SparkPeople Lawyers Team Messageboard Greetings Counselors! Welcome to Spark People! This is a group for any member of the legal profession. We welcome court employees and paralegals as well. SparkPeople Lawyers Team Messageboard Yes, I'm new too. Day 4 of my 455 day journey Good morning. My name is Anne and I have been on Sparkpeople for 4 days. I have been "overweight" since I was a child. I have tried Atkins, South Beach diet and Weight Watchers, but couldn't stick with the plans.

I've been an attorney since 2007. This was my 4th career in my life. I went back to college in my late 30s, early 40s. Yes, I turned 40 during Law School. No, I didn't celebrate because it was two weeks before finals.

I will be turning 50 next year, and ... Thu, 18 Jul 2013 08:29:05 EST Check in 6/21 Good morning team!

Busy day today. Playing hooky from the office to take the girls to the pool. It's cloudy out now, but should clear up soon. Working a fundraiser for Rotary for a few hours this evening. Then DH and I will play cards this evening.

I got a walk in this morning and am contemplating some strength training before we leave for the pool. Weight is trying to creep down a little from my vacation gain.

Everyone have a great day!
Fri, 21 Jun 2013 11:31:51 EST Check in 6/18 Good morning team!
Had planned to get up for a run this morning, but was too sleepy. Was up with my daughter for a while last night. She fell off the bed and was crying about her wrist. Was really on the fence about taking her to the ER, but she calmed down and seems to be ok this morning. Must just be a sprain.
Had a good food day yesterday and did a 55 minutes body pump dvd. Scale was down a little so hopefully this vacation weight comes off quickly.
Have several short a... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 09:08:02 EST Check in 6/17 Good morning ladies!!

I'll spare you the long version, but I've been out of town. 3 road trips (one of them 2100 miles round trip!) in 2 weeks. I'm so ready to get back to a routine. The girls are out of school so I always find myself staying up later and sleeping later. I'm way behind on my 1000 minutes of exercise for the month. Not exercising regularly and food/beverage splurges have my weight up 5 lbs!! Will get that in check quickly before it turns into any more.
... Mon, 17 Jun 2013 08:31:10 EST Check in 6/12 I have to travel this week, which is trouble for my health goals. I love to try new restaurants, and I am not a fan of hotel fitness rooms. I'm interested in the team's ideas for keeping with the program while on the road. How do you do it? Wed, 12 Jun 2013 12:26:39 EST Check in 6/1 Morning ladies!

I ran 3 miles this morning and now am doing laundry and getting ready to leave town tomorrow. I'm going to be out of town a lot over the next two weeks so you guys just keep on checking in and encouraging each other.

Sat, 1 Jun 2013 11:58:08 EST Check in 5/20 OOPS! That should be 5/31!!

Good morning team!!

I had a big day in court yesterday. I truly don't remember another time in almost 9 years when things went more my way. I am going to be walking on air for a week! I had literally said, "I have a fantasy that x happens." And it did! Of course, we had good facts, but a few bad ones too. And since we finished yesterday (had planned on going today too) I get to go to the girls last day of school party!

I have... Fri, 31 May 2013 06:51:03 EST Check In 5/30 Hi team!

I walked during my lunch yesterday (finally got in some exercise in after 3 solid weeks of a nasty cold) and spent the evening shopping. I had to buy some new clothes. My old ones were horrible.

I hate shopping. I've been watching everything I've eaten meticulously since January 1st. I've lost 9 pounds. Big deal. I still have good 50 to go. I was mortified grabbing XL's and having them not fit. I hated seeing myself in the changing room mirrors. It was a nightma... Thu, 30 May 2013 10:17:47 EST Check in 5/29 Morning, team!

My cold is FINALLY gone. Holy moly- what a nightmare.

I won my first unemployment hearing yesterday. That's the second case I've handled alone- I'm batting 1000. I hope I can keep up this winning streak. Should be a decently slow day at the office today.

I think I may be down another pound. It's so hard to tell because my weight fluctuates so easily. I'm really close to getting to the 170's- I've been hovering around 181 for a few weeks now. The... Wed, 29 May 2013 09:47:45 EST Check in 5/28 Good morning team!

Hope everyone had a great long weekend! Hope you all got some activity in and didn't go too crazy on BBQ!

Saturday I slept what felt like all day. Think work stress may be effecting me more than I realize. Sunday I did house work and exercised all day because I felt bad for all the sleeping I did on Saturday! My girls had to go to school yesterday, so I just came on to the office and worked a few hours. Did some work in the yard yesterday evening a... Tue, 28 May 2013 09:12:51 EST Check in 5/24 Good morning ladies!

Had a great day with nutrition yesterday. After dinner did a 55 minute weight training workout. This morning is off to a good start with a 3 mile run and a healthy breakfast. Tonight is poker night so I will have to take it easy on the beer.

My custody trial starts on Thursday so I'm working on getting everything together for that. My client is out of town so I have like a hundred emails full of stories that I have to try to get in some sort of... Fri, 24 May 2013 09:09:27 EST Check in 5/23 Good morning team!

Ran 3.3 miles yesterday evening in the 88 degree heat! Yuck! That should be a pretty good motivator to get me out early in the morning while it is still cool. I over-indulged again yesterday at lunch, but had a light dinner. Going to focus on drinking my water and eating my fruits/veggies today.

Where is everyone!? Thu, 23 May 2013 09:41:17 EST Check In 5/22 Hi Team!

