You must eat to live. But the choice of what you eat is yours. There is an individual, specific diet that best supports the health, function, and longevity of each and every animal. The proper diet for human beings is based on starches. The more rice, corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and beans you eat, the trimmer and healthier you will be -- and with those same food choices you will help save the Planet Earth... Mon, 26 Oct 2015 17:14:46 EST The Life-Changing Loaf of Bread Early in 2013 Sarah Britton posted a recipe on her blog, My New Roots, titled The Life-Changing Loaf of Bread. The bread doesn't really fit within the WFPB guidelines because it has nuts and some coconut oil. Fri, 18 Sep 2015 17:26:11 EST In Search of the Perfect Pot of Beans Beans are a mainstay of plant-based cooking. They are delicious, versatile, and full of nutrients. Cooking beans well, however, is not as straight forward as it might seem. Sometimes they’re mushy (overcooked); other times they’re crunchy or chalky (undercooked). Sometimes they seem to take forever to cook (old beans). Questions arise such as to soak or not to soak, to use salt or not, etc. Most agree, however, that high acid ingredients such as lemon juice, vinegar, tomatoes, chili sauce, ca... You know the ones - those packages of sugar, salt, and oil that hid in your grocery cart and suddenly appeared on your kitchen countertop. Oreos might be vegan, but they're certainly not healthy. The same goes for potato chips and a myriad of other processed items, including vegan cheeses and meats.

Starting October 1, commit to eating only unprocessed foods for a month. Mon, 25 Aug 2014 17:58:28 EST New Vegenaise and Hampton Creek Products Friday I bought a jar of Vegenaise Gourmet Pesto Mayo. It was the first time I'd seen that flavor. Oh my! Delicious hardly describes it! It was perfect on my veggie sandwich of spinach and tomatoes. It's certainly an inventive use of those powerfully nutritious seeds that I would never have thought of; and, of course, it contains more than the recipe title ingredients. Fri, 22 Aug 2014 22:04:23 EST Tomatoes: Why Are They Classified As Vegetables? Botanically speaking, tomatoes, avocadoes, and a lot of other foods used in the kitchen as vegetables are fruits because they contain seeds. The story behind the tomato's classification for selling purposes is something that was decided by the Supreme Court in 1893 when it declared the tomato to be a vegetable.

Walter C. Willett highlights this interesting story in his book "Eat, Drink, and Be Healthy." A fruit importer sued New York's collector of custom taxes because he had to p... Fri, 22 Aug 2014 21:53:49 EST Miso: How Much Sodium Does Yours Contain? When my weight loss stalled and my blood pressure remained high, I started looking at the sodium content of the ingredients I use in my cooking. The Japanese brand of white miso that I have used for years is 900 mg/Tbsp or 300 mgm/tsp. That’s really high, so I started looking at other brands of miso.

Sodium content varies according to the type of miso, but the lowest I have found so far is the delicious South River Sweet White Miso which contains 115 mg/tsp.
