SparkPeople Made to Crave Team Messageboard This team is for anyone who has read or is reading "Made to Crave" by Lysa TerKeurst. We are satisfying our deepest desires with God, not food! SparkPeople Made to Crave Team Messageboard Here for the accountability Good morning! I am asking you to please hold me accountable. I read the book and did the Bible study this summer. Lysa spoke to the roots of my overeating: self-indulgence, gluttony, rebelliousness, dishonesty with myself. I need true accountability. I need a place to be completely honest about my eating. I don't do that with people I know--even those who share similar challenges. I am ashamed of my attitude and behavior. I don't know what being held accountable will look like here i... Thu, 27 Nov 2014 00:26:43 EST Empty & Full A very dear friend shared an encouraging Word at church yesterday. She reminded us that when we become full of the world's cares and stress that it is important to pause and empty all of it out and ask God to fill us up with Him. My goal today is to keep my heart and stomach free from fillers and preservatives that the world offers and stay full of the good food that God offers me, spiritually and physically. Thu, 14 Aug 2014 13:59:08 EST About to jump in... I started reading Made to Crave a couple of months ago and was really enjoying it and finding it very motivating. Well than life happened all over me and I stopped doing somethings that were keeping me on track ... reading was one of them.

Anyway, I am getting back on track and starting the book over again, wanting to do the Bible study along with the book this time.

Hopefully this page will be an additional resource for me. Sun, 10 Aug 2014 08:02:38 EST Jumping in Greetings fellow Sparks! I'm a senior who lives most of the week on an 18 wheeler with my over the road trucker husband. I've gained 15 pounds in the more than 2 years I've been riding with him and I need to rein it in! It's very challenging but I love being with my husband seeing this vast and beautiful country! Wed, 16 Jul 2014 20:04:47 EST Katie My name is Katie and I'm a thirty-something careerwoman in Oregon trying to build healthy spiritual and physical habits. I'm part of a M2C group at church and am in the middle of the book/study/guide. I don't know if our group will continue to meet afterwards and I need the accountability and camaraderie so this group seems like a great fit! I signed up for SP a few years ago but didn't take the time to learn it until recently. I'm a data-geek/researcher so now that I understand the system I ... Sat, 21 Jun 2014 13:28:55 EST I love this book! Hi everybody! I'm Laura. I recently found this book and it has made SUCH an incredible difference in my perspective. I have had a couple of weeks FULL of food temptations, but I really am doing well with staying strong. But even more exciting to me is that, by changing my perspective to choosing self-discipline as an act of devotion, I am focusing more on the change rather than the weight.

And it's working! This week the scale has not budged a bit--when this same thing happene... Fri, 6 Jun 2014 09:38:24 EST How are the Jesus Girls? Have not posted much but wondered how our team is? I miss the Made To Crave connection. I am still going strong praise Jesus. No problems with my eating. I am finding it difficult to exercise. I live in new town with no friends yet. Just can not get out by myself. I would appreciate prayer for this. Let me hear your suggestions please. I am rereading Made to Crave and the devotional. Always finding new information and truths. God is good! 381 Tue, 13 May 2014 23:25:54 EST Doing it right this time I'm one of the many that has tried off and on for many years to get my weight correct. I'm 51 and it's much harder now. I do have some limitations, but they can't stop me. I have finally figured out that calories in vs calories out just doesn't work for me. Weight Watchers helped me figure out it's all about quality not quantity of food. I am at that place now that I'm moving and eating correctly but something just wasn't quite right. I have started the Made to Crave book I don't know h... Wed, 30 Apr 2014 11:13:33 EST hello again! Hi all! I am not new to this group and yet I am. I don't really know when I joined it for the first time all I know is that I have not been on SP for at least a year or so! I am really ready to start my journey again! (It seems like I say that so many times!!!) Any advice, help, support would be so greatly appreciated! I have been leading a Made to Crave study on Thursday mornings with 5 other women and we just started week 3 in the study. I am feeling encouraged by this site and that there is a group for the book. Does anyone have some helpful advice for me just starting SparkPeople and working through M2C?
Thanks! Thu, 24 Jan 2013 10:46:53 EST Hello It doesn't look like people have been up to much, but I thought I'd poke my head in here. I don't have the book yet, but the introduction really hooked me.

I've been sparking consistently since January of 2012 and have lost 40 pounds this year. I'm hoping to make it 42 since I turned 42 this year, but we shall see. Tue, 20 Nov 2012 17:40:51 EST Defeated, depressed, and a bit desperate I'm back on SP after a long break. It was a long break where I thought I could do it all on my own. I thought I would have lost weight. Instead, I'm back to where I started. I've lost my motivation to exercise, to eat right... and I know, I know, I know I need to change how I'm living because I'm eating myself into an early grave.

