SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard We will discuss low carb lifestyles (including Atkins,Protein Power, South Beach and other doctor-recommended low carb plans), trade low carb recipes and team up to do this together! SparkPeople Living Low Carb (Atkins and other Plans) Team Messageboard Saturday High today of 86, low of 55, humidity 28. Not bad.

Fireworks are legal now, 8 am to midnight. June 23 through July 5. Not legal if they explode or go in the air. Russell hates them. One went off last night and he shivered so hard. I closed up the house to keep out as much of the noise as possible. Last year he shivered so hard his ears got hot. Really hot. I need to get him a Thunder Shirt or whatever they're called. I wrapped him up in some knit cloth last year as a DIY Thunder S... Sat, 24 Jun 2017 08:52:13 EST Nervous Noob Here Hi everybody. I'm a WW runaway and starting my experimentation w/ lchf living. I've read Dr. Fung's book and am reading Mark Hyman's now (Eat Fat Get Thin). I'm also doing a me-version of intermittent fasting (me likes 18% cream in her morning coffee, that's all I'm sayin'). I have an appt with my family doctor next week to ask about this WoE and to get bloodwork done if she'll cooperate with me and order the tests. I have a lot of questions, a lot to learn, (like, what the heck is a "net car... Sat, 24 Jun 2017 07:19:21 EST Find Something New for Friday! Are you in a rut? I know I am. I think ruts are one of the worst enemies of sticking with a healthy way of life! I get in a rut, quit looking for new recipes or ideas, get bored, stick with the same old things, and then instead of finding something new (or even just different) that fits with my healthy way of life, find something old that doesn't fit with my healthy way of life. Does that sound familiar?

Let's try something new today! It doesn't have to be anything big. A new reci... Fri, 23 Jun 2017 09:42:00 EST Thespian Thursday This goes back to one of Woubbie's daily team challenges. Fake it til you make it! We all have things we have to do (or at least should do) that we don't want to do. Do it anyway! Pretend you like to do it and want to do it and you'll find it's a lot easier than if you do it grudgingly and complaining all the way.

Nick left last night, so things should be more or less back to normal. Poor guy. We have a very small airport here - like only one "gate." He had a can of foot powder in... Thu, 22 Jun 2017 12:26:37 EST Summery Wednesday! Summer began yesterday. Did you notice? CalGal, I'm sure you did!

Today is supposed to be about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. 86 vs 97. Much better! I am so glad that I live in a desert, so it does cool off at night.

Dentist appointment at 7:45 this morning, then Nick and Russell and I are going to go over and walk through the wetlands. I mentioned seeing red winged blackbirds there, and Nick said he hasn't seen any of those for decades. It's just a very short walk ... Wed, 21 Jun 2017 08:40:22 EST Triumphant Tuesday! What have you or will you triumph over today? Big or small, all triumphs count. Did you smile your snarky co-worker instead of being snarky back? Did you pass up the donuts/cookies/candy/junk food at the office or that your spouse or kids brought into the house? Did you exercise when you really want to just veg out? Be triumphant today!

One of my longer-term goals over on the monthly challenge thread is to get in one 20,000 fitbit step day before the end of summer. Well, I got it i... Tue, 20 Jun 2017 09:25:22 EST Marvelous Monday! (Can you tell I'm retired?!)

It looks to be a beautiful day today. Hot, but sunny and low humidity. My brother arrived last night and he and Mom are coming over for supper and to hang a few pictures. Mom does not like my bare walls! They don't bother me, but they definitely bother her.

It's delightfully cool now, so Russell and I had better get out walking!

Hope it's a mauvelous day for you, too! Mon, 19 Jun 2017 10:08:00 EST Thanks to all the dads Sunday! Don't think we have very many men who read our daily threads, but thanks to all of the dads out there! And to the women who have to be or have had to be both Mom and Dad to their kids, too.

A busy day today. I've got the chicken broth I was going to can last night in the pressure canner as I write. I'll take Russell out for a walk while the pressure is releasing, then go over to Mom's and finish cleaning up there. I also have beef broth that needs to be canned. My brother comes in ... Sun, 18 Jun 2017 10:45:04 EST Saturday I'm so mad at Russell! I had just finished cooking the first of a batch of great big fluffy pancakes, cooked in bacon fat, and had slathered on the nice soft butter and was pouring on the maple syrup when he woke me up. I rarely dream about food, but boy, did that one ever seem real! Especially the bacon. I could smell the bacon so clearly. It's probably a good thing he woke me up before I got the first bite. As real as that dream was, I'll bet even the dream pancakes and syrup would have bee... Sat, 17 Jun 2017 09:46:35 EST FEISTY Friday! Get UP! YYYiiippppeeeee! Debb's picture on FaceBook was appreciated so that I now can put a face to her journey!

I miss getting the exercise emails from Sparks!

Verlo picks up my mattress between 8:15-9:30 am. Returns it between 11:30-12:30. I'll need to cancel my facial.

Horse Pull tonight! I love those Beasts. WOW! Energy! Energy! Lost 5# of the 18# I gained over vacation! Get Energy Flowing! Yyyiiippppeeee! Hugs

Fri, 16 Jun 2017 08:20:31 EST Trying Better Thursday Test to see if a new Thread gets to Team Members. I still haven't received my daily exercise or notices of other Posts to Team Threads. Hugs Thu, 15 Jun 2017 07:24:24 EST Wednesday Have a great day, everyone! I was just thinking of "T" words and that phrase popped into my mind.

It's warmer today - all the way up to 65! Of course, the average for the day is about 80. And we're supposed to get about 3/4 of an inch of rain. Which is good for the gardens.

My leaf lettuce is doing great and my kale suddenly took off. Things like tomatoes and eggplants and peppers and squash haven't really taken off yet. They need more warm weather and time... Tue, 13 Jun 2017 11:18:48 EST Whole30 vis a vis Low carb I have just spent two weeks adopting the lifestyle Whole30. And I did not loose a lb.
My daughter is having success with it, but for me, because currently I am minimally active (surgery 12 days ago), those nasty carbs still bite my (well you know).

This body of mine doesn't care where the carbs come from, the results seem the same. So back on the high protein, low carb diet for me.

But will bring in more whole foods...looking forward to jumping and running again.... Mon, 12 Jun 2017 11:21:21 EST Done my 2 week induction... Hi everyone! I am a serial restarter, but this time its sticking :) I finished my 2 week induction and I am down 10.8 pounds :) I feel fantastic, no more bloating or lethargy, and the cravings are gone. I have been around carrot cake, cupcakes, treats etc, and I am more than ok...The weight loss is a bonus compared to the energy I have now. Just thought I would update you all :)

Kim Mon, 12 Jun 2017 09:01:56 EST Monday Monday Monday Good morning everyone. Have to share what happened yesterday but first some background. You all know I train and compete in dog sports. When we earn a title we are expected to bring a treat to our training class to celebrate. Mostly the treats are deadly sweet, lovingly homemade and delicious. I just ignore what goes on in the small kitchen and concentrate on training. Yesterday a friend brought her treat and made a point of having me try some of it—BRIE and GRAPES! She and her husband have d... Mon, 12 Jun 2017 08:28:04 EST Sunday--Y YIIPPPEEE ! Get up--get out--get joyous (or something that works for you). Hugs! Sun, 11 Jun 2017 09:02:23 EST Stay Still, Please, Sunday Those stupid "featured videos," that is. Grrrrr! I think SP has finally made the ads obnoxious enough that I'm going to pay for premium just to avoid the videos. They really slow down my old computer and for some reason aren't blocked by my adblocker software. You're the one who recommended the adblocker software, Woubbie. Do you know of something that will stop the video ads, too? I asked SP if they would show up on premium and were told they would not.

I woke up this morning sore... Sun, 11 Jun 2017 08:57:48 EST Sunny Saturday Where is everybody today?

Another hot and windy day here, high of 97 later. I went to the library to pick up a book on hold and then did my grocery shopping. I’m going to read for awhile before I tackle some house cleaning and food prep for Sunday dinner. I found a recipe for Raspberry Yogurt Cake, which isn’t really cake at all, sounds more like a cheesecake, and I’ll use Truvia instead of Splenda and that will be dessert. Something that is refreshing and hopefully nobody notices ... Sat, 10 Jun 2017 14:55:49 EST Fantastic Friday! I seem to be whooshing in lots of ways! Yesterday evening the dog slipped down beside me in my chair and I didn't even notice. It wasn't tight at all. And then a neighbor asked me how much weight I've lost, said that it really showed, and said that I'm walking a lot faster. And this morning I was down 1.8 pounds from yesterday, and yesterday was a new low. And I'm already below my mini goal for June 30.

Actually, it's not a mini goal at all. One of my goals over on the monthly cha... Fri, 9 Jun 2017 10:49:27 EST Thirsty Thursday We set a record high for the day yesterday - 95 degrees. Previous high was 94. Couple the heat with the very low humidity (this is a desert, after all) and my garden just slurped up the water. Me, too.

Today is supposed to be cooler. I was going to go over to Mom's first thing and take Russell and Sandy for a walk, but I need to stay home and water. Maybe tomorrow. Though tomorrow is supposed to be a lot cooler so I could go over later.

I missed two ant bites the other ... Thu, 8 Jun 2017 09:12:05 EST Great discussion of ketosis from Mark Sisson He's promoting a new book, but just the promotional material alone has great info. Wed, 7 Jun 2017 19:52:10 EST Weary Wednesday Got up about 6:00 and fed Russell and let him out, and then we both went back to bed. Don't know about him, but I slept soundly until about 7:45, then dozed in bed until about 8:15. I guess I needed it.

It's supposed to get up to 96 today, and sunny. We get pretty intense sun around here, since it's a desert and the humidity is really low. Guess Russell and I should get out now for our walk since it will be too hot later.

