SparkPeople SP Class of July 3-9, 2011 Team Messageboard New here Hi there, I am a long time member who didn't feel the need to use the forums when I registered. I thought I could do this on my own. Sun, 30 Oct 2011 22:38:19 EST weight lifting update Well yesterday I started week 2... I have to say I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I've read alot and done alot of research, and last week (my first week) I did squats 2 sets 10 reps no weights *I have alot of balance issues* 334 then leg curls on stomach and back 2 sets 15 reps 20 lbs... Then I did 3 different abs exercises 1 set each 16 reps...

I've worked my way up to *yesterday* I didn't do squats just too many balance issues but I did walking lunges 2 sets 16 reps... Sat, 17 Sep 2011 19:43:53 EST stage 3 question So, I just read over all the overview and week 1 & 2 of the stage three....but I am VERY hesitant about one thing. They are recommending to stop tracking daily and start doing it weekly. I am not sure that is possible for me for two reasons:

1. I LOVE tracking, it makes me feel good about myself

2. I still have a long way to go on this journey and not sure if ending now is a choice.

I know I can do whatever I decide is best for me, but am wondering other ... Fri, 2 Sep 2011 20:05:35 EST Monthly Minute Goal I was wondering if we could do a Monthly Minute goal this month, of say like 39,000 minutes. Fri, 2 Sep 2011 11:50:14 EST How did you do in August? I thought August went very well for me. It was the first time I saw something besides the scale change which upped my motivation. The scale is one thing, but fitting in smaller pants that didn't fit earlier is so much better. To be honest August flew by for me and I can't believe today is it. 464

I hope everyone else also had a good August. Wed, 31 Aug 2011 09:53:09 EST Feel So Much Better! Went to bed early woke up really early, no pain, no fever!! I feel back to normal. I even went for a short walk. Did 1.25 miles! So excited. Thank goodness this flare up didn't last long. I think the majority was b/c of the head cold last week then the stress of my daughter doing stupid things which affected my job. Being a dispatcher and getting a call that she is drunk driving...not a good way to end the weekend. But now that my stress levels are down and work gave me a few extra days off t... Fri, 19 Aug 2011 06:16:10 EST wont be much help Hey I'm sorry just wanted ya'll to know my lupis has flared up. I caught that cold and have been really stressed at work and it brought on a flare. I'm running a fever, my whole body hurts and all I want to do is sleep. This usually lasts a couple of weeks. So I won't be much help on the walking miles. I am sorry but I can't hardly walk around the house right now let alone my normal walks.
Again sorry guys!
Julie Tue, 16 Aug 2011 12:41:14 EST Have a question.... The reason I love the message boards is that I can get a different idea or two from them because sometimes I have a hard time thinking outside of the box and my own little world. Little insight....I switch the same two breakfasts each day. I switch the same three lunches each day. My dinners if it were up to me would be the same six to seven each week. I switch the same three exercise routines daily as well. Now I am perfectly happy with these things. I know if I feel like I am getting ... That evil day during the week that just doesn't work.

I have one of those, its Tuesday. Off all days to be evil I don't think Tuesday would be it, but it is. I am at the beginning of a 100 lb weight loss journey. It has been 3 weeks so far and I have lost 5 lbs. I have tried many "fad" diets and lost some weight but I am done with the yoyo diets. I have realized my mistakes and am ready to make some serious lifestyle changes. Hoping to find some encouragement within this team and t... Mon, 1 Aug 2011 20:29:14 EST Are you still here? Fri, 22 Jul 2011 15:48:29 EST Hey! Hey I'm Holly! I'm here to get motivated and lose to weight! I'm currently a junior in college and am pursuing a career in Speech Pathology. I've gotten back into running in the last six months. I've ran 3 5K's and I'm looking forward to running a half marathon in september. I enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities like rock climing, wake boarding, snow skiing, etc. My goal is just to feel better about myself and maybe make a few friends along the way! Fri, 22 Jul 2011 15:35:27 EST How do you get more protein? I'm having trouble balancing protein and carbs. This week most of my reports said I didn't eat enough protein. I tried eating eggs but I just don't like the flavour. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks in advance Thu, 21 Jul 2011 16:31:03 EST Is this normal? I have a significant amount (~60 pounds) of weight to loose before I even start to be considered in a healthy BMI range. I noticed today when I got out of the shower after my run that the fat in my stomach seems loose. Is that normal while losing weight? Instead of being uniformly across my stomach and above my waist, it is now much more focused above my waist and I can move it more. If this is normal and it means it is going away, then yay, but I have never noticed anything like this before. I'm feeling impatient with the part where I notice tiny changes but they aren't visible to others. I'm ready for the part where other people say, "Wow, have you lost weight?" I betcha that's why weeks 2-3 are the critical hang-in-there time for most weight loss. Fri, 8 Jul 2011 06:31:28 EST Lost in translation Hiya, I've recently moved to China with my husband and my dog, Gytha. I tend to put on weight, and that puts a lot of strain on my back. I used to think weight problems were genetic because all my family is overweight, but I'm determined to stop this once and for all.
Not that easy, though! Isolation in China doesn't help, and it doesn't help either that all the food in China has hidden calories that I don't know of.
I hope I can get some help here :) Fri, 8 Jul 2011 02:51:01 EST Ideas for rewards For my motivational Fast Break goal, I chose to reward myself for meeting my other goals...except that now the only rewards I can think of are food-related (which kind of ruins my good day of eating). Wed, 6 Jul 2011 11:22:30 EST Have some great ideas for distractions? I recently read about a study in which they tortured kids with candy. Basically they left a child alone in a boring room, sitting at a table with a candy bar in front of him. The researchers told the child that he could eat it, but that he would get two candy bars if he waited. Then the researchers left the room and studied the child through mirror-glass.

