Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:24:41 EST Daily Running Log - How far did you go today? Getting back into the game, starting with 3 miles, 3 days a week.

4/17: 3 miles Thu, 17 Apr 2014 10:22:29 EST Zombies, Run! I got this super fun app for my iPhone that syncs your playlist with a post apocalyptic zombie story! You can run intervals to evade the zombies. It's great. Check it out.

Mon, 15 Jul 2013 12:50:18 EST Ease to 10K Progress Hi friends!

I'm two days into the Ease to 10K program and it feels great to be running again!

I wasn't sure how it was going to go after such a long break from running, but I think the level is the perfect match for me. It's enough of a challenge that I have to push, but not so much that it is discouraging. (It's 5 3-minute runs separated by 1-minute walks.)

I get my third day in tomorrow to complete week 1. Fri, 8 Feb 2013 07:30:02 EST Starting Over! Hello friends and runners if anyone is out there!

Sorry to have been MIA for so long. I have been off Spark on *maternity leave* and am just getting back after having a beauuutiful baby boy!

Well, now I have about 17 pounds of baby weight to work off, and am starting from scratch on the running.

I have my follow up appointment with the doctor on Tuesday and hope to get the OK to run! I have to start slow because it's been so long since I ran, and because I did... Fri, 1 Feb 2013 12:06:40 EST First 10K Done I had to walk/run it (mostly walk) but I FINISHED! It was very hot so I think most people didn't have close to their regular times. My goal was to finish in 1:30. My official time was 1:24. Now I have a starting point for future 10K's.
I will say that I'm definitely sore right now though. Sat, 9 Jun 2012 19:33:53 EST Moving on...what's next? I recently finished the B210K and I'm feeling great. I haven't yet scheduled myself to run an actual 10K race but I plan to this summer. I'm looking for some direction on where to go next? I honestly never thought I'd ever even make it through the C25K program and I was very hesitant to start the 10K program but I did it and I love it. I'm currently running about 15-20 miles a week and I keep slowly increasing both my time and distance. A friend of mine asked me to run a 1/2 marathon wit... Sun, 13 May 2012 09:02:07 EST B10k question How many times per week should we do these workouts ? Sun, 29 Apr 2012 22:18:44 EST Do you run with Music? Some of you must just be "pros". I am wondering if you don't listen to music while you run, what on earth do you do? Maybe I don't need the music? Mon, 16 Apr 2012 10:17:40 EST App problems HELP! So I have an ipod touch and the Bridge to 10K program on the IPOD.

I cannot get the silly thing to start when I push the start button.
It takes alot of fumbling around, going back and forth, some cussing before it will start.
Then occasionally, the music will just stop.

Any thoughts?

I have been trying to run the Nike+ sensor with it too and that has been a disaster.
I will not use it on my next run. The app issue continues without the sensor h... Thu, 12 Apr 2012 12:59:19 EST Ran my first race!!! So I've been totally intimidated by the whole race thing - all those people! But I finally signed up for one and completed it yesterday! It was a 5K (which is as far as I've been running recently) and I did so much better than I thought I would!!

I completed the race in 25:34, and even got a medal for being one of the first 250 to cross the finish line! (There were 1447 people in the race.)

I am SO proud of myself, and it has really inspired me to work on my running more... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 13:35:34 EST New I just joined this team today. I have done a lot of 5K's. I have never been able to run one all the way though. Just finished the Couch to 5K program on my treadmill a few weeks ago. Hoping to start training for the next step which is the 10K.
Going to be starting the program today. Mon, 13 Feb 2012 20:49:51 EST The "Make It Happen" Challenge for February Hi Friends!

The "Make It Happen" Team is apparently right behind us in fitness minutes for the month of January. They have challenged us to see which team can log the most fitness minutes for February!!

It seems like a little extra incentive to #1 - get the minutes in, and #2 - log them! (I myself have fallen off the logging wagon, so this might kick my booty back on.)

What do you think? Will you please log your minutes this month and see if we can BEAT them?!... Mon, 2 Jan 2012 12:13:05 EST Cross-training - Whatcha doin? Many of you may have already read this article in the Weekly Spark on cross-training for runners, but if not it's worth checking out:

_articles.asp?id=1566

Are you doing any of these now? Some of the poses are stretches I was doing already, but there are some that I'm going to try. I have never been a yoga person! But I like stretching! So maybe I need to take another shot at it. ;-)

_articles.asp?id=1578
Tue, 1 Nov 2011 21:30:26 EST What are your running goals? It's almost a new month!

What are your running goals right now?