So I've got the "Made to Crave" book, I'm going to start reading it. I'm going to start making the changes that I know God wants me to make.

I... Wed, 21 Mar 2012 15:58:20 EST Hello Hello everyone! My name is Jamie. I am 33 yrs old and I live in Southern Indiana. I just recently bought the book Made to Crave. I was drawn to it as if God was speaking to me for some reason.

I have struggled with weight and food addiction my whole life. I tend to turn to sweets and junk food when struggling with life's challenges instead of turning to God. I am hoping this book and this group help me realize that what I am craving is a closer understanding and relationship ... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 12:09:31 EST Back on SparkPeople and Overwhelmed! Hi there. My name is Leah. I am a new member of this group, but not a new member to SparkPeople. Last year, I was going very strong and doing really well (working out a lot and eating well and losing weight), but things happened (sickness, depression, vacations, stress of life) and, frankly, I just gave up.

Recently, I started with some women in my church on the "Made To Crave" study, which has brought my issues with food to to forefront of my mind and given me hope that I can c... Wed, 22 Feb 2012 16:49:44 EST Chapter Eight: Making Peace with the Realities... Define your week by obedience, not by a number on the scale.

"Yes, eating healthy and exercising get out bodies into better shape, but we are never supposed to get the satisfaction our souls desire from our looks. Our looks are temporary."

Boy, they sure are! At age 38, I look at the mirror and immediately see the signs that I am aging: dark circles under my eyes. No matter how much sleep I get, no matter what creams I use, there they are. They make me look so tired and ... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 18:52:33 EST Chapter Seven - I'm Not Defined by the Numbers Does your size define you? Does the number on the scale determine the outcome of the day?

This is a great little chapter. It is really all about how we see ourselves and how we think others see us. I know I used to get very uncomfortable when people around me began talking about dieting and losing weight. So often, the woman saying she really needed to lose ten pounds was already at a weight I hadn't seen since I was a teenager. I think I was afraid that the conversation would turn... Wed, 1 Feb 2012 12:35:07 EST introducing myself Hi I'm Rebecca and I am 42, married with 2 kids (10 & 8). I work FT in retail and my husband and I are both FT students as well. I am in the online study of MTC with Melissa Taylor and I have read the book at least four times, I love it! I also have the Action Plan but I haven't had a chance to get into that yet. Reading MTC I realized that I was turning to food rather than God to soothe and fill me. I was made for more than that! My "battle" with food has been going on since I was a teen wi... Fri, 27 Jan 2012 15:36:32 EST Hello from Ohio! Hi, I've just joined the team today, and have been doing Melissa Taylor's online blog for Made to Crave for the past couple weeks. I'm looking for people to help me along my journey. I've always been a loner when it comes to stuff like this, although I'm a social butterfly who loves her friends and loves to socialize. I just came to this realization yesterday. I have tried and failed so many times to lose weight, and always felt so alone. This time I want it to be different. I'm startin... Fri, 27 Jan 2012 09:41:51 EST So excited to find this team! I just (re) started on Spark yesterday and I had a small hope that there might be a M2C team. I heard about the book on a Family Life Today (I think) radio show and was interested right away. I have felt the nudge from God in this direction for a while now, realizing that what my problem wasn't physical as much as spiritual. I am doing some research on food plans, what would be the best on. Anyway, I'll stop rattling. I'm glad to have found you all and look forward to sharing this journe... And somehow becoming a woman of self-discipline honors God and helps me live the godly characteristic of self-control."

I would never describe myself as a woman of self-discipline. Sun, 22 Jan 2012 23:57:23 EST Chapter Five: Made for More For me, this was the chapter that really began to break through my layers. The fundamental truth: "We were made for more than this."

Thinking about that truth has been powerful enough to get me through some tempting moments. It is easier to give in - to make the excuse that it won't matter this one time. That type of thinking has always lead to full-blown eating binges for me. But the phrase "I was made for more" can stop a binge in its tracks - if you believe it.

There'... I have been away from spark for a couple of months really trying to work on my relationship with God and getting my family life. I am happy to say I have never been so on fire with God and my family life is Awesome. Now working on adding back in trying to get healthy and keeping it for the right reasons. Sat, 7 Jan 2012 11:20:21 EST Chapter Three: Getting a Plan The illustration at the beginning of this chapter is so important: you can't grow a beautiful garden without getting your hands dirty! I know I get tempted by those commercials you see on TV: diet and weight loss gimmicks that you KNOW deep down don't work, but make promises that speak to the desires of your heart. You want to be thin NOW - and if you pay $$ they'll send you the magic pill you need to get there.

