Sun, 7 Feb 2016 08:45:44 EST What do you do for sweetener? Many of the fat bomb recipes I have found call for artificial sweetener. I have some pure stevia (sweetleaf is the brand) and used that, but I still taste the artificial "whang". Would a tsp of honey be ok? Sat, 6 Feb 2016 16:12:37 EST Yummy lunch I just had Chicken "alfredo" Had half my carbs this morning with breakfast (oops! still learning!) so tried to go as low as I could for lunch

I took 5 oz bl/sl chicken breast, cut into cubes
1T butter (butter is better for this than coconut oil)
3 T 1/2 and 1/2 ( you could use cream, for me this has less problematic ingredients in it)
salt
rosemary

melt butter in a pan, add the chicken breast and salt to taste. cook until done and slightly browning on some sides.
Add cre... Sat, 6 Feb 2016 14:53:51 EST Anyone doing intermittent fasting? I'm looking into IF as a way to increase my ketone levels and normalize my blood sugar. Anyone doing that and if so, what is your routine. Easiest for me would probably be skipping my evening meal and not eating after lunch. Thought I would give it a try. I'm going to skip a glipizyde dose prior to doing this as I don't want lows, so interested in input. Sat, 6 Feb 2016 10:43:50 EST Saturday Happy Saturday! What are you doing today to advance your progress toward your goals? I got up and did a strength training and a 12 minute cardio workout (Jessica Smith You Tube videos). I may take Feisty Pants for a walk later too, depending on how windy it is. And I will be getting groceries and figuring out some quick and easy things to have for breakfast this week. I’m tired of eggs again. I think I’ll make my Ro-tel cheese dip for the Super Bowl tomorrow and get some pork rinds for it. Yu... Sat, 6 Feb 2016 10:20:55 EST Friday Good morning!

Another relatively slow day at work, but, as usual, I'm cranking along so that I don't regret it later. I'm taking Monday off, so by Tuesday I'll probably be in the hole again, lol!

Made a few more adjustments in beverages and I'm liking it. The coffee is cut back from about 16 ounces to about 12 ounces. The raspberry zinger is cut by about a third and replaced with 32 ounces of just water. Wine is stable at about 10 ounces - about 2 servings.

We... Fri, 5 Feb 2016 11:20:09 EST uh oh, gained half a pound.... today is day 15 on plan and I have gained 0.6 pound back. But I have lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks which is pretty fast weight loss for me. Hubby gained one pound, but he lost 11 pounds in same amount of time. Think it may be where we lost so fast. I believe I read on here somewhere about a post induction phase stall, does anyone know how long that typically last? I dont want me or hubby to get discouraged and give up because we have stuck with our diets. I even started 15 min worth of exer... Fri, 5 Feb 2016 07:26:54 EST Differences Its interesting how people in our lives react when we start to try something that is different from what we have done in the past and different from what they do. Some come across very defensive - like we think what they are doing isn't good enough or something. When really its just about what works for each of us individually. I am very grateful that I have my mom and a good friend who are doing LC plans. They are very supportive and very non-judgmental.

What have your exper... Thu, 4 Feb 2016 14:10:03 EST Thursday Migraine. Yuck. Though I'm not complaining very loudly. It's just an annoying migraine, not a bad one.

I had sort of planned to teach ESL today. I felt like Amani and I had some momentum going. Amani is Congolese man who is quite hard of hearing. He's 24 and very smart. Getting him to pronounce words correctly was hard because of his hearing problem, until he took the marker from me and wrote out what I was saying phonetically - in square brackets like in a dictionary! His phoneti... Thu, 4 Feb 2016 14:01:19 EST ketostix, how accurate are they? I bought some ketostix to check and see if I was in ketosis. when I checked it the stick turned light purple the one closest to the end saying and it said heavy. So Im assuming that is good but are they accurate? I have lost 10 pounds in 14 days so I think they may be. Although, i do know some of that is water weight. Thu, 4 Feb 2016 11:22:04 EST Wednesday Brrrr! Cold out this morning. But sunny. Should be a good day.

ESL class this afternoon, then I take Russell to the vet. He's got a lump at the base of his breast bone that I don't know what is. I'll probably be embarrassed when the vet tells me it's normal (I have this fear that the vet will look at me and tell me it's part of Russell's boy parts and then I'll be really embarrassed!) but I'll feel better knowing it's normal.

That's all that's on the agenda for today. <B... Wed, 3 Feb 2016 11:12:11 EST Tuesday Happy Tuesday! It’s a scheduled day off for me, and it’s a good thing as the expected blizzard has hit. My hairdresser called to reschedule my appointment due to the weather, but I still plan on my PT appointment shortly and then I’ll be hibernating the rest of the day. School is called off today too – which hardly ever happens here, so I guess that means it’s expected to get very bad. It’s already snowing sideways and winds will get to 30-40 MPH later.
Have a lovely day!
Tue, 2 Feb 2016 11:44:54 EST Monday What a night! I got to bed about 11:15 (right after Mercy Street) and went right to sleep. Got up once about 6:30 to turn up the heat and go to the bathroom and let Russell out, then back to bed until the house warmed up. And then woke up a little after 10! I usually sleep really well since I got Russell. I wonder if it has something to do with him sleeping with me?

