SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard Ruby Tuesday OK, I like some songs by the stones, though I'm not a big fan. But I just wanted to kick today off with a song title with "Tuesday" in it. I'm in Germany today, France tomorrow, and back in Germany on Thursday. I'm close to the border, it's only a 90 minute drive each day.

I'll be at my mother in laws house later today. Do you know what that means? It means no internet connection. Tue, 26 Jul 2016 02:24:09 EST Massage Monday Just wanted to say HI!!!! and hope you all have a great day!

213 Mon, 25 Jul 2016 05:58:57 EST Sanguine Sunday Sore today - low back, hip, neck, headache all night - maybe from paint fumes. I opened the windows while painting but closed them before bed. It was just too hot to leave them open and let the cold air escape. I think that's the last time I paint the vaulted ceilings in this house. But the room looks great, I smiled when I woke up this morning and saw the beautiful walls.

Church this morning, then meeting my parents for dinner at a restaurant. I didn't even have a chance to get ... Sun, 24 Jul 2016 10:50:29 EST Saturated Saturday So it's about 10 am and it's already 85 with over 65% humidity. I've already gotten a 4+ mile walk in, watered flowers outside and sprayed a couple evergreen trees for bagworms - UGH!! I'm saturated with sweat and drinking tons of water. Have a good weekend! Sat, 23 Jul 2016 11:05:18 EST Fabulous Friday!!!! Wooohoo! after being sick for a week and a half, to be greeted this morning with 199.2 is just incredible! I am in tears. I really cannot remember the last time I was in the 100's. The best I can guess is either right after I had my last daughter almost 16 years ago, or right before I got pregnant with her. and I would have to guess it's the latter. :(

Getting ready for the weekend and another busy band camp week next week. trying to get my youngest to eat properly is kic... Fri, 22 Jul 2016 08:42:39 EST Thriving Thursday 'Cuz that's what we do when we quit eating all that processed carbage and eat real food instead. We thrive. We eat more veggies and meat and good fats and we cut out the sugar and unpronounceable additives and the grains and we exercise more as well as just plain move more, and we thrive.

Errands again today, though probably not as much walking as yesterday. For which my knees and feet will thank me. I have to take some stuff to the Refugee Center and some stuff to Mom's. And borr... Thu, 21 Jul 2016 10:14:41 EST How to Cook Everything FAST Mark Bittman has a new cookbook out, How to Cook Everything Fast. At least it's new to me. Over a thousand pages, and it's all recipes and other info, not a bunch of pictures.

Like his other cook books, he gives one recipe and then usually has at least one or two variations. For example, he has a recipe for Watercress with Peaches, Pecans, and Blue Cheese. Variations are Arugula with Apricots, Marcona Almonds, and Manchego; Spinach with Apples, Walnuts and Goat Cheese; and Kale wi... Wed, 20 Jul 2016 18:16:41 EST Walking Wednesday! In fact, Russell and I will be heading out in a few minutes!

Errands this morning - Walmart to pick up a few things, then I'll pick up Mom and take her to Winco, and drop a referral to a physical therapist somewhere along the way. Housework this afternoon. My oldest brother and his wife arrive tomorrow night for a visit. Fortunately, they're staying with Mom and not with me!

I sure hope the U-Pick place hurries up and opens for veggies. I'm really looking forward to zucc... Wed, 20 Jul 2016 09:09:07 EST Hello Again Hey all. Just wanted to say hi. I came around to low-carb about 5 years ago, and had great success with it. Unfortunately, I had a rebound and setback, so I'm starting over again.

Been back on track for a couple of weeks now, and ready for what's next! Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:50:03 EST Interesting article Interesting article on the link between antihistamines and weight gain. this may 100% explain why I am a slow loser, since I take allergy meds 3-5 days a week.

tamines-weight-gain
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:28:08 EST Tenacious Tuesday Yes, I slept in until 11am, and I'm still the first one awake!

I bring you Tuesday, sieze the day (Carpe Diem). Tue, 19 Jul 2016 06:08:21 EST Misty Moisty Monday I'm still adjusting to the time difference. I just woke up at 11 am here. But I still beat all of you in creating "Monday".

I'm visiting Family in Europe (more later). It is damp and there are drops of humidity on the windows this morning, even though the day is looking sunny. The lyrics from an old song by Steeleye Span popped into my head:
"One misty moisty morning when cloudy was the weather
I met with an old man a-clothed all in leather ..."

www.metrolyri... Mon, 18 Jul 2016 05:22:56 EST Super Sunday! The Whoosh Fairy visited and between us (she doesn't get all the credit!) I lost 2.6 pounds overnight and another 1.6 pounds yesterday for a total of 4.2 pounds for the two days. AND I'm under 250 AND I'm at my lowest weight all year AND I've lost 22.4 pounds in just under two months! Two months tomorrow, as a matter of fact. What a super way to start the day!