I was initially aiming for a Half Marathon in January and have decided I am not going to push for that one. There will be another HM down the road when I'm better prepared.

Right now, if I can get to 9 miles by the end of November I would be more than pleased. Sun, 30 Oct 2011 11:35:58 EST Join a virtual race! Has anyone signed up for and/or tried one of the SP virtual races?

Give it a shot! It's a lot of fun. I did my first one this week - a 5K - and signed up for a 10K next week.

Check it out and let us know how it goes!

Happy running! :)

race-home.asp
Thu, 27 Oct 2011 11:16:33 EST Helpful article on what to eat and WHEN. I run in the early morning - trying to fit in an hour or so before I have to wake my son for school. I am always having a hard time figuring out what to eat before my run that won't have me rubbing my side half way through trying to get rid of that horrible cramp!

I've read a number of tips, but I found this article especially helpful because it breaks down what you should be eating and when depending on if you are a morning, afternoon, or evening runner.

Although I fall... Tue, 11 Oct 2011 09:01:32 EST October Team Update! Hi Friends! :)

As you know, HALFFAST has stepped down as co-captain of the B210K Team. If anyone is interested in stepping in to co-captain in her place, please let me know! :)

The main goal of the team is to offer support through the week by week running program, but we are here once you are done with the program too - share what you are up to next and any other running issues you have going on!

I am going to try to start posting some useful running articles,... Mon, 3 Oct 2011 14:39:36 EST New to group. 10k in 4 weeks I am new to this. I have ran several 5ks and feel confident that I will be able to run the 10k. I was going to try to start at the 22 min run 1 minute walk week and go from there. Any other suggestions? Sun, 28 Aug 2011 18:50:54 EST Had my first bad run This past Sunday I was to run the W1D3. I had successfully completed the first two days (albeit slowly).

The main difference from my "normal" run time was that it was close to 9:30am. The sun was out and it wasn't too hot. I normally run around 5:30-6:00 am and the sun is just starting to rise at the end of my run.

It wasn't hot, but I was HOT! I am hoping this is why I did not do well. I ran the first two intervals (ugly!) and then just could not run any more. I h... Tue, 23 Aug 2011 11:33:41 EST Hi Team! New member here! Just graduated on Saturday from C25K and purchased the B210K app to start tomorrow. I hope there are still people around to chat. :) Mon, 15 Aug 2011 15:24:13 EST Logging your runs in the fitness tracker Hi friends!

How are you logging your B210K runs in the fitness tracker?

Some ways to do it:

Calculate your total time and mileage and enter it into the Mileage Tracker
Use the "Map Route" option to do the same
Enter the total minutes walked and the total minutes run separately in your tracker by doing all that annoying math. ;-)
If you have a HRM, I guess you can enter your total calories burned, although I don't have one and don't have that exp... Sun, 7 Aug 2011 18:21:34 EST Hi Team! I am new to group! Hello! I am new to group as of this morning. I have started running a 10K training program but not the B210K, will check out the similarities and work with them both.

I ran my first 5K last Thursday night and was a great time. Check out my blog about it!

Looking forward to making new friends. If anyone here is in the S. NH area, I am try to get a running group together for people in Hooksett, Pembroke, Allenstown and surrounding area.

Happy Running!
... Wed, 29 Jun 2011 15:07:36 EST Hi team! Good Morning all,

Thought I would pop a quick note to introduce myself - I'm Amy and I completed the C25K program earlier this spring and have run in my first organized 5K events (and have been keeping up with my practice runs).

I just loaded B210K onto my iPod as one of my next goals. I hope to get started this week.

I'm hoping that between this program and starting to do soem road bike riding this summer that i will get my endurance up to do well in a dua... Mon, 20 Jun 2011 11:09:26 EST What next? So I am so close to finishing the program. I am on W8d3. I have a 5k scheduled for July 9th. I was wondering which program I should do next, bridge to 10k or ease into 10k? Also, can I start these programs right way or should I wait unil my 5k race is over?
Mon, 13 Jun 2011 12:32:00 EST Week 6 So today I was supposed to run an hour straight w/o walking. And you know what???
I ran that hour and still had something left, so I KEPT GOING! I ran for 69:30 -- enough to get me to 5 miles run (yes, I'm slow). I absolutely can't believe it. This program rocks! Believe it and you can do it!!

I can't wait until my 8k race in 2 weeks. At least now I can go to it with the confidence that I won't have to walk!!

I HEART B210K!