I'm playing Bunco this afternoon. First time I've ever played. It's popular with the social group here so I figured ... Mon, 1 Feb 2016 09:11:24 EST Irony I am starting a home based business. I have decided I will be selling gluten-free, gum-free baked goods because they are easy to make, there is a thriving market for them right now and the profit margins are very good.

Bread, bagels, buns and pizza crusts. Sat, 30 Jan 2016 05:03:35 EST Hi I was referred here by SereneHeather - a coworker in Respiratory Therapy. We both are going back to school for the same thing (software development) and work in the same field (medical) and live just a few miles from each other! We spend a lot of time together at work and work mostly the same nights. Sometimes we don't get to, though.

She told me to come here with any questions I had about low carb - and I have a lot! Can anybody recommend a book on low carb? I love the science ... Sat, 30 Jan 2016 01:41:32 EST Friday, January 29 I didn't start a Thursday Thread for fear that I didn't see. So, I'm starting a Friday thread. If someone has already started one, please just copy this and place on your thread.

Be brave! Hugs Connie Fri, 29 Jan 2016 13:55:36 EST Thursday Hey, everyone! Did you forget about Thursday? Thu, 28 Jan 2016 20:43:50 EST day 7 induction( yesterday) and I went a bit over Hi I have been doing real well on this atkins plan, but, yesterday I went over on carbs by about 10 carbs on accident. TMI I had to drink some benifiber to be able to go to bathroom so that had 4 carbs in it alone. Then I had a salad with my dinner. I went light on the veggies but it ended up being 9 carbs. Then you add in the cheese and eggs i had yesterday and I wound up with 30 carbs! So, now that I have the bathroom issue fixed lol I am going to be very careful today in watching my c... Thu, 28 Jan 2016 10:23:49 EST You are so strong but..... you have to talk yourself down off the ceiling or you were going to go ape face first into carb land :)

oh yea last night I had to talk myself down........I wanted to eat it all. everything in the house!!

you go along so fine, everything great, no hunger at all, then BOOM. one nano-second it is in your face. not the little craving that crosses your mind and you wave off instantly----the BIG one where you question every single thing about this journey. :)

I ... Thu, 28 Jan 2016 08:13:14 EST New here and trying to figure it all out! :) My parents have done LC for years and I know how much it has helped their health, and I have done it before as well, but now it's about my only option due to how big my food allergies are. I read "The Wild Diet" (paleo, IF) and have been trying to read all these threads so I don't ask a question someone else has already answered (I really hate that!) but I am confused about a few things, probably due to my "diet" mentality.

1. Do I count calories? My first few weeks, is it real... Wed, 27 Jan 2016 22:21:45 EST Wednesday Have a great day, everyone! Wed, 27 Jan 2016 10:23:49 EST Hi all! I am looking to restart my low carb lifestyle and need to relearn how I did it back then. Back in 2004-2006, I lost 200 pounds adhering to a low carb way of life. I maintained that weight loss until 2011 when I encountered inner demons that got me off track, so to speak. I gradually gained as I strayed from the habits I had learned. I am now feeling like I can get back on track. I am hoping to share and learn recipes that will enable me to regain my health and life. Wed, 27 Jan 2016 00:28:21 EST The Food Babe I had never heard of her until watching her on The Fat Summit with Dr. Mark Hyman. Wow. Tue, 26 Jan 2016 09:33:40 EST Newish to Low carb, first time posting anything. I have been following a Low Carb, High Fat plan since the day after Christmas, with a daily workout plan. It's the first time that I have ever tried Low Carb. So far I have been very successful. I have gone from 197 to 184.
I did induction amounts for the first 3 weeks, then I did a fat fast for 4 days, and now I am back at induction levels. I don't really feel hungry most of the day, and I haven't had any major cravings, which is nice.
I'm noticing some changes in my body n... Mon, 25 Jan 2016 18:30:42 EST Monday The weatherman said something on the news yesterday about it being the last week of January. Yikes!

I spent the night in a-fib. Don't know why. Usually it converts automatically back to a normal rhythm after a few minutes or an hour or two at most, but it stuck around for at least seven hours. I was considering calling my doctor and seeing if I could get in today instead of tomorrow, when I already have an appointment, but then it converted back. I'll talk to him about it tomorrow ... Mon, 25 Jan 2016 11:15:43 EST Sunday! Started my day off on a good note - figured out how to get the sticker off a brand new dust pan I bought last week. It's been floating around the house while I try to figure out what solvent will take the dang thing off! It obviously won't peel (paper part just shreds and leaves gum behind). Heat made the paper come off in bigger sheets, but still left most of the gummy stuff. Alcohol: nada. I was heading down to the basement today to look for solvents - lighter fluid, benzene, toluene, keros... Sun, 24 Jan 2016 10:47:14 EST I think I messed up - thoughts? Good morning, Team

I began that challenge at work I was telling you all about. My husband and the kids also started. The first week was tough for them because they were always hungry. We're going do it like we're on TV - take everything out and put it in the hallway, deep clean and dust, and then only put back the good stuff.

