SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard We will discuss low carb lifestyles (including Atkins,Protein Power, South Beach and other doctor-recommended low carb plans), trade low carb recipes and team up to do this together! SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard New to LCHF Hello to All,

New to this way of eating, but it isn't a difficult change, but going from homemade green shakes without sugar to cooking again is. I used to cook, and enjoy it, so it should become a good enjoyable habit again. Eating this way is helping reduce chronic nausea post cancer, and get chronic migraines from daily 24/7 even with meds, to weather only and controlled with meds! I hope it may help me lose weight docs say is impossible without a thyroid. Getting blood suga... Sat, 22 Oct 2016 22:08:15 EST Newbie here! I am not new to SparkPeople but I will soon be new to Low Carb living. I will get married on November 6th and my husband to be, John, eats low carb. That will be good for me as I should be eating that way already....rather than all the carbs I eat. I will be eating, and cooking low carb beginning after our wedding!

521 Sat, 22 Oct 2016 19:21:06 EST Happy Saturday! I woke up fairly early (for me) today. I only seemed to need 7.5 hours of sleep, which is a great sign that I may have finally gotten close to being "caught up on sleep"! Woohoo! A long time ago my typical nightly sleep needs were somewhere between 7 and 8 hours, but for decades I often got by on 5-6 during the weekdays. Then I'd make up for it by sleeping really long hours on the weekends - 10 hours, usually. This is a very hopeful sign that all those little habits I've been tweaking for so ... Sat, 22 Oct 2016 10:22:22 EST Fabulous Friday Happy Friday! I’m off today, just took some paleo pumpkin bars out of the oven. DH was on top of things this year and already gave me my birthday gift. Well, mostly on top of things, he forgot a card but that’s OK, expensive cards annoy me. He got me wireless headphones which I have been wanting, they’re charging right now and I can’t wait to try them out. And a gift card for Dick’s Sporting Goods to buy whatever I need for my bike. I have a full day planned and am off to enjoy it. Have a gre... Fri, 21 Oct 2016 10:28:49 EST Thanksgivin' 2016 at the KittenCoder Abode! But oh! so grateful that we do have elections!

Local political forum last night for candidates for state senate and house. Federal debate tonight. Forum for county commissioners tomorrow night.

This is pretty much a one-party state, and it's not my party. Had to keep reminding myself last night that a large part of the reason the in-party thought things were going pretty well and my party... Wed, 19 Oct 2016 11:14:17 EST Totally Tuesday... What is it about Tuesdays? They seem to have the least personality of all the days of the week. No credibility, pizzazz, excitement. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say thank goodness its Tuesday.
Personally, waking up with a pinched nerve in my neck isn't helping. Gotta head to the chiropractor today. A need, not a want. Found out I shouldn't be mopping floors anymore. Not sure what that means. No more housework? Hmmm..That shouldn't be so bad right? Unfortunately... Tue, 18 Oct 2016 09:27:11 EST Moody Monday Where is everybody?

Not stormy anymore, but still gloomy here. Mon, 17 Oct 2016 11:43:53 EST Sweet, Sweet Sunday Hopefully just saying it makes it so!

This is a "loose ends" weekend for me. Still tying them up! Feels good! Sun, 16 Oct 2016 10:07:50 EST Sticking it Saturday Just gonna stick with this woe! I've got this! How about ya'll? Sat, 15 Oct 2016 09:58:40 EST Friday Freedom... Just trying to come up with a good title....freedom is resonating with me. I'm free from carb cravings. Free for the day. Live in a free society. Life is good. Keep counting my blessings and not focus on the negative today. Fri, 14 Oct 2016 12:11:27 EST Thursday's best! Today is a challenge for me. I'm pretty angry with my DH right now and I really need to figure out how to let go of the anger without letting go of the resolve to do what I need to do. I'm using it as a movement catalyst, which is fine, but the anger is festering and that's not fine. So today, gotta figure out how to let go of that anger without losing the movement that has come with it.
So for anyone out there who needs to let go of something, use today as that change. We only... Thu, 13 Oct 2016 09:38:46 EST Inositol I thought I would post about what I have been doing lately.... maybe inositol supplement could help someone else... the studies are relatively new...

I tried very low carb. Tried fat fasts also... Couldn't shed a single pound! My blood sugar tests are all normal, thyroid is normal, etc. Been checked out by several doctors. They are pretty much NO HELP! I've asked to have them look more in depth at my blood sugars. But what do i know? ha ha I live in a rural area and there is a limi... Wed, 12 Oct 2016 14:14:47 EST Wonderful, Wacky Wednesday! Tue, 11 Oct 2016 05:58:31 EST Moving Monday let's get moving today! ;)

Still slight wheeze/cough, but decidedly better than last week this time. I am no wondering how I made it through the entire week feeling as crappy as I did! LOL

DH and DD18 left house at 7:15 this am to go to a College Visit about 3 hrs away (University of Memphis). Hoping she likes it .. but not tooo much! ;) Having her visit TSU( Tennessee State University) this week as well, since it is a 30 min drive and she could live from home a... Mon, 10 Oct 2016 09:47:05 EST new to team and Atkins Hi

My name is Kris. I'm a long time sparker...but trying something new, Atkins.

I'm married to a wonderful guy, we have a Harley and I love riding with him. Think I need to make a delicious dinner tonite. Not sure what it is but a Sunday Supreme sounds like something that needs to be made. Not that I eat much nowadays! LOL. Just a small appetite with this way of eating. A few bites and I'm done. Weight is moving again after being pretty much stagnant for a couple months. With the move and all the rest going on I'm not unhappy to just have placeheld for that time. I've been right on target with what I've been eating so its just one of tho... Sun, 9 Oct 2016 07:53:44 EST Suddenly Saturday This week went by so fast! Where does it go?

