Sat, 23 Feb 2008 12:16:20 EST Devotional Help I have been asked to give a devotional to about 100 strangers on Saturday at an Upwards Basketball program. I cannot begin to tell you how far out of my comfort zone this is and I'm getting nervous just typing about. I have two things to ask on the subject:

1. Pray for me as I step further away from the comfort and safety of the boat like Peter. Also that God may open someone's heart to these words.

2. I plan to give my testimony from the perspective of even tragedy in o... Wed, 13 Feb 2008 09:32:52 EST Marking your Bible? What is everyone's thoughts on making highlights and annotations in your Bible. If a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has commited adultery in his heart. Jesus said it would be more beneficial to remove a member of our body if it causes us to continue in sin.

If we hang around a bad group of people, then it would be better to remove ourselves from that group than to let their influences influence us. Tue, 1 Jan 2008 23:07:22 EST With God All Things Are Possible Hello brothers, I am a 41 year old male with type 2 diabetis and I refuse to let the devil defeat me. I have too much life left and too much ministry inside of me. I am so glad that I found this site and a group of men that have made a commitment to keep each other accountable, something that I need a lot of at this point in life. My wife made a really prolific statement, she said she gave God a lot of things in her life to let Him Lord over but she never gave Him her eating habits to help... Mon, 31 Dec 2007 13:34:55 EST This Week's Sermon Just to get some chat going here I thought I would introduce some questions. One of the groups I am in has them and I have enjoyed the answers. So, today's question. What was the topic/text for the sermon in your church today? You may have preached it or listened to it.

Me, I started a series on the 10 commandments. Title: "Monogamous Relationship with the Divine." This was commandment 1, no other God besides me. Sat, 22 Dec 2007 10:48:47 EST Down but not out!!! November was a rough month for me. I sprained my knee playing football with some teens, just when I had gotten into a regular exercise routine. Then my weight ballooned 10.6 pounds in one week because of bone marrow edema (swelling)in my injured leg. But I stayed on my food plan and the following week I had dropped 10 pounds! Yesterday I weighed in and had another 2.5 pound weight loss for last week, so I haven't lost my stride (so to speak). I'm just now at the stage where I'm feeling g... Fri, 30 Nov 2007 14:58:17 EST Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Hello to all. I decided to finally get onto SP for myself. My wife has been doing this for 4 months now and I have been working with her doing the diet and exercise stuff. I am a pastor from Kansas and need to get my weight and health under control in order to live longer than my father and grandfather. That's just about it for now. Thu, 15 Nov 2007 14:20:08 EST Good news, bad news The good news is I lost another 4 pounds last week. The bad news is I sprained my knee playing football on Saturday! (I should know better than to play with teenagers!) Now that I can't continue my walking regimen for a while does anyone have any exercise suggestions for me? Thanks!! 198 Mon, 12 Nov 2007 11:21:15 EST I'm new to SP & to this team Hi, my name is Dennis & I am from Lakewood, Co. (right next to Denver--west). Wed, 7 Nov 2007 15:16:45 EST Ryan Hall! I just want to call your attention to the accomplishments of Ryan Hall. Saturday he won the US Olympic marathon trials and will represent the US in the 2008 Olympics in China. Ryan is a strong Christian. As a matter of fact he was not even completely interested in pursuing a running career until he felt that it was God's call for his life. I have been a big fan of Ryan's since he set an American record at the Houston Half Marathon earlier this year. I ran that race also. I was at the 5 ... I'm just getting back in to SparkPeople after several months away, and I am looking for a couple of teams to join for encouragement. This looks like a good one. My wife and I have been missionaries in Ecuador for 17 years. I'm motivated to live a healthy life so that I can serve Christ, his people, and my family. I'll be checking in. Fri, 19 Oct 2007 22:28:49 EST One goal reached! One of my goals for the year was to run another marathon and to finish it in less than 6 hours. Some friends and I signed up for the St. George marathon in St. George, Utah. So on October 6 we ran one of the best courses that I have ever seen. It was an awesome race. I could not have imagined the race being any better than that. It was cool and dry and mostly downhill. It was an indescribeable feeling. I finished the race in 5:19:38. 40 minutes ahead of my goal. Praise God. I have w... Fri, 19 Oct 2007 14:18:53 EST Please pray! Last night a big problem was revealed after our worship service. Wed, 12 Sep 2007 15:41:10 EST John 17:20-23 Discussion I just received some materials for See You at the Pole which is an annual prayer service for students to pray at their schools. As a teacher I am very supportive of this event. The theme verse for this year is John 17:20-21 so I was reading through that passage and saw something that I had never noticed before. It sems to me that Jesus is telling us that the key to evangelism and people seeing Him for who He really is is the unity of Christians. This is something that I have always believ... Tue, 4 Sep 2007 10:04:44 EST Hello - New to this Team Just found this team last night. I have Christian accountability partners for my spiritual and family life but not for weight loss. Looks like this team has the potential to provide the best of both worlds!

