We have been here for 2 yrs and for some reason it seems like its getting harder as it goes on. The 1st yr was tough, but went pretty quick, the 2nd yr flew by. But now it seems like time is standing still! Anyone else having this problem? Tue, 23 Jun 2009 10:26:48 EST Where is everyone??? Is there anyone left on this team?? Since my husband has been deployed (he's so supportive of my weightloss, but doesn't pressure me), I feel like I have no one to to turn to. I am hoping to find someone to check in with about what i'm doing, how i'm doing, how they're doing etc. Anyone interested? Sun, 24 May 2009 00:09:18 EST New to group! Hi everyone I just joined this group hoping to find people who love to run in my area. We are sationed at Camp Pendleton. I am running my first race this weekend and was wondering if anyone else is running the Navy's 23rd Bay Bridge Run in San Diego? Fri, 15 May 2009 16:54:10 EST It's a new day! Forum Revamp! Sat, 25 Apr 2009 10:57:33 EST Fat alert: beware of breaded foods
Avoid breaded foods. Chicken and fish are healthy staples in your diet when properly prepared. However, coat them with flour and bread crumbs and fry them in oil and you have a fattening feast in an instant. Fried chicken or fried fish sandwiches are higher in fat and calories - and that's before they're drenched in mayonnaise or tartar sauce. Instead go for grilled, broiled, steamed or baked. Tue, 14 Apr 2009 13:11:17 EST Go lean: what you should know about meat My Daily Moment:
Go for leaner cuts of meat. A big juicy ribeye steak is appetizing - that goes without saying. However, meats with a marbled look are often high in fat. Looks can be deceiving - just because the fat isn't visible to the naked eye doesn't mean they aren't high in animal fats which raise cholesterol. Although they may not look it, those cheap, thin cuts of beef can be fatty. Opt for lean cuts of meat, even if you have to pay more for less. Trim off any visible fat before y... Thu, 9 Apr 2009 12:49:01 EST Be careful: the fattening truth about tuna My Daily Moment:
Like a fish in water -- not oil. Fish such as salmon and tuna are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which reduce total blood fats, lower bad cholesterol and raise good cholesterol. Although fresh tuna is the best way to go, canned tuna is often most affordable and convenient. Be careful when making your selection. While fish packed in oil may be the moistest, it is higher in fat. The oil is also rich in omega-6 fatty acids, which people tend to get too much of. Go for tuna pac... Thu, 26 Feb 2009 20:20:30 EST Nutrition Challenge Alright, so I thought for this weeks challenge we could try to increase our fruit/veggie intake to get at least the recommended 5 a day at least, while some doctors say 5 to 9, 5 sounds good. Sat, 14 Feb 2009 22:31:54 EST What you do today doesn't show up tomorrow. Keep this in mind when you weigh: the work you do this week will NOT pay off this week. The hardcore eating and exercising will show up the following week. But how many people take into consideration good cholesterol? Good cholesterol, known as HDL, helps fight against heart disease. Here are some measures to increase your HDL: exercise, lose weight, quit smoking... Wed, 11 Feb 2009 22:10:39 EST Free books Military One Source has a library of books that you can request for free. Too much cholesterol contributes to hardening of the arteries. Essentially it can lead to heart disease, which takes more than 500,000 lives every year. However, all fats are not creative equal. There are good fats and bad fats. Good fats come from fish, nuts, avocados, seeds, olive oil and other foods. While they are high in calories, these foods contain omega-3s and omega-6s which are actually health-enhancing properties. These fats are responsible for improving conditions ranging from heart health to depression. Avoid bad fats such as saturated fats found in animal prod... Sat, 7 Feb 2009 13:35:18 EST Bread, Wine and Cheese-Lovers Diet My Daily Moment:

Go Mediterranean. Dieting doesn't have to be about deprivation, especially when you follow a Mediterranean-style way of eating. This diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, bread, dairy, fish, olive oil, poultry and wine. Most of the fats in this eating regimen come from healthy monounsaturated fats. In addition to weight loss, a Mediterranean diet also prevents heart disease and has been shown to increase lifespan. Mon, 2 Feb 2009 11:35:39 EST Dieters: Reap The Benefit of Dairy My Daily Moment:

Love milk, yogurt and other dairy products? Well, there's a new reason to make sure you've got milk. Studies show that consuming three to four servings of low-fat dairy every day actually helps burn more fat. But experts stress that in order for the dairy diet factor to work it must be low-fat products. According to studies, calcium stored in fat cells plays a role in the storage and breakdown of fat. Sat, 31 Jan 2009 11:27:44 EST Avoid Diets Low In Calories My Daily Moment:

Common sense says that if you want to lose weight, you should lower your calorie intake. But how low can you go? It's important to find a happy medium that will be good for your body. Many people believe that dropping down to 800 calories or less will help shed those extra pounds. However, this type of calorie cutting is neither healthy nor sustainable. People who need to follow a low calorie diet for medical reasons should do so only under the supervision of a doc... But, once you've hit that small goal (whether it's 5, 10, or 20 minutes), ask yourself if you could keep going. In reality, it's impossible to maintain one workout the entire year ‘round. It's important to change up your routine...and what better way to do that than by the calendar. During the winter months, come up with a program that can be done indoors. Come springtime, use the extra hours of daylight to take your routine outside. Can't stand the intense summer heat? Take a dip and get involved in water aerobics. Fall for a morning wo... Sun, 18 Jan 2009 10:16:17 EST Lose Weight Like A Celebrit y...Not! My Daily Moment:

All that glitters isn't gold. It's hard not to be jealous of those superstars who shed massive amounts of post-partum pounds in a matter of months while the rest of us are left battling the bulge for at least a year. However, when it comes to celebrity weight loss after giving birth, results are not typical. Many of these stars engage in strenuous workouts with a personal trainer while a chef busily prepares their meals. Your best bet is to follow a healthy meal pl... Fri, 16 Jan 2009 12:14:38 EST Star In Your Own Exercise Video My Daily Moment;

Do you constantly find yourself discouraged working out along with those fit-and-trim exercise gurus? Why not make your own exercise video? In fact, why not get the whole family involved? If you've got a video camera and a radio, you're ready to go. For starters, select your favorite moves from crunches to kicks. Once you've assembled your regimen, choose your favorite tunes and get moving. You can be your own best motivator. Thu, 15 Jan 2009 20:15:41 EST Resolutions We in Navy and Marine Corps Wives Team are ambitiously setting our annual goals and resolutions, armed with the greatest intentions to actually keep them.
I want to share with you a little secret...
Most of us will not make it to the end of the year. Yes, I know, this is sad but true. Today is the day when at least 50% of resolutions go down the drain. Tue, 13 Jan 2009 17:23:23 EST New Navy Wife Hi everyone!
My name is Mandy and I'm the wife to a Navy man. Mon, 12 Jan 2009 11:00:19 EST Visit Your Co-workers in Person My Daily Moment:

In the age of instant messenger and email, it's become almost commonplace to spend the entire day at your desk. When you need to speak with a co-worker, modern technology has made it so that you never have to leave your seat. Before you fire off an IM or pick up that phone, why not walk down the hall or up the stairs and talk to that person face to face? This will give you an opportunity to stretch and also burn a few calories in the interim. Sun, 11 Jan 2009 11:42:52 EST Bring Your Own Snacks To Outings My Daily Moment:

When you attend a theme park or a ball game, it's easy to fall prey to concession stands offering hot dogs, sodas, cheese nachos and other high-calorie favorites. Instead of buying into fattening fare, pack your own cooler. Bring along bottled water, cold cuts, fresh fruit, pretzels and other convenient foods that will provide nourishment and satisfaction for the whole family. Did we mention you'll also save money? Sat, 10 Jan 2009 12:13:09 EST US NAVY WIFE I just joined today. I've done like every diet known to man. But now that my husband and I are starting Fertility treatments, I really need to lose 50 lbs. Fri, 26 Dec 2008 16:40:13 EST Why Do I Feel So Fat? Not to be a total downer, but this time of year does nothing for me. Why? Because it is such a struggle for so many, myself included.