Spent another night up coughing. I got very little sleep. I anticipate a very slow day at the office. Sorry that my check-ins have been so negative, team! Hoping I heal soon :)

Have a happy Wednesday! Wed, 22 May 2013 09:40:54 EST Hi! Hey everyone! I just heard about Spark People today from a fellow lawyer. I remarked to her how good she looked and how it seemed that she had lost a lot of weight. She pulled me into a conference room at our Law Enforcement Center and told me that she had done it with Spark People. I hope it works for me as well as it did for her. Hoping I can figure out how to get everything under control despite the incredible pressure that comes with our profession ( and the rest of life). Tue, 21 May 2013 21:08:20 EST Check In 5/21 Hi team!

Well, I've had a heck of a weekend. I caught a nasty cold that really knocked me out. I didn't go to work Thursday afternoon or Friday. I had a meeting all day yesterday and I was hacking up a lung. I'm feeling a bit better today but man, that was not fun.

That medicine was getting to be too much, so I decided to only take 1 pill/day- 2 if I'm feeling really good. I still am getting the side effects with just the small dose.

I may have lost a pound o... Tue, 21 May 2013 09:51:50 EST Check in 5/20 Good morning team!

My weekend was good. I was really behind on house work, so I spent most of yesterday cleaning house. Swam on Saturday and weight training yesterday. Up a little later than usual today. DH had the day off and took the girls to school. He rarely does that so it was nice. Think I'll go for a run this evening. Will focus on eating better this week as I've been eating more sweets than I should. I have some discovery due today, so I guess I better get my booty ... Mon, 20 May 2013 09:49:29 EST Check in 5/17 Good morning ladies!

Didn't get to bed until late, at the courthouse until after 8 :/ So I didn't workout this morning. After the last 6 days of alternating weights and running, I may just have a rest day. Haven't been following my 80/20 rule for healthy to unhealthy food lately. Probably closer to 50/50. Need to get that back into check.

Two weeks until my custody trial. Ready for this to be done! Fri, 17 May 2013 11:31:06 EST Check In 5/16 Good morning ladies,

I was so excited to see that there are a couple more people checking in!

Sandy Toes - I'm in Florida as well, in the Jacksonville area. I'm assuming you are a family lw attorney?

SMCBELLE - nice to see you here!

Mandy - you keep going girl! You are absolutely amazing.

Lisa - I hope you feel better. I know how miserable it can be. I'm not feeling as bad this morning, but I do feel bad knowing you feel bad.
<B... Thu, 16 May 2013 06:32:38 EST Check in 5/15 Good morning team. Was up for a couple hours last night thinking about my custody trial. So when the alarm went of at 4:45 for strength training, I reset it for an hour later and went back to sleep. Will have to do it this evening. Ran on the treadmill last night. Did some fast intervals and the sweat was pouring. Felt great!

Food has been pretty good lately. I need to get some eggs made for breakfast. Haven't been getting enough protein there the last few days.

... Wed, 15 May 2013 09:36:12 EST Hi All!! New to the team and wanted to say hi. I hope you are all having a great week. Excited to see a lawyer group. I have been practicing for 3 years and am currently practicing. Tue, 14 May 2013 22:24:24 EST Check in 5/14 Good morning team.
I didn't get up early this morning. Will have to get my run in this evening. Have a busy day. Hoping the school doesn't call for me to come get my kid. She will go long spells without coughing and then cough her head off. She's not running fever though. Guess we will see how it goes. Only had a banana for breakfast this morning and have a lunch meeting at a restaurant. Perfect recipe for overeating at lunch.

Bobbi - Glad to hear work is going well.... Tue, 14 May 2013 09:31:39 EST Check in 5/13 Good morning, ladies.

Got up early and just finished a 45 minute Pump dvd. It was really challenging and fun. Had a good weekend. Did a shrimp boil here at my house on Sunday to celebrate mother's day. It was nice. Emma is sick. Been coughing and running fever all weekend. DH can't take off today because of state testing, so I'll be getting her to the doctor. Not really a good time for me to be out of the office, but I gotta do it.

Lisa - Thinking about you and... Mon, 13 May 2013 07:07:28 EST Check In 5/13 Good morning ladies,

Happy belated Mother's Day to you, Mandy!

I hope you both had a nice weekend. We headed to Tampa to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom and mother-in-law. We cooked dinner for my mom Saturday night - spaghetti with homemade sauce, Caesar salad, and bananas foster for dessert (all her favorite).

I made the best quiche for breakfast this week - cheddar cheese, ham, and onion. It's going to help me stay on plan. Also, we are continuing o... Mon, 13 May 2013 06:59:10 EST Check in 5/10 Good morning!

I got my Les Mills Pump set yesterday and did a short workout last night. I am going to love it! I already do! Was feeling a little lazy this morning, so I just walked on the treadmill and added some incline to get my heart rate up.

I'm determined to not let work stress me out today. It's Friday and that means poker night with DH. Woot!! I also have black bean quesadillas on the menu for tonight which are one of my favorites.

Lisa ... Fri, 10 May 2013 09:52:42 EST Check In 5/9 Morning team!

Mandy, hope you're able to clear some items off your desk and tackle that big case you've been working on.

Bobbi, glad to see you're back. What matters most is that you keep trying. You have a lot going on. Give yourself credit for coming back.

