SparkPeople The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team Messageboard New here Hello from East Fort Worth. I am starting a new phase in my life. Healthy, happy new me. I am a single mother of 2 girls, looking to get back in shape and be healthy.

Just found out my mother has Follicular Lymphoma on her right cheek. We start treatment next week. Tue, 20 Oct 2015 23:36:04 EST Don't want to be a bad Mom I am having a very hard time trying to get back on track. I was doing well the first few weeks, but after our last hospital stay, I started sneaking bad foods. At first it was just a few sneaky treats. We got some bad news about my little boy's heart conditions, I said to hell with it and went on a week long binge. Worse of all, now I am feeding my son that same garbage that I constantly tell him he shouldn't be eating. I have to get us back on track. Our next phase of treatment will take eve... Sat, 6 Sep 2014 08:58:32 EST New Memner Good afternoon - I am a 43 y/o single mother of 6, with 2 left in the home. Now that I am down to having 2 children left in the home I am beginning to work on my health and wellness through exercise and healthier eating. I am hoping that sparkpeople can help keep me motivated to reach my goals. Wed, 11 Jun 2014 15:42:17 EST Cancer folks: what's do you (or did you hate most) We all have ou cancer things we hate. Whether you're a concerned caregiver or the person fighting cancer, what do you (what did you) hate most about it?

I hate being probed by strangers all the time. Sun, 27 Apr 2014 21:52:15 EST 2x Lymphoma survivor finally ready to step forward I had stage IV Hodgkin's when I was 25, and relapsed two years later. I'm 18 months out from a bone marrow transplant and am finally emerging from a "survival only" mindset.

Before I got sick I was a good athlete. I played competitive sports, I had lots of endurance, I ran a marathon with very little training. I never had weight issues or difficulty motivating myself to exercise. Since treatment, I have struggled with having the endurance to get through the day, let alone work in a... Fri, 21 Feb 2014 18:55:51 EST Why am I here? I joined this group to show my support for LLS. My mother died of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma 30 years ago. The treatments they had back then were not as effective as current treatments. I want to show support for those who are surviving as well as those, like my mother, who did not survive, their battle with leukemia or lymphoma. Sun, 15 Dec 2013 12:35:40 EST Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Logo I uploaded the logo in the photo section. I hope the team leaders will use it as the team logo. The team seems so undecorated without it.

Go L&L Society Team! Sun, 8 Dec 2013 09:55:16 EST Here for my cousin Hi - my cousin was just diagnosed with NHL type B - I wanted to join here to learn what I can to help her out. She is 59 - diabetic. She had a basketball size tumor removed from her abdomen. They also took her spleen, a foot of colon, part of the stomach an part of the pancreas. She is quite weak - she had lost a lot of weight prior to the diagnosis. They will do a bone marrow in a few weeks, apparently to stage the cancer, then a PET scan, and then chemo. Any info or links you can provi... Wed, 27 Nov 2013 17:06:39 EST Blood Cancer Awareness Week All this week is blood cancer awareness week here in New Zealand. The Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand is trying hard to get this cancer a higher profile. Wed, 6 Nov 2013 04:28:07 EST General Discussion I am new here - is there any interest in revitalizing the team? Sat, 19 Oct 2013 19:58:02 EST Newbie Needs an SP Village to Help Reach Goal I read somewhere that it takes a village to raise a child, well I'm convinced that it's going to take a SparkPeople village to help me reach my goal. My name is Terry and I'm a 40yr old married guy. I'm also a cancer survivor, who's in his fourth yr of remission from Leukemia. Next July will be my fifth year of remission ( God willing) and the doctors consider five years of remission as being cured of cancer.
I'm planning a HUGE celebration of life on my cure date; however I've allowed ... Fri, 27 Jul 2012 10:18:50 EST Ellie is Fighting Cancer One Mile at a Time Hi SP Team,
On May 31st I got a clean PET scan, Wahoo!! This is my third time being in remission in the past 3 years of fighting Lymphoma. Like many of you, I've gone through some pretty gnarly treatments. And I'm not wasting another day. In celebration of Life I will be running a marathon in Ireland 2 week before my next scan. I'm sure you can appreciate how lucky I am to have training time in between scans. SP Community Guidelines say I cannot ask you for donations to my fundrais... Sat, 23 Jun 2012 22:54:01 EST Please Join SparkAmerica Planned Parenthood! In response to Susan G. Thu, 2 Feb 2012 19:32:10 EST Is anyone here living in Arizona? I am just curious if anyone here is living in Arizona, especially the Phoenix area. I am in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix. Mon, 2 Jan 2012 22:13:52 EST what the hell to do? I have been cancer free(hodgkin lymphoma) for about four years now. Although my energy has come back I still feel my body is fighting me. During my cancer bout I had lost over 40lbs only to gain it all back and than some. I have been struggling to lose weight and feel comfortable with my body. It has been really tough just to find what feels comfortable for my body to respond to weight lost. I eat healthy but sometimes I feel imbalance, either I am eating too much or not enough. My body react... Fri, 2 Sep 2011 12:46:08 EST Trouble getting back on track Hi! I finished RCHOP + radiation last July (and actually gained about 20 pounds in the process). Who gains weight on chemotherapy? Anyway, I am having trouble getting back on track, due to lack of energy and motivation. Anyone have hints? Sun, 21 Aug 2011 08:33:45 EST Just a short run OK, the headline might make you smile - however this is serious. Just a short run (JASR) is an event in a Pittsburgh suburb with a 5k, 8mile, half marathon and 30k distance (18 miles) where the proceeds of the event goes to the Leukemia and lymphoma society (no fundraising required).

