SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard We will discuss low carb lifestyles (including Atkins,Protein Power, South Beach and other doctor-recommended low carb plans), trade low carb recipes and team up to do this together! SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard Friday Nothing on the agenda for today except supper at Mom's house. Don't know what DB and family will be doing. Fri, 22 Jun 2018 08:01:33 EST Thursday Bill and family got in about midnight and went right to bed. I got up about 6:30, put the pork roast on to cook low and slow all day and took Russell for a walk before anyone else got up. Bill got up about 8:00. It's almost 9:00 now and no one else is up. It is an hour earlier their time. And the boys are teenagers, after all!

Mom has a doctor appointment this morning. She'll drive over here and then I'll go with her to the doctor. Then I'll go immediately to play cards this aftern... Thu, 21 Jun 2018 10:56:01 EST Wednesday Maw, where are you? Wed, 20 Jun 2018 10:57:44 EST Tuesday Warmer today. All the way up to 74! 10 degrees warmer than yesterday, almost 10 degrees below average. But then back up in the 80s for the rest of the month.

I heard from my brother yesterday. He and his family are coming down tomorrow. His FIL is not doing well. He went on hospice about a month ago, now they want to bring the boys down to see him one last time "while he still has all his faculties." Does not sound good. Bill will stay with me, his wife and her boys will stay at hi... Tue, 19 Jun 2018 09:08:10 EST Monday Good luck, Woubbie!

Busy day yesterday. I just found my fitbit after months not knowing where it was. Yesterday was the first day that I was able to track all day. Over 10,000 fitbit steps! No wonder my feet and ankles and knees hurt by the end of the day. Not that fitbit steps are necessarily the same as real or actual steps. They're not. I jiggle enough to cause extra "steps" to register. But that's still a lot of movement, whether it's steps or jiggles!

Nothing on the... Mon, 18 Jun 2018 09:43:38 EST Sunday - and Father's Day! Don't forget to thank the wonderful fathers in your lives - fathers, husbands, sons, uncles, friends, whatever - who have helped to raise the wonderful people in your lives!

A late spring day here today. High of 68! But the sun is shining brightly (at 7 am!) and the sky is bright blue.

Mom is coming over for Memorial Day supper tonight. I had that miserable cold on Memorial Day so we're celebrating tonight, instead. Ribs, green beans, salad and watermelon. Simple and g... Sun, 17 Jun 2018 09:12:07 EST Saturday Sunny, high today in the mid-70s, and it rained last night so I don't need to water this morning. Delightful weather!

I'm going to the Farmer's Market this morning. First time this year, though I think they've been open since early May. It just didn't feel right to be coughing and hacking my way through the market. It's bad enough doing it in a grocery store. But I'm (almost) all better now and eager to get to the FM. I'll take Russell and we'll do our morning walk there instead of... Sat, 16 Jun 2018 09:18:27 EST Friday Took Russell for a walk first thing this morning. When I got home I saw that a neighbor is having a garage sale. I asked her if I could bring some things over for her to sell, keep, give away or throw away. Just get them out of my garage! She agreed and I got rid of 4 chairs and two Christmas wreaths. One is about 3 feet in diameter and beautiful. The other is about 18 inches in diameter and nice. She's going to keep the big one. I don't care what she does with the rest as long as it doesn't ... Fri, 15 Jun 2018 10:26:14 EST Thursday Bridge day, today. At least I think I'm on the list. I'll call in a little bit and make sure.

This morning I need to go to Kmart. I have $15 in coupons that expire today. Got to be sure and use them! As long as I'm on that side of town I'll stop by at Mom's house, too.

Have a great day. Thu, 14 Jun 2018 10:08:14 EST Wednesday A hot one here today, then highs back in the 70s for the next few days. I wish I had an attic fan. My aunt in Tulsa had one. She'd get up first thing in the morning and open all the windows and turn on the fan and it sucked the cool air outside into the house and then up into the attic and the house cooled off beautifully. It should work even better here where there's so little humidity. One of these days, maybe. There's a fan with the a/c that helps though not as much as I remember Aunt Hele... Wed, 13 Jun 2018 09:01:34 EST Tuesday Took Russell for a walk "first thing" this morning before my legs and feet had a chance to get tired and sore. He appreciated it and so did my legs and feet. And I'm going to need to be doing it then anyway because it will get hot. High today of 79, high tomorrow in the 90s, then highs in the 70s for the next several days. Seems like summer will never get here! Though upper 70s are the average for this time of year.

Today is watering day. The sprinklers are on the second placement... Tue, 12 Jun 2018 10:02:41 EST Monday And I'm full of vim, vigor and vitality! aka being bright eyed and bushy tailed. A nice change.

I've been having a pint of homemade broth with cream for breakfast. I started doing it because of the healing benefits of chicken broth and bone broth. Now I just do it because it's good. Which puts me in the odd position of having too much meat! It is so silly to pay more for meatless (or nearly so) bones than for boneless (or nearly so) meat, but that's the way it goes. I can get chick... Mon, 11 Jun 2018 11:06:58 EST Sunday High last Wednesday of 92. High next Thursday of 92. High today of 62! I am determined not to turn on the furnace today. Back to sweats and blankets for the day.

Went to Hagerman, just under an hour from here, yesterday to pick up some auction goodies. I did really well! First, I set limits on how much I was willing to spend (It was an online auction so I had more control.) I got a set of Pyrex baking dishes for $27.50. Two 9x13 cake pans and one 11x7 cake pan. Three 9x7x2.5 pans. ... Sun, 10 Jun 2018 09:54:32 EST Saturday Off to Hagerman, a little less than an hour away, to pick up some stuff I "won" at an auction. Don't know what the rest of the day holds.

Enjoy your weekend! Sat, 9 Jun 2018 08:59:51 EST Friday I think I should probably go back to bed. I have several very itchy bites with big welts. I noticed that the cortizone cream I was putting on them was thicker than usual. Then I noticed it was toothpaste, not cortizone cream. At least I put toothpaste on my bites and not cortizone cream on my teeth!

Fri, 8 Jun 2018 09:57:09 EST Becky Wants to be my 'Friend" Dietitian Becky added me as a friend...

Should I be suspicious?

Should I be heartened?

Has she added any of you as a friend? Fri, 8 Jun 2018 07:55:01 EST Thursday Another hot day today, but a 20+ degree change - down! - by Saturday.

Mom and I went up to Hagerman yesterday to look at some auction stuff. A nice drive, a bit less than an hour each way. Found a couple of things I want to bid on. It's an online auction tomorrow evening, though we can bid now. The auction closes Friday evening. I bid on and bought an electric leaf blower and electric hedge trimmers last night. Hope they work! Not so much the trimmers, but the blower.

I'... Thu, 7 Jun 2018 09:42:25 EST Dukan oatbran muffins These are a convenient way of getting the daily dose of oat bran (2 Tbsp on Cruise phase).

pe-detail.asp?recipe=3389584
Wed, 6 Jun 2018 11:16:13 EST Wednesday Another hot one here today. High in the mid to upper 80s, almost 10 degrees above average.

Got lots done yesterday. Lots more to do today!

Have a great day! Wed, 6 Jun 2018 09:27:03 EST types of carbs

8601
Wed, 6 Jun 2018 00:54:16 EST Tuesday And watering day.

Russell got me up a little before 7. I cut back a few tree weeds in the front, then started watering out there. No sprinkler system, so I have to put out the sprinkler and move it around so it's watering where I want it to and not where I don't. Several trips up and down the porch steps to get to the faucet. I'll water the front this morning. As soon as it's late enough to be polite (I'm figuring 8:30) I'll mow the back, then water back there this evening. An aut... Tue, 5 Jun 2018 10:10:21 EST Monday Sorry, folks. It really is Monday again!

Have some yard to do today. I soaked some bean seeds overnight so I could plant them this morning, but goofed and soaked all of the beans instead of just the ones I planned on planting. Oops. Good thing I like beans!

Other than that, some herbs and flowers I need to plant out back, and more I need to plant out front. The back yard needs to be mowed. And there are always dishes to do.

Have a great day, or as good as a M... Mon, 4 Jun 2018 09:39:59 EST Sunday Hope you got some sleep last night, Granny Naypooie!

High today of 86! 20 degrees higher than two days ago.

I have lots of things planned for today - mowing the lawn, quick stops at three stores and a major grocery shopping at a fourth, fixing Mom's pill boxes, planting some more plants, washing dishes, and making some dog food. We'll see how much actually gets done.

I have two planters in my back yard, made from cinder blocks. One of them I can see from my ... Sun, 3 Jun 2018 10:32:08 EST Saturday, June 2 As of 05:01, I am a grandma to a 7 lb 4 oz girl with an excellent set of lungs. Fri, 1 Jun 2018 11:13:39 EST Friday Are threads in the General Team Discussion Forum here messed up? Pictures and names sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right? I think it's only here, on this team. At least I didn't notice it on another team. I'd ask about it but don't want to draw attention to our team!

A beautiful day today. Cool, but sunny and no rain in the forecast. It rained most of yesterday, with thunderstorms from about 11 to about 7. Officially we got over 1/3 of an inch of rain, or almost 1/3 of our... Fri, 1 Jun 2018 10:07:24 EST Thursday Not much going on around here. 80% chance of rain, with thunderstorms possible this evening. Then dry for the next week. High today 70, tomorrow 68, Sunday 87. Crazy weather.

Got a quick email from my SIL saying she's in town arranging hospice care for her dad. "Very intense." Doesn't sound good. Thu, 31 May 2018 11:04:53 EST Dukan Hi Peeps
If anyone here is following the Dukan low-carb approach, I've just taken over as Leader of the Dukan SparkTeam and I'm trying to revive the Dukan forum.

groups_individual.asp?gid=42861

I've also posted a few recipes and some links to recipe sites. These are Dukan-specific but most should be good for low-carbers of other persuasions. Not trying to poach members from here, just an additional resource.
... Thu, 31 May 2018 03:22:36 EST Wednesday Woke up thinking it was Saturday. Just for a second. I wonder what that was about?

Didn't get any planting done yesterday, but did mail a couple of packages and picked up an Rx and some cold meds at Walmart. That was about it. My excuse for not planting was that they are forecasting a chance of severe thunderstorms with 1" hail for this afternoon. Very rare around here. When I heard about that and thought about putting plants out it reminded me of when I was a kid in South Dakota. ... Wed, 30 May 2018 11:14:24 EST Tuesday Oops! I started this thread as Wednesday. And it's not even wishful thinking on my part! I sometimes wonder how I'd do in an emergency when they asked me what day it was and things like that. Who cares what day it is when you're retired!