There are no shortcuts.

"Someone had to learn the disciplin... Thu, 5 Jan 2012 15:57:33 EST Hi there! Hello All,

My name is Sara. I'm getting ready to start a study at my church on Made to Crave...I'm so excited! I've been on Spark for a while, lost a lot and gained it all back 40 I know that I've needed to address the spiritual side of my weight issues. I'm so ready to get started and get to know you all in the process as well. 334 Wed, 4 Jan 2012 16:51:06 EST Chapter Two: Replacing My Cravings "Is it posible we love and rely on food more than we love and rely on God?"

It takes a lot of courage to answer that question honestly. To me, it's absolutely embarrassing to admit my struggles with food - my additition to food - my love for food. I try to hide it, even though it must be painfully obvious to everyone around me.

There are so many reasons to be healthy and fit. But these reasons alone are not motivation enough to change. If they were, I wouldn't be here a... Sat, 31 Dec 2011 12:38:09 EST Chapter One Discussion Share your insights from the first chapter, "What's Really Going On Here?"

I had a hard time understanding the meaning behind "we crave what we eat". On the surface it seems obvious, but the more I think about it, the more I think I'm not getting the meaning. Is it about reprogramming my taste buds? Or is it about building healthy habits?

What I do understand is that I crave food more than I crave God. That is absolutely true for me. It really makes me feel like a 2nd ra... Tue, 27 Dec 2011 14:13:41 EST "Finding Your Want To" - Introduction Discussion I think what drew me to this book was the first page of the introduction, where it says, "It's not the 'how to' I'm missing. It's the 'want to'." That has been so true for me all of these years. There are so many opposing forces in our society. One the one hand, I see countless commercial advertisements for foods that aren't healthy but look and taste so good. Then I see news reports on television that lament at how more people are overweight than ever before. I've read diet book after diet b... Thu, 22 Dec 2011 13:28:12 EST Words of Wisdom and Encouragment Encouragement for you today - In any weight loss journey, there will be good days and bad days. But, most importantly, I’ve realized this isn’t as much about losing the weight as it is gaining truth—the truth of who I am in Christ and how I am made for more than this constant, self-defeating struggle.
~~ Lysa TerKeurst (from her facebook page)

Wed, 21 Dec 2011 13:06:53 EST What Are Your Goals for 2012? Let's talk about what our goals are for the new year!

For me, I'm looking to continue on this journey I started in 2011. I added exercise into my life and I feel great. However, it's through reading "Made to Crave" that I've realized that I haven't dealt with my food issues at all. I also have recongized that I need to spend more time reading the Bible and in p... Tue, 20 Dec 2011 10:49:28 EST New Here Hi All,
I'm Amanda. I just read Made to Crave this weekend and was truly inspired! I definitely see my weight loss as a spiritual journey - if for no other reason than because I am so focused on how negative I feel about myself physically that I am not focusing on God enough. So, I'm committing to doing this right - and for the right reasons!!
I am looking forward to getting to know all of you. 30 Mon, 28 Nov 2011 14:10:11 EST Just Starting Hi, I'm Deb! I've been on SP for over a month, and I have been exercising and attempting to lose weight since April. The exercise has been great - I love it and it's part of my life. But when it comes to eating, I'm out of control.

I just got "Made to Crave" yesterday, and I'm eager to start reading. Tue, 15 Nov 2011 11:01:51 EST hi - just found this team Hi, my name is Jeri and I just found this team - I am just starting the book . I am 53 and a grandmother of 2 beautiful granddaughters. I so need support and accountability - I know she talks about accuntability and supportive friends but right now I am on my own - my hubby tries to be that for me but is hard for him to understand. A secret goal of mine would be to actually do and acheive this and start and lead a class at church. But I have to DO it before I can help others. Sun, 6 Nov 2011 00:19:35 EST Greetings from West Virginia! Hello everyone! My name is Nina and I'm from the great state of West Virginia. I'm 26 years old and a blessed wife and mother of a beautiful little boy Zach who is 7. I'm a senior at Liberty University studying Biblical Psychology and Christian Counseling. I've been on a "diet" my entire life and made some progress with Sparkpeople awhile back, but work and my hectic lifestyle has caused me to lax on the progress I've made and it also took a toll on my relationship with God. I was browsing bo... Mon, 31 Oct 2011 09:00:31 EST Hi From Martinsburg I come to check out the forum. Going through the second week of the Made to Crave study. I've been on sparkpeople for a while, then got off due to being in college and came back because I missed my sparkfriends.