Have a wonderful day, everyone! Wed, 7 Jun 2017 10:45:59 EST Terrific Tuesday Not much going on today. ESL this morning, then this afternoon I'm taking Magadelena (Bakomeza's grandmother, who was in the hospital last week) for a follow up appointment with her doctor. I'll check with B afterwards and see what this week's assignments are in her online class. There's a political meeting tonight, too. But it will be a terrific day because I shall make it so!

It didn't start out that way, though. I put soaker hose down in the new garden bed out front, and discove... Tue, 6 Jun 2017 11:13:49 EST Woubbie's Itty Bitty Little Routine (Isometrics) I was looking for something on my computer and ran across this. My file was "last modified" in 2012, though it's possible it's even older than that. Anyway, I thought I'd share it again. Without Woubbie's permission, by the way!

SIMPLEMAW asked me weeks ago about what things I did in my "Itty Bitty Little Routine" - a mostly isometric series that I do at my desk - and I meant to write it down right away, but, well, life happens. These are not particularly difficult, especially if y... Mon, 5 Jun 2017 13:58:08 EST Motivated Monday! I had an absolutely wonderful day off yesterday! It was an official day off, an official I-Don't-Have-To-Do-Anything Day and I enjoyed every minute. Actually, it wasn't all that different from a regular day, other than the feeling that I was completely free. Attitude is so important!

I'm back on track today, though. Not that I was really "off" track yesterday. The one requirement for the day was that I not eat off plan. But I'm back on track with exercise and eating veggies and eat... Mon, 5 Jun 2017 10:29:42 EST Syncopated Sunday? Syncopation - a shifting of the normal accent, usually by stressing the normally unaccented beats

How about it? Are you having a syncopated Sunday? Or does life in general seem syncopated at the moment? It's not necessarily a bad thing. I guess it depends on whether the "normally unaccented" events/thoughts/feelings are the good ones!

Why not put a bit of syncopation in your life today? Find something you don't usually do or think or feel and put some emphasis on it. Wh... Sun, 4 Jun 2017 09:54:18 EST Summery Saturday! I know, summer doesn't officially begin until the middle of June, but the high today is supposed to be 91 here and that is definitely summery! And anyway, meteorological summer begins the first of June. And women can wear white shoes and white pants anytime after Memorial Day!

No real plans for the day. I need to go to Winco and I want to go to the Farmers Market and see if the Master Gardener folks are there today. I have a couple of questions about my garden - like what's eating... Sat, 3 Jun 2017 09:12:12 EST Animal products only.. At the beginning of June, I started a meat based diet. The site on FB was Zero Carb Health, although they do allow carbs, but only from animal sources, such as cheese, and eggs.. the rest is just meat.

I have been doing LC for the past few years, and recently saw some weight creep back on, so I knew I could see some good results based on having put on some water weight. My breathing had started to become a problem again, and sleeping at night was hit or miss, depending on whether ... Sat, 3 Jun 2017 05:49:24 EST Fantastic Friday! Got the day off to a great start. Fantastic, as a matter of fact! Russell got me up about 7:00, and got right up and planted that new bed out front. It's a lot bigger than I thought it was! I was sure I had way too many plants, but they all fit in just right. I planted two spaghetti squash, one honeydew melon, a pattypan squash, a zucchini, two peppers, six "early" cabbages and six regular cabbages. Plus lined both sides of the bed with a total of 17 marigolds (one 6 pack only had five plants... Fri, 2 Jun 2017 12:34:32 EST June Grocery Budget Challenge Has your grocery budget got you down? Wish you could control it a bit better? If so, please join us on our June Grocery Budget Challenge! It's a make-you-own-challenge kind of a challenge. Mostly just posting about how we're doing on whatever our own grocery budget happens to be. It's different for everyone, of course, and depends on a lot of different factors, including family size, ages, location, what you include in your grocery budget (cleaning supplies? pet food? eating out? paper goods?... Thu, 1 Jun 2017 11:01:20 EST Thursday's for Thinking Like, think before you eat. Think about exercising, and then DO IT! Think about how you can get in some small (or big, but small is good, too) movements throughout the day. Think about how great you feel with this Way of Eating and this Way of Life! And think thankful thoughts on Thursday, too.

Today should be nice and calm. I need it! Magadelena went home yesterday, which involved about five or six hours on my part. Getting discharged from the hospital always takes so long, and ex... Thu, 1 Jun 2017 10:04:48 EST FlyLady June Challenge: Day 23 Today is Thursday: Errand Day

Zone 1: Mission #1 Thursday

Dear Friends:
We are headed into the dining room today, it is Thursday and we are going to do a Super Fling Boogie. Your mission for today is to spend 15 minutes decluttering your dining room. It does not matter what you get rid of, just get rid of anything that does not belong in the dining room. Once again start with a trash bag and toss! If you still have time, then grab things that need to be put away and... Thu, 1 Jun 2017 09:11:45 EST Wednesday Whopper---and NOT the Burger! Today is a good day to do something stupendous. Do a whopper of something. Think I will try a new recipe for ling cod and some zucchini zoodle nests, perhaps with a poached egg in the middle. Something different and wonderful Wed, 31 May 2017 10:01:32 EST wellness wednesday Hoping for healing today. Hannah woke up puking this am :( We have to leave in 2 nights to go to ETSU for the weekend for her Drumline Practice! She needs to get better! She's stressing, which isn't helping her any :(

Woke up with both eyes itching like mad. Been making fat bombs with stevia, which is questionable for me, so I guess no more stevia. the ones I made yesterday were w/o any sweetener. hoping it's not the cocoa butter (which I can use on my skin w/o any issues).... Wed, 31 May 2017 10:01:27 EST Tired Tuesday I'm dragging today. I went to bed pretty much as soon as I got back from taking Bakomeza some money so she could eat at the hospital last night, but didn't get to sleep until after 1:30. Slept really well until about 6:00, got up about 7:00. Not nearly enough sleep for me!

ESL this morning, and that's the only thing that's officially on my list for the day. I will probably go to the hospital first to check on Bakomeza and her grandmother, Magadelena, though I may just text B instea... Tue, 30 May 2017 09:37:57 EST Eating Enough and Staying within Macros - Help! I just feel so confused. Being hungry so rarely, I just about have to force myself to eat.

I love my protein foods - meat, poultry fish, eggs - but if I am to keep my caloric intake at a reasonable amount, my protein numbers end up too high. If I add fats, then my fats see over 70 or even 75%. I imagine it could even go up over 80%.

I read that if one's goal is to lose weight, fats shouldn't be so high; in fact, fat intake "should" be on the lesser end of the range. ... Mon, 29 May 2017 12:10:14 EST Monday Mischief! Okay, its a holiday. What are you doing for FUN? I don't have anything planned, so going to have to figure out a plan! Enjoy the day! Mon, 29 May 2017 08:53:15 EST Sunny Sunday! Another beautiful day here. Sunny, blue sky, high of 80. And no breeze at the moment, so I should probably be out spraying the weeds. I'm going to wait, though, since I'll be working in the garden-to-be and handling the bedding plants, and I'd hate to do that with any weed killer on me! I know, I know - gardeners do it all the time. But that's my excuse for today and I'm sticking with it!

I should be able to get the last of the rocks moved out of the area that I'm going to turn int... Sun, 28 May 2017 09:45:12 EST Stretching Saturday I’ve been reading Aging Backwards by Miranda Esmonde-White and got up this morning and did some of the stretches she illustrates. From my reading I’ve learned that strength training and repetitive cardio contracts and shortens the muscles. Over time this can cause muscle imbalance, put stress on your joints and cause compression and pain. It’s equally important to stretch and lengthen your muscles and be flexible. I’ve done a few of her short videos on Youtube and they have helped my low back... Sat, 27 May 2017 09:32:18 EST Fit Friday! Not much planned for today. Mom's CPA called last night and said her tax returns are done. We're supposed to go in at 10:30 to pick them up. That's it.

I'm still in a-fib, so I sent a message to my doctor on the patient portal thing. If I don't hear back by about noon, I'll call. In the meantime, I'm taking it really easy, which does not please Russell. He doesn't think a-fib is much of an excuse for not taking him for a walk.

It rained last night. Long and hard. At leas... Fri, 26 May 2017 09:52:48 EST Take-it-off Thursday No, not stripper. Didn't sleep well, so taking the day off work. Might as well take tomorrow too, have a mini-vacation. Thu, 25 May 2017 12:39:08 EST WoW! It's Wednesday! In my case, the WoW stands for World of Warcraft, of course. Last vacation day of the Fiscal Year. Man, I just LOVE these Wednesdays off! It's my perfect work schedule!

Not much on the big plan. Gonna try to help Max finish moving his stuff in - it always takes weeks to find homes for all his things!

I've also got a couple of little house projects I'd like to finish. A mirror that needs some decorative touches. A couple of impatiens to transplant. Some laundry and some c... Wed, 24 May 2017 10:53:47 EST Terrific Tuesday! Got almost all of my "errands" done yesterday. (What's the word for lots of little piddly things that need to be done but can mostly be done at home? They'd be errands if they involved running around all over town.) Some little ones, like paying a few bills, making some phone calls, righting a letter, printing off a few things, stuff like that. And some bigger ones like taking things to Mom and staying to play some games, two hours of moving rocks in my border, and going to Book Club and the ... Tue, 23 May 2017 10:14:37 EST Make It So Monday! I have a whole bunch of little things that I've been putting off that need to be done. Little as in things that will probably take 5 minutes or so to to (like call the dentist and schedule an appointment), not necessarily little as in unimportant. This morning I made a written list of them (as opposed to a mental quasi-list) and I'm going to get a bunch of them done! There are 9 of them that fall in the 5-minute range, and I WILL GET THEM ALL DONE TODAY! Make it so, MAW. Make it so!
<BR... Mon, 22 May 2017 10:16:19 EST Swampy Sunday It rained last night. It started after sunset and ended before sunrise. Just like Camelot. Seems to have been quite a bit of rain, too. Good for the garden and lawn, not so good for the rivers that are already flooding. But we sure do have some spectacular waterfalls when the snow is melting and it's raining and they're letting extra water out of the reservoirs to prevent or reduce later flooding!