Got lots done yesterday. Russell and I went to Lowe's and got some plants for Mom's window box, and then I planted the window box. It hasn't had plants in it for at least 15 years, probably more. The last dog would jump up on the window box to tell... Tue, 29 May 2018 10:25:31 EST Memorial Day thanks Is Happy Memorial Day a contradiction in terms? Happy because so many men and women have served and continue to serve our nation and us knowing that the possibility of death or and disfigurement, of physical, mental and emotional trauma is ever-present, but they do it anyway? And sad, too, because so many have indeed been called to make those sacrifices.

However you look at the day, THANK YOU to all the men and women who have served and who are serving for us.

No real ... Mon, 28 May 2018 10:17:18 EST does time of eating matter?
Sun, 27 May 2018 15:01:17 EST Sunday I like this time of year - except that both Russell and I tend to wake up with the sun, which comes much too early. I'm just glad I don't live in Alaska!

High today of 66 - 68, depending (literally!) on which side of the same page you look at! The newspaper has a one page mostly graphic (graphical?) weather forecast, and the two sides don't agree. And by "page" I mean it all fits on my small screen. Either way, it's going to be chilly. 69 is so much colder than 70, don't you think?... Sun, 27 May 2018 09:34:34 EST Saturday And the start to the Memorial Day weekend! (or did that start yesterday?) Either way, hope you have a great day and a great weekend.

And a big thanks to all the service men and women who have given their lives for our country, and there families. And to those who have offered but have not, been required to make that ultimate sacrifice. Sat, 26 May 2018 09:09:56 EST Friday A beautiful day! High of 88 (too high, IMHO) but no rain or thunderstorms in the forecast. Sunny, humidity 37%. Highs in the upper 60s over the weekend, with rain. Enjoy today!

Had a strange dream just before I woke up. A bunch of people were camping in this cabin. Sheldon, from the early years of The Big Bang Theory, was making animal cracker French toast. You know, dipping the animal crackers in milk and eggs and then frying them. Then the dark haired somewhat stocky guy who seem... Fri, 25 May 2018 09:50:46 EST Thursday Last day of school for kids around here. Bet they're excited! I mean, really! I live in a desert. A reallio, trulio desert. And we've had thunderstorms almost every day for the past week or so. They blame it on "afternoon heating." Yeah, like up to the low 70s! Not very much rain, but almost daily. Sheesh!

Got most of the backyard mowed yesterday. It's supposed to dry out enough that I should be able to finish it today. Wed, 23 May 2018 10:39:45 EST not losing weight I have been on low carb for a month and have lost a whopping 4 pounds! I am wondering if there is something going on with my body that I just cannot lose weight. I have tried WW, expensive meals sent to house, nothing is working, I thought the low carb would for sure but its not!! Tue, 22 May 2018 14:13:44 EST Tuesday Hi! Tue, 22 May 2018 11:44:28 EST Monday Just barely, but it is. I can't sleep. Mon, 21 May 2018 02:24:18 EST Sunday Came down with a cold yesterday evening. That's when I developed the symptoms, anyway. Not feeling great this morning. Made a big batch of bone broth from bones in the freezer. Expect to be eating/drinking a lot of that. Got a big package of chicken thighs out of the freezer, too. Will cook them up in the Instant Pot and have chicken broth, too. Yes, I expect to be drinking my lunch! (Does anyone else remember the hoop-de-la about "3 martini lunches" back in the 70s? Or maybe I remember it mo... Sun, 20 May 2018 09:51:25 EST Saturday Sunny and in the mid-70s today. Nice! Sat, 19 May 2018 09:19:19 EST Friday Friday Not Friday Eve anymore, it's the real thing now!

This afternoon I'm going out to a farm auction. Not for the farm stuff, but for some household stuff. It's an online auction. I'm just going out to take a look at the stuff I'm considering. The auction itself is tonight.

The backyard desperately needs mowed. Mom joked about Russell getting lost back there, but she's not all that far from being right! Depends on whether it rains, among other things.

High of 68,... Fri, 18 May 2018 10:32:39 EST Thursday!!! YYYiiipppeeee!!!! I gained weight while traveling---YIKES!

Today I was at 162# so most has been dropped. My belly is a little flatter. My meats are cooking now. I feel rather weak today. Mowing, gardening and then teaching a power class did me in yesterday!!! I will lay down soon and sleep plus drink more water!!!

I need to wait until tomorrow to finish mowing. I need to save Energy for teaching 1 hour power class tonight!!!

I am a very lucky Woman!!... Thu, 17 May 2018 12:13:48 EST Friday Eve! a.k.a. Thursday.

Hope the kidney stone passes on its own, Woubbie. Did you get elected?

Volunteering at the elementary school this morning. Hand and Foot (a form of Canasta) this afternoon. Maybe mow the back yard. I got the front done yesterday.

Have a great day! Thu, 17 May 2018 10:17:39 EST Wednesday Lots of little errands to do today. Fortunately it's a beautiful day!

Have a great day, everyone! Wed, 16 May 2018 10:00:53 EST Tuesday After the crazy weather last week (high of 82 on Sunday, then 47 on Saturday), this week's consistent weather sounds good. Highs in the low 70s all week, which is actually about where they are supposed to be. Chance of rain every day, though, which is unusual here in the desert.

Didn't think I had anything officially on the calendar for today, but turns out I have two meetings. One is a social meeting (the group used to be a Newcomers/Welcome Wagon type thing, but no one wanted t... Tue, 15 May 2018 11:06:12 EST Monday Volunteering at the elementary school this morning, tutoring my Congolese friend this afternoon. I had strange dreams about the tutoring. Very strange dreams.

High today of 75, with lots of sunshine. Should be a good day! Mon, 14 May 2018 10:11:14 EST Happy Mother's Day! Hope all you mothers out there are having a great day.

Mom is coming over for supper tonight. She wants seafood fettuccine, which I'll have over vegetables instead of pasta. I'll go over this morning and do her pill bottles, maybe let her beat me at some games (though not if I have anything to do with it!), then stop at Albertsons on the way home to pick up the seafood. Then back home to wash dishes and clean up the kitchen before she gets here.

It rained all day yester... Sun, 13 May 2018 11:21:37 EST Saturday started too early I'm babysitting my daughter's dog while she's out of town a couple day. He woke me at 05:45 to go out this morning. Naturally, I didn't get back to sleep, so here I am starting the daily thread early. Sat, 12 May 2018 10:26:14 EST Friday Though I keep thinking it's Saturday. (It's not, is it?) And I don't even work!

High of 58 today. Had a little bit of rain/sprinkle last night but not enough to do any good.

Will do my grocery shopping and Mom's in a little bit, then go over to her house and do some deadheading and some watering. To another couple of grocery stores, then to the library and then back home. Might stop at Lowe's or Home Depot or someplace like that and get some plants. Or might wait and s... Fri, 11 May 2018 09:59:39 EST Thursday Cooler today. High only 72. Was 87 on Sunday. But high tomorrow is supposed to be 59, and Saturday's high is supposed to be only 53! Brrrr! No frost, though, or anything close to frost, so should be safe to plant.

Volunteer at the elementary school this morning. Yardwork/gardening this afternoon. Maybe a trip to the library. I'm watering out front now. Will move the sprinkler in a few minutes.

Have a great day! Thu, 10 May 2018 09:54:42 EST Wet (but not wild) Wednesday I checked my email this morning, no contacts from SparkPeople. I thought maybe they'd cut off my email again, but I guess you guys are just slow to start this morning.

I've been feeling hungry in the mornings, my quart of hot tea usually lets me get to 10 before eating. I think it results from too many carbs in the evening. I've been having peanut butter with a bit of honey on a wrap. Going to cut it out for a few days, see where that takes me. Wed, 9 May 2018 11:24:16 EST Tuesday There are times that I really wish I had an automatic sprinkler system. Like on watering days. Don't have one, can't afford one (well, I could, but not in any way that I want to do), don't need one. And it doesn't make sense to get one, anyway, until I figure out what I want to do with my yard. I'm pretty sure at least part of the back will be dryscaped.

Class is over, so nothing formal on the calendar for today. The final is tomorrow afternoon. Piece of cake. I've got the sprinkl... Tue, 8 May 2018 10:25:42 EST Monday, Monday! 335

Timesheet Monday, looking forward to getting paid! Mon, 7 May 2018 11:59:10 EST Superb Sunday It’s sunny, the birds are singing, it’s a glorious day! Heading to church soon, then meeting my parents, siblings and their spouses/kids for dinner out. I don’t mind cooking for everyone on the big holidays but decided dinner out would be a better option since we’ve been busy packing on Saturdays. Then we’re doing family pictures! I think our last nice photo was 9 years ago. We want to display it at my parent’s anniversary party in July.

Enjoy your day!
Sun, 6 May 2018 09:59:15 EST Saturday - Everybody sleeping in? I actually got up at my usual time and went to work out. The weekend is off to an unusual (but good) start. Sat, 5 May 2018 13:29:54 EST Constipation Sorry I'm raising an indelicate topic, but I always get constipated on whatever low-carb plan I try (Atkins, Keto and now Dukan), perhaps the only exception was South Beach because it included beans, but then I didn't lose much. So then it gets too much and I give up the diet.
I now have two Tbsp oat bran on Dukan's Cruise Phase. I also have 1 Tbsp psyllium husks in water every day, though not part of the Dukan diet (wheat bran is tolerated but I avoid gluten). Even so, I still get se... Sat, 5 May 2018 13:28:13 EST TGIF Once again, weekend to look forward to. Nick wanted to take us both out to dinner last night, but Mom insisted that Nick and I go and she stay home. We suggested bringing takeout back with us, but she said no, we should go and eat out. Too much disruption to her routine, I suppose. He got a lot done while he was here. Mon, 30 Apr 2018 10:31:10 EST Sunday Cloudy today. Neither partly sunny, partly cloudy, or partly moonly. Just plain cloudy.

Sun, 29 Apr 2018 10:24:44 EST Happy Saturday! Decided not to wait for someone else to start the daily thread.

Soggy with rain here, and I'm okay with that. I did a lot of running around this week, so today I'm staying home all day. I've got a short To Do list, and one client task that I've been putting off.

I might read a book. Take a nap. Binge watch something.

I dunno!

What's going on with the rest of you? Sat, 28 Apr 2018 11:18:36 EST Hello - again! Soooo I've been doing terribly. I HAVE lost 20lbs (somehow) but I'm not eating healthy. The time for that HAS CHANGED.

I am NOW low carb - just decided randomly when I finished my lunch and I realized that the carbs were gonna make me sleepy and exhausted and just generally blah. I glanced at my reflection in the window on the way back to the patient floor and saw how much of a gut I have now. NO MORE.

NO MOAR!

rawr. :3 Sat, 28 Apr 2018 01:35:08 EST Kitten's Journal - I'm baaaaaack I've been meaning to switch back to LCHF time and time again... but tonight I said SCREW IT - I'm going low carb - NOW.

Sooooo here we go!!!

