SparkPeople C25K Graduates Team Messageboard Do you feel comfortable running a couple of miles & would like to continue progressing as a runner? This group focuses on a lifestyle of running & specific plans that will take you to the next level. SparkPeople C25K Graduates Team Messageboard Hello everybody! Hey everyone!

I'm Jessie, and although I've been using SparkPeople on and off for over 3 years now I've never really been part of any teams. Now that I've gotten to be really consistent with SparkPeople I thought it would be fun to actually be a part of the teams too!

I used to loath running, I would always get runners stitch around 5 mins in, and I had undiagnosed exercise induced asthma. It wasn't until college I found out that I had it. Now that I have an inhaler, and... Fri, 19 Apr 2013 15:25:15 EST Hi! I'm Jackie Hello, I'm Jackie, and I've been using SparkPeople for almost a year now, but I'm just now getting around to joining teams.

I used to hate running, and I used to think I could never be a runner. But now, after doing C25K about two years ago, I love it! I make up my own running plans at this point, based on what my goals are. I run 35 minutes on a treadmill 3 times a week at 6 mph. My goal is to work that up to 7 mph for the whole 35 minutes.

I've done a 5k and and ... It's on the inner side of my right knee cap. I'm fairly new to running, but I did just complete a half marathon. I took a couple of weeks off and when I started up again - ouch!! Applying ice and rest hasn't helped. Any ideas? I appreciate your input. Tue, 13 Nov 2012 09:27:58 EST Hello from Michigan Hello everyone, just finished C25K today!!! I'm 56, female, from Michigan, and 30# overweight(doing WW). I ran back in the 80s - 50mpw, I was never fast, always just to stay in shape. My current goals are for fitness, maybe work up to about 10 miles or 1/2. Loved this C25K program. But boy am I slow, 15 min miles - yikes!!!!! I need to speed up, any helpful tips? I have 3 coworker friends who have just started running about the same time as I did. We're planning on doing a 5K either O... Sat, 18 Aug 2012 16:16:12 EST Sharing the Dream Tomorrow I run my first 5K of this year. I have run 4-5k's, 1-10 K and 2 half in the past couple of years, but this one is special. Some friends and I have been working with some folks at our local homeless shelter, taking them through the C25K program and tomorrow is THEIR first ever 5K - and BBQ afterwards to celebrate! 244 It is going to be such an honor to share this experience with them all - 242 in advance to all the Crossover Running Participants for sticking wi... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 22:52:24 EST What's your workout/run tomorrow? Tomorrow is Week 1 Day 2 of the Easy10K app I started. Speed work. Only two miles, though, so I think I will tack on another easy run of 2 miles. Still in calorie burning mode.

I'm really looking forward to it!

Tue, 26 Jun 2012 22:28:24 EST Easy10K Jeff Galloway Runner App (Lolo) I just started this app today and so far I really like it. It's a $3.99 app, and worth it.

It has two parts -- a regular "get you to 10K" side, and then another 10-week program for improving your speed. I'm doing that one since I have already been running 4-6 miles 3 days per week. I can repeat it as often as I like to improve my time.

It's very flexible. Jeff coaches you through each run. It has music that you can control the beat of for your pace. You set what pace yo... Mon, 25 Jun 2012 19:54:49 EST Hello fellow runners!! Hi! I just completed the C25K the end of March and did my first 5K on 1 April 2012. I've kept up with running at least 4 times a week since then. I did my first trail race on 22 May and it was a tough one. I loved it, though. Best accomplishment so far?? I did my first 10K this past weekend on 3 June. It was a bit mental since it poured rain that day and there were some crazy hills. I was dead last out of 114 people (only 26 were women) but it was a competitive run. I am proud to rep... Wed, 6 Jun 2012 15:29:49 EST daily runs? reposted from another team

Just a question on how people feel about daily running. I have always kept to a every other day schedule for my running, never running two consecutive days in a row. It has served me well but there are times I would like to be able to run more than every other day. Just cause I enjoy running above and beyond any other cardio I do. Is this a bad idea? What do people think? Is there a point at which is ok to run every day?

312 Fri, 27 Apr 2012 11:14:49 EST starting again after baby #6 I just wanted to say "hi" to all the runners! I used to read everyone's posts everyday in this group to stay motivated. I was in getting so addicted to running when I got pregnant AGAIN! I tried and tried to keep running, but I just couldn't do it. So, at 4 months into my pregnancy I stoppped all together, because I was so exhausted. I started running intervals again a couple weeks ago and I ran 3 straight miles yesterday! Yeah! I love seeing how great all of you guys are doing and it ... So I've been reading about tempo runs, but I still don't seem to understand them. Basically, if I WANT to be running a 10:00 mile pace, then I would need to do long distance runs at a 10:20 pace? Or do I miss up some intervals in there, i.e. 5 x 3 minutes at 10:20 pace, with 1 minute of recovery jogging in between? And then up it to 4, 5, 6 minutes, etc? I think tempo runs might be a better way to push myself than with intervals. Just wondering what all of you thought...

Thanks for... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 11:56:45 EST 10K Runner app I just started using this one to carry on from the Run5K that I finished.