Have a Happy, Safe, Comfy Saturday! Sat, 23 Jan 2016 12:31:30 EST can I ask just one more question.... sorry for all the questions, but, I am a little confused about eggs. I thought eggs were 0 carbs but my nutrition tracker keeps counting them as 0.5 carbs. That can add up fast lol. so i was just wondering what you all thought. I thought I had read in the atkins book that eggs were 0. thank you all so much for your help. It has been at least 12 years since I last tried the atkins plan and I guess I need some refreshing lol. I even read the book from the library a month ago and still hav... Sat, 23 Jan 2016 11:21:34 EST New to this group.... I've been on Sparkpeople for a while and was doing well last summer with a low calorie diet. Then I fell off the wagon and couldn't get back on. No matter what I did during the day, I would end up overeating at night. I did Atkins a few years ago and stayed on it for 2 years. I know I have a sugar addiction and I think that is feeding my overeating. So, here I am, getting back on track.

I'm a married mother of 3 girls who lives in Michigan. Sat, 23 Jan 2016 09:49:55 EST question about mio liquid water enhancer I have a bottle of mio, it says to add one squirt to 8 ounce glass of water, it says it has 0 carbs, 0 sugars, and 0 everything else lol. My question is, since it is sweet, does it have artificial sweeteners in it? if it does ain't we supposed to count that as one carb for one sweetener? I am new at this and dont want to go over my carb limit. thanks for all the help you all have given. Fri, 22 Jan 2016 22:12:05 EST What Kind of ? Wondering if there are any other low carbers who work nights. I am a nurse and nights is where I live. I find weight loss slows because of this as the body holds on to cortisol and the natural sleep pattern is upended. I find when I am back to day routines the weight drops suddenly. Any suggestions to help with night shift would be greatly appreciated! Sun, 17 Jan 2016 19:02:03 EST Thanks All with the good chat when I asked for advice on my eating, I dropped a lb. Sun, 17 Jan 2016 18:22:21 EST Sunday Guess I added Sunday's stuff to Russell's Never to Old thread, so this is a repeat.

Lots of ice out. I snowed and rained and then froze last night. Definitely am not going outside until it melts. Inside there's housework and making a lap for Russell and cooking some spareribs for supper and that's about it.

And watching Mercy Street on PBS, about doctors and nurses and patients in a Civil War hospital. Sun, 17 Jan 2016 09:20:44 EST Hunger being accepted as part of dieting I read about his problem all the time on the message boards, and have to wonder if it is simply harder to get things right on many of the plans. For purposes of this thread, lets assume a person needs 2500 calories to function/maintain, and cuts 500 calories ( easier math ).

That person's body is not going to survive on 2000 calories.. it will get the 500 calories from breaking down bodyfat. I think SP should stress this more, so people understand that their body is still " eating... Sun, 17 Jan 2016 09:09:39 EST Saturday Happy Saturday! I didn’t check in yesterday, so congrats to Woubbie and Kyle, and to Leslie for telling it like it is! Woo hoo!

My day is off to a great start. I tried a short Jessica Smith cardio workout on You Tube and an upper body weight workout – too cold to get outside this weekend for exercise. Right now I have a LC custard in the oven for breakfast. I had planned to only take a half day off to take Max back to school and Kyle to his drivers test, but realized that I would be drowning in stress, so I decided to just take the whole thing off. Much better decision. We had snow the last couple of days, so the car is not right out in front of the house, meaning we need the plastic sleds to drag all of Max's stuff up to it. Ah well, every day is Leg Day when it's snowy!!

So, it's just after 10am. Kyle's test is at 3:30. It's an hour... Thu, 14 Jan 2016 10:05:34 EST Advice on eating I eat too darn much :)

I am at the point where calories are a matter to me.

thing is when I started long ago I was eating in the 800-900 calorie range cause I was literally NOT hungry from deep keto. Thu, 7 Jan 2016 21:06:31 EST Hello again I think I have been on this team before. I know that lower carb works best for me and wandered away for a bit. Now I have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and I'm trying to control with diet and get off of Metformin. Thu, 7 Jan 2016 10:48:22 EST Love this blog from 2013 about French food It just goes to show that attitude is important when it comes to food. It's true about the French. Having visited Paris a few times now, I always notice the table of skinny relaxed people sitting around a huge plate of cheeses , olives and salamis, drinking red wine, and never feeling guilty about their choices. The oily-est and buttery-est meals I've ever had were in Paris, and omg they were delicious! What scientists call the French Paradox is probably nothing more than proof that has been ... Don't let it!

Most people on this team - probably almost all - eat low carb. I'm just guessing here, but I'd think that probably 90% or more have a target range of somewhere between 20 and 50 net carbs a day, and probably average about 50% to 70% fat. (Most low carb plans are low carb, moderate protein, and high fat.)

Atkins is still the basis of most p... Mon, 4 Jan 2016 15:49:26 EST How to Eat 80% Fat Seems like 80% of your calories from fat is number I've seen batted around when it comes to HFLC, but I never knew how to tell if you were there except by computing it or checking the graph at the bottom of the nutrition tracker. Sun, 3 Jan 2016 04:03:56 EST January goals anyone? I've given myself a goal of 6lbs lost in January. So far I've put ON a pound but doing a daily weigh in so that I can learn more about my habits and how they affect my body fluctuations. Waiting for my ketostix to arrive, because unlike last time when I was always weak and dizzy, had restless legs and got daily cramps in my foot, this time around I feel great in every way (eating more salt this time). Tue, 29 Dec 2015 18:06:22 EST Parmesan-Cashew Cauliflower Risotto Wotshewrote's post reminded me of one I had saved from the newspaper, then tossed in the frenzy of getting things cleaned up for one of the big Christmas dinners. Haven't tried it, but it looks good. I'd probably use pecans instead of cashews, though, or maybe leave the nuts out altogether. Cashews are higher carb than most nuts. Sat, 26 Dec 2015 10:54:11 EST Boxing Day The day after Christmas used to be celebrated as Boxing Day. It was the day the servants got off to celebrate Christmas. A bunch of piddling stuff, and then cooking the big Christmas Eve dinner/Mom's 90th birthday party. Wed, 23 Dec 2015 08:03:27 EST Words for 2016 As announced on the Team Wall, I've been mulling over the 2016 team challenge thread/threads, and I've decided to steal an idea from ~INDYGIRL. She picks a word as her "motto" for the year. Last year was STRONG. This year was AMAZING. I'm going to structure the main team challenge with a monthly "word" to focus on.

