SparkPeople Lung Cancer, Blessing or Curse Team Messageboard For people with or effected by lung cancer who are still not only fighting, but wanting to get healthy in the process. SparkPeople Lung Cancer, Blessing or Curse Team Messageboard Just Diagnosed I was in the emergency room about 2 weeks ago and was admitted to the hospital after they found fluid and a mass on my lung. Turns out the fluid was pneumonia but they also found that I have lung cancer. I am waiting to get in for a PET Scan to see how far it has spread I smoked for over 23 years and quit about 4 years ago. I am not sure how to handle any of this and to be totally honest I am scared to death. I have my husband to talk to but he can not understand what I am going through or ho... Tue, 24 Jan 2017 17:04:36 EST Hi, I'm new! but I don't have lung cancer but I know someone who does. She is depressed and also on dialysis. I'm on dialysis too, but for different reasons.

She actually wanted to insert a fistula in her arm to facilitate dialysis but was told that it was pointless because she only had a few months to live. She's been in the same treatment center for a few months now. She has a catheter in her chest. 50% of her lungs have been removed because of the cancer.

She has nausea and can't ... Fri, 10 Apr 2015 08:29:17 EST Trouble Breathing I had my lobetomy in July. I am still having problems with a nasty cough and shortness of breath that my pulmonologist is concerned about. I cough so hard sometimes that I hurt my ribs. And I can get out of breath walking 15 feet from my bed to the bathroom in the morning.

The doctor prescribed a Symbicort inhaler (160/4.5) for me to use twice a day and an albuterol rescue inhaler. I have a follow-up with him in mid November and he wants me to have another breathing function te... Sun, 28 Sep 2014 14:26:04 EST Hello from Western Washington Hello. I just joined the team.

I was discharged from the hospital yesterday after a lobectomy (upper right lung). The cancer was contained to one spot but it had almost eaten through the wall of the lung. The oncologist will tell me if radiation or chemo is still needed. I am just thankful that it was found and removed before it spread to other organs.

I have a great support system here at home through family, friends and church. The discovery of my cancer is being ... Fri, 1 Aug 2014 14:47:15 EST Winning Attitude I attended Weight Watchers several years ago. I remember one of our coaches drilling into us the idea that we were no longer wimps, giving in to our eating habits, but that we could soar like eagles if we adopted a winning attitude.
Today I feel like a winner. I am on track to achieve my goal by July and I give thanks to you all and our SP teams. Thank God I am loosing weight that I put on after chemo. Sun, 26 Jan 2014 09:39:55 EST Healthy Snacking Watching NFL playoffs and snacking less than usual and healthier. Hope I come out of this season with my goals intact.
Cheers to all! I wanted to go hiking, and found out that it is very difficult for me to climb steep hills and was quickly out of breath. I have since found that I have to adjust my exercise vision to reality. I found swimming to be my best fit for exercise and am now swimming every day. I have adjusted my focus to reality.
God Bless and have... My surgeon just told me I have a spot on the upper and lower right lobes and he has me scheduled for surgery the 23 of Jan.. He said he is being conservative this time and will go into each lobe and remove them using robotic surgery. ( He calls it playing "Whack-a-Mole) The proble... Tue, 25 Dec 2012 17:15:08 EST A new start Where and when do you begin? Sun, 18 Nov 2012 09:02:29 EST Post chemo issues Does anyone in the team who has had chemo suffer from stomach issues such as cramping, bloating? What helps your diet? Sun, 4 Nov 2012 07:13:20 EST Gratitude? I believe in staying centered and having the right attitude, and gratitude really brightens my disposition. I have trouble in staying the course and must talk it over with someone or meditate so I can correct. Prayer also helps.
Sun, 28 Oct 2012 09:26:56 EST We need a team leader Anyone want to step up for this? Sun, 21 Oct 2012 08:03:48 EST Post surgery emphysema I have developed emphysema after lung cancer surgery and chemo. I wanted to know if anyone out there has had the same issue. Not a smoker for over 33 years and no previous diagnosis of this disease. I do suffer from bronchitis and asthma. Sun, 23 Sep 2012 10:08:48 EST SP and me When I first got here, I was 13 months out of Surgery for a lobectomy and a mess. Surgery went OK but I wound up with Pleural Effusion Christmas Eve 2008. The EMT'swere not happy dealing with me as they thought at the time that I was having a panic attack. the ER doctor went in and relieved the fluid pressure so I could breath.
That was then. When I first got here, I figured I had nothing to lose so I'd give SP a whirl.
The more I read the more I decided that maybe Sp had somethi... Sat, 28 Jul 2012 19:37:41 EST Hi All I'm Bob from Cape Cod. I am a lung cancer survivor and have been Cancer free since 2008. I have reached my weight goal and am exercising at the community gym here.
My yearly checkup has been changed to six months as my surgeon found a few more suspicious nodes in my left lung. Nothing to worry about yet but he is keeping a close eye on them to make sure. If I have to go back in the hospital again, I was told that the surgeon is using robotic surgery now so no more slice and dice..LOL... I hope that it is OK that I joined the group. My daughter has just got the results. Let me back track for a moment and give some history.