I planned on cleaning yesterday but the medicine I'm taking is kicking my butt. I wound up curling over in pain the whole night and went to bed early. I almost left work yesterday I felt so horrible. I hav... Thu, 9 May 2013 09:47:46 EST Check in 5/8 Good morning!

I got up early to go outside for a run, but when I could hear the wind blowing from inside, I decided to do a dvd instead. I'm having a hard time concentrating on anything except for my custody trial at the end of the month. I did go buy 6 lbs of shrimp for a shrimp boil we are doing at my house on Sunday. That will be nice.

Lisa - I remember the first time I did C25K. Before a new workout, I would think, "No way!" and end with, "That wasn't so bad!" ... Wed, 8 May 2013 07:06:48 EST Check In 5/7 Mandy, Good to see you can blow off steam by working out! How has the weather been by you? Were you able to run outside? Did you wind up joining either of the two clubs you were thinking about. I hope you have a happy day!

Finished up week 3 workout 3 on my C25K program this morning. Next time is week 4, workout 1. I have to run for 5 minutes straight. I don't know if I'm ready.

Yesterday I went out to dinner. It was nice. I ate half a hamburger patty with blue cheese, s... Tue, 7 May 2013 09:51:01 EST Check In 5/6 It was a busy weekend. I was so exhausted yesterday after a baby shower and my step dad's 60th surprise party, I fell asleep on the couch and didn't make it to the grocery store. Hence the reason I ate two string cheeses for breakfast.

I did my C25K training yesterday and ran 3 minutes at 4.2 mph. For being 5'2 with short legs after just 3 weeks of training, I was pretty proud of myself. This morning I was too tired to run so I just walked for 20 minutes.

I've been eatin... Mon, 6 May 2013 09:55:52 EST Check In 5/3 Good morning ladies,

It's hard to believe that we've been checking in since January! I'm so glad I have both of you as friends :)

I'm sorry for being MIA this week. Without the ability to use the internet at work (I'm on for a few minutes a few times a day to check my personal email, but that's it), it's difficult for me to update. I will most likely be updating in the mornings during breakfast.

So, I was eating very well this week until I ran out of my egg... Fri, 3 May 2013 07:10:53 EST Check In 5/2 Got up early enough to do my C25K training. Today was the first day I ran for 3 minutes straight. I was impressed I could even do it. How we surprise ourselves! Nutrition has been spot on. I'm bored, but I'm doing it.

I got on the scale this morning and the ~2-3 pounds that I think I lost since February came right back on. I know people say they gain weight when they get their period. Maybe it's the same case for me when or after I ovulate. Either way- I'm angry about it. I know, I... Thu, 2 May 2013 09:55:01 EST Check in 5/1 Morning all!

Got my C25K workout in this morning. Should be a slow day at the office.

I tried Dreamfield low carb pasta last night with low carb 4 cheese pasta sauce. I definitely needed the change of pace. It didn't completely kick me out of ketosis like I thought it would, but the color is usually a deep purple and now it's a solid pink. No big deal.

I was put in contact with someone on Sparkpeople who has a similar story to mine! Not like I want anyone to ... Wed, 1 May 2013 09:52:31 EST Check in 4/30 Good morning team!

Missed checking in yesterday. Had a super busy day and then went to an Altrusa recruitment dinner. Still on the fence about joining. Ran yesterday morning and nutrition was good. Really trying to focus on getting my water in because I've not been "going" like I should. Just in case you were interested in my bathroom problems :D

Lisa - I like your goal. Starting out too high is always a recipe for disaster. Tue, 30 Apr 2013 09:12:06 EST Check In 4/29 Hi Team!

Sporty- Good for you! Running while studying for the bar sounds like a great idea. You have to give yourself a way to relieve stress (as Mandi said) and it's also nice to exercise when you're living a sedentary lifestyle studying for the bar. Sounds like you're on a roll. Good luck with exams.

Mandi- Hope you had a happy weekend! I took your advice. My ticker is now a fitness minutes ticker. I'm taking it kind of slow so I set a goal of 600 minutes per month- th... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 10:22:19 EST Check in 4/28 I took a break from Spark while I was finishing my last set of law school exams and then celebrating in the after math. Now I am recommitted and training for a 10K run while studying for the bar exam. Sun, 28 Apr 2013 07:25:37 EST $$$$ - It's Taboo But Let's Talk If you were a sole practitioner who billed $175-250/hr, and your business required part-time help, what would be an appropriate amount to offer a junior level associate to work on an hourly basis? (Mainly to help you with research and drafting motions/briefs)?

Would your answer change if the associate graduated from a top 25 law school? Fri, 26 Apr 2013 11:33:17 EST Check in 4/26 Good morning ladies!

Haven't exercised yet today. Not sure what I'll do, might take the day off. I only have 122 minutes left to meet my goal for the month, so I can take today off and still be able to make it. This morning was "Breakfast with Mom" day at the girls' school. They were super excited to have me there eating with them. They are also walking laps during PE today to meet a 300 mile goal for Child Abuse Awareness month. The parents are all invited to walk too, so I ... Fri, 26 Apr 2013 10:03:26 EST Check In 4/26 Happy Friday!

Yesterday's event was exhausting. My feet are killing me from my high heels and I have a mysterious bruise on my right side. I didn't drink an ounce of alcohol and although I was tempted with all sorts of delicious appetizers, I stuck to low-carb through and through.