High yesterday was only 81, but high today supposed to be in the 90s. Highs all week supposed to be in the 90s, I think. I ... Sun, 17 Jul 2016 09:48:44 EST Serene Saturday Nothing planned for today except a trip to the library. Maybe the Farmers Market, but I have so many veggies already that I might skip it. I hate to, though. I always like to see what's new as the summer progresses. Sat, 16 Jul 2016 11:16:42 EST Fantabulous Friday! Greetings and Felicitations!

It is delightfully cool this morning. I do love the dry climate here, especially after coming from so many years in Indiana. I'll have to close up the east side of the house soon, though. Lots of big windows on that side of the house and the sun just pours through them, heating the whole house. I need to get some thermal drapes or something like that to keep the sun out, but that's such a shame to do when the windows were one of the reasons I bought the... Fri, 15 Jul 2016 09:51:53 EST Thankfully Thursday Good morning!

Surely Thursday will be better than yesterday. After the phone incident (still disconnected today), there was a small fire just north of the Village, the electricity was turned off, a difficult customer decided we were going out of business to scam HIM because our phone was disconnected. Fire out, electricity back on, and customer taken care of. NOW just waiting (in fetal position) for phone company to fix the phone. Thu, 14 Jul 2016 09:21:59 EST Chris Kesser OK. Have I gotten this all wrong? Chris Kesser says that a very low carb diet can induce insulin resistance?

“normal”-
blood-sugar-isn’t-normal-part-2/
Wed, 13 Jul 2016 21:09:51 EST Weedy Wednesday I sprayed about a quarter of my yard with a really strong broad leaf herbicide. Darn bindweed and thistles! The rest of the backyard needs it, too, but I mowed it on Monday. I need to let the weeds get a bit bigger before spraying.

As soon as I finish up here and finish breakfast (cottage cheese with toasted almonds, and the leftover roasted veggies from last night, both for breakfast but not combined), we're heading over to Mom's to pick up apples, thin the tree, and help make ap... Wed, 13 Jul 2016 11:54:42 EST Tasty Tuesday One of the wonderful things about eating low carb - all the wonderfully tasty things we not only can eat, but should! I'm lucky that I don't have to restrict calories very much (I aim for around 1600 to 1800 per day) so I can eat chicken skin and eggs and butter and heavy whipping cream and fatty cuts of meat with the fat still attached. But a lot of us eat more veggies now than we ever did when we were cutting calories and fat. And lots more than most people eat.

I needed to get s... Tue, 12 Jul 2016 09:47:29 EST Monday Morning Well, at least it is here and now.

Another cool day today. 53 at the moment, high of 75. A good day to get the lawn mowed, which is next on my agenda. I want to get the lawn mowed today (note that I did not say I want to mow the lawn!), do a bit of grocery shopping for vegetarian Libby, and probably go to the Falls this afternoon. We went to the Falls last week, but they cut the flow by something like 60% for irrigation and we want to see what it's like now. That's about it for tod... Mon, 11 Jul 2016 11:19:02 EST Springlike Sunday High today of 67!

Bill and the girls come back from the lake today, then Bill and Katie go home tomorrow and Libby stays here til I take her to the airport on Thursday. Then Bill and Karen (his wife) come down on Friday and stay until Sunday. Then no one is here until Nick and Jean (oldest brother and his wife) come on Thursday. That might be it until Christmas, though I need to email my nephew and other niece that if they come sometime this year, all of Mom's family will have visi... Sun, 10 Jul 2016 09:07:07 EST Serene Staurday Was feeling sick yesterday, feeling slightly better in some ways, worse in others. Today our daughter gets her Senior Pictures taken. Not sure I'm ready for this, but....

I hit my next goal number, my goals are mini right now because they are milestones. The lowest number I've been able to get to in the last 5+ years, I hit it today :) I will call it official on Monday :) Then from here I have 3 pounds to my next goal.... Onderland! It's in my reach!

Lets have a... Sat, 9 Jul 2016 09:12:53 EST Fantastic Friday! My first batch of company just left! Don't get me wrong - it's been great having them. But I've lived alone for the past 40 years or so, and it's a bit wearing to have people here all the time. They arrived last Saturday night, and my two youngest nieces arrived last Sunday. Lots of time for company, though, unlike fish, they didn't start stinking after three days!