So far I like it. I started in Week 8, since it was mostly just Run5K week 8, except that it finishes day 3 with a 35 minute run instead of a 30 minute run. I was ready for that after two weeks of 30.

Then it starts run walk intervals. Week 9 is 20 run/3 walk/20 run. Warm ups and cool down, of course. I actually did the C25K program 5 or 6 years ago. It was a great way to start. After completing the program, I continued to run - mostly just slow miles, with an occasional interval thing thrown in. Unfortunately, over the past two years, upheavals in my personal life have been my excuse for a virtually non-existent running life. Now I'm determined to get back into it. I am now able to jog for 30 to 40 minutes, at a ridiculously slow pace. I am not yet addicted to it, as I was a few years ago... But I ran 3 5Ks and a 2 mile fun run in the fall, ran fairly consistently through the winter and spring, and did an 8K and 10K this summer. The heat and humidity has knocked me WAY off track. I am also planning to run 1, maybe 2, half marathons in the fall. Have I lost my mind??? I am going to run them with some of my running buddies. Fri, 10 Jun 2011 18:49:33 EST How to keep running in this heat? Hi! I haven't posted anything in quite a while, but as always, I enjoy reading how everyone is doing and how great your running is going. It is just so motivating. Speaking of motivation, I am really struggling right now. I ran two 10 K's in May. My first one was 62 min and my second one was 60:57. Okay, so I'm doing it. I am officially doing my first 10k. There is only one problem, its in 12.5 weeks and I haven't really been training for it. In fact, I haven't really been running at all. I have done two runs in the last two days (each about 1.5 miles) and my pace has slowed and I am feeling it, but I am pushing through. Anyway, I was thrilled to set a new PR today!

Here are my recent "long' runs:
3.49 miles ...pace 15 mins 10 secs/mile (9/4)
3.49 miles ...pace 15 mins 2 secs/mile (9/6)
3.1 miles....pace 14 mins 57 secs/mile ... I really need to work on my speed so I talked to a runner friend of mine and she recommended the 30-60-90 method. It goes like this:

5 minute warm up
Run at your normal pace for a minute, then run at a higher pace for 30 seconds, then back down to your normal pace for a minute, then run at the higher pace for 30 seconds, so on and so forth for 10 minutes
Then you bump up your higher pace for 60 seconds so you're running at your normal pace for 60... Wed, 8 Sep 2010 13:19:50 EST feels like menstrual cramps Hi, everyone. I have a question. Twice in the past month I have experienced what feels like menstrual cramps while running. Tue, 7 Sep 2010 15:32:07 EST two week break--yikes I completed my c25k program about three and half weeks ago. Unfortunately, I have not run in two weeks! My right one seems to be fine.

So I ran on Saturday. Things were fine. On Monday I did my Boot Camp class. Lots of lunges and squats. After my class, my knee was hurting and by the next day, it was really hurting. So I'm beginning to think that the lunges and squats are making my knee problems worse, which means I'll probably have to give up my Boot Camp class. Or I could go to class and just skip the lunges/squats but we do a lot of them. I don't think ... I'm Pattie, and I am (finally) proud to be a C25K grad! I finally consider myself a runner, but don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean I'm a fast runner. I struggle with some medical issues, so just the fact that I can run at all is a huge victory for me. 104

I'm happy to be here, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone better. 213 Wed, 28 Jul 2010 13:53:09 EST Recovery Drink Do you guys use a recovery drink after your runs?

I always drink a glass of chocolate milk.

Last year before I did P90X, I did a lot of research on recovery drinks and was very surprised to find studies that put chocolate milk as the #1 recovery drink! It's kind of weird, but I always have a glass after my workouts/runs. It's cheap, natural, and tastes good, too!

This is a recent study done using runners:

Wed, 28 Jul 2010 10:01:49 EST Name your shoe! Since I took up running, I've been really bad about getting in other types of exercises. I do the occasional P90X workout, but not as much as I'd like.

Let's keep some non-running workout discussions going! I need to keep up the motivation and get some ideas!

I got Jillian's 30 Day Shred, and I've yet to do a single workout. Tue, 27 Jul 2010 12:00:15 EST Question about walk/run intervals for speed Hey all, quick question ... I started doing some high-intensity walk/run intervals. I do a fast run (fast for me!) for about 60 seconds and then a recovery walk for about 90 seconds to 2 minutes (fast-paced walk, not jogging). I repeat these for about 20 - 30 minutes. They are definitely improving my overall speed.

Does anyone know if it's safe to do these in between my full run days (days where I run the entire time at a consistent speed) since it's not constant running? Or sho... Tue, 13 Jul 2010 09:45:33 EST Running Barefoot - A Great Discussion on NPR There was a great discussion on The Diane Rehm Show today that I thought I'd share a link to. They were talking about running barefoot, and whether or not running shoes are good for runners. It struck me because I have an old pair of running shoes I've been using, and they're so cushioned that it makes my legs tire. I chose to run in my Converse One Stars twice, even though they have no support at all, and I found that running felt lighter and more "real." I could feel my foot more, and t...