Afterwards, a girlfriend of mine and I grabbed dinner. It was good to catch up with her and reflect upon the event. I wound up getting home at around 11:30 (which is way too late for me on a we... Fri, 26 Apr 2013 09:54:33 EST Check in 4/25 Bobbi - There probably isn't any damage that you can do at the office that can't be fixed. Someone told me that one time when I was working at a law office and it really helped me feel better.

Lisa - I set an "exercise minutes" goal each month to keep me motivated. I don't like setting a goal and not hitting it. I hope that they start giving you more responsibility at the office so that you can have a chance to shine!

I did go for my run yesterday evenin... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 09:46:40 EST Hello! Hello All,
My name is Jenna, and I am so very happy to say that I will be attending my last law school class ever on Friday morning. In celebration of graduation and wanting to feel better for myself now that I will have some more time (not! the Bar is just around the corner....ugh) I am going to try this get healthy thing again. Spark was very helpful to me last summer when I took the time to stay active so here I am again. I look forward to getting to know all of you!
Have a wonde... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 04:39:11 EST Check in 4/24 Good morning team. Didn't wake up early for cardio this morning. Will do something this evening instead. Did my strength training last night. I really prefer to get my exercise out of the way first thing in the morning, but it is nice to know that I can squeeze it in in the evening if need be. It is supposed to be nicer today, maybe I'll go for a run in the neighborhood.

Really kept my head down and busy at the office yesterday. Have already gotten a good start this morning... Wed, 24 Apr 2013 09:43:12 EST Check In 4/23 Good morning, all!

Wow, yesterday was crazy chaotic at my new job. I was thrown into work as if I had worked there for 10 years and knew everything there is to know about family law. As I was telling Lisa last night, I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and wondering if I made the right decision. I realize I need to give it time, and I think I'm questioning my decision because I'm so out of my element right now. So I'm not worrying about it and just going with the flow.

I ... Tue, 23 Apr 2013 06:51:33 EST Check In 4/22 Good morning, team! I hope you both had a nice weekend. Saturday was "International Bob Saturday" (my previous co-workers all called me Bob), which was basically a "Bob voyage" party since I'm starting a new job. We started the day with outlet mall shopping where I got bunch of new work clothes, and then the dinner afterwards. It was really the perfect night and I had so much fun. Then yesterday we went to a shrimp boil at our old neighbors' house. It was good to see them.

I... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 07:24:08 EST Check in 4/22 Good morning team!

Weight is up this morning. Will focus on drinking plenty of water today. Ran 2 miles on the treadmill. Feeling really tired.

The high is supposed to be 77 here today and 46 tomorrow!! UGH!

Everyone have a great day!
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 07:12:17 EST Check in 4/19 Good morning team!

TGIF! Looks like we are going to skip our Friday night card game. I've got a lot going on tomorrow. My desk looks like someone vomited paper, files, and books all over it. I need to get it cleaned and organized today. Maybe all this work will feel a little less overwhelming.

Well, I'm going to go ahead and post this because I keep getting distracted.... Fri, 19 Apr 2013 09:42:21 EST Check In 4/18 Hi team:

Ok, you guys will get a kick out of this.

My company leases a space. The owner died. The lease was assigned via a Trust. The lawyer who represented the assignee called me. I immediately looked over our lease and called the phone numbers listed to see what the deal was. The lease is old. All of the numbers are out of service.

So this lawyer wants us to cut him a check that day. I get a bad feeling about him. I told someone in accounting I just didn't t... Thu, 18 Apr 2013 14:40:53 EST Check In 4/17 Hi Team! Happy Wednesday.

Went to a board meeting at my old high school last night. I'm trying to be more involved and also use these opportunities to network. This is especially true if I'm going to supplement my income as an independent contractor- I just don't know where to start marketing myself.

I'm on Week 2 Day 1 of my C25K. Feeling less out of shape than I did last week. That's a good sign! I plan on doing Insanity later tonight. I may only last 20 minutes but he... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 12:36:15 EST Check in 4/16 Good morning team!
Got up early and did a ST dvd. It was nice. It was so beautiful yesterday afternoon! DH got out of his funk and invited me to go to the driving range with him. We are very much beginners at golf, but look forward to learning and getting better.

Lisa - Thanks for the offer, but everything is fine. We generally get along, but fuss from time to time like any couple. Excited for you that work is going well, just don't spread yourself too thin. Tue, 16 Apr 2013 07:01:34 EST Check In 4/15 Happy tax day! I'm pleased to say that I am not filing an extension this year. I already have my tax return filed.

DH and I spent the majority of the day yesterday not speaking or looking at each other. That is always a drain on my energy. I got up early this morning and ran outside in the dark. My mother-in-law bought me a super-cool, high-visibility running jacket for my birthday this year and I need to get some more use out of it. It was so exhilarating to be out in the co... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 09:12:25 EST Check in 4/12 I decided to start working out more intensely. I did a TapOut DVD last night and again this morning. I could only get through half each time, but its a start.

The 3 lbs loss yesterday was a fluke. It was back up today. I also got my period yesterday. It's the first one I've had off birth control in 13 years. It's so light. I thought with PCOS it's hard to get your period on your own, especially the first month off of the hormones of the pill? I tried calling my doctor to see if s... Fri, 12 Apr 2013 09:07:52 EST Check In 4/11 Mandy, hope you had a good workout this morning! I hope your day in court yesterday went smoothly as well.