January is FRESH.

Hit me with some more ideas and let's see what kind of year we can put together! Compared to the Standard American Diet, both of them are superb.

Few of us would dare to take the two to their extreme, however. Giving up sugar and wheat is one thing, but what about giving up everything except meat? Yes, I'm talking about an ultra low-carb diet with even foods like nuts and berries removed. Mon, 21 Dec 2015 15:54:21 EST Monday Bill and his family didn't get in until almost 9 last night, but they are here. As I expected, I'll have no idea who's going to be here for what meals until the meal. They decided about 11:30 that they were going to have lunch with Karen's dad. But it will work. Sun, 20 Dec 2015 09:26:58 EST Sunday There's a dense fog advisory until 11 this morning. The holidays can be very stressful. What are you going to do today to de-stress? Sun, 20 Dec 2015 08:34:05 EST Saturday Is your shopping done? It will be a madhouse at the stores today. On the other hand, fighting the crowds can be a good way to get in some exercise!

How will you incorporate exercise into your life over the next couple of weeks? Will you make time for it along with all of the holiday activities, or will it get pushed out by other activities?

I'm heading out very shortly (it's after 8 and I'd planned to leave about 7) to do a massive grocery shopping run. This was back in the day when things like that were handmade.

Mom still makes some Christmas goodies each year - molded mints, decorated cookies, her special fruitcake. Sometimes divinity and/or peanut brittle and/or fudge. You get the picture. Not nearly as many as she used to have around the house, but a lot more than are good for any of us.

Does your... Sat, 19 Dec 2015 09:49:44 EST Friday One week until Christmas! Are you ready? How did your week go? Got any plans for today and/or for the weekend?

I am so not ready! I've had menus planned for a week or so now. How realistic they are I don't know since I don't know how many people are going to be here. Including me. Last night I drew up a shopping list which is even harder when you don't know how many people are going to be here for each meal. I'm planning to go out first thing tomorrow morning and do a big shopping.... Fri, 18 Dec 2015 10:34:06 EST Food - Reward or Punishment I usually think of using food as a reward. Not a very smart reward, perhaps, but a reward.

Lately I seem to be using it as a punishment. I've been eating food I don't want and don't particularly like well past the point of gaining any pleasure from it and in fact to the point of discomfort.

Does anyone else use food as punishment? And do you use food as a reward, and if so, how does that work for you? Fri, 18 Dec 2015 00:32:28 EST What's for supper tonight? And am I invited? I was planning to have pork chops, broccoli and a salad tonight when Mom comes over to help put up the Christmas tree. Actually, I had planned to have that last night but we put it off until tonight because of the snow. Which is supposed to be worse today. I may end up eating the pork chop without her so it they don't go bad. Thu, 17 Dec 2015 11:39:39 EST Thursday I've been enjoying all the participation this past week or so. Keep it up! Unfortunately, it hasn't inspired me to get back off the carbage, but that has to come from me and not from you. Sigh.

How's the weather out your way? How will it affect your Christmas or other holiday plans? And what's going on in your world these days?

It snowed yesterday afternoon. Not very much, but it did stick to the streets. Mom was going to come over last night to help me put up my tree b... Thu, 17 Dec 2015 11:36:53 EST Hump Day! And a week before Christmas Eve Eve! So, how did yesterday go? Any challenges or successes or inspirations or downfalls? (I'm trying to avoid saying failures - it's only a failure if you never try again.) And what challenges and successes are you looking at for today?

Yesterday was a disaster food-wise. I don't know what's wrong but I absolutely refuse to eat right. In fact, I've been going out of my way to eat wrong. And not even good wrong stuff. Stuff that I don't particularly enjoy, but I'm scarfing it down anyway... Wed, 16 Dec 2015 11:21:43 EST What was the last straw that took you to low carb? Actually, this is a thread that I somehow got to accidentally on the main message boards, only it wasn't low carb. I think it was "What was the last straw that got you to change your ways?"

Several of you have alluded to this in your answers yesterday or sometime recently, but let's be specific about it here. Why did you originally start eating low carb?
Wed, 16 Dec 2015 11:08:09 EST Low Carb Last Meal So, if you were planning your very last meal, what would you have? (OK, if I knew a meal was going to be my very last one I probably wouldn't worry about whether it was low carb or not. Just play along with me, ok?)

What do think is the absolutely best, most delicious, yummiest, fantasticest possible meal? You don't have to cook it and money is no object. Tue, 15 Dec 2015 22:29:32 EST Happy Tuesday! This is a drive-by posting. I'm actually on a webinar call at the moment (deadly dull) so I better get back to it!

