Then just studying and walking Jewel later. I like the graduation smiley, Woubbie - that's what it will feel like when I'm done! Sun, 30 Aug 2015 10:26:37 EST Saturday Welcome to the weekend! I have lots planned today: DH and I are going to hear a talk about essential oils (anyone use these?), then I need to do household tasks and study for my next exam. Right now I'm watching my grown up equivalent of Saturday cartoons - Lucky Dog. Love that show for some reason. Oh - probably because it's about dogs, duh. Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:12:49 EST Saturday Have a great day! Sat, 29 Aug 2015 10:12:14 EST Friday! Good morning, all!

I have an administrative day here for a change (yay!) so I'm in a pretty good mood. Hoping the day goes fast, I can't wait to get home and do some more work on my bedroom remodel. Things are finally starting to shape up. It's actually time to shop for curtains! Woohoo!

I'm hoping the weather holds for Sunday. My sister wants to go to the Renaissance Festival, and this would be an ideal weekend otherwise. After Sunday it can rain all it wants until nex... Fri, 28 Aug 2015 11:29:28 EST Thursday 8/27 Hi All, day 4 and I woke up extremely hungry. I have been surrounded by temptations and I'm not caving in. I am debating with myself about whether I should allow cheat days, when I should start if I choose to or If I should just keep on truckin until I reach a goal and then cheat..? I know it will make me feel like crap because the carbs will shock the system, so thats the good thing.
Thoughts? Experiences? Suggestions? All welcome.. Thu, 27 Aug 2015 10:21:40 EST Wednesday Just a quick visit here. Remember that $265.56 gas bill I got? For eleven days of service, only two of which I was actually living here? Well, turns out there was a type on their end. The correct bill is $17.30, including $14 for hooking up the service. Much, much better. Wed, 26 Aug 2015 15:36:17 EST Tuesday Sitting here at 01:30 eating a pulled pork sandwich. Wishing I was three hours asleep. Going home shortly, but probably won't sleep until 2. With any luck I'll be able to get a solid 6 hours sleep. Tue, 25 Aug 2015 04:36:27 EST Help I am new to the message boards here and am wanting to start a low carb diet plan. Not sure if this is where to ask questions but wondering if there is a guideline out there for breaking down how many proteins, fats, carbs etc on a new low carb diet? Any help would be great. Mon, 24 Aug 2015 15:13:45 EST Hi all, happy Monday! I'm ready for change. I'm not buying new clothes.I started today trying to eat healthy with chicken, water, lemon, fresh fruit because I feel bloated. For lunch I plan on making a grilled chicken and lettuce salad with cheese and a balsamic dressing in our cafeteria. high fat and protein always fill me up, I just need to plan ahead and do this. I'm getting too old to be this thick. Atkins worked for me years ago, I'm altering it a bit and putting my best foot forward. Mon, 24 Aug 2015 10:56:08 EST Monday! I was right - I am sore today! Mostly around my chest for some reason, and a bit on arms. I'll go ahead and mow today (still too windy to spray) and see if that loosens things up a bit. Still lots more weedeating to do!

So, this morning it's some yard work and lots of phone calls and business type stuff, then bridge this afternoon. And there's still unpacking to do, and lots of putting things away!

It's supposed to get up to 96 today, so I need to get anything outside do... Mon, 24 Aug 2015 10:34:52 EST Stupid simple keto Hey all,

I'm on day 2 of trying out a free app that I'm using on my iPad and which tracks LCHF. Mon, 24 Aug 2015 02:37:52 EST Sunday Good morning, all!

No church for me today. I'm hoping for a nice relaxing one. The weather is sunny or mostly sunny for the day, with a high of 86. Kyle must be loving these temps for the Ren Fest!

Have a great day! Sun, 23 Aug 2015 09:36:28 EST Saturday It's supposed to be nice and cool today. A good day for getting things done outside. Too windy too spray, though, which is mostly what needs to be done. I did get some lettuce and chard planted in a couple of those clear plastic boxes that strawberries come in. I'll transplant it to the lasagna bed when they get bigger. I also spent about 20 minutes cleaning the patio doors, and there are still streaks. Someone obviously had dogs here. Lots of doggy nose prints on the glass.

Noth... One pair of jeans just needs to be shortened (and they're zip up jeans, not elastic waist!) and a pair of shorts fits fine. In fact, I'm wearing them now.

That's the excitement for the day around here. As in Boise, where Roberta is, lots of smoke. Technically we're both in the Treasure Valley, and the whole Treasure Valley is un... Fri, 21 Aug 2015 09:33:55 EST Thursday - FRIDAY EVE!!! Woo! Anyways - Rained HARD here on Wednesday so, of course, we had a TON of MVCs and every single one of them had broken femurs. We couldn't fly out so we had 4 EMS on transport which meant we had to borrow EMS from neighboring counties to get everyone transported. VERY busy beginning of the night but it has died down. Now only have 4 patients in the ER and none are my type so I get a break! Yay! At least for a couple hours before I have to go stick everyone for ABGs lol.

So I fou... Thu, 20 Aug 2015 03:39:54 EST Functional Medicine
I have been visiting a Wellness Center for about 6 months now. While I appreciate that the doctor takes my insurance and is ordering some in depth testing (some paid for by insurance and some by me), I am finding that they are requiring me to pay for "other services" in order to have the opportunity to see the doctor.

For example, the doc is working with me on my gut health. After extensive blood work, she had me do the Whole 30 and take certain supplements. I had to pay... Wed, 19 Aug 2015 19:41:20 EST Wednesday - Or Friday Eve Eve I got a really good night's sleep last night, which I haven't been doing lately. Sure feels good this morning! I got up about 7:15, puttered around getting dressed and so forth, and then spent about an hour and a half unpacking and putting stuff away. Half an hour on the computer and then I'll go finish off my lasagna bed and maybe plant some chard and lettuce, and then do an hour or so of weeding out front. Looks like the weed spray is working out back. Errands to run this afternoon and then... Wed, 19 Aug 2015 11:11:49 EST Periomenopausal and Hypothyrodism I was diagnosed 2 years ago with hypothyroidism (and I turned 50 this year). I went from a size 2/4 to an 8/10 over 2 years even with thyroid medication.I have tried all these periomenopausal/thyroid diets, etc. and the weight just never budged.

My blood pressure is borderline so I started the DASH diet for hypertension a couple of months ago. I started gaining even more weight. I was eating green smoothies with berries, and having non-fat greek yogurt, oatmeal, etc. My blood press... Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:43:11 EST Tuesday Mostly staying home waiting for people to come by and do things. The final building inspection is supposed to be this morning. Turns out I'm not supposed to be living here until he signs off and I get an occupancy permit. Oops. And the furnace guy is supposed to be delivering the vent covers. And this afternoon I get the ducts cleaned. They're filthy! I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to stay here while they're cleaning the ducts. It will take about four hours. I may leave for a bit while the... Tue, 18 Aug 2015 12:42:41 EST Monday it tis Hi everyone! Not much going on here except to work on getting rid of a bunch of stuff in my storage locker because we are officially getting rid of it in a couple weeks since we built a shed at our house. I have to condense a LOT down. I am a pack rat. Plus I have a bunch of keepsakes from various deceased family members that I just can't bring myself to get rid of. Oh and about 2000 books lol. Maybe more. Can't remember exactly how many!

Back to my chicken, cheese, and salsa. Did ... Mon, 17 Aug 2015 02:09:15 EST Sunday Another smoky day. Haven't checked the news to see where the local fires are, but the cloudless sky is gray, not blue. I'm not sure whether I'm catching a cold (which wouldn't really be surprising - I frequently get sick when something I've been working on is finished and the adrenaline bottoms out) or if it's the smoke. I hope it's the smoke. I still have lots to do.

I got up about 5:30 this morning, after spending a long time awake. Played on the computer for a while then went ba... The curtain rod was installed (screwed in, not a tension rod) so high that the bottom of the curtain clears the bottom of the door by about 2". Fortunately I got two sets of hooks so I can double them up, and the door is narrower than most so I can fold the ends back and may be able to triple them up. That might work.

Anyway, I'm in, ... Sat, 15 Aug 2015 18:46:55 EST Saturday 08/15 It's my anniversary, but we're not celebrating today, because we're celebrating my mom's 90th birthday (which is actually on Tuesday). Woohoo! Don't know why I'm so excited that it's Friday but woke up feeling really happy.

Been wobbling with eating for weeks now. And my weight went up a few lbs. interestingly, I adjusted my diet by introducing 2 slices of toast max per day, along with about a half cup of berries. But I'm finding that I have more energy this week and m... Fri, 14 Aug 2015 01:49:21 EST Thursday, AKA Friday Eve Happy Thursday, all!

I came to work with the attitude that I was on top of things and I wouldn't let any "new business" bother me. Then I opened Outlook and got email-bombed. I'm still not letting it bother me, remarkably. Our warehouse manager surprised the heck out of me by going "OK, thanks for letting me know."
<... Thu, 13 Aug 2015 10:16:12 EST Wednesday - the middle of the week And I'm still at Mom's. Maybe I'll get to my own house this week!

Gary called late yesterday and said that the electrical inspector is coming this morning at 9 and I need to be there to let him in. Gary is in Sun Valley and won't be back to Twin for four or five days. I'm not going to wait that long for him to finish up around here, so will probably move in as soon as I get the locks rekeyed. I'll stop at Lowe's or Home Depot for a kit and some new keys and see if I can do them all... Tue, 11 Aug 2015 10:05:28 EST Monday the 10th I would make a pleasant comment about work today, but I don't want to jinx myself!

I had an interesting insight about my anxiety yesterday. I seem to have trained myself to hold onto the feeling of anxiousness even after the situation stops warranting it. Knowledge is power! Mon, 10 Aug 2015 12:01:08 EST Sunday Gary was supposed to be done inside on Friday. I went over yesterday and he was still working. So I went over this morning. I sure hope he doesn't think he's done inside! There are no towel bars or TP holder in either bathroom. No closet doors in the two spare bedrooms. And the mirror in the master bathroom is held up with masking tape.

