After what seems like weeks of tech woes, I am finally able to use my computer. I returned the laptop I bought. It had all sorts of problems. In the process, I decided that I hate Windows 8.1. Fortunately my original computer worked fine when I took it to a tech yesterday and has worked fine ever since. I uninstalled Google Chrome after I got a high usage alert. That was interesting since it was an app I never used. Anyway, tech woes are over for now. I going to order a backup... Sat, 22 Mar 2014 17:52:06 EST New here, from MN I'm here to be around like-minded people on my way to a healthier diet. I've already been on a 95% feingold diet (no chemicals, colors, additives, etc) but really want to remove animal based products, and jump on the engine 2, forks over knives wagon. My husband is very much not on board and therefore I do not have support for a healthier lifestyle. I also have fibromyalgia and am struggling to get in shape whiles avoiding flares. I look forward to being a part of this team! Fri, 21 Mar 2014 20:37:26 EST Need Some Encouragement Please What's wrong with me? Vegan books & cookbooks are lining my shelves. All of them have been read - several times. I believe vegan is a healthy way of eating. Yet, I can only maintain it for a month or so before the smell of my husband's steak overcomes my common sense. Or we're out for the day and the only restaurants we can find serve high fat/animal based foods. I really don't enjoy cooking long winded recipes and prefer to catch something quick and easy.

I've eaten SAD all... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 13:25:53 EST So happy to be back to Vegan!! Fri, 21 Feb 2014 23:06:57 EST Absent for a while Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I won't be online much for the next few weeks. My computer had the blue screen of death yesterday, and I am scrambling to find some extra money to replace it and later to have it fixed. It isn't possible to merge teams on SP, so closing the inactive team to new members was the best option. I hope this will spur members to be more active. Fingers crossed! <... Sun, 5 May 2013 17:33:01 EST Livestock's Long Shadow In 2006, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations released a lengthy report titled "Livestock's Long Shadow." In that report, the FAO cited livestock production as a major factor in environmental problems ranging from global warming to water. This link goes to an excellent summary from the FAO's magazine, Spotlight. There's a lot of consumer confusion when it comes to food labeling. Often, that's deliberate on the part of manufacturers. For example, do you know the difference between "organic" and "all natural"?" Organic foods have rigorous standards to meet for certification; "all natural" foods have undergone minimal processing but may contain preservatives and genetically engineered ingredients (GMOs). Buying food has become much more complicated over the past few decades, and staying abreast of infor... Sadly, kale/collard greens and summer squash has been included on the dirty list. For me, that's yet another reason to buy organic versions of everything on the dirty list. MI and have been a member of Sparkpeople for a few years. A few years ago, I read Eat To Live and it completely changed my life. I read many other books with similar philosophies and really like the Forks Over Knives. I did a great job changing my lifestyle and lost 80 pounds, got rid of my Type 2 Diabetes, lowered my cholesterol and BP significantly, and was loving every minute of it. Hi! I am new to this lifestyle. My doctor asks me to watch the movie and consider adopting this lifestyle to help me lose weight, beat diabetes, and lower my cholesterol. I did follow a vegetarian lifestyle when I was younger and got away from it. Not for political or social reasons, just because after not eating meat products for a while, they didn't look or smell good to me anymore. Any advice or recipes would be wonderful. Thank goodness I love beans. Wed, 6 Mar 2013 13:10:41 EST Maintaining a Healthy Diet In the news this week was Alex Jamieson's post that she is no longer vegan. Fri, 22 Feb 2013 13:23:40 EST Canned Young Jackfruit in Brine I'm starting to play around with canned young jackfruit in brine to get a meaty texture for barbeque and curry dishes. It was very popular in some circles a few years ago, but I missed that trend. Young jackfruit is used as a vegetable, and it's very low in calories. There's no protein in it, so you'll need to include something else in your meal for that. I'm far from proficient in my recipe conversions, but it's a very interesting product.
