Evil Dead on DVD

We've talked about the Evil Dead reboot here a bunch, so I wanted to pass along that Sony has announced that Evil Dead will be released to Blu-ray and DVD on July 16th.

Interestingly enough tho, I don't see any mention of an "uncut" version. I know they were required to edit the film down to get it rated R. Wonder if there will be a second release later in the year.

Well, even tho we are still a few months away from Plants vs. Zombies 2, Plants vs. Zombies Adventures was released today on Facebook. Not much info yet, but an interesting tidbit just popped onto the DSD zombie radar. Production will begin in July for a new "zombie western" to be shot in Australia called "Bullets For The Dead" Here is the thing tho... it has a confirmed $2M budget.
So whatever it is, it could be kinda cool.
I don't think I've ever seen a zombie western. How about you?

This ranks pretty high on the DSD Cool Scale.
In the 1990's horror icon John Carpenter was working on a series for Showtime. It never got picked up, but they have taken the parts that were shot, and cobbled together an anthology type movie (like Creepshow.)

I liked "The Tudors." I know Jonathan Rhys Meyers is one of those "troubled" actors with various substance abuse issues, but he was sooo good in that. The official race course of "The Walking Dead", is coming to a city near me. The Walking Dead: Escape is coming to Philly. Yes, it is the "real" obstacle course, filled with Kirkman and Nicotero zombies. You have Rick's hospital, The Prison, and The Governor's Gladiators sections. This season has had alot of amazing episodes. Sadly, this was not one of them. There were a few small high points. Carl telling his father to get out of his face. A very intense first 5 minutes of the Gov. beating the hell out of Milton. The surprise Rick's group had waiting for the attackers at the prison.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the writer of the recent remake of the movie "Carrie" has signed on to write a new line of Archie Comics... and he's bringing zombies. The title: Afterlife With Archie.

Here’s how it happens: Jughead’s dog Hotdog is run over by Reggie in his roadster. He convinces Sabrina to hatch a spell to bring back the pooch, but when Hotdog bites Jughead, he soon craves flesh.

This sounds so twisted it might be good! Better keep it away from the kids tho.

TIme to do some housekeeping!

Use DST twice a year to test your fire alarms and change batteries if needed.

I also use it to check, rotate out and re-supply disaster supplies, take stock of normal medications and first aid supplies and re-supply if needed etc.

I have very specific locations in the house for flashlights so even in pitch black I could find one in any room. Check those batteries and have one location for spare batteries so you are not digging ...

Not sure if there are any gamers here but I just read in my Xbox 360 magazine that a new zombie survival game is currently being worked on called State of Decay. It's supposedly an open ended game where you can follow the story or go off on you own to create your own method of survival. To me it kinda sounds like Skyrim........but with zombies!!!!! It'll be released on Xbox 360 and PC according to their website, no release date yet. I think I'll definitely check it out.

The first zombie movie that had an impact on me was Return of the Living Dead. The zombies were fast, intelligent ("send more cops" LOL), and all out bad@$$es. Who can forget Tar Man and the half corpse lady, and the fact that 2 of the survivors were turning right before your eyes. Not to mention the killer soundtrack. To this day I still love watching this movie and think it is one of the best zombie movies ever made.

Well, it got a huge number, even up against the Grammys. Walking Dead returned from its third-season break with 12.3 million viewers, a series high.

But I gotta say... I didn't love the episode. It was ok, but certainly didn't grab me. For starters, the stuf in Woodbury looked weak to me. I don't know if it was poorly blocked out, or poorly staffed with extras, but none of the crowd shots (the fight scene or the townfolk panic scene) looked like there were more than 15-20 people....

Was anyone else utterly confused and completely irritated with this episode? I don't want to give spoilers for those who haven't watched, but Daryl's loyalty really bothered me. Glenn's character disappointed me. Maybe they just left off in the wrong place... there was too much time gap from S3 E8.

I never read Stephen King's "The Cell." I did skim through a couple of pages, and meant to get back to it... but never did. It's a cool little book about how a cel signal turns most of the word into zombies. We know King goes through these phases where he's hot and where he's not. His "Under The Dome" miniseries is getting ready to begin production, so I guess that means he's hot again.
Anyhow, there has been talk of making "The Cell" into a movie for a while, and it looks like momentum ...

Aspartame, Acesulfame, Neotame , Saccharin (SugarTwin, Sweet'N Low), and Sucralose (Splenda).
Natural Sweeteners (in small quantities) are acceptable for those of you who need a little something: Agave nectar, Date sugar, Fruit juice concentrate, Honey, Maple syrup , and Molasses. But again, very small quantities.

We've talked about the new "Evil Dead" remake. Even tho some folks don't think there was much to the movie, I stand by my belief that for its time, it was a heck of a scare.

Well, it comes as no surprise that the new "Evil Dead" remake, when submitted to the MPAA for review, has been given an NC-17 rating. The first "Evil Dead" was originally rated X (this was before NC-17 existed) and had to be edited for national release. The same thing will have to happen here. The level of gore...

It's almost time. The official "Team Zombie 28 Days Later Challenge" is almost here. For the month of February, the challenge is to get rid of the sugars and sugar substitutes that are turning us all into over weight zombies!
This means ditching the soda and candy (including diet and sugar free things that contain artificial sweeteners.) It means looking at the labels of the things you buy (stuff like katsup and applesauce) and buying stuff that has either no sugar, or just trace amount...