104 Mon, 7 Mar 2011 16:16:01 EST E210K - week 6 Day 1 done today. the last section almost whupped my um... :) but I am so proud of myself for doing it. The ankles and hamstrings still irk me and I hate it, but when I really warm up in the run they stop hurting. then when they cool up again they hurt. :( I ice a lot at work and that helps, I also am using Traumeel, but I just wish my body would get over itself. lol Thu, 24 Feb 2011 07:49:14 EST Nina Hi there! I have one more day of C25K and will start day 1 of B210K on this Sunday, Feb 27th! Wed, 23 Feb 2011 13:50:17 EST E210K - week 5 After not finishing week 4 last week due to bad sinusitis, I thought I'd need to repeat it. But when I got on the treadmill this morning I felt so strong I went for it and started Week5
WooHoooo!!! Mon, 14 Feb 2011 08:53:49 EST Runkeeper Pro is FREE through the end of January Just thought I'd let you all know that on the android market right now, you can get Runkeeper Pro for free (at least through the end of January). I've been messing around with it for the past week and I like the fact that you can manually add workouts (i.e., treadmill).

I normally use Endomondo but I haven't bothered with it since I've been running exclusively on the treadmill lately (too cold/snowy/icy outside). I just went to their website to recommend that they allow manual entr... Thu, 20 Jan 2011 15:33:11 EST E210K - week 4 day 1 is done. 6 min intervals x5, the last one I really had to push. It's interesting building on this program after doing c25k. Mon, 10 Jan 2011 03:02:07 EST E210K - week 3 W3d1 done today! I like the way this program progresses. The intervals get longer each week which makes the run a little longer each week too. So far my hamstrings are complaining too much and I am doing a stretching routine afterward that takes about a half hr.

I am still using my new go-to treadmill. No incline, because this one feels like it is already at 1%. My timing is also quite slow but I am not worrying about that at this time. I do try to push it up for a min at the end o... Sun, 2 Jan 2011 04:46:38 EST Wait...have I been doing b210k wrong?!? I just did w5d2 of b210k this morning, but (for whatever reason) it just occurred to me that I might have been reading the program WRONG this whole time!

For example, the program says:

Week 4:
5 minute warmup
Run 18 min/walk 1 min (Repeat 3x)
5 minute cooldown

So, I...
ran 18 min, walk 1,
ran 18, walk 1,
ran 18, walk 1

Was I reading the program wrong? Should I have been running the sequence 4x instead of 3x? Sh... Wed, 29 Dec 2010 10:44:02 EST E210K week 2 w2d1 done today.
Feels so good to run again. Yes, my hamstrings and ankles are still an issue, but the stretching is helping. I miss the energy and strength I felt when I was pushing myself to work harder. So I am going to continue with this as long as things stay the same and don't get any worse. Sun, 26 Dec 2010 03:14:36 EST Running Challenge? Hi,

I am new to the team and know that challenges work best for me. So would anyone want to do a running through 2011 challenge? Just to help us all stay focused and together?

Mon, 20 Dec 2010 11:49:24 EST The Alternate program Sounds a little like Freeway 2 10K or ease in2 10K.
From what I have read, both can be for beginner runners and kind of by pass the c25k program. Fri, 3 Dec 2010 02:02:42 EST Question about the B210k program I was wondering, if it only says W1 and no days, does that mean you do that only once that week?
For example: run 10, walk 1 min (repeat 4x) only once that week?
Thanks :) Wed, 1 Dec 2010 11:23:32 EST Week 6 - 60 minute runs Hi friends!

I started the last week of the B210K this morning with my first 60-minute run with no break.

I did not do very well with distance. I had this stitch in my side nearly the entire time. My husband says it's a breathing thing, and I'm not giving myself enough oxygen.

So I finished the hour, but I kept thinking how great it would be to run without that pain! lol... I guess I will have to do some deep breathing exercises on Wednesday or something, and ... Mon, 15 Nov 2010 15:57:50 EST Week 5 Hi friends!

Well I started Week 5 this morning - I was really looking forward to it since this week we're down to 2 intervals! Fun! Plus daylight savings! So a little light a little earlier!