I stopped at Winco on my way and picked up some cleaning supplies and toiletries. I took Katie to the airport and drank a can of diet Coke on the way home. The kind that has caffeine. I don't usually do caffeine and I'm still a bit wired. I'll go to bed, though, as soon as I finish up here, and hope for the best. I may end up sleeping in, though I really should go over and water. I can only water Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and only before 10 am or after 5 pm, so I hate to miss an opportunity. <B... Sat, 8 Aug 2015 02:31:02 EST Can I get a woohoo for Friday?! Besides being truly sick of eggs, I very badly need a good replacement for broccoli and spinach. I love both of those veggies, but they DO NOT love me. I can not eat broccoli of any kind or any preparation. Raw spinach or runny egg yolks either. Even sometimes fresh avocado. Trust me, it is very inconvenient and makes me sad because I like all those foods.
So to clarify: No raw or cooked broccoli, no raw spinach, ... The house is coming along. The carpet is in and Gary started laying the vinyl. I've got a ginormous pile of stuff in the garage that I need to list and value for donation purposes and then load it in my car. Lots of clothes and stuff that I simply need to let go to better homes.

Basically my goal is to stay home all day and take care of me.... Sat, 25 Jul 2015 12:06:23 EST Happy Friday! Good morning, all!

My desk and inbox are actually approaching the empty state!! Makes me wonder what awful new responsibilities are about to slam down on my head, lol!

Going out to dinner with a friend or two tonight. Should be a fun evening! Have a great day, everyone! Fri, 24 Jul 2015 10:13:07 EST Help I am looking for suggestions in ways to help my 18 year old daughter. She is still active but over the years she continues to gain weight because all that she wants to eat is CARBS! She lives on junk food. She will not eat any vegetables except a salad and then she doesn't want any other vegetables in it. Just pretty much the lettuce and ranch dressing and croutons of course! She gets depressed because she continues to gain and she seems to always be hungry. I was hoping someone could s... Thu, 23 Jul 2015 17:18:46 EST Thursday anyone? Where is everyone? Maybe the Thursday thread is posted somewhere else.

Just back from a morning in ABQ and ready for a quiet afternoon.

Enjoy your day all! Thu, 23 Jul 2015 15:20:28 EST Wednesday Hi, am I the first to post this day? Well I just wanted to say that yay, I was down a pound this morning. Not a lot but at least maybe the train is moving 30

I did lessen my hwc today. I sort of have to lessen my coffee to be able to do that. So my big travel mug that I make every moring, usually has 2 heaping tsp of instant Folgers and then I add hwc to the color I like. I measured it the other day and it was 5 or 6 T. So today I just did one heaping tsp of coffee, le... Wed, 22 Jul 2015 15:15:33 EST Tuesday We got about 2/3 of an inch of rain last night, but it held off long enough that we got one side of the sign up and finished! YAY! Still have to finish painting the other side, but should finish up by the weekend. YAY again! I'll post a picture when it is finished.

Today is dog training and I am looking forward to that. Tonight is a council meeting and I am going to watch the 'fireworks'--always something. Not really looking forward to that, but like to stay informed. You'd think t... Tue, 21 Jul 2015 13:10:43 EST Has anyone had fidgety legs in bed? OMG it's so weird. I am well into purple on my ketostix lately and I've noticed that each night when I go to bed my legs just won't stop fidgeting! Has anyone else experienced this and is there any way to get rid? Mon, 20 Jul 2015 17:58:16 EST Back at Sparkpeople and this team I am back, I was LIVINMYDREAMS before, Faith. I have been away and on some teams through facebook. I have continued with low carb, etc. but have had a really hard time staying on track. Well I have really re-committed and am determined to get back down. I had lost 90 lbs and then gained 40 back.

I feel that tracking everything, right now may be helpful for me. I think I have carb creeping in more than I realize and I really feel that calories may be an issue for me and that I am p... Mon, 20 Jul 2015 15:54:09 EST New to Group but not to LCHF I'm so glad I found this group!

I've been doing LCHF successfully since February; however, I've struggled sticking to it since the end of May for a variety of reasons. I'm working to really get back to it since in that 3 months I dropped just shy of 25 pounds. I'm now hovering around 20 pounds lost and have at least another 30 to go to meet my health goals.

In addition to weight loss, I'm working to correct a moderate diastasis recti caused by weight gain through 4 compl... Mon, 20 Jul 2015 15:16:51 EST Monday Not being very productive at work, but that has to change right meow.

239

Off I go then! More work!

Happy Monday, all! Mon, 20 Jul 2015 12:19:43 EST I've been absent for a while We did some traveling in June and then we had puppies, to be specific, 7 whippet puppies that are now 8 days old. Mom and puppies are doing well but we had our hands full with all kinds of projects, including fencing in more of our yard for when the little guys are ready to explore the world. If anyone wants to take a look, they are all on our website, listed on the bottom of my posts.
Until I'm less busy (when all these puppies have found good homes in about 3 months) I will still be re... Sun, 19 Jul 2015 16:59:25 EST Sunday Hi team! Hope you all are having an ideal kind of Sunday whatever that is for you. I got groceries at Trader Joe's - first trip there since I broke my ankle March 25th! It's my preferred place to get groceries, but means a bit more driving, walking, and lifting - I am definitely up for it now.

Today I am doing some light prep cooking, laundry, and then I have a club meeting this afternoon. It's going to be VERY hot today, so I'm planning on coming home as soon as possible and g... Sun, 19 Jul 2015 13:41:15 EST Health benefits of a LCHF lifestyle As I prepare to fully launch into this new lifestyle I wanted to get some personal experience advice from the members of this team (that I am really enjoying, by the way). I have slowly been eliminating processed foods from my diet and while I am eating a good bit more fruit (and therefore carbs) it is the process that is working for me. I tried doing a 50g NC a day without even transitioning and I about lost it. Only thing that saved me was my fruit. So, I am switching from sweets to fruit a... Sun, 19 Jul 2015 06:50:41 EST Saturday - and the party's still going strong! A good day today. Walked the dog this morning, then went to my house to water and then to the Farmers Market. Squeaky cheese, a huge head of cabbage and some Zuke Dog Bread. Which, presumably, was made with zucchini and for dogs but did not include dogs. (See Woubbie's post yesterday re loving cats.) Came home and trimmed the apple tree (a family project) and scheduled a visit from my niece the first week of next month. I hope I'm in my new house by then. I warned her that I would have just m... Sat, 18 Jul 2015 14:11:45 EST Friday! Let's get this party started! Woohoo! After several truncated weeks (holidays and days off), working 5 days in a row seemed to last FORRRREVVVER. I hope nothing blows up on my desk today. I could use a productive, low stress workday for a change!

Happy Friday, all! Fri, 17 Jul 2015 08:40:21 EST Thursday - The week's going downhill! Have you ever noticed how "downhill" has two diametrically opposed meanings? It can either mean it's getting better and easier (as in when you're riding your bike and you reach the top of the hill and start down the other side) or it can mean that things are falling apart. Take your pick. I'm going with the first meaning, myself.

Spent all morning at the house, Home Depot and Lowe's. After many many attempts to find a wall color I like (including blending two colors, taking a color... Thu, 16 Jul 2015 14:05:15 EST Wednesday I'm starting the thread again? And it's almost noon here in the west?!

I'm glad the day's half over. It's been busy so far. I woke up early and did my knee exercises for the first time in several days, then walked the dog and cleaned up the piles in the back yard. Went over to the house so I'd be there when the washer and dryer and microwave were delivered. There's a very small ornamental type area in the front of the house that I weeded, then did some weeding along the side of the... Wed, 15 Jul 2015 13:31:39 EST Just Starting... Hi, I'm just starting Atkins, based on my doctor's recommendation. I'm not terribly familiar with it, but looking forward to learning about it. I know it's going to be a change for me, because I LOVE carbs, but I'm probably better off cutting them out completely (almost) as opposed to having them in moderation, which has not worked very well for me.

Would love any help anyone has to offer as to recipes or any other advice.

Donna

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 09:26:18 EST Induction slump Well I'm on to week two and feeling really good about my progress. I'm starting to see the scale move and my clothes are already fitting differently which is really helping to keep me motivated. I am kind of in a food slump though. I have been eating foods that all just feel like the same thing over and over. Breakfast is usually some sort of egg dish. This last week was omelets and scramble bowls with bacon or sausage. Lunch is usually a salad or leftovers from dinner, and dinner has pretty ... Tue, 14 Jul 2015 18:54:41 EST Tuesday I wrote up a post about my day and, on reading it, found it was rather a downer. It's been that kind of a day - lots of little annoyances but nothing that couldn't be - and wasn't - easily resolved. Don't you hate that kind of day? There are times I think I'd rather have something big happen instead of a bunch of petty things! I do know better, of course, but petty little things can sure be annoying.

However, it's a good day, we got some much needed rain (not much, but every little... Tue, 14 Jul 2015 13:46:15 EST Monday Happy Monday, y'all! I'm puttering around home this morning tying up some loose ends from yesterday and psyching myself up to go to work. New Manager will be back in the office this week, so efficiency will be automatically compromised.

334

Other than that, I plan on coming home after about 5 hours, elevating and icing my ankle, and then heading off to the range to corral that guy into finishing up something from last fiscal year! He's SO easy to work w... Mon, 13 Jul 2015 11:31:42 EST Communicating with a teenager My brother is divorced. One daughter lives with him in Idaho, the other daughter lives with her mother in Wisconsin. I don't know what has happened (and apparently neither does her mother, my brother or his wife) but for some reason Libby has suddenly disowned Bill. She absolutely refuses to have anything to do with him. Libby (who will be 13 in September) and Katie (who will be 16 in September) are also fighting. New SIL says that there have been vicious emails among the two girls and betwee... Sun, 12 Jul 2015 19:45:25 EST Help! I think I need a pep talk! I think I've managed to get myself all tied in knots re LCHF. I was with a colleague on Friday who told me he was low carbing for a holiday and lost a stone in a few weeks. But his low carbing involved low fat too. Mostly lean meats and salads etc.