We ate up almost all of the leftovers, and they took some of what was left and the rest of it will go either to Mom or... Fri, 8 Jul 2016 09:43:44 EST Trustful Thursday Trusting this way of eating was hard at first but gets easier and easier. I love that feeling! Thu, 7 Jul 2016 08:39:59 EST Ready to feel good again Well after a couple of years, and several gained pounds, I'm back. I loved how I felt when I was eating low-carb. I'm ready to get back at it, and work my A1C down even further! Wed, 6 Jul 2016 12:55:47 EST Wonderfully Wednesday~ A very EARLY start to this Wednesday. 3 am. Sometimes I can go back to sleep, but not this morning. So starting with great coffee and an early movie on tv. Hope all of you have a great day following whatever plan you are on. Stay the course. Don't give in to those transitory temptations but revel in success~! Wed, 6 Jul 2016 06:52:59 EST Hi! I am starting the Atkins diet next Monday. I have been on the Weight Watchers plan since Jan. 15, 2016 and have only lost 15 lbs with it going back and forth on the scale. I am getting extremely depressed with these results, so I thought I would give Atkins a try. I really need to lose the weight for health reasons. Wed, 6 Jul 2016 04:31:57 EST Tired Tuesday Dragging today. Fortunately everyone else in the house is, too, so we have a lazy day unplanned.

I've been staying up late with Russell because of the fireworks, and waking up early to feed and potty and walk him. Last night we spent the evening at Mom's so we could be in the basement where he could be away from as much of the noise as possible. He was still very upset. And then lots of people setting off their own fireworks until well after midnight. We went back to bed this morni... Tue, 5 Jul 2016 10:31:45 EST Magnificent Monday!! Perhaps not yet, but with all the celebrations in my country it should at least be exciting! Have a great day but be SAFE! Mon, 4 Jul 2016 08:11:23 EST Hey Y'all! I started on SP in 2010 at 314lbs. Followed plans, set goals, had set backs and eventually had wls in 2013. Its not for everyone but has been the best decision I could have made. I'm down to 189 but would like to be 160-165.
I left SP during my surgery process because I had so much support around me but then we relocated to a new state. I lost my team. I've been struggling for the past year trying to find support then I remembered SP. This site started it all for me and I'm excited to b... Sun, 3 Jul 2016 13:41:32 EST Sunrise Sunday Up early today! Fri, 1 Jul 2016 10:07:45 EST FINALLY Friday! Been a long week! looking forward to a long weekend! :) Fri, 1 Jul 2016 09:19:10 EST Thursday - The End Well, at least "the" is alliterative!

Happy last day of June. Can you believe it? Seems like once the 4th of July hits, the summer is practically over.

Doctor's appointment this morning with a hand surgeon about carpal tunnel surgery, then Mom and I will do the first round of shopping for the company that starts coming on Saturday. So much food I need to get! And so much stuff that I don't eat or normally even have in the house. And no idea what anyone really likes. <BR... Thu, 30 Jun 2016 08:41:59 EST Sometimes my msg. does get across I was engaged in a conversation with a friend this morning, that was told something to do with Low Carb eating, and she replied "My friend MJ said that!" It made me feel really good to be able to get some of my learned knowledge across to a friend! Yippee! I'm thanking you guys as well. I don't do well with the scientific part of it. I am better with experience and others experiences as well. I don't try to relay that knowledge, because I'm still befuddled by the terms and facts, I get ... Wed, 29 Jun 2016 14:34:17 EST Wallflower Wednesday Are you being a wallflower in your journey? Wed, 29 Jun 2016 08:22:54 EST Terrific Tuesday! A friend is moving across town, so I offered her the use of some of my boxes. I thought she was coming yesterday, but received a text about 10 pm saying she would come today to get them. I texted that I would be gone from 9:30 to 11:30, and she said she would come by at 7 am! I guess I need to be up and decent by then. I'm up, anyway, sort of, to open up the house. A very strange dream led to my waking up about 5:30, so I got up and opened up the house and turned on the ceiling fans. Will tak... Tue, 28 Jun 2016 07:52:00 EST Melting Monday Supposed to get up to 100, instead of about 86 like it should be. Strange how 100 is so much hotter than the 98 they were predicting as of yesterday!

My brother has been saying for a month or so that he'll bring his sailboat down while the girls are here, and take oldest niece and her two girls out sailing all day next Friday, then spend a couple of days with youngest niece (his daughter) teaching her how to sail. Then yesterday he said that he hadn't looked into docking facilities... Mon, 27 Jun 2016 10:55:35 EST Sizzling Sunday Highs back up in the 90s again (was in low 70s on Friday), except for tomorrow when it's supposed to reach 100. And it's supposed to stay in the 90s for at least the next 15 days. Ugh. But it's supposed to be clear, and we get delightfully cool nights here in the desert. And the humidity is really low. A couple of days ago the dew point was 23!

The only thing officially on my calendar today is bridge at Mom's house tonight. One of the couples who used to play in an eightsome with h... Sun, 26 Jun 2016 07:54:50 EST Carbohydrate counting and exchange lists

isease/diabetes/carbohydrate-counting-
and-exchange-lists

Found this article today.Read through it, and of course not agreeing with the amounts. Unless maybe for a maintenance which makes more sense. But incorporating too many high carb items to me, like pasta's and fruits. But then again it may work for maintenance. 45 carbs per day makes a lot of sense then. But to lose weight, the best is to keep way lower. When I... Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:08:32 EST Serendipitous Saturday A cold front came through yesterday, with highs in the low 70s. It's supposed to be warmer, today, high around 80. Then back up into the 90s for the next couple of weeks. Ugh. In the meantime, the house is opened up as opened as I can get it, with ceiling fans pulling in the delightfully cool air, and I'm sitting here under a blanket because it's cold!