Well I woke up to rain. :( So that was a bit of a downer. But I went out and did it and came home drenched. The run itself is much shorter on Day 1 than what we've been doing. I ran just under 4 miles. I would have kept going to at least hit the 4 mile mark if it weren't for the rain... Mon, 8 Nov 2010 19:11:24 EST Week 4 For the first time in about 2 weeks, I felt confident finishing the training run. It was long, but I felt I had the stuff to get through it, without all my usual Jedi mind tricks. I say again, trust the program. Except for being WICKED sore, I'm looking forward to Monday's run. It was also blustery, which I loved! Autumn leaves swirling around...beautiful. Fri, 29 Oct 2010 18:08:50 EST Training Question Ok, I don't have my own Ipod, I use my son's. So how does the training podcast work? Will I have to listen to his music? I like the C25K because it had music plus the prompts. Wed, 27 Oct 2010 16:05:46 EST HELP! I'm about to hit a wall. I'm a shallow breather, and need some tips, exercises, guidance, etc.
Thanks,
Chelle Mon, 25 Oct 2010 16:42:56 EST Week 3 Well friends, I just returned from W3D1 and PHEW! It kicked my booty. During the last interval it hit me: I have to eat something before I run! I guess I could get through those 30 minute runs in the morning with no food, but now that we're doubling that, my body needs a little something to push through. Maybe a protein drink or a banana at least! Sun, 24 Oct 2010 09:50:07 EST Hi I'm GWen Just finished the C25K program this past saturday..Looking forward to being in this group to see what it has to offer... Mon, 18 Oct 2010 10:51:58 EST Week 2 Woo hoo!!! Week 2 is better than Week 1! Well, at least today was. I had a feeling I would do better with fewer intervals. Even though the run is actually longer, something about not having to do so many tricks the brain into thinking it's shorter... or something. But I really enjoyed my run this morning and felt amazing afterward. Finally ran more than 4 miles. I concentrated on going slow from the beginning, and really my overall speed wasn't much different than usual - I think it was just ... Sun, 17 Oct 2010 11:44:39 EST Race report Ran the Pumpkin Run 5K today at 5:30. About 80 degrees with a 13 mph N wind. Race was held at Florida Atlantic University (which broke ground on a new on-campus football stadium yesterday) and benefitted the College of Education's Center for Autism Related Diseases.

Expected a decent run, but not a PR with the temp. So I ran it in 30:43, placed 4th in my age group (missed 3rd by 2 minutes), 221 out of about 600. So I was very pleased with my performance overall. Not bad for ... Sat, 16 Oct 2010 21:28:51 EST What stretches are you doing? I just read this article and the suggested stretches:

.shtml

and thought, "Wow - I don't do THAT many stretches!" It seemed like a lot to me.

I do stretch before and after I run, but I keep it pretty simple. I do some of the warm-up exercises I learned from Jillian (toe touches, arm crosses, arm circles, etc.) and some stationary stretches like stretching my calf muscles on the stairs, and a couple of ... Sun, 10 Oct 2010 22:49:57 EST ipod touch i just got an ipod touch, for what i thought was B210k. what i really got was Ease in to 10k. is there an app for b210k for the ipod touch? i haven't found one yet, or even a similar version. any help???
Thanks! Sat, 9 Oct 2010 16:29:44 EST Chit Chat Thought I'd create a thread for general chit chat :)

We may end up traveling this weekend. Found out this morning that my husband's grandma is in the hospital, and we're waiting for the phone call whether or not we need to go. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She is such a wonderful woman and I truly hope she will be alright.

Sat, 9 Oct 2010 11:33:12 EST Eating & Running I recently read somewhere that it's best to eat about 150 - 250 calories about an hour before running and then eat a regular meal post-run.

I was wondering your opinions on this because for me (and this may be TMI, sorry) if I eat before I run, I get that "gotta go" feeling about 10 minutes after I start running. It does usually go away by the time I'm done, but it tends to mess with my concentration :(

Opinions? Thoughts?
Sat, 9 Oct 2010 11:27:43 EST Week 1 I did Week 1 Day 1 today - 4 9-minute runs separated by 1-minute walks. My run felt good this morning. It is a little strange to go back to intervals. The first walk comes up so quickly that it seems harder to stop and start again than it would be to just keep going! But the third walk was welcome. And that one minute is very short!

I'm going to have to find a new route or a way to extend the one I have. It worked great for the 30 minute runs and will work well this week, but as th... Sun, 3 Oct 2010 10:17:06 EST Suggestion Box Have ideas for the team? Let us know here! Sun, 3 Oct 2010 09:15:50 EST Alternate Version of B210k (Do not Reply) Apparently there are 2 different versions of this program depending on whether you have an ipod or a droid. Here's the droid version (thanks Jessica!):

Weeks 1 - 4 are for people still doing C25k so we'll start with Week 5 on this one...

Each workout includes a 5 minute warm-up walk and 5 minute cool-down walk

Week 5:
Run 9 minutes, Walk 1 minute (Repeat 4x)

Week 6:
Run 10 minutes, Walk 1 minute (Repeat 4x)

Week 7:
Run ...