Day 0 - 4/28 - starting weight 305lbs
Today I'm starting back on low carb. My goal is to go simple and not go nuts with craaaaazy recipes. Gonna set out some chicken to thaw when I get home and, when I wake up, pan fry it with olive oil and salt. A couple bags of steamed veggies like broccoli and green beans to go with it... Sat, 28 Apr 2018 01:12:47 EST Friday Nick (brother visiting from Florida) went to Lowe's yesterday and got a whole bunch of soil amendments for my raised beds. Today he'll lug them to the back and I'll dump them in the beds. Still too cool to plant a lot of things, but at least I'll be ready when it's time.

Other than that, I need to finish my paper for the class I'm taking.

Have a great day! Fri, 27 Apr 2018 10:10:57 EST Thursday is dense, dense fog I actually slowed down on the way to work. This looks like summer weather. Thu, 26 Apr 2018 11:57:04 EST High Cholesterol LDL Hi everybody. I've been eating low carb for years. I have butter/mct coffee for breakfast everyday for the last 2 or so years. I just found out that my LDL has gone up in that time from about 160 to 300! My HDL is good up from 60 to 90, Trigs the same 130. But my doctor is freaking and wants me to go on statins. I don't want to. I guess maybe the butter coffee is too much? I also tend to binge on very dark chocolate during pms times, and I have gained about 8 lbs over the last year, resulting... Thu, 26 Apr 2018 00:04:49 EST Wednesday Hope everyone has a great day! Wed, 25 Apr 2018 02:52:47 EST Tuesday Sunny and warmish today. High 66.

DB Nick arrives today to stay for most of a week. He'll stay with Mom. I'll spend time with them.

Had a funny experience yesterday. I volunteered at an elementary school, and they asked me to go to a first grade class and try to keep two special ed kids from disrupting the rest of the class. One of the little girls has an extremely short attention span (like about two seconds) and the other just doesn't get reading or letters at all. Sw... Tue, 24 Apr 2018 12:49:33 EST Ridiculously warm Monday It's supposed to get up to 70 here today. Normally, that would be a hot summer day. Mon, 23 Apr 2018 11:36:07 EST Sunny Sunday Have a happy day! Sun, 22 Apr 2018 10:30:41 EST Saturday High of 71 today! Sat, 21 Apr 2018 10:34:30 EST Cataract surgery Got through my first surgery on my right eye. The actual surgery was a breeze. I remember being taken into a very bright lit room, and then waking up in recovery. My only problem was the pre and the post. They had some difficulty with my blood pressure, it was sky high. I would assume because I was a Space cadet, not knowing what would happen with the actual surgery. Then the rules started, the drops, no bending no driving, wear the shield for naps, sleep, and going outside (along with ... Fri, 20 Apr 2018 12:14:46 EST Friday I'm tired. Still tired. Yesterday I was exhausted after everyone left. Part of it was staying up late Wednesday night cleaning and then getting up early Thursday and cleaning some more. Part of it was being "on" for four and a half hours with people over here playing cards. Russell was exhausted, too. He was exhausted from spending all day at doggie day care where he ran around and played all day instead of spending most of the day napping. We both slept really well.

Cards went we... Fri, 20 Apr 2018 09:58:28 EST Thursday Having a bunch of women over this afternoon to play cards. I haven't heard from one woman, so don't know whether she's coming. (I called her twice, and am assuming she's out of town or something.) We play tables of four, and I have eight women coming - plus one extra if she comes. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Russell is at doggie day care. He's an escape artist and likely to get out with all the comings and goings.

Just got a call from Pauline saying she was coming. Someo... Thu, 19 Apr 2018 11:37:54 EST Wednesday Sunny, less wind, high about 60. Closer to normal for around here.

I'll take Mom to the doctor this morning, then go to the store to get stuff to feed the women coming over tomorrow afternoon for cards, then clean house. That's my plan for the day.

What's yours?
Wed, 18 Apr 2018 09:53:37 EST Tingly Tuesday No, I have no idea what that means. It's just what popped into my head when I wondered what T word to use. Why don't you tell us what it means to you?

Russell to the vet this morning for his second canine influenza shot, then to the post office to drop off a package. Class this afternoon. Cleaning before, between and after.

High in the 40s today, but it's no snowing or raining and it is sunny. I'll take it! Not that I have much choice in the matter... Tue, 17 Apr 2018 10:07:27 EST Murky Monday Yesterday was beautiful! Sunny, high near 70. Everyone was out working in their yards.

Today it's rainy and windy and high in the 40s.

I meet a Congolese woman, Rose, this afternoon at the Refugee Center. She's been in the States about 5 months and works a split shift, so she's working both when the morning English classes are held and when the evening classes are held. I was asked to tutor her individually during her break in the afternoon.

Terry is over th... Mon, 16 Apr 2018 10:14:18 EST Sunday Can't sleep so got up and read for an hour or so. Going back to bed in a few minutes. Sun, 15 Apr 2018 03:46:52 EST Saturday Too busy yesterday to check in, dinner with friends last night and then went to a hockey game. Today pretty much the whole state is shut down because of this blizzard, even the mall closed and that rarely happens. SIL and I are not going to mom and dad’s to do any packing today, just hunkering down at home. Actually, this blizzard might be a good thing as DH was supposed to shoot tennis today but since that’s cancelled he helped me clean the house. Now just have laundry to finish up. If it wa... Sat, 14 Apr 2018 14:18:08 EST Happy Friday the 13th! Hope the day doesn't live up to it's reputation! Fri, 13 Apr 2018 12:39:33 EST Snowy Spring! Yup, it's snowing. Not sticking, but definitely snowing. High wind advisory all day - or maybe warning, I don't remember. Sustained winds of 30 - 35, gusts 50 - 60. Yuck.

Handyman was supposed to call yesterday around 8:30 - 9:00 to make sure I was up before he came, but instead called between 3:30 and 4:00 to say he forgot. I'm supposed to call him when I get home from school and he'll come over to look at the bathroom floor.

I tried a new recipe last night. A casserole... Thu, 12 Apr 2018 10:29:44 EST Wonderful Wednesday! My handyman is supposed to be coming over this morning to check out my bathroom floor. It feels squishy. I hope it's just the floor covering not being secure rather than the subflooring.

That's all on the agenda for today. I just spent two hours cleaning the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom so it's reasonably clean and tidy for him.

Have a great day! Wed, 11 Apr 2018 10:52:27 EST Tropical Tuesday! "We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave."

(Why do we - or at least I - think ok jungles and humidity in the tropics? Aren't there deserts in the tropics, too?)

Anyway, high today is supposed to be 71. Nice!

The bathroom floor seems really squishy. Not sure if it's just that the floor covering (not linoleum, but some modern equivalent that comes in "tiles") is buckling or if there's a problem with the underflooring, or whatever you call the plywood or ... Tue, 10 Apr 2018 10:55:21 EST sandwiches How do you all make sandwiches and stay low carb? I like to have grilled ham and cheese or grilled turkey and cheese and I'm not sure how to do that without bread. Today I tried putting the ham in a pan with a slice of tomato and some cheese on it and heated it until the ham was warm and cheese melted, then put it on a leaf of romaine. Does anyone else have any ideas? Mon, 9 Apr 2018 13:55:34 EST Marvelous Monday! For those of us who are retired, anyway!

It's sunny, the wind has died down, and the high is supposed to be 62. On the other hand, there's frost on the rooftops, so it must have gotten cold overnight. That's OK, though, because I was tucked up nice and warm under my blankets overnight!

Today is my first day volunteering as a reading aide at the elementary school. The principal put me in the special ed class for some reason. We'll see how it goes. Only a month and a half ... Mon, 9 Apr 2018 09:58:22 EST Similar Sunday Another gray day. (Naypooie, it feels like Eureka!) Not raining at the moment, but it is supposed to later this morning. Fortunately, gray doesn't bother me. High of 53.

Will go to Mom's to refill her pill boxes and play some games, but that's about it. Maybe I'll return her undies (I got the wrong size) on the way there. Or not.

Have a great day.

Woubbie, if you have time to spend 20 minutes telling him how busy you are, you must not have enough to do! Sun, 8 Apr 2018 10:06:25 EST Soggy Saturday More rain (or drizzle) overnight. Supposed to be windy this afternoon through tomorrow. It's Spring!

Have a great day everyone. You survived the work week! Sat, 7 Apr 2018 10:09:19 EST Friday Another damp day today. You'd hardly think this is a desert!

Massage this afternoon, probably followed by a visit with Mom. Errands this morning.

Have a great day! Fri, 6 Apr 2018 10:42:50 EST Thursday Happy Post-Hump Day Day! Hope you all made it through with minimal damage to your psyche!

Not much going on here today. I'll take Mom to the doctor this morning. I have a bunch of questions relating to medications and her bleeding ulcer issue. Like what besides iron supplements and Pepto Bismol can cause black stools. So far I've found that Pepto, iron, beets, Jello, and licorice can all cause black stools. Also some other questions. Mom asked me why she needed to go if I was the o... Thu, 5 Apr 2018 10:22:57 EST Wednesday High today of 59, but cloudy. I'll take it! (Not that I have much choice about it!)

I volunteer at the elementary school library today. We'll see how it goes. I'm thinking I may need to volunteer somewhere else. My knees aren't as young as they were the last time I volunteered in a kid's library 15 years or so ago.

Then a quick stop at home to let Russell out and probably change clothes (get out of my white tennies) then on to bridge. Home probably about 4:30.
<B... Wed, 4 Apr 2018 10:00:39 EST Tuesday The weather cleared up. Should be nice today.

I'll take Russell over in a few minutes for a bath and pedicure and doggy play day. Class this afternoon and I haven't even looked at the syllabus, let alone done whatever it is I'm supposed to have done. Maybe swing by the library on my way home from picking up the mutt. Tue, 3 Apr 2018 09:59:15 EST Monday for real this time It’s Monday and for once I don’t mind – I took the day off! I need to get some steps in but it’s snowing so I’ll probably head to the mall to walk inside. Want to do some reading and I’m going with my parents back to the retirement community so they can put their deposit down and maybe look at the unit one more time.

I joined the same bike challenge that I did last year, it started yesterday but I’m not a die hard like some people around here who ride all winter so I’ll be waiting... Mon, 2 Apr 2018 10:29:32 EST Chicken stuffed with eggs? Once upon a time, I ran across a recipe for chicken that was stuffed with what I remember as being basically scrambled eggs. I thought it sounded intriguing, but haven't tried it. Now I can't find the recipe. Do any of you have a recipe for such a thing? Sun, 1 Apr 2018 13:00:36 EST FlyLady April Challenge: Day 30 Today is Sunday: Renew Your Spirit Day

This week we are in Zone 1: The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room

This month's Habit is: Making Your Bed

Morning Routine:
Get Dressed to Shoes including Hair/Face, Brush Teeth
Make Bed
Swish & Swipe
Empty Dishwasher
Reboot Laundry (a Load a Day Keeps CHAOS Away)
Check Your Calendar
Check Your Control Journal

... Sun, 1 Apr 2018 11:26:49 EST April Budget Challenge Ok, this month I'm going to do. Not necessarily actually budget, but at least track my spending. I WILL do this! Sun, 1 Apr 2018 10:01:26 EST Easter Monday! Happy Easter, everyone! Hope you have a wonderful day.

