Here, in the UK, it's a "Bank Holiday Weekend" -- the end of summer. (It's the last full weekend in August, where the Monday holiday itself is still August.) Seems it's the week before Labor Day. At least, it HAS been for the 10 yrs I have been over here!

So, I will work a few hours Saturday morning, as usual, and make sure I get some ME time in on Sunday and Monday, too! Reading, more walks, and word puzzles (which I love). And who knows wh... Thu, 21 Aug 2014 05:02:20 EST Breakfast Enchiladas I LOVE enchiladas. Red, green, purple, it doesn't matter. There hasn't been an enchilada that I haven't liked. Being low carb, obviously tortillas are out of the question, but I found this recipe and I can't wait to try it.

It's from Skinnytaste, if you guys try it, let me know how it turns out!

Breakfast Egg White Spinach Enchilada Omelets

Servings: 6 • Size: 1 enchilada • Old Points: 5 pts • Points+: 6 pts
Calories: 239 • Fat: 12 g • Car... Wed, 20 Aug 2014 15:49:47 EST Wednesday I am exhausted! There was a 90% chance of severe storms last night, so I said I would work at the Emergency Shelter (homeless shelter for women that's only open for severe weather). No one had come to stay by midnight, when I was supposed to start, so they closed it and I didn't have to go in. I checked the weather forecast then, and it said 0% chance for most of the night, 5% towards morning. So the heavens opened up about 1:00 and, as the song goes (and in keeping with yesterday's thread) "... Wed, 20 Aug 2014 08:45:50 EST Bok Choy? Is Bok Choy an approved veggie on the Atkins induction phase? I returned my Atkins diet book to the library, and failed to make a list of the approved veggies! I've found conflicting carb counts on the Spark nutritional tracker. Tue, 19 Aug 2014 09:22:59 EST Tuesday Good morning, SparkFamily!

I have a boat ton of paperwork to do today (I WILL get it done! I WILL!), so I'd better get to it. The things that are out of my control are out of my control, and the things that I can do, I will do.

K. Thanx. Bai! Tue, 19 Aug 2014 08:27:42 EST Tomorrow is a new start for me. I was in such great shape a few years ago. I lost weight on Atkins and was very active. For several reasons, I am far heavier than I've ever been in my life and it's time to get healthy again! Starting tomorrow, I'll be back on Atkins Induction. Mon, 18 Aug 2014 21:19:52 EST Hello, starting tomorrow! Hi, starting Atkins Induction tomorrow,so psyched! I've read the book, have my foods in my fridge, have my plan. I've been eating lower carb for several weeks and have lost 5 lbs, but need more structure and guidance. So I'm ready to reduce the carbs, up the fat, ditch the whole grains and fruit and get serious!
Mon, 18 Aug 2014 20:05:02 EST Day 1 Today is the first day of Induction, and I am nervous as heck! I have never went a single day without copious amounts of caffeine, sugar, and carbs. I stocked up on meat & veggies this weekend, got some sparking water to help fill the soda void, and signed up for a 2x week Zumba class. I am so excited about what lies beyond the next few weeks, I hope I can draw on that during the hard times!!

249 91 4 mm Mon, 18 Aug 2014 12:04:59 EST Hello Hello everyone! My name is Jess and I am new to both low carb and this group! I am an receptionist from Iowa, married, and 2 fur babies. I never thought in a million years in my yoyo dieting I would end up on a low carb path, but recently I have fully realized how bad my dependency on carbs and sugar is. It is my go to for all brands of emotional eating and all of my triggers for my binge eating are carbs or sugar. I decided enough is enough, it is time to take that final step and break ... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 11:56:07 EST Fat for Energy?? I get these strange bursts of energy, then I feel incredibly fatigued afterwards. Is that my body burning fat for fuel, instead of glucose? It feels very different, I feel good in the morning, then a few hours later I feel like a limp rag, and I can't feel my limbs. I just have to lay down and rest until another small burst of energy happens.

Also, about 2 minutes into exercise... my thigh muscles feel like they're ripping apart! I find exercise very painful and sluggish to get thr... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 08:07:04 EST Monday Woke up at 5 am and couldn't get back to sleep. At least I was productive when I got up, though I may not be for the rest of the day! Entered all my checks and credit card charges in my excel spread sheet but have been afraid to total them. At least I know I still have money in the bank so it couldn't have been too bad.

Bridge this afternoon, and I need to do some shopping. I thought I still had time before the students come back, but international students came back last week and ... Mon, 18 Aug 2014 06:54:03 EST Did anyone else lose their nutrition setting on SP I had a bad carb day yesterday and was surprised in running the nutrition feedback that SP congratulated me on getting enough carbs.

That's when I noticed that the goals I had set for fats and carbs had been reset back to SP's defaults.

Does this happened on a regular basis?

I can't find the website I used to help me set the ranges originally. Sun, 17 Aug 2014 12:21:00 EST Sunday Good morning!

I'm hoping for a nice quiet productive day. I'm still fighting fatigue, so I decided to sleep in instead of going to church. Good decision, I already feel better than I have in a couple of weeks.

Have a bunch of paperwork to take care of for the boys today, and I'd like to work on my bedroom project.