A neighbor wants to go walking with Russell and me this morning, then I'm going to the Farmer's Market, then probably over to Mom's... Sat, 25 Jun 2016 08:31:22 EST Fragile Friday Looking for a good adjective for today. Hard to find one that expresses my feelings given the UK vote to leave the Europen Union after 43 years.

Broken, and fragile. Now the Scots probably want to stay in the EU, and raise a vote for independence again.

I wonder, with this political turmoil in Europe, will it flow over in spirit, into the US.

One of my daughters who has dual citizenship (German and Canadian) has been living and working in London for the last 3... She is super phenomenal. WOW Thu, 23 Jun 2016 15:36:04 EST True or False Hi Team Mates,

I have 2 diet facts that I have been mulling over. Do you know if these are true or false?

1. If you eat less than 1200 calories a day you will slow your metabolism and not get enough nutrients. I have been doing about 900 calories for the last 10 days and I am not hungry. I have a small stature so my starting point is low.

2. Homemade sourdough bread is a low carb food. Like this recipe It doesn't seem... Thu, 23 Jun 2016 15:17:06 EST Going strong! I'm lucky enough to have a primary care physician in a practice that offers a Body and Wellness program to the patients. It involves a visit every other week (at least in the begininning), nutrition, exercise and psychological guidance relating to getting healthy. I started the program in April. The nutrition program consists of a low carb/high protein/moderate fat way of eating. I had my visit this morning. Since I started the program on Aptil 14,2016, I've lost 36.6 pounds and 10.25 inches ... Thu, 23 Jun 2016 10:32:18 EST Thinner Thursday The scale finally moved - in the right direction! And I felt all day that my pants were a bit baggy. I like it!

Nothing formally on my social calendar today except tutoring. Also house work and yard work, of course. I woke up about 5:30 and started the sprinklers going. Got to get that done before it gets too hot. And while it's still legal, too, of course. We can't water between 9 am and 5 pm.

Another hot day today, then a cold front moves in and the highs go down to th... Thu, 23 Jun 2016 07:59:41 EST Food For Thought Recently I came across
these parmesan cheese whisps at Costco. They really are amazing when you are looking for something for a camp trip as I was. A serving is 15 whisps and that has less than 1g of carbs. They taste good but they are strong so a few are satisfying.

Another thing I came across today that surprised me.

hin-sliced

I was with my oldest shopping at Costco and ... Wed, 22 Jun 2016 18:50:17 EST WOE Wednesday Work your way of eating today. It's a lifestyle! Wed, 22 Jun 2016 08:21:22 EST Take a chance Tuesday Try something new! Tue, 21 Jun 2016 09:00:50 EST How's your A1C? I must admit I'm a little disappointed in mine. After 2 years on low carb it has lowered from 5.7 to 5.5. Though according to popular definitions that means I am no longer pre-diabetic, some people think the cut off should be 5.5.. I guess I just expected my test result was going to be lower so I am a little sad. I really put a lot of energy into staying healthy kwim? I regularly test my blood sugar, fasting and after food and it's so rarely over 100 at any time, even after eating something c... Mon, 20 Jun 2016 09:55:08 EST Summer Monday It's here. Summer. The longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere.

So the days have actually been pretty long up to today. In fact, after today they get shorter again. Enjoy the summer! Mon, 20 Jun 2016 09:16:43 EST Trying to find balance Hello, all.

We are in summer, full-swing. The graduation hoopla has died down. Everyone has returned home to where they live. And I JUST NOW have gotten the house in order. (Sometimes it takes me awhile - anyone work this way?)

In fact, all this week, I've been working on one area - my desk. At first, I set the goal to just clean off the top of my desk. But then I decided to go further and go through my drawers. Well, one of my drawers is a filing cabinet, so of course I... Mon, 20 Jun 2016 09:15:15 EST Yay! no headache today! Good news, I woke up this morning and the headache I have had off and on for two days is gone! I must have finally got my sodium levels up enough. Now just to keep them up lol. Also good news, my ketositx tested positive for ketones! It was a light purple, but, I just started atkins on friday so that is a good sign of ketosis begining. Sun, 19 Jun 2016 11:38:25 EST Happy Father's Day! Ok, so it doesn't have "Sunday" in the topic line, nor does it have alliteration, but that's today's thread anyway!

Woke up at 5:30, took some tylenol and went back to sleep until 7, when I got up. I'm hoping the early tylenol will keep the aches and pains away. Took Russell for a short walk. Will get out and do some stuff in the garden after I'm finished here. May take Mom for a drive this afternoon. Haven't decided myself, nor have I asked her. We'll see.

