One of the things that has kept me back fro trying new recipes is the expense thay sometimes goes into buying ingredients.
I have had experiences in the past where I bought ingredients for a recipe, made the recipe, didn't like it so much and then ended up with extra ingredients that I never use in anything else.
What do you guys do in situations like that? (disclaimer: I'm not asking for advice...just trying to generate diacussion. :) ) Sat, 10 Jul 2010 14:11:17 EST Making substitutions How comfortable are you with making substitutions to any of Jaime's recipes? Sun, 16 May 2010 13:16:03 EST new Hi I am new! Sun, 16 May 2010 10:08:05 EST Tuesdays with Jamie: "Food Rev" Weekly Challenge! Hello Everyone! The story here is we're going to work our way through Jamie Oliver's newest book, "Jamie's Food Revolution" and each week make the same set of recipes from it. The idea here is to get us to maybe try something different, to adjust recipes to be healthier, learn and practice some easy cooking techniques, and get inspired cooking ideas from other Sparkers. Look at it as a virtual potluck where we all bring varying types of the same dish (think potato salad-- each one unique in i... Wed, 12 May 2010 10:04:27 EST Sharing Our Favorite JO recipes Would anyone be interested in sharing their favorite Jamie Oliver recipes? I've gotten a few on-line, and they are so good. Sun, 2 May 2010 12:13:17 EST Cooking with Jamie Challenge I propose a team challenge where we work our way through one of Jamie's cookbooks together, each week making the same recipe as each other and then blog about it. I think it would be a great way to pick-up some good cooking tricks, especially on adjusting recipes for diet and budget. It's also a great way to get to know each other! This is not a new idea; a huge community of food bloggers participate in a project called "Tuesdays with Dorie" where they are slowly and surely working through ... Wed, 28 Apr 2010 22:23:10 EST Chicken Nugget Demostration and My Kids DH and I had our 3 older kids (8,6,4) watch the chicken nugget demonstration from the show. Mega Chocolate Fudge Cake I made the Mega Chocolate Fudge Cake from the Revolution book for a friends birthday. It was easy to make and tasted wonderful. Of course the calories were high but for a special occasion I will make it again.

When I put it through the calorie calculator it ended up being 520 calories for 1/8 of the cake.

Next, I will pick some healthier to try. I am thinking about the cauliflower and cheese macaroni. I'd love to know what you've tried in the past and your opinion of it. I'll let you know a little later today what I plan on trying. In the past I made his sausage and onion gravy from the "Jamie at Home" book. I made it for my DH since he's a hunter and Jamie suggested venison sausage in the recipe. It was pretty good.
