SparkPeople SP Class of August 15-21, 2010 Team Messageboard This team is for all members who joined SP from August 15-21, 2010. Welcome! SparkPeople SP Class of August 15-21, 2010 Team Messageboard April Challenge I think it is time for this team to have a challenge. It is now spring, and the weather is getting gorgeous in most areas. This helps me a lot to be motivated to walk, because I would rather be outside walking than walking on a treadmill. Plus it is the time of the year that we start having to mow, push mow your yard it is a great workout, or working out in the garden. While you are sprucing up your yard you will also be doing something great for your own body.

So here is the c... Fri, 30 Mar 2012 11:54:59 EST Challenge Number 3 Jan 15-21 This week I would like to focus more on strength training. I know that I am comfortable with doing cardio workouts, but strength training sometimes gets forgotten, I know we are all at different levels, and maybe there are some exercises you can't do physically. But try to find some strength exercises to do this week.

Some examples:

Crunches
Push ups
Lunges
Squats
Or even weight training.

My goal for this week is to continue doing the cr... Sun, 15 Jan 2012 16:27:45 EST Challenge Number 2 - Jan 9-15, 2012 This month the challenges are going to be about getting back in to the groove of things and to make some lifestyle changes. Last week the goal was to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, and the fitness minutes logged last week are awesome. As a team we have logged over 1,000 fitness minutes a day..that is awesome. So keep on getting at least 30 minutes or more exercise each day, it will pay off in the end.

This week I want to challenge everyone to be sure to drink at leas... Mon, 9 Jan 2012 14:35:18 EST 1st Challenge of the New Year For the first challenge, I want to focus on us all getting more active. So the first challenge is going to be relatively simple. I want us to strive for 30 minutes of exercise each day, or 210 minutes for the week. You can break this down to doing 10 minutes of exercise 3 times a day as well. It should be simple to get 30 minutes a day, but I know we are all busy and struggle to get exercise time in. So we will have to challenge ourselves this week. Good luck! Mon, 2 Jan 2012 18:24:56 EST 2012 Resoultions Stop by and share what you are hoping to accomplish in 2012.

Maybe you want to cut something out of your diet, or maybe you want to add more exercise.

Maybe it has nothing to do with diet or exercise.

We can get to know our team members a little more and what is important to them. Our lives are not all wrapped up with watching what we eat or how much exercise we are getting, that is just a part of our life.

And remember when setting your resoluti... Tue, 27 Dec 2011 14:47:17 EST Weekly Challenge Dec 4-10 2011 Being that this is the season for giving, I was thinking it would be nice if we gave to each of the team members. This can be giving a Spark Goodie to another teammate, or leaving a word of encouragement on another teammates page. The goal is to let others on the team know that we are all here for them on this journey. If you would like to come back and post who you gave a goodie too, that is fine but not required. Sun, 4 Dec 2011 17:02:25 EST December 1st Weigh In Something else that I was thinking that might help our team, is instead of having a weekly weigh in we will weigh in on Dec 1 and then we aren't going to worry about what that scale says for a month. Instead of focusing on that number going down I would like us to focus on the other positives we are getting by boosting our fitness minutes for the month.

So try to stop by and weigh in on Dec 1, and then put that scale away until January 1, 2012. If you would still like to weigh an... Wed, 30 Nov 2011 22:51:47 EST December Challenge We are at the last month of 2011, so let's make it a great one. We have already had one big food holiday go by, but this month seems to be the month of extra goodies and for some more time at home.

Being that the group has not been very active in the past few months I am hoping to jump start this group again and get us moving. For the month of November the fitness minutes was 37,700 which means on average the group was doing 1,243.33 minutes a day. Now there are over 10,000 in... Wed, 30 Nov 2011 15:00:45 EST Weekly Challenge for October 3, 2011 I know this week's challenge is a little late, but I want to focus more on the mental side this week. We all have times of struggle, which brings frustration, and this effects our workouts and the weigh in for the week. So I thought this week we should all share our struggles and frustrations, so that maybe by getting them out there and venting about them we won't worry about them as much. And maybe even get some helpful hints from others. It is known that stress can effect your weight, ... Wed, 5 Oct 2011 14:48:30 EST Weekly Challenge for September 26, 2011 For this week we are going to have a diet, fitness, and mental health challenge. We need to focus on all three areas in order to achieve our goals, so why not have a challenge for each of them. And please remember modify them anyway you need to in order to get the best result for you. So here goes:

Diet:

Drink at least 8 cups of water a day...but strive for 10
Eat more fruits and veggies with your meals or snacks - try to have a serving with each meal

... Tue, 27 Sep 2011 14:52:40 EST Weekly Fitness Challenge for September 12, 2011 I am not sure where everyone is at in their fitness level so I am going to start the challenges fairly easy. If they aren't challenging enough for you then let me know and I will step them up. If possible add these to the exercise you are currently doing, just another way to change up the workout and give an extra push towards our goal.

For at least 3 days this week do the following exercises:

25 Jumping Jacks
25 Crunches
25 Fire Hydrants(on each side - so to... Mon, 12 Sep 2011 13:47:51 EST Please Share your thoughts This team hasn't been active in a while and I am hoping that we can change that. I am sure that we are all busy with our daily lives and it is not always easy to get on here and post to all the blogs. But I am hoping that we can get the team a little more active and supporting each other in our goals. I would like for you to share what you would like to see happen with this team. Share things such as what will help motivate you along the way, what will help to get the team more active, an... Sat, 3 Sep 2011 17:02:51 EST One year in, how's everyone doing? Interesting blog post I happened to stumble upon. In summary, it's about how saying "real women have curves" can be detrimental to those who are naturally thin and may not be as voluptuous as other curvier women.

I also found it interesting in the comments it is stated that we really should be bashing the unhealthy habits (not eating right, no exercising) instead of the "too-skinny" or "too-chubby" women. I think that's a great point.

Thoughts?
thedemoiselles... Thu, 26 Aug 2010 22:33:41 EST Day 3 check-in, and my fitness history of horror!!
Just checking in for day 3. Mon, 16 Aug 2010 09:26:39 EST Day #2 Okay...I am off to a good start. I kept within my calorie goal for yesterday, even though I was "forced" to have McDonald's for dinner last night. I had a hamburger, apple dippers and a diet coke. Not very healthy, but far better than what I might usually have had. A victory for me!

I also went to the movies, but brought with me a bottle of water and a bag of 94% FF microwave popcorn. I skipped the usual box of raisinettes!

Today started off with a 30 minute walk a... Mon, 16 Aug 2010 09:18:25 EST Hello all I just wanted to say hello to everyone on the board. I put the weight back on...and a few pounds more.

So...take two. Let's nail it this time around!

Mon, 16 Aug 2010 08:28:56 EST Hi New girl in town Hi im new to Sparkpage and i'm having trouble starting a sparkpage.I've set it up twice but it keeps telling me to start a new one every time I try to open it. Hi everyone!
I am a runner and in a long and boring battle with 15 pounds. The SAME 15 pounds. If I stop dieting or running for even a couple of weeks, I gain weight. I have been on every diet under the sun and don't lose weight unless I run AND eat 1200 calories a day. My thyroid is normal, although I'm going to check my BMR this week, because apparently the range of normal has changed. It's really discouraging to do everything right and not see results. Well back to school time so I am signing back up at the gym! Look forward to learning from you all! Sun, 15 Aug 2010 10:25:55 EST New to SparkPeople... Just joined this morning. I'm ready to learn the skills to live a healthier life, and looking forward to losing weight gained during the stress of divorce. A diagnosis of osteoarthritis has slowed down my activity level, but not my love for outdoor activities (mostly walking and cycling). My doctor worries about my cholesterol level, so the changes I learn here will hopefully help with that. Seems like enough of an intro for now. Sun, 15 Aug 2010 10:19:31 EST Sarah-Lily I go by Sarah. I joined in the first week of August but am just starting now. (Procrastination!) I'm 21 and I'm looking more to get healthy than I'm looking to lose weight. I'm a psychology student and life coach in training. Questions? ;) Sun, 15 Aug 2010 09:48:39 EST I am whaofat1 I'm 44 and have never been this weight. I know how I got here but am trying to figure out why. I find that motivating myself is harder now than ever before and as a personal chef, cooking food for others gives me more than an ample supply of tasting. I find myself trying to eat when I am bored and I am not even hungry. I put this weight on so fast that at first I did not pay attention. Now it seems harder to get it off.