I constantly go on again off again with my heatthy eating habits. I work in a very stressful medical records department in a hospital and I do not get a break at night to get any walking in that I would love to do. I eat mostly when I'm stressed and bored. I crave salt. I ... Sun, 16 Oct 2011 18:33:45 EST Introducing.... ME

I am 32 yr old, single mom of 2 beautiful, intelligent daughters. I am a wife and mother of six children ages 18 months-13 years old. I have struggled with my weight for over 15 years and I am ready to be free. I have lost almost 60 pounds since having my baby in 2010 but I still need to lose about 50 more. The first 60 seem to come off with diet and exercising and nursing really helped too. I know that the Lord is dealing with me and helping me to get to the issues that caused me to be overweight in the first place.

Sugar has b... Mon, 5 Sep 2011 10:12:56 EST Cravings Are you craving God instead of food? How was everyone's weekend? Sun, 21 Aug 2011 21:00:08 EST Be sure Be sure to tell yourself today that you are beautiful. Not because of your weight or the way you look....just because GOD love you. The more you accept this love, the more you want to be healthy and fit for Him.

We are all made for more than this. Have a blessed day everyone! Fri, 19 Aug 2011 09:59:44 EST Love this book I am on chapter 3 of this book. I am reading it on my own and absolutely love the book. Lisa's journey it so much like mine. I have yo-yo- dieted way too many times. I lost 60 pounds in 2005 and let 25 creep back on. This is the LAST time I'm going to do this. I'm so excited about this team. Thu, 18 Aug 2011 21:46:58 EST Newbie I everyone! I'm really excited to be part of this team. I had been part of another team, but they were not very active. I chose to come here, because I seen that there were people on here encouraging others.
I think we all need that, and I hope that not only will you all be a source of encouragement to me, but that I might be to you as well.
Looking forward to participating on this team!
Keep up the good work.

Everyone can encourage someone, so make the time to r... Fri, 12 Aug 2011 11:34:18 EST MTC Challenge - week 4 As suggested by MYHOPEIS2, we will be going through the Made to Crave Participant's Guide over a period of 6 weeks. If you don't have the Participant's Guide, Session 4 covers chapters 10-12 in the book.
Thu, 11 Aug 2011 23:24:45 EST Today I walked with God And it wasn't exactly in the garden of Eden. For starters it was on a pretty busy street by my work. Also, I hate walking, just walking. To walk with friends is one thing, or to walk from my house to the store to pick up milk. There are tangible goals there. But to just walk with no other purpose than walking annoys me.

But, after reading ch. 9, where Lysa talks about her running time being praying time as well, I thought "Well, I've been meaning to increase my prayer/ conversatio... Thu, 11 Aug 2011 15:01:08 EST I am worth more than..... I have used this saying so many times since reading the book! I went with a friend to McDonald's this morning. It was sort of an impromptu thing, which never bodes well with my food plan.

I looooove me a chicken biscuit and a coke. And it's fine occasionally, but it starts my day out on the high calorie side and makes it difficult to stay on track for the rest of the day. And I didn't have a stellar dinner last night, so I really wanted to break the cycle.

I had just about decided to order the biscuit, when the oatmeal caught my... Fri, 29 Jul 2011 12:19:03 EST Hi, y'all ;) I read Made to Crave in March and went through the Bible Study in late spring.

I started re-reading the book yesterday to get my mind back in the right place. It frustrates me how I get can get such a big "A-HA! So THIS is what God wants me to do!" and then lose focus so quickly.

Daily time in the Word...I know this is "where it's at."

One thing God has shown me this summer is to quit focusing on the scale. So we broke up. I will weigh once a month. The re... Tue, 26 Jul 2011 11:58:01 EST new from Indiana Hi everyone.. Tue, 26 Jul 2011 08:26:08 EST New here too I joined SP a little while ago and finally got around to discovering the Community features. I started reading MTC this winter and it has effected my life in so many areas, not just eating. None of my friends have read the book yet so I'm excited to be able to talk about it with some people.

I've found that my soul really does crave more than just nourishment. I need encouragement to keep filling it with God and not food. I tend to eat when I'm tired, hungry, lonely, and feel... Mon, 18 Jul 2011 20:57:55 EST Hello, I'm new here! Hi. I'm Amy. I have this book, but didn't get past chapter 3 before summer classes started and I put it aside in the name of my GPA, parenthood and okay--my own ways.