It's kind of late now, but what are your low carb Easter dinner plans? We're having Cornish game hens, green beans, tomato/cucumber/feta salad, maybe sauteed mushrooms, and strawberries. Ice cream for Mom but not for me. Sat, 31 Mar 2018 20:40:54 EST Saturday Hope you all have a wonderful day! Sat, 31 Mar 2018 09:36:36 EST Friday!!!! Start the day with a new HouseShareMate!! Change--Flexible--New Beginnings!!!

Baking chicken and cooking bacon in the oven at the same time.

Creating a salad with spinach, romaine, brocolli, bacon & mayonnaise. Yummmm! Fri, 30 Mar 2018 10:24:40 EST Fabulous Friday! The sun is out, the wind has died down, and the high is supposed to be in the mid-60s!

Errand running this morning - grocery shopping mostly, then take Mom over to pick up her car that was being serviced yesterday. Maybe I'll get out and do some work in the yard and garden.

Have a great day and a great weekend coming up! Fri, 30 Mar 2018 10:23:26 EST Thankful Thursday Mom was scheduled for another upper endoscopy today, but we decided to skip it because of the risks involved. Especially the anesthesia. It means watching more closely for signs of troubles, but I'm happy with the decision. We're running errands today, instead.

And that's about it. The sun is shining, the wind has died down (sustained winds of 35 mph yesterday, with higher gusts) and the high is supposed to be in the mid to upper 50s. Maybe Spring is really here! Thu, 29 Mar 2018 11:20:42 EST Wednesday -- Welcome! Let's get started!!! Yyyyiiippppeeee!!! Wed, 28 Mar 2018 12:50:19 EST It's only Tuesday? Feels like Wednesday for some reason.

Oh right, I worked Sunday. Tue, 27 Mar 2018 11:42:54 EST Mainly Monday Whatever that means.

Need to make some phone calls for Mom today. Book Club at noon. I haven't made it to Book Club since last summer. Japanese class interfered last fall, then Mom's health issues in January and I just didn't go in February. While I would rather stay home alone (but not lonely), I know that I need to socialize some for mental and emotional health reasons. At least there's something going on and I don't have to sit around and chat - or listen to others chat around m... Mon, 26 Mar 2018 10:24:34 EST Sunday? Already? I definitely should have gone to bed hours ago. Sun, 25 Mar 2018 04:18:52 EST Sunny Saturday I do love Spring and sunshine and flowers!

I'm calling Mom's PPC on Monday for a referral to a memory specialist. I got to thinking about things in bed this morning and I'm not so sure she's ok home alone. She kept asking why she needed an xray of her knee, and asked at least half a dozen times in the four hours or so between the doctor's appointment and the ultrasound of her leg what it was for. "Oh, yeah. I remember something about a blood clot." Her PPC's nurse pretty much asked... Sat, 24 Mar 2018 11:45:29 EST Friday's child is loving and giving, or so I've heard! (Had to double check but yes, I was born on a Friday! Woohoo!)

Quiet so far at work, so I should be slogging through my task list and getting on top of the game, but my heart just isn't in it. *sigh*

I'd better get back to it. I want to have a lot of things buttoned up by the end of the day, including some personal stuff. Time to crack that whip!
46 Fri, 23 Mar 2018 11:50:14 EST Thursday is wet! Wet is good. At least up on this end of California. Thu, 22 Mar 2018 11:35:39 EST What's up with the weather Wednesday Wed, 21 Mar 2018 11:31:01 EST Tuesday, first day of Spring! Hugs Sun, 18 Mar 2018 12:01:09 EST Hello all! Hello everyone, you can call me Raven. I’m a 44yr old mom of three who needs to lose more weight than I care to usually think about. I’m not new to sparks, though I’ll admit this is a newer account, but I’ve been off and on sparks for at least five years.

In the last few weeks I’ve been dabbling with keto with pretty decent results. I’m mainly looking for a team that I can vent to sometimes, encourage other times, be encouraged by, and share the occasional recipe with.

... Sat, 17 Mar 2018 16:51:07 EST Slippery Saturday Everything is covered in a layer of ice today. I’ll wait awhile to go get groceries, hopefully it will have melted a bit. I slept in today, I’m always amazed at how much more energy I have when I get enough sleep. I did a Classical Stretch DVD segment and now I’m tackling the Saturday chores. Having the family over for dinner tomorrow to celebrate birthdays, my dad (yesterday) and my older brother (next week).

Enjoy your day! Sat, 17 Mar 2018 12:01:02 EST A nice fresh Friday It SHOULD be a low stress day - election's over and I'm hanging out with my sons tonight - but I think it's kind of a level 6 stress day anyway.

Went to a Happy Hour last night to celebrate the LAMBSLIDE on Tuesday, anddddddd got handed a pile of walking and working for the weekend. Just to get us started!! Hugs Wed, 14 Mar 2018 13:16:19 EST Getting my husband fully on board Hi all!

So I've been back on low carb for 1.5 weeks now. I'm doing well, feeling surprising well (no low carb flu- yet), I have way more energy than usual, I'm not spending half my life starving and thinking about my next meal, and I've even lost 4 pounds as of this morning. I love to cook, so Gary (my husband) has been enjoying the low carb meals I've made. However, his snacks are not low carb, and he's not losing weight (he's actually gained 0.8 pounds). I've tried to tell hi... Wed, 14 Mar 2018 10:29:04 EST Tuesday Hope Tuesday goes better for everyone!

High today of 64. Class this afternoon, then I'll go over to Mom's and help her organize her freezer. One of her two deep freezes died last year and the refrigerator freezer got very sick but was fixed and everything got shoved in her remaining deep freeze. She's been waiting for warmer weather to organize it, since it's in the unheated freezer.

Tue, 13 Mar 2018 10:45:20 EST Monday. Ugh. Yeah, you heard me. Back in the wind tunnel from hell. It's only 10:49 and I'm already desperate to get out of here.

198

Hope everyone else is having a happier Monday, lol! Mon, 12 Mar 2018 10:49:52 EST Help - I fell off the wagon!! Last year I lost 30 pounds eating low carb (ADA guidelines, not Keto per nutritionist and doctor). I reached my first goal - getting under the prediabetes number. I was so excited and decided a could cheat a little for a day or two. That has turned into nine months and 40 pounds. I am trying to start behaving again, I had found wonderful recipes so that is not the issue, I just feel stuck :/ Sun, 11 Mar 2018 13:35:57 EST Sunday morning - I hate daylight savings time I woke at what the motel clock said was 04:15, then couldn't get back to sleep. I looked at the clock when it said 04:45 and remembered the time change. I'd planned to get up at 6 to work out anyway, so I just got up a few minutes earlier. Sure would have been nice to get another hour of sleep though.

The good news is that Arizona doesn't do the daylight savings foolishness. Saves us from the time change there. Sun, 11 Mar 2018 09:57:01 EST Saturday Good morning! Sat, 10 Mar 2018 09:58:13 EST Friday This morning I meet with the principal of the nearest elementary school about volunteering there. This afternoon I have a massage. And I remembered to put the garbage out - BEFORE the garbageman got here! Should be a great day. Fri, 9 Mar 2018 09:59:06 EST Who still logs everything? I hadn't been logging and was just going by appetite and wasn't getting anywhere fast. So I started logging again noticed I'm getting too many calories (for me). I've been doing IF and 24 hour fasting once a week and still not losing even with the exercise. The carbs are good, I average 16 NC per day but 1600 calories. In 6 weeks, I've only lost 8 pounds.

Thu, 8 Mar 2018 12:58:17 EST Take it away Thursday Got a massage scheduled for this afternoon, hope it takes me away! Thu, 8 Mar 2018 12:21:46 EST Thursday: Day 4 of my hostage situation Thu, 8 Mar 2018 12:21:05 EST Wacky Wednesday Got a call this morning while I was still in bed asking me to play bridge this afternoon. (OK, so it was 8:30 so not really TOO early.) Haven't played in months and never was a very good player. I need to review the bidding rules before I go. For those who don't play bridge, a lot of times the suit you bid doesn't mean you actually have that suit or that it's you're best suit. Often it's just supposed to tell your partner how many points you have or how many cards you have in another suit. <... Wed, 7 Mar 2018 11:43:02 EST Tingling Tuesday It's cold this morning! Sunny, though, and it's supposed to get all the way up to 42 today. Highs have been in the 30s for, it seems, at least a couple of weeks. Should be about 50. Supposed to get back up where it belongs later this week.

Beautiful, though. Sunny, the wind has died down, blue sky, puffy little white clouds.

Anthropology class today and I have two assignments I need to do so I can turn them in. Our big semester assignment is to create a tribe that has n... Tue, 6 Mar 2018 10:29:42 EST Yup I'm new too!!! So much info out here on low carb,I was getting confused so I decided to look up on SP for teams I can hook up with.
I need simplicity otherwise I get over whelmed. It's just me on this journey so I'm looking for awesome LC vegetable ideas also that taste great(Picky eater).
I was loving Atkins bars until someone said their bad for you.
On and off since 1/1/18 do 20 carbs a day so now I need structure to start again!
Mon, 5 Mar 2018 13:18:38 EST Monday - waiting again Nephew left his daughter here last night when he went to work, so here I sit, waiting for him to get home. Should be soon if his relief showed up on time (07:00), but often isn't.

He's going to have to figure out something else next Monday, I will be off on my road trip. He didn't sound dismayed at all when I told him I'd be gone, so I'm pretty sure he has options. For that matter, I have no idea why the child's mother can't keep her. I don't mind if she's here on my weekend (h... Mon, 5 Mar 2018 10:15:27 EST Hi! Hello all - I'm new again and returning to the group after at least a couple years!
I am on day 14 of a low carb macro-patterning 'diet'. Recommended to me by a friend and I am really enjoying it! Coupled with a new membership to a gym where I've pretty much just been walking on a treadmill to get back into exercise.
I've lost about 15lbs, a few due to having the flu, but now down to a slower but steady loss.
I'm excited to connect with others for support and post and ... Sun, 4 Mar 2018 17:10:44 EST March grocery budget challenge I can't believe I'm starting this thread, since I don't actually budget, just track.