Have a great day, all! Tue, 15 Dec 2015 11:45:25 EST Monday What did you eat YESTERDAY? (did you stick with your plan?)

Did you exercise YESTERDAY? (did you stick with your plan?)

What are your plans for eating today?

What are your plans to exercise today?

Any special goals for the week?

What's up at your house?

Ok since nobody has started a Monday thread, I will jump into the waters and do it. Perhaps, if specific questions are asked more people will feel comfortable jumping in.
... Mon, 14 Dec 2015 11:16:30 EST How do you like to exercise? First thing in the morning works best for me, before the day gets in the way. Unfortunately, I'm not a morning person.

Right now I'm exercising daily, but kind of a mish-mash of strength training, moderate cardio, sprints, and circuit. Whatever strikes me that day. Probably not the most effective method, but way better than nothing. Sun, 13 Dec 2015 12:48:39 EST Sunday Being lazy again today and staying home from church. I really really really need to get going on getting ready for Christmas!

Nothing special going on today. I like that!

I'll talk to Dela tomorrow about asking the dogs' owners for compensation for lost wages and so forth. The Animal Control Officer asked him if he wanted to take them to court, and he said no. He thought he was being asked if he wanted the owners to go to jail. It's interesting dealing with someone from... Sun, 13 Dec 2015 11:52:46 EST Saturday Good morning!

I'm up bright and early so we can get a good start on our quest today. (Yes, it's starting to feel like one of those video game levels that you play through over and over until you finally beat the boss and move on!)

We're driving two hours north to Punxsutawney PA (yes, THAT Punxsutawney, home of Phil, the weather-prognosticating groundhog) for Kyle to pass his drivers test. I will say this. He's at least getting a lot of good road practice just getting to... Sat, 12 Dec 2015 08:51:07 EST So few threads! So few people! We have so few threads these days. Often just the one daily thread here, and the one monthly challenge thread and the monthly FlyLady thread. And mostly just the same few (very few!) people posting.

It's not that we don't have lots of team members. We do. And I see some of them posting blogs.

I wish we had more activity here in the forums. Fri, 11 Dec 2015 23:01:45 EST Friday! Let's get this show on the road!

I took today off from work. There's never a GOOD day to take off, since something's always blowing up there, but this is as good as it's going to get this time of year. My goal is to finish up all the little picture-framing and -hanging projects (there are only a couple left now), do my weekly home blessing (nope, I NEVER do it on Mondays, ever), and finish decorating, except for the tree. We keep our tree up through the middle of January, so we put... Fri, 11 Dec 2015 10:20:01 EST Thursday, anyone? When I took Dela to the hospital yesterday for outpatient surgery, he said he didn't want listed in the patient roster and didn't want the hospital giving out information or even saying he was there. Fine. (He told me he did it because "women are not strong." He didn't want his mother or sisters coming in and crying over him." They took my name and phone number when I took him in and I was allowed to see him, to go back to his room, and so forth.

Today, after being kept in the hos... Thu, 10 Dec 2015 11:12:22 EST Where's Wednesday? Looks like no one has posted on any thread in the main forum today!

It was quite a day today. They told us to be at the hospital at 11, but when we got there we were told we were supposed to get there at 1:40. The hospital nurse called the surgeon's nurse who said we were supposed to be there at 1:40, but then called back and said she'd checked and she had indeed told us to be there at 11. Her mistake. Dela wanted to just stay there, so he did. He told me to go run errands, so I di... Wed, 9 Dec 2015 22:35:25 EST Hello. Hello, I have been on sparks before but always low fat. Last month my husband who has health issues as well as being overweight came to me and said that it was time for him to lose weight and that he wanted to do something like keto. I had never heard of it and I've never even thought about doing low carb anything (heard all the horror stories) but this was the first time he had ever shown an interest in trying to get healthy and he asked me to do this with him so I couldn't say no. I did a l... Wed, 9 Dec 2015 11:30:36 EST Tuesday Not much planned for today. Dela and I talked about health insurance and ObamaCare yesterday, and I called the insurance company I think he should use (they partner with the hospital group here, which includes almost all of the doctors in town, several labs, Urgent Care, the hospital, rehab, etc., which makes it a lot easier since you don't have to check and see whether a doctor is in the network). They gave me the name of an insurance agent here in Twin who's licensed for ObamaCare. I called... Tue, 8 Dec 2015 10:06:56 EST Hungry, so weird I did super low carb for a week. It turned off my appetite and my cravings and I lost 6lbs (I'm guessing water). I wanted to test a couple of things, so I started eating carbs again for a week. Gained 1lb back, picked up my Starbucks habit again, and decided I could definitely live without all that. Went back to low carb, and intend to stay this way.

However, this time around I'm really hungry. I typically scramble eggs in butter for breakfast with either bacon or grated cheese, th... Tue, 8 Dec 2015 08:32:06 EST Low Carb "Rice" Pudding Last night I made mac and cheese out of spaghetti squash. It wasn't very good - very sweet, for some reason. I assumed it had to be the spaghetti squash, so I made "rice" pudding. I mixed up an egg and some cream, butter, splenda and cinnamon, then added some cooked spaghetti squash cut into smallish pieces. (Raisins would have been good, but not low carb.) Then I nuked it. It turned out quite good. Mon, 7 Dec 2015 22:25:47 EST Monday, and back in the saddle Happy Monday! Say it enough and maybe it will come true!