I've gotten all nervous since, thinking that perhaps I'm fooling myself into thinking high fat is good. I know I'm over eating lately (stress), and haven't lost any weight in past few weeks. As of today I've resorted to high carb. I thi... Sun, 12 Jul 2015 14:05:20 EST Sunday I'm up and moving - sort of. I have a grocery list ready and am going to go get the week's groceries shortly. I have to drop some stuff off for my mom, but after that I plan on puttering at home.

I'm doing another round of decluttering - and I think the bedroom is pretty close to done. Just dresser drawers and the closet left. Maybe that should be my only goal for today - just finish the bedroom. Oh and laundry. The inevitable, endless laundry!

Hoping for some ... Sun, 12 Jul 2015 11:23:44 EST Saturday Waiting for our realtor to stop by this morning after the house drama yesterday. God really worked that out for our good in an amazing way. Then DH and I are off to a wedding out of town today, about an hour and half away. DH is doing the photos, the groom is a friend of his. Also picking up my new eyeglasses from my optometrist brother in law. I ordered the lenses with a coating that blocks the blue light emitted from electronic devices which apparently not only messes with your sleep cycle,... Sat, 11 Jul 2015 10:01:02 EST Friday There's not a lot of grass in my yard, but the weeds are nice and thick and lush and green. I figured it was ok for now. Then I read in the paper that they had to cancel most of the community garden plots because of bindweed, which is a really noxious weed that is a member of the morning glory family and looks like a morning glory. Uh oh! My back yard is solid bindweed! You can get rid of it by multiple applications of something like Roundup, over a multiple year period. One application isn't... Fri, 10 Jul 2015 09:35:26 EST Greetings My name is Heather. I work as a Respiratory Therapist on night shift. I need to lose a lot of weight because I want to be healthier and feel better. I have been trying to lose weight since I was in High School and did for a while but this year I was diagnosed with PCOS. Turns out that PCOS is the cause of my weight gain since 2007. It is time to do something about it! I weigh 285 and want to eventually be about 140 - a healthy weight for me according to the charts. I would be happy at 180 if ... Fri, 10 Jul 2015 04:03:13 EST Thursday It's Thursday. Actually my Friday since I am taking tomorrow off. I'm not feeling so great, I think I may have a touch of the stomach flu. I have no plans for the day off, I just need to take some vacation days, so I'm glad I'll have time to rest.

I have no desire to eat, so just had some coffee with coconut oil.

Nothing too exciting going on. It's super cold outside right now and I think it's sprinkling in some parts of Northern Cal. Not enough to take care of a d... Thu, 9 Jul 2015 15:51:30 EST Munchies! Omg... I have got the craziest munchies this evening. No matter what I do I can't get rid of them. I tried having cream with sweetner but that didn't work. I also had smoked sausage, but that didn't work. Also tried some Brazil nuts, didn't help. I'm tempted to go to bed just to avoid pigging out on crap.

I used to get these insatiable munchies before low carb and I'd eat icecream and chocolate. I feel like I'm hungry but I know I'm not!

Wed, 8 Jul 2015 16:32:09 EST Wednesday The day is off to a good start. I took the dog for a walk, then came home and picked up about a bushel or so of apples. I need to reschedule the delivery of my stove, and send off the patient history form so I can get an appointment to see a doctor. Then this afternoon I'll take my Congolese family to the store again. We went on Wednesday, but didn't have enough time. As far as I know, neither they nor I have obligations before or after, so we should have plenty of time today. Should even hav... Wed, 8 Jul 2015 11:49:16 EST What nutrient targets do you set in tracker? Do you keep the nutrient tracker for fats, carbs, proteins, etc. at what Spark People sets them, or do you use different numbers, since you are trying to eat low carb? Any suggestions as to what are good target numbers? Tue, 7 Jul 2015 21:02:38 EST Sugar cravings I currently feel like I want to land face first into a vat of anything that contains sugar. How to you deal with sugar cravings? This is the first time I have felt this way in 9 weeks. I would love some help 30

Alexis x Tue, 7 Jul 2015 11:44:56 EST Tuesday... Oh what a day! I woke up late -
Got up, made my bed, took my shower and washed my hair, dressed to the shoes, then fixed breakfast. Afterwards I rolled my hair (leave it up long enough for it to be puffy. :) Then did my makeup, grabbed my TOPS bag and purse and ran out of the house.

I pulled my car out of the driveway - discovered I had left my reading glasses in the bedroom, parked the car in the driveway and ran in and got my glasses. Coming back to the car, my foot shifted in the g... Tue, 7 Jul 2015 08:35:25 EST Monday Got up a bit late today, but I did take the dog for a walk and picked up close to half a bushel or so of windfall apples. Too bad they're nowhere near ripe. Not even ripe enough to give to the neighbor to make applesauce with lots of apples. But they sure do make a mess if they're left on the ground to rot. Mom and I are going to Aldi in a little bit, and then I need to get out and look at vanities for my bathrooms. Sure hope I can find something.

For our Let's Get Back to Our Exer... Sun, 5 Jul 2015 08:29:45 EST Happy July 4th I'm up and about - bed is made and I'm getting ready to shine my sink. :) But first a cup of coffee.

I noticed that yesterday I put the day's post in the wrong place. Sorry! I'm still getting accustomed to Spark... it's a little different from when I was on here before... or else my memory is failing. That could be it too.

I didn't sleep well last night. I went to bed at 11 pm, woke up at 1:00 and got on Facebook after I couldn't sleep. Then I went back to bed ... Sat, 4 Jul 2015 08:40:27 EST Funky Friday Good morning! I'm up - I could have slept in this morning but DH got me up... also got our son up and he had the day off too. Oh well... I have a to-do list so I'll get started on it earlier. I don't have many days off so I have to play catch-up - especially since DH is retired and I expect him to take certain responsibilities here that he doesn't. So I go on strike and refuse to do things - and then they pile up and bite me in the butt. I should just go ahead and do them instead of havi... Fri, 3 Jul 2015 07:39:53 EST My not so short autobiography, lol Hello, I am new to this group and thought I'd just do a quick introduction. I am 32, mom of four boys (three of my own and one step). I am married to a wonderfully supportive man who is completely on board with my plans for a better lifestyle. I live in Montana and work full time.

I have always had an unhealthy relationship with food that has often consumed my energy. When I was a teenager I struggled with anorexia and was painfully thin. I was very controlling with my food and wou... Thu, 2 Jul 2015 12:50:11 EST Thursday ~ Chit Chat Good morning team :)
I woke up this morning feeling energized. Usually I'm dragging my butt out of bed and stumbling through to the coffee pot, but this morning I felt distinctively 'lighter' on my feet..

Went walking with my doggies out early this morning. As far as exercise goes, this is more of a 'stretching' warm up for me. I'm not walking very's more of a casual, continuous stroll, but it sure does feel good to stretch out the muscles in my legs, especially as th... Wed, 1 Jul 2015 14:39:12 EST Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow! There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which we should shield ourselves from fear and apprehension. One of them is yesterday, with all of it's mistakes, it's faults and blunders, it's aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. Nothing can be done to bring back yesterday. We can't change a single act or erase a single word we said.

The other day is tomorrow, with it's possible adversities, it's burdens, and it's promises. Ye... Wed, 1 Jul 2015 09:22:37 EST What goes nice in tea or coffee? Sorry, but I will never give up my tea and coffee. It just makes the world go round for me. I was LOVING the idea of adding cream to my coffee until I started overdoing it and finishing a 300ml pot every 2-3 days. It seems I just can't be trusted with cream + moderation lol.

So, I've switched to almond milk or coconut milk (the Alprokind, not the curry kind). Almond milk is much lower carb, but coconut tastes amazing! But I like them both.

Just wondering what everyone e... A big hello to all of the lovely members of this group 213

I thought that I had introduced myself, but I hadn't (brain fog). Mon, 29 Jun 2015 11:56:36 EST Monday Dad rat it, that no good oldest brother of mine caught a cold on the plane coming out here and gave it to me. I felt fine yesterday morning and right up to taking a nap. Woke up with a sore throat and congestion.

I need to make some phone calls about the house, and maybe go look at vanities and such. Other than that I have absolutely nothing planned for today. I'm taking it really easy.

Hope you all have a great day! Mon, 29 Jun 2015 10:26:29 EST Sunday Good morning! I was AWOL yesterday, spending a good part of the day at PennDOT with the boys. Kyle finally passed his permit test, got his photo ID, and his learner's permit. Max's permit had expired (he hadn't taken the driving test within the one year limit), so he renewed the permit and just has to schedule his drivers test.

So, I got up at 9, played a bit, cleaned a bit, got showered, spent 3 hours doing PennDOT things, had dinner with the boys, drove them home, played for abo... Sun, 28 Jun 2015 11:47:44 EST Newbie Hello all, This is my first time 2 this team. I've actually been here on sparkspeople 2x's now & it's been so long I couldn't remember my log in info, LOL! I just made a new one. I hope this time 2 B the BEST! I've been low carbing for 7 days now with NO CHEATING! I have struggled though, LET ME TELL YA! I'm hoping 2 start 2 add exercise now that I have a foundation down with my eating. Sat, 27 Jun 2015 23:57:10 EST Saturday Yesterday was a three stooges/marx brothers kind of day. I painted the boards for the base of the motel sign I am doing with primer. Sat down to wait for them to dry and got involved in my Kindle. Looked up at one point and about died. One of the dogs had stepped in the paint pan (and she really had to work at getting to the paint because it was between two paint cans and under a chair) and tracked paw prints throughout the house) and because I was screeching like a mad woman, Caly was having... Sat, 27 Jun 2015 10:00:19 EST Friday I was planning on posting on yesterday's thread, but when I saw that Woubbie said there wasn't one, I didn't.

