Tue, 2 Feb 2016 15:21:00 EST Team challenge: Prepare 2 meatless meals per week I could use some ideas here.

Here is one of my "go-to" recipes. Black bean quesadillas. My son loves them! Simply drain and rinse out a can of black beans and cook. While cooking, add some lemon juice and mash. You can use lemon pepper, but I am trying to cut down on my salt intake (sigh). Spread the black beans on a tortilla, top with cheese of your choice, top with another tortilla, and brown in a skillet until warm and "melty!" I usually need 2 cans of beans. You would be surpri... Mon, 27 Apr 2015 12:49:31 EST Getting back on track Good morning! I joined this team back in 2012, I think. I have been up and down. But, last year, I managed to get back into working out and healthy eating, which resulted in a 25 pound weight loss. In the last 6 months, I have gained 10 of it back. I know it's not a lot. And, I manage to be "holding." By that I mean, I am not gaining any MORE weight back. But, I am in a rut. I want to make healthier food all the time, as well as stay active. I"m looking forward to it! Mon, 27 Apr 2015 11:56:19 EST hi im new Hi
Im new here. I am looking for motivation. Seems I have lost alot of it. I appreciate any help/support I can get. Mon, 16 Jan 2012 11:28:12 EST What were your 2011 Accompli shments? Dear All,

2011 was good to me. This year I managed to lose an additional 24 ½ lbs. Walked one 5K race and ran another. My doctor took me off my cholesterol pills and I was able to lower my blood glucose numbers so I don’t have to take medication either. I did not reach my ultimate goal weight of 150, but will definitely loose those pesky 7lbs. in 2012.

How did 2011 treat you? Was it a good year? I have been on Sparkpeople a couple of times, and after a tough move and a tough winter I am reworking my goals and starting over again. I just bought a copy of The Spark and read several chapters this weekend on the road and back to Ohio to see family. It gave me a fresh perspecive on why I need to be here and what I need to do. I often get distracted by illness, family mayhem, the occasional power outage, etc, but I am trying to check in daily on SP no matter what as long as I can get acces... Tue, 14 Jun 2011 10:16:43 EST Oatmeal idea Im pretty psyched because Im developing a great oatmeal topping. Every week i fill a container with walnuts, sliced almonds, raw coconut, cinnamon, raisins, crasins, ground flax, and mix it all together. Then when i microwave my rolled oats, all i have to do is add 3 tbsp of my topping mix. So now im experimenting to add new flavors like maple extract or mini dark chocolate chips. When I get just the right mixture i think ill put it in mason jars and give it out as Christmas presents this yea... Tue, 14 Jun 2011 10:15:03 EST Grilled chicken - make ahead I grill up a bunch of chicken on Sunday for dinner, then use the cold chicken for the rest of the week for my lunches. Tue, 14 Jun 2011 09:50:49 EST Hi I'm G Jane Hi, I'm G Jane. I'm new to this team. I've been on SP for about 3 1/2 weeks now. I love food, but I try to make healthier decisions about what goes in my body these days. One of the best things about summer growing up was all the fresh veggies my mother grew in her garden. Processed foods could never taste that good. Tue, 14 Jun 2011 09:27:21 EST I'm New to This I am just getting started. I love to cook, and I hate diet food so I thought this might be a good compromise for me. I've always believed there has to be a way to lose weight without sacrificing taste. We'll see if I can figure this out and still lose weight! Tue, 14 Jun 2011 09:15:20 EST Hi, I'm Gerri I reached goal weight last spring & am just working on maintaining right now. I LOVE good food! I'm trying to make smart choices & watch my portion size. SparkPeople is really helpful. I tend to have problems when I stop tracking, which has happened lately, so I'm trying to get back on board with keeping track. Look forward to being on a board with good & healthy food ideas. Tue, 14 Jun 2011 09:11:09 EST Getting Back on track I joined Spark and Curves a few months ago and was doing really well. Then I slacked off for a week or soo, and am having a hard time getting back in the groove. If anyone has some good tips for me to get motivated and back on track please let me know. Tue, 14 Jun 2011 08:29:50 EST Hi I'm Erik I've got another 53 pounds to lose and keep off. I love food, and want to make some dietary changes for the healthier, without taking the joy out of food. Tue, 14 Jun 2011 08:19:46 EST Eating High Fibre foods helped me lose 140 pounds! Over 3 years ago, I decided it was time to get my weight situation under control after losing my mother and brother 11 months apart to Heart Disease. I began by filling up on high fibre foods such as Fibre 1 bars, broccolli, caulifower, beans, salads, strawberry mini-wheats etc. I found that by eating high fibre foods, I filled up most quicker and didn't overeat. I made vegetables my side dish instead of eating french fries or pasta which also filled me up more quickly.