Did I mention that DH finally finished the ceiling? Probably not, I was just too busy this week with other things. But Hallelujah and thank you, th... Sun, 17 Aug 2014 11:09:08 EST How Much Weight Did You Lose During Induction? I've read that some people lose 15 lbs on the 2 week Atkins induction phase. Is this also possible for people who have 20 lbs or less to lose? Or is that only possible for people who have a lot of weight to lose? Sun, 17 Aug 2014 05:15:12 EST Is Pork a Problem for Anyone? Does anyone have their weight loss stall if they eat pork? I think I might have an allergy to it. I've not eaten it in years, but I recently tried some natural pork, no sodium added. I gained 2 lbs overnight! And my face and eyes were puffy.

Has anyone else experienced this reaction to pork? Right now, I'm sticking with beef, chicken, turkey, and lamb. I have a mild allergy to all fish and shellfish, so I know I have to stay away from those too. Sat, 16 Aug 2014 14:13:48 EST Sodium Question?? I'm used to following a low-sodium diet. But I've heard you need more sodium on Atkins induction phase because you tend to lose so many electrolytes through the water elimination. How many of you track your sodium?

I do not eat any packaged, canned, processed, or cured meats. I only add natural salt to the low-carb food I cook.

What is a good recommendation? I try to consume 1,500 mg of natural sodium or less. That is what the American Heart Association recommends. Do a... Sat, 16 Aug 2014 14:09:09 EST Help! Can't get into ketosis! 46

Ketone strips still negative, despite following the strict 20 net carbs per day. I spread my carbs out over the entire day. My carb sources come from the approved list of low-carb veggies. Check out my food tracker. I'm exercising 1 hour every day. Why are the ketone strips still negative?? Sat, 16 Aug 2014 10:29:13 EST Magnesium Question? Will it impact my induction weight loss if I take Calm Powdered Magnesium supplement? I can't find a carb count on it. Has anyone used this to combat the induction phase constipation? Sat, 16 Aug 2014 10:15:26 EST Day 5 Induction, Caffeine Confusion!! Has anyone noticed a slower weight loss if you drink 1-2 cups of regular coffee? Sat, 16 Aug 2014 10:10:44 EST Saturday ARF (Animal Reading Friends) at the library, so I'll be down working with that. Not my babies, though. The ARF dogs are special trained therapy dogs. It will be good to see them again. It's been several months.

That's about all I have planned for the day. It's supposed to rain, so a good day to stay home.

Anyone want to join me for a Food Stamp Challenge next month? I'll probably do it for the whole month, though most people just do it for a week. It's a lot easier when ... Sat, 16 Aug 2014 09:17:46 EST I was formerly 2cats2love1 I'm back! I don't receive the weekly digests even though all of that is set up to go to my email.

Would anyone know why this might be happening?

Thanks! Fri, 15 Aug 2014 09:46:15 EST Friday My last meeting today with one of the women from South Korea that I've been tutoring. She goes back next week.

The babies are doing much better for some reason. What a turnaround! Sable (the scaredy one) had been hiding in the carrier all day yesterday and only came out (apparently) to use the puppy pad when I was outside. (I made a point of leaving the room so they'd have a chance to come out and eat and pee and poop.) Then suddenly last night she came out and was all excited abo... Fri, 15 Aug 2014 09:33:08 EST Good Morning from a Low Carb Veteran Good Morning All,

I'm rather new to the group but certainly not new to low-carb living. I find that going low-carb and gluten-free is the only way of eating that makes me feel better and helps me lose weight. I've done Atkins, South Beach, the Mediterranean, and the Ketogenic diet. Lately I've been doing Keto only, making major changes to my life but I found that I just can't seem to get my digestion in order while doing strict Keto. I think too much fat and not enough fiber. <... Fri, 15 Aug 2014 07:29:55 EST New to low carb and group Hi everyone, For the past 15 yrs I have been struggling with my weight. I lost weight on WW but found it didn't address my love of sugar. I'm an emotional eater and sweet foods are my comfort foods. For me to successfully lose weight I need to get my carbs under control. I think Atkins will help me accomplish this. I've been away from Spark for about two years but decided to come back to see if there were any low carb groups. I'm so glad I found this team! Thu, 14 Aug 2014 19:45:55 EST THURSDAY well, it's 7:30 am and my day has started -- I am at work but checking in here first.

Been even busier with our business, but I am getting more organised, and we have a young man helping us 2 days a week, for several hours each day. So that is helping a ton.

Food on plan -- YAY!

Rainy today, but got the dogs out once already, and regardless of the wet, I will get them out at least once again today.

Well, onwards and upwards.

Have a super ... I've been reading posts from Living Low Carb for quite awhile now and would like to join the team. Not sure how to go about it, where to post, and how to set my tracker up for low carb eating. Would appreciate any help you can give as I'm not real computer savy. I've been glued to the computer nightly reading all the posts and feel this is an excellent group to join. I appreciate any help you can give. Wed, 13 Aug 2014 09:16:11 EST Wednesday Humidity is supposed to be way down today, which is wonderful!

How are you doing, Lithgirl? Did the Ark make it by your house or did you manage to survive without it?

Anyone else in that flood zone? Hope everyone is ok.

Mom said that they got over 3" of rain where she lives in Idaho. Average for the whole month is less than 1/3".