I'm ploughing through work again today, and plan to do the same at home. I got a lot of irritating little tasks off the to-do list in both areas and hope I can just continue along this way for the next week.

Max comes back for Christmas break this weekend and I want to finish tidying his side of the room he shares with Kyle. He was going to stay at school an extra few days, but I convinced him to be ready on Saturd... Mon, 7 Dec 2015 10:40:14 EST Sunday Good afternoon, all! Guess we're all having a slow start to the day.

I'm still in Touch Paper Once mode, just picking up projects and doing them and then moving on. It's a goofy, out-of-order way to accomplish things, but at the end of the day it's so nice to not have to look at those stupid little things sitting in places they ought not to be. Today I'm finishing up a bunch of picture-hanging things. I stocked up on those ridiculously expensive 3M double-sided tape/Velcro hangers ... Sun, 6 Dec 2015 13:17:28 EST Saturday, lazy, 1 each Must be lazy, no one started the daily thread yet. Sat, 5 Dec 2015 11:57:43 EST TGIF! I shouldn't complain, I took yesterday off. Didn't want to drive over the hill with the storm we were having. It was, as Mom puts it, a rip-snorter. Fri, 4 Dec 2015 11:09:01 EST Thursday More dealing with Health and Welfare this afternoon. At least I don't have to work with Dela to find ObamaCare. They told me yesterday at H&W that they automatically move refugees to ObamaCare when their Refugee Medicaid status ends. I was not looking forward to explaining it all to him! He understands and speaks English well, but explaining benefit periods and types of of insurance and aggregating household incomes and all that stuff is a real challenge! Even in American to Americans it'... Thu, 3 Dec 2015 13:39:43 EST nutritional supplementation for low carbers? I need some help, folks. My SIL (who is, or prefers to be, largely vegetarian) just sent me an email asking if any supplementation was needed with a low carb diet. My brother's diabetes has gotten out of control (he said the doctor is going to put him on a third medicine if his numbers don't improve) and he is cutting back on carbs. SIL says she could stand to cut back, too.

Can you point me to specific articles, etc. that she, a scientist by training and profession, would respect... Wed, 2 Dec 2015 21:56:20 EST Hump day Glad to get over it, week is LOOONNGG. Wed, 2 Dec 2015 12:04:36 EST Tuesday Brrr! At least it's supposed to warm up in a day or two.

Physical therapy on my hand this morning, followed by a tutoring session at the Refugee Center, and maybe some shopping for things like Ice Melt and pine pellets for kitty litter. Have to call the animal shelter and see whether they have any cats who need a temporary home until the Christmas guests arrive. With cats taking over the guest bathroom, there's not much room for guests.

Have a great month! Mon, 30 Nov 2015 18:40:45 EST Monday - the end of the month! Another bitterly cold night and it must have been foggy again. The trees are coated with rime again. Beautiful. No sun today, though. And tonight it's supposed to be warmer - the forecasted low is only 8 instead of 0 or below. And then it warms up. The forecast is for a warmer to much warmer December, January and February. Nice for me, but not so nice for skiers and snowboarders and ski resorts and so forth. Or for the farmers next year.

I need to get down to the falls before the ... Mon, 30 Nov 2015 11:41:32 EST Sunday Another beautiful morning! And I mean that in the visual sense, not just the general, it's nice out kind of way. There must have been fog last night because the trees are coated in thick rime. Most of the snow has fallen off the limbs and twigs, but now they are encased all around with bright sparkly white. The sun is just coming up behind them and the sky is sort of yellowy-pink behind the white and sparkling lacy interlocking branches and twigs with some dark wood showing through for contra... Sun, 29 Nov 2015 10:25:24 EST Saturday Still cold here, but sunny and sparkly. I'm sitting in front of a heater outlet, wrapped up in a blanket and watching the sun rise. A lovely start to the day.

I've a bit more to do to clean up from Thanksgiving, but that's about all I have planned for the day.

With Thanksgiving over, I'm starting to plan menus for Christmas. There'll be either eight or nine of us, with folks here for up to a week. Company and fish, and all that! Sat, 28 Nov 2015 10:45:42 EST Friday - The Day After Turkey I went to bed early last night so I got up at 0300 this morning and would love to wake DH up and go out and just walk around the stores and get out of the house but he went to bed at 0100 so I'm gonna let him sleep. May wake my DF up to go to Lowe's. I want a bench they have for working and to just hang out with him. I love my DF but barely ever get to see him due to work.

hopefully town won't be that bad since Walmart did their BF stuff last night. Anybody venturing into the madne... Fri, 27 Nov 2015 06:26:14 EST Thursday - and Happy Thanksgiving Day! I woke up to snow this morning. Lots of snow. Looking at how much is piled up on the table outside, I'm guessing at least six inches, maybe more. It is so beautiful out! I am so not looking forward to driving in it!

One of my Congolese friends texted me about 10 last night and commented on how snowy and cold it was. I had intended to wait until today to see how things looked before telling them I'd give them a ride, but I think that was the purpose of his text. He sounded very happ... Thu, 26 Nov 2015 08:29:38 EST Wednesday - Thanksgiving Eve! How are you doing with your Thanksgiving prep? I'm doing ok. Wed, 25 Nov 2015 10:52:34 EST How to Not Insult Your Host at Holiday Meals SereneHeather just posted on The Wall that she needs to figure out how to eat sensibly without insulting her hosts. It looks like they should just miss the storms. Bill drives up to Moscow Idaho after dropping Katie off in Boise to catch a plane to Minneapolis.