Made some amazing fish fillets for lunch with butter lemon and dill sauce. Also ordered a blood pressure monitor and received it today, to keep an eye on it at home. Sometimes on trips to the doctor's it is elevated but seems to do better at home. Sat, 8 Oct 2016 09:44:29 EST Fat Friday Fat as in low carb high fat!

Hi everyone! I'm going to sleep but I wanted to create the post for the day lol.

Also, anybody have any recommendations for peanut butter fat bomb / snack things? There are lots of recipes out there but I feel you all are more dependable to help me find the good ones.

199 Fri, 7 Oct 2016 09:04:08 EST Thrifty Thursday Today was a thrifty day for me. I headed out to the Chinese wholesale market, a massively huge place with acres upon acres of shops with everything you can imagine at bargain prices. I needed winter clothing for my boys and some household items. My legs are tired from all the walking but the prices were great! It just takes forever to play the hide-and-seek game to find what you want.

Now it's time to head off to the kitchen. I will make a big chicken salad with homemade dressing, ... Thu, 6 Oct 2016 05:40:35 EST Article about different types of protein This was in Mark Sisson's email today, and was an interesting read. We're all pretty conscious of "eating enough protein", but we don't often look very deeply at the sources of the various amino acids we need.

ety-of-your-protein-sources-matters/?a
wt_l=BrSE.&awt_m=JtDnDQXiehWvYa
Wed, 5 Oct 2016 16:46:46 EST Wet Wednesday Why is it a wet Wednesday? Because I decided to give my cat a bath! Furious yowling clawing kitty did not appreciate my efforts.

After cleaning up the mess in the bathroom I decided I was on a roll and washed the kitchen screens and did some kitchen dejunking. This is the first vacation I've had where I stayed home so lots to do, along with catching up on reading and some shows.

My son's recovery is going well. I didn't have any classic withdrawal symptoms, no headache or anything. I was drinking about 8 to 10 cups every morning, and just went instantly to zero.

Peppermint tea today.

Various physical problems are clearing up. Tue, 4 Oct 2016 09:06:33 EST Malady Monday Still sick here, had no voice when I woke up, talking to the family has helped that at least, but still plugged ears, stuffy nose, cough and sweating.

Put a whole chicken in the crockpot this am on high for 8-9 hrs, then I will make some chicken soup out of it! :) wheeeeeee

sigh. Sat, 1 Oct 2016 11:07:12 EST Sagging Saturday After last night, kicking the kids out is looking like the best option. DD went out with friends, apparently drank too much, had DS go get them, and came home around 2:30 this morning. Then I heard her banging around for the next 90 minutes. So PO’d. She’s getting a warning today. If this happens again, she has to leave. I’m not putting up with this. On top of that, her dog is a barker and she barked when DS came home, when he left to get DD, when they came home , and again this morning at 7:... He replied that he had driven it fine for 9 years, and that cars are sold as-is. Fortunately he was retired at that point, so he didn't have to go to the office with the "former" colleague everyday. Tue, 27 Sep 2016 09:57:48 EST A Great BLOG by one of our own..... RAMONA did a bang up job on this blog! Sun, 25 Sep 2016 09:06:52 EST Sleepless Saturday I'm not getting back on schedule like I'd hoped to. After being mostly awake for 23 hours while traveling home, I went to sleep around 9 Thursday night (05:00 Dublin time). I was only able to sleep about 6 hours, and could not get back to sleep to save my life, same for my daughter and SIL (sharing motel room). We gave up on getting back to sleep and hit the road around 4. I was dozey all day after getting home and went to bed around 10, couldn't sleep for an hour, woke some time before ... Sat, 24 Sep 2016 08:40:02 EST Finally Friday! Though Friday isn't that big a deal for me any more, since I'm retired. (Where's the emoticon for gloating?) Thu, 22 Sep 2016 10:16:08 EST What is going on Wednesday I am shaking my head at what is going on today. It started with a call at 5 am from my 23 year old son at the hospital! It had been riding his bicycle home at 1 a.m and a motorcycle coming the wrong way down the street hit him head on! TG son was wearing a helmet and only broke his collar bone, compared to the motorcycle driver who was knocked unconscious. My son didn't call me until the doctors told him he would be OK. I am just thanking the Lord over and over as it could have been so much w... Wed, 21 Sep 2016 08:36:10 EST Tired Tuesday Did not sleep well at all last night. Don't know why. Tonight will be much better, I'm sure.

I'm sure I'm not going to get much sympathy from the rest of you, but I got up at a little after 6 am today. I know, I know. That would be sleeping in for most of you. But I've been waking up about 8:30 lately. Did you know it's still dark at 6:00? I would have stayed in bed longer, even if I wasn't sleeping, except that I have a doctor's appointment at 8:30.