Dinner last night was good. Kay and Kat have a salad bar at home every night with the... Sun, 21 May 2017 10:07:26 EST Superlative Saturday! The sun is shining, the sky is blue, there's little to no wind, and high today is supposed to be around 72. A wonderful day in the making!

Got a lot accomplished yesterday. Spent about an hour sweeping my patio for the first time this year. It looks so much better! I might actually use it this summer, if I keep it clean. When I went to ESL, John (the oldest boy at home) wasn't at school. Turns out that freshmen didn't have to go to school. So he came over to my house and we spent t... Sat, 20 May 2017 10:31:20 EST Modification of Nutrition on SPARKPEOPLE. Help! Hey guys! I replied on another post similar to this positing but I just want to make sure that somebody can help me with this because this part always confuses me. I just went on here and modify my carb intake to be 20g - 30g a day but how do you determine how much your fat intake should be? At the moment, it said's my fat intake is 47 - 96 grams of fat per day. Also, does counting calories and other nutrients still a priority on a Low-Carb diet, or should counting carbs and your fat intake ... Fri, 19 May 2017 23:43:59 EST Fantabulous Friday! The sun is shining, the sky is blue, there's just a slight breeze, and it's supposed to get up into the high 60s today. A fantabulous Friday indeed!

Got pretty much everything done yesterday I had planned. Won $4 at Hand and Foot, and didn't eat any of the big spread of delicious looking stuff they had out. I played with a bunch of women I hadn't seen in about two months. One of them looked me up and down and said "You are looking great!" Another looked at me puzzledly and asked, "... Fri, 19 May 2017 10:06:14 EST Thankful Thursday! Couldn't think of a good descriptor for today, so decided that it must be a good day to work on gratitude. So much to be thankful for!

I keep my calendar on my computer and tend not to look at it, though I do have it send me reminders of things. I got a call yesterday from someone asking me whether I needed a ride to Hand and Foot (Canasta) this afternoon. Oops! Forgot all about it. They serve a "light" lunch first, then cards start at 12:30. I find it's a lot easier to just eat be... Thu, 18 May 2017 09:36:15 EST Brrrrr! Wednesday And I planted my tomatoes, eggplants, basil and zucchini a couple of days ago. Not sure how cold it got last night. They were predicting a low of 34 but they were also predicting lots of wind, and wasn't windy for very long. Definitely down in the 30s, though. I put a couple of those big plastic bins/totes over the eggplants and two of the tomatoes, with a gallon of water on top to keep them from blowing away, but couldn't figure out what to put on the others. I'll go out in a couple of hours... Wed, 17 May 2017 10:04:59 EST FYI - butter on sale! Butter has been at least $3 per pound around here for several months. Occasionally $2.50 on sale.

Fred Meyers has it for $2 per pound, limit two per transaction.

I'll be stopping by several times this week! Tue, 16 May 2017 11:26:34 EST Teasing Tuesday! LOL! I need some fun and focus! My brain is going to fast and I need/want to slow it down and do one thing at a time. Lawn mower---Ugggghhhhhh! Decision on clothes to pack---breathe!

Hugs to All! What is teasing your brain? Yyyyiiippppeeee! Baby steps today! Tue, 16 May 2017 10:23:18 EST Odd and confusing Does this make sense to anyone here working strictly with low carb? It was in one of the topics I visited here in Spark. Maybe it works for some, I don't know.....I just know it would pile back on the pounds if I did it. It was for breaking plateaus. This was what was quoted........

My dietitian says to have a double carb day, which means about 400 grams of good carbs in the week. That she says is the trick and it does work.

I have 25 grams of protein and 50 grams of... Thanks to LCHF. Mon, 15 May 2017 10:55:01 EST Moving Slow Monday But MOVING! It was a long weekend but feel pretty good about it for many reasons. Had to be at the show venue by 7AM each morning and it is just over an hour away. Slept well each night--win! Learned via YouTube how to tape my knee using KT Tape and that helped immensely--win! Tiring days--there from first class in AM and the last class was after 3PM, but had between 12,000 and 16,000 steps each day--win! Took cheese sticks, cream cheese and almonds with me and ate on plan all three days (and... Mon, 15 May 2017 08:20:26 EST Stupendous Sunday! Not sure how much I'll be on for the next week or two. Headed to Kauai for a few days, some deep sea fishing, sight seeing. This is a small, very laid back island, so hoping to just chill and explore some of the local stuff. I've been continuing on target for my eating. I don't think about it a whole lot anymore. Coming up on a benchmark that I have to get past. I usually do great for about 1.5 years on ANY weight loss program I've followed. Will soon be approaching that. This time ... No one even remembers the bumper stickers that said "I Grok Spock"?

Dinner last night went quite well. Bakomeza cooked and prepared everything, with just some (OK, a lot!) of supervision from me. She liked the roasted chicken, was ok with the baked and buttered sweet potato, tolerated the roasted veggies, and wanted to skip the salad completely. She was amazed when I told her that that used to be a standard evening meal in America - a ... Sat, 13 May 2017 10:10:00 EST Grok Friday! The "word of the day" today is grok. Anyone else remember it from Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land? A few memorable quotes -

“I do know that the slickest way to lie is to tell the right amount of truth--then shut up.”

“If you've got the truth you can demonstrate it. Talking doesn't prove it.”

“I never do anything I don't want to do. Nor does anyone, but in my case I am always aware of it.”

One thing that probably everyone groks is Friday! Fri, 12 May 2017 11:45:21 EST Yyyyiiipppeeee! Thursday! I got to show up to do IT all over again! Lucky! Lucky! Hugs to surround us with Energy to LIVE! Thu, 11 May 2017 07:42:30 EST Wednesday Off to jury selection! Wish me luck, though I'm not sure what that means. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. The trial is supposed to last one to two weeks, which I assume means something big. Wed, 10 May 2017 09:29:33 EST Tuesday Where is everyone? It's after noon even here in the west, and no thread started for today.

Took Mariam in for an Upper G.I. Endoscopy (a licensed driver over 18 had to stay there the whole time) this morning. She had to be there at 7 a.m. I had to get up much too early!

Nothing else planned for the day, besides the usual Russell Walk(s). Maybe some gardening. And housework. Always housework to do, especially since I seldom do it.

Kitty, good luck with your su... Tue, 9 May 2017 14:51:39 EST MIA Monday? Are there any members who haven't posted recently that you miss? How about sending them a SparkMail and tell them you miss them? A quick "I miss you, hope all is well with you" type of SparkMail has brought me back into the fold on many an occasion. Whether it's just the gentle reminder or the knowledge that we matter to someone else, it can really make a difference. Mon, 8 May 2017 09:41:48 EST meal and snack suggestions I am hoping I can get some help. I am struggling with getting back on track. Last year I lost 37 lbs in about 3 or 4 months but I had a few issues in my life that I allowed to get me off track
but am working on getting back to where I was before with my WOE however in the last month I developed high blood pressure I believe it is because I was eating mostly processed food (Atkins drinks, bars and frozen dinners) and now my BP just won't budge.
I am working on getting daily exerci... Sun, 7 May 2017 10:44:08 EST Unsolicited Diet Advice Anyone? I was at a games night last night with two other couples. One woman a former co-worker of mine and an overall really nice lady is in school to be a registered dietitian. I had made some small vegan muffin tops for the occasion. my hubby is a vegan and I only had one.
Ingredients: Almond milk, GF flour, rhubarb, coconut oil, dates, psyllium husk, chia seeds, walnuts, cinnamon, baking powder, salt and baking soda.

I got some compliments on them from the group which is alway... Sun, 7 May 2017 10:25:03 EST Springlike Sunday Not necessarily in the "best" sense, but definitely springlike. It rained yesterday and last night and is wet and gray and windy today. But that's ok. I live in a desert and rain is good.

Had a good day yesterday and will have a good day today! Nothing on the calendar.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the May flowers that the April showers brought! Sun, 7 May 2017 10:19:22 EST Allergic... to carbs? So I noticed something tonight. Yesterday my back didn't hurt much at all - totally great day - best in nearly a year!

Tonight I ate some hot dogs that were apparently not low carb. I didn't think about my cafeteria changing brands of their hot dogs but apparently these have 20g carbs each! Holy crapola!!

Well just about 20min after eating these, I began to have super bad back pain.

When I was eating low carb even for just one day, my back pain would diminish... Sat, 6 May 2017 07:36:33 EST Sensible Saturday I was going to say that yesterday (Friday) was a day of bad choices, but when I got to thinking about it, there were really only a few bad choices. A couple of them were humdingers, but it was still just a few. Mostly I made good choices all day long. And I will go back to making good choices today! In fact, I've already done so, by realizing that yesterday wasn't all that bad. And I (me, myself - it's hard to put "I" in all caps) wasn't bad. I just made some bad choices. Absolutely nothing t... Sat, 6 May 2017 03:12:24 EST Finally Friday This post is all about Bakomeza and her problems, so feel free to skip it.

Bakomeza and her support system (parents, me, Refugee Center/school liaison, maybe brother and/or BIL) are meeting with the principal at 12:30. She has to either ask to be allowed back in school to finish the semester (though it may be too late - they may say she was out for too long unexcused) or withdraw. Period. End of discussion. I have no idea what she's going to say, but it's her decision.

I... Fri, 5 May 2017 09:43:48 EST Thrilling Thursday! What a glorious day we've been given! As Connie says, we all have another chance at IT! Hurray for all of us!

(Fortunately, I'm up and awake and have been as I write this. Too much upness can be really hard to take until one is really with it for the day!)