Monday, June 13, 2011
I have a very strange/estranged relationship with my oldest daughter who is 34 years old. I can't explain the details of the history (it would take too long) but lets just say that we have limited contact. Her choice. But we see the grandchildren and have great contact with them. I lost like 10 lbs in 2 weeks which is awesome!! What do I do? Do I continue and drop even more weight? NO!! I screw up for 4 weeks and don't drop a flipping thing! I know that if I could stick to a diet I wouldn't need a diet, but come on! Why is it so hard? Why do I feel this need to screw up? UGH!!

Well, back on track today. I did my 1/2 mile this morning and even though I forgot to bring my water I will just dri... Mon, 20 Jun 2011 09:37:04 EST Whats Up? Thu, 28 Oct 2010 13:04:12 EST I got some motivation My son is getting married next July. I am so happy as I just love my daughter-in-law to be. Anyway, his dad and I divorced before he was 2. He at first didn't want his dad there, but as changed his mind because he doesn't want to strain his relationship with his grandfather. So it looks like my x will be there and he is bringing my x best friend (yeah, that is why she is my x best friend). Anyway (again) she used to brag about how good she looked in her bikini, well I was a photo of her ... Thu, 16 Sep 2010 20:43:58 EST Still plugging along Still plugging along here. I kind of took a month off. Was a little depressed and I allowed it to last longer then it needed to. But as of yesterday, I am back on track. Ok, maybe not 100% with my eating, but I did do an hour on the treadmill. It was a slow walk but I did over a mile and a half. Ok, it was 1.6miles at 1.6 mph. But I got off my lazy butt and got moving!! I really need to build up my lung function because next year I want to try my hand at archery hunting a pronghorn. ... Fri, 10 Sep 2010 16:03:21 EST NSV I am sure that you have heard the phrase "Non Scale Victory", well I am stealing it and changing it to "Non Scan Victory". These are the little thing that we took for granted before we had lung cancer and now after fighting for our lives, let start celebrating those little victories.

Fri, 27 Aug 2010 16:05:20 EST OM FREAKING G!! I have no idea what the heck is wrong with me!! I am to the point of ALMOST freaking out because I am worrying about my scans (really x-rays) that I am having NEXT MONTH!! I have never had scan-zity (sp) and I don’t know why I am having a problem now. Also, I have been getting dizzy and having headaches this past week or so, pretty sure it is because in my old age I have developed allergies and am just not used to it. But of course what is the first thing I think of, Yep-Brain Tumor!! Th... Thu, 26 Aug 2010 13:21:54 EST Let's kick it into gear!! Ok, summer is almost over and I hope with it goes this heat wave! This heat is kicking my butt. The humidity has made it a real bear (not the real "b" word I wanted to use) to breath. I was going great until last week and I just quit. I had so crap going on that just took my focus off of what my health goals were and I seemed to be getter worse and worse everyday. I have not really gone overboard, but I don't think chocolate ice cream should have been on the menu. So here we go again. ... Sat, 14 Aug 2010 18:48:35 EST Breathing Exercises I am so thankful that I haven't had to deal with lung cancer myself, but I have had to watch and support a great friend who went through it!

I'm just curious what breathing exercises anyone who has had lung cancer have been told to do? Do they help? Any tips or tricks? I have some general breathing exercises, but I don't know how well they apply to someone who may have had part of a lung removed! Sat, 15 May 2010 16:09:25 EST Getting off my butt I am sitting here at work with not much to do (meaning my boss is out of the office so I can screw off) and decided that since I still don't have a computer at home (I am going to kick my husbands butt soon) I would get on here. I have not logged anything, I have not blogged or tracked or nothing and I feel guilty. I am only hurting myself and I know that. I want to stay healthy and the only way to do that is to take better care of myself and drop the 50 flipping pounds I put on during che... Wed, 12 May 2010 16:33:16 EST Spring is on it's Way!!! Had a CT guided needle biopsy done April 3 and was told it was Non Small Cell Lung cancer 3A on April 6. Had my Upper Left Lobe removed April 29 and did the chemo and radiation (kicked my butt) and last scan done Dec 14, 2009 showed NED!!! I am trying... Fri, 8 Jan 2010 23:18:45 EST