Will go to the animal shelter and fix up doggie treats this afternoon. That's about it for me, at least as far as struct... Mon, 11 Aug 2014 14:40:19 EST Monday It's not a Manic Monday, and it's not a Monday morning so good to me. Just an average, run-of-mill Monday.

Got a good night's sleep last night for the first time in what seems like ages. Feels good!

Bridge this afternoon and various errands around that.

Played bridge yesterday afternoon. Mon, 11 Aug 2014 08:04:55 EST Sugar Addiction must be Real Last week I was at a meeting and at lunch they had the best salad with charbroiled chicken breasts, but followed it up with frosted brownies. I went ahead and had one, didn't taste all that good, so on with the meeting. On the way home, 2 hours later, all I could think about was DQ. I felt like I was a mad woman. Got back to my home town, picked up my car, and by doggies I was going to DQ, until I noticed my emergency bag of almonds I keep in one of the drink holders. Had about 6 nuts and dro... Sun, 10 Aug 2014 11:03:05 EST Sunday Couldn't sleep, so I went ahead and got up. Figured I'd do some computer stuff and see if I could get to sleep. Not that I'm implying that you all are boring or anything! Sun, 10 Aug 2014 03:39:12 EST How people raised HDL through low carb mostly I came across this blog where people posted their experience raising HDL. I extracted out interesting posts. Sat, 9 Aug 2014 17:20:10 EST Hi Team Just joined this team.
I have played on Sparks for a while and I have been successful in losing weight before (70 pounds) but maintenance didn't go quite as planned ;-)

A rebound of 40 pounds and a desire to encourage someone else who can't exercise, I researched and joined up with Ideal Protein. It is expensive, but the local support, weekly weigh-in and coaching seemed to balance out the costs.

I have been on this plan for just over a week and lost 9 pounds the... Sat, 9 Aug 2014 12:43:02 EST Saturday I have two bum knees, but they haven't been giving me too much trouble lately. Until yesterday. When I woke up my bad knee was swollen and hard to bend and hurt when I walked on it. I could barely walk around the house, let alone out to the car in the driveway, and I had doubts about whether I'd be able to work the clutch. So I stayed home. Also stayed home because I took some really heavy duty NSAIDs the doc gave me in case my knee acted up while I was in Idaho and they made me really groggy... Sat, 9 Aug 2014 12:17:01 EST Activity trackers Hi!

I am getting ready to purchase an activity tracker. I am looking for one that counts my steps, calories burned, and definitely plays nicely with Spark fitness and food trackers.

I may be interested in sleep information, measure altitude for hiking, and heart/pulse monitor.

What do you have? And what are its pros and cons?

Thanks,
Karen Sat, 9 Aug 2014 10:13:59 EST im back hi my name is cyndi and i am ready to do this again and this time im ready to get it done Fri, 8 Aug 2014 12:49:54 EST TGIF Have a great Friday and a great weekend, too! Thu, 7 Aug 2014 09:08:05 EST Wednesday Ended up talking too much last night so didn't make the apple pie. I'll have them over to my house soon to make it.

A quiet day today. A couple of hours at the Animal Shelter and a lot of house cleaning and that's it. Someone's coming over tomorrow morning to look at my babies and maybe adopt them so I have to get the house cleaned up. Wed, 6 Aug 2014 10:39:04 EST Tuesday I'll do a stint at the food pantry this afternoon. My official time is 12:30 to 2:30, working the Tool Share desk, but I'm going to be demoing something, too. Either Potatoes Anna (kind of like scalloped potatoes, with thinly sliced potatoes artfully arranged in concentric circles in a round baking dish and then drenched in butter or whipping cream and baked until the potatoes have absorbed all the butter or cream and the top is nice and crisp) or else breadcrumb and parmesan coated zucchini ... It's crazy that I need to spend that much, but that seems to be about what I should budget for. Especially in the summer with the Farmers Market, though I haven't been but a few times this summer. My budget is $200, but I'm shooting for $150.

I have to be careful this month, because of the dogs. Tue, 29 Jul 2014 12:37:43 EST Calories The thing I love about Atkins is that you don't have to count calories but at some point don't calories matter?

I have been in inductions for the last several weeks and my calories range is in the neighborhood of 1400-1600 and I'm wondering if that's too high? I have a lot of weight to lose and I seem to have stalled the last couple of weeks. I have been very careful with my carbs and I come it at no more that 20 a day and that is pretty much all from vegetables.

So you... Tue, 29 Jul 2014 10:34:23 EST Tuesday Errands to run. Zucchini and bone broth to process. A couple of hours at the food pantry. That's about it. Tue, 29 Jul 2014 00:14:45 EST I Need Low Carb Friends! Hello all. I would love to make some low carb SP friends on here. I would just love to have some support from people who are on the same journey I'm on. So please feel free to send me a message and add me. I would appreciate it so much. Or just comment here and we can add each other.