In 2010 12 Sparkers met at the event and had a great time. It took on a life of its own and in 2011 when about 50 Sparkers (and some spouses) came to the event and particpated in all the distances, an... Thu, 11 Aug 2011 06:34:31 EST New Here Hi. I'm new. I had been reluctant to join because it's still very hard for me to talk about my sister and remember everything she went through. This is still one of the few things that can bring me to tears every time I think about it. She had leukemia, had two T-cell transplants, and died in December 2008 due to graft vs. host disease after the second transplant. I've stayed involved with the Society by participating in the walks and making donations; I'm also a registered donor. Wed, 10 Aug 2011 19:21:26 EST News Today Just heard a clip about a potential new treatment/cure on the news. Here's a link to a story about it:
reaking-results-for-new-leukemia-treat
ment--127474823.html Wed, 10 Aug 2011 19:13:08 EST Sorry Removed post Sat, 6 Aug 2011 20:35:55 EST New here My husband has Burkitt Lymphoma, but they say it is in the early stages, and they are putting him in the hospital for chemo on Monday. He will probably be there a week. After that, who knows. The doctor thinks he has a 90% chance, but this still terrifies me. I am having a lot of trouble with the crying. Tears are too close to the surface all the time.

We started this journey 6/22 when his lymph nodes popped up. Since then, he has seen 3 doctors, had a needle biopsy, lymph node ... Fri, 29 Jul 2011 19:20:52 EST Team Profile Picture?? Why doesn't this team have a profile picture?? Does anyone know? Sat, 23 Jul 2011 00:40:15 EST Nice to meet you all Hi my name is Lesley, I have been living with lymphoma stage IV plus leukaemia for four and a half years now. I have had chemo twice, lots of blood transfusions and am scheduled for more chemo and an autologous stem cell transplant in the next 18 months. 30 Thu, 21 Jul 2011 06:01:56 EST Heating or re-heating in the microwave How do you feel about heating foods or re-heating them in the microwave? Are you concerned about the chemical transfer from the container into your foods? Are you concern about the radiation?

Ever since my stem-cell transplant, I can't get myself to use the microwave. I want to know if this is a rational fear on my part, or if I'm just going bananas over nothing. Tue, 19 Jul 2011 00:14:06 EST Just joined the group! Hello everyone!

My name is Nina. My mother is now an 11 year lymphoma survivor (stage 4). She went through 3 years of treatment including a stem cell transplant just days before her 60th birthday. She and my father have completely changed their lives around and really enjoy each day as it comes. They are both such an inspiration to me.

I joined Team in Training a couple of years ago to find a small way to give back. I've completed one half-marathon and one triathlon. I w... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 12:33:33 EST What foods have you given up because of cancer? The many different books I've read about eating through cancer tend to consistently minimize the meat intake and highly increase the vegetable and some fruit intake. Since my diagnosis, I've given up artificial sugar for sure, most caffeine, and all fat free and reduced fat products. I've also given up 'diet' whatevers. No high fructose or enriched or partially hydrogenated stuff. The general rule of thumb with me is if I can't name the ingredients, or ingredients have even modified from thei... Even if a woman has already been diagnosed with cancer, she may receive free treatment if she qualifies. Since the program was launched in Illinois in 1995, more than 102,000 women have been screened for breast and cervical cancers.

... I know that no one really knows the "cause" of cancer, but I can't help but think that my obesity is to blame in my cancer. Anyone one else feels the same? Sun, 27 Feb 2011 01:45:20 EST How are you doing? I'm still working on strength and cardio exercising. I try to stay in my calorie range and usually end up slightly over, but my choices are nutritious! Anyway, I'm not losing any weight right now, but I'm feeling much better, stronger, and in less pain (scoliosis related).