Hope you're a... Sun, 19 Jun 2016 10:37:46 EST High Steppin' Saturday I need to get out there - now! After highs in the upper 60s through Thursday, it's supposed to get up into the mid 80s today. Russell and I need to get out while it's still cool! I'm a real wimp when it comes to heat.

Have a great day! Sat, 18 Jun 2016 09:26:52 EST When you cook for nonlowcarbers Hi Team,

I am back to low carb after more than a year away. I have 4-6 other people at home and I do all the cooking. It is easy to do a meat, veggie and potato meal for everyone. I can just skip the potato.

I often plan nice low carb high fat meals but then feel bad when the boys break out the loaf of bread or high sugar dessert afterwards. Isn't it especially bad for their health to do the high fat and add high sugar on top. Is this true?

Tonight I mentione... Fri, 17 Jun 2016 19:02:04 EST low energy on first day? wow, I know it is normal to be tired a couple days into atkins/low carb but I didnt realize it would happen on first day lol! I am so tired I can barely hold my eyes open. I just had to make another cup of coffee to keep me awake. Hope how soon I go into ketosis so I can start burning some fat for energy because I have NO energy right now. But, on a good note, I'm not the least bit hungry :P Fri, 17 Jun 2016 14:37:02 EST Fresh Friday So, unlike yesterday, I decided to start Friday off early. It is technically Friday where I am, just after midnight. So good night and see you tomorrow, ... I mean later today. Fri, 17 Jun 2016 02:40:42 EST Tag Along Thursday I can't believe its this late and no daily post...not fair for Thursday to tag along with Wednesday. Friday Eve deserves its own thread, lol. So here we go... Thu, 16 Jun 2016 12:00:41 EST got my grocery shopping done! well, I got my grocery shopping done today. Now I can start back on atkins tomorrow. I would start today but I have already had more carbs in my breakfast than I should have all day lol.

I bought enough meat, eggs, and cheese to last the next five days until payday. I also bought some cabbage and collard greens, and lettuce, and pickles. I also bought some coconut oil and unsalted butter to have my bulletproof coffee for breakfast this week. I already had mayonnaise and som... Thu, 16 Jun 2016 10:43:01 EST Question re hostessing As I've mentioned several times lately, I'm having a bunch of company the first week of July. My oldest niece, her two daughters (10 and 13), and my two youngest nieces (13 and 16). My brother (father of the two youngest nieces) will be here a couple of days and Mom will be over here for some meals.

I don't expect them to eat like I do, and will provide starches for most of the meals. Toast for breakfast, unless they have waffles or French toast. Probably sandwiches for lunch, wit... Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:49:09 EST What, it's Wednesday? Again? LITTLESAPPHIRE,

Following yesterday's dizzy/ weakness, I tend to agree with MOMTOMONKEYS2. It sounds very much like a hydration and electrolyte issue. Wed, 15 Jun 2016 09:04:06 EST Totally Tuesday Good morning, all. I only have a minute to post (yup, another one of THOSE days at work), but I wanted to ask you folks a favor. My niece has been having a pretty rough year and yesterday she had to put down her sweet little rescue doggie, Lucy. She was only about 6 years old.

There's not much I can do to cheer her up but I think she would be comforted to get some support and condolences on her SparkPage:

TLREDCORVETTE </li... Sun, 12 Jun 2016 10:26:54 EST Dr. Berenstein I was wondering if anyone has followed Dr. Berenstein's diet protocol? It doesn't look like there is any fat?
Two small servings of protein a day 2 very large servings of veggie and two fruits per day. Have I missed something? I am going to have less low carb veggies and NO atkins shakes and NO ready whip with strawberries lol (I know small amounts of that can be eaten but I cant resist the ready whip in my fridge so better if I just avoid it).

I found this board to be very supporti... As motivation to keep me moving, I purchased a push behind mower (battery powered---pretty cool---no gas or oil to fool with) and I now take care of my 1.25 acre property myself rather than paying someone else to mow for me. It's great exercise and I have a pretty good sense of accomplishment when I'm done and it's constant motivation to do it in order to keep the grass from getting too high. I pretty much mow every other day or rotation.... Sun, 29 May 2016 10:31:57 EST Another low-carb lifestyle resource I found this website through a post on another SP team forum I belong to. I like them with my coffee, but always seem to be too high for my under 20 carbs a day. I like the muffin in the mug, but would make a dozen to use throughout the week. Any suggestions???

<img src=" Fri, 6 May 2016 11:51:07 EST Freedom Friday! Breathe! I'm attempting to use Postive Words to Boost!