Not much planned for today. The guy comes this evening to give me a quote and show me some samples for new siding. I need to go over and read Bakomeza the riot act and see if that does any good. Everyone has been tryi... Thu, 4 May 2017 09:45:21 EST Winning Wednesday! 'Cuz we're all winning in the improve your health category! Just being here is a win!

I take Mariam in for a CT scan this morning, then probably over to Mom's to work on her freezer and to walk Sandy this afternoon. The lawn needs mowed, too, and the dishes need washed, and it must be time to do laundry because I'm almost out of undies. Lots to do today, but none of it difficult or critical. A good day. Wed, 3 May 2017 08:58:04 EST Insomnia Tuesday I woke up at 02:30, about an hour and a half ago, and no sign of wanting to sleep more. I know I need more sleep, but not looking good. The killer is that for the last several work days, I've been literally dozing off in the afternoons. I went to sleep fairly easily last night, but now it's gone.

So I figured, what the hey, I'll just get up and do something tedious for a while. And start the daily thread. Tue, 2 May 2017 07:01:25 EST May Grocery Budget Challenge Another month, another Grocery Budget Challenge! So, how have you been doing with your food budget? Is it under control? Out of control? I was excited to find I've hit 61 pounds gone on Keto! :) Tried on my board shorts this weekend. They were terribly tight when I got them, now they are just slightly tight. Got a cool outfit for The Band Banquet on Friday. I need to hem it, but it's a pants outfit, sleeveless, and it's the Star Wars Brand! :) so that's exciting. My daughter said "you are going to make all the moms jealous!"

Focus this week: eating more veggies. I pre... I’m getting a little too high-spirited here. Let me put on my professor hat.

58

Aristotle looked at soul and consciousness as having three “elements”: Reason, Spirit, and Desire. Sun, 30 Apr 2017 13:21:20 EST Symbiotic Sunday! Symbiotic: denoting a mutually beneficial relationship between different people or groups

That's us, right? Definitely a mutually beneficial relationship between and among us. Doesn't matter if I'm having a good day or a bad day, if I'm just breezing through this Way of Eating and Way of Life or having a really rough time of it, it helps me to tell you about it. And whether you're having a good day or a bad day, if you're just breezing through this WOE and WOL or having a really ro... Sun, 30 Apr 2017 09:49:54 EST Sick Saturday Not me. Russell. My dog. He threw up in the bed this morning. About 5:30, which is really last night. Except when a dog throws up in your bed, you tend to get up. At least I did. Can't even go back to bed, since the sheets and the mattress pad are in the washer. The sheets are no problem, but the heavy quilted mattress pad is a real pain to wash. And much much worse to dry! However, I heard him throw up, so didn't find out about it accidentally, and I got it cleaned up immediately, and it was... Sat, 29 Apr 2017 08:16:42 EST Phantasm agorical Friday! phantasmagorical: having a fantastic or deceptive appearance, as something in a dream or created by the imagination. 2. having the appearance of an optical illusion, especially one produced by a magic lantern. 3. changing or shifting, as a scene made up of many elements.

Of course, we're interested in the first and third definitions. As in, SAD is phantasmagorical using the first definition. And our diets (in the general sense of what we eat, not in the restrictive sense) and our W... Fri, 28 Apr 2017 10:24:21 EST Thoughts on fiber? I am not concerned about "going", I don't usually have too many problems there, but I find I stall when I don't eat veggies (aka salad or celery, etc), but like yesterday I just didn't want any (it was a stressful day at work). I know there are no essential carbs, but find it interesting that I lose as I eat veggies, and stall when I don't... so it has to be the fiber?

Some people use oat fiber for cooking (not sure I want to go there, it makes me nervous with my allergies), but I... Fri, 28 Apr 2017 09:56:15 EST 10 pounds gone :) I finally hit the 10 pound mark yesterday :) I have been trying intermittent fasting and that seems to have helped. One more pound to my first goal!! Fri, 28 Apr 2017 09:01:02 EST Thoughtful Thursday! On the one hand, it's great when this way of life becomes so automatic, so second nature, that we don't have to think about it at all. It's just the way we eat and the way we live. On the other hand, not thinking about it can lead to carb creep, to slight strayings from our path, and to missing insights along the way.

What can you think about or pay attention to that will help you on your journey to recovery and health?

Darn it! I wrote the above without really thinking ... Thu, 27 Apr 2017 09:58:02 EST Wondrous Wednesday! (Can you tell that I've been strongly influenced by Connie? Yiiippppeeee!)

I do love your spirit, Connie, and I'm glad it's infectious.

Nothing on the calendar for today except taking Bakomeza to DMV to take the test so she can get a learner's permit. I need to talk to her about it, though. She said that interpreters are allowed, and I think she wants me to interpret the test questions, from English to English. Not sure that's what they have in mind. I'll talk to DMV, t... Wed, 26 Apr 2017 10:24:41 EST 4 days into this, and I need a little help. Hi all, this is my fourth day in, and I already have a problem. But just so you know, I have been around the block for some years now. Thanks to a grastic bypass five years ago,I have had some success. I found myself slipping into the carbs and redirected this into the low carb diet. I am also hoping that I can loose the 30 lbs I gained back (plus another 20).

is the problem, I need potassium. I get nasty cramping in toes and legs if I do not get it. Pickles and b... Tue, 25 Apr 2017 16:38:37 EST Tolerant Tuesday! How 'bout it? Just how tolerant are you? Of yourself, that is! Do you accept yourself, with all your faults and foibles, all your talents and skills? You're pretty special, you know, just as you are!

Yesterday was sort of a bust, what with spending the day at the hospital with Mariam. It actually went pretty well, though. Bakomeza decided to take the day off from school to be with her mom, though she wasn't actually with her mom much of the time. We had to be there two hours before... Tue, 25 Apr 2017 10:28:29 EST Monday Magic! The magic happens cuz hubby goes back to work today after taking the last few days off!! Woo hoo!! I don't know what I'll do when he retires and is home all the time......sigh. And I used to look forward to his retirement. Oh, well. A couple more years to figure out what is going to happen on this front.
Last nites dinner was light. Poached some eggs in boullion and that was it. It was very tasty and could easily be my breakfast. I did retain more fluid last nite and am pretty ... Mon, 24 Apr 2017 08:37:42 EST Serendipitous Sunday! What a great day today! It's supposed to warmish (64), the sun is shining (or was a minute ago), and it rained early this morning so I can't dig dandelions!

And you know that old theory about calories in equals calories out? Well, when you're eating low carb, the calories go out in ways other than just exercise, so more calories can go in than "they" say are going out. Way to go, low carb!

I slept really well last night. Like until 8:30 this morning. And Russell let me,... Sun, 23 Apr 2017 11:08:00 EST Super Duper Saturday! Sunny today, high of 67. A glorious day!

Or maybe I should have called it Science Saturday. There will be Marches for Science all over the country and the world today. I'll be in one, myself. First time I've ever "marched" for something. No idea what to expect.

This afternoon I'm taking Bakomeza's brother, John (it's really some long hard name and he decided he'd rather go with John) to Mom's house to weed the garden. We'll see how it goes. I'm sure Bakomeza would be ha... Sat, 22 Apr 2017 09:15:06 EST Freakin' Great Friday! Happy Friday, everyone! And it's going to be a great one, right? Let's make it so!

I'll have to work it during my free time today. ESL this morning, then someone is coming over to measure the house this afternoon for new siding. It desperately needs replaced. One of the things I knew when I bought the place a couple of years ago. A Russell Walk or two and some housekeeping before the siding guy gets here. And that's about it for my day, in terms of formal planned stuff.

... Fri, 21 Apr 2017 09:28:31 EST Thirsty Thursday! Got to work to get in lots of water today. Or other liquids like home made bone broth or tea or herbal tea, but water is best. I definitely see a difference on the scale when I drink more water.

Hand and Foot (Canasta) all afternoon. They'll serve a "light lunch" but I'll eat at home before I go. I find that it's a lot easier to just not eat anything at something like this than to only eat the right things. Even if I know that there are right things to eat. It's much easier to make... Thu, 20 Apr 2017 09:24:55 EST Motivation! What do you do to motivate yourself? Hi guys! So I desperately need some motivation. I completely lost control today on my Low Carb Diet, which I should have no reason to do terribly at all because all I really have is Salad, Vegetables, and tons of protein in my Refrigerator and Freezer. I was wondering, how do you motivate yourself to stay on a Low Carb Diet? What do you do on a daily basis to stay within your routine? I also could use words of encouragement as well :) Wed, 19 Apr 2017 19:20:18 EST How do you stay within your budget on Low Carb? Hi everybody! So I started on a Low Carb, High Fat diet but I feel like I am having trouble budgeting during the week. On Saturday, I bought everything that I would need for my Low Carb Diet and my boyfriend and I ended up spending 179 dollars on food for just the week. Now, I know most of this food is probably for me because David has his bread and his pasta, and I am all about the protein, vegetables and salad but I was wondering, for those who are Low-Carbing it especially, how do you budg... Wed, 19 Apr 2017 19:16:16 EST WHatzup Wednesday!! Whats on your *plate* today? I'm going to the casino with some new friends from my new neighborhood! This is just a ladies day and I'm really looking forward to it! I haven't developed friends in the last 20 years and am so in need of a ladies support system. Very new for me and a positive thing!~
Food wise I'm on track! Have been losing slowly and just a couple pounds from my low two years ago and then moving on down. Just 20 or so left to go before I reassess, but really don... Wed, 19 Apr 2017 10:02:20 EST Terrific Tuesday! How's your mom doing, Leslie? How are YOU doing?

Yesterday started out raining, but it quit by about 8 am and was mostly sunny the rest of the day Bakomeza and I got in about an hour and a half of digging weeds. She's from Uganda, you know, and didn't understand why I was having her dig up all those pretty yellow flowers in the lawn! She pointed out how much prettier the lawn was where she hadn't dug up the flowers.