Anyway, I think I mentioned last month, I want to do a no spend week to get me to use up what food I already have. Since I'm planning a road trip thru Arizona starting next Saturday, I'm starting my no spend week yesterday so it can end Friday. Hard to travel for a week plus and not spend money on food. So I'll balance the eating out with a week of no spending.

I had planned to shop ye... Sun, 4 Mar 2018 13:28:31 EST Hello! Hi all!

My name is Angela, and I'm coming back to low carb on the advice of my doctor. I've tried it before, but usually ended up falling off the wagon hard, typically because everyone thought it was nuts. This time, my husband and best friend are doing it with me, and I'm just not going to tell my dad (who always told me I was crazy- but he's now in a nursing home from complications from diabetes, and one of my main goals is to lose weight and get healthy and *not* end up with t... Sun, 4 Mar 2018 12:55:42 EST Sunday-- sleepless in California I guess I'm paying for the planting I did last week. My neck is out of whack. So, a trip to the chiro tomorrow will be on my list of first to do. Ugh. I'll probably have him work on my lower back as well as its been giving me fits too. Getting older is NOT for the faint of heart.
I spent yesterday with my oldest daughter, cleaning the barn up and getting stalls bedded for incoming goats. I have to laugh. She is getting into this with the same enthusiasm I had (overdoing it...... Sun, 4 Mar 2018 07:34:07 EST Snowy Saturday What crazy weather. After being unseasonably warm for a month or so, it's turned unseasonably cold. And we've had snow several days. Not much here in the valley, but some. They were supposed to get about two feet this week up in the mountains. Some of the ski areas had closed because of lack of snow but opened up this weekend.

Sat, 3 Mar 2018 10:08:08 EST Friday again! And that's a good thing! Can't wait to escape! Thu, 1 Mar 2018 11:12:22 EST Wet and wild Thursday Finally, a winter storm. I think we may actually get some water out of it. Too bad it wasn't doing this the past couple months, solve our drought problem. Wed, 28 Feb 2018 19:34:34 EST It is Wednesday isn't it? Hump Day!

Today isn't an official weigh in day, and ordinarily I won't get on the scale because the lack of loss (isn't that a double negative?) is much too frustrating but this morning I was feeling particularly light and hopped on. Down almost 3 pounds! Let's hope it keeps up till Sunday- the official day. Wed, 28 Feb 2018 12:33:06 EST Tuesday Scrabble Night tonight at the library. Haven't played Scrabble in years (decades?) but a friend really likes to play so we're going. Don't expect to do very well. Haven't memorized all the two letter words or the Q words. Oh well. We'll see how it goes. I need to go to the library anyway to return books and to get new books.

No class today. The teacher is off to some conference. Have to remember to do my homework, though, and get it turned in electronically.

And that's ... Tue, 27 Feb 2018 09:41:44 EST Safe travels Safe travels, Debb! It must be about time for you to leave so don't know when you'll see this. And enjoy how roomy the seats will be and how spacious the restrooms on the plane have become!

Hope your travels are safe and easy and boring and that you and Monster Dog have a happy reunion. Tue, 27 Feb 2018 01:34:58 EST Barely Monday I need to get to bed. Mon, 26 Feb 2018 02:23:21 EST Sunless Sunday Of course, it IS only 43 minutes past midnight. No clue what it will be after the sun rises.

I've been sitting here reading and listening to music on YouTube. AdBlock stops the ads so it isn't annoying.

I should probably go to bed, but I am enjoying the music. Sun, 25 Feb 2018 03:46:11 EST Saturday Snow expected today and through Tuesday. Winter is making a belated appearance.

Had a massage yesterday. Nice!

Have a great weekend! Sat, 24 Feb 2018 10:53:55 EST Freezing Friday A hard freeze for central California this morning. Glad I covered my *maters*. They will remain covered for a while yet. Maybe all day. I'm planning to head up to the mountains today, if the snow/ice isn't bad, to visit with my SIL. They moved up there about the same time we moved here, and I have yet to see their home settled in. She isn't a person you can drop in on, and everytime I've tried she had a reason for us NOT to come. So we've had NO snow this year and the one day I plan... Fri, 23 Feb 2018 10:40:43 EST Thursday Took Mom to two doctors appointments yesterday. Follow ups from her stint in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer six weeks ago. Her hemoglobin and hematocrit (measures of iron in the blood and by extension whether there's any more bleeding) are both back to normal so apparently no more bleeding.

We talked to her PCP about her memory, which isn't great, and he said it was probably just age related. (She's 92). He did check her B-12 and thyroid levels, both of which can affect memory.... Thu, 22 Feb 2018 10:07:19 EST Chris Kresser "Shrink the Change" This was in an email from Chris Kresser this week and I thought it had some really valuable advice:

"According to some estimates, less than 10 percent of people are able to stick with their resolutions for more than a few months. Why?

"Is it because we’re just lazy and unmotivated? Is there something fundamentally wrong with us that causes us to act in ways that are not in our best interest?

"No. The real reason so many of us are unsuccessful with change is si... Wed, 21 Feb 2018 15:32:54 EST Wednesday Wow! What crazy weather around the country! Yesterday was the coldest morning so far this year, and the second coldest for this winter season. It got down to 1, but it got down to -1 one morning in December. High yesterday was 21. Highs for the next seven days supposed to be in the 30s, which is pretty close to average. Woubbie, hope the plants don't get too excited by the warm and come out and then get hit with a hard freeze. Stay safe on the ice and be sure and tuck your tortoise back under... Wed, 21 Feb 2018 10:30:07 EST Tuesday It's a bright, bright, bright, bright sun-shiny day! Cold (high today of only 27) but lots of blue sky and sunshine and just a very light breeze. Tue, 20 Feb 2018 10:39:24 EST New to team Hi everyone! My name is Trish, and I turn 54 next week. I have about 130 pounds to lose. I am new to this team as of today, but I have been a SP member for years. I have done low carb off and on for years, but this time I am living the lifestyle, not dieting! I started officially on January 15th, and although the scale is not reflecting it, the inches are falling away. I'm proud to say not one cheat day so far, and no desire to cheat! Anyway, looking for support and inspiration, and this look... Mon, 19 Feb 2018 17:49:49 EST Monday mischief! So, its Monday again. A Holiday for many but more of the same for most of us. I'll be planting again when it warms up a bit. Right now am enjoying the fire and coffee. Hope all have a great start to the week! Hugs and positive thoughts to all! Mon, 19 Feb 2018 11:14:15 EST Sunday Called Mom last night to see how her pill boxes were doing, and they were empty. I thought I had filled them last Sunday. She managed to take her prescription pills yesterday and this morning and I went over and refilled her boxes. Fortunately she only has two prescriptions and even they aren't anything that would be critical if she missed a dose or two.

Mom was going to come over for supper tonight, but there have been snow flurries off and on. The roads are clear - high yesterda... Sun, 18 Feb 2018 15:53:08 EST Saturday High today of 54. In February! In Idaho! High Monday in the 20s. I need to get out and make up my lasagna bed. I made a raised bed out of cinder blocks and have been using it as a compost pile. I need to pile a bunch of peat moss, compost, manure and soil on it so it has a chance to decompose and blend and make a nice rich garden bed. Today should be a good day to do it. Sat, 17 Feb 2018 10:48:23 EST TGIF Sunny, chilly, going to take the dog for a walk and go home early. Fri, 16 Feb 2018 12:32:42 EST Thursday It's supposed to snow here a bit today, it'll make for a nice walk. No other plans for me today.

Take care of yourselves today and be "there", wherever that may be 211 Thu, 15 Feb 2018 08:32:48 EST Happy Valentine's Day! Got any plans? Mom was going to come over for supper, but with the possibility of bad weather - and hence bad roads - we decided to wait and have supper together on Friday. So no plans for me. Wed, 14 Feb 2018 02:52:30 EST Tuesday Class today. Need to read the chapter and do the homework. And read the first three chapters, too, for that matter!

Also need to clean and tidy at least the public rooms of the house since Mom's coming over for supper tomorrow.

Will go over to Mom's house today and play a game or two. And go to the store that's near her house and get the food for supper tomorrow.

How about you? What are your plans? Tue, 13 Feb 2018 10:26:28 EST Snowy Monday! Which shouldn't be so rare around here, but is this year. Which is a huge change from last year when we had snow literally for months on end.

They're predicting 1 - 3 inches of snow which makes today a great day to stay inside and hibernate! I need to get the store either today or tomorrow, but I think I'll go tomorrow. It's supposed to warm up so the roads should be fine by then. In the meantime, I have a pile of books to read, homework to do, and a house to clean and tidy before... Mon, 12 Feb 2018 11:16:00 EST New to low carb HI Everyone
I'm thinking of trying low carb. I'm at that age in my life where the weight is not moving no matter what I do. Also just recently I have been put on high blood pressure medicine. I need to lose about 30 lbs. I absolutely hate being on this medicine. At this point I'm not sure if it is hereditary or not but would love to see what I could do to improve my overall health. I also occasionally suffer from anxiety so when I'm not feeling good it kicks in my anxiety. I have read se... Mon, 12 Feb 2018 08:27:34 EST Sunday Nothing special planned for today. I'll go over to Mom's and help her change her sheets. Don't need to do her laundry - she did it herself yesterday. (The issue with doing laundry is that the washer and dryer are in the basement.) I wish she'd let me do it for her, or at least do it when it I'm there, but she won't. Which is good in a lot of ways, but I do worry about the stairs.

I want to take a bath! I really really really want to take a bath. A nice, long, hot, soaking bath for ... Sun, 11 Feb 2018 11:14:43 EST Saturday
The puppies have arrived and one of the males will be mine! I am so excited.

abies;jsessionid=fr7xwbxc41.cow_s
Sat, 10 Feb 2018 09:41:04 EST Friday! Looks to be a beautiful day, though I think it's supposed to be about 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. Which still leaves it 10+ degrees above average for this time of year. I'm seeing a lot of new growth and buds and such in the yards and gardens. There are even daffodils well up though not quite blooming about a block from my house. Definitely buds, and one even showed a hint of color, though not out yet. Fri, 9 Feb 2018 11:01:56 EST Thursday Hard to get back into a reasonable cycle of getting up and getting to bed.

Nothing official planned for today. Need to talk to the college and find out why emails aren't going to my college email account. Go to Mom's house. Do a bit of housework and maybe some yard work. That's about it.

They said on the news last night that we might meet or break the record high for today. Low 60s. And this is supposed to be winter? I see some green stuff poking up in the yards, and m... Thu, 8 Feb 2018 09:43:05 EST Wednesday? At least I think it's Wednesday. It is, isn't it? For some reason when I went to put that in the Topic line it didn't seem right. But I guess nothing else sounds any righter.

Did not sleep well last night. A good thing I don't have anything planned for today except a trip to the library. Or maybe I'll wait until tomorrow to go to the library. It would make sense to stop by Mom's house on the way home and I should maybe give her a day off.