Up to 6 inches of accumulation of wet snow is predicted for Wednesday and Thursday here, with temps plunging on Thursday. Tue, 24 Nov 2015 12:47:14 EST Hunger feels different! :0 So....yesterday all was going well. Scrambled eggs and diced ham for breakfast at 7.15. Black coffee with cream at 9am and 10am. Chicken, grilled halloumi cheese and sauteed veggies at 12.30pm. Had a string cheese at 5pm thinking it would see me through my 2hour dance class. It didn't.

My stomach wasn't rumbling but I was so dizzy and light headed and couldn't hold my balance in class (hip hop, so very hard cardio). Tue, 24 Nov 2015 08:14:00 EST Vaping The smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector went off this evening and we couldn't figure out why. Then it stopped. Then a few minutes later it went off again, and then it stopped. And then it went off again, and then it stopped.

My brother came out and said he'd figured out what was happening. He was "vaping" - smoking e cigarettes - and apparently that was setting off the alarm. It would go off when he opened his bedroom door, and then stop, apparently when the vapors were defused... Tue, 24 Nov 2015 00:34:05 EST Monday Bill and Katie are off to have breakfast with Bill's FIL. I have a physical therapy appointment in a little bit and then I'm off to do some more shopping.

Thanksgiving dinner went well last night. The turkey wasn't done at the main joints - the "hips" and the "shoulders," but the drumsticks were done for Bill and me and the breast was done for Mom and Katie, so that all worked out well. Sun, 22 Nov 2015 12:09:04 EST Ketosis on 30g carbs? I'm on day 3 of Atkins Induction. Wed, 18 Nov 2015 12:43:34 EST Wednesday Mom turned 90 yesterday. Her driver's license expired on her birthday and she kept putting off getting it renewed. She decided a couple of years ago that she would move to a retirement home when she couldn't drive any more. Mon, 16 Nov 2015 10:50:40 EST New to this group -- Here's a bit of my story Hi everyone.

I'm new to the group, but not to this way of eating. I've been eating low-carb on and off (mostly on but enough off to make weight loss not happen) for about a year now. After cheating a lot while on vacation in the spring and then again over the summer, I got serious about eating strictly low- carb in early October 2015, and I'm starting to see weight come off regularly again. Yay! I have been eating low-carb/high-fat lately, not just low-carb, which seems to have hel... Mon, 16 Nov 2015 08:45:09 EST Sunday Good morning, all.

Not much to say this morning; I'll be doing my pre-holiday cleanup today. Sun, 15 Nov 2015 09:00:41 EST Is eating behavior manipulated by microbes? Wow. This just blew me away. Fri, 13 Nov 2015 10:18:52 EST Thursday Physical therapy at 8:30 this morning, then some errands (I'm desperately low on TP and the cats are almost out of litter). Thu, 12 Nov 2015 09:37:21 EST Plain gelatin I don't know what the science behind it is, but my dad suggested adding a sprinkle of plain gelatin to my breakfast to stop the leg cramps. He said that Antoinette's classes are changing to the morning instead of the afternoon so we'll have to change our sessions. Which gives me a little bit more time this morning, since I don't have to be there at 9. Sun, 8 Nov 2015 10:44:44 EST Sunday Up about 7:30 this morning. I actually woke up about 6, turned on the furnace and closed the window and went back to bed. Never did really get warm again. I was fine before I got up, but those few minutes out of bed cooled off both my bed and me. I know, I could use the programmable thermostat but I don't know when I'll get up and close the window and I don't want the heater going with the window open. (A REAL Pittsburgh salad has a dinner salad sitting under steak, cole slaw, and fries, but our cafeteria swaps the cole slaw for shredded cheese and I decline the fries.) Yum!

Happy Thursday, all! Thu, 15 Oct 2015 12:18:31 EST Berberine (Glycosolve) Have you tried it? I'm aiming at lowering my fasting blood sugar levels from the 90's to 70's and some evidence indicates that Berberine may help with that.
I'm curious if anyone has tried it and how it has worked for you.

Birgit Wed, 14 Oct 2015 12:31:37 EST Wednesday, 10/14 Good morning!

What a beautiful day out there! Mon, 12 Oct 2015 11:59:11 EST Monday I should be in bed instead of here, but I'd rather be here. There are some times when I just don't want to go to bed.

A full day planned. I tutor my new learner at 9, then my old couple at 10:30, and bridge all afternoon. I need to run out to my doctor's to pick up a prescription sometime. Mon, 12 Oct 2015 02:14:42 EST Sunday Thanks for all your good wishes, everyone. They worked!

I looked up the side effects of propofol last night, and I had several of them. It does seem likely that that was what was going on with me. It's over now, though, fortunately.