It's raining again today, but I think it means it. Look... Tue, 18 Apr 2017 10:12:47 EST Quiet Monday It's gray and drizzling today, a good day to just putz around the house. Which sound delightful, actually. I think the drizzle is supposed to stop this afternoon, though, so I may get out and do something. Don't know what.

Easter dinner was nice. The casserole turned out ok, as did my Tomato Tulips. Took Sandy and Russell for a short walk. Mom says that Sandy is having trouble getting into the car. She's definitely old and slowing down but still loves to go for walks. I've been tr... Mon, 17 Apr 2017 10:02:56 EST Eagerly Easter! A Happy and Blessed Easter to all for whom Easter is a special holy day. And a happy and blessed Sunday to everyone!

Had a good time at the Easter Egg Hunt yesterday. Then we went to the Falls ("The Niagara of the West") and then to the animal shelter. I think the kids had fun. I did, anyway. The egg decorating, which would have been with a different bunch of people, didn't happen. Turns out someone was coming over to help them with their Green Card applications, which was definite... Sun, 16 Apr 2017 10:06:19 EST Sunny Saturday Hope your day is as sunny as mine! :) it's so pretty out today! We are going to be smoking a beef brisket today, so nervous! I will be cleaning the kitchen/doing some prep cooking since tomorrow is Easter and will be busy most of the day
Sat, 15 Apr 2017 09:52:43 EST Sunny Saturday! High of 56, but sunny and nice out. Which is a good thing, since there's an Easter Egg Hunt at City Park this morning. They're dividing kids 0 - 10 into four or five age groups, and hiding 1000 candy-filled plastic eggs for each group! Not sure how they'll organize it, but will find out. I'm taking my Iraqi friend Marwah and her 2 and 3 year olds.

This afternoon I'm taking a bunch of hard-boiled eggs over to my Congolese family and teaching them how to die Easter Eggs. Also taking... Sat, 15 Apr 2017 09:45:51 EST Frustrating Friday It's 3 a.m. and I've been awake for 45 minutes with no getting back to sleep in sight. No clue why. Maybe I'll go take a hot bath. Fri, 14 Apr 2017 06:00:06 EST Thinner Thursday Maybe, or maybe not. If the scale is moving down, Way to Go! If not, remember all the health benefits of our way of eating. And all the yummy, delicious "unhealthy" foods we get to eat guilt-free! There's a lot more to eating low carb than what the scale says.

High yesterday was 71. High today is supposed to be 53. Sigh. And it's supposed to rain later today and tomorrow. High tomorrow of 43. Sure am glad I got the backyard mowed yesterday, and spent another hour or so digging weed... Thu, 13 Apr 2017 10:16:55 EST Wishful Wednesday! That is, hoping that your day is full of wishes that come true! Which is actually the definition of wishful, but that's how I'm using it today!

Absolutely positively nothing on my calendar for today. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Wonderful!

It's supposed to get up to 70 today, and the sun is shining, which should make it a good day to get out and dig dandelions. Lots of dandelions. LOTS of dandelions! Also, of course, a couple of Russell Walks. Who knows, I might even walk over to... Wed, 12 Apr 2017 10:02:41 EST Tantalizing Tuesday Hope your day is Tantalizing!

having or exhibiting something that provokes or arouses expectation, interest, or desire, especially that which remains unobtainable or beyond one's reach:

I am going to try a new recipe today, and pretty excited about it! ;) I can't wait to see how it tastes and if it works well with my allergies! :) Tue, 11 Apr 2017 08:59:43 EST Frustrated Remember I said there was a challenge at work - that everyone who wanted to particpate, paid an entry fee and winner took all?

Well, I've been doing my "thang" and weighing in at work and what have you, but I haven't heard anything at work. I contacted the person who is responsible for this and she said the challenge was supposed to end before Spring Break but another teacher wants to continue until the end of the school year! The nurse, however, says that I'm the only one weighing... Mon, 10 Apr 2017 17:25:32 EST Electrifying Monday! In a good way, I hope!

There's a yellow light on one of the GFCI outlets in the kitchen. It came on when I plugged in my Instant Pot, and the IP didn't come on. I moved the IP to a different outlet, and it worked fine for a while then quit. As did the lights on the microwave and the stove. I tried to find the circuit breakers for the kitchen - especially the GFCI outlet - but that outlet seems to be on the same breaker as the fridge. I'm hoping to get Terry to come over today and ... Mon, 10 Apr 2017 10:24:14 EST Splendid Sunday! The sun is shining, there's a robin right outside my window, and I feel much better than I did yesterday. What a splendid day! Sun, 9 Apr 2017 09:54:24 EST Commitment I am making a commitment to track three meals a day this week. I need to figure out what calorie range and carb/protein/fat percentages work best for me. And I need accountability :) Sun, 9 Apr 2017 09:00:25 EST Surely I'll be stupid Saturday Another power outage sent me to bed with the sunset, then woke me by coming back on shortly after 11. Now I can't get back to sleep.

These power outages plus the resulting insomnia are going to kill me
Sat, 8 Apr 2017 04:33:33 EST Frightful Friday Just got an emergency alert about the high wind warning, schools canceled and people advised not to travel. Power has been out for at least an hour, and I can't get back to sleep. Fri, 7 Apr 2017 08:28:35 EST Thankful Thursday Isn't it odd that the more we have to be thankful for, the harder it is to see them? How about it, what are you thankful for today?

Among the things I'm thankful for today are my health, knees in pretty good shape, Russell (my dog), getting my taxes done today for free (and finding my SS card last night!), and, of course, all of you!

Taxes this morning, then over to Mom's to take her to Grocery Outlet (3 lbs blueberries for $3.50!), and probably Alberston's (24 oz mushro... Thu, 6 Apr 2017 10:17:38 EST Weather Wednesday Hear it's supposed to be bad some places. DB#1 said the rain was coming down 4 to 5 inches per hour yesterday, with winds 40 - 50 mph. DB#2 said they had 10 inches of rain in 10 hours. Ugh. Stay safe, everyone!

High today here of 67, light wind, blue skies. I'll take living in a desert! Tue, 4 Apr 2017 10:56:03 EST Monday Made a big batch of bone broth yesterday. It's still working away, actually. I put some bones I'd saved in the freezer (chicken and pork and maybe some turkey) in my Instant Pot and have had it simmering away for about 16 hours now. I'll give it several more hours. I'm having a big mug of it for breakfast. I even added some plain gelatin powder to it for some extra oomph. Anyone remember back about three or four years when the thing was to have gelatin every day? Not Jello, but just plain old... Mon, 3 Apr 2017 09:41:08 EST Excellent podcast I think I mentioned this podcast a while back that I was listening to about gut health. It was so informative that I wanted to share it in case it can help someone. It's two parts. You can follow these links and scroll to the bottom of the page to listen (the text is just an overview), or if you have a podcast app on your phone like Stitcher you can search for The Chalene Show and find the episodes with Dr. Zach Bush. Don't be intimidated by the length. I like to listen to podcasts in the mor... Sun, 2 Apr 2017 16:31:40 EST Sincerely Sunday! I guess I put most of you off by calling yesterday's thread Sunday. Hope to get more activity today.

Nothing planned for today except a long hot steamy shower. And a Russell Walk. I'm feeling a bit better, but still get very tired very quickly.

Was going to go out and dig dandelions today, but it involves sitting on the ground and not a good idea since it rained a bit overnight.

Down .4 pound for the week, which I consider a big success since I know that my ... Sounds like a perfect month to focus on tracking and accountability!
248
Not surprisingly, Truthfulness as a virtue is very similar to what we modern folk call Self-Esteem. At one extreme is Boastfulness and the other extreme is Mock Modesty.

But where Self-Esteem is about being accurate about understanding who you are and how you live, Truthfulness is about Accountability.
... Sat, 1 Apr 2017 10:52:41 EST Suddenly Sunday! And not a single thing on the calendar for today! Well, except that Terry will be coming over to nail a couple of shingles back on the roof. It was a rough winter.

I hadn't planned on grocery shopping until Wednesday, when the new ads come out,, but may go today. I need more veggies to make more chicken soup. I could probably squeak by, especially with a quick visit to Mom to get some veggies out of her freezer. We'll see how energetic I feel later.

Debb, I remember you... Sat, 1 Apr 2017 09:43:18 EST Finally Friday!!!! Hope everyone had a good week! Been really focusing on food and getting some exercise (did WATP 3 miles again last night) and am rewarded with the scale finally moving down. I also cut out alcohol, so maybe that was a big part of my stall. Will see what monday brings

This weekend is super busy. To bed about 7;30 tonight (I hope!) up at 1:30 out of the house by 2 am, to drive to a college for a tour and we have to be there by 8;30. We are both stressing as it's in a different t... Fri, 31 Mar 2017 09:47:12 EST Thursday Gee, thanks, ladies! All that talk about being sick and all. You must be contagious. Now I've got it! Or something, anyway. I think it's just a cold.

I had a haircut scheduled for this morning but I think I'll cancel it. Not fair to Sherry to be breathing germs in her face.

Bakomeza texted me this morning about 6:00 to say her mom doesn't feel good. Says she's running a fever and has a headache. I'll go over this morning. She had her spleen removed last year and I know... Thu, 30 Mar 2017 09:24:28 EST Wonderful Wednesday! Not much special going on today. I'll take Mariam to the doctor this afternoon. I'm teaching her how to take the free transportation, but she's not comfortable with that because she doesn't speak much English. But we're working on it.