Connie, have a good trip! Wed, 7 Feb 2018 09:50:31 EST Tuesday And the thread is started late again! What is it about Tuesdays, anyway?

Class today and I still haven't done my homework. Guess I'd better get to it.

That's all I have planned for today. Class and homework. Tue, 6 Feb 2018 12:44:57 EST Monday And I'm home! Actually, I got home yesterday, but today is my first full day at home. And last night was my first night in my own bed. WooHoo!

Today I'm going to do some housework and maybe some yard work. Depends on how my knee feels. And I need to pick up an Rx for Mom at KMart, and I'll look for undies while I'm there. Then check on Mom and probably play a game or two. And enjoy having computer access! Oh, and I have to write a half page paper for my Anthropology class. I need N... Sun, 4 Feb 2018 21:20:00 EST Anyone use smoked turkey wings? I didn't put this down below because no one ever goes there. I'm looking for a turkey soup recipe I can eat, not like that shape shifting stuff I wrote about a while back. And BTW, the psyllium husk powder did work as a thickener for the white enchilada sauce I made. And it was good! Sun, 4 Feb 2018 20:54:33 EST Sunday Good morning!

It's 4:30 and I've been awake for an hour. The only bright spot is an extra hour of tablet time and coffee.

A shower, breakfast and exercise is the agenda. A bit of cooking and the dreaded taxes. I'll start slow and just make the basic piles. That should do it for today.

Have a wonderful day and take time to chill! Sun, 4 Feb 2018 08:34:15 EST Good Morning! Hi everyone.

Just joined this team. I've been keto-ing since Dec 3/17 and have lost 16 pounds (avg 2#/week which is spectacular for me).
My introduction to keto was with Ideal Protein Aug/15. Lost 20 pounds, cheated a LOT (carb-creep and wine) and when I could no longer justify the $$ I got off Ideal Protein, gained nearly all the weight back and now I'm ketoing without the space food.
Mostly, I'm just a lurker at this point, but I'm always game to try something new. Will be glad to get home where only Russell is around to be disturbed.

Mom's kicking me out! Not because. I can't sleep but because she says she'll do just fine without me. Which she will. Tentatively planning to move out on Monday. Will be good for lots of reasons, not least of which is eating my own food. No, mom doesn't try to get me to eat off plan. In fact, after almost 15 years of eating low carb she knows w... Sat, 3 Feb 2018 05:55:41 EST Friday! The time you wake up and realize it's Friday and it brings a smile to your face never gets old. Fri, 2 Feb 2018 09:29:29 EST February grocery budget challenge I'll start the new thread even though I'm still at moms house.

I'll probably go home in the next week or so. I think she's ok to stay alone now. I was staying because her dog wasn't doing well and I wanted to be here to take dog to vet if necessary. It was. I took her in this morning to be put to sleep. My parents had had her since she was a puppy, almost 14.5 years. She and mom have lived alone since dad died 6 years ago this month. I figure I should stick around for a while.
... The vet said it was a degenerative condition and that she might have s couple of months or she could have a couple of years. It is clearly her time. I hope mom agrees. I added a scoop of pysillium to a glass of warmish water this morning and almost immediately it started to congeal. This gave me an idea- can it be used to thicken sauces? It had rather the same texture as xanthum gum. Wed, 31 Jan 2018 17:31:39 EST Happy Hump Day! Looks I'm first today! Good morning team!

Acupuncture was awesome. So I'm going to plan lunches and snack to take along. Tuesday shouldn't be too bad, we don't start until 13:00, so I can stuff myself with LC before going, and just take some veggies or nuts for snacks. "Did you eat low carb YESTERDAY?" The purpose is to keep me more honest. If asked in the morning, I will say that Yes, I'll eat low carb. But my weakest time is late afternoon. I usually don't do any SP in the afternoon and evening, hence the reason for asking about the day before.
You're welcome to join. I didn't see a daily thread started, so I'll start one!

I had a really good day yesterday! I took my Littles out into the community yesterday for our monthly community-based instruction (CBI). It was a fabulous experience. After teaching for five years, I find that the people we encounter while on our trips can make or break our trips. Luckily, we encountered several people with a servant's heart who seemed to love our kids as much as we do! We went to Dunkin' Donuts... Sat, 27 Jan 2018 10:34:29 EST Friday Frolics And its Friday!! Wed, 24 Jan 2018 10:59:32 EST Wednesday Okay, just throwing the day out there to get it started.
Good morning everyone! Cool and foggy here in central California this morning. Fire is on and watching Dr. Phil. Dinner and a live show out tonite with our oldest granddaughter. I have trouble staying up past 7:30 (show starts at 7) so hoping the show is active enuf to keep me awake. I think the show is called *Kinky Boots*. Should be fun.
Have a great day everyone! Wed, 24 Jan 2018 10:57:21 EST New Beginings Hi Everyone! I am looking forward to learning from you and cheering you on. I am starting the low-carb life tomorrow and I am a bit freaked as I have a SERIOUS Pepsi addiction. BUT...I know this works and my goals are more important than a Pepsi, right? Excited to take this journey with you! Tue, 23 Jan 2018 20:39:04 EST Tuesday?? postings yet? Tuesday must not be happening or everyone is hiding their heads in the sands of Tuesday.
A day *off*. Not watching the grandchildren today. Doing things like cleaning, laundry, deep cleaning the stovetop. Just stuff and maintenance in my book. Things are picked up and dinner is prepped. Doing some garlic/parmesan chicken wings tonite. Marinated tomatoes and beets, with avocado and lettuce. Nothing too strenuous today, just futzing around.
Hope... Just enough to probably make the roads slippery.

I'll take mom to doc this afternoon. That's about all that's planned for today. Oh and take dogs for a walk. Probably a slippery muddy walk since we have to walk on grass because of sandy's foot problem.

I'm ready to go home. I don't mind being here if mom needs me which she does, actually. Today is bright and sunny.

Found a place yesterday to walk Sandy. She drags her hind foot so bad she was scuffing her nail down to the quick and bleeding. Tried a doggy sock and she wore through it in half a block. There's a soccer field really close where she can walk on grass. Seems silly to drive there when its so close but that's what we have to do. The dogs both like it.

Nothing else planned for today.

Hope you have ... Sat, 20 Jan 2018 11:29:34 EST Friday It's finally Friday! Hope it goes well for everyone.

Talked briefly with mom about when I'll go home. She said she doesn't want to get rid of me (my words) but isn't sure its good for her to have me here because I do so much of the work. So I told her I'd let her wait on me hand and foot for a few days. Hard to know where to draw the line. I told her I'd stay at least until I was confident she'd take her pills as scheduled.

A couple of errands today and a dog walk, thoug... Fri, 19 Jan 2018 11:05:07 EST Thursday Skipped my first class Tuesday. Cultural anthropology. Sent email to prof before class explaining and asking for links etc. No response. I found some info online and will have to just go with that.

Mom is doing ok physically. I would be comfortable leaving her and going home. I let her let the dog out this morning going up and down the stairs.

Mentally I'm not as comfortable. She has two new pills that she takes twice a day. I wrote out the directions (little white pill,... Thu, 18 Jan 2018 11:27:57 EST Great alternative for low carb breakfast I have a tendency to get bored with my food and that sometimes makes me stray from eating the way I should, plus lots of times I don't feel like the food I eat gives me enough good fiber. I was surfing Pinterest yesterday and came across a recipe for Noatmeal - low carb oatmeal. I had all of the ingredients so I whipped up a batch this morning - I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is. I entered in the Spark recipe calculator and it comes up to 359 calories, 14 carbs but with 11 grams of... Thu, 18 Jan 2018 09:43:41 EST Wednesday Day started early (for us) with nurse coming to draw blood at 8. Bath aid should be here soon (9) to help mom shower. What she really wants is a bath! If bath aid can't do bath will see if PT on Monday will let get in and out of tub fully dressed so he can help if necessary.

Mom is going to get back to normal without any extra help. Just ask her.

Will go to petsmart and try to find sock for sandy. Her back paw has been bleeding whenever I take her for a walk. She drags i... Wed, 17 Jan 2018 11:13:57 EST Anyone have Gout? What do you eat? Since 10/16, I have had two attacks. Everything I read says you can have this but not this; unfortunately all the foods are on both lists. So confusing.

All I have been able to figure out is drink lots of water and have no HFCS. I am going to be adding tart cherries, if I can find them. Other wise I will be eating lots of carrots, beets, apples and celery. I already only eat small amounts of chicken and venison.

I think cold feet and dehydration probably brought on... Wed, 17 Jan 2018 09:19:21 EST Tuesday I am briefly at home and taking advantage of having internet access on my computer.

Mom is doing really well, and if it weren't for the steps down to the living room to let Sandy out, I'd be almost comfortable leaving her home alone and coming back to my house. Or I would be in a couple of days, anyway. But I am not comfortable with the steps, so will be staying there a while longer.

Sandy is 14+ and taking prednizone, so drinks a lot and has to go out a lot. She's at ... Tue, 16 Jan 2018 11:23:05 EST Monday Mom is doing amazingly well. A huge change from a few days ago. Follow up appointments Sith GI doc and home health (for bath aid and physical therapy). May have to wait til tomorrow to get those scheduled because of the holiday.

A beautiful day today. I like it.
Mon, 15 Jan 2018 11:00:36 EST Sunny Sunday And I'm feeling well. I sincerely hope I hold the energy and be productive today. I've been a slug for three days past, enough is enough. Sun, 14 Jan 2018 12:18:01 EST Saturday A quick note before I pack away my computer to take to Mom's.

Nothing to say, just have a great day! Sat, 13 Jan 2018 08:59:53 EST TGIF! And I really mean it because I'm taking the weekend off... even with the load that's in my inbox.

Today I'm kicking out as much of that load as possible, and just realized that the client who is struggling to pay his monthly payroll tax deposit gets one extra day due to the holiday on Monday.

I'm working at the PT job later and I think that's all. Much less bouncing around today than yesterday.

Halibut for dinner! Yay! Fri, 12 Jan 2018 11:35:40 EST Friday! Let's get going! I think I'll be leaving early today, since weird and wild weather is on its way. Gonna get my grocery shopping and Target shopping done and head home before dark.

Happy Friday all! Fri, 12 Jan 2018 11:33:59 EST Thursday Can't sleep. Don't think I'm particularly worried about Mom. I'm not conscious of it if I am. Just can't sleep.

I think we may be moving back to Mom's house. Sandy has a neurological condition in her spine that makes her not have great control over her back end. She's having trouble on the uncarpeted dining room and kitchen here. I'm afraid she'll hurt herself. Mom's house is carpeted everywhere, including kitchen and bathrooms. Sandy does better there. Unfortunately, I live reall... Thu, 11 Jan 2018 05:25:14 EST Wednesday After a couple of days of rain and drizzle, the sun is shining today. Nice. The rain was nice, too. Almost all the snow is melted. Big difference from last year.