Doctor's appointme... Sat, 17 Sep 2016 11:14:32 EST hi doing low carb again Hi I am new to this team. I am doing low carb again. I did it nine years ago and lost a lot of weight. I quit it and regained the weight I lost. Hope to make it a lifestyle change Fri, 16 Sep 2016 17:15:06 EST Diabetes 1 vs. LCHF Ok, my best friend is flying in this coming Wednesday, haven't seen her for many years. I already know she is not in agreement with the path I have chosen. It's a serious argument ensuing. I tried to explain to her, why I have given up these foods in order, first thing is to get my A1C down to normal level. Instead of being happy to see that I brought it to this level, she immediately got on the bandwagon. You cannot eat 0 carbs. Ok convinced her not eating 0 carbs. Ok then next, you d... Wed, 14 Sep 2016 12:55:56 EST Wickedly wonderful wednesday Why not?😏 Interesting nite last nite. Who says water weight isn't real? Not me that's for sure! Was up 14 lbs last nite. Yep you heard that right. And THAT is enuf to challenge even the most stalwart lc'er. I knew without a doubt it wasn't a gain of fat. So it had to be water weight. Yup. An exhausting day yesterday, tons of water and even with lots of bathroom breaks I was up on the scale. I knew it was gonna be a long nite with many wake up calls. 8 trips to the potty an... Wed, 14 Sep 2016 09:29:29 EST Chirping Tuesday My smoke alarm, that is. It's hard-wired into the house's electricity, and only a year old, so there's no reason the battery should be low, but it's chirping up a storm. Poor Russell hates it. I'm not so fond of it myself. Now I have to find the Battery Drawer, figure out how to open it, remove the battery, replace the battery, figure out how to put the Battery Drawer back in. And all in the dark, because you're supposed to turn off the power before messing with the alarm. How are you suppose... Tue, 13 Sep 2016 10:41:38 EST I've been absent for over a year I thought I needed to re-introduce myself as the membership here has probably changed a lot. Sun, 11 Sep 2016 09:57:12 EST Sanguine Saturday I’m heading downtown this morning to the Sidewalk Arts Festival, then need to figure out my food for the next week and get groceries. Wed, 7 Sep 2016 09:43:01 EST How important is fat? Really, truly asking. I am trying to get back on track, but seems, as always, getting enough fat is very difficult because of my stupid allergies. If this has been working odds are its still working and all that has changed is our vision. Keep your focus. Keep working at it and don't second guess. Have a great day of low carb and have a little faith in yourself!🤗 Tue, 6 Sep 2016 11:34:57 EST Monday, Labour Day It is just after midnight. So I can legitimately name today. I love the British influence in Canadian spelling, like "labour" in today's title, not "labor".

Now let's see how many British spelling influences you catch in the next bit ... Thu, 1 Sep 2016 13:51:02 EST September's Food Budget Challenge "I can't eat low carb. It's too expensive." Ever hear that? Well, let me tell you, it just ain't so! Eating low carb - eating real food - can be cheaper than eating crap. It isn't always, but it can be.

This challenge is to encourage us all to reduce our food costs. How we do it will vary by individual. Maybe you'll set a food budget and make it work. Maybe you'll commit to eating one or two meals a week out of the freezer. Wed, 31 Aug 2016 08:54:42 EST Question about water loss I have a question about water loss. I know during the first week or so, we lose a lot of weight and it is generally our bodies releasing water. My question is, does the amount of weight/water loss correspond with how much inflammation may have been occurring in our body???? Tue, 30 Aug 2016 10:28:24 EST Tuesday rules! Good morning everyone. Was supposed to have an ESL lesson, but turns out that Mariam, the wife of my student, had surgery yesterday and Ndenjehu wants to be at the hospital with her. Poor folks - neither of them speaks English and Ndenjehu is deaf, to boot! Must be really scary, though they do have interpreters at the hospital. Their oldest son here works all day and the older kids are in school, so I said I'd watch Annette, the youngest, if the neighbor ca... Fri, 26 Aug 2016 09:51:35 EST Thursday's Child Keeps Going, Going, Going! A neighbor came by to walk with Russell and me. Very very different life styles and backgrounds.

Got a text last night that I would be meeting with a new ESL student today, but then another text this morning saying Mudekemwa couldn't make it after all, so no lesson today. Started out getting my insurance physical and they did blood work "will screen you for diabetes" (not sure why, but I think it must be SOP now), then went to the dentist and there was a mixup, almost didn't get my teeth cleaned, but in the end they said I could just do a regular instead of a deep clean, my teeth are strong and solid, even my baby teeth are good. Due to my allergies if I ever need "major dental work done" I will have to go to a doctor that can do ge... Tue, 23 Aug 2016 08:56:59 EST Moderate Monday I sure do like cooler days in the summer and fall! Of course, I like warmer days in the winter and spring.

Nothing on the calendar for today and only thing on the agenda for today is taking books back to the library and picking up some pork spareribs that are on sale. Mon, 22 Aug 2016 10:31:10 EST Sunny Sunday Another hot, sunny day here today. High in the mid 90s. But then down to the 80s for the next two weeks. Hurray!

Hope everyone has a great day. Sun, 21 Aug 2016 11:34:38 EST Sunny Saturday As of last night, high today was supposed to be in the low 80s. They changed it now and the high is supposed to be 89. At least it's not in the 90s!

Russell and I woke up about 6:00 this morning, so I got up and opened up the house and sat down in the recliner under a blanket while he did his business. Sat, 20 Aug 2016 10:28:40 EST Diabetic but under control? Does anyone know whether I can be diabetic and not have it show up on the A1c test because I have it under control with diet and exercise? And if so, would I still have the other risks of diabetes, even though it is under control? And is there anything to do about it if I do have diabetes and it's "under control"? Though sometimes something bland and boring makes a nice change.

Nothing official on my calendar for today. I'm watering now, and will take Russell for a walk when I change locations of the sprinkler. I need to get new walking shoes - I can feel myself walking on the side of my left shoe, and the heel there is worn down. New shoes, too, though cheap. Don't get stuck on the single step that you must make. Its forward!! Thu, 11 Aug 2016 08:34:17 EST What a Wednesday! Another cool morning. I'm sitting here wrapped up in a blanket with the house wide open. Russell and I will leave shortly for our morning walk.

Nothing planned for today except going to Walmart to pick up an Rx. I'll look into prepared veggies while I'm there. I might go to Winco for them, instead. I don't shop much for food at Walmart. Winco is quite a bit cheaper. Wed, 10 Aug 2016 09:32:10 EST Tantalizing Tuesday! No particular reason for the day name, but thought it would work well.