Bobbi, how's the new job? Were you able to get the workout in?

Law and Music, how are you doing today?

I woke up extra early to have breakfast with my husband. I woke up starving. I popped on the scale and get this... 3 pound loss! I'm trying not to get my hopes up. It may just be a fluke. I'm supposed to have my period right now, but I haven't gotten it... Thu, 11 Apr 2013 10:06:28 EST Check in 4/10 Good morning ladies!

Had a rough afternoon yesterday in court. Came home, took a xanax, drank a beer and napped on the couch for over an hour. Even ditched my dinner plan and ordered pizza. Woke up early for an amazing run and feel like a new woman! YAY!!

Will have a busy day today (several plea hearings), but not nearly the drama of yesterday. I like days like today where the courthouse is full of lawyers and people and we are all busy.

Lisa - It seems... Very excited for you. <B... Tue, 9 Apr 2013 07:07:29 EST Check In 4/8 Hi Ladies!

It's a new week, and I have a new attitude. I've decided to be POSITIVE about my weight, rather than being so tough on myself. The weekend with my brother and his family in Orlando was so much fun, and I already miss them. We ended up at a water park within Sea World, and for the first time in my life I didn't obsess about my weight while we were there. I wore a tankini, felt cute, and just didn't stress about it.

Great news - starting April 22, I will be ... Mon, 8 Apr 2013 13:37:32 EST Check In 4/5 Hi all!

Should be a slow day at the office. I have to look over a contract and then I'm technically done for the day.

No changes on the weight loss front. I'm really looking forward to seeing my doctor Tuesday. I'm praying she decides to take it to the next level and really test me for things that may cause weight gain and the inability to lose weight. I then pray that if something is discovered, it's treatable.

I've been trying to avoid actually seeing my fr... I spent the weekend with my brother and his kids in Orlando. I didn't eat the best, but got in TONS of exercise, so I'm happy about that. My husband didn't come with me because he went to visit his brother, so this weekend we're going back and he's coming. The girls get out of school early so Mom is picking them up and watching them for me this afternoon.

Bobbi - I have a pet peeve that is people saying/thinking that they have to spend a lot of money to exercise. But had a large healthy dinner so I wasn't tempted when the bar snacking began. I did have some peanuts, but I consider those a healthy snack.

Need to get my grocery list made and head to the store today. Don't have a definite plan for exercise just yet. WOOT!!

Everyone have a great Friday! Fri, 22 Mar 2013 07:08:29 EST Check in 3/21 Morning all.

I am feeling so motivated today. I had a great run after work yesterday. Set a personal best on the track I run at a nearby park. It’s a 3 mile loop and I did it in 27 minutes. WOOHOO. I’m feeling so good, when I saw an ad for a half marathon at Disney World in November, I actually considered it. I'm still considering it. No decision yet because I’ve got such a long way to go. Three or four 10-minute miles are one thing, but thirteen 10-minute miles?!?! Scar... Wed, 20 Mar 2013 07:03:30 EST Check in 3/19 Good morning team!
Lisa - I was listening to sparkpeople radio and they did an interview with a woman that couldn't lose weight for 10 years. Turned out she had some sort of infection in her teeth. You should give it a listen. Not that I necessarily think that's your problem too, but it might be nice to listen to someone who has had the same struggle. I feel for ya sweetie. That must be so frustrating!

My weight is starting to come back down from spring break. Good... Had way too much soy sauce with my sushi yesterday. We have to drive 2 hours round trip to eat sushi so we don't do it very often. I enjoyed every bite! About to get some corned beef in the crock pot, kettlebells and treadmill for workout, and lots of housework to catch up on.

Everyone have a great day! Sun, 17 Mar 2013 11:16:48 EST Check in 3/16 Good morning team!

We have been out of town for spring break. No intentional exercise, but plenty of walking, climbing stairs on water slides and playing with the girls. But lots of eating as well! There were times that I could've indulged that I said no thank you and I ate a healthy breakfast every day. The scale is showing a big gain, but I'm going to stay calm, drink my water and hopefully it comes off pretty quickly.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend! Sat, 16 Mar 2013 11:52:39 EST Check In 3/14 Are we all alive? Thu, 14 Mar 2013 11:44:25 EST Check In 3/13 Hi Team!

Yesterday was a bad day. I let my emotions get the best of me and I wound up eating 2 jellos with whipped cream, 2 servings of pudding, and 2 girl scout cookies. That was enough fake/real sugar to kick me out of ketosis and make me gain a pound.

Today marks the beginning of Week 4 on Atkins for me. That's 1 pound per week, which I'll take. Much slower than the average person, but at least I lost something my first month on it. Better than using Sparkpeople guide... Have a busy day of getting laundry done and packed. Also need to make an appearance at the office to get some discovery out.

Have managed to shave off a couple of extra pounds the last two weeks so will need to be diligent on this trip to make sure it doesn't come back on. We are leaving Tuesday and coming back on Friday, so it won't be t... Mon, 11 Mar 2013 09:25:37 EST Hello! Hi, all! I am a plaintiff's personal injury lawyer practicing in Washington state. I am fortunate enough to have a job where I am able to work from home on most days so I have no excuse not to get outside and exercise. Of course, working from home also has a downside (namely the refrigerator being so accessible!).

I gained 40 pounds in the last several years that I have committed to losing. I am currently working on my last 5.4 pounds! Whoo hoo!!
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 20:09:50 EST Check in 3/8 Good morning team!