Wed, 10 Jan 2018 11:02:10 EST Turnt up Tuesday LOL I think it means a good day. LOL Slang is so elusive sometimes! Trying to hit the floor running today with my goals. I missed a couple days coming in here (dang TOM started and I was down for 2 day, today isn't much better)

Staying on track, even went to the gym yesterday! They say mid 60's by Thursday. I . cannot. wait. LOL Tue, 9 Jan 2018 08:05:04 EST Monday And back to the first full work-week of the year! And the start of the second calendar week of the year. I guess things are mostly back to normal.

Unless you happened to be trying to fly through JFK Airport yesterday. What a mess.

Nothing much planned for the day. Walking the dogs, putting away laundry, changing the sheets. Really exciting stuff.

Have a great day! And remember that boring (times, that is, not necessarily personalities!) aren't a bad thing a... Mon, 8 Jan 2018 10:04:29 EST Instant pot recipes I would love some ideas of things to cook in my new instant pot I got for Christmas! I see in the library catalog there are keto recipe books out there for it but they're all on hold at my library. Does anyone have any tried and true recipes to share? Thanks! Sun, 7 Jan 2018 17:20:56 EST SUNday It really is. Sun, 7 Jan 2018 12:14:47 EST Saturday High today of 37, and drizzling. Could be much, much worse!

Didn't get the errands done yesterday, so will do them this morning. Winco (grocery shopping), the library, the Animal Shelter (for dog licenses and play with the cats while I'm there), Mom's house to take Sandy for a walk and play a game or two, Albertson's (hamburger on sale) on the way home.

Not much else to report.

Have a great weekend! Sat, 6 Jan 2018 10:03:50 EST Friday I am so mixed up date-wise. Was New Year's Day really this week? And Christmas was only last week? Seems like forever.

Nothing planned for today except the usual. Take Russell for a walk. Go to Mom's and take Sandy for a walk and play a few games. Cut up a bunch of Russell food. Do dishes. Well, I guess there are a couple of different things planned. I need to go to the library and to the animal shelter to get new licenses for Sandy and Russell. And I'll need to do some grocery sh... Fri, 5 Jan 2018 10:02:59 EST Thursday I am a very lucky woman.

I was sound asleep and in the middle of a dream, when I became aware of Russell sort of playing with me. I didn't think anything of it, other than that it was kind of cute (I was still asleep), when I suddenly realized that Russell was trying to get my attention! And it was early in the morning so he probably wasn't just being playful... So I jumped out of bed and rushed him to the door and he went, without even stopping by his food bowl first. And was out... Thu, 4 Jan 2018 10:02:21 EST Wednesday Yesterday was a much better day! Or, to be more precise, I did much better yesterday. Much better.

Not much planned for today. I'll go over to Mom's this morning and walk Sandy and maybe play games. She has cleaning people coming in sometime today but she doesn't know when. I'll try to make a doctor's appointment for her. Her memory has gotten really bad. It may just be old age, or it may be something they can do something about. It's certainly worth a trip to the doctor to see. Sh... Wed, 3 Jan 2018 10:53:52 EST Tuesday Can't sleep so got up. My legs are dancing, so I took another pill for it. I sometimes have really bad restless legs.

it will be good to get back to a "normal" routine. I won't really be back to normal until next week. Having Monday a holiday gets me all messed up with what day it is.

We've had snow on the ground for about a week and a half, which is unusual, but it hasn't been particularly cold and we don't have very much snow. Most of the roads are clear, which is a ... Tue, 2 Jan 2018 03:36:39 EST January Food Budget Challenge Are you looking for encouragement and support as you whittle down your food budget? This is the place!

There are no rules, except to be supportive and encouraging. You figure out what your budget is, based on your family, your income, your location, your life style, your food plan, etc. I know that the very same food here in Idaho would cost a whole lot more in NYC, for example. So would eating organic and/or local instead of shopping at Winco, and so on.

Use this chall... Sat, 30 Dec 2017 10:52:39 EST Meal Ideas Needed!!! Atkins Induction. Hey y’all!

I am in need of some meal ideas. One of the challenges I have the low-carb is not getting enough calories in a day. And following more of the Atkins 20/Keto and at this time am doing induction. I’m finding it hard to reach and about 1400 cal per day. I have a few weeks of this phase so throw me some ideas! Much appreciated 211 Sat, 30 Dec 2017 09:08:00 EST Friday Didn't sleep well. Woke up about 3:30 with a stuffed up nose. Hard to sleep with a stuffed up nose when you use a CPAP for sleep apnea. Hung laundry, then decided to plan my menus. Its' 5:30 now. Should turn on the furnace and go back to bed. Fri, 29 Dec 2017 07:32:48 EST Thursday...last one of 2017 Here it is, the final Thursday of 2017. This year has flown by.
I'm down with another cold. Last one was short. Hoping this one is too. Taking a trip next week for a few days. I don't want to be sick through that.
Trying to get back on track with extreme low carb. Weight has been creeping up due to both too much and carb creep. I'm trying to find that magic place again where my will power is stronger than the pull of food. I'm not eating badly, just too much. Sigh... Thu, 28 Dec 2017 11:04:35 EST Wednesday Lots of white stuff outside. Still pretty. There's enough of the stuff that the roads are still white, too. Most of the sidewalks are cleared, though. Russell and I were able to take a walk yesterday. High today of 37, and highs in the low 40s the next two days, so the snow won't last. Sure glad I don't live in Erie, PA! Chandara, take care! You, too, Kris.

May go to Winco and Walmart today. I need some food, though I could get by a few days without. I'd like to find about 30 feet... Wed, 27 Dec 2017 10:35:07 EST Boxing Day Do you still celebrate Boxing Day in Great Britain? For those who don't know what it is, it's the day after Christmas.

Had a good day yesterday. We did Dirty Santa in the morning. Everyone provided three gifts, then we picked packages. You could either pick a new package or "steal" something someone else had unwrapped. A few mismatches - I don't drink and I got a set of drink mixers, and 82 year old widower got two bars of goat milk soap - but they got straightened out either with ... Tue, 26 Dec 2017 10:18:48 EST Christmas Day Merry Christmas, team, and to those of you who may not celebrate it, I wish you a peaceful, happy day.

I'm off to a slowish start. I've got to pack up food to take to my mom's, but yesterday with the in-laws was long, fun, tiring, and included way too many adult beverages. It's been a bit carby-ish but not out of control.

My SIL gave me a plush microfiber throw and Bella fell in love with it last night... Her eyes got big when I unfolded it, and she was on my lap the ... Mon, 25 Dec 2017 12:54:21 EST Merry Christmas Quiet here this morning, no kid, nephew sleeping. My daughter's idiot dog got into a bag of coffee beans she had under the tree for nephew, tore a hole and scattered about a dozen beans around while I was at the gym. He apparently likes the smell, but doesn't seem to eat it. He's an idiot. Mon, 25 Dec 2017 12:51:05 EST Christmas Eve musings... .......... Getting ready to celebrate our Christmas Eve with the traditional Swedish Smorgasboard (also called groaning board). Lots of fun and laughter tonite and enjoying family. Hope everyone has a blessed day! Merry Christmas to all! Sun, 24 Dec 2017 10:08:45 EST Snowy Saturday And a white Christmas, too!

Had everyone (total of 11, including me) over for supper last night. We had to put tables together to seat that many, and no tablecloths to fit. Niece and I went to Joann's to see if they had any fabric that would work. We needed 72" width and didn't expect to be able to find it, but did. They had 108" width for quilting and we found a nice piece. Then spent hours making tablecloths. It looks great. I christened the tablecloth by scattering buttered carr... Sat, 23 Dec 2017 11:48:23 EST Add the calories, Not the carbs Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, whatever may suit each one. I hope the rest of this week and Monday are all in good cheer, and you enjoy the food, don't you think you earned a little bit of something, for being good all year? Well, I'm going to ruin that, I plan to stay LCHF even over the Holidays, because I worked HARD for most of my dieting life, not to return to that horrible beginning. Ok I may stack on some extra calories, but I will not partake in high carbs or sugars. Add the calor... Fri, 22 Dec 2017 11:00:32 EST Friday freedom! Yahoo! We get out early today, and for once, I AM LEAVING ON TIME. Since I'm the last one in, I typically stay a little later than everyone else, even on half days like this, just so I can put in 4 full hours like everyone else.

Today? I don't care.
253

I LOVE the layout of the holiday this year! It feels like there's so much extra time to get ready!

Have a great day all! Fri, 22 Dec 2017 10:00:53 EST Thursday - massage day! My masseuse has taken to making sure I'm awake when she leaves the room. That will probably be more necessary than usual this afternoon, since I've been awake since 03:30. Morning insomnia, but I did get in my exercise early, then had time for a long hot soak before going to work. Thu, 21 Dec 2017 12:06:01 EST Wednesday All the boys (my three brothers), plus two SILs, one niece and two step-nephews are all supposed to arrive tonight. One brother and niece will stay at my house. Two brothers and one SIL will stay at Mom's house. The other SIL and her two boys will stay at her dad's house. Planning is not easy! Mom, especially, wants to know how many people will be at her house for what meals. I'd also like to know, but not as concerned. SIL whose father lives near here says her family doesn't plan things like... Wed, 20 Dec 2017 11:15:40 EST Coming back again I tried going LCHF last Winter, I think it was? (and joined this team) and I liked the way it made me feel and I lost or maintained my weight (depending on my portion sizes, haha), but I did it more as an experiment... but after my mom died at the beginning of April I fell away and turned to comfort foods and "memory" foods big time. The result? Weight gain and a lack of energy (though there are other factors for the lack of energy...), but with some recent health issues I am back under or... Wed, 20 Dec 2017 07:11:53 EST Gonna get wet Tuesday Rain is good, we're behind in our water year so far.

Feeling hungry, but realized I have yet to drink my hot tea. Going to try that before I get something to eat. It usually helps. Tue, 19 Dec 2017 12:03:44 EST Help! We're having Christmas morning at Mom's house this year, and she has decided that we're going to have finger food - nut bread, coffee cake, and things like that. I want to take something protein-y instead of carby. I know I've seen recipes or heard about recipes, but of course I can't find them. I know I can make mini quiche in those tiny cupcake pans, or make quiche in a square cake pan and cut it into bite size pieces, and I'll probably do something like that.