Had lunch yesterday at a restaurant that's right on the rim of the Snake River Canyon. It's beautiful! So I took my brothers out for a drink at the same place. They were amazed - I don't drink and I don't go out drinking! However, we went and sat out on the patio and looked at the canyon and the river way down at the bottom and the boys had fancy drinks and I had club soda... Fri, 26 Jun 2015 11:45:03 EST New to group, starting over with SP Hello all,
I have been trying out Carb Cycling to get myself off of the food frenzy love/hate relationship.
This week Doc told me to try something like Atkins and go Low Carb, Low Fat, No potatoes, No pasta, No bread.
I am a bread-a-holic, one piece and I cannot stop.
Since I cook for others in the household who do not need to diet, I want to find some ways to make my tiny list of foods I can eat, more appealing and filling for me.
Right now I have allergic reaction... Now that I am following their low carb plan, I am feeling full and satisfied and losing weight.
I am joining this team to get new ideas, recipes, etc.
I live in Georgia and am a high school art teacher. Thu, 25 Jun 2015 09:58:26 EST Wednesday - Hump Day! Hi team, where are you??

I'm at work.

Nothing stellar, noteworthy, or even interesting to report.

334 Wed, 24 Jun 2015 14:42:11 EST Tuesday "National 'Let It Go Day'" I like that! There is so much that I need to let go of. I know people always tell me "you should be mad at this or that" or "you should do...." It generally bites me in the rear when I go after something that really wasn't bothering me, so I'm learning to listen to my inner voice. If there is something that is getting my passion up, then I will fight or pursue it. If not, then I need to have peace with my decision to Let it Go! Tue, 23 Jun 2015 12:17:06 EST low carb dinner couldn't find a 'low carb dinner' thread, so I hope it is okay to start one.

nothing 'fancy' tonight....

Steak & veggies...

6 oz beef round tip steak (this is the raw weight)
1 cup of baby Broccoli & Cauliflower
6 brussel Sprouts
3 tbsp butter
salt & pepper to taste

(I cook the steak in butter, at a high temperature...searing each side so it remain juicy & tender and also add butter to my veggies)
I'll probably toss in red ... Mon, 22 Jun 2015 10:39:15 EST Just another Manic Monday! I have a gajillion things on my to-do list today, so I'd better get to it. Where oh where did the weekend go?!?!?! Mon, 22 Jun 2015 09:26:29 EST Sunday - It's Summer! It started at 12:38 pm EDT. Do you feel how much hotter it is already? Though, from reading your posts yesterday, summer started early for most of us.

Not much planned for today. My realtor and his wife are coming down from Boise (about 2 hours northwest of here) to celebrate Father's Day with his father and wants to show my house to his wife - both "before" and "after". (Sorry, Naypooie, but I don't have a camera that will take good enough pictures that you can see the mess it was... Hope you're all enjoying this last full day of spring! Sure seems to me like it's been summer for a couple of weeks now.

Nothing planned for today. I'll probably go to the animal shelter, but that's about it. Sat, 20 Jun 2015 11:45:14 EST Friday Good morning!

I've made a momentous decision and have decided to actively look for another position within the company. You've heard me complain for years now about various things, and I was willing to put up with them for a long time, but things seemed to have reached that critical mass where it only takes one more thing to push you into action. Well, yesterday my manager sent an email out for all of us to update our Travel Profiles, which can only mean one thing. A trip to Memphi... Fri, 19 Jun 2015 10:27:07 EST Low carbing it for the long term Hi everyone,

Haven't been on sparks too long. I have done low carb before and did well, my challenge is to stay on low carb. When I go off the plan, I blow up pretty quickly and usually gain most of it back. I'm not doing Atkins, more of a low carb/high fat freestyle.

I joined this group to get tips and maybe even give some. 381 Thu, 18 Jun 2015 22:06:35 EST Thursday Hi all, the sun just came out here, and it's going to be a beautiful day. I'm working from home in order to handle a bank conference call this morning, and then I'll call the only guy left at work in the office to come pick me up. :) New Manager is babysitting Oregon staff (a case of the blind leading the blind) and Admin texted me that she coughed all night and is going to the walk-in clinic instead of work. I will have a quiet morning and a quiet day once I get to work!

The an... Thu, 18 Jun 2015 11:43:21 EST Which low carb diet or method works best for you? I've been on Atkins Phase 1 (20 net carbs per day) for around 8 weeks now. I've lost a total of 11 lbs, and I'm noticing that I haven't really been losing much the past 2-3 weeks. There are probably a number of reasons for this.

Firstly I've started putting whole milk in my coffee instead of cream, simply because it's easier to get hold of milk and the bottle is bigger so lasts longer. I felt like I was always out shopping for cream otherwise.

I've decided that I ... Thu, 18 Jun 2015 08:32:57 EST Wednesday - Eat Your Vegetables Day! As all days should be. I can hardly wait til the u-pick place has beans and zucchini and tomatoes and eggplant and cucumbers and good things like that.

Got up early so I could take the dog for a walk in the alley before the garbage men come. Now they'll probably be late getting here. It was delightful out, though. Nice and cool.

Today Mom and I go to Winco for a big shopping. When she's on her own she goes about once a month, but picks up milk and a couple of pieces of ... Wed, 17 Jun 2015 09:38:04 EST Yesterday's Menu, I've come along ways in 16 days So if you look back to my original post at the beginning of last week titled
Today's much appreciated
I had copy and pasted the foods that i had eaten that particular day. I was Day 7 into my induction.

sageboard_thread.asp?board=0x482x61701150

Honestly, I was feeling quite proud of myself...the veggies were there, the protein was there, and so was the fat..and at the end of the day, my 'numbers' were,... Tue, 16 Jun 2015 10:22:17 EST Tuesday! Good morning, team!

Gonna just make a quick check in here and then proceed to the cafeteria for an omelet. I'm still working out my "new" morning schedule and it's still pretty rough around the edges. I should be saving money and making my breakfast at home, but I just don't feel like it lately. I'd rather pay someone else to do it while I go for a walk around the building and get some steps in. And they probably make a better omelet than I do, lol!

Have a great day, all... Tue, 16 Jun 2015 08:21:22 EST Monday Looks like no one else wants to face it either. Mon, 15 Jun 2015 12:03:30 EST Low carb and calorie watching I have 33lbs to lose and 22 weeks in which I would like to do it. I have a personal trainer and weight train 3 times a week and have done for past 8 weeks. My PT put me on a high protein, low carb low fat eating plan and 8 weeks in and my weight hasn't shifted to much. I'd like to lower my protein intake and up my fat so am looking at less than 40g carbs, 120g fat and approx 90g protein but am also wanting to stay around 1600cal. I tried for first time yesterday and ended up eating 2000cal an... Sun, 14 Jun 2015 18:47:53 EST Net carbs as a nutrition goal? Thanks to advice on this board, I've been able to set up nutrition goals on the food tracker in line with my low carb, higher fat goals.

I didn't find a net carbs to add. Did I just miss it?

I added a fiber goal, so I can subtract the fiber from the carbs, but was wondering if I missed something more obvious. Sun, 14 Jun 2015 12:04:00 EST Sunday - Flag Day! Sun, 14 Jun 2015 10:22:33 EST Saturday Well, just when I think the Spark mindset is opening up a bit, I see a recipe email for Low Carb Quiche! But it's made with non-fat cottage cheese, egg whites, and low-fat cheddar. *sigh* What's the problem with whole foods??

I'm up earlier than my new usual, and I'm going to do a few things at home and then go work at the range. The owner has a nasty head cold, but he's due to leave on a fishing trip next Tuesday. We're going to try to kick out a lot of work today and Monday a... Sat, 13 Jun 2015 10:38:15 EST Low Carb High Fat (Keto or paleo) Ice Cream recipe Where can I find some LCHF or paleo ice cream recipes that are really good? I have a few pinned on Pinterest but not sure if they are good - hoping someone has actually tried one!

Thanks! Fri, 12 Jun 2015 11:52:14 EST Friday - a new day? I'm still surprised to be the one starting the daily thread...

I'm getting ready for work now, and will have to call for a ride shortly. Already logged in to my email and sent a reminder to New Manager - I have to train him on something else that he should already be aware of, but if I train him then he can't expect me to have automatically done it. It's a pay-now-so-I-don't-pay-later sort of plan.

This morning I also made plans to meet a friend from New York ... Thu, 11 Jun 2015 12:16:26 EST Wednesday - Crazy Day! I mean, really crazy! I closed on my house this morning. We asked for the keys and were told we don't get any keys. What? No, the HUD agent (it's a HUD house) will go over sometime today and take off the lock box and unlock it. And then leave, with the house unlocked. Can you believe it? I told them in no uncertain terms that that was not acceptable (Twin is a pretty safe town and it's a good neighborhood, but still!) so he agreed to call me when he gets word that it's been recorded and I can... Wed, 10 Jun 2015 13:24:01 EST School's out for summer! Greetings, low carbers 213

School has officially been out since May 29th and I'm just now getting over a case of the shingles! 234 (I turn 39 tomorrow) 104 The pain, I kid you not, is comparable to labor pains. (So, any of the guys on the board - if you ever get shingles, you know what a woman goes through!) 198

I'm about 95% healed (I still get some pain, occasionally - but I'm off the heavy narcotics and ibuprofen).
... Wed, 10 Jun 2015 13:01:42 EST Wednesday OK, hard a hella hard time getting this going. it kept kicking me out when I tried to enter the Wednesday.

Remember this article? The one where they cut off the comments because Becky was so blatantly wrong?

on_articles.asp?id=590

Coach Jen brought it up in a discussion on carbs over on the diet forum. I composed the following response, primarily because I don't want that article brought to the top ag... Wed, 10 Jun 2015 12:23:32 EST Hoping to lose 2 lbs this week! I'm having a really good week so far (day 3 of a 6 day week... LOL). Sunday was a major sugar blow-out and I've already posted about the awful cramp in my leg and hip that resulted from that! In a way I'm glad it happened, even though it was agony. I'm really determined this week and have been focused, writing my food down, planning every meal etc. It's an easy week because I have no plans to go anywhere, I'm just studying and writing, walking the dog etc. I'm in control, and can't say t... Wed, 10 Jun 2015 08:26:14 EST New to this and need advice I have been on a low carb diet for about a month now. The problem is that I am having cravings around period time. What do you do when those cravings hit. This is the only time I have wanted something off the diet. There is nothing in particular that I am craving just carbs.

What do you women do around this time of the month? Tue, 9 Jun 2015 18:25:21 EST Tuesday Goodness! The day's practically over, even clear out here in the West!