The stresses of last week - the colonoscopy on Thursday, the prep (oh, the prep!), the reaction on Friday, and waiting until noon on Saturday to hear the results of the tests - apparently took a lot more out of me than I thought. I cleaned a... Sun, 11 Oct 2015 12:01:57 EST The dreaded ''STALL''. ....HELP!! in 2 days I will have been doing LCHF for 4 weeks. While the first week was AWESOME....I lost 8.4lbs....since then I've only lost 1.6 lb (over 3 weeks) for a total of 10 lbs. While this may sound great to a few, I'm bummed!!! Such a great loss week one...then it takes 3 more weeks to lose not even 2lbs more?!?! Has any one else stalled like this and how do I fix it? I guess I will be logging food again to check my calorie intake. I have 80-90 more lbs to lose so I have plenty of fat tha... Sun, 11 Oct 2015 11:10:40 EST Great video for doubters! Sat, 10 Oct 2015 21:43:17 EST Saturday Thanks for the good thoughts, everyone. I'm still waiting for results. The doc is supposed to come around this morning, but I'm on the fourth floor and the start on the first floor so it could be a while. The nurse did read the mri results from the report and it sounds like it wasn't a stroke. At least that's what it sounded like to me. I'm thinking an electrolyte imbalance from the prep stuff (they warn about that in the prep literature) and then all the water and tea I drank when I got home... Sat, 10 Oct 2015 10:09:18 EST Trying Low Carb Once Again I'm Vicki and I've been a member of sparkpeople off and on for the last 7-8 years. In that time I've managed to yo-yo myself up about 70 lbs. I'll lose some weight then get compliant and gain it back plus more. But now I'm starting to have health issues that wouldn't be as bad if I were at a smaller size.
I don't expect to ever see below 175 lbs. again but would love to see 198 lbs. again, so this is my goal to reach. As of today I'm 258 lbs., so my goal is to drop 60 lbs. Once I manag... Fri, 9 Oct 2015 17:40:41 EST Friday 10/9 Yyyyiiiippppee! Trees are gorgeous. Enjoy the fun in a day. I called the doctor's office this morning and was told that for purposes of the colonoscopy prep diet, pork is not red meat and it was ok to eat it yesterday. That means I'm still scheduled for my colonoscopy Thursday. A full liquid diet today - custards, puddings, ice cream, things like that. Tomorrow it's jello, clear broth and tea without cream.

I got a call yesterday from Mom's investment company. Mom turns 90 next month and has to make a decision about an annuity she ha... Tue, 6 Oct 2015 11:29:14 EST Monday Really quick, since I need to leave in just a few minutes. I'm off to meet my new Congolese learner. She's the daughter of the couple I tutor and needs to learn enough English to get a job. Apparently she's having trouble with that. I think she's the oldest of Antoine and Veronica's ten children and came here with her own three adult children. That's about all I know about her. Then I'll go pick up Antoine and Veronica and take them to Winco. Need to do just a little bit of shopping for mysel... Mon, 5 Oct 2015 10:54:30 EST Anti-inf ammatory low carb diet? Anyone know anything about anti-inflammatory diets? They seem to have a lot in common with low carb - eat lots of veggies and cut out or back the grains and the sugar and the alcohol and the processed foods, but also cut out or back the dairy and the saturated fats and eat lots of whole non-gluten grains and fruits and lean meat.

I developed what seems to be Trigger Thumb over a week ago, and a bit of Trigger Finger this weekend, and what I assume is a flare up of carpal tunnel sy... Sun, 4 Oct 2015 19:47:46 EST Sunday Have a great day, everyone! Sun, 4 Oct 2015 03:08:47 EST I've lurked for a few days.... And decided to take the plunge and introduce myself. I've been strictly LCHF for a few weeks now and seeing enough positive changes that I think this might....finally....after 15 YEARS of "doing the right thing according to all the experts"....the answer to my weight problem (and my insulin resistance problem, and my looming on the horizon but not there yet Diabetes 2 problem, and my NAFLD (probably) problem). The changes that I've seen have convinced me to try a little bit longer and if my b... Sat, 3 Oct 2015 16:33:03 EST Saturday Woke up early and decided to go ahead and get up. I won't be able to SP later this morning, when I usually do, because of class. And I want some breakfast before class, too.

Another cool day, though warmer than yesterday. High yesterday was only 62, about 10 degrees below normal and a big change from the high of 95 last Friday. It rained last night and is still raining/drizzling/sprinkling this morning. We really need the rain, though I don't know if this is a good time for it. I think they're trying to harvest alfalfa and beans and potatoes. It feels good to me, though.

Today feels like a lazy day, what with the rain and the clouds and the cool temp. I may be lazy today, just for the heck of it. I do meet with my Congolese family this afternoon, and I'll take them to Winco. I may make up some flash cards... Fri, 2 Oct 2015 11:00:23 EST New member Hi there, I'm new to sparkpeople, but not new to low carb. Thu, 1 Oct 2015 08:10:36 EST Thinking ahead to the 2016 Team Monthly Challenge Yeah, yeah, I know, it's not even October yet, but, as many of you know, mid-October is the time of year when I almost drop off the team. I stay crazy busy until the end of January, and one of the things that suffers is the amount of time I'm able to spend on my Spark Teams. Oh, and if that weren't enough, I decided to nursemaid another team here, the WoW Ladies group.

Therefore, I wanted to put this idea out there now and get as much input from the whole team as I can.

... I'm pretty durn proud of it, too. It doesn't roll up yet - I don't have the string for that and am trying to figure out what I have that I can use (or what I can scrounge from Mom's house!) - but it's white and lets lots of light through.