Three more Tuesdays until we move. Packing is about 90% done. I'm stiff and sore this morning, but plan to have my packing pretty much done this week. Next week will be spent cleaning and doing stuff to prepare for listing the house. I still hope my daughter can sell her house so she can buy this one, but I can't wait to find out. Gotta get stuff done. It creates a bit of angst but am dealing with it. ... Tue, 9 Aug 2016 09:30:38 EST Marvelous Monday! The house is wide open, letting in the wonderful cool from outside. I love cool mornings! Mon, 8 Aug 2016 10:34:40 EST A question about calculating calorie deficiency I know that generally when on a low-carb diet you don't have to worry as much about calories. But, after my illness and a drug I was given I've had a harder time losing weight (normal low carb with no workout which helped me lose 20 pounds a decade ago isn't working this time round). So, I'm throwing in daily exercise and I'm watching calories as well. I'm also sleeping well, eating well, lowering stress... everything I can do in my own power.

My question is this: you read that one... Sun, 7 Aug 2016 21:45:05 EST Spark Premium Loggin in today I saw an advertisement for Spark Premium. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. The one thing that would be interesting to me would be better tracking on weight loss. The Site is free and we get so much for that it's amazing. But I would be willing to pay for that type of extra. Any thoughts Sun, 7 Aug 2016 10:12:20 EST Solid Sunday I'm back in North America, but still not quite "in the zone". I'm still waking up very early and able to start the day off with a topic.

I let my mind go free, to find a title for today. "Solid Sunday" popped into my head. But what does that invoke in my mind? Solidly staying on the low carb course for today.

Wishing everyone a rejuvenating, low carb, solid Sunday. Slept at the hotel that is about a 3 minute walk from the Amsterdam airport. Dutch is an interesting language, it has similarities to both German and English, plus if course just a very straightforward English invasion as seen in this shot at the airport. That and a Russell Walk this evening are about the sum total of my ambition for the day.

Hope you're all having a great day! Thu, 28 Jul 2016 11:15:32 EST Whack it Wednesday! Give all those old excuses for not eating on plan and for not exercising and for doing things you know your really shouldn't or for not doing the things you know you should a good solid Whack! Not just the big things (seems like those are usually easiest to get under control anyway) but the little things, too. Whack! Bam! Pow!

Not a lot planned for today. A Russell Walk this morning (I've got to do it. Whack!), then an ESL tutoring session this morning. And an EKG and blood work th... Wed, 27 Jul 2016 10:51:43 EST Question about keeping diabetes in check with diet On Tuesday's daily thread there were some comments about people who are diabetic and figure if they just take insulin or whatever they'll be fine. No need to adjust the diet as long as the pills and shots are working. The comments there are definitely of the "It doesn't work that way" and "They'll be sorry" variety.

I haven't paid much attention to what the meds actually do, because I'd rather keep the glucose and insulin levels in check with diet and exercise instead of taking pil... Wed, 27 Jul 2016 10:42:21 EST Ruby Tuesday OK, I like some songs by the stones, though I'm not a big fan. But I just wanted to kick today off with a song title with "Tuesday" in it. I'm in Germany today, France tomorrow, and back in Germany on Thursday. I'm close to the border, it's only a 90 minute drive each day.

I'll be at my mother in laws house later today. Do you know what that means? It means no internet connection. Tue, 26 Jul 2016 02:24:09 EST Massage Monday Just wanted to say HI!!!! and hope you all have a great day!

213 Mon, 25 Jul 2016 05:58:57 EST Sanguine Sunday Sore today - low back, hip, neck, headache all night - maybe from paint fumes. I opened the windows while painting but closed them before bed. It was just too hot to leave them open and let the cold air escape. I think that's the last time I paint the vaulted ceilings in this house. But the room looks great, I smiled when I woke up this morning and saw the beautiful walls.

Church this morning, then meeting my parents for dinner at a restaurant. I didn't even have a chance to get ... Sun, 24 Jul 2016 10:50:29 EST Saturated Saturday So it's about 10 am and it's already 85 with over 65% humidity. I've already gotten a 4+ mile walk in, watered flowers outside and sprayed a couple evergreen trees for bagworms - UGH!! I'm saturated with sweat and drinking tons of water. Have a good weekend! Sat, 23 Jul 2016 11:05:18 EST Fabulous Friday!!!! Wooohoo! after being sick for a week and a half, to be greeted this morning with 199.2 is just incredible! I am in tears. I really cannot remember the last time I was in the 100's. The best I can guess is either right after I had my last daughter almost 16 years ago, or right before I got pregnant with her. and I would have to guess it's the latter. :(

Getting ready for the weekend and another busy band camp week next week. trying to get my youngest to eat properly is kic... Fri, 22 Jul 2016 08:42:39 EST Thriving Thursday 'Cuz that's what we do when we quit eating all that processed carbage and eat real food instead. We thrive. We eat more veggies and meat and good fats and we cut out the sugar and unpronounceable additives and the grains and we exercise more as well as just plain move more, and we thrive.

Errands again today, though probably not as much walking as yesterday. For which my knees and feet will thank me. I have to take some stuff to the Refugee Center and some stuff to Mom's. And borr... Thu, 21 Jul 2016 10:14:41 EST How to Cook Everything FAST Mark Bittman has a new cookbook out, How to Cook Everything Fast. At least it's new to me. Over a thousand pages, and it's all recipes and other info, not a bunch of pictures.

Like his other cook books, he gives one recipe and then usually has at least one or two variations. For example, he has a recipe for Watercress with Peaches, Pecans, and Blue Cheese. Variations are Arugula with Apricots, Marcona Almonds, and Manchego; Spinach with Apples, Walnuts and Goat Cheese; and Kale wi... Wed, 20 Jul 2016 18:16:41 EST Walking Wednesday! In fact, Russell and I will be heading out in a few minutes!

Errands this morning - Walmart to pick up a few things, then I'll pick up Mom and take her to Winco, and drop a referral to a physical therapist somewhere along the way. Housework this afternoon. My oldest brother and his wife arrive tomorrow night for a visit. Fortunately, they're staying with Mom and not with me!