This morning I met with someone from the Refugee Center. Our community college has a refugee resettlement program, where they bring in State Department sponsored refugees and teach them how to live in America, including learning English, getting a job, and so forth. I asked how I signed up (it sounds like fun - and the learning how to live in America was what I liked best about the tutoring I did in Indiana) and... Tue, 9 Jun 2015 17:30:04 EST Monday Wow, I'm beating everyone east of me to start the daily thread??

I'm off to get ready for work in a few minutes. I'm going to work a partial day and then maybe go work at the range. It's a warm day and this boot is going to be even warmer! After verbally straightening out New Manager on Friday night, we'll see how his attitude is this morning. Likely he will be very cooperative. :)

Nothing else planned here that's noteworthy - what's new with you guys? Mon, 8 Jun 2015 11:54:55 EST Sugar cramps! I've been doing quite well. Last week I stayed the same weight, which I was pretty happy with because I'd spent 2 days with friends and been super busy and had probably over-eaten even if it was LC.

But something hit me at around 4pm yesterday. I was at a carboot sale in the morning with my dog. I was one of the sellers (getting rid of junk) and normally my dog is fine. But this carboot was being held in quite a rural area and the nearby farmer had crow scarers going (they send... Mon, 8 Jun 2015 07:57:17 EST Today's much appreciated. I'd just wanted to make sure that I'm on the right track here as far as nutrition. I'm in the 'induction' phase of Atkins 20..any feedback would be appreciated.

Breakfast I had an omelet. Prior to making the omelet I sauteed the ham and onions together with a little butter, and then used additional butter to cook the actual omelet

2 eggs
2 oz of diced ham (Hormel Cure 81, no added nitrates or preservatives)
1.5 oz of cheddar cheese
Diced red onion
1... Sun, 7 Jun 2015 21:19:33 EST Living Low Carb...For the REST of your life! I've noticed there are many people that are opposed to low-carb diets. Up until a week or so ago I admit, I was one of those people. There is a huge amount of information that can be researched with regards to low-carb diets, but trying to decipher what information is to be believed, and what information is simply myth is another thing.
Even the so called 'experts' have different opinions on the subject.

The failure rate for low-carb diets is high because, just like with any d... Sun, 7 Jun 2015 14:51:54 EST Sunday Just found out that the Ag Dept at our junior college (I guess they're called community colleges these days) has u-pick veggies in the summer. Tomatoes, beans, squash, watermelon, cantaloupe, zucchini, cukes, eggplant, etc. - for 75 cents a pound! Also three kinds of raspberries (yellow, red and purple) for $3.50 a pound. It's hardly worth growing my own! At least, it's not worth fussing with trying to get in a garden this summer. I don't know how they grow their veggies, how organic and so f... Sun, 7 Jun 2015 11:19:29 EST Saturday Been a while since I started the daily thread.

Nothing much planned for today. I already took the dog for a walk. I may go to the Farmers Market. Not sure what's there, but I bet it's nothing like the one in Bloomington. Of course, there was a lot more truck farming in Indiana than here in the desert.

Have a great day! Sat, 6 Jun 2015 10:07:53 EST Happy Friday! Today is Commencement, and I can't wait to get it over with, lol!

Yeah, you would think that I'd be thrilled to go, but, meh, not so much. Not my kind of event. I'll need to get there an hour early to get decent seats. For Max's, two years ago, we sat in nearly the last row, and the chairs were actually subtle torture devices. So this go-round I'll get there early and save some bleacher seats for the rest of the family. Thank goodness for Kindle. I can read while I'm waiting.
... Fri, 5 Jun 2015 09:34:27 EST Thursday Let's get this party started!

Thu, 4 Jun 2015 10:53:43 EST Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Bars I made these with coconut milk instead of the heavy cream. YUM!

06/04/strawberry-cheesecake-ice-pops/
Wed, 3 Jun 2015 22:22:15 EST Wednesday - prose! Met my SIL at the hospital here. She drove ten hours to be here when her 80 year old father had a knee replaced. The surgery was yesterday, and while it went well, he's disoriented today and in a lot of pain. She didn't feel she could leave him alone long enough to come to the house or to eat out. They had prime rib at the cafeteria! A big slab, plus potatoes and veggies for $7.99. And I got an end cut, which is my favorite. They put the potatoes on the plate before I could say no, but I didn... Wed, 3 Jun 2015 17:51:38 EST Wednesday - 6 word poems Work sucks. So busy. Miss home. Wed, 3 Jun 2015 15:08:54 EST Tuesday - I Love My Dentist Day Wow, I get to start this thread!

First of all, I don't love my dentist (sorry Dr. Schneider). I've always had a dreaded fear of dentists and try to take very good care of my teeth so I don't have to go through undue pain.

One interesting note, my teeth feel so much stronger and better since I have been on LC plan. Not sure if this is in my mind or an actual positive effect of LC.

Happy Tuesday! Tue, 2 Jun 2015 12:42:46 EST Atkins Protein Bar, Net Carb Question I'm very new to low carb dieting but I thought that 'net carbs' was easily calculated by subtracting the 'fiber' grams from the 'total carbohydrate' grams

For example, if the total carbohydrate on the back of a product reads 10 grams, and then directly underneath, the fiber grams read 5 grams, this would then make the NET carbohydrates from this product 5 grams...right??

I was sitting here pricing the Atkins Advantage Dark Chocolate Decadence Protein Bar, 5ct ( Tue, 2 Jun 2015 10:32:31 EST Another big test for me this week... Doing great on LC and I certainly don't need ketostix to tell me that I'm in ketosis. I can tell by how long it takes to fall asleep! Yes, I've got a touch of the keto-insomnia lol, not really worried. I do sleep well in the end. I just don't fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow anymore.

I also appear to be steadily and slowly losing which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Planning to spend an overnight with friends this week, at their home. It presents a new ... Tue, 2 Jun 2015 02:11:06 EST I've restarted South Beach Hi there:

After experiencing ankle and foot pain repeatedly over the last few months (and seeing my weight go up) I decided to try the South Beach Diet again. I did it 10 years ago and lost 31 pounds. I just restarted last Thursday. I had the Day 2 Sugar detox headache but since then I seem to feel great. Perhaps it's a coincidence, but since I have restarted this plan, my ankle has not been swollen and my foot does not hurt one bit.

I hope I can keep it up :-) Mon, 1 Jun 2015 22:12:11 EST The first Monday in June Wow, I got off to a rocky start this morning at work. I had left my computer on on Friday to defragment it, so when I came in the morning I restarted it. Sheesh! I don't know WHAT it thought it had to download - no one else had any trouble - but it hung and hung and hung, all the while advising me NOT to shut the computer down. So I logged in at one of the spare computers, and was just getting my email open when our new temp came in and, well, needed a place to sit. I had reconnected a few ca... Mon, 1 Jun 2015 10:40:37 EST Sunday How's everyone doing today? I'm feeling great, got this LC thing deeply embedded into my
Life style and loving life x Sun, 31 May 2015 03:24:41 EST I am also a "Newbie" to low carb plan. I think I forgot how to post and where,( been on facebook too long) I need some other low carb friends to keep me on track..I started this 4 days ago, and scales has gone down 3.25 pounds which is great, thinking I may be eating too much meat,bacon,etc..I am on the tracker too..have not even looked to see if spark has a low carb plan, sure they dont by other posts I have seen.....Sharyn Sat, 30 May 2015 20:17:15 EST I'm new, again Hi All, I've decided to come back to low-carb after realizing that I feel better when I don't eat a lot of carbs.

I've been wandering around the SP site, looking to see if they had included a low-carb diet plan for the nutrition tracker, and was disappointed to see that they still haven't. So, I did some web-surfing, and found that the website does have a free online tracker. I have the Atkins & the South Beach books, and I've done Weight Watchers on and off for years... Sat, 30 May 2015 17:28:04 EST Saturday It's been a long time since I started a thread! Happy Saturday.

It's been a hectic week so haven't checked in for a few days. We ended up with 3 offers on our house - 2 on Wednesday night and 1 on Thursday morning, and accepted an all cash offer for $500 over asking price! Probably closing the end of July, which means we have to find a house ASAP. We are looking at 3 today. Pray for us to find the right house really soon, I would really prefer not to have to rent for a while and mo... Sat, 30 May 2015 11:57:04 EST Friday Good morning, and Happy Friday!

I got up at my usual school-year wakeup time because Kyle had to go to school today for Commencement practice. Which means.... (drumroll, please) I think he's actually going to graduate!!!! At least I think so....

246

Have a great day, all! Fri, 29 May 2015 09:23:20 EST Thursday Where is everybody? Thu, 28 May 2015 15:23:27 EST Hello! I'm New Hi! My name is Leanna. 213

I've just recently experimented with low carb eating (like maybe a week) and am seeing the scale move already! I've NEVER tried or read anything about low carb eating, so I m eager to learn more. This team looked so friendly and active, I look forward to continuing my journey here.
Thu, 28 May 2015 15:09:43 EST Killer Leg Cramp I woke up Tuesday morning with the most awful leg cramping ever! It finally worked itself out, but today my calf still feels tight and hurts, especially when I walk down stairs. I remember getting them years ago when I first did LC, but it still kind of worried me, it seemed so much worse than any in the past.

I heard something about concerns about dangerous blood clots breaking off (or something like that). I'm sure it will all be fine, but just was curious what others thought.... Wed, 27 May 2015 23:58:15 EST Wednesday - Sunscreen Day! I have mixed feelings about sunscreen. Everyone says that getting burned or even tanned contributes to skin cancer. But, as the Paleo movement people say, we need Vitamin D and it doesn't make evolutionary sense that the source of something we need would kill us. I figure it's probably something in the diet that reacts with the sun to make the deadly rays. Anyway, it's getting to be summer, so don't forget the sunscreen, if you think it's important.