The wonderful part (or one wonderful thing, anyway, but I'm sure there are many) of today is that Terry is going to come over and patch my roof. A couple of shingle tabs blew off in the rough weather this winter. The wonderful part of that is that I h... Wed, 29 Mar 2017 10:59:56 EST Small Weight Gain... Hi All;

I started LCHF about 3 weeks ago. I lost 7 pounds the first 10 days :) I saw a reference to 'The Diet Doctor', checked out the website, and decided to try the 2 week challenge, starting with dinner last Sunday (Mar 26). I also had some white wine the same day. Monday morning my weight was up 2 pounds and won't budge.
Was it the wine? The very high fat on the challenge (everything seems to be swimming in butter and heavy cream) ? Or am I just impatient??
Wed, 29 Mar 2017 09:41:32 EST Typical Tuesday Nothing much planned for today. Which is not a bad thing at all! ESL this morning, then stop at Albertson's and pick up a few things for Mom, then over to her house to walk her dog. Hand and Foot (Canasta) this afternoon, then I'll probably give Bakomeza a ride home so she can help me talk with her parents. Maybe there's more planned for today than I thought!

However a typical a Tuesday it is, let's all see what we can do to make it a Super Tuesday! (But without all of the electio... Tue, 28 Mar 2017 10:01:10 EST Special Monday! Special for me, anyway, because it's my birthday! I hope it's special for you, too, but you'll have to find your own reason.

Book Club this noon, at Perkins. I'll probably have an omelet with salad/and veggies. Or I might just have a big salad. Something on plan, anyway.

Mom's taking me out to dinner tonight. Not sure where. I'm thinking prime rib sounds pretty good. I'll ask around at noon and see if anyone has any suggestions.

Other than that, a Russell Wal... Mon, 27 Mar 2017 09:42:26 EST Sleepy Sunday Not sure what's going on, but I have my suspicions.

Got to bed last night about 10:30, which wasn't easy. I probably would have just stayed in my chair all night if the overhead light weren't on. Woke up about 6:30 to go potty and turn on the heat, then right back to sleep. Russell woke me up about 8:00. I fed him and put him out and then back in and right back to sleep. Woke up about 11:00, more or less ready to get up. I did get up, anyway, ready or not.

Something sim... Sun, 26 Mar 2017 14:25:51 EST Joining Just wanted to introduce myself. Today is day 3 for me on a low-carb lifestyle. This is not the first time that I've done low-carb but it's been decades since I've been low-carb. This time it's doctor prescribed. Sat, 25 Mar 2017 21:40:43 EST Newbie to HFLC - I love carbs-need to lose weight Hi everyone, I am 43 years old and I have been trying to eat what I have considered "healthy", but I can't seem to lose any weight and keep it off. I'm terrified to eat so much fat, but I don't know what else to do. I need some encouragement that eating HFLC will actually help me lose weight. I'm also worried about carb cravings. Can anyone give me some insight? Books to read or forums to join to enlighten me? Thank you so much.

Stephanie
184 Sat, 25 Mar 2017 12:51:36 EST Serendipitous Saturday Isn't it great how things sometimes come together and give you fantastic results? Wed, 22 Mar 2017 11:27:09 EST Teasing Tuesday After a week or two of unseasonably warm weather (in the 70s, for crying out loud, in Winter in Idaho!), today is supposed to be our last extra warm day. High in the mid 60s today, then back down in the 50s for the rest of the week. Still warmer than normal, but a far cry from 70+.

Slept really well last night, but woke up about 5:30 and couldn't get back to sleep, so got up about 6:30. I've seen some mention of something called 'low carb 'flu'. I think I have it :/ Mild nausea, fuzzy head, slight headache and dizziness. Yesterday was worse. I'm drinking lots of water and hoping it will pass soon...I have three commitments today that I really should show up for :) Tue, 21 Mar 2017 08:39:26 EST Spring is Sprung Monday! Hurray! Of course, it's just about six weeks since Punxsutawney Phil said we'd have six more weeks of winter. He was pretty much on target around here, though the past week or so has been great.

Not much planned for today. I'm going to try to teach some of my Congolese friends about budgeting and writing checks and balancing a checkbook and things like that. I'll start today with looking at Ndenjehu's bank statements and seeing where they've been spending their money. Mostly, I thi... Mon, 20 Mar 2017 10:20:31 EST Primal advice for vegans and vegetarians Primal and low carb have a lot in common, though they get to the same place in different ways. Sun, 19 Mar 2017 21:50:01 EST Sunny Sunday It rained last night, but it's sunny today. Not sure if it rained enough to make the ground good for pulling weeds, or enough to make the ground too wet to sit on to pull weeds. We'll see. Maybe. But it's sunny at the moment.

Food was good yesterday. As in, food was on plan. Also it tasted good and was healthy and enjoyed it. Or, to put it another way, food was good! Sun, 19 Mar 2017 13:21:22 EST This shirt didn't used to fit My brother gave me this shirt two years ago (I think). It's a missus, so it fits a little different than a standard shirt does. It just didn't fit. I wore it while he was here, but I felt immensely uncomfortable in it.

Well, I wore it yesterday. As you can see by its fit, it is form fitting -, especially on the top. But I wore it - out in public, no less.

My staff is trying to co... Sun, 19 Mar 2017 08:33:43 EST New to Low-Carb! Hi Everyone :) I'm Mary, 63 yrs. old. I have been 'mostly' vegetarian for a couple of years, mainly because I just prefer veggies to meat. I have reached the point where nothing really works for weight loss. I tried Dukan Diet a few years ago and lost about 20 pounds, but went back to my old ways. So now I am hoping a more educated approach to eating low carb while remaining 'mostly' vegetarian will help me get down to a healthier weight.
I've been muddling along for about 6 days an... Sat, 18 Mar 2017 14:45:42 EST Saturday Sunshine Looks like mid 50’s today and little wind, my plan is a bike ride this afternoon and walking the dogs, hopefully get into some fat burning. Also have to get groceries and do laundry. I’ll probably procrastinate on the cleaning.

I was down 1.4 pounds this morning. It’s all water. I was up twice last night. I’m OK with that though, my right foot swells when I retain water and it’s been swollen for too long. So long water weight!

Enjoy your day, and do something to move y... Though, given the history of the Irish in the 1800/1900s, I'm not sure that's such a good thing to wish for!

Today was my tired day. Don't know why. But I could have (probably would have) stayed in bed for another hour or two or three if I hadn't known that Russell needed up and out and fed. So I got up and am staying up.

I'll take Bakomeza over to Mom's house to clean this afternoon, then bring Mom back to my house for supper. SIL ... Fri, 17 Mar 2017 11:00:31 EST The Bad Things About Eating Low Carb There's a thread for the good things, so figured it was time to hear about the bad.

1. I've had to retire my favorite sweaters because they're too big.

2. My elastic waist knit pants have turned into clown pants.

3. Thu, 16 Mar 2017 14:35:15 EST Tired Thursday So I turn my lights out at a reasonable hour, and actually go to sleep. About 45 minutes later, I hear Mom call me, sounding kind of panicked. I jump up and turn on the light, only to hear her breathing quietly on the monitor. Apparently I dreamed she needed help. Unfortunately, that shot my sleep down for the next hour and a half. Kind of draggin' today. Thu, 16 Mar 2017 11:57:00 EST Walkin' Wednesday! Supposed to be another beautiful day around here, and not much planned. Sounds like a great day for walking! I asked Russell (my dog) and he definitely agrees. Maybe we'll go down to Rock Creek Park or to the Canyon Rim Trail instead of just walking through the neighborhood.

I sure wish the appropriate people would talk to each other! My Congolese friend, Bakomeza, is 18 and a sophomore this year. She came in January of last year and was told that none of her high school credits fr... Wed, 15 Mar 2017 08:14:36 EST Timely Tuesday Got your new clock figured out yet? I woke up at about my "regular" time this morning, so I may be pretty much adapted. Or it may just be because Russell decided that he's adapted and started licking me this morning!

High today is supposed to be in the low 70s! I think the average for today is probably in the mid 40s, maybe upper 40s. Tue, 14 Mar 2017 10:00:59 EST Hello - new to Low Carbs, hoping to break plateau Hi - I've been with SP for about 2 1/2 yrs. During that time, I've lost about 90 lbs. Problem is that the last 10 lbs have taken 9 months to come off. I am totally stalled 16 lbs from my goal. I have Premium (which I like), and the SP Coach suggested that I try reducing my carbs. I'm a huge fan of whole grain anything, especially porridge. My sister swears by Atkins. The last time I tried it (about 15 yrs ago), my doctor called me after a blood test and asked, "What the heck are you doin... Hugs to all Thu, 9 Mar 2017 10:38:18 EST Brand New To SP, 2nd Week of Atkins Hi Everyone. I'm in my second week of trying the Atkins diet for the first time. I honestly cannot believe I have gone almost two weeks of no sugar and no carbs other than what's in vegetables. I am a huge bread and pasta lover. I've been online looking at different resources and came upon Sparkpeople. I'm really hoping to find others who are going through the same struggles and what you have learned, what has helped. I have a goal to lose 35 pounds and need all the help I can get! Thu, 9 Mar 2017 09:32:45 EST Need some clarification I'm on the south beach diet phase 1. I've been in it for meh 5 days or so and it's kinda hard not bad. I used to be a regular donor, but the RC says (or used to say) that you can't give blood withing 6 months of an episode of a-fib, and I usually had an episode about every 5-1/2 months. I hope they haven't changed their rules.

The blood driv... Wed, 8 Mar 2017 11:04:41 EST Eating without hunger Hi! Wed, 1 Mar 2017 10:07:27 EST Weed It Out Wednesday Weed out all the nonsense in your life ....where to start? Wed, 1 Mar 2017 08:55:17 EST Typical Tuesday Not much going on today. ESL this morning, and I might swing by Mom's afterwards for a quick game of something. I can't think of anything else that's actually scheduled or even on my radar for today.

