SparkPeople Southern Ohio Medical Center Team Messageboard SOMC employees committed to achieving and sustaining personal health and fitness results. SparkPeople Southern Ohio Medical Center Team Messageboard New Member Hello. My name is Angie and I've been a medical transcriptionist at SOMC since 2002. I've only just started my weight loss journey but hopefully by this time next year I'll be about 65 pounds thinner. I need all the help and motivation I can get. : ) Tue, 18 Jun 2013 11:09:36 EST SP or myfitnesspal: which do you prefer? I prefer myfitnesspal for tracking calories. It's quicker and more user friendly IMHO. SP wins win it comes to motivational stories, Informative articles, and exercise demonstration. Sat, 16 Feb 2013 08:57:18 EST excuses It hurts! No time! I'm busy!

The hurt feels good~ We make time for what's important :) I'm slowly learning this. Thu, 24 Jan 2013 10:37:43 EST What are some successful travel strategies? Pack your exercise clothes. Fri, 18 Jan 2013 10:23:58 EST Hi I am using this to help me get healthier and lose weight. I have tried a lot of different plans and so far no success. Hope this works!!! Wed, 17 Oct 2012 22:49:44 EST Lose and Win program Is anyone doing this program? I'm in the Wednesday 6am group at the Portsmouth LIFE Center.I hope we can learn from the education and from each other. I'm back at logging food, it helps keep me accountable. I can justify overeating with the best of them, but I need to get serious to take off at least 12 lbs. Mon, 17 Sep 2012 08:53:20 EST this happened to me...... (caffeine and exercise)
s_articles.asp?id=689 Fri, 20 Apr 2012 13:01:57 EST what to do when..... ok so I have a case of sciatica going on here that I seem to have aggravated from biking....what do I do about my exercixe? I will take all suggestions at this point!

Now i will tell you what i did. NO exercise for 3 days then I went back to elliptical and bike with decreased exertion and have just down upper body weight training but it still hasnt "cooled off". (and yes I did some NSAIDS, gentle stretching, and heat and ice) Tue, 3 Apr 2012 06:40:00 EST SparkPeople Article I was reading this article today

s_articles.asp?id=651

and it really resonated with me. Sleep is one place where I think so many of us tend to cut corners. I know I do. If I get 6+ hours of sleep I feel like I have accomplished something. So many times I am busy until 9:00 at night. Usually I am so wound up at that point that it takes a while for me to get sleepy. My hubby and I will watch television from 9:0... Thu, 15 Mar 2012 08:21:33 EST SOMC Triathlon In an earlier post, Vicki mentioned that she was going to participate in the first annual SOMC triathlon. I have to say that I am so excited for this event! Is anyone else planning on participating? If you have never done a triathlon, this is the perfect event to cut your teeth on! There will also be a relay category if you only want to do one portion and you can coerce some friends into doing it with you! Tue, 6 Mar 2012 12:07:41 EST Hi! I'm Jason, trying to stay fit........and I need a running buddy. Some who can already or willing to work toward anywhere from 3-10miles at a time. Mon, 5 Mar 2012 23:08:44 EST Tracking strength training How do you log strength training on SP? I have the exercises on "my fitness", but it does not give me points or minutes for the exercises. What am I doing wrong? Tue, 28 Feb 2012 07:53:27 EST Couch to 5K Ok...I have committed to complete the running portion of SOMC's Triathalon in August. Once of the members of my team asked if I run....uh, no. But for me, I need a goal and running a 5K is truly a big hairy audacious goal for me.
Today I began my journey using the Couch to 5K iPhone app as my workout tool. It was harder than I thought...but I completed it.
Are there any other SOMC folks out there going to participate in SOMC's "Tri for your LIFE" on August 12th? Sun, 26 Feb 2012 17:29:58 EST Motivation vs. Habit Hope this link can be accessed. If not, the statement is "Motivation is what gets you started, Habit is what keeps you going."

Several months back my friend and I were running, but complaining that we were not "motivated" to eat healthy. We both admitted we were waiting on the "certain feeling" to come to get us on the right track. You know the feeling? We also admitted this was essentially faulty thinking. We just needed to behave differently whether we felt like it or not. T... Sun, 26 Feb 2012 12:49:44 EST David Richards Success Story (unedited) David was gracious enough to write down his story for this month's Wellness Newsletter. Tue, 7 Feb 2012 14:23:33 EST Your internal voice.... I don't know about anyone else, but there are times when I have to *make* myself workout. I strive to do cardio 6 days a week for an hour, but there are times when I just don't feel like it. I have found a few ways to 'talk' myself into my workout or sometimes sticking it out a little longer when I feel like quitting. Don't get me wrong, when I am sick or my body just needs a break, I take it. But sometimes it is my mind that is the problem, not my body! Here are some of the things I 'sa... Tue, 7 Feb 2012 13:03:19 EST Challenges Women Face So another blog has spoken....this time it is a topic that I selected and one that I reflect on quite often. Having it all....or not.

Do you think as females we can "have it all"?
What does having it all mean to you?
Wed, 1 Feb 2012 22:24:33 EST The things we do I'm doing laundry this evening and I have to "time" when to take certain pants out of the dryer to avoid too much "shrinkage" If I were at my normal BMI, my pants would fit properly. I wouldn't be uncomfortable sitting all day. I wouldn't have to time my laundry. I wouldn't have to consider what to wear, because ALL my clothes would fit. These things are ridiculous but can be motivating if you consider the effort we make to accomodate an unhealthy weight. . Don't beat yourself up, but,wh... Many of you know that I am intense and driven. I also have an "all or nothing" mindset that I struggle with.

I am really working hard to adjust my thinking. Here are some things that help me. Maybe these will help you also.

•This is a marathon not a sprint
•Measuring your portions is important, and tracking your food helps you on your journey
•Working out needs to be consistent
•Yo... Sun, 22 Jan 2012 09:43:15 EST Interesting Observation I had an interesting observation while working a concession stand at the biddy league basketball games over the weekend.

At the end of my 5 hour shift, we sold twice as much water as soda (regular and diet) and sports drinks. Sat, 2 Jan 2010 11:50:05 EST New Class Recommendations for the LIfe Center Not sure if they are taking any suggestion for new classes in 2010, but I suggest "Yoguy" - a yoga class geared toward men, maybe eventually including some of the P90 yoga moves and other moves more appealing to men. When Julie taught the Saturday morning spinning and yoga classes back to back several guys would stay for the yoga class, with the new year maybe more guys (like I did back in January) try yoga if they felt one of the yoga classes a week was geared toward men.