I sure hope the U-Pick place hurries up and opens for veggies. I'm really looking forward to zucc... Wed, 20 Jul 2016 09:09:07 EST Hello Again Hey all. Just wanted to say hi. I came around to low-carb about 5 years ago, and had great success with it. Unfortunately, I had a rebound and setback, so I'm starting over again.

Been back on track for a couple of weeks now, and ready for what's next! Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:50:03 EST Interesting article Interesting article on the link between antihistamines and weight gain. this may 100% explain why I am a slow loser, since I take allergy meds 3-5 days a week.

tamines-weight-gain
Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:28:08 EST Tenacious Tuesday Yes, I slept in until 11am, and I'm still the first one awake!

I bring you Tuesday, sieze the day (Carpe Diem). Tue, 19 Jul 2016 06:08:21 EST Misty Moisty Monday I'm still adjusting to the time difference. I just woke up at 11 am here. But I still beat all of you in creating "Monday".

I'm visiting Family in Europe (more later). It is damp and there are drops of humidity on the windows this morning, even though the day is looking sunny. Mon, 18 Jul 2016 05:22:56 EST Super Sunday! The Whoosh Fairy visited and between us (she doesn't get all the credit!) I lost 2.6 pounds overnight and another 1.6 pounds yesterday for a total of 4.2 pounds for the two days. AND I'm under 250 AND I'm at my lowest weight all year AND I've lost 22.4 pounds in just under two months! Two months tomorrow, as a matter of fact. What a super way to start the day!

High yesterday was only 81, but high today supposed to be in the 90s. Highs all week supposed to be in the 90s, I think. I ... Sun, 17 Jul 2016 09:48:44 EST Serene Saturday Nothing planned for today except a trip to the library. Maybe the Farmers Market, but I have so many veggies already that I might skip it. I hate to, though. I always like to see what's new as the summer progresses. Sat, 16 Jul 2016 11:16:42 EST Fantabulous Friday! Greetings and Felicitations!

It is delightfully cool this morning. I do love the dry climate here, especially after coming from so many years in Indiana. I'll have to close up the east side of the house soon, though. Lots of big windows on that side of the house and the sun just pours through them, heating the whole house. I need to get some thermal drapes or something like that to keep the sun out, but that's such a shame to do when the windows were one of the reasons I bought the... Fri, 15 Jul 2016 09:51:53 EST Thankfully Thursday Good morning!

Surely Thursday will be better than yesterday. After the phone incident (still disconnected today), there was a small fire just north of the Village, the electricity was turned off, a difficult customer decided we were going out of business to scam HIM because our phone was disconnected. Fire out, electricity back on, and customer taken care of. NOW just waiting (in fetal position) for phone company to fix the phone. Thu, 14 Jul 2016 09:21:59 EST Chris Kesser OK. Have I gotten this all wrong? Chris Kesser says that a very low carb diet can induce insulin resistance?

“normal”-
blood-sugar-isn’t-normal-part-2/
Wed, 13 Jul 2016 21:09:51 EST Weedy Wednesday I sprayed about a quarter of my yard with a really strong broad leaf herbicide. Darn bindweed and thistles! The rest of the backyard needs it, too, but I mowed it on Monday. I need to let the weeds get a bit bigger before spraying.

As soon as I finish up here and finish breakfast (cottage cheese with toasted almonds, and the leftover roasted veggies from last night, both for breakfast but not combined), we're heading over to Mom's to pick up apples, thin the tree, and help make ap... Wed, 13 Jul 2016 11:54:42 EST Tasty Tuesday One of the wonderful things about eating low carb - all the wonderfully tasty things we not only can eat, but should! I'm lucky that I don't have to restrict calories very much (I aim for around 1600 to 1800 per day) so I can eat chicken skin and eggs and butter and heavy whipping cream and fatty cuts of meat with the fat still attached. But a lot of us eat more veggies now than we ever did when we were cutting calories and fat. And lots more than most people eat.

I needed to get s... Tue, 12 Jul 2016 09:47:29 EST Monday Morning Well, at least it is here and now.

Another cool day today. 53 at the moment, high of 75. A good day to get the lawn mowed, which is next on my agenda. I want to get the lawn mowed today (note that I did not say I want to mow the lawn!), do a bit of grocery shopping for vegetarian Libby, and probably go to the Falls this afternoon. We went to the Falls last week, but they cut the flow by something like 60% for irrigation and we want to see what it's like now. That's about it for tod... Mon, 11 Jul 2016 11:19:02 EST Springlike Sunday High today of 67!

Bill and the girls come back from the lake today, then Bill and Katie go home tomorrow and Libby stays here til I take her to the airport on Thursday. Then Bill and Karen (his wife) come down on Friday and stay until Sunday. Then no one is here until Nick and Jean (oldest brother and his wife) come on Thursday. That might be it until Christmas, though I need to email my nephew and other niece that if they come sometime this year, all of Mom's family will have visi... But I've lived alone for the past 40 years or so, and it's a bit wearing to have people here all the time. They arrived last Saturday night, and my two youngest nieces arrived last Sunday. Lots of time for company, though, unlike fish, they didn't start stinking after three days!

We ate up almost all of the leftovers, and they took some of what was left and the rest of it will go either to Mom or... Fri, 8 Jul 2016 09:43:44 EST Trustful Thursday Trusting this way of eating was hard at first but gets easier and easier. I love that feeling! Thu, 7 Jul 2016 08:39:59 EST Ready to feel good again Well after a couple of years, and several gained pounds, I'm back. I loved how I felt when I was eating low-carb. I'm ready to get back at it, and work my A1C down even further! Wed, 6 Jul 2016 12:55:47 EST Wonderfully Wednesday~ A very EARLY start to this Wednesday. 3 am. Sometimes I can go back to sleep, but not this morning. So starting with great coffee and an early movie on tv. Hope all of you have a great day following whatever plan you are on. Stay the course. Don't give in to those transitory temptations but revel in success~! Wed, 6 Jul 2016 06:52:59 EST Hi! I am starting the Atkins diet next Monday. I have been on the Weight Watchers plan since Jan. 15, 2016 and have only lost 15 lbs with it going back and forth on the scale. I am getting extremely depressed with these results, so I thought I would give Atkins a try. I really need to lose the weight for health reasons. Wed, 6 Jul 2016 04:31:57 EST Tired Tuesday Dragging today. Fortunately everyone else in the house is, too, so we have a lazy day unplanned.