Supposed to be rainy here today. Feels weird saying that. We've been in a really bad drought the past several years.

Had a great day in court yesterday. One of those rare (rare for me anyway!) moments where things went my way. Going to be out of the office for the most of next week so need to get some discovery out today.

Food and exercise have been going pretty good. Had two small pieces of pizza last night with some fruit and raw ... Fri, 8 Mar 2013 09:40:53 EST tough times I disappeared off SP for over two weeks. I have been dealing with so much that even logging onto spark people was too much for me. I felt bad sometimes for not checking in but I just had to digitally disconnect for a while. My weight was the last thing I wanted to even think about as I was dealing with some real personal difficulties. The problems are not gone but I am trying to move on the best I can. Now i feel ready to come back and try again to focus on becoming a stronger and health... Thu, 7 Mar 2013 18:34:32 EST Check In 3/7 Hi Ladies,

Well it looks like our little group has become pretty inactive. Bummer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can change that?

I cannot seem to get myself back into low carb mode. I'm not doing too horribly, but I have put on the roughly six pounds I lost initially. I need to get away from this crazy sweet tooth I've been having. I come home, eat dinner, and then stick a spoon in the peanut butter and the jelly several times to get my sweet fix. ... Thu, 7 Mar 2013 13:56:10 EST check in 3/6 Good morning ladies!

Bobbi - Glad the test is over and you can focus on the rest of your life.

Lisa - When I get fired by a client it's usually a blessing!! LOL! The good thing about having a law license is that if worse comes to worse, you can hang out a shingle and work for yourself. How is your head?

Things have been insane here. I have a custody dispute that has really got me worked up. I have represented this guy for many years and his 15 yea... Wed, 6 Mar 2013 10:14:43 EST Check In 3/5 Good morning ladies! I'm so excited to be back, especially with the bar exam behind me. I did not stick to my low carb plan the last couple of weeks for obvious reasons, so I need to get back on track. I did very well yesterday until after dinner when I wanted something sweet - I ended up making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. So today is a new day!

I'm having leftover chicken chili for lunch along with some veggies and string cheese. And for dinner we're having beef and z... Hope everything is ok.
Bobbi - The test is over and the waiting begins. Hope things are going well for you at the office and at home.
Amy - Would love to hear an update. I know things have been hard. ... Sun, 3 Mar 2013 09:10:20 EST Check in 2/28 Good morning team.

Woke up this morning with chest congestion, body aches, and cold chills. Wanted to try a short strength training routine. Every time one of my friends is sick, I nag them to death about resting. So I took my own advice and went back to bed for an hour. Glad I hit my 1000 minutes of exercise goal yesterday. Got some cold medicine down and feel a little better. Can't get out of work today. I have a hearing that I got a continuance on last week.

Ev... Thu, 28 Feb 2013 09:21:32 EST Check in 2/26 Good morning team!

The whole family is home today for another snow day. Hopefully they will get this all cleared off the roads and we can get back to work and school tomorrow.

Supposed to run today. The treadmill is about on its last leg. DH ti... We had fun and DH won the tournament. Happy for him, but we are very competitive with each other. He will be bragging for a week :)

Gotta get my meals/workouts planned for the week and groceries bought. Will probably get on the treadmill today for a long hilly walk. Got up this morning for weights and a quick run. Ate a healthy breakfast. Splurged a little last night on cheese fries for dinner. Not as a side. My entire dinner was cheese fries! With bacon bits and jalapeno ranch too! 80% healthy, 20% not so healthy. It's ok. Deep breaths.

Things have calmed down at the office. Still have a couple of fires to put out, but not too bad. We have a meeting at the school this afternoon about some testing... Fri, 22 Feb 2013 10:30:09 EST Check In 2/21 Desert: Sounds stressful. At least you have the right mentality about everything. I'm reading this book, and to make a long story short, it may be helpful to eat more protein when you overeat. It sounds like you have everything in check though. You're in my thoughts today.

Amanda: Seriously, how do you do it? Work, kids, and consistent exercise. I applaud you, lady.

No loss again today. No biggie though. I think the shiny new-ness of this change in diet is starting slow ... Congrats on not indulging too while surrounded with temptations.

Bobbi, I hope you're doing well!

I had a relaxing weekend. I cleaned the heck out of the place- and we got a couch for the basement that I helped move. It's a pull out- so it was really heavy. I considered these things a workout :) We also tested some paint colors on the walls. My husband is on S... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 10:01:09 EST How do I...? This is a general question I can not find the answer to. When someone comments on my bog and I want to go to their park page to thank them why can't I? By the posters picture is the "my spark page" button. I click it and get a glimpse of the person's page but can not get onto their page. Many of the names are not easy to remember to do a separate search. Anyone else notice this? Sun, 17 Feb 2013 11:48:06 EST 2/17 Good morning team!

It ended up being a beautiful day here yesterday, so after all of our kid activities, I went out for a run. Three miles and at an improved time! My speed work on the treadmill seems to be helping my time. Then we ended up getting a poker game together at our house. Indulged in some beer and pizza, but it wasn't too terrible.

I have a lot of housework to do today and need to get groceries bought. Everyone have a great day! Sun, 17 Feb 2013 11:38:24 EST Daily Check In 2/16 Good morning team!
We have a fun day with the kids planned. Eating out, bowling (trying to get out of that one), movies. I will NOT buy a vat of popcorn and eat it all by myself! Have a huge weakness for it. Need to get some fitness minutes in today and my groceries bought. Guess groceries can wait til tomorrow since I'm playing hooky on Monday.