Thanks and best wishes! Mon, 28 Jul 2014 13:41:31 EST Monday Yes is me starting the thread. Had a great weekend. Still "STREAKING." Staying on track. Weight is still not budging much. Mon, 28 Jul 2014 12:13:15 EST Sunday I'm up, but barely awake. I worked a the emergency homeless shelter last night from midnight to 3 am. They were forecasting severe weather, but it missed us. I think that's happened every time they've opened the shelter because of bad weather - it passes us by. Got about 2 hours sleep when I came home, then woke up at 5:30 as usual. Dozed until about 7:30 and then gave up. I think the shelter will be open tonight, too, but once a week is enough for me. Let those young, idealistic college kids... Sun, 27 Jul 2014 10:11:38 EST Saturday Our beautiful weather is supposed to change for weekend. 80s instead of 70s. Which is where it's supposed to be this time of year.

Made Zucchini Meatloaf at the food pantry yesterday. Turned out pretty good, except it needed more salt. I think the original recipe was wrong. It made too much (an 8-cup casserole instead of 6-cup), was too bland, and took lots longer to cook. The recipe called for 2 pounds of ground beef and I think 1 pound would have made everything else work better.... Sat, 26 Jul 2014 10:32:29 EST Friday Yes it is. Fri, 25 Jul 2014 10:57:57 EST Not letting minor slip-ups derail the low-carbing Well, this is pretty good news.

Yesterday, I was mostly on plan, but due to 'hormonal influences' (enough said), I gave in and added a few tsp. of sugar to two separate cups of coffee.

I also overdid it on chicken pepperoni sticks. Low carb, and I turned to them rather than something filled with carbs, but still placed me my plan's 1200 calorie limit. And I had two bowls of grapes.

This morning, I was only 1 lb. up from yesterday.

And the great new... Fri, 25 Jul 2014 10:00:51 EST THURSDAY Here's a START! Crazy day! Thu, 24 Jul 2014 11:00:02 EST Caffeine's effects on ketosis I'm looking for some info - anecdotal or scientific - about how caffeine affects ketosis. I've known for a long time that my Ketostix are pale in the morning, even if all I've had is coconut oil and half and half in my coffee, but as the morning wears on and the caffeine wears off (I switch to decaf at 8am) the stix get darker. I'm not eating a solid breakfast anymore, so the only fresh calories in my system are from the coffee.

I'm pretty convinced that, for me at least, caffeine ... Wed, 23 Jul 2014 11:16:41 EST Wednesday A big storm right about now. Lots of thunder (and I assume lightning) and rain. Not severe, though - not much rain.

The only thing on the calendar for today is a couple of hours at the Animal Shelter making dog toys out of old tennis balls.

Happy Hump day, everyone! Wed, 23 Jul 2014 09:16:52 EST First four days -- a bit headachy, mild cravings Hi, everyone.

Well, I'm relieved to say that I've lost four lbs. in my first few days of low carb eating.

I've been having some mild cravings, but I've been okay with them. I did find that having some fruit helped. I'm not doing a very low-carb plan (more like 50-100g. maximum) so some fruit works for me when I have a sugar craving.

But the headache I have today is really tough. Is this typical in the first few days? When does it resolve? I'm also a bit lighth... Tue, 22 Jul 2014 13:42:09 EST Are there any decent low carb/wheat free foods? I've been wheat free for over 6 weeks now and following a moderately low carb diet keeping my carbs at less than 100g per day, though I do try to shoot for 50g per day.

I certainly don't want to fill my diet with "replacements" and gluten-free items, but wouldn't mind having some gluten free pretzels or maybe some low-carb/wheat free wraps on hand for the occasional sandwich/wrap.

Any suggestions on items that actually have flavor, don't have wheat, and taste good? Mon, 21 Jul 2014 08:38:23 EST looking for a low carb potluck recipe My workplace is big on potlucks, the only problem is that low carb items are in short supply at these events. Most of the protein brought to these events is high carb: fried chicken, meatballs or sausages in sweet & sour or barbecue sauce, so I can't count on getting protein w/o carbs. I have a couple of co-workers doing Paleo that have simply refused to come to potlucks any more. The one coming up, however, is kind of a command performance (I could avoid it, but it wouldn't look good). ... Sun, 20 Jul 2014 15:32:44 EST Sunday - which really IS Sunday this time! Sat, 19 Jul 2014 07:53:05 EST Sunday (which is really Saturday) This business of waking up about 4 or 5 and not being able to get back to sleep is the pits! Then after an hour or so on the computer or whatever I go back to bed and sleep. I just had a horrible thought! The Y is open early and I could go there when I wake up and can't get back to sleep. My lab results show the level of Type 2 diabetes so now I really have to watch my carb intake and turn things around so it's low carb for me. I'm glad I kept my low carb books from a few years ago. I've never stuck with it to lose a significant amount of weight. I don't think I've stuck with any plan very long or long enough to lose a lot of weight. This time though it's absolutely necessary that I succeed and continue it for the rest of my life. A health wake up call is def... Fri, 18 Jul 2014 07:17:13 EST TGIF! Woke up at 5:00 and couldn't get back to sleep, so finally got up about 5:45. Ugh. It's still dark! I know I have to get up in the dark in the winter, but in the summer?

I found an article about 50 things to do with zucchini. Some of them look pretty good, and the basic premise makes sense. You grate and then partially cook the zucchini, then drain it before freezing it. 5 pounds of zucchini only makes 8 cups of BZM (Basic Zucchini Mix), so you know that a lot of the moisture has e... Thu, 17 Jul 2014 09:13:03 EST 40 something mom hoping this diet will work! Hi, everyone.