Lunch will probably be bacon and eggs and a salad, supper will be chicken and asparagus alfredo and a salad. Isn't it terrible how we deprived we are when we eat low carb?! Tue, 28 Feb 2017 09:47:36 EST Moaning Monday I told Mom last night that I finally had all the snow and ice cleared off of my driveway. Well, except for a small patch of ice that was left from last November, buried under piles of snow, freezing and thawing and refreezing. But I was sure it would disappear today.

Well, guess what. It's snowing again.

So, added to my admittedly short list of things to do today is to shovel the sidewalk and driveway - again! - and go over and do Mom's, too. She has someone do hers, bu... Mon, 27 Feb 2017 09:51:01 EST Simply Sunday Not much planned for today. I'll probably finish shoveling the driveway (I got all but the last few feet on the other side of the driveway done yesterday. All the but the part where I'd piled up the snow I shoveled from the sidewalk on to it.) and maybe do the patio, too. Walk Russell, of course. Maybe go to church. Haven't decided on that one yet.

Lunch will probably be a big salad. I got a six-pack of romaine lettuce at Costco last week and need to start using it up. Or maybe I'... Sun, 26 Feb 2017 09:55:56 EST Steaming or Snowing Saturday? LOL! Florida 80+ degrees today. Sun screen and hats are necessary. WI needs ice grippers, shovels and gloves. Hang in there and make today fun for YOU! Hugs to surround us as a Team! Yyyyyiiippppeeee! Sat, 25 Feb 2017 09:13:32 EST Inconsistency - need help I was low carb last year and got down to a nice goal weight and then I talked myself out of it saying I don't want to live my life this way forever. Of course I have gained the 10 lb back I have been fighting since having kids. I'm struggling to lose it. Recommitted to Atkins again 2/22. Not planning on stopping ever.

I know the reasons why I eat outside of plan: 1) hangovers, 2) boredom, 3) stress, 4) eat to prevent hunger. I enjoy healthful foods and don't have cravings for bad ... Fri, 24 Feb 2017 14:32:20 EST Finally Friday Good morning, Low Carbers!

I hope this Friday finds you well.

I'm always amazed at how "hard" short weeks are. It seems like it took Friday forever to get here. But, now that it's here, I've got so much on my plate, I feel myself wanting to shut down (anyone else do that?)

But, on a plus side - I am incredibly proud of myself! Last night, we went to a local Poetry Coffeehouse hosted by the students at the high school. As you walked in, you were greeted with a... Fri, 24 Feb 2017 05:41:34 EST Thursday Weight is stuck. Wed, 22 Feb 2017 07:47:50 EST Tireless Tuesday Good morning, Low Carbers,

I ventured to the thesaurus to find an appropriate word for Tuesday. How fun! I love words; don't you?

This week proves to be a very full week for me - a fact I just realized when I sat down with my planner last night and planned for the week. Today will be a long day with After School Tutoring. Tomorrow, I'm taking my Littles into the Community for a Community Based Instruction field trip. We're heading to the post office. With four wheelchair... Tue, 21 Feb 2017 05:39:52 EST Moving Monday Good morning, Low Carbers!

Since it's a holiday, BG, TMC, and I are all home. Baby Girl and I haven't worked out in over a week. I think today is a great day to get moving!

I plan on meeting up with a friend to test drive her Element and work out an agreeable price. Mom's serving cherry pie and ice cream, and there just happens to be some sugar free ice cream left from Christmas or Thanksgiving or something. And mixed nuts. I think I'll skip the ice cream but I will have nuts.

Probably bacon and eggs and a salad for lunch. Not sure about supper. Good morning, Low Carbers!

I'm off today from school as part of a 4-day holiday. Baby Girl and I will be going into town to be officially fitted for a bra. I know from speaking to friends that it's going to be pricey, so I've set aside a chunk of change for both of us to get two. That will get us started. Then we will slowly add until we have enough for the week. (Did you know you're not suppose to wear the same bra back-to-back and a bra only has about 100 wears in it?) Aaaand I'm... Fri, 17 Feb 2017 09:42:03 EST Thursday, anyone? I woke up at 6:45 - wide awake. No drifting in or out of semi-consciousness. Weird for me but I liked it. I popped right up out of bed and was drinking coffee within 15 minutes. Priorities!

Today I have a doctor's appointment - haven't seen her in a couple of years, but I've gone to her since 1986. Thu, 16 Feb 2017 10:42:12 EST Wow Wednesday What are you doing today to put the a wow in Wednesday?

Wednesdays are notoriously long days for me. After work, we have a faculty meeting until 4. Surprisingly, with After School tutoring, I'm getting used to "late days" and they don't feel quite so late. But I think Wednesday being Hump Day (I loathe that word at times), it's Middle-of-the-Week Syndrome. You're just ready for the weekend, ya know? This week is a short week due to the Presidents' Holiday so today is more like a Th... Wed, 15 Feb 2017 05:36:35 EST Venturing Out From Lurking to Say Hello Hello, everybody! I am very new to the LC lifestyle and just as new to the group. I have been lurking around for about a week, so I thought it was about time I introduced myself.

I'm one of those "I've tried everything and finally..." people when it comes to low-carb. I had a workplace chemical burn injury in my early 20's. My skin wouldn't heal properly and they put me on some medications including prednisone. I ballooned up 100 pounds in six months... going from my ideal, health... Tue, 14 Feb 2017 06:58:52 EST Touting Tuesday I contemplated naming this thread "Totally Tuesday" - meaning today is Tuesday in every since of the word. Instead, let's tout Tuesday and make it a *good* day.

I just realized that this week is going to be crazy busy for me. Yesterday, my husband and I had a meeting in town. So, after he dropped Baby Girl off at the local vet's office (she's volunteering for a class, but also wants to be a vet after she graduated), we headed to our meeting. It took just about an hour so we trucked... Tue, 14 Feb 2017 05:51:06 EST Motivating Monday Good morning, Low Carbers!

This week (a short week for us due to President's Holiday) will be wild and hectic, for sure. I'm not nervous, upset or fidgety about it. I know what I have to do and I've mentally told myself that I just need to break this week into smaller chunks.

Prime Example: The Man Beast washed clothes while Baby Girl and I were away. I have 4 baskets of clean laundry in my bedroom that need to folded and put away (some need to be ironed because they've... Mon, 13 Feb 2017 05:52:19 EST What are you reading - Reading Challenge I'd love for you to share what you're reading. And anyway, spring weather is so variable that just about anything qualifies!

Mom and I had an adventure yesterday. Because of the flooding they're letting lots of water out of the reservoirs and into the river, so the falls are supposed to be spectacular. We just planned to go to the top of the road into the canyon and look from there, but we missed the pullout and ended up going all the way to the bottom. Or almost all the way. There were too many cars for the park... Sun, 12 Feb 2017 10:36:11 EST Reading Challenge I'm not entirely sure where this thread belongs. I know some of you have talked about dry brushing before, I just want you to know that I am seeing some good results on my loose skin with it! not where it needs to be, but boy howdy is it looking better! :) what I've been doing it doing it in the shower (my brush is more stiff, not so soft, so I soap it up and use it that way), then after I put on cocoa butter lotion. my legs are going to take more love, but I see the skin on my arms firming up quite nicely!

in case... I just woke up! (It's noon here). I was exhausted.

Some perks:

Attending the Symphony was amazing! It was fascinating to hear music played, professionally and with such sync. All the violinists, played together - same rhythm, same stroke of the bow. It was beautiful. We're a flute family, so Baby Girl and I were focused on them. I also discovered that I love the sound... Sat, 11 Feb 2017 12:41:59 EST Sunny Saturday I think it's supposed to be sunny this weekend, after most of a week of rain. Still warmish, though, so more flooding, but the sunshine is nice. The patio doors face east, and my chair faces towards the patio doors a bit, so I can really tell how the sun moves throughout the year. In the winter I have to close the blinds when it gets up above the fence, but in the summer the sun has moved so it's behind the wall instead of in front of the window. Of course, the fact that there are no leaves o... Sat, 11 Feb 2017 10:42:23 EST Freaky Friday It got to 50 yesterday and is still in the 40's...that means everything that wasn't plowed is a sheet of ice. Its ridiculous here. Fri, 10 Feb 2017 11:58:32 EST Thursday And absolutely nothing on the calendar!

Maybe I'll do something productive, like clean out the fridge, but I doubt it. I will take Russell for a walk, though. And I've got a bunch of stuff out of the freezer to make a big batch of soup tonight. Thu, 9 Feb 2017 11:59:21 EST Fitbit problem I'm pretty sure this has been covered before, because I think I had the same problem a few months ago.

SP isn't talking to my fitbit. I know that my fitbit is synced and I've synced to my fitbit, but it still shows -0- steps for yesterday and today.

Any suggestions? Wed, 8 Feb 2017 15:27:47 EST Wednesday already?? I'm sorta tired from yesterday - I was all over the place mentally and physically. Today should be a more focused day. But for excitement, my first Green Chef delivery is today! I ordered the Paleo plan, and I hope it will make interesting meals easier. My own cooking is starting to bore me and restaurant meals have little appeal.

Got to churn out some serious client work and make some phone calls today. I got new accounting software to play with (nerd fun!) but I'm putting th... Wed, 8 Feb 2017 11:17:23 EST Food Choices I have opened up my food log to anyone willing to look at it and critique it. After a really good start, I seem to be going in the wrong direction. I do not want to get discouraged and do something stupid like start back with the SAD or CICO. I know that doesn't work but wondering if I am doing something wrong with this.