Because of my schedule I may be a little sporadic in reading and replying to posts (sometimes it's all I can do to log my food for the day), so don't take it personally if you leave something for me and I don't get back right away.

God bless, and THANK YOU for this ... I know it is a Christian retreat weekend that goes from Thurs till Sunday, but that is about all. Anyone ever been on one or know anything about one? The event is in Sept. Fri, 22 Jun 2007 15:43:26 EST Hello group... Hello all...just wanted to introduce myself. I am 32, live in Iowa with my wife of 6 years and have 2 girls, with a third child on the way. My goal is to lose 100+ lbs in a year. Sun, 17 Jun 2007 19:49:54 EST Question for discussion Things hae been quiet lately so here is a question to consider and discuss. I teach high school students in both public school and in our Sunday Bible study at church. Statistics tell us that as many as 80% of students that attended church in high school drop out when they leave high school and never come back. I have ideas about why this happens but I would like to hear your thoughts about why students leave and never come back. Also what you think we can do to prevent this from happenin... Wed, 13 Jun 2007 09:32:06 EST QUIET ! ! Why is everyone so quiet? There must be something to talk about! Just praise the Lord for his goodness. God is good all the time. Fri, 1 Jun 2007 20:07:22 EST Wake UP! We've been awfully lax in our conversations in this group! Somebody give us a topic to discuss. I've been working in our garden getting things ready for harvest. We've dug up about 20 lbs of new potatoes. Also picked a pound of English peas... they are sooooo good. Lettuce and onions, too!. Can't wait for the corn, okra, squash, green beans, black-eye peas, cantaloupe, water melon and other stuff!!! This really brings God close to the heart when he provides like this. Praise him! Pra... Fri, 4 May 2007 09:09:13 EST Where is Allen?!? Has anyone heard from him? I was just curious if he had mentioned being away for any time? Thu, 3 May 2007 17:12:02 EST Another plateau BROKEN, SMASHED! ! Finally, another plateau has been smashed through! I broke the 144 lb plateau today (142.8 lbs at 7:30 this morning). I probably won't make my second goal of 140 by the end of April, but it will be close. I hope this inspires someone to stick it out a little longer. Plateaus happen, but they will break if you stay at it.

James Wed, 25 Apr 2007 15:46:15 EST Freedom of Speech? Maybe not for long I received this from the American Family Association and I think it is important!

Dear James,

Without a doubt, this could be the most important letter I have written you. Mon, 19 Mar 2007 13:35:59 EST Great race this morning! This morning I ran the Prickley Pear 10 mile Trail Run in San Antonio. I wasn't sure what kind of time to expect since I didn't know the course and had never run a trail race before. Everyone had told me not to expect a fast time and now that I have run it I understand why. First of all there are lots of twists and turns and very few straight trails. Second of all there is mud, rocks and roots that really mess with your footing. You have to slow down on most of the downhills because they are ... Fri, 9 Mar 2007 07:47:52 EST Asking the church for a higher wage... So, what's your opinion? Can a pastor dialoge with a church for a higher wage?
Church A pays X...
and Church B pays X...
but the Cost of Living in church B is 30% higher.

Can a pastor say, "I'd like you to raise the wage so that the cost of living is matched and my wife doesn't have to get a second job." Or do they have to "not worry about what they eat or drink"?

Thoughts? Thu, 8 Mar 2007 18:21:23 EST Life Change Hi Guys! Just a quick note to tell my online group what's going on in my life. You don't know much about my church, but it has been in decline for a long time. I came in to help "rejuvinate" it, but due to a lot of factors, it hasn't worked out (WOW am I summarizing).
God has given me a chance to go to a different church and I'm going to take the position. It has a lot of positives, but my wife is having a hard time looking at another transition to another city. I have young kids, o... Wed, 7 Mar 2007 17:47:55 EST Freedom of Religion? Ok. Here's a sticky situation. I just received an email from Jay Sekulow, an attorney for the American Center for Law and Justice(a faith based organization). This email addresses the new congress and its obvious change in direction to oppose Christian views. My question is this: While America was built on the concept of freedom of religion, has that concept been so skewed that other religions now are beginning to take over with such power that the Christian religion is in jeopardy? Also... Tue, 6 Mar 2007 13:10:18 EST Holding grudges I have been sitting here for a week trying to figure out how to put this into words. Last week God revealed to me that I am hoding alot of grudges and harboring resentment. I guess i have known it for a long time but just wasn't ready to admit it. The reality is that I have really high expectations of people who are Christians and leaders in the church. First of all I would like for yall to pray for me to work through the resentment and anger that it brings about. But also I want to hear... Sat, 10 Feb 2007 08:57:47 EST when did you feel closest to god. i just was wondering at what point in your christian walk did you really feel close to god. this may sound strange but in dealing with my past i know god has forgiven me but i haven't forgiven myself. i also know that salvation isn't about the way i feel but about the gift i been given through christ. it just seems i haven't had that break through moment yet. hope this doesn't sound dumb. allen Fri, 2 Feb 2007 15:17:01 EST New To The Team First of all I would like to introduce myself, My name is Doug.