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I could write a book about my rapid weight gain (from size 6 to 20) because of medications, and my many attempts at losing the weight. But I won't. :) Instead, let's just say that in my 40s, I have 152 lbs. to lose to reach my goal -- really, 125 lbs. to reach the normal weight range for my height. And after all of those attempts, I lost faith in myself -- in my ability to set a goal and keep my word to myself on an ... Wed, 16 Jul 2014 20:32:10 EST WEDNESDAY! Almost Noon! July Challenge OK, I'm home now and need to get back to a budget. I'm shooting for $150 for the month, though $200 is more likely. I spent $31 at the Farmers Market yesterday, but that included $16 for 4.5 pounds of bacon ends, so $15 for veggies. Figuring two more Saturdays this month and $15 each time, that's $60 right there. Pork loin is on sale for $1.77 at Kroger and I'll get two of those and have one sliced up for chops and the other into a roast and some chops. Figure that's another $15-$20. Plus I'm... Thu, 10 Jul 2014 10:08:19 EST Back on Atkins Hello All, Just joined this group, looking for recipe ideas and support. Did Atkins last year. I lost well for 3 weeks and then nothing for 4 months, finally gave up. I've been having headaches/migraines daily and I'm beginning to think it's sugar that's the cause. So, looking to see if induction stops the headaches. Then what I don't know. Really need to drop some pounds. Wed, 9 Jul 2014 21:35:59 EST Wednesday Set the alarm for 4:45 this morning (is it even morning at that hour?) but couldn't sleep anyway so got up about 4:00. They reduced the number of flights in and out of here from four to two to reduce the average weight time in Salt Lake City, which is the only airport flights go to. Haven't figured out how fewer flights reduces the average weight time, but that's what they said. Between that and eliminating the direct flights from SLC to Indy, they've made it a much longer day for me. Oh well... Wed, 9 Jul 2014 06:32:24 EST TUESDAY! CELEBRATE! Here we ARE! YIPPPEE! She just wanted a walk. So I got dressed and took her for a walk, then thinned apples. Picked and/or picked up about 8 gallons of apples, most of which are good enough for pies or applesauce, but not ripe enough for just eating. I've been having weird pain down my leg and in my groin. Like sciatica in the front. It has affected my workouts and my life since November. I thought at first it was the new spin bikes at the Y. I kept thinking I had pulled a muscle, but even if I rested I'd have problems. I could barely walk some days. I do spin, yoga, Pilates, swimming, walking, conditioning. I am only 49... Thu, 26 Jun 2014 09:56:47 EST Thursday Already?! Darn I have to go back to work tomorrow night! I picked up a few extra shifts to get some extra cash - no overtime, though, since a couple are at another facility and one at my main hospital is on a new pay week. So I work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday. I only have Wednesday and Friday off. Wednesday is DH's birthday but I have to stay on nightshift mode so I have to sleep until noon-ish that day but he is fine with that. He just wants to hang... Thu, 26 Jun 2014 08:02:37 EST Wednesday It is Wednesday, isn't it? Wed, 25 Jun 2014 14:36:21 EST Thoughts and/or Comments I starting Atkins, again this passed Monday and for the first time ever I started tracking my food which I find very helpful (go figure).

My issue should be filed under the TMI category I'm sure but here goes it. I have type 2 diabetes and I take metformin and an unfortunate side effect of the drug especially if you eat more fat is diarrhea. I usually take phyllium husk twice dally and that seems to help. However since I have been tracking I have discovered it has 8 carbs per serv... Wed, 25 Jun 2014 10:34:16 EST Anyone start Atkins when close to goal weight? I started Atkins induction last week and have been in ketosis for a few days. Most success stories or posts on Atkins forums will boast 15, 20+ pound losses in the first month, but my starting point is different than most of these cases. I've been dieting and exercising for over a year and have already lost almost 60 pounds, so I'm not expecting the same big numbers and water weight loss as a new dieter.

I went from 190 (obese) to low 130s (normal) and would still like to lose aro... Tue, 24 Jun 2014 19:45:56 EST Tuesday Been a crazy weekend for me. I was so tired when I got home from work Monday morning that I slept until 5, ate a little and watched 3 episodes of Star Trek... then back to sleep until I woke at 730 this morning. My body was exhausted and needed a break. I would have slept right through if DH hadn't woken me up to eat. Undoubtedly I was getting clammy and my hands were shaking in my sleep. I never realized I did that but he said I do whenever I haven't eaten in a while. My mother mentioned the... Tue, 24 Jun 2014 10:06:00 EST Low carb site on line, just ordered