I've been staying up late with Russell because of the fireworks, and waking up early to feed and potty and walk him. Last night we spent the evening at Mom's so we could be in the basement where he could be away from as much of the noise as possible. He was still very upset. And then lots of people setting off their own fireworks until well after midnight. We went back to bed this morni... Tue, 5 Jul 2016 10:31:45 EST Magnificent Monday!! Perhaps not yet, but with all the celebrations in my country it should at least be exciting! Have a great day but be SAFE! Mon, 4 Jul 2016 08:11:23 EST Hey Y'all! I started on SP in 2010 at 314lbs. Followed plans, set goals, had set backs and eventually had wls in 2013. Its not for everyone but has been the best decision I could have made. I'm down to 189 but would like to be 160-165.
I left SP during my surgery process because I had so much support around me but then we relocated to a new state. I lost my team. Seems like once the 4th of July hits, the summer is practically over.

Doctor's appointment this morning with a hand surgeon about carpal tunnel surgery, then Mom and I will do the first round of shopping for the company that starts coming on Saturday. Thu, 30 Jun 2016 08:41:59 EST Sometimes my msg. does get across I was engaged in a conversation with a friend this morning, that was told something to do with Low Carb eating, and she replied "My friend MJ said that!" It made me feel really good to be able to get some of my learned knowledge across to a friend! Yippee! I'm thanking you guys as well. I don't do well with the scientific part of it. I am better with experience and others experiences as well. I don't try to relay that knowledge, because I'm still befuddled by the terms and facts, I get ... Wed, 29 Jun 2016 14:34:17 EST Wallflower Wednesday Are you being a wallflower in your journey? Wed, 29 Jun 2016 08:22:54 EST Terrific Tuesday! A friend is moving across town, so I offered her the use of some of my boxes. I thought she was coming yesterday, but received a text about 10 pm saying she would come today to get them. I texted that I would be gone from 9:30 to 11:30, and she said she would come by at 7 am! I guess I need to be up and decent by then. I'm up, anyway, sort of, to open up the house. A very strange dream led to my waking up about 5:30, so I got up and opened up the house and turned on the ceiling fans. Will tak... Tue, 28 Jun 2016 07:52:00 EST Melting Monday Supposed to get up to 100, instead of about 86 like it should be. Strange how 100 is so much hotter than the 98 they were predicting as of yesterday!

My brother has been saying for a month or so that he'll bring his sailboat down while the girls are here, and take oldest niece and her two girls out sailing all day next Friday, then spend a couple of days with youngest niece (his daughter) teaching her how to sail. Then yesterday he said that he hadn't looked into docking facilities... Mon, 27 Jun 2016 10:55:35 EST Sizzling Sunday Highs back up in the 90s again (was in low 70s on Friday), except for tomorrow when it's supposed to reach 100. And it's supposed to stay in the 90s for at least the next 15 days. Ugh. But it's supposed to be clear, and we get delightfully cool nights here in the desert. And the humidity is really low. A couple of days ago the dew point was 23!

The only thing officially on my calendar today is bridge at Mom's house tonight. One of the couples who used to play in an eightsome with h... Unless maybe for a maintenance which makes more sense. But incorporating too many high carb items to me, like pasta's and fruits. But then again it may work for maintenance. 45 carbs per day makes a lot of sense then. But to lose weight, the best is to keep way lower. When I... Sat, 25 Jun 2016 10:08:32 EST Serendipitous Saturday A cold front came through yesterday, with highs in the low 70s. It's supposed to be warmer, today, high around 80. Then back up into the 90s for the next couple of weeks. Ugh. In the meantime, the house is opened up as opened as I can get it, with ceiling fans pulling in the delightfully cool air, and I'm sitting here under a blanket because it's cold!

A neighbor wants to go walking with Russell and me this morning, then I'm going to the Farmer's Market, then probably over to Mom's... Sat, 25 Jun 2016 08:31:22 EST Fragile Friday Looking for a good adjective for today. Hard to find one that expresses my feelings given the UK vote to leave the Europen Union after 43 years.

Broken, and fragile. Now the Scots probably want to stay in the EU, and raise a vote for independence again.

I wonder, with this political turmoil in Europe, will it flow over in spirit, into the US.

One of my daughters who has dual citizenship (German and Canadian) has been living and working in London for the last 3... Do you know if these are true or false?

1. If you eat less than 1200 calories a day you will slow your metabolism and not get enough nutrients. I have been doing about 900 calories for the last 10 days and I am not hungry. I have a small stature so my starting point is low.

2. Homemade sourdough bread is a low carb food. I'm lucky enough to have a primary care physician in a practice that offers a Body and Wellness program to the patients. It involves a visit every other week (at least in the begininning), nutrition, exercise and psychological guidance relating to getting healthy. I started the program in April. The nutrition program consists of a low carb/high protein/moderate fat way of eating. I had my visit this morning. Since I started the program on Aptil 14,2016, I've lost 36.6 pounds and 10.25 inches ... Thu, 23 Jun 2016 10:32:18 EST Thinner Thursday The scale finally moved - in the right direction! Thu, 23 Jun 2016 07:59:41 EST Food For Thought Recently I came across
these parmesan cheese whisps at Costco. Wed, 22 Jun 2016 18:50:17 EST WOE Wednesday Work your way of eating today. It's a lifestyle! Wed, 22 Jun 2016 08:21:22 EST Take a chance Tuesday Try something new! Tue, 21 Jun 2016 09:00:50 EST How's your A1C? I must admit I'm a little disappointed in mine. After 2 years on low carb it has lowered from 5.7 to 5.5. Though according to popular definitions that means I am no longer pre-diabetic, some people think the cut off should be 5.5.. I guess I just expected my test result was going to be lower so I am a little sad. I really put a lot of energy into staying healthy kwim? I regularly test my blood sugar, fasting and after food and it's so rarely over 100 at any time, even after eating something c... Mon, 20 Jun 2016 09:55:08 EST Summer Monday It's here. Summer. The longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere.