I found SparkPeopleTV for exercise. Hugs Fri, 6 May 2016 09:17:31 EST Back to LC Hi everyone :) My name's Julie. I've been a member of Spark for a long time, and even managed to lose 30 pounds back when I first joined. That was doing low calorie though, and it didn't stick for very long. So now I'm back and I'm trying low carb. I've been moderately low carb for about four years, but some seriously traumatic life stuff last fall helped me gain 30 pounds. So now I want to lose that plus another 20 pounds and be back at the best weight I've ever been at.

I... Thu, 5 May 2016 15:26:10 EST Theatrical Thursday! Been trying to think about how things are going for us with our WOE, and how our attitudes have really changed in the last few months. I am so much more calm, I quit driving myself crazy with micromanaging all I was eating, we are both losing weight at a respectable pace, things are good.

DH was SO frustrated this am. I've only played with this group three times. Sat, 30 Apr 2016 13:36:03 EST Sassy Saturday Nothing much planned for today except getting ready for Bunco on Monday. I'm having eleven women (twelve, including me) over for "snacks" and then an afternoon of Bunco. Which means the house has to be cleaned and tidied and I have to figure out the food. And then fix the food. And I have to go to Mom's house and borrow a couple of card tables and some chairs.

Cloudy today, possible chance of showers. But back in the 70s starting on Tuesday. Tue, 26 Apr 2016 18:39:44 EST The Wrong Kind of Food Indifference The last two days I've been struggling with food indifference. Nothing really sounds good. Yesterday I had half my eggs and sausage and then drank coffee w/ hwc until 3:00 when I went home and served myself up some Cheesecake Fluff. My fluff had cocoa in it. I'm not sure why I was thinking about LC, other than I was just sick and tired of going around the carb merry-go-round. The more I ate, the more I wanted. I was going up instead of down on the scale and beating myself up all the time. Anyway, when I tried LC yrs ago, I went for zero and got burnt out real quick. Since then, I've learned a thing or two about healthy eating. It CAN be done, and I like this way of eating for me. I feel ... Fri, 22 Apr 2016 08:48:21 EST Meat Ok Almost 2 months on Low Carb. I'm diabetic type 2 and did a very low carb diet for a long time, but had different problems with it and started to experiment. I've eliminated a lot of different foods from my diet (dairy, sugar, gluten, grains) and to make up for all of that I started to add a few carbby things that I didn't normally eat like fruit and starchy vegs. I'm not happy because I have that body type that is apple shaped and my belly is back. So I started Sparks for the ... Sun, 10 Apr 2016 14:30:11 EST Plain, unadorned Sunday! That's for Leone, who didn't like it yesterday's topic line of "Saturday."

We had thunder for about an hour yesterday evening. Long, low rumbles of thunder, not sharp sudden claps. I just started on Atkins yesterday and already have so many questions! :) Sun, 20 Mar 2016 23:31:13 EST Serene Sunday Good morning! Serenity seems to be my goal more and more these days!

Nothing much planned today, just tackling laundry - I have one stinky load that is resisting being unstunk. Third time's the charm I hope.

And I need to turn my attention to job searching for Kyle. He's flopping badly on this, and if it's going to get done it's going to be me that finds him a job. *sigh* It is what it is.

Think I might plan a day off for midweek too. I won't have too many mor... Sun, 20 Mar 2016 10:32:12 EST Soothing Sunday What will you be doing today to create a soothing and positive beginning to your coming week?

I plan to take a long hot Epsom salt bath to relax and enjoy. What are your plans? Sun, 20 Mar 2016 10:28:04 EST Strong Saturday I got up and did my strength training video and now I’m feeling great. Have a haircut and color today, need to work on DS picture board for the hockey banquet at the end of the month, get groceries, do laundry, etc. Taking my mom to the symphony tonight. Technically, she’s taking me since she’s the one with the extra ticket, but I’m driving. Music is not really my thing, but the friend she usually goes with is out of town and I don’t think she’ll go by herself. Sat, 19 Mar 2016 09:11:55 EST Feisty Friday Struggling today with motivation, but that's ok. Thinking it's getting ready for "shark week" (how dumb is that name? I just call it TOM), and as hard as I'm trying I am stuck. I am one pound away ONE POUND AWAY from the Teens!!!! just going to keep moving and pray it eventually goes down.

BTW, BB, yesterday that butter with the chicken was the only butter I had all day. ;) Fri, 18 Mar 2016 10:35:42 EST 1 year on plan today is one year I changed to eating Atkins 1972 induction food list only.