I have already tried their paleo bread and liked it (1 net carb per slice) and just ordered their chocolate, noodles, rice, and cookies. The items are pricey, but all very low carb (or carb free) and gluten free. Some items are sugar free as well. Worth a look at their site. Mon, 23 Jun 2014 18:56:03 EST Monday We had a nephew move in yesterday. He is from another city. We went shopping yesterday and he chose things for himself. He is not eating low carb. Sat, 21 Jun 2014 23:25:41 EST New today Hi, just checking in to see how you use SparkPeople and low carb together, I was doing Atkins for awhile last year and was 15 lbs successful, but I got tired of it and gained it all back. Although I must say there were things I really liked about it Atkins, I'm trying to follow SparkPeople recommendations but wonder if I could do some kind of hybrid plan. Sat, 21 Jun 2014 22:56:45 EST Wheat, carbs, diets and allergies? How do you know if you have a problem with eating wheat or carbs and if that is what's keeping you from losing weight? What would the symptoms be? For me, I'm a very "allergicy" "puffy" person in general. I have real allergies to dogs, some cats, rabbits, strong smells like perfume, cigarettes, animal bedding and foods like fruits with skins on them (I can eat some once peeled), raw carrots, nuts with skins ( peanuts are kind of okay). I take a daily inhaler (Advair) as maintenance. After I h... Sat, 21 Jun 2014 11:57:05 EST Budget low carb We're migrating the food pantry blog to a new site, where the recipes will be searchable. I have been very frustrated about my fasting blood sugar levels that are sometimes up to 115 and I am beginning to suspect that eating dairy my somehow affect my body's ability to make insulin, although I tested negative for two types of autoimmune issues that can cause diabetes.
If my fasting blood sugar levels improve I may try adding some dairy back in, in the form of ghee, then goat cheese etc.

Birgit Thu, 19 Jun 2014 11:18:03 EST Thursday Subject: weighing a blueberry

Breakfast included a dessert today. 100 g of Greek yogurt (3.4 g of carbs) a squirt of berry flavoured Mio mixed in and 10 (count 'em) blueberries.

Somehow a box of blueberries made it into my fridge. I have no idea how, and they break my 6% rule. Blueberries are 12% net carbs by weight.

It's tough weighing a blueberry, so I counted 100 berries, weighed them, 150 grams, that is 1.5 grams per berry, my 10 berries were then 15 gram... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 07:52:29 EST New to the team and lifestyle change! Hello,

My name is Lauren. I am 26 years old and just found out that a small medical problem has turned into more. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Fatty Liver disease when I was 18 and started to gain weight. I went from 135 pounds to 180 pounds within a few short months. I then shot up to 200 pounds and stayed at that weight until I was 25. I then met my husband in May of 2013 and as all new relationships go I started to put on a few extra pounds here and there. In March 2014 I had ... Sun, 15 Jun 2014 10:24:45 EST Macronutrients - percentages, grams, or both? So on certain days my protein is really high because I don't eat like I should. But my fat percentages ARE at 70% or higher. I was at 2800 calories, 31g net carbs, 210g fat, and 189g protein. Yeah, I know... that's a LOT of protein. I am new to this group - looking for motivation and strength as I get back on a low-carb lifestyle. A few years ago I lost about 40 pounds doing a medically supervised low calorie, high protein, low carb diet and I felt so awesome. Then, of course, I took a trip out of state and it all went downhill. I gained it all back plus like an extra 20 lbs. So I have been yo-yoing ever since and I am just done with it! I know that carbs are not a friend of my waistline so I really just need to d... Thu, 12 Jun 2014 13:06:21 EST Thursday What a start to the 'day'! Last year I lost 35# using Atkins, but during the winter, I was managing a major project at work and let the stress derail my efforts and have gained everything back. So here I go again. I'm so glad to have found this board on SparkPeople. Wed, 11 Jun 2014 13:11:28 EST Wednesday Arrived safe and sound at Mom's house about midnight, or about 2 am my time. Had a good trip but extremely carby. I ate things I haven't eaten in years, but at least I enjoyed them. Better than eating carbs that you don't enjoy. But even better to not eat them.

Was probably in bed by 1 am, and boy did I ever sleep! Woke up expecting it to be about 4 am for my usual 6 am potty break, and it was 8 o'clock! 10 o'clock my time. Was really tempted to go back to bed again after dozing on... Wed, 11 Jun 2014 11:26:33 EST Tuesday It rained last night and I didn't even know it. I'm glad. Tips on adjusting I have been low-carb since April and lost 21 pounds (South Beach) with 26 pounds to go. I am in Phase 2 of South Beach, so I am allowed carbs in limited amounts. I hadn't been eating them often, but recently felt pressure from media and people around me in general to be "normal", which meant eating large amounts of carbs like "everyone else". The problem is that I overate carbs in my attempt to prove how normal I could be, and though I only gained 1.4 pounds..I still know that getting a bunch... So I went back to bed. Lots of lightning and thunder and rain about 6:00, so I just went ahead and got up. The rain and lightning and thunder are supposed to stop until about 11:00, so I should be able to get out and do the shopping that desperately needs to be done. I could manage without the food part of the shopping, but I'm almost out of toiletries tha... Wed, 4 Jun 2014 07:00:53 EST Thank you, All! Tue, 3 Jun 2014 07:07:41 EST Question: What Motivates You? I don't understand something. Why do some people think that they can take pills for their diabetes, high blood pressure, etc., then continue to eat the same unhealthy way that made them sick? Why are only some people motivated to try to be healthy? What motivates you? Mon, 2 Jun 2014 15:39:07 EST Monday It was going to be a busy day, but I decided not to do the morning stuff. I'm on the computer, instead. I do plan on getting out and working in the yard for a while this morning, though. We had a little bit of rain last night. June Challenge A strange month for me food budget wise. I'll only be here for 9-1/2 days, then will spend the rest of the month and the first week or so of next month in Idaho with Mom. She'll provide the food, I'll take her out a couple of times. I want to use up all of the fresh stuff before I leave, so in the best of all possible worlds I wouldn't spend any money on food before I leave. I'd just clean out the fridge and eat from the freezer and pantry. However, although this is a pretty good world we hav... I also want to make sure I get enough fiber Sun, 1 Jun 2014 10:18:52 EST Sunday For some reason (and definitely not a good one!) I stayed up until 2:00 am last night. I am not a night person. I am very groggy this morning. I should probably have stayed in bed instead of getting up at 8:30. Or rather, I should have gone back to bed after getting up to go to the bathroom!