Thanks! Wed, 8 Feb 2017 07:31:42 EST New with questions Hi,
Im new to the forum and to low carb eating. I have read a little about low carb and my questions are...
1) how do I know whether I should start strict 15-20 carbs, moderate 20-50 carbs or liberal 50-100 carbs.
2) when counting carbs, do I include the carbs in all foods? For example I had three eggs for breakfast. Each egg contains 1g of carbs - do I count that? Or do I only count carbs found in fruit or veggies?
3) do you ever track calories with low carb eating? <BR... Tue, 7 Feb 2017 11:26:03 EST Tired Tuesday Another beautiful day out. It snowed again. Grrrrr. But it did cover up the dirty piles of old snow and it clung to the trees so it is beautiful again. High today of 48, low tonight of 36, so it won't last long.

Didn't sleep well last night, and woke up at 5:30 unable to get back to sleep. Gave up and got up at 6:30. Missing appointments adds unnecessary stress to life. So does letting yourself get over-scheduled. Spend some time... Mon, 6 Feb 2017 10:29:21 EST Testing a theory. I watched a YouTube video on keto. I have been watching this guy's videos for a few years now. In this video, he stated that once you are in ketosis, your goal is no longer to eat 80% fat. Since your body is now burning fat as fuel, it will consume dietary fat first. So unlike a very high fat diet, which gets you into ketosis, you would want to drop dietary fat, while keeping carbs low, so that your body starts burning BODY FAT for fuel.

This kind of makes sense to me. Too many ca... Mon, 6 Feb 2017 10:22:26 EST Not getting enough calories Has anyone had difficulty getting enough calories when eating low carb? I find that I struggle to get up to even 900 calories, but I am not hungry. Has this or will it effect weight loss???? I just don't want to be counterproductive with lowering carbs and it snowballs into low calories and stalled weight loss. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Mon, 6 Feb 2017 09:30:11 EST Saturated Sunday Guess I'm starting the thread today.

A couple of days and nights above freezing has melted a lot of the snow and ice, at least from the roads and, to a lesser extent, the sidewalks. Even some of the grass is bare now, mostly under trees where it didn't get much snow to begin with. Still some really big piles from where the stuff was tossed when it was cleared from the sidewalks and driveways. No flooding, though, at least not around my house. The house on the corner, though, two ho... I'll have chili when I wake up, though. Not really sure how many carbs it will be but I'll do the math when I wake. 5 lb ground beef and a couple cans of diced tomatoes with chilies, .83lb onion, 2 jalapeños, and a can of beef broth. I don't think it will be much. Comfort food yum Fri, 3 Feb 2017 10:21:25 EST Thursday, February 2nd No clever alliterations from me! It's been a bit more than a week and apart from the expected general fatigue that happens when the body is losing glycogen and switching to a fat burning machine, my muscles are not recovering as quickly from workouts. I don't lift or anything, I teach a Bellyfit® twice per week and bellydance twice per week as well. Any tips on how to get over these sore and tired muscles? I ha... Wed, 1 Feb 2017 10:26:45 EST What? Wednesday? And February, too! Seems like just last week I was thinking that there was still a lot of January to go!

Got a text this morning from Bakomeza that her sister will be here tomorrow. I assume that means for sure, but she sent it before I was awake (I need to talk to her about that!) and she's in school now. But it does sound promising!

Wed, 1 Feb 2017 10:17:34 EST Stress test I had my stress test yesterday. Started at 2.4 m.p.h.. no problem. At 3 mins. they cranked elevation up to 5%.. HR up to 150. BP never got above 105/70. At 6 mins. they put speed up to 3.0.. still at 5% incline. That got my HR up to 170. At that point, my pacemaker will go off, so they shut it down at 7 mins.

They wanted it to go longer, and get more info. Maybe they shouldn't jumped so quickly. I spent yesterday puttering around running errands. ESL in the morning, followed by picking up a bunch of chicken necks I'd ordered for Russell (have to divvy them up today and get them in the freezer) and Walmart to pick up an Rx. Then the vet in the afternoon (Russell is in great shape, the raw meat diet seems to agree with him), followed by Mom's house to play Rummikub and then took her to get her hair shampooed while I went to the library. Then a quiet evening at home. A... Sat, 28 Jan 2017 09:39:43 EST Frosty Friday! 10+ degrees below normal, but no snow! Which is good, since I wrenched my back yesterday shoveling the 1/2" or so since I'd cleared off from the big fall on Tuesday. No problems at all shoveling several inches, but can't handle a measly little ol' half inch. Go figure.

Lots of errands planned for today. Some may have to wait. Unfortunately, they are most definitely NOT geared towards low carb.

Here are links to various threads where members of this team have posted their actual menus. Please remember that the members are on different plans, are at different levels of those plans, and have different nutritional requirements. Also, some posted what they actually ate even if it was definitely off plan. (I seem to recall a couple of... Tue, 24 Jan 2017 10:50:12 EST Mucky Monday It's been unseasonably warm around here, so the rain has made everything really soggy, including my shoes. :(

I'm taking tomorrow off so I'm doing my best to blast through everything on my desk today, so I'd better get back to it.

Have a great day, all! Mon, 23 Jan 2017 13:34:16 EST Serene Sunday Nothing to do today except putter around the house. Not even any snow to shovel! I hope. I might go over to Mom's for a bit or to Marwa's. Or I might just stay home and be totally lazy. Russell votes for either staying home or going to Mom's, since he gets to go to Mom's with me.

An hour and three-quarters shoveling snow yesterday! But when I get up it finally breaks the hold the dream has on me. Except that hasn't really worked for me this time. My mind still goes back to the dream, or at least the sense of the dream. Mon, 16 Jan 2017 10:26:35 EST Hi Team Hi Everyone,

I just joined the team but I'm not new to low carb. In Dec 2015 I started a LCHF/ketogenic WOE and that combined with IF caused me to lose 35 pound. by July, putting me at my lowest weight since the 1980's. I've bounced around between 149 and 155 pounds but have maintained that loss. For 2017 my goal is to lose that last 10 - 15 pounds and through strength training build some lean muscle mass.

I have been part of several Biggest Loser Challenges but I've... Sun, 15 Jan 2017 12:43:23 EST Sunday It's just Sunday. But I'm off tomorrow so we can act like it's Saturday. I got all the Christmas decorations put away yesterday. Today all the bathrooms need scrubbing. Maybe sledding or bowling with the kids today.
Some groceries need to be picked up and some food prep too. It would help if my food didn't get eaten as soon as it's prepped! Sun, 15 Jan 2017 09:37:31 EST Fit on Friday It's Friday! A big deal for a lot of you, not so big a deal for me. I hope I'm thinking!

A hard freeze last night. I need to go out and check the water in the gutter. I spent several hours over the past couple of days chipping out ice and snow and slush so the water would drain. Unfortunately, the people downhill from me didn't do that, so it mostly just pooled up lower in front of my house. But at least I don't have a big ice pond at the foot of my driveway. I may be able to chip out some more ice, but I doubt it. <B... Thu, 12 Jan 2017 11:38:00 EST Wading on Wednesday Still well above freezing. Still a real mess as the snow and ice melt and the runoff has no place to run. I didn't realize that I live on a slight hill until I saw the water run down the street. There's a definite incline, and I live pretty much at the top of it. A very slight incline, but in this weather I'm glad I'm not at the bottom!

Had a good day yesterday. Wed, 11 Jan 2017 10:33:50 EST cream cheese I usually have 2 ozs. of cream cheese for my snack, and I love it. It's smooth, creamy, and I like the taste now. At first it was like feta, or altoids.. a little strong, and I thought.. how do people eat this plain. I love it now though.

The last 8 oz. brick I got though, I froze, because I bought 2 of them. Mon, 9 Jan 2017 11:06:25 EST Bermuda Sunday It was 24 degrees at 8:15. ABOVE zero! Even the windchill was in the positive teens. Positively balmy.

Spent over an hour shoveling snow, then took Russell for a short walk. He was so excited to get to go for a walk! It's the first walk we've had since at least Tuesday.

We're supposed to have freezing rain today, turning to wet rain this evening. Yuck. A good day to stay inside again. Sun, 8 Jan 2017 12:39:58 EST Soggy Saturday Which I'm sure all you frozen people would appreciate, as it's a balmy 43 degree out there. Sat, 7 Jan 2017 11:38:31 EST Frozen Friday Another cold day, going to the gym. It was 10 degrees. I went and upped my walk to 28 mins. and a new high of .93 miles. Almost to a mile! It has taken a few weeks to get there, because I was so weak, after leaving the hospital. I turned down Cardiac rehab last night, because I think I can push myself hard enough, and doctor said it was my choice. I will probably use it after having the heart valve replaced, but think I got a handle on things for now.I didn't want to go to the hospital for wor... Fri, 6 Jan 2017 08:14:57 EST Thaw me out Thursday! 2 degrees at 9:45, windchill of -14. High of 8 with windchill of -3. Or something like that. And I have lots of shoveling to do. Drift on my front porch as high as the railing, which is about waist high. And a sort of diagonal drift going up my front steps from the sidewalk is just as high. And the sidewalk that I had shoveled yesterday is completely filled in again. About a foot of snow, with drifts, according to the weatherman, of 3' to 4'. Ugh. Sun, 1 Jan 2017 11:57:51 EST The Kindness Blog Naypooie, you suggested yesterday or maybe the day before that we do a simple act of kindness every time we hear of someone doing something evil in the world. A great idea! And it has inspired me to start a Kindness Blog.

Last night as I was sort of reviewing the Old Year, I tried to come up with lots of examples of kindness and niceness to offset the evil and nastiness and just plain meanness that we all remember from the year, and was having a hard time thinking of many. Sun, 11 Dec 2016 09:59:14 EST Saturated Saturday A couple of inches of snow on Thursday, then freezing rain yesterday and last night and today. The rain hasn't melted the snow, which really surprises me. Surprised a lot of folks, actually. We all thought that the rain would melt the snow and we wouldn't need to shovel it. Wrong. It just made the snow really heavy. It took me close to an hour to shovel the driveway and sidewalk yesterday. The roads are a real mess - lots of slush. But I did make it to the Christmas party last night.
<...