The Senior Center has homemade c... Wed, 27 May 2015 12:49:27 EST Tuesday Today is errand day around here. I need to get insurance for my new car (Oops! I should be doing that instead of posting here!), then get it licensed, and take it back to the dealer for a few things they forgot to put in it, like the spare tire stuff. Mom wants to get the dog groomed, and we'd go grocery shopping at the same time, since it's right next door. Maybe go to Office Max at the same time, since it's on the other side of the groomers. I need to get the marigolds and onions planted, a... Tue, 26 May 2015 10:47:50 EST Tough week behind me and another one ahead...
The scales said I'd put on 1.5lbs last week and I'm not surprised. I have so much going on at the moment and most of it is reaching a climax by Sunday (my next weigh in day). I've not had time to go shopping so began eating whatever was here, resulting in high carb meals. And I've over indulged (stress eating I think),on even low carb foods so a bit of a mess overall.

I'm always at risk of getting confused or giving up when I hit this kind of bump. Don't want to quit low car... Tue, 26 May 2015 02:29:22 EST Remodeling Renovating Not sure what to call it, but...

I'm buying a house that needs a lot of work. A LOT of work. Like $20,000 worth, which is close to what I spent all last year.

To this point, I've just gone with what the contractor that my realtor suggested said. I figure he knows what he's doing and I don't. Not that I'm leaving all of the decisions to him. I went through the house and made a detailed list of what I want done, and discussed it with him. Most of what I want done is stuff... Mon, 25 May 2015 22:48:20 EST Memorial Day - Lest We Forget Thanks to all who serve or have served our country in the military, and to their families.

After a real gully washer yesterday, including hail and lots of thunder and lightning, today is absolutely beautiful. At least it is at the moment. Blue sky, temps in the upper 60s, practically no wind. Gorgeous! I took the dog for a walk the whole length of the alley this morning and may get out and do some gardening this afternoon. No plans other than that.

Hope you're having a ... Mon, 25 May 2015 12:20:28 EST Sunday - National Snail Day! Well, actually it's National Escargot Day, but same difference, Have you ever eaten snails? I did, once. In high school. We had a potluck dinner for the various language clubs, and someone from French Club brought snails. I ate one. Swallowed it whole. The garlic butter sauce was pretty good, but I'd much rather just eat garlic butter sauce with a spoon!

Church this morning, then I need to plant a few of the extra plants I bought, and do some weeding. I think that's all that's plan... Sun, 24 May 2015 09:38:24 EST Saturday, May 23 - Gateway to Summer! Yup, it's Memorial Day weekend and we had frost warnings last night, lol! I never put plants on the porch before June 1 just to be safe.

Today's agenda has nothing but housework and WoW. I'll do the timer thing, I think. Fifteen minutes of concentrated cleaning and organizing followed by 45 minutes of whatever I feel like doing. It doesn't sound all that productive until you do the math and realize that over the course of the full day that's more that 3 hours of serious cleaning! ... Sat, 23 May 2015 09:26:33 EST Hi i'm new Hi, I've been a regular on sparks for a few years on and off but keep coming back to it as the support is awesome! I've been fortunate enough to avoid it. That's a lot of work! I'd be too tempted to "accidentally" spill a plate of food or a glass of something over someone's head, I'm afraid.

Nothing on the agenda for today except waiting for the last two inspection reports and bids. Actually, I don't need to send them to the two guys who will be bidding on doing all the work. The sprinkler system needs to be completely replaced and the heat pump is sh... Thu, 21 May 2015 09:47:32 EST 1 month Weigh In Today was my 1 month "weigh in'. I am actually one of those who weighs everyday and sometimes several times (although I am fully aware that weight loss is not linear and I don't get to affected by the ups and downs).

I am down 11 lbs from April 20th and 16 down from beginning of March when it clicked with me that I need to do something about my weight.

As I have mentioned, I have given in couple of times to sweets and I have had my fair share of vodka sodas and Michelob... Super easy when grocery shopping and reading labels.

BTW, yes hubby might think that to loose weight you need to cut calories, and fat has the most calories per gram, but the goal is not to eat the most volume of stuff, the goal is not to be hungry while loosing weight. Mon, 18 May 2015 13:27:58 EST Monday - No Dirty Dishes Day! I took the dog for a short walk this morning, but it started sprinkling and the alley was already muddy so it didn't last very long. Now I'm waiting for the realtor to tell me when the various inspections on my house are. The utilities will be turned on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and all the inspections need to be done then. Have been feeling slightly dizzy since I started LC, but wasn't sure what could be causing it. Three other things were also possibly contributing, which included a change in medication, the possibility that I might need glasses, or some osteopathic stuff.

So I had a phone appointment with my GP to ask him whether it might be something to worry about. I explained that I'd radically changed my diet and had almost entire eliminated carbs from my meals, when previously I was a real ca... Sat, 16 May 2015 06:15:05 EST Teh Friday Thread I'm still molto busy. Hoping things slow wayyyyyy down after this weekend. Kyle's last project is done, Max will be coming home tomorrow, the fiscal year is nearly over as well and there are no new explosions on the work front (knock on wood). Fri, 15 May 2015 11:32:07 EST Thursday Planted six tomato plants in Mom's flower bed. Mostly what's in the bed are tulips and weeds and grass. Tomato cages probably won't win her the Garden Beautiful Award, but the tomatoes should be good. I got a Sweet 100 (red grape), a Sungold Hybrid (yellow cherry), and four Early Girls (red slicers). I only intended to get one of the Early Girls, but they only had them in a four pack. It took me over an hour to plant them, and I expect to be stiff by tonight. I got some basil, too, too keep a... Going out to dinner tonight and we are deciding between a Chinese Restaurant and a Thai "fusion" restaurant.

At the Thai place I always order Red Curry Chicken. It is Coconut Milk based and delicious. I've searched recipes and I think this is a good choice, but what would be a good substitute for rice to put it on? Thu, 14 May 2015 13:26:17 EST Medical tests results I am so discouraged right now. Every thing is going well. I've lost 16 pounds over the past five months. I enjoy eating this way and don't have any cravings, have no problems with staying on track and then I got my test results. My cholesterol results are especially discouraging! They have always been high, but they have gone up from December from 240 total to 314 today. My LDL went from 157 to 223. My HDL also went up from 55 to 69. (that's a good thing). Triglycerides were also down from 14... Wed, 13 May 2015 20:18:18 EST Hello Everyone! Hi Everyone,
I have been with Spark People for 4 1/2 years now. Ran into a plateau in 2011 and finally figured out how to break it. Low carb is definitely the way for me. I have lost 10 pounds in just under 2 months. When I joined Spark in 2011, I lost 25 pounds, but the weight loss halted and 12 of those crept back on. Looking forward to swapping tips and recipes with you.
Feel free to drop by my spark page or my recent blog post;

Wed, 13 May 2015 18:36:57 EST Friday the 13th is on a Wednesday this month! I feel nauseous constantly and all I want to do is sleep. Up until last week I had tons of energy and was working out about 60 minutes a day Monday-Friday. My youngest ended up with an ear infection and bronchitis last week so I lost some sleep with him so I didn't work out the last couple days of the week. I started this on Sunday and just haven't had the energy to get up and do it since then so I haven't worked out in about a week. I hate it. I rea... I know that it obviously depends on your current weight and how much you want to lose, but I'm wondering how many calories people tend to eat on low carb (and are you successfully losing?).

I've done the SP nutritional calculations, and it says that for my current weight and goal weight I should be eating between 1800-2000 calories each day.

That's quite a comfortable amount for me, but because of my low carb intake it does mean that my protein levels are pretty high. ... Fri, 8 May 2015 08:49:08 EST Just starting out Hi everyone. I am just getting ready to start LCHF this weekend after I go to the store. I've been researching and reading everything I can for about a week. Up until now I have been using Sparkpeople to count calories and have done pretty decent. I've lost 29lbs doing that. Thu, 7 May 2015 12:09:50 EST Tips on how to track carbs in the UK Wow... this week I found out that food labels and carb tracking is different in the UK than in the USA. As a result, my first week (where I lost 6.6 lbs) and my 2nd week (when I only lost 1/2 lbs) and my 3rd week (where I've managed to get into a complete muddle), are due to my having followed a crazy mix between USA and UK carb tracking methods.

Here are some facts that I got from the Nutritionists at

1. It wasn't cheap because it wasn't crap. It was things like expensive french salamies, low carb dips, sundried tomatoes etc. Things that go off very quickly so I can't even freeze them. Plus they aren't Induction foods, so I can't really keep them for myself, otherwise I'd be falling off Induction every day until they were gone!

And then this morning the girls started flaking... It really needs to be mowed.

I don't think I really understand/know/accept/believe that I'm moving in less than a week! There is so much left to do and I don't seem to be in any hurry to do it. Which is probably also part of why I'm not at all concerned or sad ... Wed, 29 Apr 2015 07:26:59 EST Tuesday Today is National Great Poetry Reading Day, Kiss Your Mate Day, International Astronomy Day, and National Blueberry Pie Day. Apparently you're supposed to be canoodling with your mate and quoting poetry by starlight or moonlight, while eating blueberry pie. Which, of course, you made with a low carb sweetener and crust!

It's also National Workers' Memorial Day, honoring those who were killed, injured or sickened by their work. There are still too many of those, though fortunately n... Tue, 28 Apr 2015 12:17:02 EST Making sense of ketostix (from Atkins web forum) I am quite new to low carb and soaking up everything I can. Found this on the web forum for Atkins and it really helped me to put all things Ketostix Pinks and Purples into perspective.

I'm happy to be Pink today, but at least now I know not to let the colour of the stix rule my life.

ms/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6725-q
uestions-about-ketostix-color.html
Tue, 28 Apr 2015 09:41:54 EST Low-carb Veggie Burgers (6.5 net carbs each) I couldn't find a truly low-carb recipe anywhere and fancied a bit of a rumble around in the kitchen. So made these this morning. Turned out lovely. Here's the recipe:

l.asp?recipe=2916221

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 06:49:53 EST Monday - Tell a Story Day and Prime Rib Day! So eat a big slab of prime rib with lots of fat, and a salad with gobs of blue cheese or ranch dressing, and some vegetables dripping with butter, and tell everyone the story of how eating this way has made you so much healthier and happier!