Everyone have a great Saturday! Sat, 16 Feb 2013 10:34:47 EST Daily Checkin In 2/15 I'm sorry I missed you all yesterday. I have had a couple of overwhelming days.

On Wednesday, I had a bar prep meltdown. I took the day off work and focused on some areas I'm having difficulty with. Surprisingly, that didn't stop me from staying on my low carb diet.

Yesterday, of course there was chocolate everywhere and I couldn't resist. I got to work and there were a dozen roses with chocolate and a spa kit from my husband. I tried three pieces of chocolate. My ... Well.. seriously.... the code is cracked.

I've been low-carb for 2 days- 2 DAYS- and I've lost a pound. This is a-mazing. I don't have any "induction flu" symptoms. I feel great, actually. In fact, I was at work at 6:45 this morning. I'm usually here at 8:45. Insane.

Also, I'm not hungry between eating AT. ALL. I'm just in shock.

I... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 08:05:33 EST Daily Check In 2/14 Good morning team!

I got up early this morning and ran. Had breakfast and am drinking my coffee at the office. The girls were so excited about Valentine's Day this morning. In a good mood.

Not going to let my mood get spoiled :) I have a plea this morning with the whiniest client in the history of the universe. Thu, 14 Feb 2013 10:09:50 EST Happy Valentine's Day Happy Valentine's Day, y'all. How are you celebrating your best valentine and best friend -- YOU?! I'm up extra early after a bad night's sleep because of a dream that I had.

I did well yesterday, with the exception of the small bite of coffee cake I had at work. I'm not going to give myself a hard time over that, especially considering everything else that I ate yesterday was low carb.

I'm not sure what we're doing for dinner tonight. I think it will be salmon and either brussel sprouts with bacon, or lemon mustard asparagus. I haven't decided ye... Wed, 13 Feb 2013 07:00:34 EST Daily Check In 2/12 Good morning!

The good news is that yesterday I was back on track. I started out the morning with a slice of cheese and onion quiche that I made for the week. I brought corned beef and cabbage for lunch with two string cheeses, had basil lime shrimp and kale for dinner and a snack of bowl of cheesecake. I didn't cheat at all, thank goodness.

So far, this morning I've had a slice of the quiche and some coffee with heavy whipping cream and Splenda. After I'm finishing ... Tue, 12 Feb 2013 07:12:26 EST Daily Check In 2/11 Good morning friends,

I'm officially off the low carb wagon. I've let it get bad - ice cream, alcohol, bread, etc. I've eaten so many things I'm not supposed to have. We are still meal-planning using my low carb cookbooks and I'm trying to make better decisions, so I'm not feeling too badly. I need to eat better though because I feel better and the weight comes off so easily. I can especially notice my fatigue is worse when I'm not eating low carb. That alone is a good reason... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 07:35:01 EST Daily Check In 2/10 Good morning team.

I had a good day yesterday. Got all my dinners planned for the week and groceries bought. Got in 45 minutes of strength training and my muscles are pleasantly sore this morning. I must've been tired, because movie watching with DH turned into me sleeping on the couch all evening!

I'm making dinner for everyone tonight for my sister-in-law's birthday. That's my thing. I love cooking for my family for their birthday. And they love it too. Best par... Sun, 10 Feb 2013 09:19:14 EST Daily Check In 2/9 Good morning team.

I had a not so great day yesterday as far as food and nutrition go. Skipped my morning workout and planned on doing it in the evening, but we ended up going out, so that didn't happen. We played cards and I drank a few too many beers. I used to drink heavily every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I've cut WAY back on the amount and the frequency.

I am up way too early for a Saturday. Will probably piddle around on the computer for a few and then g... Sat, 9 Feb 2013 08:43:29 EST Check In - 2/8 Good morning everyone! The lemon chicken last night turned out amazing. Next time I will definitely add more lemon though, as three tablespoons was not enough to really bring out the flavor.

I ate well for dinner (the lemon chicken and a salad), but followed it up with a huge bowl of ice cream. This ice cream is not low carb. I want it out of my house so I thought, "Well, I had some this morning, so I might as well just cheat and get rid of it." There's a little bit left but I... Fri, 8 Feb 2013 07:48:31 EST Check in - 2/7 Good morning, ladies!

I'm struggling to get back to strict low carb after the weekend. Last night, my husband bought ice cream and I had some. I also had some toast with jelly on it and some milk when I got home. I'm really trying hard not to be so hard on myself! We did manage to have a low carb dinner though - the shrimp scampi with kale. The shrimp scampi recipe was so easy and delicious!

A couple of you asked about the Bobbi method. There's really no method exc... Thu, 7 Feb 2013 08:00:29 EST Daily Check In 2/6 I caved yesterday and had about a quart of one jar of peanut butter and some milk (I'm not supposed to have dairy or peanut butter right now). Boy am I feeling the effects of that this morning. I also realized that more than likely my cravings are so bad after my weekend of cheats. Even though I made good decisions for the most part, I should have been stronger and just stuck to low carb.

Today is my day to study Torts! Don't you like the daily update on my studies? Haha. Thi... Wed, 6 Feb 2013 07:10:27 EST Daily Check In 2/5 Good morning team!
Got up early to do a quick, short run on the treadmill. It was nice. Now I'm eating my cottage cheese and tomatoes and drinking coffee. Thought about you Bobbi as this was one of my favorite low carb breakfasts when I did low carb in law school.