I have people coming over this afternoon for bridge, so I need to get the kitchen cleaned up since we will be playing in the dining room which is right off the end of the kitchen with no wall o... Sun, 1 Jun 2014 09:48:19 EST Low carb BEYOND Induction. One thing I see a lot of here, and elsewhere is people doing Induction, and loving the rapid weight loss, and afraid to move on. They think that if they stay at 20 grams a day, that they will just enjoy rapid weight loss all the way to goal.

The problem is that LCHF is more than just weight loss. It is a lifestyle change AS WELL AS a diet. Yes, it is a diet, and weight loss will happen, but if you intend to stay on it forever ( you should ), then you need to move on to OWL, Pre-Ma... Sat, 31 May 2014 17:23:28 EST Saturday Just got back from the Farmers Market. There's a new vendor there with pastured pork. I got some pork chops to try them out. They look good - lots of fat! I may get a bunch when they butcher in the fall. And they use a butcher that will - for a whole lot more! - scald the pigs instead of skinning them. That way I can get the skin and the ears and the feet. Especially the skin and feet, though the feet make really good bone broth.

Time for a quick shower before heading for the libr... That meant ten to twenty mile walks three to four days a week. He got slim when he did that and he ate whatever he wanted then which included eating five or six Hershey bar... I would welcome the company :) Wed, 14 May 2014 10:38:29 EST Food Planner Menu Calculator? My name is Mandy and I've been diabetic for ten years, since I was 24 and pregnant with my first child. I've never been able to quite control it like I should. So I'm trying a low-carb plan to conquer it for good. Tue, 6 May 2014 13:23:46 EST Spark's Tracking carbs for low carb diets I use the Spark tracker to keep track of carbs. I have just realized that the "carbs for low carb diets" option actually ADDS on an extra 5 grams of carb. Doesn't matter what food you add for the day, it's always an extra 5 grams of carb. I added a nutrition bar (3 grams net carb) and it says 8. ANY food. Does the same thing....

I'm going to report this as a technical issue... Tue, 6 May 2014 12:03:44 EST Tuesday Whew! I had some heart-related issues last Monday and couldn't get into see my PMP or cardiologist until sometime this week, so I went to the Walk-In Clinic at that practice. I was going to call the cardiology nurse practitioner I saw there but it occurred to me last night that I didn't know if she was in my insurance network. I checked and she wasn't on the list of providers and neither was only doctor that the practice listed as being affiliated with the clinic. I about panicked! What with ... Mon, 5 May 2014 06:48:28 EST Hello! Hey all,

My name is Heather and I am on my first day of Induction. I am not a newbie to Atkins at all. Eleven years ago I went from 210 to 140 using Atkins. However, right after losing the weight, I went through a painful divorce. Apparently my husband wanted me to stay heavier so losing the weight was cause for divorce. Anyway, I am now remarried. In 2010 I ended up in ICU due to multiple clots in my legs and lungs. Doctors were surprised I even made it through. Due to many medica... Sun, 4 May 2014 15:34:19 EST Flax Crackers These are a little tricky to make the first time around. May Challenge I totally blew it in April! Mostly on junk. But I'm back on track for May! Anyone else in with me? My budget is $100 for food for just me, plus eating up stuff I have on hand. I'm going to report in each week. Regular reporting helps when it comes to eating food and it should help when it comes to spending money to buy food, too! Having said that, I need to go back and find my the sales slips. I think I've bought food since the first of the month. Or maybe not. That would just be since Thurs... Sun, 4 May 2014 08:27:14 EST Sunday Another beautiful day today! I love this time of year, when it's warm (I consider the high 60s to mid 70s to be warm!) but not hot. Spring got off to such a late start that the flowering trees suddenly burst into bloom and just as suddenly dropped their blossoms. We're pretty much at a lull between the early spring bulbs and the iris, peonies, and so forth. But it's green and fresh and beautiful out. As Connie would say, YIPPEE!

Sunday School this morning, then subbing in the presc... Sun, 4 May 2014 08:15:34 EST Saturday What? No Saturday thread yet? I've sort of forgotten about it - mostly a matter of thrusting it to the back of my mind. Nothing great when it comes to sales on meat so I'm stuck with chicken legs again and I just can't get excited about them. Sounds like a typical reaction to having to get something on the table, doesn't it?... Fri, 2 May 2014 09:16:45 EST Teriyaki and Soy Sauce I have been searching for some low carb teriyaki and soy sauce and have found a few brands. However, I would like to hear from people that have already tried them and see if they are really worth the price. Thu, 1 May 2014 20:13:10 EST Opinions please A friend gave me a bag of smoked sturgeon, about 1 inch chunks. He now tells me that he soaked them in a heavily sugared marinade before smoking.