I ate that way for about 5 months or so and then dropped all veggies and went into a zero carb plan, about 7 months now.

my original goal weight was 170. I am 9 lbs. off that goal. So close!
234 lbs. seemed so big to me back then, but I love I am sitting here at 179 right now.

then I changed to 160 and boy that seems far away but I will get there eventually :)

One thi... Fri, 18 Mar 2016 06:52:22 EST TopsyTurvy Thursday 3-17 another day going

had some bacon.

not hungry at all. don't know when I will eat but I have a ribeye with my name on it when wanted

I love non hungry days, they are the best! I hope it holds for a while, not thinking or caring about food is such a nice break!!

sunny and warm and working outside doing this and that. working in RV getting it ready for summer beach trips. Love my toyhauler :) we camp like crazy....well, camping isn't really what it... Thu, 17 Mar 2016 11:28:16 EST Wow! It's Wednesday! Already! :) Keep this week moving along! Just got in a 15 min workout, kind small wheezing, so will keep an eye on that. Hope it's not exercise asthma, but the other thought it something I My allergies can be so fun.

the girls are in school the rest of the week, but are doing nothing. Our Basketball team is at State finals today, and if they win, they play on Friday as well. I heard last night 1100 of the 1700 students are going to the game today! So, not much g... Wed, 16 Mar 2016 08:51:47 EST New book Quick & Easy Ketogenic Cooking: Meal Plans and Time Saving Paleo Recipes to Inspire Health and Shed Weight by Maria Emmerich

It is fantastic- not just cooking- EVERYTHING you need to know even if you think you know everything!! LOL! Wed, 16 Mar 2016 08:46:13 EST It's Tuesday! And I'm already up, yuck. I hate when I wake up right before DH's alarm goes off. I just can't get back into a deep sleep. I guess 5 hours is just gonna have to do today. Thank goodness for coffee!

Nothing too challenging on my work agenda, luckily. I leave early for a doctor's appointment. Yay! I get to cross that off my list on the challenge thread.

On the upside, I guess I get to play a bit before work today.

DH is just leaving for work and I noticed again... Tue, 15 Mar 2016 06:33:06 EST Different types of milk for recipes I have been having problems getting my blood sugars under control even eating low carb. They insist on staying in the 150s. So I was talking with someone on diet and oils (meds are giving me problems) and she said to keep carbs low and also mentioned that cows milk will often turn into sugars in the blood stream. Guess that is due to the lactose. So I am wondering if substituting plain almond milk will work if I am making something like a white sauce. I know the sweetened one would taste... Mon, 14 Mar 2016 19:45:59 EST How to Make Your Spark Tracker LC I know there were some people asking about this a few weeks ago and I read this on the Paleo forum and thought I would share in case it helps anyone.

"There is a setting for it on here, in the Nutrients to Track (like additional vitamins). It is Carbs for Low Carb Diet. It is not 100%, eyeball it to see if it is logical."
Mon, 14 Mar 2016 19:22:04 EST Do I Go Lower or Higher? Well. I hit the stall. Mind you its only been 1 week but still want to shake it up if possible. Do I go super low in my carb grams or do I go a little higher? What shakes you up when you stall??? Mon, 14 Mar 2016 12:18:03 EST Top teeth loose after eating? This hasn't ever really happened before, so it's kinda strange, the last 2 weeks every now and again (I think mostly after beef) my top teeth are loose. I can move them, feel them clicking and popping. I wonder if it's that I can't have beef any more :(

Does this happen to anyone else? Mon, 14 Mar 2016 11:36:20 EST Sleepy Monday Ushindi and I went to a pizza place for supper, and I had diet Pepsi. I had forgotten that I shouldn't have caffeine that late if I want to sleep at night, and when I got to the dispenser and didn't see anything both diet and caffeine free, it didn't occur to me to have water instead. So it's 2 am and I'm still up. Just about to head to bed though. Thought I might as well get things started while I'm still up.

Also sleepy Monday because we haven't adjusted yet to Daylight Savings ... Mon, 14 Mar 2016 04:03:29 EST corned beef and cabbage? I have a corned beef I have pulled out of the freezer, figured I can do it in the crockpot. But I am at a loss for cabbage. I don't do cabbage (long story) but hubby wants it (he's trying to lc too), and so I bought a head of cabbage. How do I cook it? Simple terms please! I'm a good cook, but I don't know what spices to use, do I boil it or fry it? Big chunks or shredded?

We live in TN, so I'm going up against "momma's" cabbage. do I use bacon fat, or butter? do I just sa... Sun, 13 Mar 2016 15:32:44 EST Slowwww Sunday I am taking it slow today.

are you guys rocking it out and taking this Sunday fast or slow? :) :)

hi all

Down 1/2 lb....WEE...will take all I can get whenever I can get it --LOL

easy exercise tape
little treadmill or try to run out between rain drops and work on front beds with mulch. will see if weather cooperates.

3 egg omelet with alot of bacon and little melty cheese, haven't been eating cheese much lately. sounds delish. ... Sun, 13 Mar 2016 09:45:40 EST Blue Man Group was ah-may-zing! We didn't get in until after midnight, but we had SO MUCH FUN as a family last night! (It was long overdue!)