I snack ... Tue, 14 Jun 2011 07:56:09 EST Hello I'm liz Hello I've been on spark people for a month now and this is my first team. I love to cook and discover new way of eating. The more time I spend following my spark diet the less I love eating heavy and fat meals that's why I need to find new way to cook and eat. 4 Tue, 14 Jun 2011 07:16:27 EST Hello, I'm Gina Hi all. New to the team but not new to Sparking. I've been working hard on eating better and exercising since last August, and if there's anything I've learned it's that I LOVE food! But I've also learned that fresh ingredients and good recipes taste much better than cheap fillers and sugary or fried foods, and that they make my body run better too. So I'm glad to have found this team and I look forward to sharing ideas and seeing what new ideas all of you have to share, too. Thanks for havin... Tue, 14 Jun 2011 07:02:06 EST Hi I am Linda I have been around for awhile but I just started to take advantage of the program. I am trying to make a lifestyle change, so I refuse to sacrifice taste and eat things that I don't like to lose weight. I am learning to use less to cut down on my fat intake. I have added eggs, cheese, and tuna to my meals to get the protein that I need. I thought about purchasing whey protein but I am very skeptical. We have been working really hard at home to use all of our food - and specifically not let veggies and fruits go to waste. Soup was a perfect solution to have a healthy filling meal and use the remaining veggies. It is actually very quick and easy too.

Simply boil chicken or veggie broth and toss in whatever veggies you can find (carrots, celery, onion, broccoli, cabbage, etc.). We almost always have fresh herbs layin... Mon, 25 Apr 2011 12:03:13 EST Just joined today! Hi all, Joanne here
Seemed like the perfect fresh start to today since I have kind of let my good eating habits go out the window over the holiday weekend! But no beating myself up. Focused on the present and happy to be back in my usual mindset. Really looking forward to being a part of this team! 252 Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:18:15 EST Antoher new member Hi all--
I'm happy to be joining this group. I love to cook, and I refuse to use "plastic" foods--things that have been modified to drop calories and fat. I love fresh, local ingredients; elegant restaurants; and meals shared with friends.
I realize that my biggest issue is portion control--learning to stop when I have eaten what my body needs instead of what my taste buds want. But, in the the 3.5 months I've been with Spark People, I also realize that I really prefer not feel... Mon, 25 Apr 2011 11:07:09 EST Think before you eat I think about why I want something, check out calories, fat, sugar content of the food I want. If it isn't healthy, I ask myself: "Why do I want to sabotage myself?" More often than not, this gives me enough time to get past a craving I may have and make a better choice like eating some fruit or nothing at all because I'm really not hungry - just bored... Mon, 25 Apr 2011 10:57:11 EST Yummy veggies I use carrots and cauliflower, but you could throw in brussel sprouts or zucchini too.

I just cut up my veggies, toss them in some olive oil and put them on a lightly sprayed pan, sprinkle them with sea salt and pepper and put them in the oven on 350 until desired doneness. The roasting gives them a sweet flavor - even my daughter who doesn't like cauliflower eats it when I serve it this way. It's tasty. Mon, 25 Apr 2011 08:29:24 EST Hi all Just joined this team. Ready to learn some new recipes and share some too. Mon, 25 Apr 2011 08:25:01 EST What do you do to get back on track? I have been doing well with eating less and exercising, however easter dinner was too delicious to resist. I don't regret the extras, (Yum! )but I was wondering what tricks, recipes or ideas anyone has to equal out the extra calories this week.
I plan to add an extra 10 minutes to each of my workouts this week.
I have been doing well and don't want to get too far off track. thanks for any ideas Sun, 24 Apr 2011 23:10:29 EST Delicious Tomato Chicken 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts seasoned and browned in a little olive oil
Cover with one can Garlic Stewed or Chopped Tomatoes
Sprinkle with 2T Lowfat Shredded Mozzarella

Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes. A recipe I like is Kale chips, really helps when you crave chips or junk. Take a bunch of kale, wash it, towel dry then break it up into chunks off the stem then put it in a bowl. Put either 1 tablespoon of olive oil or sesame oil and mix up until kale is lightly coated. Put in either celtic salt just a pinch or other herbs, you can mix and match with kale and it still tastes great. Put on baking sheet, s... Sun, 24 Apr 2011 11:36:21 EST Hi there - new to this team Hello, all - I just joined this team after seeing it in my Best of SparkPeople email, but I've been with Spark since the middle of November. I've lost about 30 pounds so far and have really enjoyed the resources here. I am 43 years old and live in San Jose, California. I work in a high-tech job at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale. Looking forward to getting to know you all! Sun, 24 Apr 2011 02:25:11 EST Favorite low-cal veggie recipes. More suggestions? I've found that I tend to eat more vegetables, less unhealthy food, and fewer calories if I munch on vegetables before eating the main part of dinner/lunch. My favorite easy vegetable recipes are:
-Roasting broccoli with red pepper strips and garlic (sprayed with olive oil Pam) at 400 for 30 minutes
-Roasting peeled turnips for 30 minutes, until browned (stirring from time to time)
-Tomatoes, raw, with balsamic vinegar
-Mashed cauliflower
-Any greens (kale, collard ... Sat, 23 Apr 2011 22:07:22 EST low calorie coffees I used to drink cappuccinos until I found out how many calories and how much sugar they have. Now I buy flavored coffee beans and I use sweetener and powdered creamers. I still get the taste I want without the calories and sugar. Sat, 23 Apr 2011 21:16:18 EST ALMOST PUMPKIN PIE minus the guilt !!! I found a good way to have almost the taste of my favorite pumpkin pie without the sugar and calories. Take a sweet potato and cut it into coin shapes making sure not to be thicker than 1/2 inch, spray both sides with pam then sprinkle pumpkin pie spice and splenda. Then grill until soft. It is tasty !!! Sat, 23 Apr 2011 18:41:29 EST Salt replacement I've been able to do without salt, either partially or completely, in a lot of meat and vegetable recipes by using ground cumin instead. It tastes different than salt, but adds a delicious taste to meals. I buy the whole cumin seeds and grind a bit in my (clean) coffee grinder, and store it in a small container for use. That way it is never sitting there for months - I just grind what I need for a few weeks - and adds a punch of flavour. Sat, 23 Apr 2011 15:54:46 EST ready to eat ............. A friend of mine who has kids always cuts up fruit like oranges and keeps them in a bowl in the fridge and he says everytime the kids open the fridge to get something to eat they see the fruit already cut up and grab that to eat since they don't have to worry with peeling it or cutting it themselves. Works with all sorts of fruits and veggies too. Sat, 23 Apr 2011 15:43:59 EST for my drive home from work I bring an orange cut up in a zip lock baggie with my packed lunch so I can eat it on the way home from work so I am not starving before dinner time. Sat, 23 Apr 2011 15:34:22 EST Boring is good too So, trying new things is good, but, sometimes, eating the same foods again and again can make it easier to avoid pitfalls and traps. There is no guessing about portion size, calories, or what to eat today. Once you get used to something, you may find that it becomes a new, healthy, comfort food. Sat, 23 Apr 2011 14:58:04 EST quick switches *I never really liked oatmeal but i now add frozen berries to sweeten and flavor. I also add a tablespoon peach preserves and diced dried apricots sometimes. I also found reqular oatmeal (not instant packets) taste heartier and not like mush.
*Keeping washed and cut veggies in a bag is easy to grab wheni come home starved.
*I keep a bag of the dove dark chocolate promises so i can have something small when i want a treat.

Sat, 23 Apr 2011 14:50:40 EST One step at a time I was never a vegetable eater, so I have slowly started adding vegetables to my meals. I started out by eating peppers every day at lunch, eventually I added other veggies, one at a time until now I eat a wide variety, and my diet is much, much healthier. Sat, 23 Apr 2011 14:42:00 EST Healthy Snack I'm always looking for a healthy way to snack , something I can grab quick, I tried this out the other day to curb a crunchy craving.

Oven Roasted Chickpeas

One can chickpeas(drained, rinsed, patted dry)
1tsp garlic powder
1 tsp italian seasoning
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp flour
salt and pepper to taste

Mix all together in a bowl, spread on a cookie sheet, bake at 425 degrees, for about 25 min.
Stirring once about half way through. ... These low salt, low fat, low calorie nutrients are far more likely to be eaten when they are right there in front of you.

Carrot disks, celery sticks, cucumber slices, diakon, jicama, and radishes are easy to prepare, they last throughout the day, they are tasty, colorful, and you simply cannot eat too many of them. They make g... Sat, 23 Apr 2011 12:15:17 EST Good Morning, Happy Easter! Just joined this team and all four goals! That may be aggessive, but I am recovering from major surgery and not cleared to exercise much more than a 20 min. walk a day and no lifting, so I think these goals are attainable and I'm itching to do SOMETHING that'll not ADD pounds while I recover! Looking forward to hearing about all of your successes! Sat, 23 Apr 2011 11:04:03 EST ready.... Hello, I am ready for the challenge! Good luck everyone.