Any idea how much sugar might actually be soaked in/dried on to these things? Thu, 1 May 2014 14:56:25 EST Egg Fast a la Jimmy Moore Has anyone heard of this? He did it in 2010 for 30 days only eggs, butter and cheese. Eggs major source of protein, eat within half hour of waking, Not later than 3 hrs before bed. Eat every 3 to 5 hours. A T of butter per egg and up to an ounce of cheese per egg. As many eggs as you need to not be hungry and at least 6 eggs per day. This was his criteria. I have been doing this for a couple of weeks with the weekends back to reg low carb. After reading a bit about it, I think I may have it, have all the symptoms anyway, and my sleep sucks right now. I think my plan for now is to try and get better sleep (which is super tough), up my carbs from 20-40 per day to about 40-50 per day and take some vitamins/supplements (I had been getting lax with vitamins). Thoughts anyone?
Thanks in advance,

Heather Thu, 1 May 2014 12:15:55 EST Thursday FYI, or FWIW, there's a riot going on over on the team leader team about the changes, especially the blog roll.

A beautiful but cool day here today. We were lucky that we didn't get the severe weather that was predicted. Bridge this afternoon and maybe some gardening.

This morning I cut up ten pounds of chicken legs. While on vacation I ate very badly- long story and I drank too much full fat beer- none of the LC stuff; not that I saw any LC beer, hmmm. Of course I didn't look that hard either. This is the fatest I've been since I joined SP and am not happy at all.

The annual was supposed to be last week but after eating meat pies and scones I completely wimped out and canceled. Wed, 30 Apr 2014 14:18:54 EST Wednesday Happy Wednesday!

Have a long list of things to do today, but none of them are terribly urgent - yay!

I started on my wallpaper project in my bedroom yesterday. (Technically I started on Sunday, but all I did was swipe some paint on a baseboard, and nothing got hung.) Did my improvised squeegee get all the air po... Wed, 30 Apr 2014 08:31:00 EST How do people feel about sucralose and other artificial sweeteners?
I know some people abhor them like the plague, but other than sugar alcohols-which can be very disruptive-they are what's out there- Tue, 29 Apr 2014 13:34:29 EST Tuesday My heart finally settled back down overnight and all is well. I'm still taking it a bit easy today. And I'm still disgusted at the way I was treated by the staff at the doctor's office! I got a call from my doctor's office yesterday afternoon and assumed it was them checking up on me. Nope, it was about something else all together. Oh well. At least they have the walk in clinic there.

Not much planned for today. Just a tutoring session this afternoon.

It rained really ha... Tue, 29 Apr 2014 08:05:31 EST Hello everyone!! Hi, my name is Michelle! I'm a 42 year old mom of 6, graduating from nursing school next week, on my way to reaching my dream of being a registered nurse! BUT, through nursing school I have gained 20 lbs, and only being 5" 1, I feel horrible. Today is my first day on induction, and I am ready to get serious with getting fit again. I'm looking forward to reading all of the posts, and learning from your experiences!!
Mon, 28 Apr 2014 13:30:42 EST Monday The emergency homeless shelter is open again tonight (Sunday/Monday) and tomorrow (Monday/Tuesday). Or is it last night and tonight? At 2:40 a.m. I'm not sure which is tonight and which is last night or tomorrow night! Anyway, I'll be there from 3:30 - 6:00. Went to bed early since I had to get up so early, but just dozed instead of sleeping. Oh well. At least it was in a bed with the lights out, instead of on the floor of the narthex (entrance room/foyer/vestibule) with the lights on, like t... Mon, 28 Apr 2014 02:51:37 EST Sunday A beautiful day! The sun is shining, last I heard it's supposed to get up to about 80, lots of flowering trees and shrubs in bloom, birds singing, a light breeze. Heavenly!

Went to Sunday School this morning, then lunch out, then K-Mart, where I bought 8 pairs of shoes (6 were canvas shoes - including a couple pair of lace-up shoes for Woubbie!), got 30 cents a gallon off on gas so saved $2 there, then stopped at an estate sale on the way home. Lots of beautiful stuff at the estate... Sun, 27 Apr 2014 13:47:53 EST Diabetic cookery ( 1917 ) Off Mark's Daily Apple, a diabetic cookery book from 1917. Sat, 26 Apr 2014 09:13:51 EST Saturday Off to the Farmers Market, for the first time since last fall. The FM goes all year long, I just haven't been. It's probably mostly stuff for planting your gardens, but I hope to get some eggs, too. I'm going to do that egg thing that Faith is doing, at least for a couple of days, and figure I should maybe get some organic, free range eggs for it, instead of commercial, caged eggs. Maybe some butter and cheese from pastured cows, too, if they have it. It's expensive that way, but if I'm not e... Sat, 26 Apr 2014 08:21:31 EST Friday It's almost tomorrow, anyway. Might as well get things started.

I just saw the cat head out to the kitchen and then heard a big thump. Yep, she'd jumped up on the counter and was washing out the skillet for me. Such a big help.

I got a call from the doctor's office late this afternoon. The message on my voice mail said to please give them a call. It's either a question about the prescriptions I'd asked them to send to the pharmacist (a new doctor and and new insurance an...
