SparkPeople Foodies Unite! Team Messageboard Foodies, gourmets, food snobs... you know who you are! Welcome and bon appetit! SparkPeople Foodies Unite! Team Messageboard Me? Write a cookbook? I'm still in the hospital (since last April). The last few weeks I've been pestered by scraps of recipes that want me to write them. I won't be able to test them until I have a kitchen, but they refuse to go away.

I got a new laptop a few weeks ago. Yesterday I downloaded Microsoft Office into it. While checking out Publisher, I discovered that it has a cookbook template! So now I can not only write down my recipes, but I can format them into a book. As soon as I have a kitchen an... Sat, 25 Feb 2017 15:02:23 EST Lucky for me... I have a dear friend who visits sometimes. Whenever she does, she brings lunch or dinner. And no fast food. She's brought Indian, Chinese, fish and chips -- REAL food. It's not only welcome relief from the institutional food, but it's wonderful to have such a caring friend.
Wed, 21 Sep 2016 13:05:34 EST I'm just saying... I've been hospitalized since the first week of April. (Which is why I haven't been around lately.) This is probably petty of me, but it's not fun being a serious foodie stuck eating institutional food. I'd give anything to get fruit that isn't canned, veggies that aren't frozen, and meat that hasn't been cooked to death. Tue, 30 Aug 2016 17:49:42 EST How to do breakfast. I often spread it on my bagel like it's cream cheese!
Sat, 27 Feb 2016 21:18:07 EST Just joined Hi Everyone!
I fell in love with the show Top Chef over a decade ago, and now I have one whole bookshelf devoted to my cookbooks (some of which see a lot more action than others, of course). Born, raised, and still living around Western New York, which has numerous natural culinary delights. Especially wine and apples! I am an amateur in the kitchen, but trying to take new risks all the time. Can't wait to learn more and get more ideas here.
Cheers,
Jilly Tue, 10 Nov 2015 13:49:37 EST Food "rules" There seem to be a lot of rules around food. To be honest, this is the first time I've really branched out and explored the Community Section. Sad, I know. But anywho, I LOVE to cook and have made it tradition in my house to explore new recipes and cook a 5 course meal every Sunday. We love to branch out into new meats and cuisines; I'm fairly sure we pay our butcher's rent. Its been really difficult to expand my horizons and still manage my weight loss,... I've always guesstimated my calories for the day but the Nutrition page here is helping me see things like proportion and learn I'm usually not getting enough protein daily. When I'm under the lowest number it recommends on protein on the report page I try to hunt down something like a hard boiled egg or cottage cheese. Fri, 17 Jun 2011 23:05:01 EST Hi, it's Elise, this is my first post. ^-^ I'm not sure how to say hello or what to share here, but I was happy to find people who really LIKE food. One of my sillier New Year's Resolutions this year was "To eat my body weight in cheese and chocolate this year!" I figured I didn't mean it literally and I'm not tracking it, but I'm enjoying NOT feeling deprived and frustrated or guilty when I do eat my treats, because I'm keeping my resolution.
I've always loved cooking and trying different kinds of foods, I like inventing my ow... Sat, 30 Apr 2011 00:41:45 EST My wine sauce was a miserable flop The recipe seemed simple enough: boil three cups of wine, with sugar and a little honey, down to ¼ cup. Allow to cool, then emulsify with olive oil in the blender. Well, when mine had cooled (still in the pan), it set like concrete to the bottom of the pan! I’m having to melt it out with hot water, and it’s obviously a total waste. I don’t know what Bobby did that I didn’t. Thu, 31 Mar 2011 00:52:48 EST The "Star Movie Star" Game This is a fun game I cribbed – er, BORROWED – from another team. Name a star, movie and costar. The next person names a movie the costar was in and someone who costarred in THAT film. For example, if I say “Vivian Leigh was in Gone With the Wind with Clark Gable who was in…” the next person could say “The Misfits with Marilyn Monroe who was in…” (Google is a huge help with this game.) Thu, 17 Mar 2011 17:08:30 EST Relearning Italian I decided to make spaghetti and meatballs tonight. But I've discovered that maybe I was taught a few things wrong about the entire process.

First, the sauce. The sauce I learned from my parents is basically what I made, but with a few changes. They used garlic powder. I minced some (okay, a lot of) fresh garlic. I put a generous splash of olive oil in it.