So the days have actually been pretty long up to today. In fact, after today they get shorter again. Enjoy the summer! Mon, 20 Jun 2016 09:16:43 EST Trying to find balance Hello, all.

We are in summer, full-swing. The graduation hoopla has died down. Everyone has returned home to where they live. And I JUST NOW have gotten the house in order. (Sometimes it takes me awhile - anyone work this way?)

In fact, all this week, I've been working on one area - my desk. At first, I set the goal to just clean off the top of my desk. But then I decided to go further and go through my drawers. Well, one of my drawers is a filing cabinet, so of course I... Mon, 20 Jun 2016 09:15:15 EST Yay! no headache today! Good news, I woke up this morning and the headache I have had off and on for two days is gone! I must have finally got my sodium levels up enough. Now just to keep them up lol. Also good news, my ketositx tested positive for ketones! It was a light purple, but, I just started atkins on friday so that is a good sign of ketosis begining. Sun, 19 Jun 2016 11:38:25 EST Happy Father's Day! Ok, so it doesn't have "Sunday" in the topic line, nor does it have alliteration, but that's today's thread anyway!

Woke up at 5:30, took some tylenol and went back to sleep until 7, when I got up. I'm hoping the early tylenol will keep the aches and pains away. Took Russell for a short walk. Will get out and do some stuff in the garden after I'm finished here. May take Mom for a drive this afternoon. Haven't decided myself, nor have I asked her. We'll see.

Hope you're a... Sun, 19 Jun 2016 10:37:46 EST High Steppin' Saturday I need to get out there - now! After highs in the upper 60s through Thursday, it's supposed to get up into the mid 80s today. Russell and I need to get out while it's still cool! I'm a real wimp when it comes to heat.

Have a great day! Sat, 18 Jun 2016 09:26:52 EST When you cook for nonlowcarbers Hi Team,

I am back to low carb after more than a year away. I have 4-6 other people at home and I do all the cooking. It is easy to do a meat, veggie and potato meal for everyone. I can just skip the potato.

I often plan nice low carb high fat meals but then feel bad when the boys break out the loaf of bread or high sugar dessert afterwards. Isn't it especially bad for their health to do the high fat and add high sugar on top. Is this true?

Tonight I mentione... Fri, 17 Jun 2016 19:02:04 EST low energy on first day? wow, I know it is normal to be tired a couple days into atkins/low carb but I didnt realize it would happen on first day lol! I am so tired I can barely hold my eyes open. I just had to make another cup of coffee to keep me awake. Hope how soon I go into ketosis so I can start burning some fat for energy because I have NO energy right now. But, on a good note, I'm not the least bit hungry :P Fri, 17 Jun 2016 14:37:02 EST Fresh Friday So, unlike yesterday, I decided to start Friday off early. It is technically Friday where I am, just after midnight. So good night and see you tomorrow, ... I mean later today. I would start today but I have already had more carbs in my breakfast than I should have all day lol.

I bought enough meat, eggs, and cheese to last the next five days until payday. I also bought some cabbage and collard greens, and lettuce, and pickles. I also bought some coconut oil and unsalted butter to have my bulletproof coffee for breakfast this week. As motivation to keep me moving, I purchased a push behind mower (battery powered---pretty cool---no gas or oil to fool with) and I now take care of my 1.25 acre property myself rather than paying someone else to mow for me. It's great exercise and I have a pretty good sense of accomplishment when I'm done and it's constant motivation to do it in order to keep the grass from getting too high. I pretty much mow every other day or rotation.... Sun, 29 May 2016 10:31:57 EST Another low-carb lifestyle resource I found this website through a post on another SP team forum I belong to. Hugs Mon, 9 May 2016 13:43:40 EST Special Celebratory Sunday Happy Mother's Day, everyone! Sun, 8 May 2016 10:48:11 EST Alcohol? I'm not a big drinker, but once in a while hubby and I like to kick back with an adult beverage. We got some cool new porch furniture today, so we got some Captain and some diet Dr. Pepper (really nice combination), and had a nice evening together on the porch. Should I be worried about what the scale will say tomorrow? The Captain doesn't have many carbs in it, but I know the body preferentially burns alcohol (because it's a toxin, lol).

What kind of experiences do you guys h... Sat, 7 May 2016 21:42:15 EST cell phone security I received a text this morning, saying it was from my friend Ushindi (by name) and her cell phone number. It said "Download this video chat so we can talk" and then gave a URL.It didnt' sound like quite how she would have said it, so I texted her and asked if she had texted me. Nope, it wasn't from her.

I assume it's some sort of nasty scam and I'd either be infecting my computer (or phone, if my phone were smart enough to use the URL) or stealing personal information or taking me ... Sat, 7 May 2016 12:56:01 EST Sunny Saturday Which is nice, after the rain (which we really needed) and hail and thunder an lightning last night.

