I'm 68, and exercise used to be a big part of my life. I was a competitive swimmer, and later was a gymnastics coach with my husband. I had my 2 kids, and life was great.

Later on, I was diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia. I did my best to keep up the healthy eating and exercise. I am responding to the week one challenge where we set our goals. I am already walking ten minutes a day and a lot more, but I have to break it up through the day because I don't have a lot of stamina. I get up every 15 minutes (I set a timer) and walk around my house. So, with the movement thing already underway, my goal is to do at least ten minutes a day of some sort of strength training video. Wed, 12 Jul 2017 16:20:47 EST New to challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x42558x67145624 I just found this challenge 30 . I had been exercising regularly before joining Spark People but I hadn't kept track of it. I've been doing other challenges for at least a month or more. However, I don't want to burn out so I joined this team. I spent over 10 minutes watering my garden and hauling water. I logged it as housework since I didn't find gardening listed.
I did walker's strength exercises for 10, and will be walking to the library this afternoon and back in the evening.

I may have joined this challenge earlier and forgot about it. I hope that by joining this challenge it will give my lacking motivation a push to do regular exercises again. Best wishes to all of you. The first day I took a 5 minute walk twice during the day. It's about all I could do. I have been gradually increasing my active minutes since then. I have only broken my streak a couple of days when I was traveling.

In September I got a Fitbit for my birthday. I was walking about 2-3,000 steps a day. I just increased my goal from 6,500 to 7,000 but lots of days I go over my goal. My long term... Amazing how proud I feel after just a 3 day streak :) Sat, 4 Jul 2015 13:27:57 EST Hello http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x42558x61901683 Hello all, I am Nicole from Chicago. I started walking 1 week ago to lose weight and to lower my blood pressure. Good luck to everyone! I got my Tracker, but I have open diabetic ulcers on my right foot. Chair exercise is just NOT doing it. Discouraged, Mon, 29 Jun 2015 02:12:52 EST Hellooooooo http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x42558x61858927 Hi Everyone.

The part of this journey that's getting me right now is exercise. I can't seem to fit it in so I'm hoping this challenge So ten minutes a day is something I can handle.

Good Luck Everyone Fri, 26 Jun 2015 19:20:50 EST Week Four Journey http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=15451x42558x61853057 This week I hope to continue to do 6,000 or more steps tracking with the spark tracker. I want to do a minimum of 20 minutes of workout for 3 out of 7 days. The rest 15 minutes.

I also want to work more on balancing food. Getting enough fiber seems to be difficult for me without going over on carbs. Getting enough protein is difficult without going over fats.

Tomorrow is my weigh in we shall see how that goes. Fri, 26 Jun 2015 02:15:04 EST Week 1 Day 1... Start. http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=15423x42558x61840761 So, I'll be honest... I hate exercising. I hate to sweat, jiggle, and I get embarrassed really easily, so just getting started with 10 minutes is going to be tuff, but I know it's good for me. I know the benefits of exercise but it still doesn't make me like it right now. I hope by the end of these 4 weeks I find that #1 I stuck with it, and #2 it ain't so bad after all. :)

So, 10 minutes per day... either on the treadmill, mini stepper, e-bike, or dancing... starting today. Wed, 24 Jun 2015 14:14:44 EST Hello http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=-1x42558x61835163 I've been yo yo dieting for months now and I'm proud to say, I think I am FINALLY going to succeed because I'm MENTALLY ready, unlike before. Those little steps really do add up!

I am also going to be trying some new workouts via spark people's videos, and maybe I can pick up a new active activity. I'm still doing mile 2 in walk away pounds. This coming Friday is my next weigh in so we shall see how that goes too. Every week it got easier to make sure that no matter what the day, I was able to get in 10 minutes of some sort of fitness. I've become more regular in making sure I'm paying attention to weight lifting as well as cardio. There's a lot of toning to do and watching TV you can get in a lot of dumbbell work.

As for the long term, I plan to keep exercise part of my day, not something I have to schedule ... If you know about depression you can understand how even 10 minutes of fitness can be the most herculean task imaginable and so hard to do it's crippling. I added variety this week by spending time outside chasing my dog instead of walking her. I also did a lot of yard work and major housework that I counted as fitness minutes due to the amount of energy I spent. I'm planning to run (jog) in my first 5k on April 25 so I'm training for that 3 days a week and trying to do strength training and yoga on the other days. I've been averaging about 30 minutes a day which is a good balance for me right now. I am a runner that became injured last spring after/during a half-marathon. I've ran on and off since during the recovery process, but would easily get frustrated with the pain in my foot knowing that it wasn't time to start running again. Then, I wouldn't do anything for a week or two and then try again. This was counter productive as I my fitness level has now slowly ... Don't have a dog to walk but want some time with animals who need love? One of my ways to walk once a week is to volunteer at my local animal shelter. Did you know that most animal shelters use volunteers to walk the dogs? By volunteering to walk the dogs once a week, I help keep these dogs socialized, do a good deed to help abandoned animals, and get some exercise for myself. My daughter goes, too. I am Melissa. I was on Spark People for a while but stopped and gained a pretty considerable amount of weight. I think I just gave up for a while because it didn't seem that important.