How are you doing? Wed, 26 Jan 2011 08:30:09 EST Hi! Hey everyone! I am very excited to see a LLS team! :)

My husband was diagnosed Lymphoma last year (2010) and we learned about the LLS from a friend of mine who participated in Light the Night 2009. Last year (2010) we did LTN in honor of my husband and his best friend (who is currently in remission!!). Needless to say it was an amazing and humbling experience. :)

My husband and I have been married for a little over two years and we have two furbabies - a boxer & a min pi... Wed, 5 Jan 2011 14:46:16 EST How are You Changing Your Plans for 2011? Now that I made it through the holidays, I'm more motivated to work on strength training and aerobic exercise. I started the 28-Day Challenge to help me stay motivated.

What are your health and fitness plans for the new year? Tue, 4 Jan 2011 13:29:23 EST Hoping for Happy Holidays for All Scott and I had a great Christmas here in Little America, our second Christmas on the bluff overlooking the Emiquon restoration project along the Illinois River.

Danny and Danielle, now married for 1.5 years, brought Mary and their two dogs, Jax and Clark Kent. Mon, 27 Dec 2010 19:16:56 EST Going into Maintenance Through December I'm going to keep working out with both strength and cardio, and I am going to log my nutrition. But I'm not trying to lose weight right now.

After a few days of not exercising, I got back with it yesterday, doing 30 minutes yoga and 30 minutes aerobic. Today I kept the momentum with 30 minutes yoga, 10 minutes kick-boxing video, and 40 minutes strength training, working on lower body, upper body and abs. My back and my hip feel so much better after on two days exercising.
... Mon, 6 Dec 2010 16:47:42 EST Thanksgiving My best wishes to everyone on the discussion forum for the Thanksgiving. Thu, 25 Nov 2010 16:55:15 EST Team in Training Question I recently learned about the Team in Training, but do not know much about it. I researched it a bit on the LLS website and it looks cool. How does this program work? How does it compare to the similar program that the American Cancer Society has?

Thanks. Sun, 14 Nov 2010 20:23:26 EST Cranky cancer patient Hi. My sister, age 26, was diagnosed with leukemia (AML) almost a month ago and is in remission. Before taking a little break, I was her caregiver and advocate for a few weeks at the hospital to help her in any way she needed.

I am very confused at the moment, and am wondering if anyone can provide me with some insight. It seems like cancer has made my sister downright mean and hateful towards me. She has a type A personality, and had always somewhat respected me as her older sist... Sun, 14 Nov 2010 13:31:49 EST Hello Hi. I joined this team because both leukemia and lymphoma have been a significant part of my life. My grandpa battled lymphoma for several years before he passed on about six years ago. My sister, age 26, was just diagnosed with leukemia (AML) a few weeks ago, and is now in remission with six months of treatment ahead of her. We hope she'll be out of the hospital for Thanksgiving; we're waiting for her ANC to elevate.

I am happy this team exists. Sun, 14 Nov 2010 12:55:19 EST alkaline/acidic pH Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone else has done any research on people with cancer having an acidic pH or what foods/recipes can help give you an alkaline pH?
30 Thu, 21 Oct 2010 17:00:47 EST GVHD symposium Friends on November 4th there will be a GVHD conference in Cleveland. My appt. with the onc went great today. He examined me and doesn't believe any other nodes are involved and my blood work looked good. I will have a PET scan next week but he doesn't expect that to show any problems. After that I will go back to the surgeon to have the tumor in my colon removed. That's it other than a yearly check up with scan. He said this was a very unusual place to find lymphoma. Thanks for all your prayers and support through this stress in my life. Wed, 6 Oct 2010 18:12:32 EST Final labs are in.... Well I found out today that I definitely have high grade B cell follicular non hodgkins lymphoma. Next step is the oncologist's office. Thanks for all your information so far. Surgery, chemo, radiation are all options, not sure which will be recommended for me yet. I'll contact LLS this week and see where that goes. The journey begins..... Tue, 14 Sep 2010 22:37:51 EST How many Fitness Points Did You Earn Today? I've posted this on the Susan G. Komen team, but it seems appropriate here as well.

My mother had breast cancer in 1973. She trusted our family doctor, who did a mastectomy. She was treated with chemo and radiation, lost her hair, had a fever most days, but she made it through the ordeal. She lived for another 10 years, supposedly cancer free. However, such was not the case. In 1982 she found out she had Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Again she went through chemo and radiation, however, a...