I am really glad to find this team here, and want to participate. One thing I figured out today is that it is 167 days until my 2nd "spark-a-versary." Haven't made it to my goal yet, but it is entirely doable if I get with it.

The last few weeks have been about getting back into a healthy eating plan--on... Thu, 30 Jun 2011 23:31:31 EST Greetings Hi, My names is Jineane and I just picked up a copy of Made to Carve this afternoon. A spark friend suggested I read it. I have read the introduction and am looking forward to getting into the meat of it.
I have been on SP for almost a year, and although it has been an up and down year, I am committed to plodding along, believing that I will reach my health goals.
I am so glad I found this group.
213 Fri, 17 Jun 2011 01:33:40 EST I'm sure I'm not alone....
OK gang... I have not been very active on here at all recently. I am so struggling with even starting a plan of any kind! I am 51 and need to lose about 70 pounds. But more than that I need to get active. I have high blood pressure and really want to get that under control. Once again, summer is upon us and I'm too embarrassed to be seen in shorts so I'll suffer through another long hot summer! How do I get motivated to start? On Sunday nights I'm always feeling like Monday morning I'l... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 09:12:16 EST My thoughts on the Introduction My thoughts
I need to eat the right food. Because when I eat the right foods I feel better and my body performs better and isn't so tired or sluggish.

On page 11 it says “it's not the how to..” I know how to. Eat veggies instead of fried foods , fruits instead of cookies water instead of soda its the want to. I have to realize how worthy and special I am to want to look my best and really be what God wants me to be. Then on 14 it says its easier to make excuses t... Sun, 29 May 2011 22:36:32 EST Good morning! Good morning, everyone! I'm new to the MTC Team. I've been reading the book since Monday, and I just can't put it down! God is really using Lysa's words and life experiences to speak to me. I'm not new to Sparkpeople, but when I got on this morning to journal my breakfast I immediately thought to look for a MTC team. So glad I found it! Looking forward to being encouraged and encouraging others in this journey. God bless you all with a weekend full of God's favor, blessings, and power ... Sat, 14 May 2011 09:06:20 EST Daily Accountability Report I just entered all my food for today so far. It's taking me longer than I would like -- hopefully as I build my favoite and work towards planning ahead, it'll go quicker. Made tuna salad that was really satisfying -- with grated parm and garlic pepper. I made a whole sandwich instead of a half since I've been under my goals the past few days, and I was too busy to finish my cereal (AGAIN!). I was frustrated while driving mid morning, but also hungry, so I went ahead and ate part of the fi... Wed, 27 Apr 2011 18:51:03 EST Easter Blessings -- not just for April 24! During our Maundy Thursday service I felt convicted to fast for Good Friday. I haven't done this since college -- about 20 years ago...but the minister talked about the passover, and how that culture understood Jesus when he said "I am the Bread of Life." Remembering their people being in slavery, they associated "bread" with power. With thos words, Jesus released them from that power and said, "I will supply all your needs." That was a message I needed to hear, and repeated to myself thr... Sat, 23 Apr 2011 23:35:30 EST Wondering if there were others using MTC I started reading the Made to Crave book and doing the study a few weeks ago. Part of my plan is to find a support community and reach out for help. So, while I've been a member of Sparkpeople for 10 years now, it is time to reach my goal! I have never posted to the message boards, and I'm not sure what to expect. Tue, 19 Apr 2011 20:03:17 EST Deprivation to Empowerment I love the word change here. When we feel deprived of a certain food, we need to think about what we are depriving ourselves of in the future if we indulge -- good health, energy, etc. So, saying no to a certain food now is empowering me to have a healthy life. Fri, 15 Apr 2011 22:59:59 EST Friends don't let friends eat before thinking Here's a place to get and give accountability. Thu, 7 Apr 2011 00:15:14 EST Craving God rather than food This is the place to share how you are replacing your cravings for food with a craving for God. Wed, 6 Apr 2011 23:55:18 EST What's your "orange monster"? Over the last couple months, my "orange monster" is more like a tantrumming two year old than hungry, craving monster. After getting to my goal weight and spending quite a bit of time in maintenance mode, my inner 2-year-old decided to kick and scream and be defiant. I stopped exercising for a few months, then stopped tracking my food during the last few weeks. It's time to put my 2-year-old in a time out and get back to tracking and working out! Wed, 6 Apr 2011 23:45:46 EST What's your "plan"? Chapter 3 talks about Getting a Plan.

"One of the first steps in developing long-term healthy eating habits is choosing a realistic food plan that works for you."

What is your plan?
