SparkPeople Dissertation Support Team Messageboard We will encourage one another both in making healthy choices day by day and towards taking one step after another towards dissertation completion. SparkPeople Dissertation Support Team Messageboard Hello Hi! I'm a DMA student and I'm in my last semester of coursework. That means that I should probably figure out exactly what I'm going to do as my dissertation topic rather than allowing fleeting notions to suffice. I have two unrelated large scale ideas between which I need to decide. My first idea is to describe the benefits of practicing yoga as it relates to trumpet performance (since I have been doing yoga for about a year now and can see differences in the technical postural and breat... Sun, 24 Feb 2013 23:33:06 EST University of New Orleans, sort of Hi everyone! I am a doctoral student at the University of New Orleans in the Special Education, sort of. I was a student there until Katrina. I was finished with my course work just before the hurricane, and did my General Exams just after. They have thankfully extended the timeline for course work, and let me write my dissertation proposal from Austin Texas where we relocated.

I am looking at the experiences of elementary special education co-teachers. These are teachers who share... Mon, 4 Feb 2013 19:48:47 EST Hello everyone Hi! I am new to the group, but not to Sparkpeople or to writing my dissertation! I am looking for support and encouragement on all fronts and looking forward to meeting other folks in the same situation. I live in Austin Texas and sparked my way to losing 25 pounds, gained back 10 and am back at it. Mon, 4 Feb 2013 19:42:20 EST Health Resolutions 2013 What are your resolutions or goals for 2013? Fri, 21 Sep 2012 02:13:38 EST Impediments to Progress I know we have discussed in the past the fact that there are often specific things that get in the way of progress and how important it is to acknowledge and address them in order to resume forward momentum. I wanted to share something that has happened recently that has really taken me off track.

My family joined my best friend from college and her family in a cabin in West Virginia for what was supposed to be a fun weekend. I am currently working on my doctor of business administration degree. Like an MBA but a LOT more research! I have an awesome supportive committee at school and have made slow but steady progress on my dissertation. My weight loss seems to follow the same pattern, one pound every two or three weeks. I am eating right and choosing wise, but I guess I have learned to accept that slow and steady wins the race!
I kept laughing on other teams because they would ask ... Fri, 14 Sep 2012 18:27:36 EST Challenge for July - Improving Support Hello everyone! Our group can be a unique place for those working on achieving both dissertation and health goals to find support and encouragement. However, this is a two-way street. Getting support requires giving it as well. Therefore, our July group challenge will be to post at least one time each week on our team message boards (a post in any of the forums counts toward this challenge). 220 Mon, 9 Jul 2012 09:16:24 EST Anyone get work done today? I've been working on my lit review, at this stage, lots of cutting and pasting quotes before I organize them. I have my water bottle with me, but it is still tempting to much. Sat, 7 Jul 2012 17:56:31 EST Challenge for June: Eliminating Obstacles For the Dissertation Support June Challenge, each member of this group should select their biggest obstacle to completing their dissertation. I know that all of us have multiple issues, circumstances, or barriers that may be getting in the way, but try to narrow it down to one that is causing the most trouble for you. Post here what that obstacle is and then a plan for dealing with it during this month. By the end of June, lets see what each of us has accomplished towards eliminating these ob... Thu, 31 May 2012 07:44:32 EST Challenge Suggestions? To encourage more interaction within our team, I would like to have a monthly challenge. I would really appreciate some help from all of you to come up with these challenges. Please respond here with suggestions for monthly challenges that would be feasible to accomplish and yet push us closer to reaching our goals. Thu, 31 May 2012 07:39:22 EST Change in Team Goal I have changed the team goal to 15 minutes of any kind of work on the dissertation, rather than 30 minutes per day. Ideally, I would still like to aim for 30 or more, but I think making it 15 will mean that we have more chance of succeeding at it. I have found that often giving it that 15 minutes ends up leading to more time spent on it. Fri, 6 Jan 2012 07:55:48 EST January Jumpstart Workout Challenge Hi folks,

Is anyone else signing on to the January Jumpstart Workout Challenge? I just took the leap and, given the special challenge of combining a daily workout schedule with a (hopefully) daily dissertation schedule, I am looking for some mutual support. Anyone want to buddy up for some grad-to-grad accountability? Let me know if you'd like to be my long distance workout buddy!

Warm regards,

Danielle Fri, 30 Dec 2011 04:09:02 EST Apology for Being MIA Hello! I am so happy to have all of you here on this dissertation support team, which makes me feel even worse about not having been around much for the past couple of weeks. I am struggling with multiple health issues that all seemed to flare up at once, knocking me out of commission. I not only was not checking into SparkPeople during this time, but also did not accomplish anything on my dissertation. I am very discouraged by the lack of progress that I made. In the future, I will make more... Sat, 22 Oct 2011 17:05:21 EST Topic Moved to Dissertation Forum Please see dissertation forum for this topic.