Another beautiful day! The only thing on my calendar for today is bridge this afternoon. And more packing. Always more packing! And getting rid of more stuff that I've sorted out. Mon, 27 Apr 2015 09:21:03 EST Sunday - National Pet Parents Day! To honor all the pet parents. After all, our pets are part of the family, aren't they? (My brother, who is something of a jerk and a pain in the you know what, used to take his not so well behaved dog with him wherever he went. When he was told that not everyone wants a dog in their house, his response was that people could their not so well behaved kids with them, so he could take his dog. Now he takes his not so well behaved kids AND his not so well behaved dog. Sigh.)

A beautifu... Sun, 26 Apr 2015 10:14:20 EST Have you seen this low carb pizza recipe? It looks amazing! And I love how it's in pictures, that way even someone like me can get it right. I will try this recipe very very soon.

-pizza.html
Sun, 26 Apr 2015 08:24:08 EST On day 7... looking back on the week... Well, I've been at this for nearly 7 days now. Looking back, I've had more oil and fat than I would ever have on a 'diet'. But to be honest, when you think about all the hidden fats and oils in junk food, including icecream etc., I'm not really eating more fat than I would when I'm eating rubbish... except I'm not getting all that sugar. And that makes me know that what I'm doing on low carb isn't unhealthy... it's just allowing to eat what I want, so long as I exclude the unhealthy carbs... Sun, 26 Apr 2015 08:12:45 EST Saturday A sort of dreary day today - overcast, and we're supposed to have rain and/or thunderstorms. Today is the Little 500, which is a really big event here. They even did a movie about it several years ago. It's a bike race, and the name is a reflection on the Indy 500 next month. A good day to stay away from downtown!

Got good news from the doctor yesterday at my checkup. All my numbers are fine. My A1c is still flirting with prediabetes but is actually down a tad since last year. My H... Sat, 25 Apr 2015 10:11:40 EST 2 thing convinced me this week about low carb! I thought you guys might find this quite interesting...

Before I started the Atkins induction I took at pretty good look at the Atkins website, trying to figure out if I could realistically do this. I saw a video link to YouTube where Dr Waterman (is that his name?), who is the Atkins nutritionist, was instructing people on how to begin with induction.

I watched the whole way through, and it really helped me to begin with confidence.

But during the video I ... Sat, 25 Apr 2015 07:17:23 EST On that Low Carb HIGH Today is only day 5, but I have that burst of energy that I usually get in the beginning stages of induction. It's like the carb fog has left and it is a wonderful feeling. I was a little over on carbs on Tues & Weds due to some alcohol choices, but nailed my numbers yesterday! So happy to feel this way AND it being Friday. I am looking forward to planning next weeks meals and cooking this weekend.
334 Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:56:55 EST Friday - Arbor Day! Also National Hairball Awareness Day, but it's really only relevant for cat owners, and I suspect that most cat owners are already aware!

I have my annual physical/checkup today. They were able to squeeze me in before I leave. I'm a bit concerned/curious about how my A1c and cholesterol numbers are going to come out. I was able to get the blood work done a couple of weeks ago so we'd be able to go over everything while I'm still here, but I'd been very HFHC. I suspect the numbers ... Fri, 24 Apr 2015 10:33:39 EST Recipe ideas for Garlic Mayo I got a jar of garlic mayo for Christmas and I haven't opened it yet. I am doing Atkins induction and wanted to get some ideas of what yummy dish or snack I can make with it. Right now the only thing I use mayo for is my deviled eggs. I as thinking mixing with chicken breast for a Chicken Salad to put on a bed of lettuce. Any other ideas are appreciated. Thanks! Thu, 23 Apr 2015 12:24:43 EST How many eggs do you eat a day? I'm on day 4 of Induction and just realised that I've eaten 18 eggs since Monday. It was delicious, but wow!

I will take the 'unlimited eggs' advice literally and not worry about it. But just wondering... how many eggs do other people tend to eat a day?

:-)
Thu, 23 Apr 2015 09:48:48 EST No-egg breakfast ideas Hi all,

I thought I'd add this lovely breakfast that I had today and open up a message topic for others to also add their ideas.

This morning I grilled a gammon (ham) steak topped with grated zucchini, blue cheese and cherry tomatoes. Was lovely and quite satisfying. Total cooking time around 10 minutes so a quick brekkie too!

I love eggs, but sometimes it's nice to try something egg-free.

Any more breakfast ideas out there?
Thu, 23 Apr 2015 02:32:10 EST Thursday - Lover's Day & Take a Chance Day! Think they're related somehow? Thu, 23 Apr 2015 00:36:17 EST Back with the group Hi, I am a very inactive member of the group and wanted to re-introduce myself. I had success on low carb many years ago and slowly went back to eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I have attempted many times since then to either restrict calories or go back to low carb, but nothing lasted for more than a few days. In early March I decided to join Weight Watchers. This was something I was going to do for myself and I felt a motivation that I had never felt before (I am turning 49... Wed, 22 Apr 2015 13:28:40 EST Wednesday - Earth Day! Isn't it interesting that so many of things we can do that are good for us personally are also good for the environment? Not overeating. Skipping the frankenfoods. Eating grass fed meats and dairy. Eating organic foods. Walking or biking instead of driving. Doing instead of watching the boob tube. What are you doing for Planet Earth today? What will you be doing tomorrow, and the next day?

Today is errand day for me. Yes, that means in the car! I'll be taking a couple of boxes of s... Wed, 22 Apr 2015 09:22:42 EST New to low carb. Would love induction advice! Hi, I'm starting my low carb life with Atkins 2 week induction. Does anyone know how long it takes before my body begins to burn fat?

I've been trying to stick to 20g carbs for now. Honestly, I think I'm beginning to notice that even if I cook with butter, put cream in my coffee, and eat bacon every day, my fat intake is similar to my non-diet habits.

When I'm not dieting I am convincing myself that a chocolate bar and 1-2 ice cream bars a day is less fat? So silly... A... Wed, 22 Apr 2015 01:51:18 EST Tuesday So, how's your day going?

Mine started with waking up about 5 and not being able to get back to sleep. (I usually get up sometime between 7 and 9.) So I came out and counted my pennies. Well, actually my quarters. I "collect" (read accumulate) commemorative or other unusual coins, so that means saving all of the state and park quarters I run across. It's an easy and relatively painless way to save a bit of money. I've got over $500 of coins, mostly quarters, some Susan N Anthony a... Tue, 21 Apr 2015 06:55:47 EST Monday - Volunteer Recognition Day! Volunteering is essential to keeping America running, whether it's volunteering in your church, for a political party or cause or person, for a non-profit, or just helping out a neighbor or friend or family member. There are enough ways to volunteer that there are things that everyone can do and enjoy doing. A really big way of volunteering is just to keep coming back here and giving everyone encouragement (and the occasional nag or talking to!), sharing your successes and your challenges, an... Mon, 20 Apr 2015 09:39:12 EST Sunday - National Hanging Out Day Sounds good to me!

It's also National Oklahoma City Bombing Commemoration Day.

Had a busy day planned, but it's changed all of a sudden. I'm working in the church nursery this morning, and had invited some friends over to play bridge this afternoon. Something hit me suddenly this morning, though, and I had to cancel the bridge. Probably just digestive complaints from eating way too much last night. I'll do the nursery, though. We always have two people there, one paid p... Sun, 19 Apr 2015 09:25:21 EST I need help with my steaks! I do not have an outdoor grill and I usually fry in cast iron or use the oven. The problem is my steaks are too tough... need to be tenderized. I have a freezer full from butchering a cow (first time I have ever had a cow rather than a steer which is fattier and probably more tender).

I want to keep my steaks low carb. Marinating is often helpful to tenderize steak but adds calories and carbs. I tried course salt for an hour to break down the steak... but after washing it stil... Sun, 19 Apr 2015 08:18:50 EST Saturday Where is everyone? Hope you're all out enjoying the day. Sat, 18 Apr 2015 14:26:39 EST Just another regular old dinner! LOL! My mom said my dinner tonight sounded awful fancy. But when you cook real food it's really not. and it's too easy!
Of course getting to this point (cooking real food) was hard! You can't dump-boil-and just bake!

We are having
whipped organic carrots. Made with turkey broth, HWC, butter, organic cheddar cheese and bacon bits!
Almond flour onion biscuits
chiocken breasts marinated in garlic oil and tamari, wrapped in bacon with a slice of swiss cheese on top. <B... Fri, 17 Apr 2015 17:12:04 EST Friday - Blah, Blah, Blah Day! Honest! It's even a copyrighted holiday!

Today is also National Day of Silence, which is seems an odd juxtaposition until you realize that the two designations aren't what they seem. Blah, Blah, Blah Day is a day to quite procrastinating and to do the things that others have been nagging you to do. National Day of Silence is a protest against the bullying and harassment of GLBT. But I still think the names of the designations go well together.

Nothing on the calendar at ... Fri, 17 Apr 2015 08:45:47 EST National Wear Pajamas to Work Day Ohhhhhh yeahhhhhhhh. I am totally down with that. Though, honestly, my regular wardrobe is only a step above pj's anyway, so I have nothing to complain about!

Lots on my list today, so I'd better get back to it! Happy Thursday, all! Thu, 16 Apr 2015 09:32:47 EST Wednesday - April 15! And we all know what that means! Except, perhaps those from foreign (to us Yanks) lands. It's also the day the Titanic sank, many years ago. I don't think I knew that the Titanic sank on such an unpropitious day.

Woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep, so got up and did some housework. Did the daily stuff, and then cleaned out the two drawers of my nightstand. Lots of stuff in there, and now it's all sorted out and down to less than one drawer, and I know what I'll do with al... Wed, 15 Apr 2015 09:00:22 EST Seen on shelves: Level protein snack bars Level markets to diabetics, apparently a whole lifestyle/diet program of which the products are a part, promoted on the boxes as a "reduced carb program designed to fight high blood sugar & help lose weight." Nice to see! I eat the occasional Atkins bar, and these seem fairly comparable--a little less sweet and less chemical in taste (though the chemical aftertaste I expect from all such things is still present, just less prominent). Pretty similar ingredients. Can't speak to the progra... Tue, 14 Apr 2015 08:12:29 EST Tuesday - Library Workers Day! It's also International Moment of Laughter Day, Look up at the Sky Day, National Pecan Day, Reach as High as You Can Day, Poem in Your Pocket Day, Dolphin Day, Be Kind to Lawyers Day, Equal Pay Day, Ex-Spouse Day. So, which one are you going to celebrate?