Today will be a lot calmer. Have a funeral this morning and one appointment this afternoon. Hoping to get some orders done today as well. I always let those sit too long. Next time I wonder why I'm not making ... Tue, 5 Feb 2013 07:00:07 EST Daily Check In 2/4 Good morning team!
In an effort to get more action going on the lawyers team, I thought we could start a daily check in. Whoever gets here first in the morning starts the discussion. Talk about your plans for the day and what healthy choices you will make or have made!

I got up early and did a workout off of the Coach Nicole's Total Body Sculpting dvd. It was fun and challenging. Now eating my overnight oats and drinking coffee before I get the crew up. Going to be a busy... Mon, 4 Feb 2013 06:50:27 EST Hello team! I'm Mandy. 34 year old wife and mother to twin girls, Anna and Emma, who are 8. I practice family law and criminal defense in a small Texas town. I share an office with one other attorney (practicing over 35 years and brilliant), a receptionist, and a paralegal. We all get along great and enjoy working together. Being self employed and being expected to solve all of my clients' problems is very stressful, but I can't imagine doing anything else.

I've been on sparkpeople sin... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 19:07:15 EST About to Become an Attorney Hi All! My name is Bobbi and I'm currently studying to take the Florida bar in February. I'm on a low carb diet hoping to lose around 60 pounds that I've managed to gain since high school eight years ago.

On an unrelated note, I have known that I wanted to practice law since I was 8 years old, sitting with my mom as she watched the OJ Simpson trial. It's a very exciting time for me :) Fri, 25 Jan 2013 06:59:14 EST Newly Practicing Attorney Hi Sparkers,

I just passed the bar exam this past summer, and I am practicing in-house. I've been sparking on and off for about 5 years now, but this time things are different.

When I weigh in, I will not look. My husband will track my progress and only deliver the amount lost every month or so to make sure things are headed in the right direction. I'm trying to give that dreaded number on the scale less power. I'm very slowly easing into a workout routine.

I'... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 12:21:31 EST Let's brainstorm! We could use some fresh ideas and goals. What do you think we can focus on? I can think of a few challenges off hand like taking the stairs instead of the elevator in the court house. How about fit jumping jacks after each finished phone call with a client...ten if they were especially challenging? Lol. Really though. Let's get some ideas flowing! Tue, 18 Dec 2012 00:55:00 EST Let's meet! Introduce yourself and let's rock! I am new to Spark People. Imagine my surprise when I saw there was a group for those of us in the legal profession. With the high rates of stress and substance abuse in the legal profession we need to have a support network to he us treat our bodies and minds well! I am a private criminal defense attorney running a solo practice after being a public defender for years. I need you to support me and I want to support you! Fri, 27 Jan 2012 12:58:48 EST Hello Just letting you know I am on board the team HI I have joined this team as someone with a varied background, I worked as Paralegal on major litigation matters in Australia as well as on Royal Commissions while studying law part-time.

I find it a real challenge because i have a form of dyslexia called Irlen Syndrome and I am continually reminded in my thoughts of a statement made by a lecturer that lawyers are craftsmen and their tool of trade is language.

despite this I have persisted in my study of law because ... I am looking for some suggestions from members on challenges that you would be interested in. A member indicated that its tough to come up with interesting challenges for this group. I agree. She also indicated that she doesn't think that tracking fitness minutes is something that is engaging enough for this group, so I'm asking for suggestions. The idea is to lose weight/get healthy, so I want... Sun, 2 Oct 2011 11:53:39 EST Your health and managing stress We all know that stress can harm our health. Sun, 2 Oct 2011 06:02:57 EST Getting this group active Lesley - I appreciate the effort you are making to help get this team motivated and active.

Perhaps the difficulty is finding something that we can all get excited about enough to join goals or post topics. Setting fitness goals does not seem to motivate this team.

I am active on teams that revolve around things that interest me, such as my running teams.

So the question is - what would hold the mutual interest of 180+ lawyers who are from far flung locations... Thu, 29 Sep 2011 20:03:17 EST Challenge #2 - walk 10,000 steps per day Wear a pedometer. Try to beat your total everyday. Walk every chance you get. There are lots of chances to add it in. Sorry guys. I kinda dropped out for a while. Life here got a little crazy with sick children, sick spouse and a month of special education litigation out of no where. I exercised this week for the first time in about 6 weeks and am tracking food again. I bought a new scale--one that measures all kind of stuff and will keep me totally honest. I am still practicing at a big law firm, but I hope that doesn't last for too much longer. Big firm life has definitely contributed to the expansion of my waistline, with the long hours plus all of the food they are constantly feeding us (really, National Potato Chip Day?). Sorry to be AWOL. I lost my beloved Golden Retriever to cancer last Monday. The two weeks before were pretty rough. I gave up on exercise and caring about what I ate, which of course made the sadness and depression worse.

Today is my birthday, 52, and I'm back on track again. I'm heading to a spa in Mexico next Monday for a week, a treat I booked for myself the afternoon Amber died. I promised myself I'd be in shape by Spring, and time is marching on.

EEP Thu, 8 Mar 2007 07:53:30 EST Easter Challenge I see several e-mails on the Valentine's day challenge regarding an Easter challenge.