Off to the Farmers Market. First one of the season. Then probably Winco with Mom. And cleaning up so Mom can come over for Mothers' Day dinner. Fortunately there's not a lot to do since it's still mostly clean from Monday's Bunco gathering. Sat, 7 May 2016 12:51:03 EST Breakfast! Does anyone else have problems with breakfast. I would like to have something different than eggs, bacon and or cheese. I have a flax muffin every so often, but the maple syrup cost's in carbs, plus I am out of flax. Any other types of muffins? I like them with my coffee, but always seem to be too high for my under 20 carbs a day. I like the muffin in the mug, but would make a dozen to use throughout the week. Any suggestions???

<img src=" Fri, 6 May 2016 11:51:07 EST Freedom Friday! Breathe! I'm attempting to use Postive Words to Boost!

I found SparkPeopleTV for exercise. Hugs Fri, 6 May 2016 09:17:31 EST Back to LC Hi everyone :) My name's Julie. I've been a member of Spark for a long time, and even managed to lose 30 pounds back when I first joined. That was doing low calorie though, and it didn't stick for very long. So now I'm back and I'm trying low carb. I've been moderately low carb for about four years, but some seriously traumatic life stuff last fall helped me gain 30 pounds. So now I want to lose that plus another 20 pounds and be back at the best weight I've ever been at.

I... Thu, 5 May 2016 15:26:10 EST Theatrical Thursday! Especially when a 13 year old DD is involved!

Absolutely nothing on the calendar for today! The day is all mine. I've watered the front yard (manual sprinklers, not the automatic kind) and will work in the back yard today. It should be a nice day. And that's about it. Thu, 5 May 2016 10:49:49 EST Thoughtful Thursday wow have we been quiet in the am a lot this week! Been trying to think about how things are going for us with our WOE, and how our attitudes have really changed in the last few months. I am so much more calm, I quit driving myself crazy with micromanaging all I was eating, we are both losing weight at a respectable pace, things are good.

DH was SO frustrated this am. The scale said 200.0. LOL I am fluctuating this week, but that's probably pms fluctuation, so I'm not too wor... Thu, 5 May 2016 10:48:24 EST Wacky Wednesday!!! One kiddo home from school, so I had to drive the other one and be home in time to start work at 8. Didn't get much of my morning routine done. Got a call from my neighbor, his wife passed early this morning after being in a nursing home for 23 years with alzheimers.

Will eat a smaller lunch(maybe 200-300 calories) because I am not getting hungry early enough at night (I like to eat by 6 or 7, but lately not hungry until 8 or 9 pm) Wed, 4 May 2016 11:21:58 EST Vegetarian LCHF I'm part of a Keto FB group, and one member is vegetarian. I know someone (Calgal?) was asking about it last week, finally found a link to her website. Hope it helps!

Tue, 3 May 2016 23:18:41 EST Talkative Tuesday Though of course I tend towards talkativeness every day, and not just on Tuesday!

The luncheon and Bunco went well yesterday. My mother would have pulled off having a dozen women over for lunch with no problem at all. Me, I made a big deal out of. Definitely different generations!

I see the doctor about changing my depression meds today. Of course, if I have the gumption to call for an appointment it means things have already turned around. I'm doing much better than I ... I've only played with this group three times. The afternoon officially begins with "snacks."

The first time I played with them there was pulled pork and rolls to make sandwiches, probably salad of some sort, and multiple desserts. Seems like there was more than this, but I don't remember.

The second time the hostess said she didn't get around to fixing anything, so she served grilled ham and cheese... Sat, 30 Apr 2016 13:36:03 EST Sassy Saturday Nothing much planned for today except getting ready for Bunco on Monday. I'm having eleven women (twelve, including me) over for "snacks" and then an afternoon of Bunco. Which means the house has to be cleaned and tidied and I have to figure out the food. And then fix the food. And I have to go to Mom's house and borrow a couple of card tables and some chairs.

Cloudy today, possible chance of showers. But back in the 70s starting on Tuesday. Sat, 30 Apr 2016 10:14:42 EST Checking in Good morning, team!

I thought I'd come and give everyone an update (if you were just dying from curiosity 334 )

The Spring musical was a huge success! The Man Child's performance of Scuttle was a hit. Everyone loved him. I was so proud of him. But, it was a busy run and our year isn't about to slow down!

Three more Mondays and school will be out for the summer. The Man Child graduates on the 20th. Family is coming in on the 18th. I don't know about you, but I always feel that April is spring and May is getting into the start of summer. I can't believe that summer is practically here! At least it's practically time to start planting things. I already have kale and chard planted, but I'll be be planting tomatoes and things like that soon.

Do you read Anne Perry's Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mysteries? Hope everyone is up and going today!

Looking for a good day today. kinda hungry this morning. Wondering if some hard boiled eggs (warmed up) with some butter would be a good breakfast. Seems I can IF for a couple days, not eat much, then for a couple days I'm starving. LOL

a bit grouchy. I don't like getting up before 6, but inevitably my husband wakes up at 4:30 or 5, then moves, bounces, looks at his phone and chuckles or talks to it, or worse, talks to me! Th... Thu, 28 Apr 2016 08:37:50 EST Results of LCHF vs Calorie diet My parents have been a long time enemy of eating LCHF. In fact, they have never been able to understand the science of it at all. Until now, that is.

I challenged my parents to eat LCHF for a few days and I would eat the 'normal' foods but at a calorie restrictions. I HAD to eat a certain number of carbs a day, though. Just to satisfy the point of the challenge.

Needless to say, I kicked their BUTTS!!! They have now eliminated all grains and pastas from their diet and ar... Thu, 28 Apr 2016 01:16:59 EST Weird Wednesday Though given the weather forecast, maybe that should be Wild Wednesday! I hope you all stay safe.

I didn't sleep well last night - that going in and out of sleep, never quite waking up but not really asleep, either. And a very strange dream. I hadn't been going to my math class and now it was finals time and I missed the final because I was rescuing a dog. And on and on. I think that even in those semi-awake periods I was panicking because that was the last class I needed to gradua... Wed, 27 Apr 2016 08:02:28 EST