I really, really, really need to just make myself go to bed. I don't know why I resist it so much, even when I'm totally groggy. But I do.

The appraiser is coming over today and I'm not ready. I'm going to have to get u... Tue, 14 Apr 2015 02:06:19 EST New to the Group - Hi! I started a low carb diet back before the holidays, steadily lost a couple of pounds every week or so without really counting anything. I mostly just cut out grains, sugar, fruit, etc... But I ate vegetables freely. Then I fell off the wagon in a major way. I sort of half assed it with getting back on plan after that. I'd do really well for a week, cheat for three days, do okay for four days, etc... The result is that my weight has since bounced up and down between the same five pounds. Getti... Mon, 13 Apr 2015 13:05:31 EST Monday - National Thomas Jefferson Day! And don't forget that he was instrumental in bringing lots of new kinds of vegetables to the US. He grew over 250 different varieties of vegetables in his garden!

Lots to do today, since I didn't get everything done yesterday. Started the day making business phone calls. I'm waiting now for a storage facility in Idaho to open so I can call them. After I get the business calls taken care of, I'll go get some blood work done. They usually schedule the blood work after the checkup, bu... Mon, 13 Apr 2015 10:52:15 EST How? Anyone read Keto Clarity and/or following the plan?

I was reading one of the success story about a woman who lost 200 pounds and she did so by eating 90% fat 8% protein & 2% carbs.

Here are my questions:
What in the world did she eat?
How do you get 90% fat in a day?
8% protein, really?
2% carbs I guess she didn't eat vegetables?

I currently get approixmately 72-76% fat, 22-26% protein & 4-6% carbs a day. I'm not losing weight so I need ... Mon, 13 Apr 2015 09:26:29 EST Thanks, and.... Thanks for the hints and encouragement. I especially feel that I need to cut back on goals and stick to that advice about low carbs, without worry about calories--for now, at least. That is where I think God is leading for now. Sun, 12 Apr 2015 14:45:05 EST Sunday - National Big Wind Day! Officially, it commemorates the strongest natural wind gust ever recorded - 231 mph at Mount Washington Observatory on April 12, 1934. Which sort of surprised me. I thought it probably had something to do with politicians!

Today is also Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Day.

Lots of stuff planned to do around the house. That is, lots of 15 minute sessions. I hope to get the house back to being show ready, though I may not get quite that far. But I might. It's amazing how ... Sun, 12 Apr 2015 09:39:05 EST Newbe Started yesterday and did great till around 7:00pm, when Temptation won and I 'pigged' out on carbs. I have struggled with addiction to carbs since I was a toddler. Oh, how hard to let go! Sat, 11 Apr 2015 12:30:35 EST Saturday - National Pet Day Got to love those little furry friends!

Errands today. Have to pick up some books at the library. I took a box of old cookbooks down to the special collections library on campus, and they wanted to keep some of them. I need to pick up the rest of them and then find a new home for them. Then I'll go to the public library for Discardia. There's a group of mostly women who sew and mend, and they take their sewing machines and thread down to the library and do free mending and some alt... Sat, 11 Apr 2015 08:33:00 EST Friday - TGIF and National Siblings Day! National Siblings Day is a day to remember and appreciate your siblings. I don't know about yours, but mine got much better once they moved far away! Or maybe it was just as we grew up. I actually enjoy seeing them now, which wasn't always the case when I was a teenager.

When I was a kid, Mom used to tell my brothers to appreciate me and me to appreciate them because some day we'd be in a situation where they'd suggest that I invite one of my friends over and I'd agree, if they inv... Fri, 10 Apr 2015 10:20:40 EST MY GOOD INTENTIONS After another night of no sleep and feeling totally exhausted today, I postponed an important errand because I was too groggy to drive my car. I came up with these intentions for the rest of my tomorrows:

1 -- Stick to my paleo/low-carb eating.
2 -- Limit whey smoothies to one per day--too many carbs.
3 -- Take all my supplements.
4 -- Do my bedtime routine.
5 -- Ride my ex-bike 10 minutes three times per day.
6 -- Lift weights or something heavy. ... Thu, 9 Apr 2015 22:26:17 EST TGIF Eve Good morning, teammates!

Yes it's the eve before TGIF! Where the heck are these weeks flying to?!?!?

Quiet in my cubicle again. I'm working on a compliance task that I'm supposed to do weekly but hasn't gotten done since Thanksgiving. Yikes! I'm glad the Internal Controls department didn't choose this month to audit me! I accidentally "broke" the database I used to have set up for the task, and during that busy time of the year I had no time to find someone to fix it. I... Thu, 9 Apr 2015 10:10:08 EST Hello! Hi Everyone. I've had a weight issue almost my entire life. To my own amazement, I lost a significant amount of weight on the "old" Atkins diet back in the mid 90s but more importantly, I felt GREAT during that time! But then in 1999, I became pregnant with my last child and gained it all back and then some. I got so discouraged that 15 years later, I haven't lost another pound. I also let myself be convinced that Atkins was not healthy but over the years, I have come to realize that suga... Wed, 8 Apr 2015 11:04:08 EST Wednesday - National All Is Ours Day! Several sites said that today is National All Is Ours Day, but no one seemed to really know what it meant. A couple of suggestions were that it was a day to reflect on the beauty of nature or that it was a day for sharing, based on the "ours." I guess I'm just a basically selfish person. I read it to mean that everything is ours, and the rest of them don't get any. My "our" seems to be pretty limited!

Anyway, not much planned for the day except a tutoring session and a visit to my ... Wed, 8 Apr 2015 09:46:42 EST Tuesday - no housework day Ok, it is also national beer day, but in good conscience I had to pick an alternate topic name. Tue, 7 Apr 2015 09:41:27 EST WORD FOR THE DAY MINDFULNESS: BE WHERE YOU ARE ! ! !

Be mindful of the food I am eating today--does it taste good.
Be mindful of where I am walking--be safe.
Be mindful of my feelings--create happiness and joy. Smile at everyone I see. Think wellness, think enjoyment.
Be mindful of how long I sit at my computer or watching TV--keep moving.
Be mindful of where I put my keys! Put them in the same place every day. Mon, 6 Apr 2015 15:49:11 EST Monday - National Sorry Charlie Day! National Sorry Charlie Day has nothing to do with tuna. It's about carrying on with a smile after you've been rejected. How many times have we let a small rejection (that often wasn't even intended as such) ruin or day or kept us from doing something we wanted to do? Stop it!

One thing that bugs me is when people are afraid to ask you something because you might say no. I do a lot of volunteering, and the folks at the organizations don't ask me to help with things because they "don... Mon, 6 Apr 2015 10:51:57 EST Sunday - Happy Easter! I'm off to a slowish start for someone with one ankle in a splint and elevated most of the time. Managed a shower and shampoo, and a friend is on the way over to visit and help with a few things. My anxiety level is up for some reason - no clue why! LOL

I don't really celebrate Easter so I'm not missing any plans. I hope you all are having fun, seeing signs of Spring, and do good things for yourselves today!

And where the heck are you?? I noticed that coolwhip is low in carbs. Sat, 4 Apr 2015 20:36:37 EST Hello there Hey everyone!
My name is Jess and I am returning to Atkins. I really don't know why I stopped, it just kinda happened gradually. The day I decided to go on Atkins was January 5th 2015, this is the same day my father-in-law passed away. He lived with us and, sadly, my 12 year old son found him in his room. I decided to keep going with Atkins because he really wanted me to become healthy. I Stuck with it for over a month and I really had no problems with it - I lost 16 pounds, 3 of which I... Sat, 4 Apr 2015 13:44:05 EST Saturday - Walk Around Things Day! I need to tell them this over on the De-Cluttering Challenge Thread!

And today is also Tell a Lie Day, though you may not believe me about that.

One of the guys who installed the carpet said to let him know if I ever decide to sell my car, because he was interested. So I called him, and he and his son are coming over this afternoon to look at it. I figure I don't want to drive a 21 year old Ford Escort cross country. I don't know how to go about selling a car, so I'm wil... Sat, 4 Apr 2015 11:39:06 EST New to Low Carb! I guess I should have looked here before posting on the wall. Oh well.

I have always just watched strictly calories, and if I was PERFECT (60+ minutes of exercise and logging every bite) I would lose .5 to 1 pound a week.

I've been listening to "Cut the Fat" podcast. He kept mentioning keeping carbs low. So derrrr...I checked my carbs (I use the app "Lose It") and saw I was eating 150- well over 200 g of carbs a day! Maybe this is why I had to work so hard?
<BR... Fri, 3 Apr 2015 17:01:46 EST My First Post Here Good morning and Happy Friday everyone.

I"m super excited to be able to make my first post here a positive one. I nearly posted a few days ago when I was super frustrated with my plateau of a little over 3 weeks. I had been doing relatively low carb but still a fair bit of fruit, in smoothies and half an apple for a snack with peanut butter. Starting on Tuesday I went back to Atkins Induction - down 1.8 lbs as of this morning.

And on a super happy note I went jean... Fri, 3 Apr 2015 12:21:04 EST Good Friday It's Good Friday and it is quiet on the forum this morning ... is everyone busy?

Have a great day everyone and a Happy Easter!

Xana Fri, 3 Apr 2015 10:56:14 EST Sweetener I've been reading an article about sweeteners and what to use for hot, cold, cooking methods, etc. I'm basically interested in cooking or hot drinks (like tea). Does anyone have an opinion about monk fruit? the article sounded positive that it doesn't spike sugar and that it's natural. I found one online but dextrose is added to the monkfruit. It's confusing! Just wanted others opinions, and maybe there's a better choice. THanks! Fri, 3 Apr 2015 06:59:20 EST April De-Cluttering Challenge Is clutter still taking over your life? What changed?

I was in the dollar store, and in the food section I found some packages of Sensa. I remember seeing the info-mertial a few years ago and at one dollar a package rather than ten, I thought I'd give it a try.

I've been sprinkling it on everything I eat.