The researchers found that the kids that waited successfully often distracted themselves by singing, moving around, and just not... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 11:15:20 EST What's your pattern and how can you break it? I had started using a daily calorie limit a few days before starting here, but Sunday I caved in to some societal pressure (used "not hurting feelings" as an excuse to accept offered food from two different family members, even though neither one would have been hurt). Then, since I was already over my limit for the day, I had a bag of Arby's, because I might as well splurge before starting "for real this time" tomorrow.

This is my pattern of failure-to-lose-weight in a nutshell. <... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 09:22:26 EST Dieting and Budgeting Does it strike anyone else how much dieting and budgeting have in common? I mean, with both, you're trying to eat/spend less and exercise/save more. And using calculators and diets/budgets tends to be more successful than just aiming to eat/spend less. And in the end, no matter how fancy, it all comes down to learning to say "no" in order to gain something in the future (well, or LOSE something, lol).

I often talk about dieting with money-related terms, like, "I'd eat that fattenin... I look forward to getting to know all of you. Wed, 6 Jul 2011 08:51:34 EST Hey Hiya everyone, Just a quick note to say hello to you all. I am rapidly approaching 31 and I am not going to spend my 30's unhappy with myself which was pretty much my 20's. Life is to be enjoyed, experience happiness and fun. I want to do this now however I also know I will have bad days too which is where we can all help each other.

Wed, 6 Jul 2011 05:43:21 EST Hi everyone! Un saludo desde México Hi I'm Samantha, I joined SP two days ago, and I can't log out!! I found this sooo adictive! -and I like it ;) I'm trying to lose weight, but above all, start a healthy way of life, I've been doing it since april by my own, but with SP is so much FUN! I'm from Mexico, so if sometimes I misspell some words or my grammar is horrible, well... you know the reason (and don't hesitate in correct me :) ) Thanks! :) Saludos! Tue, 5 Jul 2011 22:51:34 EST Hi! I am LAstarlit!! I work very hard, but I have lost myself in work. I am trying to refind a healthier me! Tue, 5 Jul 2011 22:47:26 EST just a couple questions I was wondering how often one should weigh themselves. It seems like daily would be discouraging because the numbers on the scale might fluctuate too much.

My second question is this: if I am still hungry after I log all my food and I have met my calorie requirement for the day (1350 but still have "room"), what is the best thing I could do? I kept a food diary for the 3 days prior to starting so, and I was eating about 3800 calories/ day (yikes)! Is this my body adjusting?
... Since nobody knows I'm dieting, nobody cares, right?

So this time I'm setting a goal (61 pounds by February 15th), setting daily goals in order to reach it, and joining a community where I can hopefully find other people who also nee... A bit overwhelmed with all the trackers and groups yet excited to get started and know I have such a support system behind me if I choose to use it - hoping to meet some local people in the Spark Maine group and sure could use all the buddy support I can get. I love with my daughter's family in a small town in Downeast rural Maine, and long winters can turn us "foodies" into "fatties" ... my daughter is being supportive of my newest low-carb diet, though, and I feel I can be successful at la...
