I was told by my heart doctor that I had to quit smoking and lose 20 lbs by June. Eventually, I will have to have my heart valve fixed and he wants me in the best health so recovery will be easy. I quit smoking on January 1st (cold turkey) and joined Sparkpeople to log in my meals to keep an eye on what I eat. I just started walking on my treadmill. Mine are very weak and brittle, I can literally pull layers of them (which I don't do unless it's already very loose of course).