We invited the kids to dinner with us. (They were under the impression that my husband and I were going away for the weekend.) During dinner, we told them where we were going. They were appropriately excited. 246

Our seats were GREAT! 4th row! It was a tight fit, but we had a blast. When our family goes anywhere, we do two things:

1) strike... Sun, 13 Mar 2016 09:27:48 EST Brain Maker, by Dr. David Perlmutter He's the author Grain Brain.

Our local PBS station has a special program with him talking about his book Brain Maker, which talks about how a strong gut leads to a strong brain. He advocates prebiotics (high fiber foods that feed the good bacteria in the gut) and probiotics (fermented foods to increase the good bacteria), plus eating low carb. Sat, 12 Mar 2016 16:55:55 EST I wrote last night Last night, I felt like writing for the first time in a long time (you'll see how sporadic my postings are on my site). I just began pouring out what I felt. I haven't "arrived" at any sharp conclusions. I'm just letting my mind process.

I'd love some input.

e-been-thinking-keepin-it-real-series.
html
Sat, 12 Mar 2016 07:48:00 EST Super Saturday 3-12 gonna rain soon. dark clouds hanging out there. pfffft. wanted an outdoor day.

so inside treadmill high incline
1 easy exercise tape

just to move the body. Sat, 12 Mar 2016 07:02:05 EST No Carbs needed! article from 5-2015 from the Huffington Post:

love this!!

Of all the nutrition and fitness misconceptions I hear, this is the front-runner for most ridiculous:

"I need carbohydrates for energy."

If that's the case, how did we survive and thrive as hunter-gatherers on less than 80g of carbohydrates per day? While still managing to chase down a wild boar, climb a tree to escape a pack of wolves, walk five miles and back to gather fresh water, and gath... Sat, 12 Mar 2016 06:38:03 EST FANtastic Friday! Thu, 10 Mar 2016 10:48:46 EST Wild Wednesday In a good way, I hope!

Actually, today should be a pretty calm day. I'll go over to Antoine and Veronica's house this morning for our tutoring session, though it will mostly be filling out Veronica's Jury Duty notice (she's Congolese, doesn't speak, read or write English, is 66 and has only been in the US since June, and she's already been selected for jury duty!) and talking to Dela about the legal system (he was chased by dogs in December and fell off his bike, breaking his kneec... Wed, 9 Mar 2016 00:54:11 EST Emotional Eating I'm beset by this problem, have been for years, maybe since Childhood. there's a photo of me at age 4 where I was thin as a rail but by age six I believe, I was chubby and remained chubby til my first diet at age 17 I guess.

Im starting this thread because I can't find one on the subject and I thought it would be a blessing to some of us to group any helps or thoughts on this subject together for future reference.

two articles here on Spark people that I'd like to be ab... Tue, 8 Mar 2016 08:44:42 EST Added carbs, lost pounds! I've been mostly doing Zero Carb/Very Very Low Carb for the past couple of months or so, and it worked at first, to get off some of the weight I gained over Thanksgiving and Christmas. But then it stopped. I've been gaining and losing the same pound or two for a few weeks now.

I remembered that in the past I needed to add carbs to lose weight, so decided to go back to low carb instead of ZC/VVLC, and today I lost two pounds and got through that barrier!

I'm going to gr... Mon, 7 Mar 2016 10:44:43 EST Mahhhhvelous Monday Happy Monday everyone! just 4 days until friday! :) LOL

I will be joining Woubbie in the Kitchen Zone this week, I really want to start decluttering a room a week in this house- including the kids rooms. That's 8 rooms and a large walk in pantry that is more storage than it should be.....I told hubby this weekend that if we can't get this done, then the end of april I will take a few days up to a week off work to do this, because I don't want to stress like I always do about g... Mon, 7 Mar 2016 08:17:28 EST The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up Has anyone read this book? It's amazing!

I'm almost done with it, but throughout the book, I find myself looking around at my surrounding and thinking of things that I know I will par down.

Admittedly, when I read it, since it's based heavily on Japanese culture (and religion), I find some of the practices ... strange. (Thanking an item for serving its purpose, for example). But it's really not all THAT strange (I thank God every day for a beautiful day/sky/etc).
... Sun, 6 Mar 2016 19:14:25 EST tidying/de cluttering - ugh! Did you see the news recently that a cluttered kitchen may lead to overeating? There seems to be a connection between the two, though maybe not causation. Or maybe it is causation. Anyway, if there is a correlation, we might as well work on the clutter as well as the food, right?

I don't know about you, but my house is a disaster. When I moved in here everything was so pristine and clean and I was sure I'd keep it that way. Well, I did - for a couple of months. It won't get back to... I kind of want the dressing taste. I love caesar dressing. I think what I might do is make some chicken thighs and just dip in the dressing. why not right? I don't need lettuce as a vehicle, I can put a little on anything I want...I mean I love chicken in the dressing, why not eliminate the mi... Sun, 6 Mar 2016 09:22:27 EST
