake to "sparkpeople" I get too many fats. She seemed ok with that because they were healthy fats. I still don't think it's right to get almost 1/2 my calorie intake from fats. I HAVE TROUBLE GETTING ENOUGH CALORIES IF I DON'T EAT ALOT OF FATS!!!! I need meal ideas that are lower ... Wed, 1 Sep 2010 03:35:30 EST New Leader, new ideas with your help Hi, I saw the notice that spark was looking for a new leader and I replied for this team. My name is debby aka devora4. I feel that I am qualified to lead this team because I have been a vegetatian for close to 20 years and am also doing 75 per cent of my diet with raw food. I read everything I can about vegans and have lost 30 pounds with Spark and my veggies and fruits.

I have for the past month done at least one green smoothie a day and although I was concerned about the tast... Mon, 30 Aug 2010 03:29:14 EST Neophyte to the low fat raw lifestyle I've been poking around at raw foods for a few months now, and I'm just now learning about low fat raw. I was making raw gourmet dishes a la Ani Phyo, but all the work made it hard to stick to. I was also dubious about the amount of oil & nuts she uses. (for good reason, it seems!) I'm back on the raw train, eating about 90% raw, and trying to keep it simple.

My biggest challenge is my boyfriend - he gets bored with simple foods. (I could seriously eat salads & fruit all the time) ... Tue, 24 Aug 2010 15:02:48 EST Green Smoothie Challenge Hey Everyone!

I'm trying keep myself on track and keep this group engaged. This is my last effort to lower genetically high cholesterol before going on a statin, and also keep digestion functioning like a well oiled machine so to speak. I have been doing at least 75% raw for about 2 months but just started 80 10 10. (I have been eating too many nuts and avocado...yumm) I have honestly felt fabulous! Lots of energy without the need for coffee in morning. What a change for me. Have not become a total vegan but I eat no an... Mon, 12 Jul 2010 23:41:22 EST Day one of the 80/10/10 diet, take two Today is the first day of my second attempt at the 80/10/10 diet. The first try failed with a weakness brought on by emotion and cheese pizza. I am hopeful to be able to get back to this lifestyle as I felt simply amazing the first time. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and hopefully be able to get some strength from your experiences. 213 Mon, 5 Jul 2010 19:10:03 EST Hi All! Well my name is Stephanie. I live in a small town in Central IL. I've been looking into raw foods for about two years now, but we've had an on-off relationship (mostly off). I'm ready to make the change though and I have a friend who is a huge advocate of the 80-10-10 lifestyle. So I'm going to give it a try.
I look forward to getting to know you and supporting each other on our journey. Wed, 28 Apr 2010 00:14:16 EST Starting 80 10 10 Raw Vegan Today Hello All,
I am glad I found this SparkTeam today. How coincidental since I'm starting the 80/10/10 Diet today. I am not new to raw, every now and again I go raw for a few days or a week at a time. Last year in March I managed a complete 30 days. I really didn't have a desire to be completely raw. I"m still not sure if that is what I am striving for this time. I have been vegan for about 2 & a half years which seems to work fine for me, but I don't always get a substantial amount of frui... Sat, 20 Mar 2010 23:39:17 EST Today I began the 80/10/10 Plan I just now had my first meal. I threw some water, 3 peaches, and 4 bananas into my VitaMix and got very, very full after drinking the approximate 700 calorie breakfast. Well, I'm just beginning, so I don't know what I'm doing.

Trying to follow suggest menus from the book, I run into problems not having all the items or not being able to use some of them because the fruit isn't yet ripe. Mon, 22 Feb 2010 21:58:07 EST Hi and question to all Hello everyone and happy New Year! Hope all your resolutions will come true :)
I had been on raw food since last June until November. I felt more energy, lost 20lbs, and got rid of constant colds and flues that plagued me all my life. About 4 months into raw vegan eating, my weight loss stopped and I started experiencing prolonged and irregular menstrual periods. That really scared me. After couple of month I went off the wagon. My periods became more regular but i feel worse otherwise t... Sun, 3 Jan 2010 16:54:51 EST Newbie questions. I got The 80/10/10 Diet book and I totally think it's great. It seems perfect for my lifestyle and I'm ready to jump in and eat but first I have some questions:

I only need about 1,400 calories per day to maintain weight but I'm trying to lose weight. So, when doing the 811 diet, would I eat that many, add some or subtract some (like SP recommends)?

Also, these are obviously huge amounts of foods.