What I'm really th... Mon, 18 Dec 2017 10:24:32 EST Monday This morning I'll take Mom grocery shopping. She usually ends up sitting out the last half of the shopping. It's too much for her. Actually, I usually do her shopping for her, but every now and then she wants to go. I'll do my own shopping another time. We'll both be shopping for Christmas and company and getting lots of stuff. Mon, 18 Dec 2017 10:17:13 EST Sunny Sunday! After having an inversion for a week, it's great to see actual sunshine today! Sun, 17 Dec 2017 11:05:50 EST Late Introduction Hello, everyone! I joined this group a little less than a year ago, but haven't been active on SP so I'm just doing my introduction. I continue in my lifelong quest to be a weight I'm comfortable with, and not be in such a psychologically unbalanced relationship with food, and it is a work in progress. A little over a month ago, I slowly started the process of going low carb / keto. My husband has always been a proponent of it, and has had good results in the past. Figured it was a good plan ... Sun, 17 Dec 2017 07:49:22 EST Sure it's Saturday? Couldn't sleep, so I got up. It's just barely Saturday here. At least I think it is.

Tomorrow will be 3 years of logging in every single day. Sat, 16 Dec 2017 02:26:58 EST Crazy cat Friday My nephew's cat is rampaging through the house. At least she doesn't usually do it in the middle of the night like most cats I've known.

Sitting here waiting for nephew to get back from work. I spoke to him about getting his parents to keep his daughter when he works weeknights, but the topic didn't come up until last night, so she's spent the night here. So I'm on the computer when I should be on the bike. Fri, 15 Dec 2017 10:19:11 EST Tickle-ish Thursday Laughter is what I need right now!! I'm not tickleish. I'm driving to MN to tickle 4 of my grandchildren. Yyiipppeee! Thu, 14 Dec 2017 11:19:26 EST My lab results I had my annual physical today and blood work. I'm really happy with these results which I attribute to my LC lifestyle. Wed, 13 Dec 2017 22:27:29 EST Wednesday, is it? Sunny and chilly today (not like some of you, in the 40's). Nothing on the schedule except work, and maybe a shopping trip. Saw a recipe for minestrone soup, want to give it a try. Wed, 13 Dec 2017 13:20:44 EST Today is Tuesday My nephew has to go. He finally got a job, which requires him to do the graveyard shift. Not in itself a problem, but he had his daughter last night. So she was here with me while he was working. First time. Shortly after 01:00, I wake up to loud crying (she's 5 years old). So I throw on my robe and hunt her up. She's on the toilet (on the other side of my bedroom wall) sobbing. I ask her what the problem is and she says she misses her dad. I suspect she woke and got scared when she c... Tue, 12 Dec 2017 10:03:12 EST Monday Part II of my Japanese final today. A 5-minute "interview" with the teacher. In Japanese, of course. I did a practice interview last week that went reasonably well. The written part of the final is tomorrow. And then I'll be done whining about the class.

Hope everyone is having a great day! Mon, 11 Dec 2017 09:53:14 EST Sunday And just 15 days until Christmas! Sun, 10 Dec 2017 13:46:40 EST Saturday Sandy (Mom's dog) is doing better. Not well, but better. She seems happy and not in pain, which is the important part. Well, that and not falling down because Mom can't pick her up.

I think I told you that my Japanese class is free at the local community college, because I'm over 60. Wed, 29 Nov 2017 10:00:12 EST Threatening Tuesday Not really, but the forecast is for rain this afternoon. Just in case, I parked up on the cement, as my usual parking space tends to collect a puddle when it rains. Tue, 28 Nov 2017 11:25:53 EST Swerve / Erythrytol reaction? Has anyone else had a negative reaction to erythrytol? I may have had too much at one time. I have used it a couple of times before, but this time I was sick for a couple of days. I am going to freeze the rest of my pumpkin cake. Maybe I will be brave enough to try it one more time, just to be sure. One positive. I was unable to eat for two days and finally broke through my plateau and lost a couple of pounds. It was a pretty miserable way to loose weight, though.
Mon, 27 Nov 2017 18:17:46 EST Monday Nov 27 Am I starting the Thread?? Hugs Mon, 27 Nov 2017 14:11:29 EST Oh hey, it's Monday again! Ugh, a five day week. Bleh. Last week was a so nice - off Monday, short day Wednesday, Turkey Day, then a verrrrry quiet Friday.

39

I wanna go home and play! Mon, 27 Nov 2017 12:42:06 EST Sunday Just awoke (really late for me---11 hours of sleep) and not yet ready to face a day. Gotta get back to Bed Bath and Beyond to return some leggings and do a little more shopping. Hope to get away alone, but DH is home and it feels like gummy glue. He seems to want to go everywhere. I guess I shouldn't complain, but I'm used to my own space and really feeling the need to be alone.
Dinner tonite with my eldest DD. They missed Thanksgiving with us. Looking forward to spending some ... Sun, 26 Nov 2017 11:48:41 EST Saturday for Singing! Now--when my body has been over-used I say 'it's singing'. When I'm in the presence of any family members--I say my Heart is Singing.

Today--I'm going to Sing that I have no responsibility or destination. Singing in the sun!

Hugs Sat, 25 Nov 2017 10:09:04 EST Friday! I guess everyone's working off their food comas today? 246
I'm definitely eating a little lighter for lunch today. The cafeteria had chicken noodle soup and all the noodles settled to the bottom so I got some lovely broth with onions - the only thing that would float in it! I went to the salad bar, got a bit of spinach, ripped it up and tossed it in the broth. YUM! (I'll admit it, I do sometimes treat our cafe like my personal pantry, lol!)

Hope everyone's having a... Fri, 24 Nov 2017 13:03:17 EST Happy Thanksgiving! Whether you're celebrating officially today or not, it's a great day to step back and be thankful for our blessings!

I'm just doing a little housekeeping and playing until it's time to head to my sister's for dinner. It's always a good day when our little family crew can get together face to face. This is the only season when we do it regularly - Thanksgiving, Perogi Day, then Christmas Eve. The rest of the year is pretty hit or miss! Thu, 23 Nov 2017 09:59:08 EST Wednesday We had Thanksgiving dinner here yesterday. It went pretty well. The best part was the sweet potatoes. Just baked whole, then passed butter and maple syrup at the table. I skipped the maple syrup. Just plain baked sweet potatoes with butter was plenty sweet for me. My brother and niece were eating low carb at one time, but aren't now, so I just skipped dessert rather than make something low carb. Mom brought pumpkin pie and cool whip for the carb eaters.

No plans for today, though ... Wed, 22 Nov 2017 11:03:53 EST Terrific Tuesday anyone? Did I miss the daily thread or am I actually starting it?

It's sloppy wet outside and I'm happy with that - it's not freezing!

I'm working on various things at my desk and then I have a web call in a few minutes. Off to the PT job later this afternoon.

Not a noteworthy kind of day. Tue, 21 Nov 2017 13:40:11 EST Need Weight loss friend looking for a weight loss friend. Some one to help me and I them on this weight loss journey Mon, 20 Nov 2017 23:14:40 EST Maudlin Monday Supper last night went reasonably well, except that my SIL didn't get there until about 6:15. I had made a point of telling them that supper was at 6:00 and to get there earlier. Grrr. Very rude. And hard on the cook, too. Her phone rang just as we finished supper, and she spent the next hour+ talking - practically yelling - on the phone. I felt like I was being clobbered with noise. The she went over to the couch and buried herself in her computer. I was most definitely NOT impressed with he... Mon, 20 Nov 2017 10:36:23 EST Sunday Bill, wife and daughter got in last night. They're staying at Mom's. Will have supper tonight and
Tuesday at my house, Monday night with wife's family, no idea what they'll be doing during the day. Usually stuff with her family. Have a pot roast in the slow cooker. I browned it first, and boy! does the house ever smell good! It's a a huge roast - 6 pounds. I had to cut off a bit in order for it to fit in the InstantPot. Added carrots and onions. Will cook some potatoes separately for th... Sun, 19 Nov 2017 10:47:14 EST Dr Bernstein to do a teleseminar I was introduced to low carb through Dr. Bernstein's book.

I noticed he's doing a teleseminar on Wed Nov 27 but you have to register ahead of time.

minar-call-information/

The signup is confusing -- it seems to be for a September or an October call. Hope it's just a website glitch.

ar-call-information/
Sat, 18 Nov 2017 22:52:10 EST Saturday and Sunshine! Supposed to be nice today. High of 45, and sunny. I can take that.

Brother Bill and his wife and daughter are driving down from Moscow, ID, today. From up near where Jeanne lives. They should have good weather for driving through the mountains.

Housekeeping and studying today. They'll stay with Mom and will have supper at her house tonight. Supper at my house tomorrow and Tuesday. I assume I'll see them other than the evenings they're eating here, but you never know. ... Sat, 18 Nov 2017 09:49:51 EST Net Carb nutrient tracker I added the net carb nutrient to my tracker so my Daily Nutrition Report would show up rather than total carbs.
But I've found that it wasn't merely a matter of calculating total carbs minus fiber. For most days it is total carbs minus fiber. Occasionally it isn't (haven't figured out a pattern yet).

It's got me wondering about total carb intake for the day. I've always subtracted out the fiber from the total carbs. Am I doing it wrong? Perhaps there's a software glitch... Sat, 18 Nov 2017 08:52:00 EST Frosty Friday! It's snowing! Great big, beautiful, fluffy flakes. Nice. Especially since it isn't supposed to last very long. Though last year's first big snowfall wasn't supposed to stick around very long, and it was months before it finally melted.

Haircut this morning, mandatory tutoring session this afternoon followed by a study session this evening.

Have a great day! Fri, 17 Nov 2017 09:24:34 EST I Think it's Thursday In fact, I KNOW it is, cause I just finished my Pittsburgh Salad, and they only serve those on Thursday.

So I guess everyone slept in today?

102

Speaking of sleeping, I only woke up once all last night. Adding the thyroid supplement back to my routine is making a difference. I had let it go for awhile cause I wasn't sure that it was worth taking the extra pills. Turns out it was.

I'm adding another experiment tomorrow. I just went back ... Thu, 16 Nov 2017 16:02:23 EST Vegetable Marrow? I found a couple of recipes for Vegetable Marrow Chips, which look like they're supposed to be sort of like potato chips. I'm not entirely sure what vegetable marrow is. It's a really overgrown zucchini, isn't it? So overgrown and old that it turns into a keepable winter squash? I have one in the garage that I picked a month or two ago and then forgot about, and it seems to still be ok. I think I'll try making chips out it.

Here are the two recipes.

VEGETABLE MARROW A L... Wed, 15 Nov 2017 11:43:33 EST Wide Awake Wednesday! How about it, Woubbie? Are you wide awake after actually sleeping through the night now? Or at least coming closer? I'm feeling pretty wide awake this morning myself.

I checked the grocery ads this morning and there's really nothing that's a good enough price that I'd make a special trip to get anything. Sad, isn't it? Of course, I'm still thinking of good prices a decade or so ago, or at least a few years ago, and today's prices just don't match up. Sigh. Fortunately, I don't need...