Thanks to Rheyn nagging me for answers (ok, it didn't exactly happen that way) I've found some info on the Living Dead Film Festival. Looks like it happens in Chicago in the fall every year, tho the fate of it for next year seems in doubt. DH went target shooting with my DD and her friend the other day and found that there were no 9mm bullets to be found for love or money. A few boxes of hollow points were available, but those are too expensive for target shooting.

We have 22 LR for "plinking" so they used that to practice.

He and I tried to go target shooting yesterday and went to another store and again, same story. No 9mm bullets available and a decided lack of just about every other caliber.

Current Walking Dead supervising producer Scott M. Gimple is finalizing a deal to become executive producer and new showrunner of the show. He is expected to convene his writing team to begin work on Season 4 in the next two weeks. He replaces Glen Mazzara, who exited when Walking Dead was renewed for a fourth season last month. The movie "Devil's Carnival" is just plain weird. Cool weird, but weird (and available live streaming on Netflix.) The best way I can describe is it as a rock opera set in Hell. If you haven't seen it, and have Netflix, check it out. You might think it's kinda freaky cool.

I haven't seen this one, but I remember it got alot of good buzz when if first came out. Well, Juan of the Dead has been nominated for the Best Latin American Film award at Spain's equivalent of the Oscars.
Pretty cool that a zombie film is up for such a big award. I know it's available on Netflix, but haven't had a chance to see if it's streaming or DVD.

Frank Darabont (you know, the guy who created a little television show called "The Walking Dead") has been hired to rewrite the script for the new Godzilla movie. Word has it, the producers are wanting to start shooting the latest in rubber suit monster movies some time this spring.
Well, he certainly helped re-invent zombies. Maybe he can do the same for Godzilla.

Effect Of Cold Weather on Zombies

We had a graphic on the news earlier this week about how 95% of Canada had snow on the ground but only 6% of the US had snow. This has made me reconsider my idea that grabbing a sailboat and heading south is the answer to zombie infestation.
Yes, enduring the winter will really, really suck. But I'm thinking zombies will slow WAY down in snow and ice (if they could even navigate it. Zombies are not known for their dexterity.) So in the end, heading to Canada and toughing out the winters ...

OK, the devil is in the details and this issue bothers me,

So we have seen a deer, an owl and a possum from what I can recall on Walking Dead.

I would expect to see some crows and a LOT of carrion eaters. The lack of flies especially in the hot summers is disturbing to me also.

And where are all the domesticated animals? Why no cats, dogs, chickens, horses, cows etc.

They have been in some pretty rural places and I just can't believe that a zombi...

Hey guys... Happy Halloween. I've gotten lots of notes from people regarding the hurricane. We're all ok, tho we lost a couple of trees, some siding, and a bit of roof. We finally got power back last night, which is great, 'cause it's getting cold. My daughter has no school again today, because the school is without power.

I thought this was a stupid idea when I first heard it. I've seen a few clips tho, and what i've seen has been pretty funny.
The re-imagined Munsters show “Mockingbird Lane” stars Jerry O'Connell as Herman, and features Eddie Izzard as Grandpa and Portia de Rossi as Lili. The show will air on NBC at 8pm, and premiers October 26th.
I'm a huge Fred Gwynne fan, and I really don't want to like the new show. But I may give it a shot. What do you think?

Anyone who's on this team has probably seen "Evil Dead." It, and the sequels, are horror (and then comedy) classics. The movie is being remade, and interestingly enough, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are both working behind the scenes (tho unlike the original, Raimi is not the director.)

Mummy Reboot

Universal Pictures has announced a reboot of "The Mummy", a franchise who grossed $1.25 billion over three films. They are eyeing a potential summer 2014 release, so things are moving quickly. It will reportedly be set in modern times, and will feature a "darker and scarier" mummy.
On the down side, it's being directed by Len Wiseman, who recently directed the box office summer bomb "Total Recall."

I know there have been mentions here and there on the boards that the Zombie genre is wearing a bit thin. Well perhaps it is because humans have been riding the Zombie train for longer than you might think.

The oldest reference to the undead eating the living goes back 4800 years to the Epic of Gilgamesh.

It probably doesn't have zombies... but... it looks like the cast for Scary Movie 5 is filling up fast. Kate Walsh ("Private Practice") is the latest star to sign on the dotted line to be slashed up. We also have Heather Locklear and Molly Shannon confirmed to be in the movie.

Thoughts on the "Scary Movie" franchise? Liked the first one... but like with most movies, felt it got boring after #3. How about you?

One of the few TV shows we watch as a family each week is "Face Off" on the Sci-Fi channel. It's a reality show where make up artists compete each week towards some big cash prize. Every week they have a challenge, and one person goes home broken hearted.
Well this week, they are doing an "Alice in Zombieland" challenge, putting a zombie spin on your favorite Alice characters. Looks very cool.

C.H.U.D. (Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller) is a 1984 horror film directed by Douglas Cheek, who later went on to become a well known documentary director. I really wanted to do Dale and Tucker vs Evil for my movie, but DSD said that we get extra points for incorporating zombies so I chose Devil's Playground. But I still recommend that you watch Dale and Tucker vs Evil! Both movies can be found on Netflix.

Life imitating art? "Walking Dead" actor Scott Wilson (Hershel Greene) is facing DUI charges after being arrested last week.
Wilson, 70, was pulled over at 2 a.m. on August 18 by Peachtree City, Ga., police after they clocked his car going 70 miles per hour "well above the posted speed limit" for the area, according to officials. Police also noted that his car "swerved back and forth" several times.
