I know the experts say it takes multiple times to be successful for some people. I guess that's me. This time I'm quitting for MYSELF!!! But I'm very afraid I don't have enough motivation to stick it out. I live alone and there is no one to give that in-the-moment support I may need. I feel weak. Give me courage!!! I've seen posts where people talk about doing a ton of research or posts of people who don't know where to begin. I'm no expert, but I've done my share of research and experimenting over the last six months and would be happy to share my findings. I know there are forums outside of SparkPeople that cover this, but... I've been tracking, exercising, blah, blah. So sad. Another bag full of clothes that don't fit....that's 4 so far this summer alone. This is torture. And its not even the smoking that I miss so much anymore, its the fact that I didn't gain almost everything back that I had originally lost in this 3 year journey. This is day 3. I don't really crave one so far today. I mowed my parents yard and burned like 500 calories. It was really high and really tough to do. I am proud of myself for sticking it out. I have also done well the last few days with my calories. I haven't done great with fat and such, but it's okay. Each day is a new day, each step is a new step. I am doing this! I am using the patch but wanted to use Chantix, however my insurance doesn't cover it and I don't have $200 a month to get it. So the patch directions say to find a support group. Which I thought nooo, I don't need one. See I am pretty quiet and shy and don't say much till I get to observe and know people. So last night I told my son that tomorrow I am quitting, he is happy. The first was disturbing, because I had a smoke (in my dream) to deal with a stressful situation (also in my dream) and in my dream it actually did make me feel better. This was NOT a good dream for me because that is one of the things I have done over the years - used cigarettes to deal with stressful situations. This was very early on after only quitting for a few days.

Last night's dream was much ... I have a Vamo V2 which is a personal vapor mod unit. It looks nothing like cigarette and kinda like a small flashlight. I mix my own nic juice and use a variety of tanks including the ce4's, vivi nova's and the dct's. I would never recommend an e-cig to a non smoker, but for someone who smokes, this is a safer alternative to inhaling carcinogens and goodness knows what else. Add to that that smoking is becoming an increasingly expensive habit, and here I am. I've tried to quit in the past and run into several roadblocks that I'm hoping to avoid. Getting used to new habits and the patches was difficult. Smokers at work kept trying to bum cigarettes from me. I am not sure they were testing me or I happened to be walking through the designated smoking area on my way to my office. One other person stated that they will quit too. Son attempted suicide, diagnosed bipolar 1 can't work, my income is not enough to struggle by and I have a deep seeded belief that I cannot possisibly actually lose this last 30ish pounds and be a normal weight. I smoked for about 25 years, minus one. When I quit then went back to smoking. The first four weeks was hard core. I gained 10 lbs in 31 days, but I DID NOT SMOKE. Then on September 1st, I decided to not gain any more. I set a goal last year to to quit in 2011 because I did not want to be a smoker by the time I was 30. I did well! I lasted 7 months and took a trip to Vegas and had a great weekend and couldn't resist the temptation. Before I quit the first time, I smoked a pack every two days. Now, I am at a pack a week, but I want to stop completely. What's the use of trying to lose weight and be healthy if I am just going to smoke! Doesn't make sense! I use mine to mark the days since I quit smoking. I love looking at it. It's very motivating. The idea that I might mess it up and smoke, NOOOO!!!! It's more motivating at this time in my life than weight loss. I feel myself getting better with each day that passes and I don't smoke. 270 Tue, 11 Sep 2012 12:50:24 EST Hello, newbie here http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x758x49879548 Hey group support. It drives me crazy but using the patch seems the most effective method to keep me from smoking for now, until I get past cravings. I put cream on before putting on the patch sometimes, but waiting for my skin to dry is too time consuming. The patch hasn't come off at home when I shower, but it does if I work out and then shower at the gym. Water seems to help the itch go away. Does the skin irritation bother anyone else? I struggled with the thought of quitting smoking. Well, I would think, cancer got her anyways so why should I quit? But, I'm glad I did now. It's so wonderful not to smell like an ashtray.
